- Escape Room Concord NH - "The Sanctuary"
LOCATION: Concord, New Hampshire, USA Photo above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: The Sanctuary 📅 DATE PLAYED: September 30, 2021 🎬 GENRE: Mystery, Occult 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 PPL): 7.5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-10 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins 💰 PRICE: $150/Group (Up to 5PPL) ☎️ BOOKINGTYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY It is believed that "The Sanctuary", a mystical place was created by a group of monks. Legend has it that these monks protected this sanctuary which contained the greatest mystery of all... life. At some point in time, evil desecrated the sanctuary and life was lost. It was then, a curse fell upon this mystical place... After discovering that your great aunt died venturing into the sanctuary, you find a clue that leads you on your own path to find this once mystical place. No one has lived to tell the tale of what's inside the sanctuary... will you? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE "The Sanctuary" is not a horror room, but there's something eerie about the storyline and the dark floors & monastery feel that sets the tone for what you're about to experience. From the wooded doors and tables to the cathedral glass windows to the various props that reminded us that we're in a sacred place, we were immersed into the storyline right away. There were so many different types of puzzles that we've encountered throughout the game that every player is bound to find something that they'll like or is their forte. My favorite ones were the logical based ones and Brandon of course opted for most of the physical ones. Since most of this game was mostly non-linear, it was quite easy for us to divide the tasks. The entire game was designed and build around that final meta puzzle. It was amazing to see what we've discovered along the way were all used in someway. Once again that final reveal was a lovely surprise. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Somethings had opened or dropped as we heard the sound but the actual prop sometimes did not open to the extend where we don't have to use our fingers to pry. Not sure if that reveal could be a bit more obvious? As enthusiasts we're super careful when it comes to props and a few things in this room needed a bit more "strength" than what we're use to. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This room might not seem like there's a lot to in the beginning but you'll be surprised with how much you'll need to complete as you open up its "doors", literally. Don't get stuck on the beginning for too long (although you might just get lucky and receive a little bit of help). Teamwork and communication are two essential things you'll need in order to beat this game. We loved the little episode we had during the game where at one point Cici thought it was a design fail that her arm wasn't long enough to reach something. It's this kind of memory that will let us remember this room forever. From what we've experienced in this room, we know you'll be creating some fun memories too! Because of this, we'll definitely be back for their other rooms in the future! - Escape Room Concord NH - "The Dragon's Chamber"
LOCATION: Concord, New Hampshire, USA Photo above is property of Escape Room Concord NH Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: The Dragon's Chamber 📅 DATE PLAYED: June 19, 2022 🎬 GENRE: Fantasy 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 3 PPL): 8/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-8 ppl (Recommend 4-6PPL) 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins 💰 PRICE: $30/PP, $120/Group (Min $140 if less than 4PPL) ☎️ BOOKINGTYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: No 📖 THE STORY An evil wizard imprisoned the world’s last known dragon, but he eventually fell prey to her anger. You are young wizards who are now trying to get in and take control of the dragon…only to get locked inside! You have a potion that will keep the dragon calm for one hour, but if you don’t escape by then… you’ll be in trouble! This is your primary goal - escape! However, on your way in, you are shocked to see a dragon’s egg! If only you could find a way to steal it, you could have a dragon of your own…that would be a worthy quest indeed! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE We definitely felt like we had stepped into a wizard’s castle, adjacent to a dragon’s lair. The owners have an uncanny ability to create an incredibly thematic and immersive environment in a somewhat minimalistic way. Each piece of set dressing is designed and placed with intent, leaving plenty of space for people to move around. The quality of the decor is stellar, with some really memorable pieces, and it’s further augmented by the sound and lighting design. This was perhaps the most successful low-light room we've done, as many puzzles incorporated light and sound to one degree or another. The overall effect creates an enticing ambience while also facilitating a luxuriously open space. While still tech-heavy, this room does incorporate more locks than their other game that we played - "The Enigma", but in a way that is completely thematic - envision chests with chains and heavy iron locks - yet another way they have tailored the room to give you the sense that you've truly gone back in time. This game has an unusual twist in its format. The heart of the game, which you aim to complete within 60 minutes, is to “win” by escaping "The Dragon’s