You have stepped through a portal and landed in an enchanted forest. However, the portal quickly closed behind you and you feel trapped in an unfamiliar place. A storm is brewing and the enchanted forest feels like a dark presence has fallen over it. This seems to be a wizard's hut. Is he good? Is he evil? What can you learn to help you return home and save the forest? Will you have enough time?

The Enchanted Forest is a remote escape game where you can guide an avatar in the actual room, and let them know what would you like to see/try. Upon entering a Telescape link (where it is being used as an inventory system), we were directed into a Zoom call. Our game master was waiting for us inside. Once we were all in, she gave us a short briefing on the story and we watched a quick intro video on Telescape before the game officially started. It is recommended to have 2 screens (if possible) as you can use one screen for Zoom so you can communicate with the avatar and the other for Telescape. Telescape provided a 360 view of the same room which allowed individual teammates explore the room at their own pace. This also gave a little breather time for the avatar as not everyone will be shouting at her at the same time as some players will be looking at Telescape instead. Anytime a new item is found, it will appear in Telescape to remind us what else can be used. Whenever we used an item, it would disappear from the inventory which was nice to keep us organized. The music in the background was just right giving us a little bit of that magical feel. It's hard to add special effects through online games but there was a moment in the game we've experienced a "wow" moment through lighting and sound.

The puzzles all suited the theme of an enchanted forest. The decor, setup and props all depict a forest that is full of magical things. When solving these puzzles, you can see magic wands, magic lights, colorful lights, music etc. Everything really blends in with the environment. It helps that the puzzle components appear on Telescape too, so participants can try it out instead of asking the avatar to 'try this' or 'try that'. Some puzzles were also interactive within Telescape as well so all the teammates got a chance to try it out. Most puzzles are on the simple side, so enthusiasts might be able to solve some of them quite quickly. There was two puzzles that we think could be better played as IRL experiences rather than online as it doesn't translate as smoothly due to the props necessary to create the effect. For families and younger children, they can be prepared to be amazed as most puzzles are mechanisms that would trigger a magical effect when solved!

Overall, I really enjoyed The Enchanted Forest. Even though my team members and myself are considered enthusiasts and the puzzles are mostly on the easier side for us, everything just seems to fall into place smoothly. Hence, it shows that an escape room is not purely about puzzles, but the room set up, execution and game master (in cases of remote games), all play a part in delivering a wonderful experience. We had a friendly game master and immediately made us feel at home upon entering the 'forest'. I will recommend this game to just about any group, but especially for families with younger children as they will definitely have a blast playing this! But hey, aren't we all just big kids at heart?
