Expedition Escape! has always been one of our favorite physical escape room locations. Their "Lucky Dice Diner" was rated one of our Top Rated Rooms in 2019. The owners are both escape room enthusiasts and have played hundreds of escape rooms. It really shows in their products when they put their passion into it. Magic themed rooms has always been one of my favorites, so we're very excited to check out "Houdini's Last Mystery".

When you purchase the game, there are a few steps to go through. Since this game was produced in collaboration with another escape room writer, in some areas there will be restrictions due to licensing. You'll have to wait until you've been vetted before the game will be emailed to you. Also there are two different version of this game that you can chose from. One is with Ouija board and tarot cards and the other version will replace these items with symbols and shapes. The puzzles are essentially the same but this is provided in case you're uncomfortable with these items.

The game was staged in the Houdini Museum. This is a point and click type of game. We liked how the game only allowed access to items that we had to use with a certain puzzle. Once we solved the puzzle and unlocked the item, a new area would open up for exploration. This made correlation of puzzles and clues quite easy to detect. The puzzles were not as difficult for enthusiasts and had a nice linear flow. But if you do get stuck, there was a easy to use self guided hint system throughout the game. There were a lot of interesting facts about Houdini that were embedded in the game and puzzles. We learned a lot of history about him that we're previously unaware of.

For the time being, we enjoyed virtually opening the locks at the Houdini Museum but can't wait to return to their physical location and make some real magic there!

If you want to try out their product and see how digital games work, they do have free game that you are able to test out: Bank Heist

(If you do decide to try this game, please remember to let them know that you heard it from"ESCAPETHEROOMers"!)

Disclosure: We thank Expedition Escape! for providing us with a sample of the game. Although a complimentary experience was generously provided, it does not impact our opinion on the review whatsoever.
