Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Typically, the cabin games we've played have leaned towards the scary side, so this is a refreshing change with just a mystery theme. we really enjoy the green light ambiance and how the lights are turned off to introduce the storyline, capturing the players' attention. Once the story concluded, the lights came on, and the game began. As we prepared for our hiking adventure, we were equipped with a school bag of gear, eliminating the need to search for items in the room. This innovative approach really enhanced player immersion. Inside the cabin, we faced numerous challenges, making it strategic to divide and conquer the puzzles. With a variety of puzzles to solve, we particularly enjoyed collaborating on a complex, multi-step one. The game's highlight was undoubtedly the unexpected "wow" moment, marked by a stunning change in set design and the impressive scale of the surprise. The lighting and ambiance captivated us instantly, creating a memory we'll forever cherish. The props in the latter part of the game heightened our sense of urgency, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Although unaware of the time, we felt invigorated by the tasks ahead. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One of the puzzle triggers was challenging to spot. We recommend implementing a sound alert to clearly indicate to players that something has been triggered or changed. For smaller teams working on different tasks, this change is even less noticeable as the change disappears once maneuvered again. The clue system can be enhanced by delivering it in a more immersive way, such as incorporating a character or an element built into the room. The finale would benefit from more impactful special effects, creating a "blast" type of experience as per our "input". 🏹 TAKE A SHOT Get ready for an incredible adventure with this mystery game! If you've ever wanted to dive into a cabin theme but felt a bit hesitant due to the scare factor, this is the perfect choice for you. This cabin is packed with an intriguing triggers but not the scary kind. We found that a group of three is ideal for tackling the challenges, as one puzzle might need at least that many to solve. However, if you're a duo like we were, the Game Master can still assist you if you follow their guidance. For beginners, this room is an excellent starting point at Escape Again. It showcases over 70 installations, rooms, portals, and wormholes, all enriched with interactive elements. Be sure to use the restroom before entering the venue, as the one inside is quite challenging to locate. The first location you'll enter is the radio station, where you'll uncover the majority of the story. Take your time to thoroughly explore this area. Additionally, every fifteen minutes, a giant energy burst emanates from the forested area into the radio station, making it a must-see event. Cowboix Hevvven is their bar and restaurant, an establishment brimming with immersive art that marries the charm of a honky-tonk watering hole with Meow Wolf's distinctive creativity and characters. The menu is designed to amplify and mirror the atmosphere, providing a place where visitors to Meow Wolf’s worlds in Houston can indulge in extraordinary Texan hospitality and comfort food. Beyond the bar door, you'll discover the venue's sole bathroom on the inside. When you enter a new area, your APP might send you an alert, so keep an eye out. It could be a task to interact with someone or something you can complete for a delightful surprise. The Theta Theater is an impressive venue space. Although there wasn't a performance during our visit, make sure to check out their show "Phenomenomaly" available from Nov 15 - Jan 4. 🤔 IN CONCLUSION Upon checking in, you'll receive a brief introduction from a guide before embarking on your own exploration. While it might initially feel overwhelming, you'll quickly become adept. This venue emphasizes art installations over story or mission-based elements compared to others, and we didn't encounter many "puzzle" features. As escape room enthusiasts, it took us a moment to adjust, as the stunning set design led us to expect hidden clues everywhere. However, once we embraced a new perspective, the possibilities became endless. The vibrant colors, incredible acoustics, and interactive elements were so captivating that we didn't want to leave. Whether you're a child or an adult, you'll become a fan of Meow Wolf in no time! We enjoyed this twist! Using a physical item to open the initial gate added a realistic touch to the experience as it simulated a real life situation. The wide variety of puzzles, including simple math, logic, chess, and mazes, allowed us to leverage our strengths and encouraged us to divide and conquer. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The storyline could have more effectively integrated the unique cowboy vs. zombie theme, as it wasn't strongly felt in the gameplay or puzzles. Revealing a secret message with the provision of a specific tool would be highly recommended. The ending would have been more impactful with something beyond merely completing the final task. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? We highly recommend this game to players who appreciate an eerie atmosphere without diving into full horror. The puzzles are manageable, and those familiar with chess fundamentals may have an advantage by skipping the instructions. With a variety of puzzle times, everyone can find something they excel at. The place is lush with an abundance of resources. Inspired by the stories and hoping for a better life, you and a few friends set out to explore this new land and see if you can make a home of it. Video above is property of Thames & Kosmos 🆃🅷🅴 ❞🅻🅾🅾🅺🆂❞ Opening up the box, we find some Exit familiar items like the answer wheel as well as the Riddle, Hint and Solution cards. We also find some Catan familiar items like some terrain hexagons, square punch-outs with resources on them, some road pieces, a scenery card and more. Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🆃🅷🅴 🅶🅰🅼🅴 🅿🅻🅰🆈 We began by going through the instructions, which did a great job of welcoming both newbies and veterans of the Exit games. If you are new to these games, you can read the whole instruction booklet but returning players only need to read the blue text for new concepts to the game. For those not familiar with the format of Exit games, each puzzle is tied to a symbol whether it be a star, circle, moon, etc. Solving each puzzle will get three numbers. Using the solution wheel, align the symbol and the three numbers together and it will reveal a number in the middle. The number will tell you which card to pull from the Solution cards. If you are correct, it will tell you how to proceed to the next puzzles. There was a nice Catan themed twist that was added to the solution wheel and encountering certain numbers. As someone who knows the Catan board game well, I was impressed with how they integrated all the story and lore into a puzzle game. There were plenty of references and little easter eggs that made us grin. Exit games are meant to be destroyed and this one we found was satisfying in its destruction. We did run into one issue on one puzzle though. There was a misprint that left out some key information. Hopefully this will be fixed in future printings. Even if you are not familiar with Catan, they held your hand going through it but you are well rewarded if you know the game. Despite the amount of Exit games that are available, the puzzles felt fresh, never repetitive and well integrated into the story. There were two of us playing which let us both dive in and experience the whole game but even up to the recommended 4, we feel it would still be a good time for everyone. This is an excellent gift for anyone who is obviously into Catan or board games in general or even someone looking for a strong entry point into the Exit games. Can you solve the devilish series of puzzles that have been confounding experts for centuries, or will you end up another prisoner of the Pharoah? 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Right from the start, the immersive decor pulls you into an archeological adventure. The entry chamber, in particular, nails that “desert expedition on the brink of discovery” feel. While the overall set is simpler than some of SQP’s later spectacles, it still captures the right tone for a tomb-bound quest. Low lighting was tomb appropriate but never impeded our ability to read…a welcome touch for those of us who now pack reading glasses as standard gear. Puzzles are large-scale and hands-on, keeping the focus on physical exploration rather than fine print. (We didn’t even need those reading glasses!) 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There aren’t many puzzles to uncover, and while they’re solid, they don’t showcase the same ingenuity or variety that SQP’s newer rooms are known for. It’s an interesting choice for a game billed toward beginners, as a few puzzles may still stump newer players. Space is tight in some places, making it a better fit for small groups than large expeditions. Like many classic-style escape rooms, the story serves mainly as a setup. There’s little narrative evolution once you’re inside the tomb. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? One of Sauve Qui Peut’s earlier designs, "The Secret of Denderah" might not boast the jaw-dropping reveals, memorable puzzle design, or layered storytelling of their later creations, but it’s still a respectable relic of their creative evolution. For completionists or fans curious to trace the studio’s journey from humble sand dunes to full-blown showpieces, it’s worth a dig. The tactile, sequential puzzles make this adventure particularly fun for smaller groups, kids, or even a solo explorer ready to test their mettle against the mysteries of the past. So, dust off your explorer’s hat and get ready to unearth a bit of SQP history! No whip required. 🔎 HINT While we always advocate kindness to animals, you may need to be a bit more firm with the turtle than you expect. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO The lobby/waiting area where you check in also has lockers and seating. In this scenario, a traitor is assigned to the group by randomly picking a card before the game starts. The traitor is also given a specific task to complete. Knowing there would be sabotage involved, we immediately put our game face on. Beyond the puzzles, as you uncover clues, it's like you're delving into the stories of these gangster families. It was fascinating to learn a bit of "history" (whether real or fictional) about these characters. There was a puzzle that a teammate of ours solved, which we initially missed, that cleverly incorporated a prop in the room. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The set design appeared somewhat unrefined, with elements seemingly crowded into a single area. Introducing small rooms to represent each gangster house and separating out the investigation headquarter would enhance the experience and add an element of mystery that isn't immediately unveiled to the player. Our game flow wasn't optimal, likely due to time constraints and adjustments made by the owner, who removed certain puzzles to help us get through the game quicker. This led to some confusion regarding which puzzles were solved. Additionally, the owner's presence in the room didn't help with the immersion. Your experience may differ from ours for these reasons. The wording of the final puzzle was somewhat unclear, as the solution did not align with the clue's phrasing. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? We can't fully "rate" this room based on our experience, as we didn't have the real player version. The game is more enjoyable with larger amount of players, given the nature of the rat in play. The concept and storyline are highly innovative, but the puzzles need refinement to enhance the game flow. This game has significant potential, and as it's new, we anticipate that player feedback will help improve the flow over time. Compete against each other with synchronized start times. Each room features a variety of puzzles, including rebus, riddles, counting, and more. Solve a puzzle to earn a coin in the lock box. At the game's conclusion, the player with the most coins wins. Some puzzles are more challenging and may require additional time to solve. We recommend assigning these puzzles a higher coin value, as the current system appears unfair. As a player, I would naturally gear towards the easier puzzles first, and this strategy led to my victory against Brandon in this case. Furthermore, we propose enhancing the room's build quality by upgrading the props and lighting, which will undoubtedly create a more immersive experience for players. Given the iconic nature of Squid Game, it deserves additional features to elevate the adventure. Overall, it was fun and nerve-wracking to see your opponent solving puzzles right next to you and trying to beat him to it. Definitely give it a try, especially if you are competitive! Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The mystery of Voltiac and the secrets hidden in this alley captivated us from the start. We were impressed by the owners' unique creativity with this theme. The ending was unexpected, and we loved the twist. The set design was vibrant, yet there was an intriguing "darker" element lurking beneath. The creator masterfully captured the mystery aspect of the game's theme. There were several hidden reveals that took us by surprise. Our favorite moments occurred in the latter part of the game. The special effects and animatronics of a particular prop truly made the game stand out. Actively "assisting" a mechanism to work and eventually completing the mission was thrilling. We relished the sense of urgency towards the end of the game. It felt like a "do or die" scenario. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Overall, this is an excellent game. Our sole recommendation is for "search and find" scenarios: if something is overlooked or a solution is revealed but not discovered by players, it would be beneficial for the GM to provide a nudge, preventing unnecessary time loss during gameplay. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This adventure was a lot of fun, thanks to the mysterious storyline and the jaw-dropping final reveal! We were on the edge of our seats, completely surprised until the very end. If you're a fan of Sci-Fi and love a good investigative case, you're in for an amazing time in this room. The narrative was incredibly creative, waiting on a bench like tourists at an abandoned saloon site, waiting for the tour to begin. As soon as the story unfolded, the lights came on, signaling the start of the game. This was a lot immersive than to a typical TV introduction. This game is expertly designed for a divide and conquer strategy. We tackled different tasks from the outset, but the moment we had to collaborate on the items we collected to advance was seamlessly integrated with our progress. The game continually amazed us with the twists and turns of the set design. We did not foresee the latter part of the game at all. The misdirection was flawlessly executed, cleverly concealing the entrance to the next room. As we played, we also absorbed some history about old-time outlaws. The storyline was beautifully intertwined with the theme, and the props were perfectly aligned with it. There was a moment in the game where we were truly "wowed" by the transition, as the reveal with the sound and lighting caught us completely off guard. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK A particular prop proved challenging to maneuver, especially for considerate players. Placing the hint closer to or directly on the prop could effectively resolve this issue. We recommend replacing the non-functioning prop with something else if it cannot be repaired, or using it purely as decor while relocating the intended awarding item elsewhere, as it currently feels like an unearned freebie. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? We've played a ton of Western-themed rooms before, and this one is absolutely top-notch! Its unique storyline, combined with the surprising elements of the set design, amps up the mystery and makes uncovering the secrets behind the treasures left by the Serpents incredibly thrilling! The mini puzzles are a blast, making us feel like eager school students being tested on various subjects, only to find the reward is something we never expected. The story unfolds as you solve the puzzles, keeping you on your toes until the very end. Plus, the set design is so cinematic! It ties beautifully into the theme and pays off with an endgame reveal that left us amazed and grinning. Fantastic in-character performance: Our GM/actor nailed their performance: firm but never intimidating, robotic yet with flashes of humor. We also very much appreciated brief moments of leniency to keep us moving forward. Distinct futuristic aesthetic: The environment walks a fascinating line between sleek sci-fi and realistic nostalgia, like a mix of a futuristic facility, corporate training room, and retro-futurist dreamscape. Every surface and sound feels deliberate, creating an immersive, quirky “rehabilitation” atmosphere. Playful moments: Expect a few delightful surprises that shift the tone from sterile to silly at just the right moments. We love a room that can make you laugh, groove, and strategize all in the same sequence! 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Tablet troubles: We were provided a tablet to help track our progress and access additional info. However, we never found or used that extra content, and the steps for applying our saved work were sometimes unclear. Finicky Function: One challenge proved a bit too sensitive. It was sensitive enough that two players performing the same steps had different outcomes. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? "Project R.E.S.E.T." delivers an excellent blend of challenge, creativity, and immersion that shows why it earned a spot on the 2023 TERPECA Top Rooms list. Search skills matter, and the room rewards players who comb carefully and check assumptions. Memorable twists on classics: A few puzzles stand out for taking well-known mechanics and giving them a thematic remix. They’re not wildly complex, but they feel anchored in this world of covert experiments, classification systems, and procedural logic. Environment that commits: Even though the bleak, institutional aesthetic wasn’t personally my favorite, it is done well. Stark lighting, industrial textures, and utilitarian props sell the abandoned-research-facility atmosphere convincingly. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Old-school hint delivery: As with the other Red Door rooms we played, hints primarily appear via a simple button-and-text-screen system. It works, but in a sci-fi/psychic-research facility, a more thematic delivery could have amplified immersion. Ambiguous puzzle solve: One puzzle in particular suffered from multiple valid approaches, requiring trial-and-error before the intended solution was stumbled upon. A bit more signposting would reduce frustration. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? If you want a darker, more grounded environment without tipping into horror, Declassified fits the bill. The tone is grim but not gory, and institutional but not intimidating. No jump scares here. The gameplay leans more linear compared to the other Red Door rooms we played, but still has one primary space and a smaller area you access along the way. Expect a blend of traditional locks, a touch of tech, and puzzles that prioritize physical interaction and environmental observation. While the theme didn’t click for me personally, players who enjoy covert labs, psychic-experiment lore, or a moodier aesthetic will probably appreciate the commitment to the setting. Initially, we were unsure if the way the game commenced was in line with our expectations or if it was an intentional twist designed to catch us off guard. This moment of hesitation quickly transformed into an exhilarating realization that it was, indeed, a well-crafted "scare" moment, one that effectively set the tone for the thrilling adventure that lay ahead. Most of the clues given in this room was very clear as to which puzzle it's related to and the props that we needed to utilize. The props in the room undeniably reflected the passion of someone who truly enjoys collecting eerie and spine-chilling memorabilia. As we progressed through the game, we were met with a delightful and unexpected surprise in the latter part of the experience. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The props in this room are ideal for creating a haunted house atmosphere and can be effectively "animated" either manually or electronically to amplify the jump scares, perfectly complementing the horror theme of Annabel's story. At present, there is room for improvement in this area. It's important to mention that our experience was affected by music issues that day, so if you've had a different experience, we invite you to share it with us. One of the puzzles was very long and repetitive compared to the others in the room. We suggest shortening it and adding more variations of puzzles. There was a puzzle with multiple possible solutions due to the props we had to use. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This room feels like a beginner's space compared to "The Forgotten Feature" room we've experienced. It had more hidden objects that just needed to be discovered in order to unlock parts of the room. Most of the puzzles were straightforward, with the decoding puzzle taking the most time. In a large group, everyone would need to gather closely to tackle this puzzle for an extended period. Video above is property of Unreal Escapes 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Highly immersive set design: The USS New Jersey is the inspiration for this set, and the replication is highly detailed and well-researched. However, we never felt overwhelmed or confused by the environment. The challenges you face are replicas of the actual processes Navy sailors perform when faced with a battle situation, and you'll feel like you're really one of them. Satisfying puzzles: The puzzles themselves often involve multiple components and do a great job of blending the challenging 'figure it out' aspect of a great escape room with the joy that come with manipulating realistic objects in a set that transports you to the ocean, both visually and aurally. Accurate lighting, well implemented: A common flaw in ship-themed escape rooms is that the accuracy of the dim lighting makes the fundamental act of reading difficult. Not so here! The realistic lighting (supplemented by a few well-placed flashlights) was both true to form as well as being sufficient for frustration-free solving. Well-modulated tension: There is a cinematic element to this game, and our hearts were often pounding with the realistic intensity of our mission! Yet, they do a great job of maintaining the sense of urgency while also interspersing some calmer moments between those that are more immediately fraught with peril. Sound and light cues: Another way the design helped avoid the frustration that often comes with intricately designed sets was the thoughtful use of both lighting and sound cues to indicate when a puzzle had been completed or a hidden compartment had opened. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Triggers for adaptive difficulty: We're big fans of adaptive difficulty to make an experience rewarding for a wide variety of players, so we love that it's incorporated in this room. However, we didn't trigger the additional elements, despite finishing with 18 minutes to spare (without hints). Given that those extra components are already programmed into the game, it would make sense to trigger them at a lower threshold. Minor ambiguity: Overall, this a really well done room, but if we have to pick a few nits, there were a couple of elements that resulted in a bit of trial and error, which could be eliminated with a bit more signposting. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Battleship is a nearly watertight room with a lot to offer. The somewhat smaller confines and relatively linear gameplay make it ideal for smaller groups of dedicated escape artists. The combination of well-structured, challenging puzzles, a clear narrative, and highly immersive environment make it an appealing excursion for escape room fans with at least a little experience. I probably wouldn't recommend it as someone's first, but this would be an ideal opportunity to up skills and heart rate for those with a few under their belt, while also unlocking some unforgettable achievement badges. Then, through the fog, it appeared: a looming fortress frozen in time, its towers clawing at the clouds. The air grew heavy. The silence pressed close. And the castle waited…do you dare enter and uncover its secrets? 