  • Escape Room L.A. - "The Curse of the Dark Raven"

Photos provided by Escape Room L.A. Company: Escape Room L.A. Game: The Curse of the Dark Raven Country: USA πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Language: English Type of Game: Audio Escape Room πŸ‘‚ Genre: Fantasy Date Played: 6/26/2020 Difficulty (based on 5 players): 5/10 Size of Team: 2-6 Players Time: 60 Minutes Price: $16.50/ pp A Team of brave warriors (ETR + EcapeMattster +Society of Curiosities) heard that a small village desperately needed our help to free them from the evil witch's curse. We gather our only weapon, our wits, and began the quest. This is an audio escape room hosted by a live game master on Zoom. We were presented with graphics of the various locations of the town and different puzzles within them. Each time we wanted to explore, we would communicate our idea to the game master. There were a few times we experienced lag during our game which made it difficult to hear but it could just be a connection issue at the time. The game was pretty straight forward. We didn't have any confusions on the puzzles. There weren't that many chances to be creative and interact with the game master expect for one location. It was interesting to know that the game could be "extended" if we chose to play a bit longer at a certain "option point". Although the puzzle type would be repeated but the questions would be different. We chose to continue on with the game by completing just the essential components and finished it with 34 minutes and 35 seconds. It would be great to see more check points that we can make choices on to be added to the game as that was a very fun moment for all of us and we haven't seen audio escape rooms used that method. This would also allow us to be able to interact with the game master more. Since the graphics felt cartoon-like and the puzzles were quite easy, this would be a great game for families with kids. I'm sure they will be able to discover more "surprises" than we did in the cursed town! *** We regret to inform this game is no longer available for booking but check out other games on their website*** Disclosure: We thank Escape Room L.A. for comping our tickets for this game. Although a complimentary experience was generously provided, it does not impact our opinion on the review whatsoever. #ESCAPETHEROOMers #AtHomeGames #EscapeRooms #EscapeRoomLA #TheCurseoftheDarkRaven #DigitalEscapeGames #AudioEscapeRoom #Mystery #Raven #Poe #Witches #Curse #troll #spell #fantasy

  • The Adventure Is Real - "Agent Venture - Mission One: The Heist"

Photos provided by The Adventure Is Real Company: The Adventure Is Real Game: Mission One: The Heist Country: United Kingdom πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Language: English Type of Game: Audio Escape Room πŸ‘‚ Genre: Espionage, Spy Date Played: 6/13/2020 Difficulty (based on 4 players): 7.5/10 Size of Team: 2-5 Players Time: 60 Minutes Price: Β£10.00-Β£14.00/pp "Agent Venture" is an audio escape game where a game master will host your group through a zoom meeting. This game can be played with a minimum of 4 people to a maximum of 5 people. When you book, you'll receive an email to chose different characters you can assign your teammates to. It's best to look the character's job description and determine who will best fit the position. There are 5 positions: Navigator, Hacker, Researcher, Communicator, and Coordinator. We played it with Escape Room Adventurer as a team of 4. Our goal for the game was to infiltrate the BAD corporation's headquarter and retrieve evidence on their evil scheme and get our field agent out safely. Our game master was our control center and our field agent. He began by sending us documents that pertained to each character. At the beginning, we felt that the Hacker had a lot more things to do (e.g. solving puzzles) while we kind of waited on the side. But this also gave us more time to read through our materials. There were a good amount of materials we had to read through. It would be great if they could be formatted to bullet points so its easier to spot the different routes we could decide on since the game play is only 60 minutes so it was difficult to sift through everything on the spot. As time went on, other positions also became involved in the game. There were many different paths that we could take to win the game and this makes the game re-playable if you wanted to try a different scenario by re-booking. Our paths was mixed with some easier routes and difficult routes according to our game master's debrief at the end. With that said, our field agent did a great job since he would have to come up with responses to our suggestions almost instantaneously. As puzzle people, we yearned for more puzzle types and quantity. But we understand this game was designed to have more of an adventure & RPG kind of feel. It was still a lot of fun since we were able to show our individual strength and worked well as a team to saved our agent with 2:41 seconds left on the clock! *** We regret to inform this company has closed its doors *** Disclosure: We thank The Adventure Is Real for comping our tickets for this game. • The Adventure Is Real - "Agent Venture - Mission Two: Cyborg Island"

Photos provided by The Adventure Is Real Company: The Adventure Is Real Game: Agent Venture - Mission Two: Cyborg Island Country: United Kingdom πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ Language: English Type of Game: Audio Escape Room πŸ‘‚ Genre: Espionage, Spy Date Played: 10/10/2020 Difficulty (based on 4 players): 7.5/10 Size of Team: 2-5 Players Time: 60 Minutes Price: Β£10.00-Β£14.00/pp This is our second mission with Agent Venture. Our first mission "The Heist" was a success! Hopefully our luck won't run out this time...This time our mission is to infiltrate the secret cybernetics facility underneath a casino on a private island. We need to disable the cybernetics or else B.A.D. will create a cyborg army and take over the world! The format is the same as mission one. We were emailed instructions to assign a role for each of our team members prior to the game. Just like the first game we had 4 players but you're