Excitingly enough, they are re-opening back to the public and making sure that everything is working properly! Rumor has it, that there's been some technological malfunctions so you and your team of entertainment experts have been recruited double-check everything. Will you be able to sign off on the official launch of this nostalgic park? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE This is a really unique concept for an escape room as we've seen carnivals but not an entire build out of a theme park. If you know a little about the history of the original "Rocky Point Amusement Pack", you might see a lot of Easter Eggs in this room that really resembled the historical site. All the props were built in-house with a lot of details in the wood work, which actually worked really well with bring this retired park back to life. You'll feel like you're actually in a physical amusement park with arcade games, rides, sound effects, and of course lots of puzzles! There was a lot of creativity used in making them all very different, yet fun. Everyone on our team got to work separately and all together at some point during the game. There was a lot of creative ways of utilizing the space in this game and each "section" of the room felt very different than the previous. There was a really cool way of delivering messages in this game and it felt very personalized. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One of the props was quite difficult to see under the special instructions given. Perhaps the coloring needs to be enhanced. We actually finished with only a few seconds left on the clock, which felt great in terms of that last minute adrenaline rush. However, the actual ending felt like it needed a bigger finish. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? RI Riddle Room is always creating fun and interactive escape rooms with unique storylines. If you go to their other location, you'll feel that the themes are more towards mystery solving and this location is more about fun and action. The rooms here are newer as well and you can see that they've been definitely stepping up their game throughout the years. "Rocky Point Park" is a great game for families and larger group as there's a lot to do. If you've played a bunch of escape rooms, you'll still be able to complete it with 2-3 people. Just don't be fooled by how easy it is to get through the first area, there's a looooong way to go! Use your time wisely or else you might never find out the secret behind this iconic park! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Free parking lot right in front of entrance. Lobby area with seating available. - BaZaDa Games - "Locke's Portal"
LOCATION: Coventry, Rhode Island, USA Photo above is property of BaZaDa Games Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Locke's Portal 📅 DATE PLAYED: July 9, 2022 🎬 GENRE: Sci-Fi, Mystery 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 5 ppl): 6/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-8 ppl (Recommend 3-5PPL) 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: $29/PP ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY About a 100 years ago, William Locke mysteriously disappeared. His family never bothered to investigate because they didn't approve of his fascination with transcendental practices. Therefore... they disowned him! In present time, Derek Locke (a descendant of William Locke), has discovered that his great, great grandfather might have been on the verge of a breakthrough that could possibly affect all of mankind! You and your team have been hired by Derek to search William's cabin deep in the mountains to see what we can find. Could his disappearance have something to do with all of this? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The set design was pretty impressive being that it's all built in-house. The cabin had a porch, fire place, and lots of hidden elements. It was nice to be able to feel nature without actually being outside. As stated in the previous point, we were surprised by some of the hiding spots that was built into the cabin. It made the experience feel genuine whenever we discovered where something was. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The intro video felt a bit long and could be shortened. Perhaps having the GM play as the character prior to the game would make the story more clear for the players. The nature sounds was a great addition to the room when we started the game but there was no ambient sounds or sound effects inside the cabin. Adding in a bit more of a mysterious type of sound could enhance the experience and make it more immersive. Some of the puzzle designs and tools used felt repetitive and some clues were confusing in terms of what player's should be looking for (please keep in mind that this is BaZaDa Games' first escape room and we were their 2nd group of players to take on "Locke's Portal". We provided them with some feedback which they were clearly receptive to so they could've implemented those changes after playing the game on July 9, 2022). The hint system could be delivered in a more immersive way. It would be best if the player didn't have to physically travel every time to the designated location to receive it as this is a spacious room and it becomes quite cumbersome to have to bounce back and forth. The ending needed more of a climactic finale. We actually didn't know we finished the game and had to seek confirmation. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? BaZaDa Games is Rhode Island's newest escape room company located in Coventry inside of a strip mall. They are a family-owned company and started off their business with making tabletop games. We can definitely see the love that they had put into this first room as everything was done internally. There's a good amount of puzzles and gadgets that we've seen in this room that brought back memories of when we first started playing escape rooms. Beginners will have a fun time discovering the simpler puzzles like finding items or counting. We can't wait to see what they will bring to the table for their next two games as this is the first of a trilogy to come! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Free parking lot right in front Lobby area with seating and games available for purchase Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers *** We regret to inform this game is no longer available for booking but check out other games on their website*** (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) - The Escape Game DC (formerly Escape Room Live) - "A Pirate's Adventure"
LOCATION: Washington, DC, USA Photo above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: A Pirate's Adventure 📅 DATE PLAYED: July 6, 2019 🎬 GENRE: Pirate, Adventure 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 8/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: Up to 8 PPL 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 45 Mins 💰 PRICE: $28.00/ pp ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Public 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: No Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Escape Room Live is our first ever Washington DC location escape room that we are visiting. They also have another branch in Alexandria, Virginia. Since it was early Saturday morning, it was quite easy to find parking on the street (although you still have to pay the meter). On weekdays, it may be a bit more difficult as they are on a very busy street. You can read more about parking in Georgetown HERE. The décor of the lobby is top notch. You can easily have a fun party here with the fully operational bar and tons of space to mingle. All of their escape rooms are located in the basement level so when the time comes, your game master will escort you downstairs for your debriefing. As we descended down the stairs into their escape room hallway, it was really amazing to see how large the space was and how they were able to freely utilize it and divide it anyway they wanted (I felt like I was a kid again and visiting Disney World)! For more information on the rooms, check out their 3D tour HERE. We are excited to be the FIRST ONES to review their newest room “A Pirate's Curse”. As we sailed away on this forever cursed ship, we must find the lost gold of the Aztec Sun God to free ourselves. The game master was dressed as a ship crew member and started his role play as he debriefed us on the game rules. We were then led to what looked like a cabin inside the ship and the timer started right away. We really felt the immersive set design with this pirate-themed room (we’ve played many at this point) and with the visuals of the outside sea and the music, it definitely kept us engaged! The puzzles felt linear as we were pretty much working on them together throughout. The props used for the puzzles correlated with the theme very well! As we moved forward, we did feel that one of the puzzles was going to be challenging for me due to the height (5-feet), but good thing Agent #1 was there for the rescue. There was also a final puzzle in there that was quite difficult to understand, and the clues that were provided were also not as clear. It would be great if they can either figure out a way to clear up the hint system or make the puzzle less confusing to complete. We did hear from the game master say that there were a few other test groups that experienced similar scenarios and was a bit frustrated at the end. We had plenty of time with just the two of us when we got to the last room. However, it was on that last puzzle that we pretty much used all that’s left and was unable to escape. It is not necessarily a difficult puzzle, but we just think that the clues needed to be clearer. Other than that, this room was amazing and definitely worth trying out. Currently, Escape Room Live in DC offers three other rooms: “Curse of the Mummy”, “Titanic” and “The Cabin”. We had the privilege to peek at all of them and included a quick tour in our video. They all looked really immersive and the quality of the finishes are "theme park" level. We can’t wait to go back and give their other rooms a try to redeem our defeat! Arrrrrgh! * Check out our YouTube video above for a sneak peek of the location, interview with the owner, the room and more! - REMOTE: The Escape Game (Nashville) - "Truth Seekers Remote Adventure"
