Tonight, it is the Day of the Dead and amongst the festivities, music and colour, lies a legendary challenge: the chance to be reborn. Have you got what it takes to lead a skeleton crew of expert thieves into the most heavily guarded building in the whole underworld? For one night only, the walls between the real world and the afterlife have come down and the greatest prize of them all sits inside a secure vault somewhere inside the palace, waiting to be taken by someone bold enough to try.

"Day of The Dead" is a Print-n-Play game designed by Escape Hunt. In order to play this game, you will need a printer, a scissors, a pen/pencil and a device with internet access. Compared to their other games, using a device with internet access is just if you need clues, a music background and to key in your final answer. There are no clues on the website that are relevant to puzzle solving. Day of The Dead is a linear game where you solve the puzzles one at a time until the final puzzle which is to unlock the vault. Not all puzzles need to be printed, but there will be some physical manipulation and cutting involved for some puzzles.

The puzzles were more difficult than "Robot Rescue" which is another print-n-play game by them, but still not too difficult for experience players. Enthusiasts might not need any hints as most puzzles are quite straightforward (though you will need to think out of the box a little more). There was a good amount of variations of puzzles, especially one which I found to be exceptionally creative and I truly loved it when I discovered what we were supposed to do.

One weakness I felt in this game was that the puzzles felt like fillers. What I meant is that, you don't actually need to solve these puzzles to complete the whole game. For example, the instruction might say "do not flip this page until you have XXXXX", however, it doesn't prevent players from actually skipping it. The final puzzle is on its own, without needing any prior answers. I would prefer if they did something like Robot Rescue, where they made a meta puzzle in which you need the solutions for previous puzzles. I understand that players will generally not skip everything and go straight to the last puzzle anyway, but it will be good to have a sense of accomplishment, solving each puzzle one by one, and knowing it will help in my final objective. Imagine you enter an escape room, where they say "you can choose to solve the final puzzle anytime but please solve the rest beforehand".

As usual, Escape Hunt kept up with their high standard in creating a colourful pack for their audience. I would say this game overall has some nice touches and will be suitable for older children/teenagers rather than puzzle enthusiasts. For puzzle lovers, this game is still worth to try due to the creative ways these common puzzles have been tweaked. However, for those looking for a brain workout, there are other selections that are harder in difficulty level in the Escape Hunt "Print-n-Cut" series.
