He has created a way to contain them by locating specific personal objects that they were connected with. Now you and your friends can come visit the Ghost Collector's séance room and view the ghosts that he's collected in person. There is a catch! In order to see them, you must temporarily release them from their containment chamber and within 60 minutes locate their personal objects and perform a ritual to return them or else they will be permanently free to roam the city streets again! Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The storyline is so unique and creative that it fits perfect within this escape room. The objective(s) all make sense and allows the game to be played organically throughout the experience. Being that it's ghosts in a New York setting, it reminds me of "GhostBusters" and that already sets the bar pretty high and Escape Virtuality did not disappoint! Since we are dealing with ghosts in an escape room, there has to be a level of quality when it comes to special effects and we were definitely pleased with what we saw. Without giving away too much, let's just say the usage of holograms and lighting was incredible! Set design is another important aspect that is heavily regarded when dealing with the supernatural. When we first stepped inside the séance room, we immediately felt like we were in one of those scenes where a group of people think it's a game, but it's really not and they're hesitant and curious to proceed at the same time. The decor and quality really made us feel like we entered a ghost museum. The puzzles were all fascinating and really fit well with the storyline. Having to search & solve objects in order to obtain the personal objects for each ghost was cleverly implemented. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One thing that we've always appreciated, is the added bonus/ obstacle when entering whether it's a puzzle or decor or both. For example, if we're entering the séance room of a Ghost Collector, it would be cool to have a hidden door. Maybe a mirror or bookcase hiding the entry door? Mainly because of the danger that is contained inside. It's hard to suggest what could've been better because we understand that most of the props are meant to have an "antique-ish" look to them. There was a couple of items that either required a little more force or a lighter touch. So if needed, maybe a little upkeep on certain props? 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? If you love supernatural and haunting experiences, then you will love the "Ghost Collector"! There are no live actors in this room, but the eeriness of the set design will definitely give you the chills. Like I mentioned earlier, this room had a close resemblance to "Ghost Busters" and I think from that, Escape Virtuality managed to further the experience with an added incentive! We love that this escape room’s concept is built behind a larger storyline. As we are travel through time to visit the 4-themed escape rooms, we can discover a final secret which will be revealed at the end. Feel free to read our reviews on “The Egyptian Tomb" and "The Ultimate Heist” rooms to get more details on Clue Chase. Today we came to try “The Lost Spy” which is set in the year 1963. As always, our game master is very welcoming and in character as he came to greet us at the door. Our mission today as a CIA agent is to find out why one of the agents is missing. As the story unveiled and clues pointed to a vast amount of conspiracies, we discovered that we needed to disarm a ticking time bomb that’s about to detonate and destroy our country! The décor of the room felt very office-like as they are trying to recreate the feeling of the CIA headquarter in VA. The room is quite spacious and the clues were clearly coordinated to the puzzles that needed to be solved. There’s a lot to do in there but this room is not linear (we notice that in their other games as well). This is great for team building if you have a large group as you can divide and conquer. There is some reading involved that would need to be analyzed in this room so if you are not a reader, bring someone that is! Nothing would require any outside knowledge, but you would be at a slight advantage if you know how to play this particular board game. One of the pieces did feel a little worn in the coloring which wasn’t a big issue since we used process of elimination but it would've been great if they can provide some upkeep on the puzzle pieces to avoid any confusion. Between the two of us, we couldn’t complete the room in time mainly because we're not too familiar with failing to escape a room based on trying a code too many times. Normally, you’ll probably just get locked out as a penalty or something. We had about 10 minutes left when we made a final attempt, but the game actually stopped when the code was entered incorrectly. So, I would leave a good amount of time, patience, and precision for the ending. The storyline was great as it made sense as it developed and why the agent went missing which then also lead to the ending aspect. Clue Chase has always been one of our favorite locations in the city. If you had to pick a game to play, I would say “The Ultimate Heist” is a MUST try there. We can’t wait to complete the “Alien Encounter” room so that we can be sent on the secret mission and infiltrate the Fox’s secret organization! We were so impressed w/ our experience in "The Egyptian Tomb", we decided book "The Ultimate Heist" room for Cici's birthday. We had a huge group of eight people and the size of the room was definitely accommodating. If you are looking for any kind of team building, this room would be perfect. The goal here is to steal $100 million dollars worth of merchandise from a thief and of course, escape with it. There are a lot of mini puzzles in the room where each person or a small group can tackle on together. The more puzzles you solve, the more prizes you can escape the room with. We had 8 people and escaped with about $35 million dollars worth! The puzzles were well-thought out and pretty linear in terms of the clues that were provided so that you can easily associate them with each other. Make sure you give yourself ample time to check-in with security and have your photo ID ready or else