📖 THE STORY

An incredibly dangerous and adaptable alien specimen has escaped its containment within this government facility. You need to get in and lockdown the facility before the government takes drastic, nuclear measures to remove the threat - in just 60 minutes!

🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE

  • The game doesn’t take itself too seriously, and you’ll enjoy all kinds of alien visitors along the way - I even got attacked! Beware…

  • While there are quite a few traditional locks in the game, they come in many varieties and we rarely questioned which code matched which one.

  • There are several rewarding tech integrations in the game, which enhance the ambience and also contribute to gameplay.

  • We particularly enjoyed a few of the highly tactile puzzles, and one interesting prop we hadn’t seen before!

  • The decor is comprehensive and befitting of a top-secret government facility, making for an immersive experience.

🧩 MISSED THE MARK

  • There was one tech item that is a cool gadget that works in the theme and was part of my favorite puzzle, but it was quite fiddly and we were delayed for a few minutes trying to get it to work.

  • While there is some tech in the room, it relies heavily on traditional locks of various flavors, many of which were very close to the floor and a bit awkward. An additional flashlight would have been handy for some of these as well!

  • This is currently their oldest game, and there is some evident wear on some of the locks and props - though this didn’t detract much from actual gameplay.

🏹 TAKE A SHOT?

"Area 51" is a fun, family-friendly game with some surprises - both silly and cool. While it has the lowest success rate of their current rooms, it also has fewer puzzles, so enthusiasts (who may find them more approachable) may get through it a little faster. Though, we definitely experienced part of the “curse of the enthusiast” - making some assumptions about how things would play out that were incorrect. A good reminder to pay attention and keep an open mind to avoid jumping to erroneous conclusions. If you only play one game at Escape Room 60, we would still recommend "Vermonsters" for its unique local flavor, but Area 51 makes a great additional room if you have time!

ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO

There is a bathroom available and a lobby with seating. They are located in a shopping plaza-type area with a reasonable amount of free parking available in the lot. There are restaurants and a green nearby for grabbing grub and relaxing after you're finished or fueling before you start.
