📖 THE STORY

It's the 19th century, and you've embarked upon the gold rush in the western frontier. There has been a robbery aboard the transcontinental railway which carries massive shipments and transports millions of dollars of Gold from California to Washington, DC. The criminals made off with over $6M into the mountains. Because the precision of how the heist was executed and the necessity of the powerful weapon required to perform, this has now become a matter of national security. You are part of a team called the Pinkerton National Detective Agency and your mission is to find the thieves, retrieve the gold, and investigate the nature of the secret weapon that they used during the heist.

🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE

  • "Train Robbery" was quite generous in terms of space usage! It actually feels like you've stepped inside of a real saloon from back in the 19th century. There's a full bar w/ stools, roulette table, piano, card game table, and a stage! The set design took into consideration all of the things that you would find inside this type of establishment. You can tell the creators took time to find these authentic pieces. I had to keep reminding myself that we were on the clock because there were a couple of times that I was ready to hop on a stool and order an "Old Fashioned"!

  • In regards to the puzzles, there was so many variations of physical and logic puzzles. There's some clever ways in which the maglocks were used to reveal surprises that we've encountered throughout the room. I really felt that detective vibe since the objective was quite clear and each puzzle that we solved gave us another piece of the mystery. Ultimately it felt like a deduction game mixed with a strong narrative.

  • Since we started playing escape rooms back in 2018, storylines and themes have become extremely repetitive. We've played a good amount of western saloon-type games and usually involve a bandit heist or "find the gold" storyline objective. Don't let the title - "Train Robbery" fool you because it is so much more than that! The plot twist was definitely unexpected and one of my favorite parts about this game.

🧩 MISSED THE MARK

  • There isn't much to criticize about "Train Robbery" since it was a really solid game. The only thing that we could suggest is if the door to the entrance of the saloon could also be designed to fit the theme? Perhaps adding another puzzle to having us figure out how to get into the saloon (maybe with a secret code or knock) would be a cool addition to add on to the already very immersed room.

🏹 TAKE A SHOT?

Cyber Raccoon Escape Room Fairfax, DC is one of those companies that you hear really amazing things about and when you finally get to play the game, it actually lives up to the hype! "Train Robbery" is an escape room built around a strong narrative (which is pretty rare to see) but also paired with awesome puzzles. There were so many different types of obstacles to overcome that it felt like you became a character in the story once you entered that room. Nothing is typical in this room and we're glad that we had a chance to draw our own conclusions and witness first hand what everyone else was raving about!