Chamber". However, there is an additional quest (incorporating an additional room that is just visible enough to be a tease), which you can choose to add on at the end in lieu of escaping - attempting to steal the dragon’s egg. Nobody has been able to complete both in 60 minutes, which would be extremely challenging. I’m sure there might be some enthusiast groups who would be worthy competitors! Therefore, groups often return to valiantly try again. In yet another break from traditional rooms, you are allowed to take notes as you play, which they hold on to but will give you when you return. You have to start from the beginning each time, trying to speed run through the parts you have already completed - hopefully having most of the solutions written down. From there, you continue forward on the quest. While you have unlimited hints in the main game, there are no hints for the auxiliary quest - except for one that they will give you if you run out of time and need to return again. This setup creates a cool option of being able to “win” by escaping (or having had that option) but also to keep playing and to even be able to return. It also poses a new challenge of trying to remember the puzzles (or interpret your notes) and do a speed run, which will definitely appeal to some players! All in all, a really fun and different option. We didn’t quite make it through the quest (even on a second attempt), but we look forward to trying again and getting our hands on that egg! There is a great diversity of puzzles, allowing different types of players to shine, although there is minimal searching. Some challenges require cooperation and concentration, and many incorporate the incredible decor items in very satisfying ways. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK While it was often clear when something had released or happened, there were a few key moments where we missed things because we were not looking in the right direction (one important to solve a puzzle and another just an incredible cinematic kind of moment, that we were shown later). It would be great if there were a few more indicators of where to look at those times so they are not missed. Admittedly, this may have been less likely with more than two people, or if we had been able to cast a spell to grow eyes in the backs of our heads. Many of the puzzles ran smoothly and gave us a solid dose of medieval heroism as we opened the period locks or otherwise manipulated the decor, and all of the puzzle answers made sense. However, there were a couple of times where there seemed to be multiple interpretations that were equally viable options, and a bit more signposting could help to ensure folks head down the right path. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? "The Dragon’s Chamber" is perfect for any wannabe knights, wizards, or other folks who have just dreamed of treasure hunting in a wizard’s castle (which is pretty much all of us, really). The immersion is spectacular! This game is also a great opportunity to try a different, re-playable format and to stretch yourselves with the quest to steal the dragon’s egg. Some of the puzzles are quite challenging, but there are unlimited hints and some good tactile and dexterity components that kids would love. Coupled with the unforgettable decor, this is a game that could appeal to families, newbies, and enthusiasts alike! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Escape Room Concord NH has a dedicated parking area, a small lobby with some physical puzzles to toy with as you wait, and a photo booth that provides you with collage-format prints of your victory (or, in our case, defeat) photos! - Escape Room Concord NH - "The Lion's Den"
LOCATION: Concord, New Hampshire, USA Photo above is property of Escape Room Concord NH Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: The Lion's Den 📅 DATE PLAYED: November 4, 2023 🎬 GENRE: American History 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 PPL): 7/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-10 ppl (Recommend 4-8PPL) 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins 💰 PRICE: $45/PP, $150/Group ☎️ BOOKINGTYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY Your Great-Uncle Ollie recently passed away and left to you a letter, in which he reveals that he was part of the Order of the Lions - a secretive group with ties to the Founding Fathers. The members were a wealthy and powerful bunch, who had accumulated a large cache of treasure. Ollie has been keeping the treasure safely hidden by means of a series of devious puzzles incorporated into his study. He has utilized his knowledge of American History to make sure that only a true history buff such as yourself can access the treasury. Rogue members of the Order are hoping to steal the treasure, and you must find it to keep it safe. The treasury will self-destruct in an hour if you're unable to make your way through the sequence of puzzles. Put on your best National Treasure costume and start solving!! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE This classic room has a lot of puzzles –some that open locks, and many that utilize more modern technology. As a result, a lot of information is needed to work your way through it. However, the signposting regarding which information is needed to solve a given puzzle is clear, and it is also generally apparent when a puzzle can be solved. If you feel as though you have to guess, move on or look for more clues! This minimizes the confusion that sometimes occurs in more densely packed experiences. Given the volume of puzzles and information, this room lends itself well to larger groups. There are observational puzzles, tactile puzzles, logic puzzles, and word puzzles. This will give almost any type of puzzler a chance to shine! There is a lot of tech, and it all worked quite smoothly with the exception of one drawer that needed a bit of encouragement - fortunately, our attentive GM was on top of it!! The decor is consistent with the theme, accurately giving participants the feel of being in the study of someone who favors 18th and 19th century Americana. There was one device we'd never seen with which we were quite enamored! 🧩 MISSED THE MARK This room has varying levels of difficulty and hints are freely given. Be sure and talk through the difficulty options with your GM as some of the puzzles are a bit rote on easy mode (which we were given by default, being a party of two) and are more interesting when challenging. As with many escape rooms, there is minimal progressive narrative, but the objective is clear from the start. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This is a compact, densely packed room with minimal searching - great for smaller, seasoned groups who are ready to knock out a lot of puzzles, as well as large groups of people with varying skill sets and abilities. History fans in particular will appreciate the decor, but the clean puzzle design will make it appealing to anybody who is familiar with the all too common struggle of trying one solution on multiple locks. It could be too busy of a challenge for a small and inexperienced group, but Escape Room Concord has other rooms to try if you are new to the puzzling scene. And once you've gotten your feet wet (perhaps with Deep Space or The Library) you'll be ready to test your mettle against the many machinations of "The Lion's Den"!! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Escape Room Concord strives to create as many of the components of their games from scratch as possible, as well as to provide experiences that are adaptable for kids and adults of all skill levels. Their rooms have puzzles that can be adjusted to be simpler when smaller groups are tackling a room meant for many, as well as challenges that can be leveled up for more seasoned groups of escape artists. The lobby is cozy and fun, with one wall covered in layers of pictures of past escapees. A water station and bathroom are readily available. It's right off I-93 and has its own free parking lot. We were fortunate enough to interview the founders (a married couple) to learn more about their company. The husband has a law enforcement background and the wife has experience in art & design. Combined, they are able to create realistic challenges and puzzles based on their knowledge of the subjects. Quandary is located on the 2nd floor inside of a 150 year old brick building and has a lot of character. They opened to the public two years ago and currently offers 3 rooms (2 of the rooms are identical to each other - so 5 rooms total). We are scheduled to try their newest room "Operation: Gambit" which normally requires a minimum of 4 people to book. As soon as you walk inside the waiting area, you are automatically introduced to "their" world. The area is spacious w/ plenty of background material to support the room's storylines. Once ready, you enter a long eerie hallway w/ doors on each side leading to the rooms. The "Operation: Gambit" room is located at the end and has soon as you enter you are on a movie set. Because the room normally requires a minimum of 4 people, we didn't waste anytime. The room had a good mixture of technological puzzles, decoders, and unique placements of locks to open. The decor and design was quite impressive and we really enjoyed ourselves. *** We regret to inform this game is no longer available for booking but check out other games on their website*** (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) - Codeword Escape Room (Formerly "Quandary") - "Son of the Zodiac"
LOCATION: Wallingford, Connecticut, USA Photo above is property of Quandary Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Son of the Zodiac 📅 DATE PLAYED: September 1, 2019 🎬 GENRE: Thriller 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 7.5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: Up to 6 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: $25.00/ pp ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes Video above is property of Quandary This is our second time at Quandary Escape Room. Read our “Operation: Gambit” to know more about the location. Today, we are tackling one of my favorite room themes: serial killer mystery. I’m a huge CSI and Criminal Minds fan and I'm hoping all that TV show knowledge will come in handy finally. The room we are trying is called “Son of the Zodiac”. It was inspired by the true story of “The Zodiac Killer” in the late 60's and early 70's. Until this day, he was never identified and now Connecticut is experiencing a string of disappearances and it seems like a copycat is on the loose. The police have issued a $100,000 reward and we decided to try our luck with one of the prime suspects we were following. When he left the apartment, we bribed the landlord and got inside to investigate the place. Our friends are following him and giving us constant updates on his location. We needed to get out before he comes back! Our suggested ideal size for this room is 4 people for room "A". However there's a larger version of this room if you have more people and that would be room "B" with a bit more square footage and added puzzles. This room can fit a maximum