The Ministry is determined to find him, but there may be more to the story. Inspired by the Fantastic Beasts series, this fictional tale invites players to dive in and uncover the truth. Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐ฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE Embarking on the magical adventure, players find themselves in an unassuming room that holds the key to unlocking a world of secrets. The game creators have carefully crafted an immersive experience, filled with hidden doors and passageways that are expertly concealed. As participants explore the room, they can't help but feel a sense of anticipation and wonder, as if they are stepping into a realm of magic reserved for witches and wizards. Vortex Escape Games excels at introducing the enchanting realm of fantastic beasts, even for those who may not be avid fans of the series. Throughout the game, they skillfully avoid overwhelming players with the intricacies of the world, allowing everyone to fully immerse themselves in the magical experience. ๐งฉ MISSED THE MARK One of the puzzles involving the creature's nests demands a certain level of dexterity from players. While the solution itself is intuitive, the process of completing the puzzle may lead to some frustration. Despite the game's strong immersive elements and compelling storyline, the final decision presented to our group left us feeling uncertain and confused about the potential consequences of our actions. While the choice was certainly thought-provoking, it could have benefited from clearer exposition or more context to fully understand its impact on the story's resolution. ๐น TAKE A SHOT? The set design and creative use of space in "The Bottomless Suitcase" is truly remarkable. Upon entering the first room, even experienced players may underestimate the game's potential. LOCATION: Quebec City, Quebec, Canada Photo above is property of A Double Tour Immersive Experiences Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐ย ย ETR DECODER ๐ GAME: In Wonderland ๐ DATE PLAYED: March 13, 2023 ๐ฌ GENRE: Fantasy ๐ง DIFFICULTY (Based on 3 Players): 4/10 ๐ฅ TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 1-4 PPL ๐ LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. ๐ฐ PRICE: CAD $33.50/PP โ๏ธ BOOKING TYPE: Private ๐ ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: YES ๐ THE STORY Enter the enchanting world of "In Wonderland", set in 1865 England. Upon finding yourself in a mysterious burrow, you soon discover that the queen of this peculiar realm wants you gone, preferably without a head. Now, trapped in this topsy-turvy land where madness reigns and the weather behaves oddly, you must rely on your logic and wits to escape before the queen captures you. Immerse yourself in the whimsical and paradoxical atmosphere of Wonderland as you navigate its twisted corridors and encounter mind-bending challenges. Unravel the mysteries, solve the puzzles, and outsmart the queen to secure your freedom and return home. With each step closer to escaping, the line between reality and fantasy blurs, testing your critical thinking and logical reasoning skills. Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐ฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Wonderland within this game, where the decor captures the essence of the beloved source material and the timeless charm of the classic Disney film. The attention to detail and love for the source material shine through, creating a visually stunning and captivating experience. From whimsical landscapes to iconic elements, the decor of Wonderland transports players into a realm of magic and fantasy. Step into a room design unlike any other, as Wonderland comes to life in a way that uniquely captures the essence of its whimsical and fantastical nature. This game takes full advantage of its setting, incorporating elements that create an immersive experience impossible to replicate elsewhere. From long crawl spaces to uneven floors and moving walls, every detail is carefully crafted to transport players into the peculiar world of Wonderland. The attention to detail in the room design creates an atmosphere where you truly feel like you've stepped into another realm, fully embracing the quirks and charm of this magical land ๐งฉ MISSED THE MARK During our adventure in Wonderland, there was a particular puzzle in the first room that presented some challenges. Unfortunately, the instructions for this puzzle felt somewhat unclear and lacked specificity. As a result, our group found ourselves repeatedly attempting a code that did not seem to yield any progress, leading to confusion and uncertainty about whether we were on the right track One notable feature is the unique "drink me" potion experience, where players metaphorically shrink in size, leading to a next room that is built at a reduced height of 4 ft. This inventive concept initially adds to the immersion and excitement, as players find themselves crouching and crawling through the puzzles. However, as the game progresses, the prolonged duration of this physical challenge may become tiring, leaving players longing to stand up straight once more. While it adds an intriguing twist to the gameplay, it's worth