A puzzle box served as a key element in the game, capturing everyone's attention. I particularly liked the interactive aspect of physically manipulating the box to uncover its hidden mysteries. Each room had flashlights plugged in, which eliminates the problem of batteries running low. One of the visual puzzles featured a clever method for unveiling the answer. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There is an interactive surface that we were unaware could be interacted with. It would be great if a clue could point us to that. The puzzle missions and the storyline need better integration. We recommend supplying players with a writing pad since some puzzles could might require this tool. The conclusion seemed like it could use some enhancements. We were unsure about where to perform the spell, and it would be wonderful if they could end it with a more enchanting touch. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Upon stepping into the room, fans of the beloved Harry Potter series will immediately feel a sense of nostalgia wash over them as they come face to face with a plethora of iconic elements from the magical world. While the room may initially appear unassuming, a closer inspection reveals lots of challenges waiting to be unraveled. During the game, there were instances where we had to be creative and think unconventionally in order to solve a particular puzzle. The creator's ingenious use of a musical instrument as a prop to craft a puzzle not only added an element of novelty but also showcased a high level of creativity. 🧩   MISSED THE MARK There is a need for updating some props and the overall room condition. Using a flashlight might be more suitable to maintain the dimly lit atmosphere instead of having players turn on the lights during gameplay. The final step to escape appeared to be intended to lead somewhere initially, but due to a malfunctioning device (we think), we had to verbally provide the solution. This created a sense of disconnect between the storyline and our actions. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? The game " Ransom " is a unique creation that reflects the creator's background in the music industry. Through his experience, he has intricately woven music references into the game, presenting players with a plethora of puzzles that are both challenging and engaging. While these puzzles may contain Easter Eggs that music enthusiasts could quickly identify, the game is designed in such a way that even those without a deep knowledge of music can still enjoy and solve them. As you delve deeper into the game, you will gradually uncover a surprising twist - the kidnapper behind it all is not as malevolent as one might expect. Instead of instilling fear and despair, he has left behind a trail of clues and puzzles, leading you on a journey to uncover his whereabouts. I appreciated being able to enjoy the show without it affecting our game time. The game exclusively relied on technology without any physical locks. The challenges involved in reactivating the deserted amusement center made for an engaging experience. Fortunately, due to our decision at the end, the game concluded on a positive note. This game is ideal for birthday celebrations. One individual, in particular, will be made to feel like a celebrity. The tasks were clearly defined, allowing you to track your progress as you advanced in the game. You can easily see how many tasks are yet to be completed. The room made efficient use of space, despite its modest size, maximizing every inch available. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK This game may appeal more to a younger audience or individuals new to escape rooms. Video above is property of Black Cats Number One Escape Room 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE We were impressed by how the game immediately started in what appeared to be the "check-in" area of the hotel, with the creepy butler being the only one to welcome you. This was also a creative way to integrate the hint system. The incredible combination of set design, lighting, and sound absolutely brought this haunted hotel to life! The eerie, seemingly endless hallway we explored during the game was absolutely unforgettable. Every visit for more puzzle clues in this hallway sent chills down our spines! A bunch of sneaky triggers in the room made it seem like some spooky supernatural power was pulling the strings. We also got a few jump scare moments that was perfectly planned in the game (I'm sure if you opt for the full experience, you'll get a lot more of that). As for the props in the game - they totally nailed the horror theme, adding that extra oomph to the whole experience! One room featured a series of interconnected puzzles that culminated in obtaining a prop at the end, weaving together a cohesive story. The acquisition of the prop at the end was both "gruesome" and satisfying. The final puzzle involved multiple steps that required us to piece together various clues, offering a particularly enjoyable challenge. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK We are not certain if it was because we requested the "non-scary" version, but we were hoping that the Game Master would stay in character throughout the entire experience. For example, it would be cooler if the player could initiate the game by pressing the remote themselves, and the free bracelet could be given to us at the end of the game. We were unsure about how to enter a 6-digit code as the sequence was unclear. It would be helpful if some kind of "ghostly" clue could be provided to indicate the correct order. Most of the doors were used as actual spaces, except for one. We thought that adding a puzzle to utilize that space would enhance the experience. There were a few delays during the game possibly due to mechanical issues, which made it confusing for us to understand what we triggered and which code activated certain elements. It would be beneficial to incorporate sound or light indicators into the game. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Are you seeking a spine-chilling and eerie adventure in Las Vegas? Look no further than the "Third Gate Hotel"! As you step inside, you are greeted by a haunting atmosphere that rivals the most terrifying scenes from horror movies like "The Shining". The props in this game were appropriate for the dinosaur research lab and island theme. There were innovative methods of using props to unlock items, rather than the typical key and lock scenario. 🧩   MISSED THE MARK Adding lighting and music to the room would greatly enhance the overall experience. Providing guidance on which lock corresponds to which code would be helpful. Some puzzles lacked clear hints on why a specific location was relevant for finding a solution, and some solutions seemed disconnected from the storyline. One puzzle relied on the player's skill in finding hidden items. We recommend simplifying the "search and find" aspect as it can be challenging for players to verify the accuracy of their findings. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Isn't the theme of this escape room fascinating? Wouldn't you love to explore Jurassic Island if given the opportunity? The game began in a typical laboratory setting and gradually unveiled more surprises as we advanced. The evolving scenery added an intriguing element to the game. There are plenty of tasks to keep two players engaged in this room. This room is ideal for novice escape room enthusiasts because the puzzles are not overly challenging, allowing players to approach them with a mindset of "let's give it a shot" for most puzzle categories. Being enthusiasts, we tended to overanalyze many aspects, which nearly led us to being stuck on Jurassic Island indefinitely, becoming part of its ancient fossils. The sound effects and lighting perfectly complemented the overall production. Upon entering the dimly lit cargo area of the ship, we were immediately immersed in the urgent and tense atmosphere created by the sound of water rushing in. The missions involved shutting off the water and navigating away from an approaching storm. From unlocking different compartments of the ship to using various tools to fix leaks and even steering through a stormy sea, the entire experience felt incredibly realistic. This game offered multiple paths to explore, allowing us to solve puzzles in a non-linear manner. While we encountered puzzles we missed and had to backtrack, ultimately, we had to come together as a team to solve the final challenge. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The only aspect we feel could be improved is the ending, as it could have more connection to the storyline. We have offered a suggestion to the creator, so a new conclusion may be in store for the future. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Our GM shared with us that the concept for this captivating game drew inspiration from a unique blend of two beloved classics, The Goonies and Titanic. While we may not have stumbled upon hidden treasures, the enthralling journey that unfolded within this heart-pounding survival game, set amidst the perilous circumstances of a sinking ship, resonated strongly with the essence of both these iconic films. As we navigated through the challenges and uncertainties of the Storm Surge escape room, it quickly solidified its place as a standout experience among ship-themed adventures we've played. The adrenaline-fueled excitement of facing life-and-death situations onboard a sinking vessel mirrored the intense emotions evoked by the cinematic masterpieces that served as its muse. Even though we needed to get out quickly, we were so captivated by the story that we were actually excited about staying longer inside. The blend of suspense, teamwork, and strategic thinking required to survive this gripping tale left a lasting impression on us, making Storm Surge a memorable and highly recommended escape room experience. First, we had to access the audio play, which we could do through the website or a QR code. From there, we got comfortable and got to listen to the play. Throughout the play, as Sherlock Holmes discovered evidence, we also got to discover the evidence as well through the envelopes. First off, the audio play was amazing. It was professionally done with fantastic voice actors. We also loved the experience of seeing the evidence that Sherlock Holmes saw, which felt and looked like they were taken right from the story. This also added to the immersion as it felt like we were with Sherlock and Watson through the full mystery. LAS had so many extras included as well. There were some recipes for some cocktails and mocktails, a guide on how to play with children, a guide to reading cursive as well as we could download the audio play to take on the go and the script could be downloaded to follow along easier. This game gave us information and evidence at the same time as the characters in the story, which at the end, we had to examine everything together and see if we could come to the same conclusion as Sherlock Holmes. One thing we loved was that the story was similar to the original but was rewritten to include a new mystery for us to solve as well. The new mystery blended in so seamlessly that it all fit together beautifully. The spaceship's sound effects and props, particularly the laser gun, created an incredibly authentic atmosphere. We were completely immersed in the experience for an hour, forgetting about reality entirely. The challenges set up in this room closely replicated a genuine emergency scenario on a spaceship, creating a sense of urgency that persisted throughout the game. The central podium serves as the hub of the game. Its clever design allows each player to take a station, facilitating teamwork without overcrowding around a single puzzle. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The difficulty of the puzzle is influenced by the addition of steps or an increase in the number of times it needs to be completed. These puzzles focus more on operational instructions rather than logic or riddles (which is not necessarily a negative aspect, as it depends on personal preference). The inclusion of target lights that illuminated as we solved puzzles created a sense of "communication" with the kidnapper, almost as if he was "rewarding" us for overcoming his challenges. The "jump scares" were not intended to frighten, but rather served as clues to guide us towards solutions. From the outset, there were clues subtly integrated that ultimately led to a meta puzzle at the conclusion, providing a surprising and satisfying "wow" moment. The game did not abruptly end, offering a conclusive and fulfilling ending. The game design prioritized player safety, addressing concerns such as potential splinters in dark rooms by eliminating such issues in this room. The creators also thoughtfully spaced out stations to allow players to move around comfortably, although due to the linear nature of the game, it may not be suitable for large groups. A variety of tools were utilized to uncover clues, and we found the diverse puzzle types in the game to be engaging and satisfying. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Loved every aspect of this game. It was an overwhelming experience for the senses. If I had to be critical, I would suggest that the GM should embody the character of the kidnapper more when preparing the players for the room and providing hints. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? The props featured in this game were filled with references to Resident Evil, making it feel like I had stepped into a video game world. During the game, there was a point when we had the opportunity to employ an entertaining feature to unveil a code. This served to alleviate some of the tension brought on by the game's intensity and the overall atmosphere. Certain puzzles were really creative. We particularly liked the one towards the end of the game. Despite the absence of a storyline linking the puzzles in this game, I felt it was unnecessary. Majority of them are easy, and you will get that satisfaction from solving them all the time. Another plus is that you have to use all your senses (literally) to accomplish the game). Very clear story line. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The game is very good, but I was a little bit tired of solving similar puzzles. I mean the idea of the puzzles is the same. For example: you find a letter with all the info into it, you have to read the letter and make it exactly like it is written. Sometimes I want to see a little bit more sophisticated approach. But that's more of a quibble than a full-fledged minus of the game. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? You definitely have to play this game. It has everything. You will not be bored solving them, because clues and setting are played out in a funny way. Set design is on the highest level. Everything is very neat and clean. Everything plays in a proper way. You really believe that you are on a pirate ship and some mysterious things are happening with you and your friends. - Actor. It was a pleasant surprise when the Game Master met us in the guise. It helped us a lot to feel ourselves in the game without entering the escape room itself. Moreover, you will meet an actor further in the game which helps you dive even deeper in the plot of the game. Jokes. Firstly, the game appears to be mysterious and even scary, but in reality it is very funny and witty. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK In some moments it may seem a little bit long on time, but it is not a minus, just a small point. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Now is your chance to prove your worth. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Geheimgang 188 is crafting its own paranormal universe, which could be described as a blend between Harry Potter and The Umbrella Academy. This currently includes two real-life escape rooms, with a third one recently beginning construction, and a point-and-click online game called The Crystals of Hope. While there's no required order to play these games, players will enjoy the subtle plot points and connections that weave the entire narrative together. Geheimgang 188 is located in a now-abandoned underground emergency WW2 hospital. Many of the site's original features, such as large industrial-sized equipment, turbines, and generators, remain intact today. These elements seamlessly integrate with the company’s aesthetic and game theming, enhancing the immersive experience of their escape rooms, including this one. The game space is much larger than we had expected and contained numerous rooms that you would expect to find in such a building; the