number of 8 people. As we entered the dimly lit apartment room, there was a lot to be discovered. With the owner’s background, we expected this storyline to be as real as it could get from the mindset of the killer. The cover up of a normal tenant was done well in the room design and we enjoyed the latter “wow” moments. There was one clue which we didn’t really get the vocabulary terms but using process of elimination it was solvable. We really liked the puzzle design as it utilized all the skills an investigator would do in this situation. We searched, used deductive reasoning, and critical thinking. “Time is of the essence” was also very realistic to real life situations. You should definitely pace yourself throughout the game as we seemed to use more time in the latter part of time game. We escaped at the last second which gave us that ultimate rush and rejoice. Quandary Escape Room is our “go to” escape room to experience “crime related themed” escape rooms. We know we can play the room while feeling like we’re going through a real-life story because the owner (developer) has put their personal touch into it. Which is your favorite Quandary room? IAIS has an incredible museum exhibit which allows visitors to travel through time - displaying astounding artifacts while presenting information on prehistoric to contemporary Native Americans. They have a parking lot available right in front. To further their educational services, IAIS created "Wigwam Escape" - an escape room to challenge the ordinary museum experience. In continuing to preserve and educate the public about pre-contact natives, "Wigwam Escape" allows you to do so though an interactive, stimulating and captivating experience. We were fortunate enough to meet with the program coordinator and the room designer. The level of creativity that was implemented into the storyline, decor, and the puzzle designs really shows the level of passion IAIS and the staff have for their culture. From the customer service provided when you arrive to the lobby area, the staff is extremely kind and professional. The room itself had a fair amount of technology incorporated and the decor provided a realistic, immersive experience. The only concern that "Wigwam Escape" has is that some of the puzzle designs require bending down which could be physically challenging for some people. Other than that, we recommend checking out IAIS and Wigwam Escape for an entertaining AND educational experience! Today, we are visiting the West Hartford, CT location to escape one of the three rooms that they offer - "Starry Night". They have street parking and a parking lot available right in front of the entrance. We were fortunate enough to meet w/ the Director of Operations so that we could learn more about the company. In regards to this location, they are positioned in a great area. Attached to the lobby of their CT location is their restaurant/ bar - "Deadbolt Restaurant". This is a great place to stop by before or after your game to discuss your expectations and experience! The decor of the lobby and waiting area has a really unique vintage feel. They have a really cool gadget called "PNEUMAN" which allows you write down and enter any question into a capsule that will shoot to the back and return w/ a response. The staff was extremely friendly and professional. As we entered into the "Starry Night" room, we were instantly teleported to London. The decor definitely went w/ the storyline. The puzzle designs could've been a little bit more linear. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves and were able to escape with two people with some time to spare! There's no elevator and you will have to climb two flights of stairs. The lobby area is quite spacious and they also have a party room where they can host events with food and drinks. We were joined by a lovely couple and the four of us were able to move around comfortably in this room. This is probably the largest escape room in terms of size that we've done up until now. The beginning puzzles were a bit more challenging but the ending seemed to die down a bit. The puzzles were quite linear so you'll have to solve most of them together before moving forward onto the next. The decor of the room was meant to be a little bit horrific, but even with a few props, it kinda lacked in design. The bright lights made it easier to play, but maybe for the theme, they should have added some "scary" light effects and sounds. Overall, it was a very fun room and we loved their puzzles. It's about time!! We have been patiently waiting to play trap't Escape Room Adventures' infamous room - "Time Chasers: Race for the Cure"! For this room, you need 4 or more players in order to complete your mission. We were lucky enough to be invited to tag along with some escape room owners that we recently met who also haven't tried the "Time Chasers" yet. We had a group total of 8 players and we all worked well as a team. The "Time Chasers: Race for the Cure" room has received rave reviews from other websites and believe me, it lives up to the hype! As soon as you step foot inside the room you are fully engaged in a time traveling storyline. The only recommendation that we would suggest is if the design of the doorway set the tone for the storyline right from the beginning (like a time warp tunnel or something). Other than that, the room was incredible from beginning to end. Since our last visit to trap't Escape Room Adventures, a lot has changed in less than a year. We were fortunate enough to meet with the owner & developer of the company to learn more about the