noting that the puzzle's novelty could benefit from a more balanced duration to ensure a consistently enjoyable experience throughout the entire game. The hint system in this Wonderland-themed room added an enjoyable and immersive element to the game. The game master assuming the role of the Mad Hatter was a creative touch that enhanced the overall experience. However, a limitation of the hint system was the absence of video and cameras, which made it challenging for the Mad Hatter to accurately assess our progress and location within the room. While the sporadic appearances of the Mad Hatter added a whimsical element, it would have been beneficial to have more consistent and reliable communication for effective guidance throughout the game. The penultimate room in this Wonderland-themed game was lengthy and demanding, requiring significant effort from players. However, upon reaching the final room, the conclusion of the game felt somewhat abrupt and lacking in terms of providing a satisfying ending to the overall experience. Given the whimsical and wacky nature of the room, it would have been ideal to have a more elaborate and fulfilling conclusion that appropriately wrapped up the game's storyline. ๐น TAKE A SHOT? "In Wonderland" offers a captivating escape into the whimsical world of Wonderland. The room's decor is meticulously crafted, immersing players in a fantastical setting inspired by classic tales. The imaginative design choices and attention to detail bring the magic of Wonderland to life, making it a joy to explore. The room design itself is a standout feature, providing a unique and immersive experience. With crawl spaces, uneven floors, and moving walls, players are transported into the peculiar and unpredictable world of Wonderland. It adds an extra layer of excitement and adventure to the game. However, there are some areas that could benefit from improvement. One particular puzzle in the first room lacked clear instructions, leading to confusion among players and detracting from the overall experience. Additionally, the penultimate room presented lengthy and challenging puzzles, which may have caused some players to feel fatigued or overwhelmed. The hint system, with the game master assuming the role of the Mad Hatter, adds a fun and thematic element to the game. However, the lack of video and camera feeds, along with occasional interruptions from the Mad Hatter who may not be aware of players' progress, could be improved to provide clearer guidance and support. The conclusion of the game felt somewhat abrupt, leaving players wanting a more satisfying and fulfilling ending. A stronger and more cohesive conclusion would have provided a more memorable finale to the whimsical journey through Wonderland. Despite these minor drawbacks, In Wonderland remains an enjoyable and engaging room, particularly for those who appreciate the enchantment and wonder of the Wonderland universe. The immersive decor, unique room design, and inventive hint system contribute to an entertaining adventure. Step into a realm that exists between life and death, where a pact with the enigmatic YรBE awaits. Sign the contract, journey through the captivating memories of the YรBE, and discover the elusive exit that holds the key to your return to the land of the living. As you navigate this otherworldly realm, you will unravel the rich folklore and cultural heritage of Quebec, immersing yourself in its captivating narratives and mythical creatures. For main English speakers, YรBE is more of a concept than an actual being. As was described to us before the start of the game, โGo to the YรBEโ is closely related to โGo to Hell '' hence why this game is focused on the more folklore of the Quebec region. Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐ฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE The incorporation of Quebec folklore in this escape room is a truly distinctive and refreshing concept within the industry. While not all English speakers may be familiar with the specific term "YรBE," the game cleverly introduces well-known elements such as the Loup-Garou (Werewolves) and the rich folklore surrounding lumberjacks. This allows players to engage with and appreciate the captivating tales and legends that shape Quebec's cultural heritage. The set decor in A Double Tour is impressive, with each room designed as a unique "vignette" that represents a different Quebec legend. The attention to detail is evident, and the scenic design effectively captures the essence of each story. The visuals help to immerse players in the world of the legends, adding to the overall experience of the game. The carefully crafted set decor contributes to the authenticity of the themes and creates a memorable atmosphere for players to enjoy. A Double Tour successfully enhances the immersion by incorporating a unique element at the beginning of the game. The inclusion of a literal contract that players must sign to enter the room adds a sense of anticipation and engagement right from the start. It creates a feeling of being fully involved in the experience and sets the tone for the rest of the game. ๐งฉ MISSED THE MARK Game design and concept of this room was quite engaging, there