allowed a total of 5. There are 5 positions: Navigator, Hacker, Researcher, Communicator, and Coordinator (optional). Once the game began, each role will receive files that will be accessible only to themselves. I was communicator again as I know my team will fail miserably if I was assigned the hacker (as sudoku was my kryptonite). I wish there were some other puzzle types other than sudoku as I would actually attempt that role for the next game. I enjoyed being the communicator as that's probably the "laziest" but most creative role in this game. There were times I was just waiting for the hacker to do the hard work but it also gave me time to plot my next move. The creative side definitely provided short cuts and entertaining moments for the team. It's necessary to come up with various types of methods to bypass certain obstacles as the hacker (shoutout to Armchair Escapist Jamie for being such a trooper!) could get quite exhausted if they are being utilized for everything. Although if someone was really good at sudoku, you may be able to make it to victory with just by using that method. Brandon quite enjoyed being the navigator in this game. He had quite a lot more navigating to do in comparison to the previous mission. Nick was our researcher and he had to do most of the reading. He was quite quick at finding information that we could use at various moments. Everyone exhibited their strength at various points in the game. Our agent in the field (game host) did a great job again with his verbal transcription of the actions in the story line. It vividly painted images in our heads on how we're climbing through vents, dodging the cyborg's attacks and fighting off guards in the field. Since the adventure could become easier or more difficult depending on the choices the group makes, it's important to discuss all the options. There are information that one role has that the other doesn't. Sharing your screen over Zoom would definitely help and would allow other players who currently doesn't have something to do be able to chime in with their opinions. We hope that Agent Venture could also add in more video visuals in their next games to make the experiences more immersive. One thing we always love about their adventures is the creativity behind the story line and the innovative ways they can use a player's imagination. Did you know that you'll be completing your next mission on the moon? Hurry over to their website and check out that mission. Hopefully there's still some advance tickets left! *** We regret to inform this company has closed its doors *** Disclosure: We thank The Adventure Is Real for comping our tickets for this game. • Vortex Events (Formerly Fantasy Escape Games) - "The Dark Tower"

Photos provided by Fantasy Escape Games Company: Fantasy Escape Games Game: The Dark Tower Country: USA πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Language: English Type of Game: Audio Escape Room πŸ‘‚ Genre: Fantasy Date Played: 8/13/2020 Difficulty (based on 2 players): 5/10 Size of Team: Up to 7 players Time: 60 Minutes Price: $14/ pp (Mon-Thurs/ 10am-9pm PST), $15/pp (Fri-Sun/ 10am-10pm PST) Fantasy Escape Games is a brand new audio escape company but the creator has been a veteran in puzzle and escape room design. He's also involved in theater production so we are eager to try out his new project. "The Dark Tower" was played over Zoom. Our roles in the game were wizards trying to stop a dark sorcerer from completing his foul ritual. A visual image was presented followed by an intro story explaining the location, character and tools. There were several choice options presented during the game play. It made us felt closer to the characters and the situations when the decision was in our hands (similar to a RPG). We really enjoyed this concept. It would be great to see if each character could have their own choice moment instead of a team decision. This way it would give each player a moment to shine. The story line pulled us into a fantasy world right from the beginning. On the adventure, we encountered ogres, fairies, wizards and many other mystical creatures. The beautiful and detailed artwork helped us with bring this fantasy world to live. The puzzles were challenging yet entertaining (even humorous at times). This was probably our favorite puzzle set that we've done in an audio escape room. Our only suggestion would be to add some video and audio component to the game to enhance the immersion. Perhaps different characters could have different voices. It would be great to be able to feel the transport from one area to another. We've played many audio escape games by now and the one thing we always emphasis on is the importance of the game master. Jack did a great job leading us through this adventure. He was cunning at creating scenarios and comebacks. We had given him a few solutions to the puzzles that he haven't seen other players use before but was able to quickly adapt it to the story. Since there are no limits to imagination, game master's readiness to interact with players suggestions will make- or-break a game. Of course having players that are more open to interacting with the game master could make their jobs easier. Fantasy Escape Games did a great job at making this fantasy a "reality". We can't wait to meet again in their second room - "Ghost of Carvan Manor" in September! • Vortex Events (Formerly Fantasy Escape Games) - "Ghosts of Craven Manor"

