Welcome to New Orleans, young detective - Home to the DeLaporte family and their many mysteries. Bertram DeLaporte, perhaps the best magician in the city, has disappeared. His brother, Remy DeLaporte, is renowned in the world of Science and Invention, and has in turn, gone reclusive. From the coded journal and blueprints left behind, help Crescent City Cases identify the DeLaporte brothers’ successful prototype and recreate it to have it run as intended. Be careful though, numerous assistants to the DeLaportes have disappeared with previous prototypes and you do not want to be next on the list.

While the game materials can be printed for easier reference, all files are stored on the Crescent City Cases membership portal (www.crescentcitycases.com) and you progress the game by answering an embedded Google Form correctly. Hints are found in a specific file in this case folder, to be referred to at our own discretion.

And just to note, your game materials here may also be referred to as inventory or case materials, detective.

I loved the simplicity and clarity of this game - to answer the needed questions based on the materials given. However, I felt that gameplay could be smoother if there was an instruction either in the opening or portal itself directing players to the embedded Google Form at the bottom of the case folder page - some of us got a little confused at our next steps after getting past the first stage of puzzles.

Puzzles of this episode were mostly logic puzzles. Being a bit of a cipher geek, I was excited to dive into this. However, if your cipher knowledge is not up to speed, fret not! There is help. Do read the instructions and get clear on what is needed to progress the story, it can get very easy to be whisked away into the puzzles and forget about your mission. Or that you have more materials to gain clues from.

Crescent City Cases is a multi-chapter, digital platform that features different episodes centered around New Orleans. If you are interested in deductive puzzles, science and magic, or are just a cipher geek, this first episode - available as a free trial of the Crescent City Cases - can be a great appetiser before you dive into the main course.