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE A feast for the senses: This game challenges you physically and mentally as it develops the narrative, all while you’re surrounded by beautiful, bespoke construction whose scope is befitting a castle! It truly is a well-rounded game. And everything here (set, props, puzzles) was locally designed and built, spotlighting both SQP’s remarkable skill and the work of talented local artists. Timeless design: The GM ensures everyone experiences the full story…no group left behind! So, with no visible clock and knowledge that hints will be offered if needed to keep you on pace, you can fully immerse yourself without time anxiety. Puzzles that satisfy: Completely lock-free, flawlessly functioning tech, and satisfying layers of logic and teamwork. One multi-part sequence in particular we really loved. Minimal searching (a relief for our scavenging-impaired selves). Lighting is beautifully integrated with the puzzles as well, subtly guiding your progress and helping to demarcate solves. The story can be told in English or French, but the puzzles themselves are language-free and accessible to all. Haunting, not horrifying: Expect tension and heart-pounding moments, but no gore, jump scares, or contact. The live actor adds depth, not fear, and is a strong narrative presence that elevates the experience. The darker moments are interspersed with moments of levity to keep the experience from feeling too dark and oppressive. Overall, this game can therefore appeal to a much broader set of folks. Perfect pacing: Narrative pauses are thoughtfully interwoven, giving space to absorb story beats before plunging back into the action. This sequencing, along with the knowledge we would be able to finish the game, meant we took in much more of the narrative than we often do and helped let the story land emotionally. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There’s not much to criticize with this experience, but a few considerations for some players: Color concerns: Multiple puzzles rely on color distinctions that might challenge some color-blind players, though they’ve received feedback that the selected colors are distinguishable (and the puzzles solvable) by the color-blind participants they’ve had. Physical considerations: While SQP is very intentional and safety-conscious, a particular aspect (which we loved!) could be tough for anyone with neck or back issues…mention it to your GM beforehand. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? A new must-play in the Montreal area, The Castle of Eternal Suffering elevates SQP’s design to new heights. It’s a masterclass in balance: pairing cinematic sets and emotional storytelling with thoughtful, satisfying puzzles and even a touch of physicality. (You’ll require mobility but not exceptional strength or athleticism to conquer these aspects; there’s a workaround for individuals to skip them if needed). Every detail feels intentional and smoothly delivered. While some of the world’s top TERPECA games lean heavily toward narrative or spectacle, this experience manages to keep its puzzle heart beating strong without losing an ounce of immersion. The story unfolds with gothic grandeur, yet never feels oppressive, and can be enjoyed by those who might choose to skip horror rooms. SQP’s “everyone finishes” approach feels like the future of the industry: it lets players savor the journey instead of racing the clock. The result is a game that feels more like an experience that lingers long after you’ve left the castle gates. So yes, brave adventurer, go forth and enter. This game is pretty popular with players, drawing inspiration from the highly acclaimed movie Texas Chain Saw Massacre. While it may not reach the film's horror intensity, it undoubtedly provides jump scares that surprise players during gameplay. Every game transports you to a different era, enhanced by a captivating performance from the GMs, and experiencing it firsthand is a must. Be sure to check out the "peculiar items" they've collected over the years. The ambience and lighting perfectly complement the game’s theme. The eerie darkroom, illuminated by a few dimly lit candles, sets the stage. Once "triggered", everything springs to life. We uncovered several exciting secret reveals as we solved puzzles. They felt like challenges from Dracula himself, ensuring that finding the tool to defeat him wouldn’t be easy. The final puzzle truly challenged us to "think outside the box" to complete it. We hadn’t encountered a puzzle like this before, making it an enjoyable challenge. The experience concluded with a gratifying ending. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK During the game, we inadvertently triggered something ahead of time. It appears that any magnet can activate that puzzle, which is an issue the escape room should address to prevent players from solving it prematurely. A puzzle later in the game lacked logical consistency with the positioning of the visual clues provided. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? If you're eager to challenge yourself with Dracula but feel hesitant due to being scared, this room is the perfect "initiation" for you. It exudes a supernatural vibe without overwhelming jump scares, allowing you to focus your energy on solving puzzles rather than watching for Dracula. The minimal storyline ensures your full attention is on deciphering the clues provided. Plus, you might even receive a little "help" in the game. Come out to play the game and you shall see...