Photos provided by Fantasy Escape Games Company: Fantasy Escape Games Game: Ghosts of Craven Manor Country: USA πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Language: English Type of Game: Audio Escape Room πŸ‘‚ Genre: Comedy Horror Date Played: 10/29/2020 Difficulty (based on 2 players): 5.5/10 Size of Team: Up to 7 players Time: 60 Minutes Price: $15-$16pp This is the second time we've played a game with Fantasy Escape Games. We've enjoyed their first game, "The Dark Tower" due to the amazing graphics, music selection, creative storyline and the theatrical game host (Jack). This time, in honor of Halloween, we are a family of ghosts residing in the majestic Craven Manor. But it seems like we've been too "friendly" to the neighbors and they've hired an exorcist! How are we going to protect ourselves from being evicted from our home? This was such an innovate idea and a fun game to play. Have you ever wondered what you can or can't do as a ghost? How will you interact with the world if you are invisible? We really had to use a lot of our imaginations in this game. The game was played over Zoom with an intro story from the game master. We started our journey in front of the locked Craven Manor door. One thing we love about their games is that we're always amazed by the next graphic image (a few sneak peeks below). You should definitely keep an open mind on how you'll be able to solve puzzles in this game. Some puzzles are not like ciphers or logic puzzles but more like: "what would I do in this situation?" In audio games, since the players are not limited to what they can do like an actual escape room, the game master has to be ready for all types of answers. Jack does a great job at quick comebacks. He's also quite good at acting out different characters and voices which makes the game feel much more immersive. We actually felt like we were "little Caspers" floating around the castle looking for ways to save our family members. We played the hard version so got out with just a few minutes left on the clock but Jack would gage on the group's experience level and add or remove puzzles as you go through the game. Although the name of the game may suggest otherwise, this game is totally family friendly and kids would love it. I would suggest spending more time interacting with the characters rather than focusing on solving puzzles. Remember to say Hi to Yorik (the friendly skull) for us as I'm sure he'll definitely hook you up with some hints (maybe even some extra pointers) if you tell him you heard about this game from us! • Vortex Events (Formerly Fantasy Escape Games) - "Space Defenders"

Photo above is property of Fantasy Escape Games Company: Fantasy Escape Games Game: Space Defenders Country: USA πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Language: English Type of Game: Digital Escape Game W/GM πŸ’» Genre: Sci-Fi Date Played: July 28, 2021 Difficulty (based on 8 players): 7.5/10 Size of Team: Up to 25pp (Minimum of 4 Players) Time: 45/60/90 Minutes Price: $19/pp πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ†‚πŸ†ƒπŸ…ΎπŸ†πŸ†ˆ The ancient crystals have been stolen by an alien criminal named Kryota. The universe is relying on you and your team to retrieve them from various planets that she's hidden them on. They are the only way to keep the universe from danger. Godspeed, Space Defenders! Video above is property of Fantasy Escape Games πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΆπŸ…°πŸ…ΌπŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ…»πŸ…°πŸ†ˆ Space Admiral Jack greeted us on Zoom and informed us about this urgent mission. After the instruction video, we were broken into teams and send into breakout rooms. The entire game play is designed in a digital platform called Telescape. From that point on, the game became a point-n-click game. Since we had 8 people we were divided into four groups of twos. We played the 90 minute version of the game which contains all the puzzles and areas that we could explore. Our first mission was to repair our spaceship as Kryota damaged it. We needed to work together with the other teams to share information through a central hub in order to repair each other's ships. Inside the hub, we were able to communicate with each other through a chatbot. Images could also be shared. Admiral Jack was with us the entire time so we were able to receive nudges and ask for help if needed. There's no penalty on using help or hints, so use as much as you like (but don't abuse it!) Helping teammates is allowed in the hub but do not share answers. your mission is to get as many crystals as possible collectively so no need to sabotage any team. Although we did find that at the end there was a sense of competitiveness. Everyone wanted to be the team that got the most crystals. Once the ship was repaired, you'll have many different planets that you can now travel to. If you found the navigator, tell the other teams as that will open up even more planets! Each team can select where they want to go and explore independently from the other teams. On each planet there'll be various puzzles which I'll elaborate on in the puzzle section below. Photos above are properties of Fantasy Escape Games πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ†„πŸ†‰πŸ†‰πŸ…»πŸ…΄πŸ†‚ The first set of puzzles was to figure out how to repair the ship. That was the first time we encountered sharing information in the hub. It took a bit of time to get use to as it's quite difficult to describe certain things quickly through text. Sending images also took time as we would have to screenshot them over. It would be great if the hub could also include audio like if we're on the same frequency channel. We really enjoyed the communication and sharing information idea but because there's so much we needed to do as our individual team, we put communication with other teams as secondary because it took time out of our own puzzle solving time. I guess in a way it resembles self sacrifice in order to help others. Maybe if some score could be added for teams that helped out others, we'll spend more time on that part of the task. On each planet, you might see various symbols. Green means you'll need to share the information you see with others and red means you'll need to receive information from the others. Most of the time we just went to the two designated planets and retrieved the information on our own. It felt faster than explaining and waiting for other teams to reply. The puzzles varied in difficulty and you'll be rewarded with different colored crystals that have different points. Some were single step puzzles, some were interactive and some were quite challenging as they were multi-step ones that required you to connect information from various places. It helps to have a good memory for this game or else just be a good notetaker as there are 13 locations (including some hidden ones) to visit. If you want to aim