Mystery Escape Room currently offers 3 Audio Escape Games that you can play at home. Here are our thoughts on the individual games:

Company: Mystery Escape Room

Language: English

Country: USA 🇺🇸

Type of Game: Digital Escape Game (W/GM) 💻

Time: 60 Minutes\

Game: Nancy Drew

Genre: Action, Adventure

Date Played: 5/18/20

Difficulty (based on 4 players): 8.5/10

Size of Team: 4-8 ppl

Price: $85/Team

You would book this audio escape game at a set time and date and a game host will be with you the entire hour. Nancy Drew was my all time favorite detective and when I was younger, I used to play all the Nancy Drew PC games. I was very excited to test out this trademarked adventure. I was a little disappointing of not being able to see any of the characters in this game at all.

The story began in front of a huge mansion and we were informed that as a group of 4 we should divide and conquer since there was a lot of rooms to explore. This game would be more fun if each player had their own login as you'll all be able to explore different places at the same time. We enjoyed finding clues and piecing together the puzzles as a team. The improvement with this game from the others was that we now have a google share drive to combine our findings. It definitely helped but you'll still need a team of very organized people. The level of difficulty for this game was definitely easier than the two so I'll definitely start here and work your way up. One issue we found that wasted a bit of time was that if you exit out of a room that you already opened with a code, you'll have to enter it again. It would be great if the game was set up where once the door was opened, it'll remain open so we know what has already been done. It would be interesting to see if this game could also be developed into an app. We felt like we were playing a video game at times with the point and click option within the mansion. If you think you got the wits and organization skills like Nancy Drew, then give this mystery a go!

Game: Minutes to Midnight

Genre: Action, Thriller

Date Played: 5/13/20

Difficulty (based on 6 players): 9/10

Size of Team: Unlimited

Time: 60 Minutes

Price: $250/Team

You would book this audio escape game at a set time and date and a game host will be with you for the entire hour. He/she will be the facilitator to distribute the 6 roles (science, police, research, communication, criminology, and geography) to the team members. If you have more than 6 people, some people will be assigned the same role and they can work together.

This game requires a lot of communication and sharing of information among team members. The amount of players and how each player plays the game can determine the final fate of the mission. The issue we found with this game is that it's difficult for us to share information using google hangout with each other especially if you are not tech-savvy. It takes a lot of time for PC users to crop and paste a photo since we need to save it as a file and attach it to the group to send it (Mac is a little faster). But since sharing information is a necessity in this game, it would be great for the company to develop a portal where we can easily place what we found and what we have to piece together still. It was very hard to keep track of what each player still had to do or have done already. As a team of 6, we got 2 answers incorrectly so we failed at the end. I can definitely see corporations using this game for team building. We did enjoy the different types of puzzles that eventually would have to be pieced together to find several mission goals.

Game: Superhero

Genre: Action, Adventure

Date Played: 3/27/20

Difficulty (based on 6 players): 8.5/10

Size of Team: 4-8 ppl

Time: 60 Minutes

Price: $75/Team

You would book this audio escape game at a set time and date and a game host will be with you the entire hour. The Superhero Escape Adventure allows you and your team to be the ones to save the day! Your goal is to find the mind-control devices that the evil supervillain known as Dr. Psionic has placed in different locations around the world. You must find the device and deactivate them before they go off!

Much like the other audio escape games offered by Mystery Escape Room SLC, we were all assigned a different role. We managed to get inside of an evil villain's apartment which allowed us to search around for clues leading to our next destination. The setup for this game was similar to "Minutes To Midnight" in which we all had access to the files that we needed to work on and communicate with each other. I love the concepts of superhero escape room themes. However, it would've been great if the "superhero" aspect could've really been implemented. Maybe some superpowers that we could really tap into in order to maximize our potential. Aside from the introduction of a supervillain character (Dr. Psionic), this felt like a typical detective game. Regardless, the ability to create an objective that requires communication to solve problems is always great!

(If you do decide to try this game, please remember to let them know that you heard it from"ESCAPETHEROOMers"!)
