"Gangs of Manhattan Vol. 1: Deadly Game" was the first episode of an audio escape series by Audio Escape. Currently there are 3 episodes in total. The company had just translated the game to English and we're excited to beta test it.

As corruption took over the entire city, we were the only cops left with some dignity. The Mafia was led by Tony Vercatto and he had just announced his candidacy for the mayor. He was planning to celebrate with an illegal poker game at his warehouse. This would be our last chance to capture him and keep our city safe.

It was quite enjoyable to listen to some background music from the game (felt like we were in a casino) in the waiting room of Zoom. Our game master made an intro about the story and we started the game. The format of the game was given in drawings. Once you solved an area, you'll then be able to "unlock" another. The scenery was described to us by the game master and then we were able to began our "search". There weren't many actual puzzles in the game. It was mostly what you would do in these scenarios with the tools you currently have. We did enjoy thinking outside the box as that's usually what audio escape rooms pushes you towards. Since there were no boundaries on what could be done in an audio escape room, we were able to ask the game master to do anything we liked. It would've been a better experience if the game master's "comebacks" were not as rigid. It felt like she was just reading the script but if it wasn't on there then there was a silence pause. In the end we were able to complete our mission for this episode in 45 minutes. There was a nice cliffhanger at the end of the episode that made us wonder what's going to happen in "Gangs of Manhattan - Vol. 2: The Golden Dragon"?

(If you do decide to try this game, please remember to let them know that you heard it from"ESCAPETHEROOMers"!)

Disclosure: We thank Audio Escape for comping our tickets for this game. Although a complimentary experience was generously provided, it does not impact our opinion on the review whatsoever.
