The puzzle, while involving repeated actions, was ingeniously crafted to avoid monotony, thanks to its unique reveals. An animatronics moment gave me goosebumps, blurring the lines between reality and fiction. This stands out as the most unforgettable moment in the game. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK We identified several tech issues in the game that could have been effectively replaced with more relevant props or solutions. Currently it felt like it's taken away from the game's immersion. The ending would have been more impactful with a larger prop reveal or celebration. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? We experienced this game remotely during COVID, and witnessing the set design in person was truly astonishing. I vividly remember the impressive size of the set, even though the Vegas location was smaller than the online version we played in Nashville. Nevertheless, it still felt like a movie set. This game is perfect for players who love jungle adventures and engaging storylines. The game featured an fun intro video that immersed us in the narrative, drawing us deeper into the jungle and the tale of the Ehlari Ruins, ultimately leading to its treasure. Only those who recognize the boundary between illusion and reality can escape the evil curse and find their way back to sober reality. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE This room is all about immersive storytelling, as we partake in a journey that touches on numerous fairytales and stories. The game’s goal isn’t immediately obvious as the game begins; we would only learn what it was several minutes later. From that point the goal remains the same, and although there are no twists or unexpected occurrences with the story, the way it unfolds is captivating. Along the journey we are lucky enough to meet several familiar characters, that both help and hinder our progress towards achieving our goal (sorry, no spoilers). Although I wouldn’t classify the characters as being actor-led, they are interactive and whimsical; further deepening your level of immersion. The game’s biggest success is certainly the way it looks and feels. The décor is rustic and thematic, with authentic props that lend themselves perfectly to the fairytale world. Integrated within the set’s construction are numerous lighting and sound special effects that are triggered at just the right moments. I remember thinking, midway through, how clever the effects are because they almost dictate the pace of the game, acting as a kind of buffer, preventing you from going too fast and almost forcing you to pause from time to time, allowing you to appreciate and soak up the atmosphere around you. The place is bursting with things to see and touch, so these moments were appreciated and calming. When summarizing the puzzles, words such as amusing, light-hearted, or simply ‘fun’, spring to mind. This is a game that does not take itself too seriously and you will realize this with almost every task you are asked to do. There are of course, still elements of deduction and logical, and searching involved, but nothing that detracts from the story or theme. A small thing, but worthy of praise, nonetheless… padding! The game does involve a small amount of crawling on a couple of occasions and it was great to see that they had padded the flooring, so no sore knees for me! 🧩 MISSED THE MARK This is an almost perfect game for us, we loved so much about it. However, the only thing that falls short is the lack of any truly cooperative puzzles. I believe it would be possible to actually complete this game solo. We always like to have some elements that require us to cooperate and communicate effectively to solve puzzles, and whilst there are moments to collaborate, they aren’t actually essential to the game play. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Deciding whether to play the game is straightforward — of course, you should! The real question is how to approach it, especially given the hefty price tag of 230 CHF, regardless of your group size. To make the best decision, you'll need to balance the cost against your desired in-game experience. Group Size and Cost: **Two/Three Players** Costs 115/77 CHF per person. This setup ensures a more intimate experience, allowing players to fully engage with the game and solve puzzles without feeling cramped or rushed. **Four to Six Players** Bringing more people can further reduce the individual cost, but this may impact the quality of your experience. Larger groups might find the rooms crowded and the puzzles less engaging due to limited participation opportunities. **Our Experience** We opted to play as a duo and found this to be an excellent choice. The game's smaller room sizes and straightforward puzzles were well-suited to two players, allowing us to enjoy a fully immersive and cooperative experience without feeling overwhelmed or constrained. Ultimately, you need to decide what matters more to you: minimizing cost or maximizing your in-game experience. If you value a more personal and engaging experience, smaller groups are the way to go, even if it means paying a bit more per person. If budget is your primary concern, larger groups can help reduce individual costs, but be prepared for a potentially less immersive experience. The story is prevalent throughout, providing an immersive experience with special effects that wow and impress. The puzzles fit the theme and have a logical flow. We always appreciate puzzles that require more than one team member to complete, and this room has several of those. There are numerous elements of searching that allow you to spend more time appreciating the set design. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There’s not too much to dislike in this room. As an experienced team we might have appreciated more challenging puzzles, but that is a personal preference. The chef is situated in a couple of the rooms, but only on a TV screen. The effect of his presence was therefore lost quite quickly. One way to elevate the experience and to heighten the tension would be to have a live actor. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This is a game which has a high level of synergy between the story and the puzzles, so despite its relative level of ease, it should satisfy all levels of experience. We were greeted by the school’s Headmaster who escorted us to our room and disciplined us for being unruly students. The actor did a great job staying in character and responding on point to our humor. A tense atmosphere is present, though it is not one of horror, but one of suspense, with the occasional scare to keep the adrenaline flowing. We found the puzzles to be very thematic and particularly enjoyed those which required teamwork to complete. We loved how they took us on a journey through many parts of the monastery, including a brief stint outside. The ending was well done and successfully closed the story loop, we exited with a smile on our faces. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Being an experienced team, we might have appreciated more complexity to the puzzles. Several of them used very basic logic to complete, making it occasionally feel like a room for beginners. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This is one of the top-rated rooms in the Netherlands and definitely worth playing, no matter what level you are. Video above is property of Rock City Escape 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE As the game progresses the level of tension gradually increases, concluding with a spectacular finale. The room wasn’t particularly scary, despite how it might appear in the marketing, so hopefully the minor horror elements don’t deter people from playing. The setting of the game, taking place in a genuine monastery, heightens the level of immersion. This is also enhanced at the beginning by watching a short, professionally made video that dramatizes the story. There is a lot of variety with the puzzles, including light dexterity, observation and searching, deduction, and cooperation. The puzzles begin in a nonlinear format allowing larger or more experienced teams to split up and tackle different elements simultaneously, should they want to escape in a faster time. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The room is now quite a few years old, and comparing it to the other rooms at this location it does feel it. The first room in particular seemed quite bland and doesn’t convey a high degree of the tension we had expected in the buildup. This is a Gen-1 room, and so the puzzles are also very basic with a lot of padlocks to open. Although the puzzles were all logical there wasn’t a lot of cohesion between them at times. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? If you are coming to Rock City Escape to play "Poppet" or "Soup du Jour" , then it’s worth spending the extra hour to help free "Bloody Mary" . Pictures and words can't do adequate justice to the depth and breadth of lighting, sounds, decor, and overall ambience. It truly must be experienced to be understood! As we explored the room, we found the progression and variety of the activities contained within to be thoughtful and reflective of the path a perfect date night could take. This is not an escape room, but something far more expansive and relationship-centered. Enthusiasts will find the puzzles to be relatively simple; the goal is not to expertly speed through the challenges, but instead to luxuriate in the beauty of an unfolding, unpredictable experience. ‘Approach the opportunities with intent and vigor' is an apt instruction from the visionary creator. We have from time to time discussed our desire to either create or participate in an experience that was multi-dimensional (such as an airbnb containing hidden puzzles and secret compartments). This is that dream, but 1001 times greater due to the spectacular thematic design and the incorporation of romantic experiences that ranged from light-hearted to intimate. When compared to the cost of similarly opulent luxury resorts and hotels, we feel that this unique experience provides fantastic value and is the ultimate extravagance for a special occasion. We recommend splurging on at least one of the add-ons, depending on your personalities and curiosities… 🧩 MISSED THE MARK We stayed in "The Genie Suite" shortly after it opened. We did encounter a few technical glitches that are easily rectified, and we found the owner to be very communicative. He is clearly interested in crafting a flawless experience. In an attempt to keep elements that are not central to the immersive environment to a minimum, instructions as to how to operate some of the components are a bit lacking. We found ourselves wondering 'how do we keep the mood lighting going?' and 'how does this work?'. We appreciate the creator's desire to minimize disruptions to the immersion but would've preferred to avoid googling how to turn certain things on or off. This is another easy fix that would further enhance this incredible experience. