  • Boggled Escape Rooms - “The Key of Destiny”

LOCATION: Calabasas, California, USA Photo above is property of Boggled Escape Rooms Photos above are property of Boggled Escape Rooms 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: The Key of Destiny 📅 DATE PLAYED: April 28, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Egyptian, Sci-Fi 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 3 ppl): 6.5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-6 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: $45.00/ pp (Min. fee equal to 4 ppl - $180.00) ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY You are a member of Explorers. One day, your team member Sophie opened an old Egyptian artifact called "The Key of Destiny" which summoned the ancient God of Chaos - Set. Since then, the world has been altered, and Sophie has vanished. Now, you have about 60 minutes to solve the challenges by Set to find Sophie, and to return the Key of Destiny to your headquarters before the world is completely changed forever! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Since the theme was about the reality altered by "The Key of Destiny" and an Egyptian god, it was not entirely about ancient Egypt or the modern world. The room had a mixture of items from those two worlds (at times, I lost the immersive feeling of a full Egyptian theme room when I found materials that don't belong from that era). I felt I was fully immersed in the world of the altered reality in this room. I believe that the theme worked out cleverly. Because of the setting, the mixture of modern and Egyptian items coherently helped to give a variety of puzzles without breaking the immersive feeling. I admired the details of some of the props in the game. Those were unique, artistic, and mesmerizing. I loved the way that the creators of this game decorated the room. I felt their passion for making this room! Because the number of chambers was already revealed, there might be no surprise factor like discovering an unexpected place. However, every time I moved into a new space, I felt a great sense of accomplishment and so much excitement. Each room had a different vibe and a new unique set of puzzles to enjoy. As we moved on, my teammates and I had moments of “Oh, Wow!” especially toward the end. I loved how the game flowed. There were a good number and variety of puzzles in this game. Some puzzles were conventional so that beginners could have a chance to shine. I loved that some had nice twists and originality. All of them made sense, and I enjoyed them all. We could read hints in envelopes left in the room. Or, if we needed more specific suggestions, we could ask our game masters. I liked that they gave us options. My game masters, Darryl and Erica, were nice and friendly. They explained well how the game goes to a novice on our team. When we needed hints, they gave us exactly what we needed. I felt they were paying attention to what we were doing. They guided us nicely. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One of the gadgets was not working smoothly, so one of the game masters had to stop the game for a moment. He handled the issue well. After we finished the game, we tried the gadget again, and it worked perfectly. (He said that it never failed before. I think things like that happen when a reviewer is playing. Lol.) 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? "The Key of Destiny" is an exciting and joyous escape room newly opened in Calabasas, California! Although it may be a little easy for a group of enthusiasts, I believe there are a lot of puzzles with charms and uniqueness that everyone can enjoy in this game. This escape room is perfect for a fun night out with friends and family! So, why don’t you gather your team and dive into the altered reality to challenge puzzles created by an Egyptian God of Chaos? ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Parking is available in front of the building Located on the 1st floor There are restaurants and shops nearby. The game master can give you a map of the restaurants. Great location to hang out on weekends! His assistant believes it's within the Arconia, but only 60 minutes remain until showtime. Can you scour the Arconia for the prop before the curtain rises? The clock ticks, the stage awaits, and the search begins. Video above is property of Hulu 🆃🅷🅴 🅶🅰🅼🅴 🅿🅻🅰🆈 Signing into the Zoom link provided during booking, we were greeted by our gracious host and GM. They set us up on their custom Escape Game platform, which would grant us access to an inventory and list of locks as we discover new things through the game as well as an “explore” tab that will allow us a 360 view of the rooms. We also got the opportunity to download some fun backgrounds that we could use during the game. Once it was confirmed we all could view everything, we were given our introduction video and were on our way. If you haven't experienced remote escape games before, here's how this one operated. We would see what our GM was seeing and ask them to perform tasks such as checking under tables, opening boxes, or attempting lock combinations. Our GM was very good at taking our requests and performing them. She was also very cryptic in giving us hints and nudges along the way if it seemed like we were struggling so not to ruin our eureka moments. Along the way, as we discover new things, they were added