for a perfect crystal score then you'll need to collect 44 of them as a single team (we only got 11 as a single team and 29 collectively). Photos above are properties of Fantasy Escape Games πŸ…²πŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ†‚πŸ…ΈπŸ…½πŸ…Ά πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…ΎπŸ†„πŸ…ΆπŸ…·πŸ†ƒπŸ†‚ This game was designed to be replayable. It'll be very challenging to collect all the crystals and complete all the puzzles in one game setting (unless you have a huge group of people each taking on one planet or if you book a 3-4 hour game session). It's a must play for people who like cooperative games. It's also perfect for corporate training. There were definitely moments where we had to make moral decisions during the game like give up more of our team's time to help others or how to fight Kryota to win in a space battle. But if you are enthusiasts, you'll also love the challenges that you'll encounter when playing with a smaller group. We haven't seen a digital game on the market yet that's designed to accommodate such a large number of players but still give them so much to do as individuals. The quirky artwork added a bit of humor into this galaxy world. We really enjoyed visiting the various planets to see how different they were from each other. At the end of the game, Admiral Jack also let our team check off which missions we've completed and which we've missed. I must say I was quite sad that we didn't get an invite to join an alien race. I guess we'll need to replay this game again in order to find all the hidden places and puzzles that we've missed! This was such a fun game and concept. We highly recommended! • Trapped Puzzle Rooms - "Super Squad"

Photos provided by Trapped Puzzle Rooms Company: Trapped Puzzle Rooms Game: Super Squad Country: USA πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Language: English Type of Game: Audio Escape Room πŸ‘‚ Genre: Sci-Fi, Fantasy Date Played: 6/18/2020 Difficulty (based on 3 players): 7/10 Size of Team: 3-8 Players (3-6 people recommended) Time: 90 Minutes Price: $15/pp I was pretty excited to play this game. I'm sure you know by now from the name of the game what type of theme it was going to be. I've always dreamed to be taller and stronger. This was my chance! I was ready to save the day... The format of this audio escape was similar to the ones we've done. You will get an intro of the story from the host and puzzles were presented to you through images. The game was hosted on Discord so if you don't have the program you'll need to download it. The game host will walk you through the functions once you join into the room. The difference between this audio escape and some of the other ones we've tried was the story line and a very entertaining host. Brian was a natural at this. He added accents to the character in the story and always had witty comebacks for our suggestions. Of course we reciprocated with even "wittier" demands. This went on for about 1 hour and 2 minutes till we successfully saved the world. In the end, my jaws were sore from laughing so hard. We almost didn't want the game to end. And props to the writer of the script! Some ideas were so innovative we have no idea how they were able to come up with it. This was definitely one of our favorite audio escape room experiences so far. If you do decide to give this room a try (which you definitely should), 3-6 people would be our suggested number (we were joined by our friend, Brit of an Escape Habit, and made an unstoppable team of 3). I don't want to give away too much on the details but everyone will feel like a hero by the end of the game. If you never had a chance to fulfill your childhood fantasy of becoming a super hero, this is your chance! Photos provided by Trapped Puzzle Rooms Company: Trapped Puzzle Rooms Game: Heist Heist Baby Country: USA πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Language: English Type of Game: Audio Escape Room πŸ‘‚ Genre: Heist Date Played: 8/13/2020 Difficulty (based on 2 players): 6/10 Size of Team: 2-6 Players (Minimum of 2 devices) Time: 90 Minutes Price: $15/pp One thing that Trapped Puzzle Rooms' games can always promise us is laughter. Brian, our host, took us on another fun adventure and this time it was at the Spumonti Casino. Casino/heist type of theme had always been one of my favorites. It was time to try our luck! The entire game was played on Discord. You'll need to set up for an account if you don't have one. Do try to sign in earlier and get familiar with the program if you never used it before. This game did need a bit more utilization of the program than our previous game. Visuals were sent and paired with narrations told by the game host. This game felt more like a "choose your own adventure". From trying our luck at the roulette table to spinning jackpots on the slot machines to hitting some blackjacks, there was so much to explore. The mission was assigned very clearly to us at the beginning but there was a lot of acceptable ways to achieve it. The hard job landed on the host since he needed to determine if our solution was viable. Brian was great at improvs and giving witty comebacks. The puzzles were not as difficult in this game but they had designed something we haven't seen before done on discord. Closer to the end of the game, we were sent to different rooms (given different photos) that was similar to breakout rooms on Zoom. We had to work together by telling each other what we saw in order to complete the puzzles and escape. We thought we had ample time but describing some puzzle elements were harder than we thought. We had only a couple of seconds left but that's exactly the thrill we were looking for in a heist. Every game we've tried so far with Trapped Puzzle Rooms have given us a different type of experience even though the platform and game concept was the same. For this game, it felt like a RPG. If you want more challenging puzzles with lucid solutions, try their "Super Squad". We hope to travel back in time and meet T-Rex in their "Prehistoric Park" one day and hopefully live to tell our experience! We are excited to embark on Trapped Puzzle Rooms' newest