you will not be able to enter. The waiting area is quite comfortable as there's some puzzles for you to play with while waiting for your game master to start the game. The game masters are also playing their roles quite well as they take you into a time travel warp. You'll get debriefed with a background story in the waiting area on their TV. "The Egyptian Tomb" room was very immersive. The props felt like it was from a theatrical set and you are actually trapped in a tomb. We only had three people but was lucky enough to get a private room to ourselves. However, we didn't have enough time to finish the puzzles, as we were definitely short-handed. My feeling is that you will probably need a minimum of 4 people to successfully escape. This is the first escape room that we've tried with a lot of high tech equipment involved and it was a real eye-opener for us. This is also the first room where we didn't have to use too many traditional locks. So if you are person that's in love with the feeling of opening locks, this might not be for you. Also, for every room you try, Clue Chase will give you a "key" piece to a puzzle which you can assemble once you solve all four of their rooms. This will allow you to receive the last "prize". It's a clever way to keep you coming back for more. We had our two sisters with us this time and were joined by three lovely escape room enthusiasts. Escape Games LI have 3 different locations with 9 different themed rooms. This is the largest Long Island escape company we’ve ever been to. Today, we visited their Portion Rd, Ronkonkoma location and there was plenty of parking in their shopping complex. As we entered, there was a small but comfortable waiting area with different puzzles you can attempt to solve while waiting for other players to arrive. There were a few ways you can gain a clue while waiting: (1) Like their social media page, (2) Solve the sequence on the wall, and (3) Unlock a directional lock. “Legends of a Hidden Temple” was a game designed in-house by Escape Game LI. The story took us to an ancient dig site and our archeologist team must fight through quicksand, wall of despair, and crawl through a grotto in hopes to be able to escape this hidden temple with treasures in hand. It was always great to see authentic props used in a room. Right when we entered the room, we stepped into the sand dunes so our suggestion is to wear shoes you wouldn’t mind getting sand into. Our recommended size for this room is 4-6 people.  Since the website said that the room could be booked with 2 people, we were wondering how one of the puzzles could be done as we actually needed a team of 4 to complete it. We also felt that this particular puzzle design didn't really fit well with the rest of the room decor as it didn’t belong in a temple setting. A simple aesthetics change (maybe Mayan symbol looking buttons?) would make this room look really amazing with the ambience. Some sound effects would also contribute to the immersive feel of the room. The other suggestion we had would be to cover up the entrances for each area to have more of a temple feel versus doors with key locks. The keys can perhaps also change into a more “temple inspired” looks. As we progressed into the next challenge area, the puzzles were spread out, so a large group can easily divide and conquer. We liked how spacious the area was and it was great to still have the puzzle flow even though everyone was separated. Eventually, we all came together in the end to put all the pieces together. Certain puzzles would require teammates to participate, but not in the same space which is always fun. Good memory would help in this room but it's not required. The added crawl space (since it was mentioned on their website description, we don’t consider this as a spoiler) was probably the longest we’ve experienced, and we love those aspects in a game since it made us feel like real adventurers. However, all the players would need to go through this so if there is some sort of knee issues, we suggest letting the game master know at the beginning and they can suggest another room or perhaps an alternative meeting point for the player with crawling issues. If the ambiance of the crawl space could be enhanced with better décor or lighting, it could also improve the immersive feel. Overall, we really enjoyed this room and got out with no hints used and plenty of time. We think this is a great room for team building. The game flow was great and most importantly it was a lot of fun! We can’t wait to return to Escape Game LI soon to bring you more exclusive content on their other games! This is the key piece of item they needed to win the war. We snuck into the castle but there were many obstacles along the way… 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE We liked how the set design does not reveal an entire room right away. It was nice to feel like we were walking down hallways inside of a castle. Puzzles were a lot of fun and used all props associated with the medieval times. Reading materials were not extensive and easy to follow. The set design got better and better as the story developed. The game master for our game was very attentive. At the beginning, we were given the option to either take a walkie talkie or have the game master whisper clues to us through a small window on the door. We chose the latter just incase of walkie talkie issues and also to continue the experience. Before we even waved for a hint, she was already prepared to help. Her hints was also clear but not revealing. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK This room would step up a level if the ceiling and flooring could be covered into more of a castle feel. If lighting could also be dimmed a bit or use the torch lights, it’ll enhance the ambience. Since this game does allow two person bookings, one puzzle could be hard to detect if we had completed or not without a sound alert. It would be great if some sort of “hint” could be added or else the players wouldn’t know if they are on the right track or not. Music would also help add some mood to the room. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Escape Game Long Island allow their game masters to put their creativity and imaginations into their game designs. This is a great idea since game masters interact with the players the most. The game masters know what players like and what would be confusing to them and this game heavily used puzzle designs from them. We loved the game flow and we think you guys will enjoy it too! All of a sudden, the sirens went off and the nurse has informed us that the patients in maximum security got out! She locked us in the doctor’s office for safety, but we needed to find another way out before the patients find the spare keys to get in! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE There was a clever use of a prop which we’ve recently seen in Budapest as well, but we enjoyed the “transport”. Some “horror” props were well designed. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK We didn’t enjoy the puzzle designs in this room. Answers were too revealing and did not tie closely with the hints. At times we had to ask for a hint to confirm if that’s going to be the actual answer since it’s so obvious. Props need to be updated in the room. Some were worn out and one did not work. One prop needs a better “placement hint” as we basically used trial and error based on our previous escape room knowledge but not sure how other players would know to do that other than just trying it everywhere. We didn’t know how to proceed with one of the puzzles as the clue made us unable to move forward. That clue needs to be rewritten for clarification. There wasn't really any storyline. We basically just saw things that needed a code and found it and opened it and moved on. We didn’t even know at the end that we already solved the last puzzle and won the game. There was a same prop that was used with the exact same concept as one of their other games. If players play all of their games, it would be too revealing. We suggest changing that puzzle. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? "Escape Game Long Island" recently just acquired this location "PadLOCKED INc." and if you go to their original location and this one, you’ll definitely feel a difference in the set design and puzzles. Escape Game Long Island are going to slowly redesign all of their games. Including this location, "Escape Game Long Island" has a total of 9 games. We’ve played 4 of them and this is the weakest one out of them. We hope they revamp this game as we don’t want it to represent how puzzles are designed in an escape room and how “easy” they are even if its for beginners. 🔎 HINT Any of them different? While searching around, you discover that you are not the only ones on this island... Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Given the amount of space the creator had to work with, we were surprised by the set design which even had a plane wreckage implemented into the room. There were a lot of fun ways that props were used to create puzzles that really reminded us of the island vibe. There was a good amount of puzzles in this game that gave each of us a chance to work on something simultaneously. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The room and the storyline felt reversed. If we had started in the wreckage and then ventured into the other room and discovered the secrets this island was hiding, it would've had more of a twist. Currently, the ending didn't have the "urgency" the storyline wanted us to have which was to escape the island. Although this is a new room, some items in the room need some maintaining. One puzzle was hard to visualize due to some fainted coloring and one item had a loose end so didn't hold up well. The boogie board tablet provided in the room seem to be out of place within the story. It would be great if this could be given to the players in a backpack instead so it seems like they bought in their own rescue mission for "tools" to help them escape the island. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? "Castaway" is a family friendly game for beginners. The puzzles weren't too difficult and the island vibe made the game really fun. Some clues were really obvious, so definitely don't over think when playing this game. There's not much tech in the room but it does fit the theme as we're on an island after all. In the holding cell, we overheard the Sheriff talking about a recent wagon heist that got away with a lot of gold and treasures. We had to escape from the cell and check out the local saloon in town as we speculate the criminals hid their stolen goods there. We needed to find the treasure before they get back in town! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The concept of the story was well matched with the set design. From the metal bars in the jail cell to the saloon decors, it felt like we were truly there. Some physical puzzles were very entertaining in this room. We had to think about the actual situation we were in and what we can use in order to solve the puzzle. We liked how the ending puzzle was incorporated into the story line and not just a simple “lock and key” exit. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There was decor that we found that looked like it’s part of a puzzle, but we didn’t use it at all. Perhaps we did not go through the conventional way and solve it by trial and error. But if it was a hint to our lock then it would make sense. If it's not, it would probably be best to remove them since they added confusion. Few props need to be updated. There was a long delay with one of them and the other one did not work even though we completed with the right action. Perhaps there could be a hint paper that’s written into the storyline to instruct people on how to operate it if it’s sensitive to a certain position. Some camera angles may had been difficult for the game master to see in the room perhaps? We asked for a hint for the current puzzle only to be redirected to ones we’ve completed a long time ago. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? "Escape Game Long Island" recently just acquired this location "PadLOCKED INc." This game was redesigned by them after the acquisition.  