into our inventory which was a helpful reminder of what we had found so far. One advantageous thing was that with the 360 view of the room and the inventory, we were all able to be working on something and stay engaged whether it be talking to the GM and asking her to do things or review the inventory and see if you could solve the items. Photos above are property of The Escape Game 🆃🅷🅴 🅿🆄🆉🆉🅻🅴🆂 The puzzles were a nice variation of different types like matching up, searching and more. There were a few puzzles that would have been better experienced in person so if you are able to make it to the game in person, we hope you enjoy those ones. The game is an overlay of Escape Game’s The Heist room. If you have played The Heist before, you may recognize key reveals in the game, but the puzzles were different enough that it felt like a completely different room. Though we did not use the hint system, it was easy to spot. On the top, there is a question mark that can be clicked for pre-made hints, but our host and GM told us that they were there to give us some hints as well if we needed. Photos above are property of The Escape Game 🅲🅻🅾🆂🅸🅽🅶 🆃🅷🅾🆄🅶🅷🆃🆂 “Only Murders in the Building” offered a satisfying online experience. Theming the game to the show contributed to the overall enjoyment. You do not need to have seen the show to enjoy the game, but you will definitely enjoy many of the references sprinkled throughout the game if you have (Gut milk anyone?). The intro and outro videos set the game up to immerse us in the experience. The puzzles were the right amount of difficulty that it made us think but not to the point of getting frustrated. Anyone who is a fan of the show or mystery enthusiasts would get a kick out of this. Though there is not much murder in this particular game, this is a game that must be checked out. • The Escape Revolution - "Chernobyl Disaster: Moments After"

LOCATION: Los Angeles, California, USA Photo above is property of The Escape Revolution Photos above are property of The Escape Revolution 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Chernobyl Disaster: Moments After 📅 DATE PLAYED: August 20, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Action 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 3 ppl): 9/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-8 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: $46.00 - $59.00/ pp ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes [55:56] 📖 THE STORY 26th of April, 1986… In the heart of the night, as the clock struck 1:24 a.m. the Chernobyl Power Plant shook the world with a cataclysmic explosion. As nuclear scientists, your expertise are greatly needed; your mission is as daring as it is dangerous. You need to decontaminate this long forgotten bunker and turn it into a sanctuary of life. But, each breath you take depletes the precious oxygen, a reminder of the imminent danger closing in. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE This room is dripping with theme and immersion. Possibly one of the most impressive constructions we have seen. So much detail has been applied to transport you to the Soviet USSR and this wretched bunker. The story is king! We appreciated that the game designers thought about the progression of the story. We didn't just magically appear inside. We had to work out how to enter the bunker and even decontaminate ourselves! The puzzles are logical and have a thematic connection to the goal and your predicament. We enjoyed the interactive moments the most. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The puzzles are the only area where we felt improvement could be possible. There is a lot of searching involved in the game and the places they have chosen to hide several items are not areas we would have intuitively thought to look. More team oriented challenges are needed to keep everyone engaged. The game would also benefit from some audio affects when certain things in the room have changed or occurred to give that little clue towards moving to that area. I was surprised that there was not more of a welcoming lobby. The reception area is painted entirely black and consists of only a desk, with no seats or storage facilities. Teams store their belongings in the room with them. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? As stated, this room is visually unbelievable and in itself worth the visit. However, be assured that this is a challenging room which requires detailed searching and some out of the box thinking. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Free Parking is available at the rear, one spot per group/ room There is a lobby but no seating available We were offered a free soft drink after each of our two games Photos above are property of The Escape Revolution (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) #RyanDriver #IRLescaperoom #EscapeRooms #Action #TheEscapeRevolution #LosAngeles #California #USA

  • The Escape Revolution - "Armored Vehicle Heist"