company. Recently, they've partnered with Ubisoft Escape Games to launch their VR Escape Rooms. All the rooms are handicap accessible. The waiting area is quite spacious and the decor really compliments the "Mystified" theme. The game masters are also in costume & character as they reveal the backstory prior to entering the room. The hint system is quite unique in this escape location as the game master physically walks into the room to give you a clue. So be sure to watch your time closely as there could be a bit of a delay. We were joined by two other couples for this adventure and the six of us happily escaped with minutes to spare. There were a few "Gen 1" tech puzzles in the room and some basic ones combined. You can spread out and tackle different puzzles with your group at the same time. We think four people or more should be plenty for this room. We felt that we've entered a stormy night as soon as we entered into the room. The lighting and sound collaborated really well with the design. It's a rather dark room, so you'll have to get use to working mainly with flashlights. We were rather pleased to find that even though some hints were hard to hear, they were also given in another way just in case. Mainly because we've encountered situations where clues and hints were unclear due to the theme of the room. It could get rather frustrating for players and waste your time. There was an answer to a clue which we figured out before solving the actual puzzle which was great but not sure if that was a loophole in the game. We did get tied up on one of the problems and the game master physically had to come into the room to help us solve that. Sometimes we feel that it takes away from the play when that happens since it feels like cheating when it isn't solved entirely by your team. Regardless of the minor aspects, we had a lot of fun in this room and would definitely come back again for their future ones! The "Rendezvous With The Renaissance" in comparison to the other two rooms was probably the least immersive in terms of interaction. We felt that the beginning of the room was better designed than the end. The end felt a bit weak and disconnected from the storyline. There were a bit more red herrings in this room that you have to overlook, but it was still minimal compared to some of the other rooms we've seen. We used one clue in this game and was able to escape with three people and 7 minutes to spare. This is one of their bigger rooms in terms of space, but definitely one of the easier rooms in terms of puzzles. Initially, the design of the room didn't really correlate with the story, but the puzzle aspect was fun so we overlooked that. Towards the middle, the story did catch on with the theme. If you were to choose one of the three that we've attempted, we'd recommend the "Keeper of the Light" room for a more immersive experience. Previously, we’ve played all three of their games so far: "The Paradox", "Keeper of The Light", and "Rendezvous with The Renaissance". Be sure to read our reviews to find out more about this escape location. They have recently retired the “Rendezvous with The Renaissance” room and replaced it with their new game which we’re playing today: “The Curtain Call” The storyline for “The Curtain Call” had a bit of “Moulin Rouge” inspiration behind it. It seems like Belle, the cabaret’s leading lady at La Rouge Mystere is missing. There are already accidents happening backstage, and we were sent here to solve this mystery and hopefully find her before the curtain call. Today, it’s just the two of us giving this brand-new game a stab. As we entered the room, the set design took us back to what feels like the waiting area behind the scenes to a cabaret show. I would say our “mistake” here was that we didn’t pull hard enough on some of the furnishings as most of the time we’re very careful and respectful of the props in the room. But this caused us a good amount of time as we literally just stood there and pondered for a long time before we used a clue to just to let us know to “pull the furniture harder”. There was one particular puzzle in there that also confused us a bit with the game flow since it could also be utilized again later. Perhaps if that can be fixed somehow, it would make the game flow a lot smoother. There were definitely less locks in this escape game versus tech, but it did make sense whenever a lock appeared. We were stuck on one puzzle at the end mainly because we were not good “searchers” and did not make it out in time. The game master later told us that this piece of the puzzle was intentionally made more difficult to visualize. You really need to pay attention to all details in this room. The props and the storyline were solid in this room as it really made it feel like you were going through a real-life backstage setting. We were amused by the ending as well and always appreciate an escape room that would go the extra mile to show a conclusion rather than just let you out with a key. We appreciate Mystified-Escape Room Adventures’ creative themed rooms as they are always very unique and the best part is, they were all built in-house by a talented female owner. It’s always a different adventure every time at Mystified-Escape Room Adventures and we hope to return soon! - Project Panic Escape Rooms Austin - "Cabin Fever"
