Wayout Oy created more than just an online game. S4MPO was more like a cinematic movie. It reminded us a lot about the movie "Mad Max: Fury Road". The world was pretty much a wasteland. It was destroyed by natural disasters and wars. A cruel privileged party called Ylinen ruled The North with a powerful operating system called S4MPO. We (Takojat) had joined forces with the resistance (Väki) and our mission today was to help them take down S4MPO. This was how our adventure began...

S4MP0 could be played alone or with friends. We played on one device but you could easily play together over Zoom or on a big TV with a shared screen with a large group of people. Audio definitely added immersion to this game so make sure you have good headphones or speakers. It'll also help with the clarity when it comes to the audio puzzle. Although we didn't use Google much, the game does allow you to search for information that you are not familiar with. We do foresee novice puzzlers not be familiar to some of the ciphers in the game.

As we entered our code to start the game, the world disappeared around us. We were drawn into the virtual world right away. From sleuthing our way through the guards to successfully infiltrating into S4MPO's control center, all the actions made us feel like James Bond. The entire game's conversation elements were mostly through a computer response portal. The puzzles were mainly on separate links that we had to open up. Aino and Agent Seppä were part of the crew that was helping us with the take down. Adding in characters in the game made us feel closer to the actual situations. We enjoyed the little video break every time we solved a puzzle. It served as a story teller and informant for our next mission. The puzzles were not too difficult but we enjoyed the variations and loved seeing the familiar ciphers we normally would encounter in other games.

The selling point for us with this game that differed from other digital games was the way they were able to use the beautiful illustration videos to tell a story. It was quite emotional to watch from beginning to end given the situation we are in right now. If we don't protect the world we love, one day it could become this wasteland. Will we lose our freedom and subdue to a higher power or will we have the will to fight back? It was quite symbolic to the Coronavirus fight we are currently in. With the industry struggling to survive this pandemic, we were privileged to experience some of these talented puzzle/game creations so definitely support them by trying out this game! S4MPO part 1: Uprising definitely left a very intriguing cliffhanger at the end. We can't wait to see how they will develop this story in Part 2!

(If you do decide to try this game, please remember to let them know that you heard it from"ESCAPETHEROOMers"!)
