The Sherlock Holmes Experience was an interactive theater event at our local Fringe festival. Arriving at 221B Baker Street we were greeted by none other than Sherlock Holmes himself, telling us he needed our help with this case. Giving us a clipboard with information on where we were to head and what our objectives were, we headed around the Fringe to find the posters with clues on them.
This was a casual game that we could enjoy at our own pace as we explored the different areas of the Fringe area. As we found each poster, we needed to ensure we took good notes on what was on them to be able to solve the objectives. Once complete, we headed back to the designated location, where if we felt confident about our solutions, we would be able to go inside 221B Baker Street and compare our findings to the solutions on the wall. We also get a rating us on whether we solved the objectives or not, we got “partial” marks if we knew how to solve certain steps of the puzzles.

We found some creative puzzles as the story unfolded. There were more of them than we expected as we moved from place to place. Once we visited all the spots, we needed to make sure to took good notes to put everything together in the end. If we needed help, we could ask Sherlock for hints, and he would steer us in the right direction.

This was a fun casual activity to do with the kids. They enjoyed running around and searching for the clues and piecing them together. We were told afterwards this was inspired by a true story. The posters were well designed and hid some sneaky puzzles. We played with 4 people but more could play and if you ask for more sheets so everyone could have their own, that would be no problem. Overall, this was a fantastic activity to spend some family time and unravel a mystery together.
