It was the year 1952. Seven members had left for an expedition on Mount Everest and never returned. One of them was your father. In recent years, our agency developed a technology that can send you back in time. Maybe you can find out what had happened to the team? Was it really the mysterious Yeti or was something else entirely?

This is a point-n-click game build using the Telescape system. When your entire team joins into the interface, one person will press the "start" button. The game will be synced so whatever one player does, it'll reflect in every player's interface. We really enjoyed the cinematic video at the beginning and the end as it gave us an overview of the storyline.

Hotspots were installed on objects on high-res images. Lock symbols means that you can click on them to further examine the items. Some had clues on it and others told us how many digits or letters we would need in order to open the lock. Some items were also interactive where we would be able to rotate, piece together or simply place in the right position.

After the intro video, you'll also get a quick tutorial on game play. If you get stuck, there's a hint system that's build into the game.

There were a good amount of areas that we're able to explore in the interface. The puzzles were spread out in these areas. At times, we would have to return from one area to another. It felt very escape room like. This gave our players a chance to "divide and conquer" and each of us had a chance to solve some puzzles on our own. Some puzzles were really creative and connected the Mount Everest environment with some tools that you might see on an expedition. One of the puzzles utilized the yeti and that was our favorite. It was a multi-step puzzle that we had to collaborate as a team. Having good communication is very important for these types of games so make sure to always keep your team updated on your progress. There were some audio components in the game as well so it's best if you're able to wear headphones for this game.

The puzzles were not too difficult for enthusiast but for new players you might have to get use to the "combo" method and also where to enter the combo words. For instance if you saw a "key" and a "locked door", you'll need to combine the words in the input box on the top left area in order for something to "open". This was a great method to not giveaway answers where players might be able to just make a guess. You'll actually need to remember what you've seen before and think about what items you can use as a pair.

Since Escape The Crate's bread and butter is box subscription games, we weren't sure how they will design a digital game. We were really pleased with the quality of the graphics, interface utilization and puzzles. The added background music and alert sounds whenever a player did something paired nicely with the team (except one of our players jumped every time when an alert sound happened haha). As enthusiasts, we finished the game in 34 minutes time but were truly entertained the entire time. This game definitely left us wanting more digital experiences from Escape The Crate. We do have a little "insider news" for you. The creator said that they'll be making more of them! For the game boxes that they will not or cannot bring back as physical boxes, they'll be making them into digital games instead!

This Telescape based experience was a new venture for this company I believe - and they have really gone all out to provide an entertaining storyline, animated videos and exciting graphics!

The gameplay follows as you explore a frozen tundra looking for some lost expedition members, can you interpret their research and help save them?!

The game uses video to introduce the scenario and give you very good, detailed instructions which were appreciated. The first few scenes are an orientation exercise which allow you to get used to the interface, inventory and a few basic puzzles. One of these told us to turn on the lights, but I'm not sure we ever actually did that, amongst any of our tasks!

The telescape environment is well used, with various scenes to move between. I often berate this type of game though because one person can be off finding items and solving puzzles and you really have to communicate, as if you come across the same puzzle it's often hard to know if it has already been solved.

After certain solves/finds a video would auto play, meaning if you were in the middle of something it is a sudden shock. The sound chosen as a confirmation is also quite loud and harsh, and genuinely gave me a scare a few times!

That said, the game was interesting, fun and some nice puzzles to tackle, one of which worked really well with three of us as we all had some different information from different locations to share to solve it. Some of the puzzles rely on audio, so make sure you have sound turned on. Some of the drag and drop style puzzles had very sensitive drop areas, meaning that they were a bit fiddly to get right - so if you think you have the right answer, just persevere!

All in all a very good and entertaining game with a fun theme!