Videos/ Photos provided by The Escape Game Company: The Escape Game Game: Truth Seekers Remote Adventure Country: USA 🇺🇸 Language: English Type of Game: Remote Escape Room 🗣 Genre: Sci-Fi Date Played: 10/22/2020 Difficulty (based on 7 players): 3/10 Size of Team: Up to 8 players (You'll could be paired with strangers) Time: 45 Minutes Price: Free (October 23rd through November 18th) In celebration of the "Truth Seeker" show that will be premiering on October 30th on Amazon Prime Video, The Escape Game created this 45 minute remote escape game that you can play from the comfort of your homes for free (for a limited time). We are big fans of Simon Pegg and a series with a paranormal story line was just icing on the cake. We were excited to be invited to attend the VIP preview event for press only. As we've done many games by "The Escape Game" (both at their physical location and remotely), we are very familiar with the format of their game design and operations. This one was no different than the others. We were given an intro video by Elton and Gus informing us that we must help them to restore 6G signal at a museum in Meymouth and recover the artifact (Praecepta Mortuorum book) that's causing the disruption. A separate inventory portal was given to us to be used alongside the Zoom video feed. Our game host Kyle was in charge of keeping the inventory portal in order for us. Any item that needed a closer look was put into the inventory and anything we've used already or was no longer needed were removed immediately. There was also a game guide that acted as our agent in the field. We are able to inform him/her on what was needed to be examined, opened, closed, etc...You can even hear some of the characters from the series talking to you throughout the game! After successfully gaining access to Dr. Peter Toynbee’s office, we were given a 360 view of the room. This 360 view was also able to be accessed in the inventory system. This allowed players to be able to search and solve different puzzles at the same time. The puzzles were not too difficult and we had a nice flow throughout the game. Our team proudly finished in 26 minutes and 23 seconds. Normally we like to keep remote play to 4 people as it could get confusing with people talking over one another but since this is a free event, The Escape Game is allowing booking for up to 8 people per game. In this case, it might help to designate a team leader to shoutout the codes. If anyone has played "The Heist" remotely before at The Escape Game, you might be at a slight advantage with solving puzzles in this game. The set design and puzzles were redesigned with different props to fit the story line but you'll definitely recognize the secret doors and areas that would have unlocked in "The Heist" game. Regardless you should still take advantage of another well orchestrated adventure by The Escape Game, especially when its FREE! Since we haven't watch the series yet, we're unsure of the Easter Eggs that were put into the game but I'm sure we'll be on the lookout when we watch the show on Oct 30th! *** We regret to inform this game is no longer available for booking but check out other games on their website*** (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) - REMOTE: The Escape Game (Nashville) - "The Heist"
Videos/Photos provided by The Escape Game Company: The Escape Game Game: The Heist Country: USA 🇺🇸 Language: English Type of Game: Remote Escape Room 🗣 Genre: Heist Date Played: 5/29/2020 Difficulty (based on 4 players): 7/10 Size of Team: 3-7 Players Time: 60 Minutes Price: $25 (+ tax) per person We have always been a fan of escape rooms at The Escape Game. Their physical locations always felt professional yet welcoming. This was our first remote escape room experience with them and we attempted "The Heist". Our mission was to break into Vincent Hahn's office and retrieve a stolen painting. After a nice intro video, we were given detailed instructions on how to use the inventory list. It was a clean interface and pretty easy to use. There were times when we felt a delay in items being transferred in and out of the list but according to the game master it was because we were solving the puzzles too quickly. Because of that, I'm going to let the "lag" issue slide. Our one suggestion would be to expand the inventory list longer so items can appear on one page instead of us having to click the left and right to search for the items. This was one of their older rooms but we were surprised at how well it was maintained. We always loved the "secrets" The Escape Game usually provide during their game designs and this room was no exception. Even though the room doesn't feel as large in terms of sq. ft., they fully utilized the space to make us feel like we were going through different scenes. Other than this experience, they also have "Gold Rush" which won our Bullseye Award in 2019 and their newest room "Ruins: Forbidden Treasure" which we are very tempted to try! - REMOTE: The Escape Game (Nashville) - "Ruins: Forbidden Treasure"
