- REMOTE: Mystery Mansion Regina - "The Detective's Story"
Photos provided by Mystery Mansion Regina Company: Mystery Mansion Regina Game: The Detective's Story Country: Canada 🇨🇦 Language: English Type of Game: Remote Escape Room 🗣 Genre: Detective Date Played: 7/1/2020 Difficulty (based on 4 players): 5/10 Time: 75 Minutes Price: $20.00 CAD/ pp (Min 3 players required) We were hired to continue an unsolved case by private investigator Rick Murphy. The case dated back to the year 1951 and while Rick was on the case, he suddenly went missing. Our only hope was his office. Maybe he left some trails for us to follow... Like Mystery Mansion Regina's other remote escape rooms, this one also had an inventory portal. All the online games use "Telescape" as the portal (You can read in detail how it works on our "Cut Throat" review). The avatar, Mitch, had always been an entertainer throughout all our games. This time was no exception. He was very much in character as a rookie detective in the field. He made a serious detective game into a hilarious "Rated R" room through his puns. If you are curious on how that happened, just let him run the game. There were a few times during the game where we thought the puzzle design would be more fun to play in person but was hard to enjoy in the remote version. They felt too long to operate by the avatar and we could only watch. We did give some feedback on how this could be improved so hopefully you'll get the smoother version when you play the game. There were many puzzles to go through and due to the previous mentioned parts, it was necessary to have a 75 minute game. We completed the game as a team of 4 with 8 minute and 25 seconds left. The room was pretty Gen-1 in terms of tech but we didn't mind that since the puzzles were creative and stuck with the story line. The ending was a nice touch leaving us with a cliffhanger. The Detective's office is the first of a three part escape room story based on the stolen necklace. We are very excited to see what the next two rooms will be. From the sneak peek we got from the owner, we can tell it's definitely going to be something refreshing and different from a normal "room" concept. When they finish the other two rooms, you'll be able to play all three back to back. Who doesn't love an escape marathon? *** This game can no longer be booked as a remote game but can still be booked as an in-person experience *** (If you do decide to try this experience, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) - REMOTE: Mystery Mansion Regina - "Seen"
Photos provided by Mystery Mansion Regina Company: Mystery Mansion Regina Game: Seen Country: Canada 🇨🇦 Language: English Type of Game: Remote Escape Room 🗣 Genre: Horror Date Played: 7/12/2020 Difficulty (based on 4 players): 5/10 Time: 75 Minutes Price: $21.00 CAD/ pp We always have a great time playing Mystery Mansion Regina's remote escape rooms as their avatars are very interactive with the audience and often times they are hilarious (beware, the room is Rated 14A for coarse language, dark comedy, and inappropriate themes). In this game, we replied to fill a position as a babysitter from a post by DirkyDirk420 on Craigslist. This was no ordinary baby...It's a BIG 6 ft tall baby (great job Owen)! The initial idea for this game was to have two different sides of Seen: Seen A and Seen B. Two teams will compete to win the end "prize". We've played both sides but the owner decided to keep only the A side as a remote option. Perhaps one day he'll put it back for the competition mode again with some renditions. It was a lot of fun playing against another team but we didn't exactly feel the competition aspect of the game. It was more like we were just playing two different rooms and escaped earlier and waited for the other team to finish. The starting point of both rooms were the same. We got an audio intro of the game and a link to access the telescape inventory portal. If you have played their "Cut Throat" room, you might recognize that it's the same room as Seen A. There's only a few puzzles that might seem similar but the entire story line and most of the puzzles were replaced. The A side had a bit more space to explore than the B side. If you ever get to play the B side, the puzzles were a bit more challenging. Side A had more reading materials than side B. The telescape inventory system definitely helped since some members were able to search the room while others were doing the reading assignments. This was a 75 minute room which we completed in about 40 minutes or so. No need to rush and definitely spend some quality time with the baby. You can have him read out all the items that needed reading as the stories were quite entertaining and Owen did a great job with the narration. Some of our team members were more into solving puzzles and finishing the game with a quicker time. I actually prefer to take my time to enjoy the performance by the avatar. Some avatars actually really enjoy this part of the job so give them a chance to showoff their acting skills! With 75 minutes you'll definitely be able to escape in time. If we had to pick a favorite, side A wins by a tad. The story line had a better flow and the puzzle designs were funnier (especially if the owner is going to incorporate one of my suggestions). We don't want to give away any spoilers but the development of the character from A to B side is a continuation of a story. It would definitely be worth playing B side if it ever becomes a remote game or if you ever get to visit their physical location. *** We regret to inform