🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE
The lobby features an really long table, reminiscent of the grand hall in Harry Potter, which complements the variety of fantasy-themed games available at the venue.
The set design begins even before entering the game, with a meticulously crafted medieval-style door. The high ceilings contribute to the ambiance, evoking the feeling of a medieval jail cell. The dim torch lighting, pebble floors, and heavy cell doors, complete with metal handles, significantly enhance the dungeon-like experience.
We always enjoyed prison escape games where participants are separated into different cells, each tasked with solving individual puzzles. This setup fosters a sense of competition, ultimately culminating in a collaborative team effort.
The creator has effectively integrated medieval elements into the puzzle design, particularly through storytelling. We appreciated the use of knights, former prisoners, and other props that align well with the theme.
🧩 MISSED THE MARK
One of the logic puzzles contained wording that was quite confusing. It took me a considerable amount of time to solve it because the description on the wall did not align with the solution. The wording could be clearer.
We encountered a puzzle that required collaboration, which presented significant challenges. The clues provided did not effectively guide us toward understanding the solution. Although we eventually solved it, we were puzzled by the requirement for both of us to use the same solution for our respective locks, as we were accustomed to the standard rule of "one solution per lock."
A sound puzzle lacked clarity regarding the correct and incorrect triggers.
A deduction puzzle included several leftover props on the clue board, leaving us uncertain whether the puzzle was malfunctioning or if those props were unnecessary. We required a hint to understand that we needed to stack the puzzle elements, but there was no indication of the correct order. Additionally, the input was intended for a directional lock, which added to the confusion.
🏹 TAKE A SHOT?
In a 90-minute game, we anticipated having more space to explore, but most of the puzzles were concentrated in a final room where we collaborated. The puzzle designs in this room required teamwork, enhancing the escape experience. We greatly appreciated this aspect of the game. In retrospect, incorporating more technology into some puzzle elements, rather than relying on directional or physical locks, could have heightened the satisfaction of the reveals and elevated the game experience. Sure Lock Escapes showcases a variety of creative room themes, including a completely dark room. We're eager to try that one on our next visit!