LOCATION: Los Angeles, California, USA Photo above is property of The Escape Revolution Photos above are property of The Escape Revolution 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Armored Vehicle Heist 📅 DATE PLAYED: August 20, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Heist 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 3 ppl): 7/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-8 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: $46.00 - $59.00/ pp ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes [47:07] 📖 THE STORY Yesterday, your team pulled off the near-impossible, capturing an armoured truck full of cash! The police are closing in on the hideout, so you need to get to work recovering the millions from the vehicle before the cops catch you red handed! Did the rest of your team leave you everything you need in the garage, to break into the truck successfully? Are your skills up to the challenge? 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE We weren't quite prepared for how impressive the 'room' was going to be upon first sight. You would not be blamed for thinking you were in a real mechanic's garage. The walls are full of decorative auto signs, there are working props, and even an office. Everything looked incredibly authentic. Having a genuine armoured truck in an escape room, with built in special effects, deserves it's own Bullseye point! Obviously this is the focal point and highlight of the room. But the truck is not just a pretty prop, we get to climb in, on, and under it, interacting with it in many ways and many times. It was a lot of fun! Often companies struggle to keep their story involved or ways to make it remain relevant throughout. Here, the game is all about the story. Everything you do is directly and thematically linked to achieving your goal, making this an incredibly immersive experience. The puzzles were all thematically linked to the story and goal; making the vehicle safe, finding a way to get inside, and of course, stealing the loot. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Although the puzzles were very thematic, there wasn't a lot of substance to them, with a high emphasis on searching, rather than doing. Our GM likened the game more as a scavenger hunt than traditional escape room; which we would agree with. Whilst this was a somewhat negative point for us, it may not affect others in any way. Regarding the puzzles, we also wished there had been more team oriented challenges. Aside from the searching there isn't much to keep all players actively engaged, as most puzzles can be solved by one person only. • Paragon Escape Games - "Return of the Pharaohs"

LOCATION: Mesa, Arizona, USA Photo above is property of Paragon Escape Games Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: JEKYLL & HYDE 📅 DATE PLAYED: August 22, 2022 🎬 GENRE: Thriller 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 6/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-8 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 90 Mins. 💰 PRICE: $27.00/ pp - $30.00/ pp ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY Ra has bestowed his last bits of power in you to make you mortal for one hour. You must enter the ancient pyramid of Shabaka to overcome Set's curse so Ra can regain his power. If you succeed, you'll be able to rule Egypt once more. If you fail, you'll be cursed and forgotten forever... Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The set design was incredible. From cinematic sounds to lighting to fog effects, this felt like a Hollywood movie production. The statues of Egyptian Gods were massive, giving us that impression as if we've entered a real ancient temple. One thing that really amazed us was that the creator was able to synchronize the sound and lights during the entire game. It definitely built up the anticipation on what was going to happen next. We loved that there was a clear indication using lighting on what items had opened in the room. As we entered into the temple, we were welcomed by real sand! The props used were also a perfect match to the Egyptian themed room. As we completed puzzles, prerecorded voices (from the Gods) would give us more information on the developing story. This was a lot more immersive than us having to read something in a dimly lit setting. The puzzles were not too difficult, but we did appreciate the fact that there wasn't too much translating that we had to do as that's quite typical with other Egyptian themed room that we've played before. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK This "miss the mark" is debatable. There were a lot of "search and find" components in this room. If you are an enthusiast, you might think these aren't considered puzzles. But in this room, we didn't mind it so much mainly because there's only so much that you can do in an Egyptian room and still stick with the theme. One of the puzzles needed a little better cluing in terms of where to look as we were unsure for a while where the sound was coming. Some lights lit up at the beginning on some columns but we didn't have access to that particular puzzle yet. Not sure if those could be turned off to avoid confusion? 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This room is definitely considered as one of the top Egyptian themed escape rooms we've ever played. The set design and immersion was there from the beginning to the end. The ending was also quite memorable. The game master was great at giving us clear directions on certain items being used again as typically, we're used to using an item once and putting it away. I loved that I could take my shoes off and play this entire game barefoot in the sand. I think it really helped with my speed and was a determining factor with our escape. With two people, there was a lot of areas to cover, especially when there's a lot of "search and find". I definitely suggest coming with a larger group especially if you're a newbie. We highly recommend trying out this game if you are in the area. I see a lot of potential in Paragon Escape Games and I can't wait to check out their newer experiences coming in the near future! • Puzzle Effect (Phoenix) - "Curse on the Emerald Seas"