this game is no longer available for booking but check out other games on their website*** (If you do decide to try this experience, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) LOCATION: Kanata, Ontario, Canada Photo above is property of Unlocked Ottawa Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Superheist 📅 DATE PLAYED: March 14, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Sci-Fi, Adventure 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 Players): 4.5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 3-8 PPL (Max 6 Adults) 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins 💰 PRICE: CAD $24/PP (Adults), $22/PP (Youth Ages 8-18) ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: YES 📖 THE STORY You and your team of supervillains are up to no good again. You heard that there’s something super powerful inside Emma Frost's "Experimental Weapons Facility" that could control the entire universe. Your mission debrief has been left for you in a “top-secret” backpack… Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The set design had a “Kim Possible” type of vibe. Kids would notice various types of superhero logos & posters right away. The puzzles were designed to be non-linear so groups can divide & conquer. The puzzles that had to do with the security systems and how to deactivate them was relatable to a secret laboratory theme. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One puzzle that we had to solve clued us to a location which we felt that people might be able to find it in advance and would skip the actual puzzle by accident. If there’s a way to lock it up and allow access only when we solve the puzzle that would be better. (update: 6/28/23 - this has since been corrected by the venue). A light was needed for one of the puzzles. We would have preferred to be told if we could use our own flashlight if none was going to be provided in the room (although the owner did explain that usually there is one. So just in case you weren’t provided with one, know that you can use your own on your cellphone). One of the decors felt like a red herring as it was not a decorative type of poster to be in a laboratory. We suggest taking it out. There was some information left behind from an old puzzle that was still in the room. We suggest taking them out as it was confusing and could be seen as a red herring. The final item that we were supposed to retrieve didn’t feel like it belonged in that location. It would have been better if it was secured in a safe or displayed at a more “prestigious” location so the player could feel that final victory when they ultimately “steal” it. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This location is a family run business and many of their players are kids and new to escape rooms. The puzzles are quite easy, and they can even adjust the difficulty level by taking adding or removing puzzles based on group requests. The puzzles do get progressively harder so do leave more time towards the end. This room can also be booked with their party room if you would like to throw a birthday party there. Train your young ones early and you never know, they might become a real secret agent one day! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO You’ll need a min of 3 players for one of the puzzles. LOCATION: Kingston, Ontario, Canada Photo above is property of Sherlock's Escapes Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: A Scandal in Kingston 📅 DATE PLAYED: March 15, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Mystery, Detective 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 Players): 6.5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-8 PPL (Ages 16+) 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: CAD $27.50/PP (2-3PPL), $23.50/PP (kids, miliary, students) ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: YES 📖 THE STORY A woman named Irene is a bit obsessed with Sherlock. She stole something from him just to gain his attention. Sherlock needs you to break into her apartment and retrieve that important information back. He is only able to distract her for exactly 60 minutes… Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The room was decorated like a normal apartment but full of secrets. It’s an interesting way of utilizing a small space. Several props in the room did make us feel like we were performing detective work. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One of the puzzles didn’t have clarity in the clues. We had to assume that perhaps they meant the same thing. A prop was utilized several times in the game which seemed repetitive. A directional puzzle was not very clear in terms of having one solution per puzzle. A clue indicator was meant to inform us about using a certain prop but because of the location and the way it was presented, we thought it had associated with another puzzle. One of the puzzles took almost half of the game time. The process of "search and find" was way too long and felt like a “time-filler”. Some props and decor can definitely use some updating. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This is one of the older games at Sherlock’s Escape. The manager did inform us that changes are coming and that this room is getting a facelift soon. Currently, the storyline, puzzles, and set design all need a good amount of work. We are big fans of Sherlock Holmes and we love the story concepts that Sherlock’s Escape is trying to create. I hope that we'll see some improvement in their IRL games when we're in the area next time. ALSO: Sherlock’s Escape has online audio escape rooms that you can play from the comfort of your home. We loved their “Surviving Summer Camp” & “Breaching the Boss’s Office”. Do check them out! - Improbable Escapes - "Neverland: Heist on the High Seas"
