📖 THE STORY

Your best friend Alan Parrish has mysteriously disappeared. Alan always had a fascination with the attic, talking about the strange jungle drum sounds which would lure him to it. It is because of these strange stories that you think to start your search for him there. Perhaps you can find something that his parents couldn’t?

🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE

  • The game design blends and utilizes different special effects masterfully to create an immersive experience. It’s not just light and sound that achieve this, but other affects too, such as running water and hidden tech.

  • In addition to the affects, Jumanji is beautifully constructed using high quality materials that offer authenticity to your journey. A journey, which is taken in stages, building, until you finally enter the jungles of Jumanji. We had a lot of fun making these transitions and applaud their creativity.

  • Like the thoughtful decorative touches and prop placement, the same can be said for the puzzles. Each one relates to the story and theme, as well as making perfect sense logically. The puzzles are all tech driven and varied in the tasks they want us to complete. We felt that the difficulty and style will keep children as interested as adults because of how interactive and dynamic they are.

  • Our favourite aspect was being able to utilize the Jeep, not only because of the novelty, but also because the overall challenge had layers to it which required team work to complete.

🧩 MISSED THE MARK

  • Although the plot starts really strong and carries momentum for the majority of the game, we felt the actual ending was quite forgetful and wished there was more emphasis on concluding Alan’s story.

  • For easily over five minutes at one point in the game we stood around in frustration, not knowing why the next puzzle hadn’t revealed itself. It turns out that one object was not entirely on its sensor, which was not evident to us. We didn’t even realize at the time that this was part of a puzzle and it was only by pure chance that someone picked the piece back up just to look at it, not thinking that it was part of the puzzle we were aiming to complete. Once he placed the item back down, luckily in the right place, we were able to advance in the game, but ultimately, we had no idea why until the end of the game when we were able to ask the GM. Ultimately, we were able to laugh about it after the fact, but at the time we stood for many minutes feeling nothing but frustration and bewilderment. Perhaps more forgiving sensors or an intervention from the GM could have prevented this.

🏹 TAKE A SHOT?

Of the four Jumanji rooms that I have played to date, this has to be my favourite. The immersion is full on, with a creative path to gaining entry into Jumanji itself and some cool special effects. We think the game will appeal to both families and adults alike, especially those who like dynamic and interactive gameplay.