Videos/Photos provided by The Escape Game Company: The Escape Game Game: Ruins: Forbidden Treasure Country: USA 🇺🇸 Language: English Type of Game: Remote Escape Room 🗣 Genre: Adventure Date Played: 6/8/2020 Difficulty (based on 2 players): 7/10 Size of Team: 3-7 Players Time: 60 Minutes Price: $25 (+ tax) per person Video above is property of The Escape Game We've been contemplating if we should play this game in person or remotely. We kept hearing amazing things about it from our friends and in the end, we couldn't resist the temptation. The Escape Game had always been one of our favorite escape companies. Their Gold Rush won our "Bullseye Award" last year. From customer service to set design to puzzle creativity, The Escape Game had always made the experience felt seamless. The "Ruins: Forbidden Treasure" was no exception. We were enjoying our tour with the captain of Skyward Tours when his plane suddenly malfunctioned. When we woke up, we were inside the wreckage of our plane. This was where our journey started. Right away we're amazed by the finishes of this area. It felt like a "Disney" type of quality. As we ventured deeper into the jungle, more surprises arose. The detailed carvings on the temple, growing vines and cracks made the temple felt so real. Even though we're looking at it on camera, the lighting and special effects still wowed us. There was a point in the game we had to pause and stare at the screen and said "Wow...Did that just happen?" There was a lot to do in this game. With the 2 of us and no hints, we finished the game with about 5 minutes left. If you are a experienced player, a group of 4 would be perfect. Currently this game is only being offered at their Nashville location for live play. It may be a long wait for it to be installed at other locations due to COVID. We highly recommend playing this game even if it is through the remote experience. They did a great job of transforming the puzzles to an online version. Other than envying the avatar throughout the game with physically being there, we were fully satisfied with this journey. We definitely left with a priceless treasure at the end and that was our happiness! (If you do decide to try this game, please remember to let them know that you heard it from"ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) There was plenty of parking when we arrived at the complex. It was EXTREMELY hot that day and we were very excited to have an icy cold complimentary beverage on their comfy couch. You can choose from either a soft drink, beer, or a sparkling wine which is a nice touch on the customer service. This is the first place we’ve heard that allows you to bring drinks into the escape room... way to get the party started! As we peeked into the game master’s control center (it’s quite an interesting set up as all the customers can see through the glass door before they are led to the game room), we are happy to see that all of them are focused and organized as we were definitely not (beer has settled well in the tummy). The lighting and sound in the room definitely created the atmosphere that stuck with the theme. We only have a mere 60 minutes to find the antidote and escape the zombie apocalypse! We are happy to see the set design was very authentic. Maybe a few added zombie figure shadows might've even added a bit more creepiness (we’ve seen them utilized that pretty well in their Stone Oak’s location’s “The Cursed” room). The game flow was well done and it was pretty linear but there was a bit of searching that was required so some people can be designated to do that while others start solving puzzles. The only suggestion that we would have is that we’re not use to using clues/keys for a second time after it’s been used already, and we did experience a bit of that in this room so for experienced players I would definitely advise to be alert with that. This did not really hinder us from finishing the room before 60 minutes with just the two of us. We loved the two different endings this room gave for people who escaped and who didn’t. Overall, it’s a very well maintained and designed room. Don’t forget to take a nice high res photo with their high-tech camera in front of their green screen after your victory. They have many different cool backgrounds depending on the room you played. You can also purchase the photo as they print it right there for you. This location has a total of 4 games, and they are all different than the games at their Stone Oaks location. We are excited to try "The Cursed" room at the other location and see what else they have to offer but mostly because there’s another cold beer waiting for us! (If you do decide to try this room, please remember to let them know that "ESCAPETHEROOMers" sent you!) ** We don't want to go into detail and ruin any surprises for you, but you want more info like if the room is a multi-room or what other additional tips we can provide to you, feel free to email us. - Extreme Escape (Stone Oak) - "The Cursed"