LOCATION: Phoenix, Arizona, USA Photo above is property of Puzzle Effect Photo above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Curse on the Emerald Seas 📅 DATE PLAYED: August 22, 2022 🎬 GENRE: Pirate Adventure 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: Up to 6 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: $31.95/ pp ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY You and your crew lost your ship during the Crimson Storm. All of a sudden, a mysterious but cursed ship known as The Emerald Seas appeared out of no where. You only have one hour to expel the cursed ship to claim it as your own before it disappears into the deep ocean once more... Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Instead of having the game master explain the lock usage in the lobby, the prerecorded intro video did a great job with explaining the only locks that will be used in the room that you're about to play and how they worked. This is a great way to make sure all grounds are covered and that all the players got the same information every time. The ambient lighting was great. It felt like we just embarked onto a creepy abandoned ship deck. The clues for the puzzles were easy to understand which led to a really smooth game play. Since the ship is cursed, our mission was to release the ghosts that were haunting the ship. The creator had a cool way of "releasing" the trapped souls. It was paired really well with spooky sounds and lighting. There was an interesting way of utilizing a tangram puzzle in this game. We haven't seen it done in combination with another item before so this was quite innovative. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The intro video for the actual story could've been better with an actor in character or relevant footage to the storyline instead. Some sound of water splashing or squeaky wood planks would help the immersion of the room. There was an item we used quite early on to open something but we didn't know there was another item on there that we would need later as well. It would be best to separate the two. Getting into the second room in this game felt extremely quick. It didn't really give us a chance to build up our anticipation level and we were already allowed into the second area. The number/letter locks felt out of place on a pirate ship. We suggest using magnetic locks or old fashion key locks instead. There was a hole in the wall that we thought was part of a puzzle but it wasn't. That will probably need to be repaired as it could be seen as a red herring. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This room played quite smoothly for us as two enthusiasts. We were able to divide and conquer as most parts of the game were not linear. There were some reading involved but it was pretty minimal. This is a great room for beginners who want to be surprised by some fundamental elements of an escape room. Are you brave enough to board The Emerald Seas ? You have 1 hour before he returns. If he catches you, you might become an ingredient in that elixir... Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE This room is their largest room in terms of square footage. If you have a large group, this room is the best to fit everyone in. If you are an enthusiast looking for a challenge, this is a great room as there's a lot of space to cover and plenty of puzzles to solve. The contrasting set designs for the various rooms we had encountered in the game made the story more intriguing as we were able to discovery the different personalities of Dr. Jekyll. There's a good amount of variations in the types of puzzles you'll encounter in this game. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The storyline felt weak to us. We didn't understand why we were in a certain place and what led us into that space at the first place. The ending also missed that "wow" moment. There was a riddle that we thought was a riddle but it ended up being just a giveaway in terms of the solution which was confusing to us. There was a mechanism that was very sensitive. Perhaps a more clear indication on how the prop should be placed would be nice as we tried a good amount of times and it wouldn't trigger. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? There's definitely a sense of mystery with this room. Right when we entered, we felt that there was more to it than a normal doctor's office and there was! The more puzzles we solved, the more secrets we revealed. Since the storyline was about Jekyll & Hyde, we felt that the room could be creepier. And I think the creator felt the same way because they have since revamped this room completely and it's now a much darker and scarier room called Mr. Hyde. The puzzles are all different so it's a brand new room. You should definitely check out what's hidden in Mr. Hyde's new lair and let us know what you thought about this new experience! LOCATION: Mesa, Arizona, USA Photo above is property of Untied Escapes of America - Mesa Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: CARN-EVIL 📅 DATE PLAYED: August 22, 2022 🎬 GENRE: Horror 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 6.5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 3-6 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: $30.00/ pp (weekdays), $42.00/ pp (weekends) - Min. of 3 ppl required ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY There's something horrific occurring in the neighborhood. All the children have gone missing and everyone thinks that it has to do with the clown that lives in the old mansion up the hill. You are their only hope in saving those children. Do you dare to enter inside the 100 year old mansion? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE There's a good amount of rooms to explore in this game so a large group can fit comfortably in here. The creepy dolls, ripped curtains and static TV all contributed to the eeriness of the room. There was a prop used at the beginning of the game that we thought added flavor to the theme. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Some props actually felt like red herrings as they were never utilized in puzzles but since there were clues around the room, it felt like they could be associated with the props. The props used in the first room felt a lot more coherent to the theme. I'm not sure about the rest of the game. Some puzzles felt like games we would see at a carnival but it had nothing to do with the story. One puzzle that had to do with time was confusing to us as it was difficult to determine which ones we had to read for the solution. There was a puzzle that we had to visualize numbers and we thought the prop used to reveal the answer was very confusing as we didn't know where to look. It was also hard to see under the lighting and there were no clear instructions on the order. There were multiple rooms in this game, but we felt that some rooms had a large space but was only utilized for one puzzle. It would be great if more puzzles could be incorporated into those rooms. One puzzle utilized props that needed to be replaced as some were broken and had colors on them that was not relevant to the puzzle. It made it visually more difficult to see the answer. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This game started out great at being an eerie themed room but as the game progressed on, the spookiness got lost in the transition. The latter part of the game felt like random carnival puzzles that were thrown in just because there's a clown involved. We didn't feel like we were searching for the missing kids nor did we rescue them. If the story and conclusion could be more developed, it would make it a more solid game. United Escapes of America is looking to expand into more locations in the near future. Currently they have 17 games for you to choose from and I'm sure you'll be able to find a theme that appeals to your liking! • The Curiosity Shop RI - "Ewan Watarmy's Bunker 2: The List"

Above photo property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Ewan Watarmy's Bunker 2: The List 📅 DATE PLAYED: February 1, 2020 🎬 GENRE: Adventure, War 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 3 ppl): 6.5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: Up To 6ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins 💰 PRICE: $25-30/PP ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Public/Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY We have been sent down to a bunker under The Towers in Narragansett. There’s a bomb that’s been left there by Ewan Watarmy and he hasn’t been able to be reached for days so this is our time to infiltrate his bunker and defuse the bomb before it sets off! Above video property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE We love it when escape rooms try to incorporate local history into the storyline for their rooms. The Towers is a historical structure and the only remnant of the Narragansett Pier Casino built in the 1880's. It looks like a great place to visit for a photo op after the game. Even though the room didn’t have much high tech, the basic locks and keys were satisfying to solve with the different types of puzzles as it also fit the bunker storyline. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The white walls and bright light in the room didn’t feel much like a bunker. Perhaps dimming the lighting and wall papering/painting the wall could help with adding a bit more immersion to the room's set design. Some upkeep may be needed as some clue papers were faded or missing some corners. We had a hard time reading one of the clues. There was a time when a clue paper came in for a puzzle we already solved which we found confusing. We didn’t feel any surprising element in the room since most of it was visible right when you walked in. This could be challenging due to the room size but it would be great if the final puzzle could be somewhere less expected where it could create a more surprising element when it's revealed. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? If you are a good searcher, you’ll enjoy this room. Due to the size of the room, our recommended team size is 2-3 people. Other than searching, most of the puzzles felt linear so your group would probably be divided with searchers and puzzle solvers. 