Chapel Thrill Escapes is the first student-designed, student-built, student-operated non-profit escape room in the US. Their physical location recently closed down due to COVID so they decided to transform this room to a digital version for everyone to play online for FREE to commemorate it.
It seems like Dr. Venable was just about to announce to the world regarding his latest discovery when he vanished at the top of the belltower in 1934. Recently, his distant relative contacted you and want you to find out what he's been hiding in his secret study...

As we entered the doctor's study, we were given a 360 overview of the room. We strongly suggest playing this game on your desktop. Items that are clickable will show up as either magnifying glass, plus sign or exclamation symbol. We're able to closely examine items when we clicked on the magnifying glass (although there were a few times we needed to zoom even more into the photo by enlarging our computer screen), The plus signs bought up items that we needed to unlock or combine and that was designed with the Google Form platform. Please note to write down the answers or take snapshots of the items you've unlocked as you'll need to reenter the code again if you clicked out of the unlocked item.
The puzzles were probably in the middle range in terms of difficulty but we could see it being simplified to best suit the online version. The association was more clearly pointed out where as if we were there to play it in person, we would have to connect those dots ourselves. There were some cool chemical reactions during the solutions of the puzzles that we would've loved to see in person but they were able to provide the second best alternative: a prerecorded video. For anyone that needs some help, you can find a video guided hint system here.
For a student project, we're really impressed by the design. Although there were some areas that could be tweaked to provide a smoother play, it was amazing that they're able to provide this as a FREE game option during these times. And for enthusiast, as in any escape room you've played, you should know that there's always more to this than meets the eye 😉!
