📖 THE STORY

Aside from her inn, Great Grandma Netty (aka GG) had a passion for two things: puzzles and collecting ghosts! (And she was definitely a cat lady.) Sadly, she recently passed away, but her paranormal friends are still here and starting to get restless. With the inn’s grand re-opening scheduled for tomorrow, the ghosts are threatening the inn’s future, and it’s up to you to set them free. How many can you help move on before sunrise?

🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE

  • Rich with local nods and flavor. As Vermonters, these are near and dear to us, but visitors are likely to recognize most as well. We love that this game feels so distinctly Vermont.

  • A standout piece of tech is used to extract the ghosts from the haunted objects and help them “move on”. It creates a really cool effect, and we appreciated the care in individual, themed creations of each ghost.

  • Lots to do and parallel puzzle paths, especially later in the game. Although there are seven total ghostly objects currently available (and room to add more), as of our visit (>7 months after opening), five was the most a group had found in their original 60 minute game. I do think some enthusiasts could get all seven. (We played with our daughter and a friend the first time around, so were not quite as competitive, and found four.) You can get a discount to replay and (if you choose) start the game with the things you already did unlocked or just do a speed run through the previously completed puzzles (as we did, allowing us to see details and puzzles we hadn't done the first time).

  • Charming narrative touches, from the intro video explaining the unique paranormal storyline to the individual ghost vignettes. Rather than one linear story, the game delivers mini-tales for each haunted object that are infused with local charm.

  • There is a puzzle involving smell, which can often be hit or miss, and we did struggle to distinguish some of the scents. However, most of the items also had visual cues pointing us towards the correct answer, which we very much appreciated!

  • Cute hint system: you earn hints by finding hidden cats and kittens. It fits Grandma Netty’s vibe and makes players feel more empowered to use hints since they’ve “earned” them. Given the higher volume of puzzles, you might consider using them a bit sooner than you otherwise would.

  • While there are some tech reveals, the many solves primarily utilize traditional locks. However, with some unique formats (e.g., only one directional lock) and helpful symbols related to the relevant puzzle next to each 4-digit lock, we never had to guess which code should go where.

🧩 MISSED THE MARK

  • Players are told that finding 1-2 ghosts is equivalent to “escaping” this room. Yet, with 7 to uncover currently, there are more puzzles than most teams can finish in one attempt. While we took advantage of the offer to replay, it could be frustrating for out-of-town players who don’t have the time to return. An option for a double booking or longer time slot could help!

  • One puzzle could use a bit more signposting, leaving us unsure whether we had enough information to start and keeping us from most of the 3rd puzzle track in our first attempt.

🏹 TAKE A SHOT?

"Green Mountain Ghost Hunt" rivals "Vermonsters" as the Vermontiest escape room around. Its challenge comes more from the sheer volume of puzzles than their individual difficulty, making it accessible to newer players while still offering plenty to do for enthusiasts. The lighthearted, slightly spooky tone (described as being in the vein of Disney’s Haunted Mansion) makes it a great choice for families (we’d say ages 10+) and anyone who prefers their ghost stories with charm instead of chills. While we’ve enjoyed all the rooms at Escape Room 60, this one joins The Vermonsters as our local standouts - the perfect way to get some local flavor while getting your escape room fix.

🔎 HINT

Spooky dolls are always getting into fights with one another. One stab and they’re dead!
