The packaging was smaller in size than the first game we played "Harmony Ashcroft". I'm not sure if it's just this game or if the company went through repackaging. It's lighter to carry around now as we actually bought the game on the trip with us. The game content was packaged in a plastic "evidence bag". Make sure to check the "inventory" list for any missing items. In this game, we received letters, photos, notepad, reports, business cards and three bonus envelopes.

Other than the reading materials, you'll need access to the internet. Some important clues can be found on various website. You'll also need to go to their website portal to eliminate suspects and ultimately figure out who is the real killer. It was quite easy to find the information and string together the evidences based on the information provided. There are three segments to the game. Once you answer one question correct, you'll gain access to one of the sealed envelopes. The final ones gives you a summary and motive to the real killer so don't open it until it's the right now to avoid spoilers.

There's not much puzzle per se in this game. It's more of using what you know to deduce who couldn't have been the perpetrator. There was a good amount of reading involved since just like a real life crime, there'll be information on suspects, their background check, their motives and etc...We took notes just like how a real detective would on a whiteboard type of set up. This way we're able to make the connection between each of the suspect to the victim and if there were any confirmed alibi that was able to rule them out. Sometimes the evidence was right in front of ours and other times they were hidden within photos and text.

We always enjoy the storytelling from Unsolved Case Files. You can always expect a twist at the end. Most of the time we'll be guessing who is the killer going to be right from the start only to find out that person has been eliminated due to the alibis. It's always the one that's the least expected right?

One thing that this game differs from other murder mystery games we've played is the fact that they're not so concentrated on puzzle variation. You wouldn't encounter secret messages you'll need to unscramble or decode. It's very straightforward and mimics the real world situations. There are personalized websites for almost every person that's mentioned in the game and if you didn't know they were part of the game, you would think they were legitimate sites. Unsolved Case Files really presented a chance for a player to make their detective dream come true. So if you're a hardcore CSI or Criminal Minds fan, you might want to test your case solving skills here!
