  • Escape in Time - "First Years"

LOCATION: Spring, Texas, USA Photo above is property of Escape In Time Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐Ÿ“ ETR DECODER ๐Ÿ”‘ GAME: First Years ๐Ÿ“… DATE PLAYED: October 31, 2025 ๐ŸŽฌ GENRE: Fantasy, Magic ๐Ÿง  DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 5/10 ๐Ÿ‘ฅ TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 3-8 ppl (Ages 12+) ๐Ÿ•’ LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. ๐Ÿ’ฐ PRICE: $35.00/ pp (Min. 2 ppl) โ˜Ž๏ธ BOOKING TYPE: Private ๐Ÿ”“ ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes ๐Ÿ“– THE STORY Embark on an extraordinary adventure as novice wizards and witches! Gather essential supplies like enchanted wands and potion ingredients. Beware of lurking dark forces eager to challenge your abilities. With puzzles for first-year students, this quest offers thrills for all ages. Gather your friends, unlock your magic, and conquer evil before time runs out. Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐ŸŽฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE The way we were introduced to the game was an exciting moment, thanks to the "secretive" approach of the game designer and the mere size of the entrance. The set design truly captured the essence of Diagon Alley from Harry Potter. There were a variety of enchanting stores, such as those selling magic books, brooms, and wands. Additionally, various "characters" were busily engaged in their tasks, enhancing the magical atmosphere. The puzzles varied in categories but consistently adhered to the fantasy world theme. We were particularly thrilled by a transformation in one of them that felt like a magical performance. ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK The props definitely needs updating. Several of them didn't function properly during our experience, which detracted from the immersion. An outdated puzzle clue was left in the room, leading to confusion as we attempted to solve a nonexistent puzzle. The ending should deliver a more triumphant experience through some special effects that could be felt by the players. ๐Ÿน TAKE A SHOT? Attention Harry Potter enthusiasts! Are you ready to challenge your intellect? While you don't need to know the movie details to make your escape, you'll certainly discover some Easter Eggs that fans will appreciate. If the room receives updates on the condition of some props and technology, it promises to be an enjoyable experience for participants, as the puzzles functioned smoothly, and the set design was definitely entertaining to explore! โ„น๏ธ ADDITIONAL INFO Seating in the lobby This game is located in the building across from their main lobby Free parking right outside the venue Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) • Thames & Kosmos - "Masters of Crime: Shadows"

Photo above is property of Thames & Kosmos Company: Thames & Kosmos Game: Masters of Crime: Shadows Country: USA ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Language: English Type of Game: Tabletop Games ๐Ÿ“ฌ Genre: Mystery, Heist Date Played: December 24, 2024 Difficulty (based on 2 players): 5/10 Size of Team: 1+ Players (Ages 16+) Time: Approximately 10-15 Mins/ per day (for 24 days) Price: $15.38 ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†ˆ Youโ€™re no ordinary thief. Youโ€™ve been hired for the ultimate high-stakes job: stealing a painting from the prestigious Bachmann Gallery. But before you can snag the goods, thereโ€™s a whole lot of prep work to do. From assembling a crack team to scouting the gallery and crafting a foolproof plan, every choice you make could be the difference between getting away with the loot or ending up in the slammer. And when the big day comes, the real question is: were you ready? The thrill of executing your plan and seeing your decisions play out makes this game different from your typical tabletop puzzle game. Youโ€™ll feel the rush (and pressure) of pulling off that perfect heist! Video above is property of Thames & Kosmos ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด โž๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ…บ๐Ÿ†‚โž Visually, " Masters of Crime: Shadows " leans minimalist, but it works for the tone of the game. The illustrations are few but effective, capturing the vibe of a sleek, modern heist. The materials are dominated by a deck of cards (covering locations, characters, and story/puzzle elements) and 12 envelopes containing images, clues, and other vital info. Youโ€™ll also get a notes page to track things like your timeline and a paper playmat to keep the chaos organized. The playmat isnโ€™t strictly essential, especially if youโ€™re short on table space, but itโ€™s a nice touch to help you find things. While the game may not leave a visual imprint in the way some highly stylized games do, the clean design and sharp organization allow the story and puzzles to shine. Itโ€™s a form-follows-function approach, and it works. Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ…ผ๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ†ˆ Where " Masters of Crime: Shadows " truly excels is in making you feel like your decisions matter. The game unfolds in two acts: first, the planning phase, where you decide how to prepare for the heist. This is where most of the action takes place, as youโ€™ll weigh options, debate strategies, and try to cover all your bases. The second act is the heist itself, where your earlier choices play out and determine your success. While the heist section is shorter, itโ€™s deeply satisfying to see how your preparation pays offโ€ฆor doesnโ€™t. The game blends storytelling, paper puzzles, and online elements, requiring an internet connection to play. The online components feel realistic, heightening the tension and pulling you deeper into the world. Be ready for a fair bit of reading - itโ€™s a storytelling game, after all - but it never feels overwhelming. Instead, it adds depth to your decisions, and it sparked plenty of lively discussions between Dave and I over how best to pull off our daring plan. Photo above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ด๐Ÿ†‚ The puzzles themselves are on the easier side, making this a great entry point for non-puzzlers, and the quick solves keep the pace moving. Despite their simplicity, the puzzles are polished and well-integrated into the story, never feeling like afterthoughts. Both the paper-based and online elements are thoughtfully designed, enhancing the narrative while keeping you engaged. We especially loved how everything tied back to the heist theme, making each solve feel purposeful and connected to your mission. The puzzles are not the star of this show, but they play their part solidly, complementing the story and heightening the sense of being actively involved in your heist. Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐Ÿ…ฒ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ…ธ๐Ÿ…ฝ๐Ÿ…ถ ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ†‚ If youโ€™re craving something different, " Masters of Crime: Shadows " delivers. Itโ€™s the first of the Masters of Crime series that weโ€™ve tried, and the concept feels fresh! A heist may be a common theme, but the freedom to plan and shape it yourself is unusual, intriguing, and lots of fun. The story is engaging, and the game is well-constructed, providing plenty of value (and hours of play) for its price point. The 16+ age rating felt a bit high to us. While you do play criminals and there are some more adult concepts, weโ€™d feel comfortable with players 12+, as the feeling is more lighthearted rather than gory or gritty. While weโ€™ve pulled off plenty of heists in in-person escape rooms, weโ€™ve found that tabletop games more often have you as the detective solving the crime. Shadows not only puts you on the dark side of the law, it has you overseeing every aspect of the heist from the ground up. Itโ€™s a novel and immersive approach that made us feel fully invested in the gameplay. Whether youโ€™re a puzzle enthusiast or a storytelling fan, this is a game worth your timeโ€”especially if youโ€™ve ever dreamed of being the mastermind behind the perfect crime. • Thames & Kosmos - "Masters of Crime: Incognito"

Photo above is property of Thames & Kosmos Company: Thames & Kosmos Game: Masters of Crime: Incognito Country: USA ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Language: English Type of Game: Tabletop Games ๐Ÿ“ฌ Genre: Crime, Mystery Date Played: January 24, 2025 Difficulty (based on 6 players): 6/10 Size of Team: 1-6 Players (Ages 16+) Time: Approximately 2-4 Hrs. Price: $19.45 ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†ˆ Liam Oโ€™Reilly, a member of the notorious Brooklyn Seventeen gang and serving time in prison, was ready to turn over some key information to the FBI but before he could, he was found dead. Given the circumstances, the FBI suspects foul play and has sent you into the prison, incognito to find out what truly happened to Oโ€™Reilly. Video above is property of Thames & Kosmos ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด โž๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ…บ๐Ÿ†‚โž Inside the box, we found a large poster that looks like a mat where we will have to lay out cards as well as a large deck of cards asking us not to shuffle or look through them. There were also a handful of sealed papers, each marked with a number. Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ…ผ๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ†ˆ Opening the box, there was minimal set up and the rules were easy to learn, making it easy to jump right in.. We laid out the large poster that served as a game board to help us track locations, suspects and upcoming cards. We placed the card deck beside the poster where we were explicitly not to shuffle the cards. Working through each card, they were very straightforward in explaining how the game mechanics, setup process, and how to interpret the symbols and cards we would run into. Something unique that we rarely see in big box store games are websites that we needed to navigate to solve the mystery. These were well designed and enhanced the gameplay for us. . The game did involve a lot of reading but there was plenty of material to pass around, keeping everyone engaged. While some of the writing came across as unintentionally humorous, it added to the experience, making the game entertaining and immersive. Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ด๐Ÿ†‚ This was packed with deduction puzzles making us work like real detectives to piece together evidence, create timelines, find alibis and more. There was plenty to go though but we never felt like we needed to make a leap in logic. Many times, we had to make a choice in the game. Most times, we would need to use what we knew to be able to make the better choice. Though we would get the same items if we made a bad choice, we would earn a better star rating if we made a good decision, which we would tally up at the end to see how we did. Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐Ÿ…ฒ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ…ธ๐Ÿ…ฝ๐Ÿ…ถ ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ†‚ " Masters of Crime: Incognito " hits a lot of high points. The setup was quick and simple, with minimal rules to learn, allowing us to dive right in. The deduction provided plenty of content to sift through and a Choose Your Own Adventure style where our choices would decide our final rating. We played with 6 people and found that there was enough material for everyone as well as how large the playmat was which let multiple people work together. With less people though, everyone could easily participate in more. Any armchair detectives or fans of Choose Your Own Adventure style gaming would enjoy this game. This is one game that shouldnโ€™t go Incognito. We built our own kingdoms out of dreams and believed that everything was possible. Fairy tales helped us understand the world โ€“ they taught us about kindness, friendship and courage. They shaped who we became long before we grew up. But something has changed... The world of fairy tales is falling apart. Chaos has taken over their pages. Evil has seized control, and happy endings have disappeared. We can no longer escape into stories, because even there itโ€™s no longer safe. Our childhood dreams, our imagination, our sense of comfort โ€“ all gone. The world that once made us feel safe has been destroyed. And nowโ€ฆ the final day of fairy tales has arrived. Evil has crept into every story and twisted its meaning. Fairy tales teach something entirely different now โ€“ that trickery pays off, that lies can be called cleverness, that the end justifies the means. Suddenly, everything we were taught stops mattering. What would the world look like if, from childhood, we believed that evil is wiser than good? Everything now depends on you. You must save the land of imagination. You must believe in miracles again โ€“ just like when everything seemed possible. Take the fate of our stories into your own hands and bring back happy endings. Restore the power of imagination so the child within us never fades away. You have 80 minutes to set the world of fairy tales right, to save our imagination, our stories, our hopes. The only question isโ€ฆ are you ready to believe once more? Because maybe itโ€™s not about living like in a fairy tale โ€“ but about learning to believe in one again. ๐ŸŽฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE A cozy, family-friendly escape room A kind and meaningful story with a moral Excellent atmosphere and in-game elements ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK If we really try to find something to nitpick on, it would be the very last puzzle. Escape from the Nine Room is one SCRAP's "Nine Room" series, designed to accommodate multiple teams starting the game at 15-minute intervals. This game places a strong emphasis on puzzles rather than room design, challenging players to think outside the box rather than relying on traditional puzzle types. Participants must swiftly connect visual and written clues to succeed. While we felt some puzzles had a significant leaps in logic, which can be challenging under time constraints, the final puzzle particularly exemplifies this. It's possible that a language barrier made the hint less clear for us than it might be for Japanese players. Compared to this, we definitely prefer "Escape from the Witch's House in the Woods." Price: $7.49 ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†ˆ The Mask of Jurelya is an ancient artifact rumored to be bound to the spirit of a demon. Many have spent years searching for it, including your friend, Professor Crane. She recently sent you a message asking you to meet her, claiming she had something to show you. However, when you arrive, you find that her door has been broken into and she is nowhere to be found. Where did Professor Crane go, and what dark secrets lie behind the mask? Video above is property of TreasureQuesting ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ…ผ๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ†ˆ When I opened the game, I went through a detailed tutorial on how everything worked and how to use the custom point-and-click interface. As I played, I found the puzzles were direct. I wasnโ€™t searching the room for clues. All the information I needed was laid out right in front of me to solve. The game has smooth cutscenes and high quality voice work that took me from puzzle to puzzle. Some of the small details I really liked were the ambient background music, which wasnโ€™t too distracting, and the completion percentage and timer at the top that helped me track my progress. Photos above are property of TreasureQuesting ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ด๐Ÿ†‚ The puzzles were well thought out, consisting mostly of logic puzzles sprinkled with some escape room style challenges. However, there were a few moments where it was not clear what the game wanted as an input. The only way to find out was when I tried entering a solution, the game would tell me it was incorrect and explain what it wanted me to provide. This worked out fine as there was no penalty for wrong answers. The hint system used a tiered approach, which was well designed but came with time penalties. While it worked, it was a bit frustrating when I was stuck on a final step and I had to take all the penalties and click through all the hints for things I had already solved just to get to the part I actually needed. Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐Ÿ…ฒ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ…ธ๐Ÿ…ฝ๐Ÿ…ถ ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ†‚ " Mask of Jurelya " was a fun and engaging game to play. The puzzles made sense and fit perfectly into the story, which was accompanied by the solid artwork and cutscenes. One thing I really liked was the ability to go back through the puzzles at the end. I enjoy reviewing puzzles once Iโ€™ve finished a game, and this gave me the perfect opportunity to do that. I played on my own, which I think worked best for some of the logic puzzles. This game is great for people who enjoy competition since you can compare scores with friends afterward. It is definitely worth a play. Also, since the TreasureQuesting system allows you to build games for friends and having a few smaller games in their catalog, Iโ€™ll definitely be returning to see what else they have to offer. After successfully retrieving rock star Larz Killz's unreleased final album, he thanked you by knocking you out and locking you inside a strange place. Only when you and your teammates would successfully manage to solve all the trivia questions will you guys be able to decipher the message he has left for all of you and maybe, just maybe, you might have a chance to escape the inner sanctum of the mad rocker. Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐ŸŽฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE Having the option to solve the puzzles either by knowing the trivia or solving it another way was nice. It definitely gave the player more choices on how they want to play the game. There was a clear passage that we had to take in order to unlock the final answer. A notepad was provided and very useful throughout the game. There were items in the room that were designed for people who were not into puzzling but could still have a lot of fun. T he owner took the time to make the theme feel as authentic as possible. There were numerous music records in the room along with real guitars. If you are a fan of music, especially rock, there will be some nostalgic moments (you can even be your own DJ!). ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK Some of the clues seemed too obvious (at least for enthusiasts). It was literally pointing to the answers at times. It would be better if the hint system could play into the storyline instead of having to hold the walkie talkie the entire time. ๐Ÿน TAKE A SHOT? This game had a little more handholding than their other game " The Dragon Egg 2.0 " . If you have knowledge of music trivia, you might have an easier time than other players. I would start with this game to warm up first before moving on to their other room. This escape room was build in-house with minimal tech involved. There's a lot of locks and keys and it's perfect for beginners and traditional escape room lovers. The owner has informed us that the demographic for his region are mostly beginners and the rooms are used a lot for corporate events. We can definitely feel that the puzzles are on the easier side for enthusiast. But we still had a lot of fun solving the puzzles and learning about trivia knowledge at the same time! Rumor has it, that the last remaining Dragon Egg is hidden within. Being that Garius is a powerful dark arts wizard, you know that the task of retrieving this egg isn't going to be easy. Will you get out in time? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐ŸŽฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE The puzzle flow was smooth throughout the game play. It's also great for teams as the puzzles were non-linear. There's a good mixture of various types of puzzles in the room. There were props in the room that looked like wizard's prized possessions from centuries ago, especially the magic books. ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK There's a decoder that we didn't end up using since we solve the puzzle by deduction. I wonder if that could be avoided somehow as it did cause confusion for us with the left over clue. This room had a safe that required a code and a key but the other room that we played opened with just the code. It might help to keep it consistent especially if players are playing both rooms back to back and this could be confusing as to how the box operates. Props such as a safe might not go with the wizard theme but perhaps decorating the outside to make it more like a wizard's treasure chest might resolve this issue. The ambiance of the room doesn't feel like a wizard's lair. We suggest dimming the lights and adding in some music. ๐Ÿน TAKE A SHOT? This escape room was build in-house with minimal tech involved. Running through the coast of 1800's Singapore, you find an abandoned temple and lock yourself in, only to realise that all of you are not alone. The spirits trapped there hear your plea, but only have one condition - they will keep you safe, but only if you can find a way to set them free from this place. ๐ŸŽฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE Straightforward story - Youโ€™re thrown right into the thick of it before the game even starts. The set up might be simple, but with the game masters in costume and character, and the game video hanging over our heads, itโ€™s difficult to forget why we were here in the first place. Puzzle placement - All puzzles hidden throughout the room might be scattered, but they all converge on a single anchor of an answer sheet - highly reminiscent of the escape room experiences similar to those produced by SCRAP. Kept within the theme - Being set in pre-colonial, pirate-infested Singapore, the puzzles and decor certainly boosted the mood. Mahjong tiles and the Lunar calendar involved somewhere? Yes, please! The helpline here was personal - the main actors running the game were wandering around to guide groups with hints or when asked. ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK Due to the nature of this game being part of a larger festival, there was minimal process after escaping - post-show was only available for players who did not escape, and a photo wall for players who did escape. Take note of one of their locks - your answer may be right, but the lock may get stuck. Thankfully, there was always staff around to aid with hardware issues. ๐Ÿน TAKE A SHOT? This game is one of the few that, hands down, brings back memories of my first few Escape Room experiences - Real Escape by SCRAP. Elegantly executed and in line with its event location (we were playing this in a meeting room at the Asian Civilisations Museum in Singapore), the SGD20 I paid for this paid for itself through the experience. Another pointer would be how this style of gameplay makes for a great environment for groups that are pieced together by single or duo players who cannot find larger groups to play with. Since the game is anchored with a single answer sheet and puzzles scattered across the place, it was easy for players to quickly get into various roles (gatherers, solvers etcโ€ฆ) within a short span of time, whether you were familiar with each other or not. For any future renditions of such games, we would recommend about 4-5 people in a group. The price ranges for these games typically range between SGD 20 to 30. โ„น๏ธ ADDITIONAL INFO This game is an experience that was only available during the 2024 run of the Singapore Writers Festival. Finding her way to their secret speakeasy, Lily will have to find the clues Robert left for her - then make the choice of whether to do so under vintage Tiffany lamps, authentic Peranakan furniture, and evocative paintings. All of which they need to do before Lilyโ€™s father comes to stop her. ๐ŸŽฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE Straightforward mission - You start with a note which spells out your end stage and gives you a logo that appears through the mission, serving to differentiate anchor items from regular accessories or furniture in the space. Subconsciously immersive details - One thing I mentioned to the gameโ€™s creator was how clever setting this story in a speakeasy was. Playing the role of someone thinking of running away with her lover, setting the game at a place only the both of them will know about, away from public sight, just adds more immersion to the story. Push the observation buttons - Hereโ€™s a tip Iโ€™ve learnt with this experience - the more you rush, the less you see. Different from those in self-contained rooms, a game set in a publicly-accessible place pushes us to take our time and focus on details in the space that we would usually gloss over. ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK Symbol clarity - One of the puzzles could easily confuse players who may not notice or are not able to differentiate between depictions of certain items in the bar. Having photos of similar puzzle pieces and their surrounding items during this puzzle stage will help greatly. Space invasion - Take note that you might have to step into the spaces of other patrons if the bar is crowded - one of the clues will require finding information close to the walls (where patrons can be seated - so do be polite with other patrons!). ๐Ÿน TAKE A SHOT? If I had friends who wanted to dip their feet into puzzle hunts or escape rooms, but without the pressure of being in an actual room, this would be an experience I would recommend as a start. And what better to help you relax during your first few (or otherwise) escape experiences than the experience-aligned, crafted cocktails that will trigger the series of puzzles? Enjoy the hints of citrus in bright grenadine or beach-like blue curacao with either gin or rum as you attempt to bring this woman to the decision she ultimately needs to take. On a final note, this game is an experience that was only available until 15 March 2025. If youโ€™re in the area and want a little experience to go with your cocktail night, head up to The Hidden Story and ask for the โ€œLayers of Loveโ€ package to get the game going! โ„น๏ธ ADDITIONAL INFO Players who succeed in โ€œescapingโ€ also qualify for a lucky draw at the end of the gameโ€™s run - and can stand to win prizes from several of the gameโ€™s sponsors. As part of the Project HALO team, youโ€™re now part of the umpteenth attempt to go into the depths of the forest where the doctor was doing his research on the lifeforms possibly never seen before. Your mission is to find out what happened to Noah, and save the information Project HALO has been funding. That is, if you can survive what might be lurking. ๐ŸŽฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE Immersion in the middle of a crowd - First thing out of the way, this โ€œroomโ€ was held in an enclosed space in the middle of a convention. Thanks to Thorn & Keyโ€™s ingenuity, this room about looking for a lost researcher in the middle of the forest happens, as you can fathom, in a tent. Having an Escape Room experience in the middle of an event can be challenging, but the story and alignment to the setup had us forget about our actual location the moment we started playing. Compact but powerful - A shorter game and smaller space meant it was easy for us to dive into the mission. It was easy to stay focussed, and our quick turning of the only table within the tent into the Escape Room Command Centre made the sequence of puzzles clearer. Compelling Story - The post-game show involved a bit of roleplay, but that, coupled with some bonus side stories or journal entries found during the game, opened the door to more questions for more story. Some of us walked away listing possible storylines for fan fiction! ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK Price / Booking Process - I thought the process could have been more coordinated, considering how the price of the game was excluded from the ticket prices for entering the convention they were featured at. ๐Ÿน TAKE A SHOT? The tent set up in the middle of the convention centre floor was probably one of the most unique forms of engagement Iโ€™ve seen. It serves as a great conversation starter, and definitely stood out in a sea of convention booths, not to mention how having the tent meant having a โ€œtravelling roomโ€ to go around various events. And even though the duration is relatively shorter due to environmental concerns (you might not want to be stuck in a tent for an hour in the middle of a convention), the story certainly pulls you in and the time flies past quickly. Therefore, yes - if you see this tent around gaming conventions or public events, maybe ask about it. You might find yourself embarking on a mission you never expected. โ„น๏ธ ADDITIONAL INFO Players who succeed in โ€œescapingโ€ walked away with a prize - a nature-themed pin of your choosing. Theming and Immersion - The zine design definitely aligned with their themes - vaporwave and tech noir - but the digital second stage for both zines truly brought the theme together. Are you trapped in a parallel landscape or trying to find a shadow agent? The theme alignment between the zine and its digital counterpart certainly reinforces these questions. Two-part gameplay - After solving the zine, scan the QR Code for the second half of the experience. There may also be something else waiting for you at the end of the game! Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ด๐Ÿ†‚ Right Balance of Difficulty and Accessibility in Puzzles - As these zines are highly puzzle-driven, so it gave me a huge sense of satisfaction on the balance between puzzles I could get right away and those that needed a pen and paper to think things through. The good news is that the puzzles are all self-contained, so thereโ€™s no need to have background knowledge on external ciphers. However, do note that the last puzzle in each zine did not seem to have a direct link to the passcode to the second stage, so I was a little confused at the role of the final zine puzzles, before just diving into the second stage of each zine. ๐Ÿ…ฒ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ…ธ๐Ÿ…ฝ๐Ÿ…ถ ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ†‚ If you want a puzzle experience in your pocket, both zines will definitely give your brains the right amount of sizzle and fuzziness. I felt like I was on a train down to the sounds of the room. Small details are spread throughout that make exploring the room a real treat amongst the clues you must unravel. Puzzles make excellent use of space across the room. It encourages people to spread out and work together to solve a puzzle rather than divide and conquer separate puzzles. This means each player could be part of every puzzle solving moment. There is amazing variety with the puzzles from logic to pattern recognition that allows for different playing styles. The final 15% has such a good delivery in tension! No spoilers but those final puzzles really felt satisfying as we all worked together! ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK You can accidentally miss a step that means something doesnโ€™t trigger so make sure to complete all steps. Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐ŸŽฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE Mission Escape Games consistently dazzles us with their set design. As soon as we entered the room, it was clear we had been transported to the interior of a wartime submarine. From floor to ceiling, everything exuded a steel-tank vibe. With buttons and switches everywhere, we knew there was a thrilling challenge ahead. The lighting, sound, and special effects were meticulously timed for that right moment. You'll undoubtedly feel as if you've completed an action in real life. We thoroughly enjoyed the moments where we had to "force" something open and deploy some items. The subtle clues in this game truly test players' attention to detail and their ability to associate them with the tasks at hand. We were briefly stumped on one, but solving it delivered a highly satisfying "aha" moment. The game included a substantial number of puzzles that required teamwork, perfectly complementing the theme. We felt like navy officers, announcing instructions to each other to accomplish tasks. ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK One of the animations seemed somewhat long and repetitive towards the end, but this is a minor suggestion, likely because it occurred near the game's conclusion, and we were uncertain about having enough time to watch it. ๐Ÿน TAKE A SHOT? This game is perfect for a smaller group of players. Even though it's quite spacious inside, the thrill lies in passing crucial information among teammates, and a big group might have more difficulties with that. One such avid collector, Madame Daphne, resides in Houston, Texas, and has amassed an impressive collection of Houdini memorabilia. As avid Houdini aficionados, you receive a special invitation from Madame Daphne to attend a sรฉance in an attempt to contact the spirit of the beloved magician. As the sรฉance begins, strange and unexplainable events start occurring around you. What ensues is a captivating two-hour experience filled with magic, spirituality, surprises, and unexpected twists and turns. Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐ŸŽฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE Each and every detail of this room is meticulously crafted, filled to the brim with knick-knacks that seem to belong back in the 1920s. The space includes actual props used from Houdini's stage, creating an authentic atmosphere that makes you feel like you are in a collector's home of valuable artifacts. The puzzle flow and logic were extremely well done. Three experienced enthusiasts were able to complete the room with plenty of time to spare, thanks to the engaging and well-designed puzzles. There was very little time wasted, and every element of the room contributed to the overall storyline or lore of the world that Strange Bird has created. The actors and hospitality provided by the staff were impeccable. Upon meeting Madame Daphne, players will truly believe in this eccentric character as she reads the tarot, immersing everyone into the world from the very instant the game starts. The lobby you step into is a unique space filled with fun, hidden references, and fascinating details hinting at rooms to come. It's highly recommended to arrive early and explore this area as much as you can. Strange Bird seamlessly merges technology and magic tricks, making it so that there is no visible technology in the old house setting. The tricks used throughout the experience are blended so well that our group forgot technology existed and fully immersed ourselves in the story. The hint system was absolutely amazing, fitting so well into the game that we sometimes wanted to ask for hints just to see how the mechanism worked. ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK After much consideration, it's clear that there's nothing significant to critique in this section. "The Man from Beyond" is a game that all players should experience. It is so well crafted that any comments here would be minor nitpicks and wouldn't detract from your overall enjoyment.. ๐Ÿน TAKE A SHOT? First off, let me start by saying that " The Man from Beyond " is a top-tier escape room that every escape room enthusiast should make an effort to play. After completing nearly 300 rooms and multiple immersive theater events, I can confidently say this room uniquely combines immersion and escape room elements, while still prioritizing the escape room experience. What sets this room apart from others is the additional 30 minutes of storyline, creating a blend of immersive theater and escape room that is truly exceptional. Despite the immersive theater elements, " The Man from Beyond " is undoubtedly a 60-minute escape room at its core. It's an excellent way to dip your toes into immersive theater while enjoying a high-quality escape room. This room is suitable for all ages, young and old, and deals with supernatural themes in a fun and engaging way. Strange Bird Immersive has crafted a story that develops seamlessly throughout the entire experience, with no part feeling out of place or random. Every element deepens the narrative, tying the two-hour experience into a cohesive and captivating adventure. Overall, " The Man from Beyond " is an outstanding experience that escape room enthusiasts should not miss. The blend of immersive theater and escape room elements, along with a well-developed storyline and engaging puzzles, makes it a must-play for anyone looking for a unique and memorable adventure. Update - November 20, 2025 We finally got to play "The Man from Beyond" with our UK friends on Oct 30, 2025, and what an exhilarating experience it was! We wholeheartedly agree with everything our reviewer Mike mentioned, but we can't resist adding our own enthusiastic take on this magical journey. From the moment we received that unique email with directions to Strange Bird, we couldn't contain our excitement. Stepping into the empty black and white lobby, everything felt like a puzzle. Our curiosity was insatiableโ€”even the bathroom was intriguing! Till this day, I'm still wondering if I missed finding a key to a time portal? When it was "show" time, we were warmly greeted by Madame Daphneโ€”an incredible actress, or was she truly living the part? From that moment, nothing else mattered. We were swept into a whirlwind of past, present, and future! The puzzles were undeniably "magical," but the true stars were the actors. They transformed this into an unforgettable experience. Parting was tough because we craved more. We cherished every moment, and all we can say is BRAVO and hats off to everyone involved in creating this masterpiece! โ„น๏ธ ADDITIONAL INFO Free Parking Lot Complementary water or a well crafted cocktail pending on the group's experience Interactive waiting room Arrive BEFORE allotted time for best experience Photos above are property of Strange Bird Immersive Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from " ESCAPETHEROOMers "!)
