We gave one of their 15 minute rooms a whirl since we've never done those before. We thought we were going to be really pressed for time since we usually feel that even in 60 minute rooms. The one we chose to do was the "Game Night Gone Wrong" game which the main puzzle was focused on crossword puzzle and good thing we do that very often in our daily routines, we were able to get out with 7.5 minutes left. Although we feel that it was quite easy but I'm sure that's also because we've done way too many at this point to be able to "shortcut" through a good amount of puzzles. We can see that this could be really fun for kids to attempt and figure out and once they like this, they may want to give the 60 minute ones a try. Get your kids here to work their brains! We had tried a few other locations near here as we found that this seems to be the prime location for escape rooms since it captures the market for NY, NJ and PA! As we arrived, we noticed that they are a stand-alone building on the corner of the street. There’s a large parking lot right in the front the facility. The NJ Transit bus stops right in the front. Our first impression for the lobby felt like we have just entered into a movie theater. The décor almost made me want to buy a large bag of popcorn. The lobby was very spacious and as you waited for your escape room game to start, you can browse their merchandise. Currently, Venture Escape has 3 rooms to choose from and today we are trying their oldest room “Galahad”. This is the only room that was outsourced for the build (by Evilutions). The other 2 rooms: “The Big Score” & “Midnight City” all had a touch of the owner’s creativity and were built in-house.  “Galahad” was designed for up to 10 players, but who are we if we didn’t tackle their hardest room with just two people (by the way we failed with two more puzzles remaining)? Boasted with confidence, we were eager to begin the game. The game master informed us that today we must accompany Galahad and earn a place at the round table among the knights of legend. We must find the source for immortality... the fabled Holy Grail. As we were led to the front of the escape room door (that seemed to have been built in the medieval ages), we immediately knew that this was going to be an immersive experience. Readers, do you feel like it’s important for the room design to start incorporating the story line right from the start (i.e. the door you enter?). We feel that it is quite important as it brings more excitement and curiosity even before you enter. This is one of those rooms that did not disappoint on the first impression. As soon as we entered, we felt transported into a room inside of a castle! A lot of the props that was used felt like movie set quality and we actually had to figure out how to use it. There’s one particular prop/puzzle piece that was very “magical”. Some props even gave us an illusion effect. There’s a lot to do in this room so be aware of your time. It is a very challenging room for two people as some puzzles really needed teamwork or at least it would've made it much easier. We did find the puzzles in the room to be linear and certain puzzles did require another puzzle to be completed in order to move on. Don’t be shy on hints if you need to use one! If you like movies such as the "Gladiator" or "Game of Thrones", we suggest you give this room a try. Whether you get to be crowned a knight or not at the end, the experience will make you feel like you’ve played a part in a movie. We can’t wait to try Venture Escape's other rooms as we would love to see the owner’s own creativity in comparison to this room. It seems that the guests that are checking in... never check out! Are you able to find out what's going on and uncover the secrets of the Elm Suite inside "Lady T's Dead & Breakfast"? Above Video is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The fact that this escape room situates inside a retail shop that sells haunted dolls and horror related props already set the tone for what's to come in the escape room before we even enter The co-creator of the escape room actually investigates paranormal activity as his real job so he definitely added some of his own takes on what a creepy narrative should be right from the beginning. The entire experience delivers an eerie ambience from beginning to end. After you check-in (debriefed), you are escorted into the waiting area and the game begins... The backstory leaves you questioning how much of what you're about to witness is based off of true facts. The conviction in the storytelling begins to play with your mind. Because the space is smaller than most other escape rooms, the set design was cleverly utilized. The lighting and sound easily captured some jump scare moments from us (no worries, there's no live actors). 