adventure, "Pirate's Plunder"! Can we break the curse and escape with all the loot? This time we had the pleasure of having Mark (main designer for all the games) as the game master. Just like "Super Squad" and "Heist Heist Baby", this game was also played over Discord. story graphics were sent over the discord chat and we were able to click on them to have a closer look. The two elements that stood out for us with this game were the beautiful graphic designs and the innovative puzzles. It seemed like this game incorporated the most amount of graphics than any of the previous games we've played. We "traveled" from the pub to the merchant's shed to the dock to the fruit stand and finally set sail for the mysterious treasure island! Whereas some of their other games had more elements of imagination, this one was more puzzle based. Most of the puzzles in this game had one correct solution where as in their other games, the game master was able to accept a diversity of creative answers. As puzzlers by heart, this one really hit the spot for us. Of course we can't overlook the amusing jokes and riddles in the game as like we said in the previous reviews, laughter is a guaranteed ingredient in all Trapped Puzzle Rooms' games! • Trapped Puzzle Rooms - "Holiday Whodunnit"

Company: Trapped Puzzle Rooms Games: Holiday Whodunnit Country: USA πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Language: English Type of Game: Audio Escape Room πŸ‘‚ Genre: Mystery, Comedy Date Played: 11/25/2020 Difficulty (based on 2 players): 4.5/10 Size of Team: 1-6 Players (Minimum of 3 ticket purchase), Suggested age 10+ Time: 90 Minutes Price: $15/pp πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ†‚πŸ†ƒπŸ…ΎπŸ†πŸ†ˆ While we're taking a nice stroll with Grandmother Winter in the village of North Pole, a reindeer came out of no where and ran over Grandma! Who would want to do such a thing? Good thing we're great at solving mysteries. Let's get to the bottom of this... πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΆπŸ…°πŸ…ΌπŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ…»πŸ…°πŸ†ˆ Just like the previous games, this game is played over Discord. Don't be scared of not being familiar with the program. It took us awhile to get use to it as well but once you are able to download the program and enter their discord room, you've already won half of the battle. The gamemaster should be able to assist from that point forward. There's really not much you need to do after that as the photos will be delivered to you through the chat room and you really just need the program for communication purposes. We are always in awe whenever we see the graphics in Trapped Puzzle Rooms' games. We can't believe it's done by the same artist! In this game, we're able to perceive that "Dr. Seuss" vibe throughout the game. The art really made us feel like we were there in person. My favorite room was the bakery. There's so much to explore in there (*ahem* mainly the delicious looking desserts) and I really didn't want to leave. Since this is an audio escape room and we love to interact and let our imaginations run wild, this is the perfect theme for us to do that. In the beautiful land of the North Pole, we're able to mingle with our elf friends, interrogate our reindeer suspects and report our findings to our commander-in-chief, Santa. The game master was also able to capture that playful and cheerful sensation through narrating the stories from the various characters. πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ†„πŸ†‰πŸ†‰πŸ…»πŸ…΄πŸ†‚ Trapped Puzzle Rooms always tries to do something different for all of their audio experiences and this one emphasized more on "search and find" and deduction type of puzzles. It went well with their theme since you're supposed to be a detective and found out who's the culprit that hurt Grandmother Winter. Since you could technically create any answer out of air in these type of games, our game master did a great job entertaining us with hilarious puns and creative comebacks. I would say most of the puzzles were in the medium level difficulty and we probably took the longest with the final deduction puzzle. Good thing you're able to ask the game master for hints anytime. He was able to walk us through the thought process for the final puzzle but didn't give away the solution. πŸ…²πŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ†‚πŸ…ΈπŸ…½πŸ…Ά πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…ΎπŸ†„πŸ…ΆπŸ…·πŸ†ƒπŸ†‚ Another joyful experience with Trapped Puzzle Rooms! As you patiently waited in the train station, something magical happened and all of a sudden, you've been transported to a spirit world. Will you be able to find your way home? πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΆπŸ…°πŸ…ΌπŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ…»πŸ…°πŸ†ˆ Like the rest of the audio escape games at Trapped Puzzle Rooms, this one was also hosted on Discord. We were lucky to get Mark as our GM as he's the creator of this experience. Mark started our journey by sending us a beautiful crafted artwork of a crowded train station over Discord. The work in this game were all done by none other than the very talented Gabe. As we described to Mark what we want to look at, explore on and utilize, more cinematic scenes would reveal themselves. Since there are no boundaries as to what you are able to do in an audio escape game, being more creative will make the game more interesting and fun for everyone. If your "solution" is acceptable by the GM, he/she will then open up the next chapter until the team has successfully complete the adventure. There's an added "companion" that we haven't seen in other audio games yet, an autobot named "Rythm". I really enjoyed the soundtracks that they paired up with this game. It bought out that mythical feel of a spirit world. πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ†„πŸ†‰πŸ†‰πŸ…»πŸ…΄πŸ†‚ This game is heavy on the narrative and not really focused on the puzzle elements. You'll probably notice throughout the game that most of the "puzzles" were merely observation based which you'll be able to solve the solutions through the drawings that you were