LOCATION: Kingston, Ontario, Canada Photo above is property of Improbable Escapes Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Neverland: Heist on the High Seas 📅 DATE PLAYED: March 15, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Adventure, Pirates 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 Players): 8/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 3-14 PPL (Recommend 2-8PPL) 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: CAD $29.95/PP ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: YES 📖 THE STORY You’ve been captured by Captain Hook and taken prisoner aboard the Jolly Roger! You heard a rumor that somewhere on board lies a map leading to a great treasure. Can you get free, take hold of the ship, and find the gold before Hook returns in an hour?! Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Once again, Improbable Escapes really delivered on the set design – clearly a strength for this company! We felt each step of the story, from being locked in the brig, to exploring Hook’s ship, to disembarking at the beach to search for the treasure. There were multiple levels used to make the most of the space, and at least one person in your group should be able to climb stairs. However, there was also a workaround for people who need (or prefer) to avoid them. This is an exceptionally cooperative room. By far the majority of the puzzles required communication between team members in different locations, facilitating a great sense of teamwork. Several of them also sparked curiosity about the other side of the experience sufficient to make us switch roles mid-solve. They managed to make some puzzles more challenging than they initially appeared, and they delivered an excellent rendition of an audio puzzle that made it far more accessible for those without a musical ear. The puzzles directly related to tasks you would expect to perform in this scenario, fulfilling many of our pirate fantasies. Overall, the puzzles shone for their variety, quantity, and cohesion with the theme. From the intro in the gorgeous storybook hallway to the final outro that creates some additional final urgency, the game sweeps you up in the world they have created. There is one particularly magical moment early in the game. It was such a beautiful concept that was excellently implemented, and they placed it at the perfect moment when players are unlikely to be distracted to maximize the likelihood that people will catch it. Keep your eyes peeled from the start! 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There was one puzzle where we found the lighting system signaling your status and what you needed to do next very confusing. It was hard for us to know if we were getting the wrong answer or just unsure which one we should be working on. This would be an easy fix to keep from detracting from what was otherwise an entertaining and cooperative puzzle. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Neverland was easily our favorite room at Improbable Escapes – not because they don’t have other great games, but this one took things to another level. (Caveat – we have not played Seven Dwarfs in person, only online – so this could be another in-person contender!) This unforgettably playful experience delivers fabulous immersion and rewarding cooperative, hands-on puzzles within a cohesive storyline. We were hard-pressed to come up with meaningful criticisms, and see it as a room with widespread appeal – it was certainly family-friendly and could accommodate larger groups, but also worked well for us as two enthusiasts. If you’ve ever dreamed of joining Peter Pan’s crew and taking on Hook, this is your chance – and the trip to Kingston is well worth it! (Note: this experience is also available online, if you don’t think you’ll have the opportunity to play in-person.) 🔎 HINT What’s in the hand might be left behind. Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO This game is located at their Wonderland location, about 15 minutes drive from their downtown headquarters. There is plenty of free parking here, and a fantastic board game café with drinks, light snacks, and nearly 600 games you can play (excellently organized), as well as a number for sale. The entire venue is crafted with the same care and creativity evident in their rooms, with a whimsical Alice-in-Wonderland theme that pervades everything from the pendant lights over the café counter to the drawer pulls in the bathrooms. Once again, the staff is incredibly helpful and enthusiastic. It’s an absolutely charming and welcoming environment. - Improbable Escapes - "The Undersea Overthrow"