We did sense more of "Escape Game Long Island" kind of quality in the set design and puzzle element versus the original "PadLOCKED INc." room we’ve played. Although some props still needed to be repaired in order for the room to work smoothly, this was still a really fun game with various interactive puzzles. The storyline for "Montauk Project" was truly exceptional. It was creative yet original. It has the cinematic quality you would expect from a J.J. Abrams film. "Montauk Project" spared no expense when it comes to making the set design top notch. From the stones on the floor to the rusty looking shed, everything looked eerie yet inviting for the brave and curious ESCAPETHEROOMers team. We walked down the cobblestone path until we were greeted by an actual house. But it wasn't just what you were able to see, it was also what you were able to hear. The entire experience literally blurred reality for us. There was ambient sounds, changes in temperature, and special effects that truly won our hearts over for every second of this experience. The puzzle were not the typical ones you would see in escape rooms as many actually involved using common sense. What would you do with a piece of wood? Where should it go? Our minds were constantly pushed to act like we're characters in the actual story. The mixture of logic, memory, and physical puzzles went perfectly with the storytelling. Our favorite moments were in the latter part of the game. We don't want to give any spoilers but let's just say you'll get your cinematic finish and the production value was Disney quality. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK This was a solid game. One small suggestion we would make is to make the audio and wording for one of the puzzles a bit more clear as we had to repeat it several times in order to understand what it was trying to give as the clue. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? You should definitely go play this room if you're ever in NY. And if you enjoy films like "10 Cloverfield Lane" or "Stranger Things", you would love it even more. From the moment we entered "Montauk Project", nothing else in the outside world mattered. We were in Camp Hero State Park. From figuring out how to get into the shed to the house to things we can't tell you about, there were many "wow" moments waiting to be discovered. It is too late though, if her ghost is around then it is up to you to quiet the other spirits lingering in the theater by getting them ready for their phantom show in time. Starting in the girls dressing room, everything feels as if the human players performing tomorrow have all been set up and are ready to go until all the mysterious happenings of the spirits in the venue start to cause havoc. Reveals in this room are ingenious and come from unexpected places. Getting to the stage involves fun puzzles that work thematically and build the actions in the story world. Expect to use each and every sense in this room. Myss Tic did a wonderful job at incorporating each main sense in ways that one might not have seen before. Smell, sight, hearing, and touch are just some of the many feelings used in the room to truly immerse the group. The puzzles flow into each other rather seamlessly. It was clued very well going from room to room and puzzle to puzzle. Each piece inside "Ghost Light" provided an adventure that felt more like an interactive experience rather than an escape room at some points. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK After much consideration, no comments are needed in this section. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? After playing many escape rooms, it is always a wonderful sensation to find a theme that hasn’t quite been done or replicated previously and "Ghost Light" , I am happy to say, is a unique and beautiful game that fits well in the theatrically heavy city of New York. The game has supernatural elements but at no point does it ever consider itself to be a horror game. It seeks to tell a tale of mysticism and adventure through its puzzles and set design. All of the locked objects are locked with era-appropriate latches and the game uses a great integration of technology to control items in the room that the spirits will manipulate. The pebble street, wooden fruit stand, and flaming torches assisted with the scenography. There were a few instances where basic props were utilized in puzzles but were done in very creative ways. This room was a perfect example of not needing high tech or expensive budget in order to make a room fun. Although the theme might sound like there's a lot of reading, it was quite the opposite. We learned about history through the process of solving puzzles. The creator took the time to think about what made sense during the 1100s and it really shows in the props that were used in this room. There were nothing that felt out of the place. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One part of the room felt like it could be utilized more. There was a clue that we never got to use and ended up solving the puzzle without it. It caused confusion for us later on. I'm not sure if it was necessary. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? I love rooms that could incorporate educational content into the game without feeling like we were in school. The creator did a great job of recreating this important moment in history and gave the players the opportunity to learn about it through a fun experience. This room was totally revamped so if you've played this game before, definitely come and replay it again! From a masterfully crafted storyline to a wide range of puzzles to solve all while guided by one of the Order's Proctors (your game master), this experience is in a class of its own. Not to mention, this experience is replay-able! From the minute you walk into the "waiting area", the act has already begun. You'll be greeted by a cast member(s) that will "transport" you into the past. The "rift in time" can literally be seen from everywhere. The more you interact and role-play with the cast members, the more immersed you'll feel. The set design was breathtaking. From the lighting that creates an eerie but stage-like ambience to the surround sound system to the props in the room, everything was meticulously designed for a high quality show... and that is exactly what it is. It's a show that engulfs you and eventually recruits you to become part of the cast. During the show, you'll experience multiple scenes. As you complete the puzzles within each scene, a new space (due to your choices) will open up. The actor did a magnificent job in guiding us, but also gave us space to play out our own chapter. I love that the purpose of the actor is not to create jump-scares, but to aid us in our adventure. Because you are choosing your own path, your entire experience will be specific to the direction that you've opted for. Therefore, you will encounter different rooms, proctors, and most importantly... puzzle challenges! The path that we chose had a lot of physical puzzles which were definitely Brandon's forte, but having two people definitely helped in many cases. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One or two of the puzzles could be quite difficult as it's more skill-based rather than logic. You could potentially get stuck and not complete the room in time and there's no way to bypass them (but we did complete the game with 10 mins or so left as two people so it's definitely doable!). 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? From the creators that brought you "I Survived The Room" in NYC, comes this new immersive theatre experience called "HERESY: 1897", the 1st Chapter from "The Book of Three Keys" which centers around an alchemist named Edmond Cavanaugh. Doors of Divergence has created a rift in the timeline that immerses you right into the story to write your own path. One of the biggest challenges in the industry is creating an immersive experience that can also be appealing to escape room enthusiasts. One of the ingenious designs of this game is that at the end, you'll actually receive items that will help you relive what you've been through. You can record it in an online profile. This way you'll know what you've missed and what path you could have taken. I promise you, you'll want to return to check out all the "what ifs" and replay the story again. If not, they have two more chapters in the works - "Madness: 1917" and "Causality: 1971" and the start of those chapters will all depend on your choices from the first game. How cool is that? We see Doors of Divergence as a new gateway to bridge the gap between immersive theaters and escape rooms and having both types of enthusiasts all under one roof. There are a lot of similarities that we mentioned in that review that was beautifully orchestrated in this experience as well. The set design was quite different than the first chapter. This time our team of 4 was evenly divided into two cells. The discoloration of the wall paint, creepy dollhouse, electric shock chair, and flicking lights perfectly portrayed the eeriness and mysteriousness of Hollow Grove Sanitarium. As we watched each chapter unfold through the projector, it was as if we were transported into a black & white film. There was definitely a sense of loss in reality. The live actors were excellent. I can sense the insanity from the doctor and the fear in the nurse's eyes throughout the performance. I still get goosebumps just thinking about it. The puzzles concentrated more on collaborative efforts this time rather than individual solving. We actually enjoyed these a little more than the first experience. It also made perfect sense with the theme. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK We absolutely Loved everything about this experience. I can't think of anything that I would change at all. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Doors of Divergence is not just trying to create another escape room or immersive theater experience. They are makers of ART. Once again they've used their creative paintbrush and perfectly depicted a scene from the 1900s. Other than the surface game experience, there are many in-depth missions and stories that you can unveil if you come back and replay the game again. You will experience a brand new side of the story and puzzles. This is the beauty and uniqueness of their creation. If you've played "Heresy: 1897" before, make sure to add your ending code when booking "Madness: 1917" should you wish to continue your story. "Madness: 1917" can be played without playing "Heresy: 1897" first, but we strongly recommend playing them in order. Big applause for the team at Doors of Divergence. Another job well done! Today you learned that there might be a cure, but you’ll have to go through the forest filled with the undead. Can you get there safely to save the others? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The game started off by dividing our team into two cells. The cooperative puzzles were great for teamwork. The eerie vibe and a couple of jump scares were present throughout the game. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK We were unsure if the GM could hear or see us in the first room but we were stuck on of one the cooperative puzzles for a long time. She finally just gave us the solution. We later found out it was because we both received the same clue. There was an “intercom system” that could have been an interesting prop if it was actually implemented into the game. There could also be a few more cooperative puzzles that could be incorporated once the “intercom system” was "open". This game might be difficult for people who are short (we waited for a long time but finally got the confirmation that we could stand on a certain prop in the room). The room was also quite dark (especially at the beginning) and no flashlight was provided. We suggest at least giving the players a “zombie survival kit”. One of the puzzles was a cool physical puzzle but the prop was quite difficult to maneuver and worn out. The GM said sometimes they actually have to go into the room to solve this issue which would take the players out of the immersion. The ending seems to be missing. We didn’t notice we had already completed the game until the GM came into the room. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? The Panic Room - Niagara, NY location was bought by The Panic Room UK during the pandemic. We didn't feel that this was the true representation of The Panic Room’s brand. This room was quite basic with some answers given to the players in plain bold letters. The props also needed a facelift. I’m not sure if it was the TV system or the GM, but we definitely felt a lack of attention during the game.