LOCATION: San Antonio, Texas, USA Videos/ Photos are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: The Cursed 📅 DATE PLAYED: August 8, 2019 🎬 GENRE: Horror, Spell 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 7.5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: Up to 8 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins 💰 PRICE: $30.99/PP ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Public 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes It was about a 12-minute drive from the Extreme Escape Colonnade location to their Stone Oak location and it’s quite a different scenery here. Stone Oak location is inside a shopping complex and it can be easily seen on the second floor as they occupy pretty much the whole space up there. There’s plenty of parking. The lobby is lot more spacious here. You can choose to sit on the comfortable couches or the torture chair while sipping away your cold beverage (beer and wine complimentary to adults!). After playing their "Undead" room at their Colonnade location, we were excited to enter “The Cursed” room. As we ventured into a cabin in the woods, we realized this is not a normal cabin. The witch has put an evil spell and captured our souls. We must reverse the spell and escape! There are definitely a few “jumpy” moments in the room where we thought the “witch” was coming for us, but rest assured there are no live actors in this room. This is when you know the special effects of the lighting, sound, and smoke are utilized just right. Although we definitely heard a lot more screaming coming from the room next door so we’re very curious as to what lies on “The Other Side” (another theme room at this location). The room was very well designed and things that aren't supposed to move are bolted down so there’s not a lot of red herrings. Everything that was movable was utilized once. You really can tell the props used are very true to the storyline. There was a puzzle that took a bit more time as it had to be really precise and it was a bit sensitive. You really needed to have great eye and hand coordination for one of the puzzles. One thing we realized in both rooms that we’ve tried with Extreme Escape is that we were able to get out with ample time left with just the two of us. We love to see some more intricate puzzles that perhaps would be a it more challenging for experienced players in the future. We did see one puzzle use that was similar to the one we did in the “Undead” room at the Colonnade location. Overall, we had a lot of fun in this room and that’s an important aspect when coming out from an escape room. There are 4 games at this location and although we did not get to chat with the creators on this trip, we love to come back in the future to hear the inspirations behind the storylines as all of their room themes are so unique and between the two locations with 8 different escape room themes, there’s something for everyone! (If you do decide to try this room, please remember to let them know that "ESCAPETHEROOMers" sent you!) ** We don't want to go into detail and ruin any surprises for you, but you want more info like if the room is a multi-room or what other additional tips we can provide to you, feel free to email us. - Escape The Room (San Antonio) - "The Agency"
LOCATION: San Antonio, Texas, USA Photo property of Escape The Room Video property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: The Agency 📅 DATE PLAYED: August 8, 2019 🎬 GENRE: Spy, Mission 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 8 ppl): 8.5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: Up to 10 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins 💰 PRICE: $28/PP ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Public 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes Our next stop in San Antonio, Texas is an old friend of ours... Escape The Room! Escape The Room is one of the oldest franchise companies that originated in NYC and currently has 19 locations all over the US. This location is located in the heart of downtown Riverwalk and very close to the Convention Center. It’s quite difficult to find public parking but there’s plenty of parking lots nearby. The lobby is very spacious with a waiting area. You can easily set up a corporate event in the front. Today, we are agents attempting a secret mission in “The Agency” room. Normally, it’s just the two of us but today we had an interesting mix! We have two newcomers, two enthusiasts and two escape room owners! The room was spacious enough that even with 8 people it didn’t feel crammed. As we entered an office setting, we divided into separate areas in the room and started to divide and conquer. The room doesn’t have too much searching involved but there was a good amount of puzzles. We were happy we weren’t alone this time. The overall flow was quite nice and the game master was on point with the hint system. There was one red herring component which we thought could be changed out as it made the puzzle itself very confusing. One hearing device was also a bit tricky due to the volume being too low and unclear. There were a few design elements of the room that was unique, but some needed a bit more up-keeping. This room would be more difficult to do with just 2 people mainly because of the size and puzzle aspects of it but we did escape with only a few seconds left with 8 people. We have to say from a design and immersive aspect, we still love Escape The Room’s “Jurassic Escape” room the best. We felt that this room fell a bit short from the set design and “wow” moments but overall, we always get a good brain exercise from Escape The Room’s puzzles. We encourage enthusiasts or large groups to give this room a try and let us know what you think! (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) ** We don't want to go into detail and ruin any surprises for you, but you want more info like if the room is a multi-room or what other additional tips we can provide to you, feel free to email us. - San Antonio Panic Room - "Prison Break"