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One of the puzzles in the game didn't go with the storyline. We are not sure why those props and lock was used as it took away from the eerie vibe. It was also a fairly tricky lock that we haven't seen elsewhere before that could be quite difficult to operate in dim lighting. The puzzle itself also took a bit of a logic leap. There are various moments when you'll experience some strobe lighting with dim lighting so just make sure you are comfortable with that before booking your game There was one cool usage of a tech that we've seen one other company use in a paranormal room before. However the answer reveal was not so clear and this is also one of the reason why we were not able to escape the room (although the spirits probably did their part too especially when they were trying to prove the accuracy of their prediction). 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? If you're a fan of "Ghost Hunters" or curious about paranormal activity, then take a visit to "Lady T's Dead & Breakfast"! There's a good amount of details that players needed to spot in dim lighting so make sure to bring a teammate with good eyesight! There's a small lobby waiting area with simple decor. This is our first "surprise" room with live actors in it. We didn't anticipate it so it was an even bigger surprise. The set design was very immersive as you felt you entered the dungeon of a vampire's lair right away. With that said, you'll probably be anticipating a dimmer light setting throughout the whole game. The props that were used were all very well made, considering this is a local business and they build everything themselves. They also incorporated a rather clever way of giving us our clues. There's definitely a bit of a scare factor with this room especially with the surprise ending. It definitely made me jump and scream a little. Our experience in the first room - "The Vampire's Lair" was extremely enjoyable and we decided to book the "Summerfield Place" room back-to-back. After experiencing the first room's design, the second room felt less impressive. Although we understand that they were going with the theme of the storyline, some of the props and items needed an upgrade. However, there were a couple of high-tech puzzles in there that we haven't seen before which we thought was pretty interesting. We got stumped a bit at the end but ultimately got out with time to spare. We enjoyed how they stuck with the storyline and there were no red herrings in the room. The lobby area is quite spacious and your escape room rules will be played for you on a TV. We spent a good amount of time at the beginning trying to over think a puzzle that should have been very obvious. This room had a good combination of "Gen 1 Tech" puzzles and regular lock puzzles. We felt that the room was quite linear in that if we got stuck on one puzzle, there was nothing else we could have done team-wise. It would definitely be wise to use clues if you are stuck since you'll need that extra time towards the end. We were about 90% completed with four people. If it wasn't for the slow start in the beginning, we would've definitely been able to get out. The waiting area is quite small, but we were promptly greeted by one of the owners. This is our favorite room out of all the other ones that we've tried at their other locations. The storyline and design of "The Mayan Tomb" room was extremely immersive. We felt like we were entering a dig site right away although the commentary was quite hard to hear at the beginning for our clues. I think four people is a good amount for this room or else it would feel a bit crowded especially at the beginning. Our team was able to simultaneously tackle different puzzles right away which was great. There was no red herrings whatsoever. There was a few puzzle tools in there that we've never seen before, so it was exciting to solve those. This location also does not have an elevator and it's one flight of stairs. This location only has two rooms and we tried their easier one - "The Lost City". Before the playing, our game master noticed that one of the puzzles was broken, so he had to do a last minute "fix" which involved him personally coming into the room to give us a clue. We thought that kind of took away some of the aspect of the gameplay. The design of this room was rather simple. I would not focus too much on the design of the set. There was one part of the puzzle where we kind of had to guess the color for one of the puzzle pieces as we felt the colors were pretty similar and not sure if it's because it's faded due to "wear and tear". It would definitely help to fix some of these items prior to so that the players can benefit from the whole experience. There were some clever puzzle mechanisms that we haven't seen before. One being the one that malfunctioned prior to our game, so it would've been cool to see how it actually worked. The room design was very Disney and you actually feel like you are in an icy kingdom and perhaps even with a little "chilly" feeling. This is a very beginners room in terms of difficulty level of puzzles so just like it's theme, it would be great for young kids. We were a bit disappointed that we couldn't fully enjoy the room due to the fact that one of the puzzles wasn't reset from the previous group's game. With that said, we did escape with a good amount of time left for two people. Again, this particular location (Wayne) does not have an elevator available. They are very