🔎 HINT One of them may look like the others but it’s not. ** UPDATE - We regret to inform you that "Curiosity Shop RI" has closed its doors. Above photo property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Dr. Popwell and Mrs. Young's Lab 📅 DATE PLAYED: February 1, 2020 🎬 GENRE: Mystery 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 5 ppl): 6.5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: Up To 10ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins 💰 PRICE: $25-30/PP ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Public/Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes Above video property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📖 THE STORY We are here to investigate the disappearance of Dr. Popwell. Her assistant Siri thinks her replacement Mrs. Young had something to do with it. We only have an hour to discover what happened to Dr. Popwell before Mrs. Young returns to her lab! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE There were various types of puzzles in this room, which if you have a large group it would be very easy to spread out and work on multiple things at the same time. We enjoyed a surprising scenery change on the set design aspect in this room which was an improvement from their bunker room. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK It didn’t feel like a clear path as to what we were trying to solve in terms of the storyline. At the end, we might have found out what had happened to Dr. Popwell using our imaginations, but we did not have clear evidence from the story or puzzles to direct us there. A stronger ending puzzle reveal would help this element. Some props felt like they needed updating as some words or corners were worn out. We were surprised that we had to use a set of clues twice as our usual habit after playing many rooms was to put away items we’ve already used. This made us ask for a hint ultimately and of course only to find out we’re overthinking again. We felt that the red herring component could be removed since it didn’t add much value to the room and even though it was glued down, the players still were able to do damage to it. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This is a puzzle heavy room. If you are up for the challenge, come with 3 people or less. We do recommend at least 5-6 people for this room mainly because of the number of puzzles involved. Organization is the key to success for this room. Make sure you group things you think is relevant together. We had a lot of fun playing with our friends from RI Riddle Room and we look forward to seeing Curiosity Shop’s new creations! 🔎 HINT Do you see anything different? ** UPDATE - We regret to inform you that "Curiosity Shop RI" has closed its doors. • Escape Rhode Island - "The Mausoleum"

Above photo provided by Escape Rhode Island 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: The Mausoleum 📅 DATE PLAYED: February 4, 2019 🎬 GENRE: Mystery, Horror 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 7/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: Up To 6ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins 💰 PRICE: $28/PP ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Public 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes Above video property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Our last stop in Rhode Island is at Escape Rhode Island in Providence, RI. Escape Rhode Island is situated right near a beautiful lake. There's tons of street parking available right in front of the building. They are located on the second floor and there is an elevator available. Unfortunately, it has not been fixed in awhile. Once you enter, there is a small waiting area w/ a couch and a leaderboard for all 4 rooms that they currently offer. The room that they recommended we try today is "The Mausoleum". We were fortunate enough to meet w/ one of the managers & developers of the room to learn more about the company. What's interesting about "The Mausoleum" is that part of your objective is to find a way into the room (the mausoleum). The decor of the "The Mausoleum" definitely set the tone for an eerie storyline. The puzzle design was creative and stuck w/ the theme throughout the game. The one thing that we felt prohibited us from fully enjoying the game was their decision to provide players w/ one crank flashlight. We understand that they are sticking to the theme, but it's extremely time-consuming and difficult to operate puzzles and crank at the same time. Unless one person is volunteers or is assigned to be the designated flashlight cranker. Other than that, the customer service was excellent and the staff was extremely hospitable! We look forward to returning to try their other games soon! We don't want to go into detail and ruin any surprises for you, but if you'd like more information on the room, feel free to email us. • Escape Rhode Island - "The Bunker"

