📖 THE STORY

There's something peculiar going on in the Egyptian exhibit section of the museum. It appears that Felix, the night security guard couldn't resist tampering with Akmenrah's Tomb! Now the mummy has awakened and it's up to you to break the..."Mummy's Curse"!!

🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE

  • The set design for "Mummy's Curse" takes place inside a museum at the Egyptian exhibition. The warm torch lighting added a nice ambience to the room. Ocean State Escape did a great job with the collection of artifacts and showcasing the history behind each of them. We actually felt like we were learning about ancient Egyptian history while playing the game.

  • Although this is a single room escape room, Ocean State Escape was still able to utilize different tech elements to provide us with surprises along the way.

  • Since most of the mummy-themed games that we've played took place inside of a tomb, it was nice to experience a different storyline. If you've watched the movie "Night at the Museum" before then get ready to become a character inside the move yourself!

  • Most of the room was not linear so there's plenty of space for large groups to divide and conquer. The puzzles stuck with the theme and the props closely reflected the Egyptian culture.

🧩 MISSED THE MARK

  • As enthusiasts, we solved a puzzle through a hint that was given prior to solving it ourselves through decoding. That part confused us. Ocean State Escape explained to us after that most people found that puzzle being difficult. Perhaps a second version of the game could be implemented for enthusiasts by taking that hint out of the game.

  • One puzzle stumped us for awhile. The wording and alignment of the props didn't feel like they were on the same page.

  • If I had to suggest something to enhance the experience, it would be to create more of a sense of urgency throughout the game (especially towards the end). Since Akmenrah had awoken from the release of the curse, perhaps by adding in some flickering lights and sound effects would help intensify the storyline.

🏹 TAKE A SHOT?

This is the 3rd time revisiting our friends at Ocean State Escape. So far we've played all 3 games that they currently have available (read our reviews on "Nonna's House" and "Mischievous Elves"), Ocean State Escape is a family-owned business and when you visit them, they really make you feel like family! All of their games are made in house and with love. They build the games with one thing in mind and that is for the players to have FUN. In terms of difficulty, this one could be a bit more challenging due to more puzzles, dim lighting in certain occasions and identifying hieroglyphics. I would play the other two games as a warm up and then save the final face off with the "mummy's curse"!
