📖 THE STORY

Nikola Tesla, the great inventor and engineer, created many wonders in his lifetime including the radio, X-rays and A/C current to name a few. Knowing that some of the people he worked with could not be trusted with his machines, Tesla hid them away in Montreal in a secret study. Using puzzles, enigmas, and riddles, he concealed his most prized discoveries so that one day, only people with the greatest of minds would be able to see them. Years have passed and with his study forgotten, a restaurant was built below. You and your friends have now been contacted by the restaurant to investigate the study as the electricity in the building is acting up and some strange noises are coming from upstairs.

🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE

  • The set had a nice Victorian feel to it with the wallpaper and décor of the room such as the table and lamps. The room also had a steampunk feel to it. We had a view of the restaurant below and could see a large tesla coil that reacted to the room.

  • The props and puzzles were fun to play with and had high quality look and feel to it. They worked well into the décor of the room. The puzzles were mostly tech-based and had some clever discoveries to be found.

  • There was one puzzle that stuck out, as it revealed itself with a lot of effects and one other puzzle that was simple but very creative.

  • The story and the puzzles flowed together as it did seem like a laboratory/workshop of an inventor and we got to play with so many of his gadgets to progress.

🧩 MISSED THE MARK

  • There were a few puzzles that did not react when we solved them. We would then have to contact the GM and he had to trigger the puzzle manually on his end.

  • We found one puzzle could have had better instructions or labelled better. We also had trouble with it because a prop for a different puzzle could also fit into the slots for this one.

🏹 TAKE A SHOT?

"Tesla’s Enigmas" was located within a small restaurant/bar in Old Port named “Inventions”, which also has a Nikola Tesla theme to it. The room's set design very much immersed you into a Victorian study with some steampunk aspects to it. The puzzles and props we got to interact with felt realistic and made for a fun experience throughout the story. If you are looking for an evening with friends or your partner to have some drinks and play a casual escape room, this would be a fun option.
