As a family, you know of your ancestors who migrated to the Netherlands. It is a story that has been passed down for generations. The other information that was conveyed dealt with your grandfather. For it is been told that when he came to the Netherlands, he came with a large fortune in-hand. You are given Grandma’s diary and it is up to you to now piece together just where Grandfather had hidden that treasure, for the diary is supposed to reveal all, but there are missing pages. I guess it’s time to explore the old family home and see if you can find the hidden treasure! Upon arrival, you find Grandma’s glasses and miraculously as you put them on you start to view the world how it was, back in the 1950’s. Going back and forth between time periods just might be the missing piece you need to find Grandfather’s treasure.

To navigate, simply click and drag as any 360 view would be, don’t forget to zoom in and out as well. All players can be in different locations when the game gives you that opportunity. There is an inventory at the bottom of the screen as well as two very important items, the diary and grandma’s glasses. Grandma’s glasses switch the room you are in to an identical room shown in the 1950s. Things that are interact-able in that era will help you piece together this puzzle. The diary on the other hand, is where you will find information and historical context to the story. There are plenty of clues hidden within so pay attention.

When playing the game, be aware that when a player solves a clue all players will get teleported to where the clue was solved, leaving those who are doing their own task to abandon it.

The game is shot using 360 degree images of a house in the country, the pictures and atmosphere are high quality and the puzzles integrate well so that each area works with the story. It is a pleasure to navigate these areas and check out the details and care that The Cari Mysteries put into this game.

Most of the puzzles were based on search and find. While looking through each area, you need to click on the items that could be of interest and can be blended into their environment very well. Another main puzzle (one of the most complicated in the game) was an auditory riddle with quite a few steps. It was extremely unique in the execution on how The Cari Mysteries pulled off this puzzle and left me bopping my head back and forth when all was said and done. Progressing through the game, make sure you pay attention to things that might change when interacting with certain objects and even if it doesn’t look like it, can be clicked on. I suggest that you try it anyway. One of the last puzzles in the game was quite devious in its secret.

"Grandfather’s fortune" was a blast to play and really was enjoyable to walk around this area in the country land of the Netherlands. The UI worked well, but the most irksome part was when it “hijacks” all other players to pay attention to the action they were not working on. I also appreciate that this game includes "Jitsi" - a built in video conferencing platform for everyone. As soon as everyone logs on, they can see each other on the website without having to have a separate platform open on their computer. The last puzzle could have used some better cluing, but we were able to escape in time and all enjoyed doing so. The Cari Mysteries: "Grandfather’s fortune" is a well designed game that will test observational skills and puzzling problems to lead you to the solution at the end of game.