presented with or the information from the narrative. Some solutions were meant to be whimsical rather than logical. If you are looking for puzzle heavy games, I would suggest trying their regular audio escape games. πŸ…²πŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ†‚πŸ…ΈπŸ…½πŸ…Ά πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…ΎπŸ†„πŸ…ΆπŸ…·πŸ†ƒπŸ†‚ The narrative of this game was created to not only deliver witty jokes to make the players laugh but also to give them something deeper to ponder about after the game. From the start of the game until the end, it was as if we were watching a documentary on the main character. With the detailed and vivid graphics and the interaction with numerous mythical creatures, it really bought this magical world to life. The puzzles became secondary for me during this game. I would invite anyone who enjoys fantasy to embark on this breathtaking spiritual odyssey. π”Όπ•Šβ„‚π”Έβ„™π”Όπ•‹β„π”Όβ„π•†π•†π•„π•–π•£π•€ ℙ𝕒π•₯π•£π• π•Ÿβœπ•€ π•‹π•™π• π•¦π•˜π•™π•₯𝕀 RJ G. Pros Art direction and world building are fantastic Our GM was fun and engaging Puzzles require outside the box thinking Cons Lack of "traditional" puzzles Character interactions weren't very meaningful Spirit Train is an online audio game that is very much tabletop RPG inspired. The world is described through the spoken narrative and supplemented with beautiful Ghibli style images. Instead of traditional puzzles, this game opts instead for lateral thinking style challenges that require the solvers to make creative use of the items and world around them to progress. Since the entire game flows through the GM their can be some struggle for the steering wheel. Even with our party of 5 we had some contention. I would recommend groups of 2-4 for any of Trapped Escape Room's games. I would highly recommend this game for players familiar with D&D style experiences. This game isn't for everyone though, and I can see less experienced folks being confused or frustrated with the lack of physical things to interact with. _____________________________________________________________ Jacqueline G. I didn’t enjoy this escape room as much because it just felt like listening to a story more than trying to solve anything (my frustration with not being heard also didn’t help lol). I almost felt like I was taking a listening comprehension test more than β€œescaping” something. Only some parts felt solvable. I liked the feel of the town where they just kind of throwing us with 100 different things and see what we come up with. That was neat. The story itself was like a fable with a moral and felt a bit cheesy. I did think the guy hosting was exceptional at his job and had we had someone boring or less talented it would have been a huge fail, however, he made the story engulfing. That being said the GMs characters were top notch I only wish some of them could stick around to be interacted with more. ______________________________________________________________ Andrew K. Spirit Train is a spectacular experience that I can't recommend enough. This audio narrative takes you and your crew on a whimsical journey through the spirit world. There are wonderful characters you get to meet along the way, and a few mysteries to solve. The sandbox nature of the experience allows your character to try a variety of solutions to the puzzle, and creativity and silliness are encouraged. The custom artwork is absolutely beautiful, and you'll appreciate the homages to other whimsical fantasy stories. The whole experience was wonderful, well-produced, and you could see a lot of heart in it. I admittedly had my doubts about an audio experience, but I strongly recommend this experience. As his apprentice and a student of Monster Hunter Academy, you are ready to avenge for the professor. The protection spell will only work for an hour. Hurry! πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΆπŸ…°πŸ…ΌπŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ…»πŸ…°πŸ†ˆ You and your team will be joined by a game master over Zoom. The game master will introduce the backstory through audio. The puzzles will be presented to you in image format. Once our team confirmed that we're ready, our game master got into character right away. It felt like we've just entered into the world of Harry Potter (it would be nice to have some added music components to go along with the audio story). The graphics were really pretty. It had a nice color selection. Kind of reminded us of those ancient magic books. The goal of the game is to identify the monster, make an elixir, choose a weapon and vanquish the beast. We're able to inform the GM on what we like to do and "explore" the various areas. We liked how the images were able to be zoom in when we wanted to take a closer look at certain areas. The GM was also helpful at guiding us on what's important and what not to waste time on. Another great thing that this game had that we haven't seen other audio escape rooms do is providing a "before and after" image. It was satisfying to see the "unlocking" photo after confirming the answers were correct by the GM. πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ†„πŸ†‰πŸ†‰πŸ…»πŸ…΄πŸ†‚ All of the puzzles revolved around the mythical theme. At times we found ourselves looking into the detail drawings of these lovely creatures and forgotten to solve puzzles. Even though the puzzles are designed in a nonlinear way, because only one image can be shown on the screen each time, you'll have to work on the puzzles together as a team. However you can jump around and explore various areas if you want to come back to a puzzle that you're stuck on. Since there's no inventory system for individual players, I found that it was easier to take photos with my phone (of course delete them right after the game) rather than writing items down. This way your team doesn't have to wait for you to write down things or stay on that image for too long. We worked together nicely as a team of 4 and completed the game in 40 minutes. The puzzles were quite satisfying even for experienced players. πŸ…²πŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ†‚πŸ…ΈπŸ…½πŸ…Ά πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…ΎπŸ†„πŸ…ΆπŸ…·πŸ†ƒπŸ†‚ If you enjoy mythical creatures and want to imagine yourself being a hero like Harry Potter for once, you'll definitely want to check out this game. If your GM would like to entertain you, I'm sure you'll have a ton of fun doing some magic spells that you wouldn't be able to do in an in-person escape room. Good luck with beast and make sure to explore every inch of the room! π”Όπ•Šβ„‚π”Έβ„™π”Όπ•‹β„π”Όβ„π•†π•†π•„π•–π•£π•€βœ β„™.