Being stuck in the asylum and poisoned by Dr. Kieling, we finally found the cure at the end. Now we need to escape out of this place! Video above has been provided by ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE From the lobby ambience to the daunting intro performance by the game master to being led to the room, it felt like we were at a physical asylum living through the real experience. Great concept of the confinement segment as it made the experience special yet added to the suspense. We really enjoyed a few unique physical puzzles that we haven’t seen anywhere before, yet it’s so cleverly intertwined with the story line. We always enjoy a room that can incorporate the clue system into the story line. It definitely made the room more immersive. Props were well made and fit the storyline seamlessly. Puzzles were all enjoyable and had a great flow. Love the design of the ending component. It’s refreshing to see a reasonable yet enjoyable strong finish. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK A puzzle in the latter part of the game had an insertion component. When I tried to put it inside, it got stuck. Eventually, I was able to push it in and make it work. The beginning felt a lot more puzzle heavy than the latter room even though it was equal in size. It would be great if a few more puzzles could be incorporated since we really like the set design for that room and would love to see it being utilized more. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? After playing with so many horror themed escape rooms, this one can definitely be added to our top room list. The set design, lighting, and sound had the complete package. Even with no live actors, you’ll feel chills down your spine from time to time. We were able to escape with 2 people, but the room is spacious enough for more. Our recommended size is 4. Besides the eeriness, something in the air doesn't quite feel right. The treatments provided by Dr. Robert Kieling and the nurses might be the cause of the recent disappearances of the patients. What type of experiments is the doctor performing? You have to find out before it's too late... Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Lost Games have really fun and creative game masters. Every game's intro is done with them dressed in costumes and in character. The creepy vibe of the asylum was detected even before we started the game. The dimly lit check-in desk and the "preparation" we had to go through before sending us into the room was a nice add-on. I can imagine the horror level going up a notch during Halloween for sure. The game flow was great. There wasn't anywhere during the game that we were felt confused or had to stop to ask why we were doing something. The special effect towards the end gave a nice conclusion to the storyline. The game master's involvement also intrigued us to find out more of what happened in the asylum in "The Asylum - Part 2: Play Time". 🧩 MISSED THE MARK For enthusiasts, we felt that there wasn't enough puzzles in this game. I think we had about 20 minutes left when we escaped. The props needed updating. The creator did say they will be revamping this room soon. One of the key pads we used didn't make "peep" noises when we entered the code so we were confused as to if they took our input or not. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This is a great beginner room especially if you love horror and eerie themed stories. There are no live actors (usually, I can't guarantee if the monsters come out to play during Halloween) but due to the set design you always feel like someone's watching you (besides the game master). One thing we always loved about Lost Games is how involved they allow their game masters to be. When we spoke with one of them, he said he really enjoys doing this because he sees it as a performance and not a job. We felt the attention we were getting from all of them from beginning of the game to end. It seems like the reading that you received wasn't what you had anticipated. Will you find a way to change your disastrous fate within an hour? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Lost Games have really fun and creative game masters. Every game's intro is done with them dressed in costumes and in character. This game also had a live actor in the room with us. The creator gave the live actor a lot of freedom on how they want to interact with the players. Our storyline was a bit different than what was written on the website (unless that's the intended twist). Since this game has about 16/17 puzzles and it's up to the actor to pick out which ones they want your team to solve, you might not be able to see all of them. For this reason, the game could be re-playable. You might get a totally different set of puzzles and experience next time especially with a different game master. We liked this different concept as it's not a typical escape room. The game is score-based. You'll earn coins for the puzzles you solved. The coins could also be used to purchase items (which will be used in conjunction with puzzles) or ask for hints. You only have a limited time to solve each puzzle. If you failed to solve a puzzle, the game master can choose to put it away or bring it back for a second try. There were moments where players were chosen to complete different tasks. Some needed a bit of bravery and others might make you the star of the group. There will be guaranteed laughter. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The set design needed some revamping and the props definitely needed updating. Full disclosure: This game was purchase from Level Games and doesn't really represent the quality of Lost Games that we've played before. One of the tactile puzzles was hard to maneuver due to the condition of the props. One of the puzzles that required visualization was quite difficult to see in the dim lighting and some parts of the props used felt like they were coming off of the wall. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? The ever changing storyline (pending on the game master you'll get that day) is a really unique concept. There's also no clock in the room. It feels like you really have put your fate in the hands of the live actor. They are in control of the time and will monitor when you'll receive that final puzzle. That's when you'll actually feel like time is of the essence. There are two endings to this game (so you could actually fail). We recommend a larger group as it could be more fun to cheer on your teammates during a solo quest or divide and conquer to cover more puzzles. Currently the build feels like a carnival type of vibe. Escape Room Las Vegas won our hearts over with their "One Eyed Jack" room back in November of last year. They were one of our 2019 Bullseye Award winners. We were super excited when said they are coming out with a remote escape room as we already knew the quality of their games. They did not disappoint! We've played close to 30 remote escape rooms from all over the world by now and this was by far one of the best overall experiences we've had. From the creativity of the story (our avatar is our new "recruit" and we are helping him from mission command), puzzle design, camera clarity and sturdiness, set design with special effects, user friendly inventory list, and avatar's character were all spot on! When the owner was asking for feedback, this was the first time I really didn't have anything to say except, great job! You can tell the owner put a lot of time and effort into researching before he decided to roll out this game. He's played over 12 remote escape rooms himself and as an escape room enthusiasts, he knew what we were looking for. This kind of dedication is what makes a game great. There are two points I wanted to single out that made this game special. Many companies haven't figured out a user friendly inventory list which makes a game that could've been great frustrating for players. Some have too many tabs and some have no inventory list at all. This game's inventory list was very simple with just a 360 overview of the room and as items were discovered you were given a code to be able to see it on a larger scale. Once the item was used, it'll be removed from your inventory list. We were able to enjoy the game rather than focus most of our energy on learning how to use the inventory or read blurry images. The other stand out moment for this game was the avatar's character play. If you are lucky enough to have Wayne as your avatar, definitely make him do a back flip (jk, but he'll parkour over a chair for you). Right from the beginning he was in character and got us laughing throughout the game. The "searching" aspect of the game was completely done by him in a very natural way so our team could focus all our energy on the puzzles. We enjoyed this because we didn't feel like we were controlling a robot but rather a real live team member was playing with us and we were in this together. We understand it's very difficult to gauge the right amount of control that an avatar should and not everyone has a background in acting but Trapped!'s avatars have it down! Although we were the fastest team to get through the game so far, I almost didn't want it to end. I know we don't do ratings anymore on rooms but if we could, we would give them a perfect score. Now he is extremely angry that you've entered his personal space and this time you'll need to make it out of his study. What will you have to do this time to escape? Someone help! Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The debriefing area was a great little space to build up tension before putting us into the room. The beginning part of the game gave a little overview of the backstory in a unique way. It almost felt like watching a flashback. The puzzles were unique in ways where teamwork was needed on some occasions and at other times, individual missions took over. The lighting was controlled perfectly with the developing story. From dim-lit to bright to pitch dark, the creator knew exactly when to bring out the eeriness. The sound effects also perfectly complemented the lighting in many scenarios. The live actor was great at playing her part and interacting with the players. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There was a riddle that wanted us to look at an item that felt very vague towards the beginning. Eventually, we had to ask for a hint. The hint system in this room will also take some getting used to. You probably won't receive a hint right away and it's also based on the GM on how and if a hint would be given to you. The final puzzle's clue was also quite difficult to interpret. We felt like a little nudge would be nice especially if the GM sees the team being at the finish line. The live actor in this game didn't provide as much assistance here but in "The Basement", they were a lot more helpful. It might be because of this live actor's character. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? \This game is a sequel to The Basement (although we didn't feel that prior knowledge of the story was necessary). You will get a little debrief anyway that could link up the story. This game felt more like an immersive experience rather than a conventional escape room so we had to adjust our mindset and it took some time to get used to it. You are characters in this thriller movie and not just puzzle solvers. There was even an unconventional prop that we had to use for one of the puzzles that we would never see used in a conventional escape room. One thing that I am hoping is for the GM to be a little more helpful in hint-giving because as a player I would love to see all the amazing set designs and enjoy the entire storyline instead of perhaps just seeing the first or second room and then the time is already up (especially when this is only a 45-minute game). Our favorite part of the experience was our interaction with the actor. Normally I'm a scaredy-cat, but I was surprised at my participation level in this game. If I can do it, you can! May luck be on your side… Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The prep work and debriefing at the beginning were great. It undoubtedly enhanced the anticipation level of the players. This set design really captured what a psycho killer's den should look like. I was especially amazed by the sound effects that alerted the players of the "existence" of the killer without an actual reveal. The actor was great at his part and knew exactly when to nudge us in the right direction. The game flow was great. Other than a few instances where we were unable to find something, all the puzzles made sense and went along with the theme. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The beginning felt like a puzzle was missing and perhaps one could be added for us to get "in". Some of the solutions felt too obvious. They were just written in plain sight so we were unsure whether to just try it or not. We did however change our mindset to once again to being characters in this immersive experience rather than puzzle solvers. But it would be nice if they were at least more hidden, maybe in a box that we had to solve a puzzle so at least we know they are important enough to try on a lock. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? We enjoyed this game more than the "THE STUDY" probably because it had more puzzles and more space to roam around. There were also more chances to interact with the actor. The set design for this room also hit the spot for us and I'm sure a lot of horror fans would feel the same. Moreover, the live actor in this game interacted with us a lot more and gave us subtle nudges that were perfect to push us along at a good pace. If you have a larger team and more experienced players, this room would be better suited for you. I can't wait to be "captured" again at their CA location and hopefully to be able to successfully escape the two different experiences there as well! From Wendy's apartment to Captain Hook's ship to landing in Neverland, we were able to experience it all! It was impressive how the creator utilized the space she had to make us feel like we were actually "traveling" from one place to another. The lighting added various types of perception for us as players to experience being indoors and outdoors. We really enjoyed looking up at the starry night skies in front of Captain Hook's ship. There was a mixture of physical and logic puzzles. Most of them were actions that went with the storyline and there were even a few magical reveals along the way. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK We were on the fence about one of the puzzles as we felt that the clue was a bit unclear on what we were looking for. An item used on a clue was fainting, making it hard to read. The ending felt inconclusive. Perhaps adding some victory music would help as we weren't completely sure that we were done. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? I'm a huge fan of Disney and everything relating to fairytales so even before going into this game, I was already mesmerized by their lobby ambience. If I were to open an escape room company, this is the exact type of theming I would be going for. Since this is a family business and everything is made in-house, it's not a Disney type of budget production but you definitely feel the love that has gone into the creation of their rooms. With that said, I thoroughly enjoyed reliving "Neverland". This room is great for adults and children and with a little imagination, anything could happen! As you entered the museum, you realized that all the artifacts have been stolen? You suspect it must be that evil Rumplestiltskin. Will you be able to recover everything in time? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Instead of a normal introductory story by the GM or a TV, we rather enjoyed the unique way this room opened its scene. All the props have been carefully handcrafted to feel "magical". Everything truly resembled things that we would have discovered inside a fairytale and the creator did a great job bringing them to life. Our favorite piece was the giant fairytale book that we unlocked, as it was a beautiful centerpiece that provided a clear indication on where to look for subtle clues if we got stuck. The room was unique and clever in the sense that it combined various storylines into one big, giant fairytale! There was a really creative way of utilizing a transportation device that got us into "another world". 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There was a puzzle in the beginning that didn't provide confirmation sounds for inputs so we were confused as to if our thought process was on the right track or not. One of the props that we used did not fit into the fairytale timeline. Maybe a different prop could be used to implement the same puzzle concept? An item used on a clue was fainting, making it hard to read. One of the props used for a puzzle felt out of place as to where the it could be used since the prop itself would not normally be utilized that way. The last thing we had to do felt irrelevant to the story. It could have just ended with all the artifacts being in place and a conclusion to the mission (maybe with Rumplestiltskin making an appearance?). If some music could be added to the adventure, it would be like sprinkling the "magical" dust to the room. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Fairytales are my favorite escape room genre, making it a little bias for me in terms of the review. Being that this is a family business and everything is build in-house, they did a great job with paying attention to the details of the decorations and putting their own little touches on their version of the fairytales. Although we've seen a lot of puzzle concepts implemented in this room, it was great to relive them through a "mythical" way! For enthusiasts, you might not need the entire 90 minutes but there's plenty of puzzles in the room. If you are a big fairytale fan like me, you should put on your princess dress (optional but highly recommended) and go explore this enchanted world now! There was about 4-5 puzzles and being that it was only 5 minutes long, it definitely pumped up our adrenaline before playing the other games. So if you need a warm up, this is a great way to do so! **UPDATE: We regret to inform you that "Rumplestiltskin" is no longer available. Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Some mechanisms that the creator used to "open" or trigger a reveal in this room felt "magical". The set design and props in this room felt like they came straight out of a fairytale storybook. Each room resembled a different "chapter" and they all transformed in their own ways. The ending made us feel very happy and cheerful. I love the music & lighting that went with the finale. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK An answer to a puzzle felt too obvious with the nearby clues. Just to avoid players able to guess, we suggest changing it. There was a puzzle that required one of the senses. This could be difficult for people who are sensitive or unable to detect those clues. One of the puzzles needed a bit more information or instruction on how to operate it. It takes a lot of time to type our hints to the GM and wait for them to type back. We feel like this type of cluing takes us out of the immersion that we are in. Hopefully, the clue system could be changed in the future. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? I love coming back to this location as I'm a die-hard fan of fairytales (Snow White is one of my favorites). The owner and GM are always dressed in character too. It just makes the experience that much more entertaining. Being a family business, I can't believe everything is made in-house. The creators have a passion for fairytales and you can tell from the details they put into the decors. The puzzles need a little polishing so that they could fit into the storylines more but overall we always have a magical time when visiting Once Upon An Escape! You have to follow the King of Thieves footsteps in order to find the magic lamp. It's the only way to get you back home... Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The transformations of set design for each "chapter" clearly depicted scenes from the Arabian Nights. You might even see a starry night! There was a light puzzle in the latter part of the room that we hadn't seen used in the same way before in other escape rooms. The finale gave a satisfying reveal. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One of the clues felt like it was randomly placed on a wall. It could be designed better to go with the theme. Brandon had seen this type of puzzle before so we accidentally solved this one first and skipped a few puzzles. If this clue could be hidden on a paper until later on, this could be avoided. Some of the illustrated clues in this room were a bit hard to interpret. We had to ask for clarification after the game but it wasn't as obvious to us during the gameplay. Some locks used in the game felt out of place with the theme. It takes a lot of time to type our hints to the GM and wait for them to type back. We feel like this type of cluing takes us out of the immersion that we are in. Hopefully, the clue system could be changed in the future. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This room is one of their older rooms. In comparison, this game felt less organized in terms of puzzles and game flow. There was no storyline but that could be easily rectified. The props in the room also could use a facelift. However, they are currently working on a new room right now and we're excited to see what that's all about. The Escape Company has two locations - Orlando, Florida and Savannah, Georgia. The Orlando location currently offers four rooms total. We were fortunate enough to meet w/ the owner to learn more about the company. The lobby area is spacious and comfortable w/ a bar available for drinks. The owner recommended that we try their hardest room (not to mention hardest in Orlando) - "Pandorum". The minute that you step inside "Pandorum" you are fully immersed into the story. The decor was quite impressive and it really enhanced our experience. Was the room as challenging as they claimed it to be? Not really. It was challenging mainly because there was a lot to do and we were a total of three people. One of the puzzles was trial and error and didn't require logic which also became time consuming. The room is mainly played in a very dim lit setting and there were only 2 lights available in the room for 3 people. We had to request a third light from our game master so that we all could work on puzzles simultaneously. There were some unique puzzles and challenges that we never seen before which played along very well w/ the theme and storyline. I believe we could've escaped w/ 5-10 more minutes since we completed 85% of the room. Each game can be played as a remote escape room or as a "hybrid" game (Will explain this in detail in the review below). We've tried 2 of their 3 games in the two different categories and below are our thoughts on each of them. Company: Lockbox Escape Room Country: USA 🇺🇸 Language: English Time: 60 Minutes Game: Timeline Genre: Sci-Fi Type of Game: Audio Escape Room/ Hybrid 🗣👂 Date Played: 6/18/2020 Difficulty (based on 2 players): 5/10 Size of Team: Unlimited Price: $49.99 (2 Connections)/ $4.99 (each additional) The Story: There has been an explosion and a toxin was released in the air. Our father became a victim to the attack but thankfully he had locked us safely in a bunker. Inside the bunker we discovered he was the scientist that created the project. He felt very guilty and invented a time machine in hopes to go back to fix everything. Now this job was passed on to us... We decided to try what Lockbox Escape Room had categorized as the "Hybrid" version of this game. A 360 view of the room was presented to us through a separate link. We were able to zoom in and out on certain spots on the photo. The game started with a prerecorded video of an avatar giving us a full tour of the room. After that's done, the timer of the game started. An inventory list of locks and clues needed for the puzzles were presented to us on the screen. If we wanted to take a closer look at a clue we would inform the game master and he would be able to zoom in for us. As we opened locks (by telling the game master), the used items would go away on the inventory list. A prerecorded video would play every time we opened a lock or a clue so you could see the avatar actually doing the action in the escape room. When a new area opened up, the previous steps would be repeated. Initially we didn't know how we would react to this new concept. There was definitely mixed feelings about this format. We loved the fact that the searching component had been completely eliminated and we could solely focus on the puzzles. Since the room wasn't really focused on set design, we thought we didn't miss much from that aspect. This saved a lot of time on game play and we were able to finish the game in about 37 minutes or so. The puzzles had a nice flow and we able to easily correlate them since they were all in front of us on the inventory list. We did miss some aspect of being able to see the game master trying the locks or the actions we wanted them to do (which they would only be able to tell us verbally that it was incorrect or that nothing happened). This format still felt more fun than just a live stream puzzle game on PDF or audio escape room since the prerecorded video still felt more engaging. We still put this format in our audio escape game category mainly because the avatar was not physically in the escape room during the game. New players would probably love this format since it is cheaper in price and makes the game easier to follow. With this format, Lockbox Escape Room will be able to simultaneously run many of the same game at once. So if you have a large group of people, you might what to try it in competition mode! Game: CIA Taskforce: The Gamer Genre: Detective Type of Game: Audio Escape Room/ Hybrid 🗣👂 Date Played: 6/19/2020 Difficulty (based on 3 players): 6/10 Size of Team: Max 6 connections Price: $49.99 (2 Connections)/ $24.99 (each additional) The Story: We woke up in a strange room along with other members of our CIA team. It seemed like the infamous assassin, "The Gamer", (who we were tracking down) kidnapped us while we were sleeping. We have to escape before he comes back! We played this game in the familiar format of a remote escape room. We were given the 360 room photo through a different portal link. You are able to zoom in and out of certain spots on the photo. Darian, our avatar did a great job giving us an overview of the room before the timer started. As a team of three we were able to complete the game in 40 minutes and 18 seconds. This gen 1 room had some solid puzzles and we enjoyed the fact that everything had it's purpose and there were no red herrings. If we had to pick which game type we enjoyed more, we would probably still have to stick with this one. We had a lot of fun interacting with Darian. Seeing him trying our suggestions and opening locks in real time made us feel like we're playing in the physical room. Hopefully we'll be able to play in a physical location soon (if we still remember how to open locks). We are so happy to see many have reopened. Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE This is the first we've seen a set design where we're "fooled" by the outer appearance. Yes, it's a house with a porch and a living room...But, there's more... The puzzles will reveal certain parts of the story and as you solve them, you'll get your next task. It's a pretty linear room but we didn't mind it as a lot of the puzzles did enjoy teamwork to complete. You can tell the quality of the build of the cabin, dog house, props used were all top notch. Although the room has been played for quite some time now, the upkeep is there. Our favorite moment was when we solved a puzzle but unsure what had happened and discovered a sudden change in scene when we looked outside. There were many hidden areas in this house. It was like discovering a secret stash house and this matched the exact intention of the game. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One physical puzzle took us quite awhile as it's pretty sensitive as to where you need to hit it. We tried many times and it looked like it hit the target dead center but nothing happened. One color puzzle in the latter part of the game could be a bit confusing as to the count. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? One thing that we really loved at Legends Escape Rooms is that they decorate the entrance to every single one of their games. The lighting and ambience of the hallway really set the tone for the players before they even enter the game. This is the second time we've played a moonshine themed room and it's definitely our favorite so far. Everything was perfectly intertwined together to make this room shine. The puzzles were not too difficult for enthusiasts and it's a great room for beginners to tap into the excitement for escape rooms. The secret reveals alone will make you want more. The cell bars were made from real meter. The locks and props used in the room were also very authentic to the medieval times. This room had a nice mixture of logic puzzles and physical puzzles. We each had different moments where a certain puzzle really fit our personal liking. It was great to be able to utilize each other's strength. The latter part of the room was able to bring together everything we've done and that was a great way to complete an ending. The final reveal was quite satisfying as it's a nice eye catching piece. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There's one item in the room that was hard to find especially with that type of lighting. Perhaps a clue would help with what we're looking for. There's not much of a storyline. It's more of a streamline of puzzles from one room to another. It would be nice if each room had a backstory with a name and a purpose for what it's for. Some music might help with the ambience especially towards the end when the execution is near. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? For enthusiasts, if you're looking for puzzles, you've came to the right place. When we first entered the cell, it didn't seem like there was a lot to do but as the game processed, more and more puzzles came about. At times, the puzzles are linear and other times we were able to divide and conquer. As a two person team, we were pretty tight on time. This room can easily fit a larger group so feel free to bring some helpers. If you prefer more storyline and a less challenging room, "Moonshine Cabin" is a great choice. Either way you'll have a lot of fun at Legends Escape Room. We're very impressed by this family business as all the games are build in-house. What seems like a normal apartment on the outside will later turn into "The Cyclist's Lab". The hint system played into the character. The puzzles had a nice flow and were sticking to the storyline. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Some decors and clue papers in the room needs updating. For players that does not like Math (I actually don't mind them), be prepared for a bit of challenge. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This room is a basic gen 1 room as the owners build all of these in house with not so high of a budget but definitely with care and love. They are enthusiasts themselves and Time Trap was actually one of the first escape rooms to open in the area. I do think there's potential in terms of unique ideas but for enthusiasts that have played hundreds of rooms, we would like to see some upgrades to room quality to catch up to the current market. The puzzles were traditional ones you might seen in a lot of escape rooms. If you only care about the puzzle aspect, they do have a room called "The Box" where all you do is open locks on boxes that are full of puzzles.
