The artwork is very distinct in these Rusty Lake games and works perfectly for this game. The best way to describe the art is it has an unsettling offbeat feel to it. This is also the first Rusty Lake game to have specifically commissioned music so turn up the volume when you are playing. It will add to the slight creepy ambiance of the game but will also have appropriate and inappropriate sound effects at times in the game.

I played this game on my mobile device but this game is also available for desktop. The game controls are similar to many point and click games. You can interact with things by clicking on them and you will be collecting items in the inventory system along the way. You will have to figure out how to use them or what to combine them with. The beginning will also give you a quick tutorial on the controls.
The game allows you to take multiple paths to get to the end but to get the full ending and the secret code to use in another Rusty Lake game, you will need to be able to follow the clues and choose the right order of hotel rooms to enter. Doing this will help you collect the 2 optional ingredients for each meal. On the Steam game, you can also attempt to unlock the 23 achievements to satisfy the completist in you.

There are a good mix of puzzles in this game. Some point click games will only have you pick up items and figure out how to use them, but Rusty Lake also has some good logic and observational puzzles. There are multiple hotel rooms for you to enter so I found Rusty Lake was creative in setting up a theme for each character, which would require you to interact with the items and the guests differently. I also found the game does encourage multiple plays. The bonus items you need to complete the game 100% can sometimes become locked if you get too far into a room so you would need to go back.

This game plays out like an indie movie where you have no idea what is going on and try to piece it all together in your mind. At the end you just think “What in the world just happened?!” This game is not heavy on story but is more of a fun addition if you are well-versed in the Rusty Lake characters and lore. This was Rusty Lake’s first premium game, but I encourage you to try their other free games first like Paradox or The Lake. Their style of game is not for everyone so this is not be the ideal game to start with but if you have played a few and are curious about diving further in, this would be a fun one to play.
