📖 THE STORY

You’ve come upon a mysterious message in a bottle, leading you to a remote, volcanic island in the Pacific in search of answers and treasure! Your circling chopper pilot has about an hour's worth of fuel, and the volcano looks like it could erupt any minute. Can you find Blackscar’s treasure and escape before the pilot turns back or the volcano erupts?

🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE

  • This room features a cute and thematic character that serves as your hint system. This allows folx to get hints without being drawn out of the world (and interacting with a character can feel easier and more entertaining than asking a GM for a hint), making for a more fun and immersive experience.

  • The whole game is family-friendly and has a sense of playfulness. We loved all the monkeys and that their mischievousness is the rationale for everything being locked up. (You can even buy a monkey stuffie as some adorable swag.)

  • Walking into the game made me feel a bit like I’d just made it to a tropical vacation destination somewhere…quite refreshing (and I’m sure even more so had we played in the middle of winter).

  • There were a few experiential moments that were a bit more unusual, including a rewarding end of game bit that was fun, a little silly, and prompted a thematic finish.

  • We noticed several Easter eggs in the game that are nods to other notable island adventures (and who knows what we may have missed!). They added cute little moments of recognition and potential fandom. (Krista is a big fan of one of them!)

  • There are many traditional locks in the game, but they are highly varied in type, and we almost never had to wonder which lock a specific answer or key should go with.

🧩 MISSED THE MARK

  • While we very much appreciated the character used for hints, groups like us who don’t require hints may wish they got to interact more. While not really a “Missed the Mark”, there’s certainly an opportunity here to augment the character’s role with additional commentary (encouragement, gentle ribbing, story beats, etc.) that all groups can enjoy.

  • There was one ghost puzzle remnant from something that has been removed, with the leftovers being perhaps a slight red herring. We definitely expected them to come into play at some point!

  • This game has more of a backstory, rather than narrative progression. But we still found ourselves a bit confused as to how several different elements fit together, why things happened the way they did or resulted in things being left in the way we encountered them. A little clarification and justification might make everything feel a bit more cohesive.

🏹 TAKE A SHOT?

"The Treasure of Tiki Island" is very approachable for beginners and cutely themed for families! The hint system is well developed (and cute!), and the fairly linear nature makes it relatively clear what to work on next. It’s a more traditional game that won't pose a huge challenge to seasoned veterans but it is a lot of fun, making it a good option if bringing someone new. So next time you feel like a tropical getaway (with some puzzling, of course) without the vacation pricetag, head to Escape Room 60 to seek old Blackscar’s treasure…

ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO

There is a bathroom available and a lobby with seating. They are located in a shopping plaza-type area with a reasonable amount of free parking available in the lot. There are restaurants and a green nearby for grabbing grub and relaxing after you're finished or fueling before you start. We’ve always found their staff very friendly, helpful, and enthusiastic (big shoutout to their manager, Turner)!