𝕀.π•€βœ π•‹π•™π• π•¦π•˜π•™π•₯𝕀 Jen M. Last night I played LuCo's Monster Hunters Academy with Brandon, Cici, and Matt. (This was quite brave on my part. We've never met in real life, but I'm 98.6% certain that Cici is a vampire based on the timestamps of the emails she's sent me.) The theme of this online audio escape is a familiar genreβ€”filled with werewolves, vampires, goblins, and other creatures that go bump in the night and requiring enchanted weapons, magic potions, and that sort of thing to save the dayβ€”which makes it easy to jump in. But the game maker's approach feels respectful and celebratory, not derivative or imitative. Kudos. The game progresses through a series of illustrated images as the gamemaster narrates the story (in a surprisingly effective fake accent). The graphic style is professional, consistent, playful, and aesthetically pleasing. The illustrations manage to offer lots of visual interest with enough details to keep you on your toes looking for clues while not sacrificing clarity or misleading you. The artist found the perfect balance. The puzzle elements were well suited to collaborative team game play, and there were enough of them to keep us fully entertained. The degree of difficulty matched the advertised level of Medium. The puzzles, the artwork, and the fun attitude all rate a thumbs up from me. I had no major complaints, so instead I'll throw an idea out to LuCo: I think a few well-timed sound effects would be a great addition to the overall experience. Our result? In the end, our team prevailed and defeated a mythical creatureβ€”and hopefully Cici won't drink our blood. ______________________________________________________________ Matthew L. Pros + The artwork was phenomenal! It had a weathered paper, parchment feel to it, which fit the theme perfectly. + The puzzles were well thought out, logical and themed into the story. + The host (Kate) was amazing! Her voice acting brought such an amazing feel to the game. + Sooo many easter eggs for anyone who is into monster hunting and monster-lore! Cons - One logic puzzle could have used different wording as we were not entirely sure what they were asking. (grasping for straws really to find something I didn't like....) Overall This game was amazing and definitely one of the better audio escape rooms I have done. It hit all the right chords for me; the artwork, the story, the GM interaction and her role playing. There were also a ton of Easter eggs that I loved as a monster-lore fan. I would highly recommend getting some friends together and doing this game! She quickly realized that we're a bunch of people that revolve our lives around solving puzzles and so she went straight to the game. Accompanied by her enchanted voice, we immediately immersed ourselves into this fairy tale world. We've learned from the first game we've played with LuCo Online Escape Rooms that we're big fans of their graphics and this game amazed us in the same way. The first image gave us detailed depiction of inside the house where we're able to interact with various objects by telling the GM which one we would want to take a closer look. Some images could be enlarged and those were the ones that we needed to pay attention to. Our GM did not let us waste our time on irrelevant information. The goal of this game was not your typical escape with a lock and key type but more of a detective vibe, As we searched for clues and solved puzzles, we're able to determine the who, where, what and why. πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ†„πŸ†‰πŸ†‰πŸ…»πŸ…΄πŸ†‚ There were a lot of fun items that you and your team would be able to explore in this game. She also gave us moments where we're able to take on some role playing as well by reading out clues ourselves. I can just imagine the fun the kids would have in this game especially if they get into character. The puzzles were not as challenging being that we're 5 fairly experienced puzzlers so we finished in 40 minutes. If you're good at paying attention to detail and associating items together, you've already won half of the battle. Teamwork is very important and don't be afraid to try everything! What happen to all your friends? πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΆπŸ…°πŸ…ΌπŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ…»πŸ…°πŸ†ˆ The format for this game is the same as the other two LuCo games. You and your team will be greeted by a GM on Zoom. The entire experience will be like listening to an audio story with the GM narrating most of the time but if you like to read, I'm sure you'll have your moment to shine. We really liked how our GM Katie gave our teammates a few chance to "perform". It definitely makes the experience more engaging. We began the game with a beautiful illustration of Jimmy's house. The VCR, video game consoles, snacks and posters brought back so much memories from the 80s. One thing we really appreciate from LuCo Online Escape Rooms is that they really thought about the players perspective when designing their games. There's always a "before" and "after" photo that would be provided once the players know what they need to do for certain puzzle. They also don't like to waste players time by adding in red herrings. So if the GM says there's no photos to show for that area or item then that pretty much means move on and don't waste time here. πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ†„πŸ†‰πŸ†‰πŸ…»πŸ…΄πŸ†‚ If you're a D&D fan, you might have a slight upper hand on some of the puzzles but there's absolutely no outside knowledge needed for this game. The goal of the game is to find the missing dices and figure out how the friends went missing from Jimmy's last roll. Since the