supervisor’s office, a training room, engineering, and others (no spoilers). It was great to see that the Ministry’s hallways look just like they did on the online game, a nice attention to detail moment. Each room was also thematically decorated, simplistic, but evocative of what you would expect to find. The integration of some of the larger industrial pieces of equipment from the building’s previous life was impressive and worked thematically. We liked the video components, led by the game’s villain, which added further context and immersion to the story. I’m sure we’ll see more of her in their next game. The puzzles were interactive and engaging. We always seemed to be building, fixing, or moving in order to complete things; often under time pressure, which gave the game an extra dimension. The highlight for us was the number of cooperative elements; there were at least four different challenges which required all three of us to complete them, which is quite unusual to have so many. The ending was well presented with a conclusive puzzle and video element that proposes a sort of cliff hanger moment. Not all escape rooms manage to pull of a fulfilling climax, so this was appreciated. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK We encountered an issue with the logic of one particular puzzle, requiring multiple hints before we could complete it. The game master confirmed that this challenge is commonly misunderstood. While the logic he explained is correct, it doesn't align with the situation players find themselves in. The puzzle has the potential to be really interesting, but it needs to be restructured somehow. We compared our feedback on this particular puzzle with a couple other escape room teams who had also completed it, and they felt the same way. The Supervisor’s office, our first stop, was really underwhelming. The sparse décor didn’t fit the game’s theme and there were very noticeable large black marks all over the bright yellow walls, which was disappointing considering that the game isn’t that old. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This is a brilliant room for players who like to remain active throughout and the 75-minute time limit is just right. Although the story isn’t a key component to the game, the puzzles tie nicely to it and it is supported by their newest in-person escape room ‘The Alchemist’s Legacy’ and their online escape room. If you are right, your discovery of Atlantis will rewrite the history! In this game you get to explore the ancient ruins, attempting to prevent the extinction of Atlantis itself! Video above is property of GAME OVER Escape Rooms 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE This GAME OVER venue only opened about a month prior to our arrival, so everything inside was still looking pristine. The room design certainly evokes a mythical underwater world with a good use of lighting and sound. There are some well-crafted props, which work perfectly with the theme, but their inclusion is quite minimal. In addition to creative lighting, the room itself has been very professionally built. Although there are no genuine stone pillars or walls, you wouldn’t necessarily know it; the visual effects are very well done. There is one unique special effect that pushes the immersion further, the inclusion of an actual waterfall that separates the two halves of the game! In order for us to traverse these two halves we must, of course, solve numerous puzzles which will halt the falling water. The room offers a varied number of puzzles, which includes searching, observation and decoding, as well as a couple of team-based tasks. For us, finding two specific team-based challenges was a big plus (often rooms might only ever include just the one), although to be honest, each and every puzzle had us all constantly engaged. The clue system is well done. It consists of a touch screen with a ‘help’ button as well as displaying our game time. We have typically found preset clues to be unhelpful (telling us things we already know), however in this game the clues were actually useful to us. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK We didn’t find any areas which missed the mark in a significant way, however there were a couple of small details which, if fixed, could easily elevate the experience that little bit more. Disguise non-game elements – there are regular door handles on the exits and a wire running across the floor with a black covering that stick out. It’s a shame that these escaped the designer’s attention considering how high the production value is for the rest of the room. Hidden objects – There are several objects which we needed to search for in order to complete puzzles. We felt they were placed a bit too simply, e.g. just in the corner of the room, and not somewhere you would think to look or somewhere creative, like in a sea shell or a hidden compartment, etc. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? The high-quality set design and cooperative puzzles made this a fun and engaging experience for us. The game plays best with 2-4, although can accommodate up to six players. However, we think that six will make the room too cramped and potentially leave some people with little to do. We found this to be the hardest of the three rooms at this Game Over location, so ideal for those seeking a challenge! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Free parking is available on site. There is a lobby area with comfortable seating, lockers, and some cold drinks for sale. Due to crouching and steps, this game is not wheelchair accessible.