LOCATION: San Antonio, Texas, USA Videos/ Photos are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Prison Break 📅 DATE PLAYED: August 8, 2019 🎬 GENRE: Prison 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 7/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: Up to 8 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins 💰 PRICE: $25/PP ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Public 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes Our last stop in in San Antonio, Texas is at San Antonio Panic Room. This location was located a little bit outside of the busy downtown area so there’s plenty of parking outside. The lobby is very cute with a Hall of Fame polaroid’s photo wall so if you escape, you’ll be able to display your victory there. If you ever go, try and see if you can find us! They also have a party room incase you like to do an event there. Today, we are attempting their "Prison Break" room which is their hardest room according to their escape percentage. As we entered, we were put into two separate jail cells and handcuffed to the wall. The set design and props used were great and the handcuffs felt so authentic they even left a little red marking as I stretched out to look for clues. One certain prop was also quite “entertaining” in the jail cell. There was one code there that I was a bit confused as to why that was the code to open the door as the amount of numbers needed didn’t really match up. We also encountered a code that needed to be use twice which is pretty rare in escape rooms so we suggest that you take note of this unless they change it after, but you should definitely ask this question prior to your game. As we progressed into the story, it was great to see that the set design “developed” with it. The flow was nice, and the puzzles weren’t too difficult to interpret but it was definitely more on the linear side. Later on, there was one puzzle that was a bit confusing from a visual aspect which we also couldn’t get a direct answer from the game master even after the game on why it was designed that way. It didn’t really hinder us from solving the puzzle, but we got the answer from another way of thinking which was interesting. Despite some of the confusing puzzle aspects, this room was definitely fun to play. We did get out with just the two of us with a good amount of time left. Currently, this location has 3 games total and "Phase III: Human Trials" feels like their largest in terms of size. We took a sneak peek at that room and it looked pretty amazing. The third room “Cabin Fever” is also available at their sister company "Project Panic Escape Rooms" in Austin and it’s a more updated version so we decide to visit there instead so do check out our review on that room as well! - Escape Haus - "Forensics Classroom"
LOCATION: New Braunfels, Texas, USA Videos/ Photos are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Forensics Classroom 📅 DATE PLAYED: August 9, 2019 🎬 GENRE: Classroom, CSI 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 8.5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: Up To 12PPL 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins 💰 PRICE: $25/PP ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Public 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes On our way from San Antonio to Austin, Texas, we discovered a little gem along the route in New Braunfels and had to make a stop at 7:30am in the morning at Escape Haus. We are very grateful for the owner to open up for us outside of normal hours so that we can tour his amazing location. Escape Haus is located in a shopping complex with plenty of parking outside. The lobby area is huge and there’s a comfortable waiting area and another space designated for victory photos with a lot of fun props. Currently, there are 5 rooms at the location: “The Spy Room”, “Backstage at the Magic Show”, “Forensics Classroom”, “Egyptian Mysteries” and “Game Suite”. As we chugged our morning coffee, we are now ready to attempt the “Forensics Classroom” which is meant for a minimum of 6 players to a max of 12 players and it was just the two of us. The storyline is that we have to complete Miss Enigma’s Forensics course, and this is the final group project before the finish line! We need to challenge ourselves with numerous tests and problem-solving skills in order to pass her exam. The classroom setting really reminded me of when I was in elementary school. The desks and props used were very authentic. If you love the sensation of opening locks, you are at the right place! You really don’t have time to waste in here... there’s a LOT of puzzles. We found that the challenging thing about this room is to determine where the starting point is. Of course, there are items you have to search for and