accommodating with "last minute" bookings, hence their name. It would be best to call them with your desired time and they'll try to make it work as they are not on-site all the time so you can't just show up. This particular location (Wayne) does not have an elevator available. You will have to climb one flight up. There's a small waiting area outside with a few chairs. When they come to get you, they will bring you into the larger room to debrief you with a video on the TV. Their commentary was quite humorous. We had the room to ourselves but this room is definitely not for two people. There's quite a lot of different types of puzzles and it's not all linear so if you have a big group you can definitely separate and tackle them simultaneously. There's a bit of a "jumpy" feel to the design of the room but definitely not scary. I would say it was also a good mixture of "Gen 1 tech" and good old-fashioned puzzle locks. The recommended number of people for this room should be five or more. The staff is extremely friendly and you can tell that they are passionate about escape rooms. There are riddles in the waiting room to help prepare you for your experience. Their puzzles are very linear and one clue basically leads to the solution of another. There are no red herrings which we really liked. There's not much of a storyline or mystery to solve, but if you are all about locks and solving linear puzzles, then this is definitely the room for you. There isn't a lot of high tech stuff incorporated into the room, but we really enjoyed some of the clever ways that they were able to use the props to give clues. The design of the room was also very simple, everything you see in there is probably going to be useful. In fact, after getting out of this room, we did another one of their rooms right after. You can read about our review of "The Remedy" room to help you decide on which room is a better fit for you. After completing "The Remedy" room, we wanted to give ourselves a challenge and we ended up being super close to finishing, but we needed a few more seconds. It was definitely challenging with two people as there were more puzzles to solve and the hint system was quite unique and took a little bit of a time to receive. The design of "The Hidden Cabin" room was definitely more immersive than the other room. Once again, we liked the fact that their puzzles have no red herrings. We got stuck on one puzzle which took quite some time. I'm not sure if our approach was really the best way to solve it, but apparently it was the only way. For more information on our experiences in the other rooms - "The Remedy" and "The Hidden Cabin", check out our reviews. We tackled it with two people and had about 7 minutes left. The design of the room was very simple. This escape room is extremely puzzle-heavy. Everything is very clear and to the point and super linear. Once you solve one puzzle, it opens another lock which provides you with a clue that leads to another lock. If you love this kind of play, this room is perfect for you. Once again, we like the fact that their puzzles have no red herrings. There were a few objects that we haven't seen before in other escape rooms. This room wasn't super high tech per se, but definitely it gets you to use your brain in a clever way. Make sure you give ample time to find parking. This location also has hatchet throwing, rage room, VR, and other entertainment. Our booking was probably their last shift that night, so we were able to secure the room for just the two of us. It was a very rainy night that day. This location does not have an elevator available. You will have to climb one flight up. Our game master finally came downstairs after waiting for 15 minutes past the start of our game time. We didn't receive any instructions whatsoever. He was in his flip flops and it had nothing to do with being in "character". There are two versions of this game (the "Detective Version" & the "Scary Version"). We decided to try the "Detective Version" this time around. The theme of the room was mediocre, but the rainy weather definitely created a more ominous effect. The part of the game that wasn't "well thought out", was that there are puzzles in the room that definitely required you to have a tall person in the room of at least 5' 8" in height. If not, you wouldn't be able to reach certain puzzle pieces or clues. Also, due to the rainy weather, it made it extremely difficult to solve one of the puzzles as visibility was an issue. We decided to book "The Boardwalk" room back-to-back after the "Backstage" room with our sister. The puzzles involved not only mental but some were physical challenges too. I would say one of them actually needed a bit of luck as it was the one we spend most of our time on.We particularly liked how the puzzles were spread out so that everyone could keep busy on their own. From the minute that we entered, we felt like we were actually outside on the boardwalk. The decor and sound was on point. The room was well maintained. Although this room only has a 25% escape rate, we definitely encourage you to have four people or more. Searching every inch of this room is a must!
