  • REMOTE: Conundrum Escape Rooms - "Dead Man's Secret"

Photo above is property of Conundrum Escape Rooms Company: Conundrum Escape Rooms Game: Dead Man's Secret Country: USA ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Language: English Type of Game: Remote Escape Room ๐Ÿ—ฃ Genre: Mystery Date Played: June 19, 2020 Difficulty (based on 5 players): 7/10 Size of Team: 2-4 Players (Recommended) Time: 90 Minutes Price: $75/Team Video above is property of Conundrum Escape Rooms We had a chance to enter the billionaire Conan Drum's house after his passing. Rumor has it, he's hidden his entire fortune in here and we needed to find it before anyone else does! Of course we had to gather a team of the smartest puzzle people (6 total) for this job. We entered a room that seemed to be Conan's office. Our avatar, Joe, gave us a thorough tour of the room and then our journey began. The room seemed small at first and doesn't seem like there was much to do. We were surprised about how much was unveiled as we started to solve the puzzles one by one. There was one particular prop that had many "secrets". Every time we thought we were done with it, a new discovery would pop up. In some of the other remote escape rooms we've played, we felt that the inventory portal wasn't really necessary but we felt that this room could definitely use one. During the game, we noticed there were a few clues that had a good amount of writing that would require us to refer back and forth to it. Since we had a team of six, it was difficult to manage if everyone was able to read through it with the same speed or record it accurately. I took some photos on my phone (deleted them right after the game) and used that method and was able to play through the game smoothly. Some of our teammates didn't and kept having to ask Jon to refer back to the clue paper. This delayed our play as a group. We didn't mind it as much in this game since we had 90 minutes. The puzzles were very innovative and we enjoyed them throughout the game. One felt a bit too slow for the remote experience since we were mostly watching the avatar repeat the action several times. As an enthusiasts group, we finished the game in 1 hour and 6 minutes. It definitely had some challenging puzzles but who said finding a billionaire's entire fortune was going to be easy? Are you up for the challenge? • REMOTE: Locked In Escapes - "The Infected"

Photo above is property of Locked In Escapes Company: Locked In Escapes Game: The Infected Country: USA ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Language: English Type of Game: Remote Escape Room ๐Ÿ—ฃ Genre: Thriller Date Played: June 22, 2020 Difficulty (based on 5 players): 7/10 Size of Team: 1-6 Players Time: 60 Minutes Price: $49.95/ Team London needs our help! It seems like the people in the city have developed a mysterious illness where green rashes are spreading on their bodies at an alarming rate. Currently there are no cure but one day our colleague's family member contacted us and informed us that her brother has been MIA for awhile now. Perhaps he found a cure? We hope to find something useful at his home... The game started with a nice intro story from our avatar Dawn. She explained that we needed to rescue her brother who she believed to have contracted the virus. Dawn was appropriately dressed like she was from the 1800s. She was in character from the beginning. As we entered into what seemed to be a beautiful Victorian styled living room, we started our search immediately. A 360 view of the room was provided on a separate link. This was very helpful when it came to navigating the room. Don't be fooled by the space of the first area, you'll have plenty to do. Since you will not be able to zoom in to certain locations on the 360 view, you'll still need to rely on the avatar to show you some close ups. The clues does require a bit of "search and find" so definitely have your avatar do a thorough sweep of the room. Dawn did a great job at giving us some subtle "camera hints". She also was great at explaining the story line as she was discovering items in the room. This helped us connect all the dots together and made the ending very clear. The puzzles were mostly linear so we had to do them together one by one as a group. We still had about 5 minutes left on the clock when we escaped. This was definitely one of our favorite set design rooms in the remote escape room category. It had a nice transition moment and all the props fit nicely with the theme. We had a lot of fun interacting with Dawn and perhaps with our suggestion, you may even get a more surprising ending when you play! The story line fit quite well with what's going on in the world right now. It felt nice to be able to save Dawn's brother at the end and we hope that the world will be able to find the cure to this pandemic soon. But for now at least we can all be heroes in the virtual world! What kind of sorcery and mystery is happening in there? To prove yourself worthy, you must harness all 5 elemental runes in 60 minutes. Are you up for the challenge? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐ŸŽฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE The set design was absolutely stunning. From magical walls that lit up to sounds of spells echoing around us, we literally felt like we were in a scene in Harry Potter. Props like magical wands, caldrons and even peculiar creatures all added value to the immersion factor. The concept of having players actually make a spell with the wands really involved us into the storyline. We loved the discovery of the unexpected secret passageway. The hint system was given by the wizard rather than speaking with the GM directly. There was a cool way that the room made us feel like we've switched from one realm to another. ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK There was a puzzle that we had to use a magnet but the magnet felt too weak and was hard to maneuver the object. There was a visual puzzle that we are still confused on how the solution came about from those clues. An intro letter would be more helpful in this game rather than the GM explaining the game's rules. We didn't quite understand the rules when our GM explained it to us so we lost quite a bit of time at the beginning not knowing what to do. In this game, some reactions were manually triggered by the GM. It's very important that they pay attention to what we do at all times. There were several delays in the game and we thought we did something wrong only to realize later it was not because of us. There was a book that provided too much information. The room was played in dim lighting so these red herrings really was unnecessary. We had some reset issues with this room as one of the object was able to be taken out at the beginning but it was actually the item that was supposed to come out as a victory item all the way at the end. Also a cryptex was opened at the beginning that wasn't supposed to and messed up our game flow. Inputting letters into the cryptex was quite a challenge in the dim room. We suggest adding a wand that has a light at the tip to help players see better. The final puzzle was really difficult. I would suggest either giving the player a "pause" button or just a shortened version. The replay time is too long. ๐Ÿน TAKE A SHOT? The set design grasped my attention right away. I was very excited to explore this beautiful tower. Unfortunately there were some reset issues and we didn't have the best experience with the game master. We always say a GM can make or break a game and this is definitely one of those incidences. So we're unsure how fair we can be with this review as you might have a different experience than us. We do see the potential in this room after tweaking some of the "miss the mark" items. After playing the three games at their Loveland location, I can safely say that Time Emporium Escape Rooms is definitely doing something right. Could they be related? Maybe you can find the evidence that the police may have missed! Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐ŸŽฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE Wow to the set design! We started out our investigation under the starry lights of a dimly lit alleyway. Right in front of us is the iconic red phonebooth. As we walked down the alleyway, we could feel the eeriness like someone's been following us. Certain narratives were build into the game that didn't use live actors but achieved the same effect. There was an unanticipated way of "entering" that made us connect more to our character in the story. ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK Usually when the GM tells us the intro story we would listen for the basic ideas but there were actually information that we needed this time for a puzzle. I would suggest having an intro letter in the room as well if that's the case just in case they didn't understand the GM clearly or pay attention to all the details. Hints by the GM were too vague (we found a key and they said "if you found it, you can use it." But later we found out this key was just a prop amongst others that we found and we did not actually have to be used with a lock) and didn't really help us when we requested for further explanation. Also we were unsure if the GM was paying attention to us as we had to repeat ourselves and they didn't seem to know where we were stuck. We were going in as investigators. It would be helpful if a notepad could be provided. There were information that we had to sort out and I didn't think "memory" was the goal of the puzzle challenge. The GM yelled at us when we tried to take notes on the phone but they didn't specify that this was not allowed at the beginning. One of the depictions of a location was a bit off in our opinion. ๐Ÿน TAKE A SHOT? Murder mystery has always been one of my favorite genres. This room's dรฉcor definitely set the tone right from the start. In terms of puzzles, it's mostly linear with all tech. Unfortunately we didn't have the best experience with the game master. We always say a GM can make or break a game and this is definitely one of those incidences. So we're unsure how fair we can be with this review as you might have a different experience than us. All you have to do is venture into his crypt and drive a stake through his heart. I hope you chose the right teammates because some just might bite back... Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐ŸŽฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE What a cool concept! We've actually never played an escape room like this. We each had to choose a character card. These character cards could have negative or positive powers (it so happened I chose a positive one and Brandon chose a negative one). These cards are picked at random by yourselves. The cards have different types of powers in the room. For instance, a positive card might give you more light, more time and free hints whereas a negative one might do the opposite. When you solve a puzzle, you can choose which card you want to activate. Activating a negative card will cure your teammate and take away the negative effect. Activating a positive card will gain you that extra help that you need. You can only activate cards whenever you finish solving a puzzle. I can't believe this room is automated as well with all of these added elements. The lights, time and other special effects could be altered as the game is played so every experience will be unique to your group. This company is amazing at set design. Out of the three 30 minute games, this set design was my favorite. There's a part in the game (I don't want to spoil it for you) where the creator utilized every space they can think of in order to create an added visual to enhance the crypt feel. ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK One of the special effects is for you to be able to skip a puzzle so with luck and more people in the group, you might be able to skip a lot of puzzles. So to avoid this issue, they are adding more. During the time we played, they were installing a new puzzle but it wasn't complete yet which confused our game play. ๐Ÿน TAKE A SHOT? Staked! A vampire Tale is their newest room. This is also our favorite room out of the three. From set design to puzzle variations to player's involvement to special effects, it had it all. And they did it in 30 minutes too! I would have loved to play an entire hour though. It definitely has potential to expand into a bigger space and storyline. For us, we love the concept of assigning a role to the players. It gives the players opportunities to role play while solving puzzles which adds more immersion to the experience. Rumor has it, a little girl vanished in this very room. No one has gotten out after they checked in. Are you brave enough to stay? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐ŸŽฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE Big props to the set design. At first glance, I was wary about going inside. It definitely felt haunted. Great way to use the darkness. Besides the static on the TV and a little glimpse of the creepy bed, that's all we were able to see. The way the jump scares were triggered was very clever. I loved that it was not just a loud sound or something dropped. It actually included the storyline. The tech ran really smoothly in this game. The creator also knew exactly when to gather people at what spot so that they all could experience the "screaming" moments together. ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK We really enjoyed this room. The only complaint is that it felt too short. We were able to escape in 15 minutes (but we blame that on the fact that we've played 750+ rooms by now and have seen similar puzzles). I definitely wouldn't mind a late check out from this room. ๐Ÿน TAKE A SHOT? The design of the room was ingenious as at times you might need to accomplish tasks on your own but at times you might have to be together to experience. The lighting was perfect as the pitch dark atmosphere gave you that feeling of the "unknown" but a bright light might attract you to it to reveal something. This room's puzzles were quite easy but the main focus was on the immersion. If you can't conquer your fear then it'll take you much longer to solve the puzzles than another group. This might be why some people made it out and some are stuck in there forever. Which group will you be? You must prove your innocence by finding the killer, murder weapon and location of where the murder happened in his mansion. Or else the police will arrest you in an hour! Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMer ๐ŸŽฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE This room was filled with hidden clues, objects, buttons and more! We really felt like we were solving a mystery. The dรฉcor perfectly depicted a Victorian style home. It really was like the board game Clue but just transformed into a real life escape room! There was an automated hint system that worked really well. It knows exactly where we got stuck and gave clear hints on what to do next. This took away the issue of GM's response time and also played into the story. The ending was conclusive and even though it is only a 30 minute game, it felt really fulfilling. ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK There was a clue that will not repeat again if you missed it. You'll need to ask the GM to replay it. It would be great if we had a button to do so on our own in the room. Some triggers were delayed not sure if it was because we were solving things simultaneously? ๐Ÿน TAKE A SHOT? It's rare that we get a chance to play a 30 minute escape room. We didn't know what to expect. I have to say, it felt just right. The creator really thought about the storyline and packed a lot into this half hour experience. This game was very different than a typical escape room concept. By solving the puzzles, we would be rewarded with items that we would use later in the elimination process. The search and find was mainly to find clues and not really objects. Our recommendation is to touch and move everything. You never know what you might trigger. And when it does, it will feel like those moments in a movie where a statue opens up a door. Trust me, you will definitely have your Nancy Drew or Velma Dinkley moment! One where top scientists get positioned to discern the mysteries and creation of the earth. A couple of days ago, we received word that an 800,000 year old ice core sample has been excavated. Now we received the urgent message that a backup team is needed, the base has lost all power and the ground team is unresponsive. The sample started to melt and contained within it, a deadly virus! Your mission is to travel to the Antarctic station and refreeze it before the virus spreads to the whole of humanity. Failure to do so...well who knows what could happen. ๐ŸŽฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE The beginning of this game is brilliant! Traveling to the base in the bottom of the earth would be no easy feat and Rabbit Hole Recreation Services reproduces the trials and tribulations that one might expect. Picture a research station in the middle of the arctic (something like the movie "The Thing"). When your team finally arrives and notices that the power is out it looks ominous and accurate to what you would expect. There are stations for lab testing, engineering, and a power station that all need to be turned on before refreezing the core sample. Be prepared for a long list of puzzles and procedures in order to save humanity (It wouldnโ€™t be that easy would it?) We love the designs of some of the tools used in this game. It made the mission feel realistic and solving the puzzles satisfying. While there are puzzles in Frost Base Z, all of the actions taken felt synced with the storyline that our team truly did feel like a rescue brigade sent in to help solve these problems. As an enthusiast I appreciate the subversion of expectations in this room. On first read it sounds as though the team will be stopping a zombie virus and you have to create an antidote. The steps throughout the game, though, make it clear that this is a rescue mission and there are no โ€œzombiesโ€ within the game. ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK This is not an easy room. There are lots of procedures that your team needs to perform in order to make the base operational. One might feel that there's a good amount of extraneous information to sift through which for less experienced players could be thought of as red herrings. ๐Ÿน TAKE A SHOT? Rabbit Hole Recreation Services operates three games at their venue in Louisville CO as of Dec 2021. I have played two of them and this was my favorite. The other game, however; was just as high quality. They have succeeded in creating a game that immerses guests and creates a playable challenge. The beginning of the game excites and gets your team ready for the adventure to come. It was something that didnโ€™t need to be in the game but their inclusion of the activity makes the game unforgettable. If it isnโ€™t clear by now, I highly recommend Frost Base Z and hopefully you too will save humanity before the ice core melts. โ„น๏ธ ADDITIONAL INFO Free Parking, lobby area, extra add-ons to game if wanted, some crawling required. But you are running out of time as a huge storm is coming in one hour. You'll need all the power that you can harness from it in order to power up the machine and escape through time. Are you up for the job? ๐ŸŽฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE I loved the design of this game which starts you off with what looks to be an ordinary architect's office, but as "time" progresses and you figure out how to proceed, a "wow" moment reveals itself right in front of your eyes. Don't spend too much time in the first room, there's a lot that has to be done in the latter part of this game. This game has a lot of task-based puzzles. It really encourages teamwork, but you can also work on various puzzles in a non-linear way. As a two-person team, we opted to do most of the puzzles together which did bring that urgency feel towards the end as we were pressed for time. Each task that we completed had a clear indication on the time machine which really made us feel like we were powering up the mechanism. The set design for the centerpiece was amazing. It literally was the "brain" of the time machine and it serves as a location to bring you team together. We were impressed by one the props and the ingenious design. It was actually temperature controlled which we rarely see in escape rooms. The finale was a great way to conclude the room and round up the storyline. ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK I'm not sure how we skipped a puzzle that needed decoding, but we were still able to figure out the solution. Not sure if there's a way to enforce the players to have to solve that puzzle? ๐Ÿน TAKE A SHOT? We played both "Frost Base Z" and this game at Rabbit Hole Recreation Services and it's really hard to pick a favorite between the two. Both games were strong in narrative, set design and puzzles. "Paradox | The Incredible Time Machine" was slightly easier mainly because of the amount of puzzles, but it does have skill-based puzzles that can be time consuming. Be sure to study everything in the room carefully. We completed a puzzle the hard way as we missed the instructions on a poster. My suggestion would be to play both of their games if you have the time. They are unique and entertaining in their own ways! โ„น๏ธ ADDITIONAL INFO Free Parking Lobby area with seating available and puzzles to solve Merchandise available for purchase This game contains flashing lights and strobes Photos above are property of Rabbit Hole Recreation Services (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) LOCATION: Longmont, Colorado, USA Photo above is property of Atlas Escape Rooms Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐Ÿ“ย ย ETR DECODER ๐Ÿ”‘ GAME: Rockstar 2.0 ๐Ÿ“… DATE PLAYED: August 29, 2022 ๐ŸŽฌ GENRE: Mystery ๐Ÿง  DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 6/10 ๐Ÿ‘ฅ TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-8 ppl ๐Ÿ•’ LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. ๐Ÿ’ฐ PRICE: $28.00/ pp (Min. of 2 ppl) โ˜Ž๏ธ BOOKING TYPE: Private ๐Ÿ”“ ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes ๐Ÿ“– THE STORY This 2.0 experience is a continuation from the previous story. After successfully retrieving rock star Larz Killz's unreleased final album, he thanked you by knocking you out and locking you inside a strange place. Only when you and your teammates would successfully manage to solve all the trivia questions will you guys be able to decipher the message he has left for all of you and maybe, just maybe, you might have a chance to escape the inner sanctum of the mad rocker. Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐ŸŽฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE Having the option to solve the puzzles either by knowing the trivia or solving it another way was nice. It definitely gave the player more choices on how they want to play the game. There was a clear passage that we had to take in order to unlock the final answer. A notepad was provided and very useful throughout the game. There were items in the room that were designed for people who were not into puzzling but could still have a lot of fun. The owner took the time to make the theme feel as authentic as possible. There were numerous music records in the room along with real guitars. If you are a fan of music, especially rock, there will be some nostalgic moments (you can even be your own DJ!). ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK Some of the clues seemed too obvious (at least for enthusiasts). It was literally pointing to the answers at times. It would be better if the hint system could play into the storyline instead of having to hold the walkie talkie the entire time. ๐Ÿน TAKE A SHOT? This game had a little more handholding than their other game "The Dragon Egg 2.0". If you have knowledge of music trivia, you might have an easier time than other players. I would start with this game to warm up first before moving on to their other room. This escape room was build in-house with minimal tech involved. There's a lot of locks and keys and it's perfect for beginners and traditional escape room lovers. The owner has informed us that the demographic for his region are mostly beginners and the rooms are used a lot for corporate events. We can definitely feel that the puzzles are on the easier side for enthusiast. But we still had a lot of fun solving the puzzles and learning about trivia knowledge at the same time! Do you know what is the most awarded song of all time (not part of the game but type it into the comment below if you know the answer!)? โ„น๏ธ ADDITIONAL INFO Free parking in the lot across the street Take the elevator up to the 3rd floor Lobby area with seating, water and locker Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) Rumor has it, that the last remaining Dragon Egg is hidden within. Being that Garius is a powerful dark arts wizard, you know that the task of retrieving this egg isn't going to be easy. Will you get out in time? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐ŸŽฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE The puzzle flow was smooth throughout the game play. It's also great for teams as the puzzles were non-linear. There's a good mixture of various types of puzzles in the room. There were props in the room that looked like wizard's prized possessions from centuries ago, especially the magic books. ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK There's a decoder that we didn't end up using since we solve the puzzle by deduction. I wonder if that could be avoided somehow as it did cause confusion for us with the left over clue. This room had a safe that required a code and a key but the other room that we played opened with just the code. It might help to keep it consistent especially if players are playing both rooms back to back and this could be confusing as to how the box operates. Props such as a safe might not go with the wizard theme but perhaps decorating the outside to make it more like a wizard's treasure chest might resolve this issue. The ambiance of the room doesn't feel like a wizard's lair. We suggest dimming the lights and adding in some music. ๐Ÿน TAKE A SHOT? This escape room was build in-house with minimal tech involved. There's a lot of locks and keys and it's perfect for beginners and traditional escape room lovers. The owner has informed us that the demographic for his region are mostly beginners and the rooms are used a lot for corporate events. We can definitely feel that the puzzles are on the easier side for enthusiast. Although at first glance it may seem everything is in the open, it might not be as easy as it seems to locate the hidden chamber of the Dragon Egg. LOCATION: Brighton, Colorado, USA Photo above is property of Mile High Escape Ops Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐Ÿ“ย ย ETR DECODER ๐Ÿ”‘ GAME: Contamination ๐Ÿ“… DATE PLAYED: August 29, 2022 ๐ŸŽฌ GENRE: Zombies ๐Ÿง  DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 5/10 ๐Ÿ‘ฅ TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-10 ppl ๐Ÿ•’ LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. ๐Ÿ’ฐ PRICE: $30.00/ pp (Min. of 2 ppl) โ˜Ž๏ธ BOOKING TYPE: Private ๐Ÿ”“ ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes ๐Ÿ“– THE STORY It is the year 2028 and the zombie apocalypse is upon us. Dr. Rosen was doing important research at a secret lab to find a cure, when suddenly he disappeared. Your mission is to infiltrate the lab and see if A.S.T.R.I.D. an Artificial Intelligence computer is the reason behind his disappearance... Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐ŸŽฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE The intro was a nice surprise. We totally didn't anticipate that was how we were going to be descend into the lab. Don't let the ordinary look of the laboratory fool you, there's actually a lot of hidden reveals that slowly unravels as we played through the game. The hint system in the latter part of the game was very different. We really enjoyed the interaction with the GM and the way the hints were delivered. Depending on the type of player you are, it could be seen as either scary or humorous. The sound and alerts were on point with all the interactions that was happening when certain items were triggered. There was a lovely "jump-scare" that happened during the game that reminded us that we are in a zombie apocalypse after all. ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK Because the owner wanted to make this game family-friendly, the room was really bright and there wasn't any gory type of props. We thought since this is a zombie apocalypse, this could definitely be a bit more eerie in terms of the ambience. We suggested to possibly have a "fear" version available for those horror fans out there. The input for solutions on the computer was confusing as some required caps and some didn't. ๐Ÿน TAKE A SHOT? This room is categorized as "scary" on their website, but for most people it'll be more like jump-scares rather than like haunted house scares. For us, we would have preferred the set design to be more eerie to accompany the theme better. But we understand it might not best suit their demographic. Although, we were really impressed by the tech and puzzles in this room especially when the build is all done in-house. The puzzle flow was definitely there and there were a few tricks with the tech that we haven't seen after playing over 750+ games. We loved the owners creativity and we can't wait to see what they come up with in their new room "Dragon Realm"! โ„น๏ธ ADDITIONAL INFO Free parking lot right in front Lobby area with seating available Lockers available Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) • 303 Escape - "Chapter 2 - Dark Heart of the Hotel"