LOCATION: Austin, Texas, USA Photo above has been provided by Project Panic 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Cabin Fever 📅 DATE PLAYED: August 9, 2019 🎬 GENRE: Mystery 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 7.5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: Up To 12PPL 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins 💰 PRICE: $30/PP ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Public 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: No We arrived at Project Panic Escape Rooms Austin which is the sister company of San Antonio Panic Room. Read our review of their "Prison Break" room to find out more about this location. Currently they have another location in Dallas. There is plenty of street parking as they are a bit more on the outskirts of Austin. This location is fairly new and you can tell from their brand spankingly clean lobby. They are still inputting more games here but currently they have three up-and-running: “End of the Lines”, “The Gallery” and “Cabin Fever”. Today, we are attempting their largest room which fits a max of 12 people with just the two of us – “Cabin Fever”. The storyline is that we are stuck in a fierce blizzard and we have to take shelter in a nearby cabin. But the old structure will probably not hold for much longer in this storm so we must find a way to call out for rescue. We did encounter a good amount of tech issues while playing this game which hindered some of our gameplay. We actually didn’t get out with us working on the last puzzle, but we believe we could have without these tech issues involved as it made the game very confusing. The review and difficulty level will be based on us overlooking these issues as if we played a fully functional and operational game. As we entered the cabin, we felt immersed right away with the set design. We were very amazed by the quality used on the wood, props, and especially the sound (we heard the wind was blowing the leaves outside and an actual storm brewing out there). The room is very spacious, and a big group would have a lot of fun in here spreading out and searching for clues. A few puzzles were linear but there were some moments different groups can solve things simultaneously. A puzzle at the end didn’t corollate with what was hinted on the answers which made it somewhat confusing for us and that one took some time. One of the mechanisms that we've encountered in the past at other locations was extremely hard to operate in this room. We think it may need to be repaired or replaced due to wear and tear. This also caused a lot of time for us even though we already had the right answer to enter. We really enjoyed the way some spaces were used in the set design. If the aforementioned puzzle and mechanism was adjusted, this room would've been really fun to experience. We can’t wait to return and give their new room a “spin” (*hint on the new room theme*) as we’ve never heard of this theme before! (If you do decide to try this room, please remember to let them know that "ESCAPETHEROOMers" sent you!) ** We don't want to go into detail and ruin any surprises for you, but you want more info like if the room is a multi-room or what other additional tips we can provide to you, feel free to email us. - Room With a Clue - "The Slasher"
LOCATION: Watertown, Connecticut, USA Photo above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: The Slasher 📅 DATE PLAYED: September 13, 2019 🎬 GENRE: Thriller 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 6/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: Up to 8 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: $27.00/ pp ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers It’s by fate that we were destined to come try Room With A Clue. We met the owner at another escape room location as they were about to enter their game. They reached out to us after and here we are! Room With A Clue is located in a historic building with loft-like ceilings. There was plenty of parking outside. The building already had a preset ambience for horror but by popular demand the owner has made these rooms family friendly and not scary at all. We were attempting two back to back rooms here starting with "The Slasher". Despite the name “The Slasher”, this first room had nothing to do with murder mystery. “The Slasher” was merely a prisoner who’s been sentenced and has been planning to escape for a long time. He finally successfully locked us in the warden's office and we needed to get out before the poison gas consumed us. The room was quite spacious, and we would recommend a team of 3-4 people. As we entered the office of the warden, we were cuffed. Our first mission was to free ourselves. This was the first time we’ve encountered a room where there was more than one way to solve a puzzle (in this case, an easier way and a harder way). I believe we chose the harder way throughout the game. Later on, the owner said most of the experienced player choose to play the harder way where most of the new players actually saw shortcuts right away. It was a very interesting concept but also rather confusing for us since at times we would find clues or keys which we’ve used for another puzzle already but found another one only to have no use for them. The puzzle designs felt a little out of context to the storyline. At times we would ask ourselves if this was a real situation of us trying to escape this office, would we count objects? If the game flow could clean up a bit with perhaps just one puzzle per key (maybe have two versions of the game: easy or hard) and puzzles to be more relatable to the storyline, this could be a much-improved room. We enjoyed the storyline as it’s always fun to capture an escaped fugitive! Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers * UPDATE - We regret to inform that "Room With A. Clue" has closed.