Above photo provided by Escape Rhode Island 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: The Bunker 📅 DATE PLAYED: Feburary 1, 2020 🎬 GENRE: War, Action 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 9/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-10ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins 💰 PRICE: $28/PP ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Public/Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY Tonight, our team will be sending off Missile Battery PR-79 for one last test before it goes fully operational in the AM. But something doesn’t seem right… we needed to figure out what was wrong so we could complete our mission. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The concept of splitting up the team at the beginning to communicate and pass on puzzle information was engaging. There were some props truly authentic to the war era, including a testing device that we’ve never seen before and it was fun to see it in “action”. In the latter part of the game, even though we didn’t get to experience this puzzle due to time, the device looked really intricate in design and seemed like a “sweat maker”. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK We didn’t feel the connection of the puzzle designs with the storyline. It felt more like we were at war and trying to defend ourselves from enemies. Some props in the room didn’t feel like they belonged in a bunker setting. The puzzles also felt somewhat out of place with the story. There were a few puzzles that malfunctioned on that day and since we didn’t get an immediate response from the game master, we just continued to be confused on why nothing happened when we finally solved the puzzle that was meant for a group of 10 people (the game should have been set to be able to be played by 2 people as they are able to adapt accordingly but some miscommunication has left our game to be set to be played by 10 people on that day). So if you are booking with less people in the group, make sure you confirm with the game master before playing the game. *Update*: The manager did inform us after the game that all the malfunctioning devices have been fixed. Some props and set design needed an update as they felt worn out and at times it was hard to read the clues. We also did not get to see the full effect of lights or sound due to the malfunctioning (if there were any). 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? We can’t really give a straight up recommendation for this room being that we only had 30 minutes play time and the rest was a quick walk-through from the game master. We will say that this definitely felt like a difficult room so go with a big group. If you like working with mechanics and war themed puzzles, you should give this room a go. 🔎 HINT Continue onwards from that point, don’t start from the beginning. Additional Info Street Parking Up a flight of stairs (no elevator) Lobby with waiting area & merchandise for sale We only had about 30min to play the game as we were late for the booking time. We had a quick walk-through with the game master so this game is based on an incomplete experience. • Ocean State Escape - "Mummy's Curse"

LOCATION: Johnston, Rhode Island, USA Above photo property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Mummy's Curse 📅 DATE PLAYED: May 30, 2021 🎬 GENRE: Adventure 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 4 ppl): 5.5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: Up To 10ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins 💰 PRICE: $33/PP ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY There's something peculiar going on in the Egyptian exhibit section of the museum. It appears that Felix, the night security guard couldn't resist tampering with Akmenrah's Tomb! Now the mummy has awakened and it's up to you to break the..."Mummy's Curse"!! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The set design for "Mummy's Curse" takes place inside a museum at the Egyptian exhibition. The warm torch lighting added a nice ambience to the room. Ocean State Escape did a great job with the collection of artifacts and showcasing the history behind each of them. We actually felt like we were learning about ancient Egyptian history while playing the game. Although this is a single room escape room, Ocean State Escape was still able to utilize different tech elements to provide us with surprises along the way. Since most of the mummy-themed games that we've played took place inside of a tomb, it was nice to experience a different storyline. If you've watched the movie "Night at the Museum" before then get ready to become a character inside the move yourself! Most of the room was not linear so there's plenty of space for large groups to divide and conquer. The puzzles stuck with the theme and the props closely reflected the Egyptian culture. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK As enthusiasts, we solved a puzzle through a hint that was given prior to solving it ourselves through decoding. That part confused us. Ocean State Escape explained to us after that most people found that puzzle being difficult. Perhaps a second version of the game could be implemented for enthusiasts by taking that hint out of the game. One puzzle stumped us for awhile. The wording and alignment of the props didn't feel like they were on the same page. If I had to suggest something to enhance the experience, it would be to create more of a sense of urgency throughout the game (especially towards the end). Since Akmenrah had awoken from the release of the curse, perhaps by adding in some flickering lights and sound effects would help intensify the storyline. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This is the 3rd time revisiting our friends at Ocean State Escape. So far we've played all 3 games that they currently have available (read our reviews on "Nonna's House" and "Mischievous Elves"), Ocean State Escape is a family-owned business and when you visit them, they really make you feel like family! All of their games are made in house and with love. They build the games with one thing in mind and that is for the players to have FUN. In terms of difficulty, this one could be a bit more challenging due to more puzzles, dim lighting in certain occasions and identifying hieroglyphics. I would play the other two games as a warm up and then save the final face off with the "mummy's curse"! • Ocean State Escape - "The Mischievous Elves"

