According to local legend there’s a hidden diamond in there. But this mine has been burning underground since 1962… Will we make it out alive? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE As enthusiasts, we really appreciate it when we don’t need to hand hold flashlights. It makes searching and solving puzzles much easier. In this case, the miners’ hats with a light conveniently fit our needs and the storyline. The set design made us feel like we just entered deep into a mine. There was real coal in the room! The temperature was cooler in this room than the one we just played. We enjoyed the aspect of the light setting being controlled by us as the story developed. All the puzzles made sense with the story and as a group of 6, we were able to work on different puzzles simultaneously. The attention to detail on one particular prop really “wowed” us. From the visual aspect to the sound effect, we really felt “the impact”. A physical puzzle was fun although I was the only one that experienced it. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Some parts of the room were not as spacious so some members would miss out on what puzzles were in there and how it was solved. One of the puzzles seemed to have not reset correctly. So somehow, we skipped it but was still able to escape. The owner showed it to us after and we were happy to see how it operated as it was definitely a key element to the room. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? "Can U Xcape’s" bookings are public and we’ve had good and bad experiences with that. We really enjoyed the group we played with and teamwork was essential. Sharing what you found and calling out what’s already been done is the key to succeeding as a group in an escape room. We really enjoyed both rooms that we played at "Can U Xcape". They have very unique concepts for their set designs and puzzles. The game's storyline is narrated by the dinner host, while the GM also has a role to play. They are like allies, offering assistance if you can afford to bribe them. This departure from the typical clue system was greatly appreciated by us. In this room, there was a task that initially seemed doubting. Despite hesitating at first, once it was finished, a moment of "wow" ensued. The host's unique characteristic was evident in the challenges he set for the players to solve. These tasks were enjoyable and occasionally unconventional. By solving all the small puzzles, you were ultimately preparing yourself to tackle the meta deduction puzzle. This overarching objective was evident throughout the game. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK I wouldn't change anything about this game.     🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Upon entering the room, I immediately felt like I was part of a carefully scripted Netflix show. The ambiance evoked memories of " The Menu ", a show that seamlessly blends the eerie with the enigmatic. My gaze was immediately drawn to the plate cover positioned prominently in the room's center, a curious object that exuded an aura of both unease and intrigue. It beckoned to be opened, compelling me to unravel the mysteries that lay hidden beneath its surface. In our quest for unique and immersive experiences, this particular escape room stood out as a shining gem. Its narrative intricacies and attention to detail placed it firmly at the pinnacle of our list of favorites. The plot was engaging, keeping us on our toes with unexpected developments during the game. We appreciated "how" the storytelling happened as well. The props were intricately designed and all suitable for a hotel environment. One in particular caught our attention due to its personalized touch. The hint system and introduction were facilitated by a virtual concierge. We appreciate games that integrate hints using appropriate channels. We were pleasantly surprised by one of the props when we found out how it could be activated. One particular aspect of the game design stood out to me as my favorite. While situated inside the hotel, I particularly enjoyed the presence of windows on the door, through which we could observe the shadows of people passing by. This feature truly enhanced the sense of realism within the setting. Once again, they have enhanced the authenticity of this room by incorporating real-life items, which always elevate the overall experience. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One of the puzzles had a solution that seemed too straightforward. It would have been helpful to have a clue guiding us on why we should interpret those visual cues as the solution, instead of simply attempting it. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? One of the most intriguing aspects of this room that never fails to captivate me is the element of surprise that unfolds within its walls. From the moment we stepped foot inside, a peculiar sense of unease mingled with the facade of a cheerful vacation setting, hinting at a hidden layer of mystery waiting to be unraveled. The gradual progression through the room was akin to unwinding a suspenseful tale, with every corner turned and every object examined adding a new layer to the enigma at hand. It was as if the room itself was a silent storyteller, weaving a narrative of intrigue and curiosity that beckoned us to uncover its secrets. The grand finale awaited us with a flourish of revelation that left us both astonished and spellbound. The pieces of the puzzle fell into place, painting a vivid picture of the hidden truths that had been concealed within the room's seemingly ordinary facade. The story suddenly veered in a different direction towards the end, catching us off guard. The puzzles were meticulously crafted to adhere to a specific theme, immersing the participants in a world of mystery and intrigue. As we delved deeper into the puzzles, we found ourselves embarking on a journey through time, exploring the wisdom of ancient civilizations and uncovering the esoteric knowledge encoded within these cryptic messages. 