LOCATION: Kingston, Ontario, Canada Photo above is property of Improbable Escapes Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Undersea Overthrow 📅 DATE PLAYED: March 15, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Adventure, Deep Sea Expedition 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 Players): 7/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 3-14 PPL (Recommend 3-8PPL) 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: CAD $29.95/PP ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: YES 📖 THE STORY You are part of a submarine crew slated to journey to Atlantis to recover a priceless artifact. However, the captain, Reginald Ripemoph, just fired you all and replaced you with a bunch of ne’er-do-wells intent on selling the piece to the highest bidder on the black market. You have come to hijack the vessel to try and recover the treasured object in order to put it in a museum where it belongs. Reginald and his crew will be there in 60 minutes, so you’d best make it quick! Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The video clips introducing and progressing the story are humorous and well-produced, adding depth and fleshing out the backstop of the scenario. There was an unexpected element to the outro that brought you back to the central goal of the mission and your role in rescuing the artifact. You progress through three distinct environments, each impressive in its own way and evoking its own feel. There is crisp, clean design in the sub with a bit of a cartoony spin, a refreshing departure from the typical grungy tin can (though that can have its own appeal). The second section was intricately beautiful, and takes advantage of the ceiling height, with multiple levels. We particularly enjoyed one element that gave you a shift in perspective and another opportunity to work cooperatively. This is a very tech-heavy room without any traditional locks. There was one element that we found particularly fun and a bit futuristic. When it comes to the puzzles, there is a lot of effective signposting. We didn’t perform well in this game, but most of that was squarely on us and some poor observational skills. There was a nice variety of puzzles, with a different feeling in the submarine versus the later environments. They included both cooperative puzzles and one that focused on the sense of touch, which we always enjoy (when done well). 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The middle environment had extensive set dressing, which contributed to the immersive atmosphere but was more challenging to sift through for necessary puzzle elements. The early part of the game has an adaptive AI element to help people who are struggling to progress through the game. We appreciate this in theory, but for us it created a rough start to the experience. We got distracted early on and missed a key (and obvious) instruction, leading to a late start to the AI-regulated section. What ensued was then a confusing and frustrating sequence where we would start to solve something only to have it immediately shut off and something else be indicated. We can see how the AI could be an advantage, and our situation was likely a rare one. However, it was a miss in our case. Many of the puzzles in the first section related to things that you might actually need to do in a submarine – or so we imagine! The puzzles in the middle section had components that fit the scenery, but the mechanisms or underlying goals were not as thematic. While this is not uncommon in escape rooms, it was notable in comparison to the first section and some of their other games. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? There is a lot to appreciate about The Undersea Overthrow! While our poor start set us behind and influenced the remainder of our game, we can definitely see it being a fabulous experience if you avoid that early issue. There is a lot to do, and we wished we would have had another person or two, though we know some enthusiasts are certainly far faster than us! However, it would be family-friendly and suitable for larger groups. The game excels at drawing you into the mission, engaging you in each unique setting, and integrating much of its tech very smoothly. If you’ve ever dreamed of being a deep sea explorer, now’s your chance! 🔎 HINT Be sure the video instructions are finished before you being searching! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO This game is located at Improbable Escapes’ Headquarters. The lobby is quite spartan, with minimal decor and no seating. There are lockers for your valuables, a coat rack, and a bathroom two flights up accessible by stairs or elevator. They do have a number of tabletop and escape games available for purchase (discounted when you purchase in conjunction with a room). Parking is paid, on-street (HONK mobile app) or in nearby lots, and was readily available on the Sunday afternoon we were there. Staff is very friendly and welcoming! Rumor has it, a cure has been stashed in a research facility in Canada. Time is running out and you are humanities last hope… Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The game designer was clever at utilizing the blue lighting and the stairs down into the entrance area of the game to create an illusion of an arctic sensation. At times you would even feel cold breezes in various parts of the rooms. The objective was clear and every time we completed a task, we received a confirmation. We really enjoyed a deduction puzzle that was created by pipes and air ducts. After solving the problem, we felt like engineers. There was a puzzle in the room that we solved without using the intended way. We were glad that the game master didn’t interrupt our flow and let us complete the puzzle with our own “solution”. Since everything in the room was fair game (except if your actions might damage their props), this unexpected discovery made it more realistic to us. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK A color sticker on a prop made one of the initial puzzles confusing. It’s probably best just to take away the color to avoid red herring. One of the props in the room could have been more impressive if it actually would move. A puzzle towards the end could be quite difficult for a small group since it’s on a timer. If the difficulty level could be adjusted for group sizes, it might be fairer to players. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This game is located at their headquarters (Downtown) location. All the themes here were inspired by movies. If zombies aren’t your cup of tea, then perhaps you want to visit a Mayan temple or dive in a submarine or investigate a creepy hospital or maybe even become a student at the famous wizard’s academy! There’s something for everyone. Although we wanted this game to have a bit more jumps scare and eerie vibe, it is more geared towards families. So, these might be the friendliest zombies you’ll ever encounter! If you’re passing the Kingston area during your Canada trip, definitely go play some games at Improbable Escapes. You and your intrepid colleagues must figure out how to access the temple and find this coveted artifact, which has not been seen in thousands of years. The only way in or out of this remote location is by helicopter, and yours will be leaving in just 60 minutes! Video above is property of Improbable Escapes 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE We were really impressed with the use of space for this room! The overall square footage isn’t super high (and we don’t think you’d ever want 14 players in there, though it’s the listed max), but they absolutely maximize every square inch. Yet, it doesn’t feel overcrowded - and the ways that they do so actually contribute to some of the adventure-y feel of the game! And this is one of the ways the game shines - you will definitely feel like you are an explorer off on an adventure in the jungle. It starts the moment you walk in and are greeted with an incredible jungle canopy and the intriguing (but sealed) temple entrance. You will crawl, slide, poke, and peer in your expedition! However, they also keep things accessible - the crawling, sliding, and stair elements can be accomplished by a single player or bypassed entirely if they don’t work for the group. Some of the puzzles felt very fresh, and we had a few delightful a-has! There was one in particular that facilitated cooperation in a very clever fashion, and overall the puzzles were rewarding, fair, and felt well-integrated within the storyline. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK This was a great game, without any major misses, so our comments here are rather nitpicky…in the mission brief, it wasn’t clear why the helicopter had to leave in 60 minutes (and why we were doing our expedition just now, if so). Just another line or two to the story (is there a big storm coming? A rival archaeological team just behind us?) to flesh things out would make it a bit more robust. There were two puzzles where we generally knew what to do, but had some difficulty implementing, such as needing to distinguish images that were more similar to one another than they needed to be. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? "The Legend of the Mayan Temple" is one of the oldest rooms at Improbable Escapes. However, it had a recent facelift with the integration of some new tech, and we would not have guessed it was an older game! It is considered one of their most difficult rooms (they offer unlimited hints), and we really appreciated their ability to craft creative and challenging puzzles that had clear solutions (once we figured out what to do). It includes almost every aspect and feature of an ancient temple you can imagine, all in a very natural and organic way. Whether you are a Jumanji-loving family, or a group of Indiana Jones and Lara Croft wannabes, you can find the South American adventure of your dreams in Kingston Ontario at Improbable Escapes. 🔎 HINT Search thoroughly everywhere you go! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO This game is located at Improbable Escapes’ Headquarters. - Improbable Escapes - "Coroner's Report"
LOCATION: Kingston, Ontario, Canada Photo above is property of Improbable Escapes Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Coroner's Report 📅 DATE PLAYED: March 13, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Horror, Asylum 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 Players): 5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-7 PPL (Ages 16+) 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: CAD $89.95 (3PPL), $29.95/PP (Each Additional) ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: YES 📖 THE STORY The building that now houses Improbable Escapes’ HQ was originally Ambrosia General Hospital, before the facility was shut down because of the staff's propensity for cruel and unusual treatment of their patients. Your crew was wandering around town one night and decided to stop in and explore the abandoned premises. When your gang ignores horror protocol and splits up, those who went downstairs find themselves trapped and screaming for help. The rest of you have no choice but to venture down to free your friends, and then work together to find a way out of the bowels of the building after the doors slam shut behind you. Video above is property of Improbable Escapes 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The basement lends itself naturally to the creation of a dark, abandoned environment befitting a condemned hospital. There is an early choice whereby one or two individuals will have a more intense experience - for the first few minutes. Ideal for the horror fan(s) in your group! While you are cautioned about jump scares and being touched, the live action horror components are occasional and atmospheric, rather than being relentless and 'in your face'. After all, the fear of what might be is worse than the reality of what is. The decor is severe(d), bloody, and grim. As the environment is somewhat low-light; you are provided with a flashlight. To take further advantage of this, some puzzles rely on senses other than sight. Although we are not horror room junkies, we found the level of fear to be appropriate and were able to focus on working on the puzzles despite the moments of dread. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The low-light was a double edged sword, as some of the locks were hard to read - a few more flashlights would've helped! There wasn't much linear flow to the story or overall progression through the hospital - more of an atmospheric experience than a narrative one. The most impressive set piece was for viewing only; we were hoping for a chance to interact with it and examine the components as part of the game play, but it was not to be. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? If you've done a number of horror rooms and are looking for something new and over the top, this might be too tame for your tastes. However, if you are on the fence and are looking for an accessible, non-confrontational horror room that still makes your heart beat fast and gives you the fear, this is the room for you! Older kids who like haunted houses will find this to have a similar level of dread; we wished our kids had been with us, as they are huge fans of all things Halloween. While I'm a fan of horror, my partner most definitely is not…yet, we both found Coroner’s Report to be a fun (and occasionally blood-curdling) experience that should be manageable for enthusiasts across the spectrum. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO "Coroner's Report" is located at Improbable Escapes’ Headquarters location downtown. - Improbable Escapes - "The TriWizard Trials"
LOCATION: Kingston, Ontario, Canada Photo above is property of Improbable Escapes Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: The Triwizard Trials 📅 DATE PLAYED: March 12, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Fantasy, Wizardry 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 Players): 7/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 3-7 PPL (Competition Mode: +7PPL) 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: CAD $89.95 (3PPL), $29.95/PP (Each Additional) ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: YES 📖 THE STORY You have been invited to attend Wizzle Wozzle's Academy of Wizardry. In order to pass the entry exam for this prestigious Academy, you must succeed at a gauntlet of three trials that will test your ability to brew potions, tame beasts, cast spells, and more! Aspiring wizards must move quickly but surely in order to surmount the challenges and prove themselves worthy of the Wizard title. Video above is property of Improbable Escapes 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The blend of hands-on activities, modern tech, and dramatic reveals definitely captures the experience of being a wizard! The set design is extensive, well-crafted, and detailed to truly give players the feeling of working their way through the Academy. There is one room in particular where we really just wanted to pause and take in all the truly magical, wondrous, and playful elements! The combination of whimsically fun elements and more 'dangerous' aspects reflects the diverse nature of Wizardry and makes this room fun for all ages. Puzzles utilize a variety of physical senses (audio, tactile, etc.), making for a more varied solving experience and allowing people with different skillsets to shine. Some elements have recently been updated, so if you've only done this room virtually early in the pandemic, give it a whirl in real life! 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The response time on some of the technical aspects was a bit laggy, leading to some repeated attempts at the proper solution before getting it to take. The varied and colorful lighting contributed to the ambience but also led to a few moments where it was a bit difficult to see and contributed to some confusion as to what needed to be done. There were a couple of times when we felt we had completed a task but hadn't received a solid confirmation that we'd utilized the elements properly, or observed an indication of what had changed so that we could progress. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? For Harry Potter fans who have longed to be a wizard, this game is an absolute must!! And for escape room fans (whether you've done one room or a hundred) who prefer working with their hands rather than cracking codes and opening locks, this game will be a winner for sure. There are many feats of sorcery to perform, so smaller groups (like the two of us!) may find themselves pressed for time. This makes it great for groups of friends as well as families, and is light-hearted and full of life-size surprises that will put smiles on everyone's faces. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO "The TriWizard Trials" is located at Improbable Escapes’ Headquarters downtown. - TRAPPED Mississauga Escape Room - "Room 057"