eventually put to use but because the room is this large and everything looked useful, you don’t really know which lock is your initial focus. The game master is actually in the room with you at this location. Normally, we would think that’s not really fun and can take away the experience but, in this case we really needed his directions. We had the owner as our game master that day and since we don’t know if other game masters are in character or not. One suggestion we would give would be maybe have them actually play a character in the room they are in and not really give obvious clues but maybe work it into their character somehow. This would make the room more immersive. Each puzzle was carefully designed to corollate to forensic work. Once you find the starting point, the game flow was much clearer and easy to follow. You can actually start at three different points and those three separate starting points had linear puzzles that followed it. These puzzles eventually came together for a final puzzle. We can imagine the complexity of resetting this room. We did manage to escape the room with a few minutes left on the clock. This room left us really wired for the rest of the day. As we peeked into his other rooms (our YouTube video will have sneak peeks of all of them), one of them especially caught our eye for the set design – “Egyptian Mysteries”. The Sphinx statue looked amazing and we can’t wait to discover what that room has to offer on our next trip! ** UPDATE - We regret to inform you that "Escape Haus" has closed its doors. - Maze Rooms Austin - "The Shed"
LOCATION: Austin, Texas, USA Videos/ Photos are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: The Shed 📅 DATE PLAYED: August 9, 2019 🎬 GENRE: Horror, Kidnap 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 8.5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: Up To 4PPL 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins 💰 PRICE: $30-45/PP (depending on group size) ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes Next stop on our list is Maze Rooms Austin. This is also a franchise with its main location in Los Angeles, California offering 19 different escape rooms. Maze Rooms Austin is one of the first escape room locations in Austin, Texas. There’s plenty of parking in front of this facility. The owners of this location builds everything in-house themselves. Today we’re trying their newest creation, “The Shed”. This room has a max capacity of 4 people. It’s probably more ideal to play with 4 but we have only two today, so the room had to be adjusted to be played by 2 people. The difficulty level we rated above is also based on 2 people. We successfully got out with a minute left on the clock. The synopsis of the story was that we were caught by the “Capitol Cannibal” killer and got locked up in his shed. He gives his victims one hour to escape before he comes back and kills them. The intro area already gave us the goosebumps. When we entered the actual room, the game master handcuffs us to the designated areas in the room and exits. We appreciated the comfort level of the handcuffs as it’s made from leather straps and it doesn’t hurt like the real metal ones. You’ll need to stretch out a lot in this room especially for two people, so comfort was important. The room design was amazing and it really felt like you’ve been captured by a maniac and have been confined to his basement and no one knows where you are. The music and sudden “surprises” definitely got us every time. I did have a little difficulty getting some items at times probably because I’m a shorty. This room does have a height requirement of 4-ft/ 5-in. This is the smallest space we’ve ever played in terms of an escape room. It was also the most clever way we've seen such a small space being used. The only thing we would recommend would be to maybe have a better visual on what actually opened when a puzzle has been solved as it’s quite dim in the room and it’s not very noticeable. Other than that, we really enjoyed the game flow and the storyline. The two other rooms there are “Spy Safe House” and “Pharaoh’s Tomb” which we got a chance to take a sneak peak also and they looked really amazing as well. We’ll need to return one day to try those out for sure. If you’ve been to Maze Rooms Austin, which game was your favorite? ** UPDATE - We regret to inform you that "Maze Rooms Austin" has closed its doors. - Lockout Austin - "CSI: Murder at the Asylum"
