📖 THE STORY
You and your fellow archaeologists have been contacted by an old colleague with what could be the discovery of a lifetime: the long-lost Egyptian tomb of High Priest Ankhe-Khunsu. After weeks of travel, your team finally reaches the heart of the ancient tomb, eager to uncover the secrets and treasures hidden within.
But something has gone terribly wrong. As you enter the chamber, the entrance suddenly seals behind you, trapping your team inside. It quickly becomes clear that you were never meant to leave. You have been marked as sacrifices to the gods, and with only about 60 minutes of air remaining, time is running out.
Now, your team must find a way to unseal the chamber, uncover the treasures hidden within the tomb, and escape before you become its next victims.

🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE
As a single-room experience, The Tomb absolutely nails its aesthetic and puzzle design. The moment the game begins and you step into the first hallway, the theme is immediately established, and that immersion continues throughout the entire experience. The environment feels like a genuine Egyptian tomb rather than simply a room decorated to look like one, and the attention to detail helps maintain that feeling from beginning to end.
The majority of the puzzles fit naturally within the theme, which made the experience feel cohesive rather than like a collection of puzzles placed inside an Egyptian setting. The puzzles, scenery, and overall atmosphere all work together to reinforce the idea that you're exploring an ancient tomb, and that consistency was one of the game's biggest strengths.
🧩 MISSED THE MARK
At certain points throughout the experience, the tomb became extremely dark. The flashlights provided were absolutely necessary and fit nicely within the theme, but there were a few moments where a little more ambient lighting would have helped. A subtle increase in environmental lighting could have made it easier to take in the scenery and navigate the space without taking away from the atmosphere or sense of darkness.
The finale was also one of the more difficult puzzles in the game, and as a group that enjoys challenging puzzles, we had a lot of fun working through it. Unfortunately, the final solve didn't quite deliver the satisfying "aha" moment we were hoping for. Instead of a big realization that made everything click into place, we reached the end with more of a, "Did we win?" feeling. The puzzle itself was enjoyable to solve, but the final payoff could have been a little clearer and more rewarding.
🏹 TAKE A SHOT?
"The Tomb" is a really well-designed game, especially considering its age. It was one of the earlier experiences from Escape Alaska that showed just how much care and attention the company was willing to put into its games, and the level of detail still holds up surprisingly well. The movie-like quality of the sets far exceeded what I expected to find in Anchorage, and the single-room layout gives the experience a very focused sense of adventure.
The puzzle design also makes good use of the space. With only one main room to work with, Escape Alaska found ways to scatter a variety of puzzles throughout the environment, giving the group plenty to discover and interact with. Some puzzles can feel a little tricky or repetitive at times, but overall they come together to create a fun and satisfying escape experience. More importantly, the puzzles feel like they belong in the tomb, rather than simply being placed inside an Egyptian-themed room.
There is one very minor detail that could have made the experience even stronger. I really enjoyed how the hallway leading into the game is already fully immersed in the theme, because the experience begins before you ever enter the actual room. However, having a more defined separation between that hallway, the briefing area, and the game itself could help the transition feel more dramatic. A little more separation could also make the tomb itself feel more claustrophobic and isolated, which would fit the theme particularly well.
All in all, "The Tomb" is a solid experience that has aged quite well. It delivers strong scenery, fun puzzles, and a cohesive theme, and it is a great example of what Escape Alaska was capable of creating. If you find yourself in Anchorage looking for an escape room, The Tomb is absolutely worth checking out.