LOCATION: Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Photo above is property of TRAPPED Mississauga Escape Room Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Room 057 📅 DATE PLAYED: September 30, 2021 🎬 GENRE: Thriller 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 4 Players): 7/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 3-7 PPL (Recommended 4-6PP) 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: CAD $28/PP ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: YES 📖 THE STORY The year is 2036 and you have had another vague dream of a time in a hospital on a remote island long ago. They keep reoccurring but always stop on a door labelled #057 that never opens. You want to remember if this is real, but the virus stripped you of your memories that you have been struggling hard to gain back. With your recruited team, your vague recollections have led you back to this same hospital to uncover the truth. Can you reclaim your lost memories and discover what happened within these eerie halls? *Note: This is a standalone sequel of a previous game by TRAPPED, "Contaminated Hospital". Video above is property of TRAPPED Mississauga Escape Room 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Room 057 combines clever use of objects and well-made technical components to guide players through the discovery. A truly unexpected surprise is carefully crafted into the game that thrilled my team and made us stop to appreciate it. Set design was solid and the use of coloured lights helped build atmosphere. There is a good variety of puzzles that provide excellent “aha” moments as they physically open boxes or reveal secrets. Each players had something that could play to their strength and could have their moment to shine in the room. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There was one puzzle that were a little long and tedious for a 60-minute escape room. Time became a key thing as there is a lot to do in the hour. There is component that is used by several puzzles that wasn’t made clear in the beginning. More of a heads up than anything else but there is a safe in the room that will lock you out for 2 minutes at a time if you input the incorrect code twice. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? "Room 057" provides some really unique and interesting twists that kept my team engaged and determined to follow solve this mystery and I admit I didn’t expect the ending! This is a challenging game that would benefit more experienced players as it requires more layered puzzling to piece together clues and solutions. I recommend this type of game for groups looking for a break from the tradition locks and who enjoy a little eeriness to their games. Each time we solved a puzzle was a true experience as things unfolded and opened before our eyes. The surprise at the end was a perfect way to end this experience. - Daydream Adventures - "The Ice Cave"
LOCATION: Toronto, Ontario, Canada Photo above is property of Daydream Adventures Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: The Ice Cave 📅 DATE PLAYED: March 16, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Sci-Fi, Fantasy 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 5 Players): 6/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 3-8 PPL 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: CAD $43/PP + Tax ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: YES 📖 THE STORY A meteorite has struck the Danforth, causing portals to open up that will take you to strange new worlds. One of these portals has opened into an ice cave. Stepping in, you realize this mystical cave bares the resemblance of a temple that looks like it has been abandoned for quite some time. As you listen you realize that this cave has a creature trapped within it, holding them there with magic. As brave adventurers, can you uncover the tale that lies within these walls? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Daydream Adventures describes the room as an “immersive art installation” which barely describes how beautiful this room is. The décor and set design of the room is something we would expect from a world class play. Not a single padlock to be found in this room which contained so many hidden secrets. The tech used for the puzzles were clever and concealed well to make the room that much more magical. They used a lot of light direction to guide you to where you needed to look next. As we transitioned from one part of the story to the next, it was clear what our goal was. Each puzzle worked with a cryptic poem. Each puzzle would also have a crystal that can be touched to repeat the poem as many times as you need. A very dramatic final puzzle made for an amazing finish to the overall experience of the room. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There is nothing major that stood out as a miss. This was a top room that needs to be experienced by all. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? "The Ice Cave" teleported us into a another world with the amount of detail put into the set design and audio of the game. The crafty puzzles and the detail of the story weaved seamlessly together for a memorable experience. The bulk of the puzzles also encouraged teamwork as they would be easier solved with more hands. We played with 5 and found that to be a solid number to allow everyone to participate and see all the puzzles. For anyone who loves a gorgeous set, an engaging story or magical puzzles, you would enjoy this room, but this room is highly recommended for any adventurer looking for an unforgettable time! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Street Parking available Off the Line 2 (Bloor – Danforth) subway, between Coxwell and Woodbine stations Lobby with seating area Located in the basement, one flight of stairs down There are 2 toilets. - FantEscapes - "Magicarium"