LOCATION: Austin, Texas, USA Videos/ Photos are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: CSI: Murder at the Asylum 📅 DATE PLAYED: August 9, 2019 🎬 GENRE: Detective, Crime 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 7/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: Up To 10PPL 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins 💰 PRICE: $27.50/PP ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Public/Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes Video above has been provided by Lockout Austin We arrived at Lockout Austin next and there’s plenty of parking right in front of this facility. There’s also ramp for handicap accessibility as well. While waiting in the spacious lobby, there’s plenty of puzzles available on the tables for you to tackle before your actual game. Currently there are 5 games at Lockout Austin and we’re trying out their “CSI: Murder at the Asylum” game today. We were paired with a group of college kids and two of them played escape rooms before but most of them did not. They played very well with us knowing that we’ve played a good amount and was very respectful when asking us to confirm if they were doing things “right”. We loved stepping back and giving some hints here and there and seeing their minds work. It was a fun experience being paired with a group that's very enthusiastic about the game and very competitive about getting out in time. The storyline of the room was that there was a mysterious murder that happened at "Pinnhurst Asylum". We were called in as a forensic team to investigate the murder but in an hour federal agents are going take over. We must beat the clock and solve the mystery! As we entered, the room was set to look like an office space and a waiting area. There was a game master in character to explain the game to us and that’s always appreciated to set the tone of the story. The deduction method of play by utilizing different puzzles forensically was done very well in this room. We have played a few other rooms with the same theme before and we liked the game flow of this room as it’s very clear and made sense. The set design could use a bit more of an eerie decor since it is an Asylum. We did like the twist and how the story played out at the end as a strong ending is always important. We also enjoyed that there was no repetitive puzzles and not too many red herrings in the room. There was one part we got stuck since it was pretty hard to notice. We did get out with some time still left on the clock. This is one of their older rooms at this location and we are curious what their updated rooms are like as most of the locks in this room were traditional. We did not get to try their newest room “Area 51-2”, but we did get to take a look at it (click on our YouTube video for a sneak peek inside) and we’re very intrigued by the set design and what surprises it holds. So I guess we’ll have to make a trip back to Austin soon! ** UPDATE - We regret to inform you that "Lockout Austin" has closed its doors. - Novel Escape - "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea"
LOCATION: Austin, Texas, USA Above photo has been provided by Novel Escape 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea 📅 DATE PLAYED: August 9, 2019 🎬 GENRE: Adventure, Submarine 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 9/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: Up To 6PPL 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins 💰 PRICE: $29/PP ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Public/rivate 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes Our final stop in Austin, Texas is a brand-new escape room location called “Novel Escape” that will be opening soon (hopefully by the time we post this review). There’s plenty of parking in front of the facility. Make sure to check out our YouTube video to see what there is to eat around there before you go to the escape room! This location currently only has one room and we’ll be beta testing it for them today. The room is called “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” and its inspired from the book! Novel Escape will have a very unique theme where each of their rooms will be inspired by a different book. When you enter the lobby, you feel as if you're stepping inside of a library. There’s a lot of books on different shelves. If you're an avid reader, you’ll love hanging out here. Brandon was getting sweaty as he doesn’t like to read much in an escape room and I usually have to take on that job, but it was close to 11pm when we arrived at this location so I was not sure how I’ll do in this room. But this room was just the opposite. There’s not much reading at all! As the owner/ gamemaster got into character and led us to captain Nemo’s submarine, we had to quickly get to work as we only had one hour to find the ancient pirate treasure and return to surface safely. Even though this is not a high-tech room, the owner was able to use minimal set design to still create the feeling of us being on the ship and underwater. We liked his fun puzzles as it was clear and had a great flow with the storyline. We were able to utilize everything in the room for different puzzles and did not encounter any red herrings. We always appreciate that aspect when doing puzzle designs as no one likes to waste time solving misleading puzzles just to realize there’s no relevance at all. We gave a few more ideas on how the room design can feel a bit more immersive but our unanimous feeling on this room was that this is a fun and spacious room for groups of all ages. We already can’t wait to see what the next chapter of Novel Escape room will be. Perhaps we need to start reading more in preparation for a head start on his next adventure! ** We don't want to go into detail and ruin any surprises for you, but you want more info like if the room is a multi-room or what other additional tips we can provide to you, feel free to email us.