LOCATION: Johnston, Rhode Island, USA Above photo is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: The Mischievous Elves 📅 DATE PLAYED: February 1, 2020 🎬 GENRE: Adventure, Holiday 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 7/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: Up To 6ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins 💰 PRICE: $28-33/PP ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Public/Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY The mischievous elves have been naughty this year and locked up the "Naughty & Nice" list. We must solve the puzzles and clues that they have left behind to restore the Christmas spirit before time runs out! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Full disclosure, I have a serious addiction for Christmas. When I entered this room, it felt like December 25th. Not only was the décor impeccable, the room even smelled like Christmas! Although the space was quite small, Ocean State Escape was able to utilize every inch of the room and still surprised us with lovely “reveals”. Even though the room has been running for a few months already, the upkeep was great. Everything still felt freshly painted and nothing needed any repairs. The mix use of physical locks and tech made the experience a fully satisfying one. The puzzles were different, clever, and entertaining. We really enjoyed the fact that everything pertaining to Christmas was utilized from lights to music to physical props. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK It would be nice to hear the actual music playing along with the puzzle aspects as it could add more immersion to the Christmas spirit. The “hint” papers could be better designed to be incorporated into the story. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Due to the size of the room, we would suggest 2-3 people being a comfortable team. However, don't let the size of the room fool you, there’s a lot to do! If you haven’t done escape rooms before, you should still gather a bigger team. This room is a joy to play especially with family or if you love the holidays. We can’t wait to see what Ocean State Escape does with their new room - “Mummy’s Curse” as they seem to step up their game every time we return for a visit! 🔎 HINT Maybe it’s not the obvious one. • Ocean State Escape - "Nonna's House"

LOCATION: Johnston, Rhode Island, USA Above photo is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Nonna's House 📅 DATE PLAYED: September 15, 2019 🎬 GENRE: Mystery 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: Up To 10ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins 💰 PRICE: $28-33/PP ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Public/Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes Ocean State Escape is a newly opened escape room in Johnson, Rhode Island. There’s plenty of parking when you arrive. You will need to climb up a set of stairs to get to the entrance. The lobby felt like we’ve just entered an aquarium. The nice turquoise paint with ocean themed props for décor created a calming and joyful ambience for the players prior to the exciting game action. There’s a large event room which can accommodate corporate gatherings or family functions. Currently they have just one operating escape room, but many are in the making. When we first heard of the name of this escape room “Nonna’s house”, we thought it was going to be a horror-themed room (reminded us of the movie - "The Visit"), but apparently, Nonna means Grandma in Italian. We definitely recommend this room for family fun times and our recommended team size is 3-4 people. The storyline was that our Grandma had gone missing and something was wrong and we were sent into her house to find out what had happened. The set design was pretty much a replica of what you would find at your grandma’s house. The attention to detail not only was on the props but also on the wall decors. We liked the different kind of uses with the props to create puzzles as they were all reasonably in line with the story. There was a lot to do in the first part of the game which had led us to believe we were pretty much at the end but boy were we wrong. You should pace yourself evenly through the beginning and end parts of the game. The latter part of the décor felt a little less prepared than the beginning part. It would be great to see some more “hidden” elements with more “wow” effects. Ocean State Escape is a family business and they are extremely friendly. If you have played there before and did not complete the room, they would allow you to finish it with extra time or for free again next time pending on your availability with time. They are all enthusiasts of escape rooms and we can feel the love that they pour into their games. We can’t wait to return during Christmas as I think “Santa” is making a nice present for us in his shop right now!