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? We love escape rooms and outdoor adventure challenges both for the joy of discovering unexpected surprises and for the connection and teamwork they foster. While theGenie Suite provides plenty of those moments, it also led us to create novel, personal, and intimate memories that we will talk about forever. We found the experience to be both extremely fun and one that allowed us to deepen our connection to one another. Prepare to smile and laugh, as well as to be vulnerable and passionate together. We had a clear objective, moving beyond merely following instructions to solve puzzles. The character introductions at the start of each room were an excellent way to guide us, enriching the overall game experience. We found rooms 1 and 2 to be the most enjoyable. The first room had an exciting infiltration vibe, while the second transported us into a circus setting, ready to start our revenge. The ending was exhilarating, delivering an adrenaline rush with its time constraints and fostering teamwork. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Several activities seemed overly repetitive, particularly in the third room, as they extended over numerous rounds. We couldn't tell if we had completed any rounds or advanced to the next level. It felt like we were repeating the same task, making the time seem prolonged. One of the puzzles included word clues that were challenging to interpret regarding shape and color. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This game is an exhilarating blend of mini escape room puzzles brought together in an exciting circus theme. It was like juggling brain-busting challenges while riding a unicycle—prepare to sweat! We're all about this wacky idea and can't wait to see more rooms packed into one game, with puzzles and games as varied as a clown's wardrobe. And the finale? Let's just say it was an explosive good time, and we definitely had a "blast"—literally! If you’re familiar with how solutions are checked in the EXIT games, then you will have no issues here. The instructions explain how we use “Clair” (the wheel) to check our solution. After we find three symbols in the puzzle, we line them up on Clair which reveals a number in the center, then take the matching numbered card from the answer deck to see if we are correct. Everything looked fantastic and with the front cover when we opened the box, this immediately sets the tone of this great looking experience. The gameplay and the story unfolded through the comic book and along the way, we hit stop signs that told us not to proceed until a puzzle has been solved. Each stop sign directed us to a specific envelope which we opened to reveal everything we needed to solve that puzzle. The props really stood out here. They were higher quality than we expected, and some were even larger than we anticipated. Using a comic book to deliver the narrative was a great touch. It felt far more immersive than reading text, with characters speaking directly to us as the story unfolded. Some were straightforward and intuitive, while others required more deduction and careful attention to details in the comic. Most of them though, needed some of the amazing props provided and even had us build some items. Difficulty varied throughout, which kept things interesting, though it occasionally felt a bit uneven. The hint system was well designed on the cards. Easier puzzles had fewer hint tiers, while tougher ones offered more, making it easy to get help without spoiling too much. Having the visuals of the comic book to take us through the story really stepped up the experience and props to the props. We were still astonished every time we pulled something out and were “Whoa! This is cool”. There was a solid variety of puzzles that blended nicely into the game adding to the immersion. We played with two people but found that there was enough to go around to accommodate up to four people. We felt as if we had been transported to an ancient town's pub, where we were introduced to a storyline and informed about the portal we would be exploring. The clues provided for the puzzles were really clear, allowing us to progress through the game seamlessly. In the latter stages of the game, there was a cleverly designed mechanism that enabled us to retrieve an item, perfectly aligning with the theme. The instructions we followed to uncover what happened to the local character, Budrow, and how we could assist him were logical and aligned with our mission. There was a torch puzzle that utilized the torch in a novel and innovative way, which we had not encountered before. We appreciated the uniqueness of this escape room's theme, and the most remarkable aspect was the unexpected twist at the end! 🧩 MISSED THE MARK It would be beneficial to have the "character" who provides hints or storyline elements audible in the second room as well, so participants do not miss any information or need to run back and forth to hear the messages. One of the puzzles offered too many visual clues, which led to confusion. We didn't actually use some of the clues in room 1 but was able to solve it based on the clues solely in room 2. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This room was an absolute blast! It exuded a thrilling mix of mystery and eeriness (not quite horror, but the atmospheric lighting and sound might spook those new to creepy rooms) and gave us an exhilarating adrenaline rush as we uncovered the truth behind the swamp thing. We absolutely loved the GM's performance at the start and the character voices that enhanced our gaming experience throughout. However, this particular escape room stood out for its realism. The tasks required for escape were so ingeniously designed that we completely immersed ourselves, forgetting it was just a game. A prop we constructed during the game resulted in a special effect that provided a memorable "wow" moment. Our favorite aspect was the experience of navigating through the escape rooms as if we were truly escaping. Unlike most rooms that offer a single surprise, this one was filled with multiple unexpected elements. Teamwork was heavily emphasized, aligning perfectly with the collaborative nature of the escape theme. The game's puzzle designs effectively utilized available props and required us to observe and recall information, aiding in our escape strategy. Just as we believed we had escaped, the game presented a final challenge with limited time remaining, providing an exhilarating adrenaline rush. Successfully completing the game with seconds to spare was immensely satisfying. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One of the logic puzzles caused some confusion due to its wording regarding the elimination of certain individuals. At one point during the game, we believed we had successfully escaped, yet it was unclear why we needed to "re-enter". This may have been influenced by the spatial constraints faced by the designers. This was the only aspect of the game that left us uncertain. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Wow, the creators of these escape rooms must be absolute movie buffs! Does this storyline ring a bell? If you've seen "The Shawshank Redemption" (and if not, go watch it!), you'll know exactly what I mean. It's incredible to immerse ourselves in this movie-like experience and feel what Andy and Ellis felt in those intense moments. Brandon and I had some intense planning and teamwork as we strategized our escape, hunting for tools and physically crafting our escape plan! We had to plan meticulously, figure out the guard's schedule, and even consider the guard dogs. The creators thought of every possible real-life scenario, making this game feel astonishingly authentic! This was definitely one of the top games we've enjoyed out of the four at this location. You absolutely have to try escaping from this unbelievably secure prison to understand what we're raving about! Upon entering, you're immediately captivated by the vivid colors and nostalgic music playing in the background, enhancing an authentic hookah lounge vibe. Observation and communication were the core elements emphasized by the puzzle designers in this room. Light indicators guided players on which puzzles to prioritize as they progressed through the game, which was crucial given the abundance of information and props available. The bonus puzzle element was a fun addition to the game, allowing players who finished early to utilize their extra time engaging with this component. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK A "hint" was provided to initiate the game, but it was placed on only one player's chair. It would be beneficial to distribute it to all players, as one individual might not understand it, while another might. An initial clue was somewhat perplexing, as the pictures suggested multiple possible solutions, leading to confusion. There was a physical puzzle that only one player could engage with at a time. Given the linear nature of the game, this occasionally resulted in other players experiencing boredom while waiting for the puzzle to be solved. This was a recurring issue throughout the game. Occasionally, we overlooked changes in the room after completing a puzzle, as the light indicators were difficult to locate. Incorporating a sound element to guide players on where to focus next would be advantageous. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This game would function more effectively with all four players present instead of just 2-3 people. There were several instances where we couldn't tell what was triggered after solving a puzzle because all the lights in the room were on, making it hard to notice changes if we weren't there at the right moment. Having more eyes would likely help capture more details. Additionally, the room could be designed in a more non-linear way so that every player has something to do, especially with more than two players. We noticed that the puzzles were solved rather quickly, leaving plenty of time remaining. The concept is very fun and unique, and we thoroughly enjoyed their "Chained" game which was fairly similar. Our favorite aspect of the game was undoubtedly the special effects. We genuinely experienced changes in temperature and movement. It was truly extraordinary. (This isn't a spoiler, as you should definitely experience it for yourself). The puzzles resembled tasks assigned during emergency situations. We felt like crew members on deck, quickly addressing any malfunctions. The atmosphere in the engine room was intense, and everyone certainly perspired at some point during the game. Despite the numerous buttons and instructions scattered around the room, the objective was clear, and there was an indicator that informed us whether we had completed all tasks or if there were still outstanding ones. The game's creators once again incorporated real-life scenarios, basing the escape on our ability to successfully complete the rescue mission. We greatly appreciated this aspect of Ryco's creator's thought process. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK We thoroughly enjoyed this game from start to finish. We believe the developers covered nearly every aspect, though we feel the latter part of the game could benefit from being extended with additional puzzles. However, this suggestion comes from our perspective as greedy enthusiasts. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Just the name of the escape room alone makes me absolutely eager to dive in! As a huge Titanic fan who's watched the movie countless times, I've always wondered what those passengers felt when they realized the ship was sinking. But in this game, we faced thrilling challenges that gave us a shot at saving ourselves. The set design was incredibly authentic, and the special effects—lighting, movement, and the overall ambiance—made the experience so immersive. We truly felt like heroes as we worked hard to change our fate, especially with the epic ending celebration that was a total "Jack and Rose" moment. This room doesn't have a live actor but the starting point of the game was quite unique. There was a pleasant surprise to how one of the clues was embedded. O ur favorite part of the game was the final task. The prop had a cool design where it wasn't just a normal obstacle but lots of different ones combined. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There was a pretty obvious prop that was just in the room for decor but because it was operatable, it felt like a red herring. We suggest either adding a puzzle or removing the functionality on the prop. There was a puzzle that had no directions on the ordering of the input. We were told later it was because an initial design had malfunctioned. We suggest remodifying this puzzle and giving it some reasoning behind the arrangement . A final part of the challenge lacked clarity as to why we couldn't find the clue on something we needed to do. Moreover, after we took a guess and completed the puzzle, the timer didn't stop. So we were confused as to if the gamemaster could hear or see us in the control room. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This room was built on the idea of giving the players many tasks that revolved around a security company. Some tasks made us feel that way (especially ones that involved disassembling something) but some didn't feel related to the theme. A few clues also were ambiguous. The interview idea for an escape room is quite uncommon. We hope by ironing out a few kinks in the puzzles, this could become a solid game. Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The decor and props had a medieval vibe. The final reveal bought back memories from the Game of Thrones episode . The display used for the clue system fits nicely with the theme of the room. Every clue appeared like someone was writing a script font on a scroll. There's a cool apparatus in the game that we haven't seen before. It was a clever way of not using too much tech but still creating a different way of releasing a lock. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The lighting was pretty dim and the lamps in the room didn't really help much. It was pretty difficult to find clues. At one point we couldn't even find the keyhole for us to insert the key. It seems to be difficult for the gamemaster to hear or see us in the control room as the clues given were not what we had asked for. However, we were able to hear the sounds from upstairs. If you had a choice, book the downstairs room for better soundproofing. One of the riddles could be interpreted in different ways where the answer would also be different. We recommend bolting things down to eliminate the red herring. One of the props needed to be updated as the puzzle solution could vary. Since the answer needed to be an exact digit, the prop should be able to display that as well. As careful players, we wouldn't assume we could stand on furniture or reach up too high. This could be easily resolved by locking the item up elsewhere. One of the visual clues was not clear in terms of the illustration. Perhaps this could be replaced with a word clue or a different image. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? If you are a "Game Of Thrones" fan, you'll probably have flashbacks of the show while playing the game. However, having watched the show is not going to put you at an advantage in solving any of the puzzles. Talking about saving the best for last, the finale of the game was what a true GOT fan would be very excited about. Think you got what it takes to save your kingdom? We like the concept of the interactive video involved with the puzzle elements. Set design was very detailed. Even though there seemed to be a lot of decor in the room, you will not have mistaken them as red herrings. Things that were not needed were bolted down nicely on shelves. Various puzzles were interactive and fun. This room was not linear at all so a large group can easily “divide and conquer”.   Great way of utilizing the space of the room to create different set designs. We love it when owners think outside the box in terms of a room not just being a box, but can also create different “levels” to enhance the player’s experience. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK If the interactive video prop can also act as the clue giver, it would bring add a more immersive feel. Although there were choice endings, it would’ve been nice to have some middle choice elements as well since the ending choices felt more like two options versus four. There was one interactive element in the room that was a bit confusing as the prop had an association with the puzzle that wasn’t used at the end. One puzzle in the latter game was a bit hard to understand despite following the hint instruction but we were able to use process of elimination and solved it at the end. We felt like we spent the most time here.     🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This room is ranked as their hardest room right now and usually a minimum of four people is needed for the booking. Since we played it with only the two of us, we totally felt the intensity of the number of puzzles in the room. Most of the time we were solving puzzles simultaneously in order to quickly move forward. We did get out with seconds to spare but did not have time to even think about the bonus puzzle. "Can U Xcape" is known for adding a bonus mission in their rooms and if you solve it, they will take some time off of the clock when you escape. This is great for enthusiasts looking for a challenge. Our recommended size for the room is 4-6 people.