puzzles are non linear and there are spread out around the room, feel free to designate a team leader to be the "explorer". There were a good mixture of logic, visual, phonics type of puzzles. We really enjoyed piecing together relevant information from one area to another. The puzzles had a really nice flow. πŸ…²πŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ†‚πŸ…ΈπŸ…½πŸ…Ά πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…ΎπŸ†„πŸ…ΆπŸ…·πŸ†ƒπŸ†‚ We've been really amazed by the creativity at LuCo Online Escape Rooms. Basement & Barbarians is an audio escape game where we were greeted by a game master once we logged into Zoom. She will show an illustration of the 'room' we are in, describing the story and layout of the room, and we can let her know whichever part of the room we want to explore. She will then show a close up view of that area. Hence, following this format, it is similar to a real life escape room, looking around and trying to solve the puzzles based on the illustrations. For this particular game, 2 things stood out that made this a very memorable experience compared to other audio escape games. Firstly, our game master, Katie. She was totally into character while narrating the story, so much that I wouldn't be surprised if she was a voice actress for animations! It was so immersive just to hear her narrate and describe the things in the room that it sounds like we were there ourselves! Secondly, the illustrations were top notch. It was resembling the 1980s Dungeons and Dragons game theme, and the artwork was amazing. Samples can be found on their website, and trust me, the entire game is made of those illustrations! I was further amazed when we heard after the game that these graphics were actually drawn by a person, and not computer graphics! Of course, besides the theatrics and role playing, the puzzles have to be good if not it will defeat the purpose. I am glad to say the puzzles were excellent. Most of the puzzles fit into the 'D&D' theme or gaming in the 1980s in general. There were references to different video games and 'character building'. It was one of the better rooms I have seen that incorporates themes into their puzzles and the puzzles are not mainly there just for fillers. Fans of D&D will definitely like this game, but so would puzzle lovers and enthusiasts. Highly recommended! *** We regret to inform this company has closed its doors *** Disclosure: We thank LuCo Online Escape Rooms for comping our tickets for this game. But when he suddenly disappears after bringing home a new artifact, you fear the worst, and head over to his workplace to investigate. πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΆπŸ…°πŸ…ΌπŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ…»πŸ…°πŸ†ˆ When we logged into Zoom, we were greeted by a game master, where we were briefed on the story and our end goal. The entire game was played over Zoom where our game master shared a screen and reveal the areas of the museum exhibit one at a time as we solved puzzles. The entire layout of the museum was shaded with black boxes at first. Once we started to explore the museum, our GM would let us know if certain areas were locked or open. If they were open, she would open up the blocked section so we would gain access to a new area of the museum. If they were locked, we would need to solve a puzzle for a code in order to be allowed into that area. The game felt like a Dungeons and Dragon game where we would tell our game master things like "we wish to look at the poster" and she would describe our actions to us as we investigated the poster and revealed important clues if there was one. It would be handy to take down notes as the museum was quite large with many different rooms and items of interest. The story unveiled itself as we solved various puzzles and eventually we were able to discover what had really happened to our uncle. πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ†„πŸ†‰πŸ†‰πŸ…»πŸ…΄πŸ†‚ The main gist of the game was to investigate item and visualize how they could be utilized. For example, once the game master mentioned that a particular item needed something in order for it to operate. Once we found that item in the later part of the game, we were able to put two and two together. Of course, there were a couple of puzzles that required us to think outside of the box or visualize directions or decipher codes, but they were mainly logical and straightforward. Most of the items on the museum floor plan could not be enlarged. We had to use our imagination which became another part of a puzzle. It was great to be able to challenge ourselves this way. We really enjoyed that certain reveal felt very IRL escape room like as they were able to open up new spaces that was unexpected. Certain things that we were able to do and combine were also quite humorous. There was definitely a few Easter Eggs you can discover from other popular games. πŸ…²πŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ†‚πŸ…ΈπŸ…½πŸ…Ά πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…ΎπŸ†„πŸ…ΆπŸ…·πŸ†ƒπŸ†‚ Oswald's Marvelous Museum felt like a choose your own adventure novel. Our GM Lauren did a great job putting in her personal touch on GMing this audio experience. Hearing her narrate is quite immersive as she described everything with enthusiasm and clarity. I even closed my eyes a few times to just soak in the narrative and imagined we were actually there at the museum. For an audio escape game, I felt that the game master can either make or break the game, but Lauren delivered in spades. She also did a great job with knowing how much to nudge us or let us know if we're going down the rabbit hole but without spoilers. The Locked Room is also quite generous with their time limitations. We finished right before the hour mark but if you needed more time, you can definitely have more. So definitely take your time to enjoy the Oswald's Marvelous Museum if you're not the competitive type of player! *** We regret to inform this game is no longer available for booking but check out other in-person escape rooms on their website*** Disclosure: We thank The Locked Room for comping our tickets for this game.