LOCATION: Thornton, Colorado, USA Photo above is property of 303 Escape Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐Ÿ“ย ย ETR DECODER ๐Ÿ”‘ GAME: Chapter 2 - Dark Heart of the Hotel ๐Ÿ“… DATE PLAYED: August 29, 2022 ๐ŸŽฌ GENRE: Horror, Serial Killer ๐Ÿง  DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 6.5/10 ๐Ÿ‘ฅ TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-6 ppl (Ages 16+) ๐Ÿ•’ LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. ๐Ÿ’ฐ PRICE: $40.00/ pp (Min. of 2 ppl), $35.00/ pp (3-4 ppl), $30.00/ pp (5-6 ppl) โ˜Ž๏ธ BOOKING TYPE: Private ๐Ÿ”“ ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes ๐Ÿ“– THE STORY You learned from surviving "Room 303" that Robert had escaped from the Sunny Pines mental facility by staging his own death. Currently, he is back at "The Homicide Hotel" and taking the lives of innocent people again! How can you convince the police that he's still alive? Hopefully you'll find the evidence you need before Robert finds you... Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐ŸŽฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE Right from the start, we were immersed into the set design of this old hotel lobby. The intro was given over an audio speaker which made it feel even creepier since we don't know who's speaking to us and from where. Right after we've completed our paperwork for the check-in, we followed our "bellhop" to our hotel room down the spooky hallway. Just as described in the storyline, there were a lot of hidden chambers and passageways in this game. After playing so many room, we've gotten great at detecting where the door is to the next room. This game still managed to surprise us with a few hidden spots. We loved the hint system used in this room. It was so unique yet fit perfectly with the storyline. The set design was as if we walked into a 1940s Hollywood horror movie set. We started off in a normal looking hallway with a stairwell and the deeper we went, the more we thought "Did we just become those people that we would joke about when watching a horror movie on why they would go down this path and wrap themselves like a gift for the killer?" One of the puzzles had a multi-step solve where we had to assemble something in order to use it for another puzzle. This was really clever. The lighting and sound effect was also top notch. Everything was programmed to happen when it should. This made us feel like we were pushed through different scenes in a movie. ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK This is a minor thing but a timer on a device confused us as we normally would think it's an item that we shouldn't touch since it's counting down clock. This did waste some of our time. But other than that, everything hit the spot. ๐Ÿน TAKE A SHOT? If you enjoy horror and eerie but to an extent (no live actor or jump scares), this is the perfect game for you. It also has a detective and murder mystery vibe. The script is really want lures the players to come back. We learned things in this game that we couldn't wait to find out more in the next chapter (and there will be one!). When we entered the Homicide Hotel, the outside world disappeared. All we could think of was how not to be caught by this killer and make it out alive. This is what true immersion feels like! โ„น๏ธ ADDITIONAL INFO Free parking lot right in front. Lobby area with seating. Guests may be in a confined space. Guests may experience low light situations for immersion but will have adequate light to solve puzzles. Recently, at the auction it was sold to Greg & Alice Williams in hopes to capitalize on its dark history. They named it "Homicide Hotel" and transformed it into an escape room business! You decided to be adventurous and voluntarily check yourself into "Room 303", the room that Robert always puts his next victims in. What could go wrong? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐ŸŽฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE Right from the start, we were immersed into the set design of this old hotel lobby. The intro was given over an audio speaker which made it feel even creepier since we don't know who's speaking to us and from where. Right after we completed our paperwork for the check-in, we followed our "bellhop" to our hotel room down the spooky hallway. Just as described in the storyline, there were a lot of hidden chambers and passageways in this game. After playing so many rooms, we've gotten great at detecting where the door is to the next room but this game still managed to surprise us with a few hidden spots. You can definitely feel the inspiration in the set design from H.H. Holmes. In this game in particular, we had a moment where we discovered a hidden passageway that gave us goosebumps. As we entered the room, we were instantly creeped out by the dim lighting, discolorations of the wallpapers, a bed that really hopes you would check underneath it, and of course they had to have a static TV. The lighting and sound effect was also top notch. Everything was programmed to happen when it should. This made us feel like we were pushed through different scenes in a movie. The hint system was to dial the phone to connect with the front desk. The creator was very considerate when implementing the audibility for the hint system for the entire team. Although we knew how one of the puzzles worked since we've seen it in other escape rooms before, it was the placement of the prop that made it a unique experience for us. ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK It would be great if the game master could play into character a bit more. We had the owner that day, so he probably doesn't normally GM as much. But a creepy bellhop/check-in person will definitely bring the experience to another level. If we had an actual key that we could put into the keyhole to open our own room, it would make the experience feel more authentic. One of the visual puzzles was a bit of a stretch to visualize. A puzzle that needed numbers didn't really give a clear order on how it should be read. Perhaps an added puzzle with a storyline could easily resolve that. ๐Ÿน TAKE A SHOT? The storyline for "Chapter 1 - Room 303" had us hooked right from the beginning. We couldn't wait to get into "Chapter 2 - Dark Heart of the Hotel", as they did a great job at providing a climactic cliffhanger. This game is perfect for me as I love horror-themed games, but I'm not a big fan of live actors and jump-scares. At times, we felt like supernatural investigators and others times, we were like detectives. Our mindset was focused on figuring out the truth the entire time. When we entered "The Homicide Hotel", the outside world completely disappeared. All we could think about was how not to get caught by this killer and make it out alive. This is what true immersion feels like! โ„น๏ธ ADDITIONAL INFO Free parking lot right in front. Lobby area with seating. Flashing/flickering (not strobe) lights may be present. LOCATION: Denver, Colorado, USA Photo above is property of Puzzle Effect Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐Ÿ“ย ย ETR DECODER ๐Ÿ”‘ GAME: Grim Stacks ๐Ÿ“… DATE PLAYED: August 30, 2022 ๐ŸŽฌ GENRE: Magic, Fantasy ๐Ÿง  DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 5.5/10 ๐Ÿ‘ฅ TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: Up to 6 ppl ๐Ÿ•’ LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. ๐Ÿ’ฐ PRICE: $31.95/ pp โ˜Ž๏ธ BOOKING TYPE: Private ๐Ÿ”“ ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes ๐Ÿ“– THE STORY You heard rumors on the street that a mystical bookshop owner captured a creature that he was planning to use in order to take revenge against the Arcane Library. You have to stop this at once. You decide to sneak into the shop when the owner goes out to lunch. But you only have one hour... Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐ŸŽฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE Instead of having the game master explain the lock usage in the lobby, the prerecorded intro video did a great job with explaining the only locks that will be used in the room that you're about to play and how they worked. This is a great way to make sure all grounds are covered and that all the players received the same information every time. The set design started us off in an alley way where our first puzzle was to try to break into the shop. This was a clever way to start the game rather than just placing us inside. The shop was filled with spell books, wand boxes, magical creatures and more! It definitely had a Harry Potter vibe. There was a physical puzzle where we had to use the wand that was different than the intended way. The ending was quite surprising. It was a clever way of utilizing the story to create a "magical escape". ๐Ÿงฉ MISSED THE MARK The intro video for the actual story could be done better with an actor in character or relevant footage to the storyline instead. I understand the set design is in a shop and we should be able to see outside but it was a bit distracting when all we see are Muggles. Perhaps utilizing shades or posters would make the shop seem more eerie and mysterious since the owner is "shady" after all. There were two spaces (an alleyway and a second room) that we felt could've been utilized more. Most of the puzzles were inside the shop. The second part of the game went by very quickly. Although the decor was on par, we felt that there weren't too many magical moments that could have happened with some added lighting, fog, sound and/or special effects (especially towards the end). There was a button puzzle that we thought could be better improved by having a certain logical reasoning behind the sequence rather than it just being randomized. For enthusiasts, it definitely made less sense but for beginners they might not mind it as much. ๐Ÿน TAKE A SHOT? This wizard themed room was on the easier side in terms of puzzles than the other games we've played in the past. There wasn't too much "mixology" or spells involved which is usually what takes up most of the time. From an enthusiast perspective, I wished there were more puzzles and bedazzling moments. It's a great beginner room and it'll definitely give you that opportunity to feel like a great wizard when you successfully rescue the creature from captivity!