🧩   MISSED THE MARK Sound or light alerts should be included for when items are opened. Many times, we were unaware that we had triggered something. Each player should receive a flashlight since certain areas were rather dark. At times, we find ourselves in a situation where the solution to a puzzle has been triggered before we have completed it, leading to confusion. To prevent players from being misled by distractions, it is important to remove clues from past events and puzzle parts that are no longer relevant from the room. Some props required updating. The cluing system of one puzzle required clarification as we were uncertain about its intended target. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This room exudes an aura reminiscent of an Indiana Jones movie set, with its mysterious artifacts and ancient relics scattered around. Imagine the exploration of hidden chambers, deciphering cryptic messages, and encountering unexpected obstacles that test both wit and courage. The departure from the typical Egyptian room theme opens up a world of possibilities for a unique and engaging plot. The room's unconventional ending adds a twist that leaves a lasting impression, making the experience all the more memorable and satisfying. The graffiti added a nice touch. We had to carry out numerous tasks that created the illusion of being on an actual train. The movement, the flickering lights, and the sound all contributed to intensifying the sense of realism. The puzzles included a range of tasks to be carried out both at the train station and on board the train. We particularly liked the deduction and math puzzles that ultimately enabled us to accomplish the mission. There was a moment in the game that elicited a "wow" reaction, which will be recognizable to those who have played the game before or will play it in the future. Our reaction was one of disbelief: "Hold on...Did that really just happened?" 🧩   MISSED THE MARK When looking for help, the GM's hints could be clearer.. Sound or light notifications could be incorporated to indicate which items have been opened.. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? We grew up in NY, so you can imagine the sheer excitement that coursed through our veins when we found ourselves standing on a platform that seemed like a direct replica of the 7 train's station (minus the smell). We were on a quest to uncover the truth, to seek out the elusive "rats" that threatened to tarnish our reputation and to ultimately vindicate ourselves. These puzzles encompassed various types, keeping us on edge throughout the game. The set design is deceiving as we initially found ourselves in what appeared to be an ordinary room resembling a study. However, as the game unfolded, it became clear why The Illuminati was in the storyline. The puzzles were intended to be concealed in obscure locations and seamlessly blend with The Illuminati theme. I especially liked a puzzle design that incorporated a popular type of puzzle, but what set it apart was the ingenious use of props associated with the bank in the hint, delivering a truly remarkable "wow" experience for us. 🧩   MISSED THE MARK Visualizing one of the clues proved to be quite challenging due to its illegibility. One of the puzzles had two ways of solving it which could raise confusion for the players The clues provided by the GM could be more straightforward. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This room is truly spacious, offering ample room to explore and solve the challenges it presents. We found ourselves constantly moving between different areas. A team of four would be ideal. The setting of Escape Room Pittsburgh within a former bank adds a unique touch to the atmosphere. The attention to detail in the set design is evident, especially in how elements from the bank's past were cleverly integrated into the storyline involving The Illuminati. This integration not only enhances the immersion but also provides a rich background for the mystery at hand. If you have a keen eye for detail and enjoy unraveling intricate puzzles, this room will surely captivate you. The clues are meticulously placed, requiring a sharp observation and a sense of deduction to unravel the mystery. Each discovery feels like a step closer to unveiling the secrets hidden within the room, making the entire experience both challenging and rewarding. To experience this enchanting world firsthand, you'll have to visit and discover the entrance for yourself - no spoilers here! The meticulous attention to detail in the ambient lighting, the thoughtfully selected sound effects, and the overall immersive journey were flawlessly executed from the moment we entered until the very end. The game's guidance was discreet yet evident, appearing only when needed. There moments in the game that give you the sensation of having "journeyed," or is it simply a trick of the mind? Solving puzzles was both difficult and rewarding. The room will let you know when it's time to journey to the next realm. Most of this room was tech based but we still got the satisfaction of opening some physical locks that were used in appropriate places. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One of the props is highly responsive to touch, we recommend replacing it with a different input device if available. It's important to ensure that participants are not delayed unnecessarily when they have the correct solution. Our only recommendation for the creators is to offer a 75-minute game mode with additional puzzles to cater to enthusiasts who crave a longer gaming experience. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? The exceptional construction of the set design truly immersed us in a world reminiscent of Disney World. The creators' ability to seamlessly blend together elements of mystery, creativity, and fun truly made this escape room stand out. Each puzzle felt like a piece of a larger narrative, adding depth to the overall storyline and enhancing our sense of accomplishment as we progressed through the challenges. The thematic cohesion and the innovative use of technology further elevated the experience, making it a memorable journey that left us wanting more. Things are always more enjoyable when there is more than one! Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE This storyline is truly one-of-a-kind and has not been utilized in other escape rooms previously. The objective and steps of the cloning process were also well-defined throughout the game. Various scientific experiments were incorporated into the puzzle design, enhancing the authenticity of the laboratory setting. The focal point of the room was the remarkable cloning machine. It was enjoyable to witness its activation with each input being accurately inputted. We were uncertain about how the designer would unveil the clone at the end, but we were pleasantly surprised and satisfied with the outcome. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One of the puzzle solutions should result in a 5-digit code. We recommend either adjusting it accordingly or modifying the clue to indicate the correct number of digits. The majority of the room was kept in dim lighting, which added to the eerie atmosphere. The story began with a chilling voice from the killer, but he gradually became more amiable as the game progressed. It seems he enjoys playing games, yet he was secretly hoping that you would be the first to escape from his hideout. While exploring the room, we discovered some intriguing hidden spots. I was especially fond of the concept of using physical tools, as it enhanced the immersion in the real-life escape scenarios. I was quite shocked by the unexpected locations where we had to locate specific items. Some individuals may consider it somewhat gruesome, but I personally enjoy it. Additionally, there were a couple of jump scare moments that caught me off guard. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK We fully enjoyed being "toyed" by the maniac killer. I would gladly return for part 2 anytime. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Bold Escape Room has extensive experience in running Haunt attractions and it is evident in the meticulous attention to detail seen in the set design and prop creation within this room. As soon as the poison gas filled the room, a sense of urgency and fear gripped us, setting the stage for a heart-pounding race against time. Every element in the room seemed to tell a story of past victims, serving as a stark reminder of the fate that awaited those who failed to escape. The immersive experience truly made us empathize with the terror that the victims in "SAW" must have felt, adding a chilling layer of realism to the entire ordeal. It’s up to you to get inside the theater, confirm the test subject’s whereabouts, and report back. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Twisted Limits did a phenomenal job of creating a backstage theater area that feels authentic through the use of props like curtain ropes, costumes, trunks, theater seats, and more. There are a wide variety of puzzle types in the game, including spatial logic, pattern matching, and search. A few of which cleverly used props in inventive ways. (And the connection between two areas of the game is a fun surprise.) At the end, your efforts in the room are rewarded with a satisfyingly dramatic conclusion. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The first phase of the game features a lot of locks. When you find a key or a combination, trial and error is required to figure out what opens. One of the puzzles revolves around an item that is small and difficult to see and interact with. Some of the activities required instructions that had to be cued through the game’s hint system. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? The abandoned theater setting/theme of " Behind The Curtain " is entertaining, and the storyline is imaginative. There are a lot of physical aspects to the room. In the course of events, you’ll have to climb over things, pull heavy boxes off of high shelves, dig around for things, and rearrange heavy set pieces. If you aren’t able or interested in all of that, this isn’t the room for you. If you are up for it, you’ll get a workout solving a fun room. Twisted Limits Escape Rooms are located in a small strip mall (so no trouble parking). You must retrace their steps, wherever they take you! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The most noteworthy aspects of " The Passage " are in the set design. Upon entering the game, you find yourself in an underground cave. The atmosphere is cool and believably carved out of rock. You even hear the sound of water running underground in the distance. The room’s designers were clearly ambitious in their plans. As you turn the corner, you see that that water sound is coming from an audacious water feature—which is topped by an even more impressive set element later in the game that will make your head spin. The 90-minute time limit affords the experience extra depth (as compared to standard one-hour games). There was a blend of puzzle types and each major area of the game had multiple puzzles that could be worked on simultaneously. Physical props and room elements were integrated into the puzzle solving. Our gamemasters went above and beyond to make our game play enjoyable. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK We encountered some difficulty with the keypad locks in the room. Once we had the correct combinations, it took us a number of tries to input them into the locks as the ambient noise level drowned out the lock’s audio feedback. Hints, guidance, and story prompts are provided via a tablet screen that you take with you through the room. In a couple of the puzzles, a little more signposting within the room could have reduced our hint count and reliance on that system. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? " The Passage " delivers an immersive environment and good puzzles with a bit of intrigue. The room’s namesake feature is totally worth the trip. " The Passage " will work well for large groups. There’s enough space for everyone to fit without climbing over each other (We attempted it with just two players and wished we had more). This facility is located in the popular area of Flushing, Queens. The area is surrounded by restaurants, Karoake bars, shopping, etc. We've played " Escape The Hydeout " at the Mission Escape Games in Manhattan before, so we wanted to try a different location this time We were fortunate enough to meet with the owner & developer to learn more about the company and it's operations. They currently have 4 rooms available to the public, 1 in beta testing, and another that's being built. The owner is very hands on with his designs and developments. Please advise this location is not handicap accessible as there's multiple floors inside the facility. The brand new renovated lounge area is great for hosting large parties. There's street parking all around the block and meter parking right in front. Today, we are trying 2 of their rooms - "The Secret of the Alchemist" (beta test mode) and "The Dungeon of Elements". The first room - "The Secret of the Alchemist" is about 99% complete. They're still finalizing some of the puzzles which is why it's not available on their website yet. This room is located in the basement which I feel adds to the experience because as soon as you walk into the room, you are inside of an Alchemist's office. The room design was very unique and had a lot of character. The puzzle challenges were creative and less traditional which correlated with the story line very well. Prior to our game, we were told as a disclaimer that some puzzles needed to be fine-tuned. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and made it out just in time with four people total. This room is also located in the basement of the facility, so it has that "dungeon" feeling as you walk down the stairs. Once you enter the room, you are in a main section area with two locked rooms. The room design and the level of detail was quite impressive as it felt like an actual dungeon. We enjoyed the fact that each room had its own elemental puzzle challenges and required those same elements to solve them. In comparison to the first room, this one was a lot easier but had a better flow to it. This game expertly utilized a variety of magic tricks, both visual and prop-related, creating numerous "magical" moments for us. One special effect even left us wondering, "How did they do that?" I love how the puzzles required players to actually perform the magic trick, rewarding us with a clue or solution once completed. One visual clue was particularly impressive, requiring collaboration and careful observation to uncover what could easily be missed at first glance. We were delighted by the personalization aspect of one of the puzzles, which truly made us feel like integral parts of the game. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One puzzle featured wording that was somewhat unclear regarding the visual clues we needed to observe, which disrupted the flow of our game. The visual clue for the final puzzle requires clarification, as it currently does not align well with the actual prop in the room, resulting in a delay in identifying the intended solution. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? If you're a fan of the movie "Now You See Me," get ready to be captivated by this escape room from the very beginning! You'll be surrounded by familiar props used by magicians, and you'll actually feel like a magician yourself as you "perform" a few tricks and witness magic happening right before your eyes. As fans of the movie series, we experienced plenty of "oooo"s and "ahhh"s during our gameplay. If you love magic, you absolutely must check out this game because seeing is believing! From the original South Park dialog to the interactive hint system given by the game master, we loved being called “Dumb”. We haven’t seen much puzzles that can incorporate humor, so this was entertaining. Hint system was fun and different. We enjoyed not having to hold a walkie talkie. We felt like we’ve been transported into the actual cartoon. The vibrant colors of the room created a happy atmosphere right away. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Although most props were well made, some seemed to have needed some update already. One particular puzzle had some parts of the pen marks that were worn off. Could those be printed on instead? Although outside knowledge of the show was not needed to solve the puzzles, some puzzle pieces did have a relevance to the show and because we haven’t seen the episode, we did not get the correlation. One item was not mentioned to us at the beginning that was usable during the game play which caused us a hint later on since we thought everything that was needed was in the room already. It may be worth it for the game master to double check to make sure that the players have what they needed before entering the room. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Cartman’s Escape Room is officially licensed with South Park & Comedy Central. This definitely helped with how authentic the set designed looked. If you are a South Park fan and love some comedy, this is a must do room. We had a few minutes left on the clock with just the two of us but there were a lot to explore and do in the room. Ideally 4-6 people would be a great number for this room. Don’t let Cartman call you “dumb” and save Kenny! 🔎 HINT You may not need all the pieces.