LOCATION: Guelph, Ontario, Canada Photo above is property of FantEscapes Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Magicarium 📅 DATE PLAYED: December 29, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Magic 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 3 Players): 6/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-8 PPL (Groups 5-8PPL will be split into 2 teams) 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: CAD $25/PP ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: YES 📖 THE STORY Seeking to prove yourself in the ways of magic, you have been given a choice. Follow the path of light to gain access to the white crystal and the Magicarium or to take head the path of dark by seeking the dark crystals and the power of the Magicarium you hope to steal. Regardless of your choice, all you need is a wand, a cloak, and a desire to succeed. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The duality of this experience is outstanding - you can easily replay this game by switching paths with no puzzle overlap. The set design was nuanced and I loved the little additions that helped immerse players from the wands, the ceiling tiles, and the way artifacts were used to guide players. The puzzling uses a mix of newer puzzles (using the wand to activate passages) and old school (locks) which I enjoyed. It gave satisfaction throughout as we moved through rooms and revealed hidden elements. The puzzles made use of logic based situations and the erasable notepad made things so much easier to help track. The side puzzles do a great job to ensure all players have something to do during the game as some sections are tight quarters - these side quests gave us a chance to spread out. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK I wish there was more impact with the choice you made - I felt regardless of the choice the outcome would not change much in the story. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? "Magicarium" is a fantastical magician adventure that is filled with whimsy and intrigue for all players. Holding a wand up as you navigate the puzzles, pear into display cabinets, and complete the tasks laid before you immersed us in ways we haven’t seen in awhile. The level of detail and dedication is obvious and the payout is an enjoyable experience that is tailored to all players. We ended up needing no hints and still felt the challenge which, to us, is a strong sign! Now get your cloak and head on over to get your membership. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Street Parking only Not wheelchair accessible (basement facility) Lobby with couch seating, costumes for photos, and various memorabilia to examine and explore Geeky Boutique has oddities, gifts and treats you can purchase like: Harry Potter hats, Lego, Steampunk jewelry, etc. Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) #JillianRaymond #IRLescaperoom #EscapeRooms #FantEscapes #Magic #Ontario #Canada
- FantEscapes - "The Arcane Archives"
LOCATION: Guelph, Ontario, Canada Photo above is property of FantEscapes Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: The Arcane Archives 📅 DATE PLAYED: December 29, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Fantasy 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 3 Players): 6/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-8 PPL 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: CAD $25/PP ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: YES 📖 THE STORY You have always been curious about the artifacts and wonders hidden in the world and still needing to be discovered…but also kept safe out of dark hands. The membership houses these secrets for only the few chosen to be privy too and you, my dear Arcanian, are being tasked to prove your worthiness. It will take your strength, curiosity, and wit to move through the bureaucracy of the archives…and maybe a few catastrophes in the mix. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Having a attendant in the room to run the archives really elevated this experience to make you feel like you were searching the archives for clues. The balance of new age puzzling and traditional once again ticked all the boxes for me as it increased suspense and rewarded players as they moved through the game. The little easy level bag was a very nice touch for players needing just a little nudge without have to ask for a hint. Having players use tokens to bribe the attendant for clues is a very fun and interactive touch. I was not expecting the final puzzle reveal and it was extremely well done in its build up! You get a membership card (with your photo!) at the end and an opportunity to join a Discord group that will offer more games and experience to create a more immersive experience outside the room 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The way the file and box puzzles worked made me think larger groups may struggle to all be involved - 3 people were a good number for us. There were these added details in files that were labelled red herrings but I would have loved to see more information integrated in the game story. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? "The Arcane Archives" reminded me of the wonders of immersive escape rooms on a level of cosy and whimsy I have not seen in awhile. If you want to feel like a true applicant to a unique and quirky society that mixes archival investigation with stopping the demise of the order then this adventure will be for you. I love the possibility of this room expanding in Discord and further experience outside the room and am eager to explore it.