were some areas that could have been improved in terms of puzzle clues and player experience. In certain instances, puzzles that spanned multiple levels lacked clear and intuitive guidance, making it challenging for the team to progress smoothly. Additionally, there was a segment in the game that required players to crouch down for extended periods, which coupled with inadequate lighting, made it difficult to locate the necessary items or clues. ๐น TAKE A SHOT? Embark on a captivating journey through the rich folklore of Quebec with "Go to the YรBE" by A Double Tour. This unique escape room experience immerses players in the tales and legends of the region, offering a distinct theme that explores the concept of Y BE and its connection to "Go to Hell." The set design in "Go to the YรBE" is masterfully crafted, creating an immersive environment that transports players into different rooms, each representing a specific legend. The attention to detail and thematic execution allow players to easily identify and engage with the folklore being portrayed. From the moment of entering the room and signing a contract, players are immediately immersed in the narrative, adding a sense of anticipation and investment in their journey through the tales and legends of Quebec. While "Go to the YรBE" offers a captivating experience overall, there are certain areas that could benefit from further improvement. Some puzzles that span multiple levels may lack clear clues or intuitive guidance, presenting challenges for players in progressing through the game. Additionally, there are instances where low lighting and the need to crouch down for extended periods make it more difficult to locate important items or clues. In conclusion, "Go to the YรBE" provides a unique and captivating escape room adventure that delves into the folklore of Quebec. With its immersive set design and thematic storytelling, the game offers an engaging experience for those seeking to explore the legends of the region. While there are areas that could be enhanced in terms of puzzle clarity and physical accessibility, the overall concept and execution of "Go to Y BE" make it a noteworthy addition to the escape room landscape, inviting players to discover the enchanting world of Quebec's tales and legends. If I had the chance to build an escape room, this is what I would imagine it to be...As a huge Disney fan, I was very excited for this remote experience. Our mission was to help the seven dwarves destroy the poison apple. The only way the evil queen would not be able to get to it would be for us to take it to the center of the Earth. Let's get digging! After watching the intro video and saying hi to our lovely avatar Liz, our team and Escape Mattster started exploring the room immediately. Liz did a great job giving us an overview of the room. If that's not enough, the inventory list was very clear and helpful. The set design felt like it came straight out of a Disney movie. We felt the presence of the seven dwarves through the tools, utensils, and their cute little boots! It was great to see the props being utilized perfectly with the puzzles. As we proudly completed the first room, we were immediately wowed by what came next. Let's just say, there were more to this than meets the eye... As we ventured deeper into the Earth, we realized we really we couldn't take a breather with this game. There were puzzles after puzzles. It was very satisfying. Although we got stuck on one of them for a bit, we still finished with 13 minutes remaining. We didn't have much to nitpick about on this room. The only three complains I have were: 1. Why didn't I wait to play this in person? 2. How come the creator didn't just make this into a never ending game? 3. Please make more Disney themed rooms! You guys are awesome at it! I still "dream" about it till this day. When Hilda was first introduced on the camera screen, I fell in love with her character right away. Once she began to show us her home, i fell in love with the set design. As we continued our adventure, I fell more and more in love with the whole story line. When we think of witches, evil is what normally comes to mind. Hilda was definitely not that. She was kind, caring and truly loved her forest. The story began with Hilda discovering that a trickster came into the forest and decided to put a lot of pranks in her beloved home. As she was trying to "heal" the forest from the damages, the spirits in the forest helped her figure out who was behind these evil doings. It seemed like a human was the culprit and now she's going to plan her revenge. When we got the invite to play this room, we were wondering if the promo photo was what the room was really going to look like. I can confirm to you all that what you see is what you'll get! The puzzles weren't too difficult but they were closely tied with the theme of the room. The inventory portal contained photos and videos that were all high in quality. Every time you entered a password, a spirit would give you a "vision" (headphones recommended). This definitely added the level of immersion. We did have some players that had issues with logging in to some pages on the portal but but at the end, it did not affect our play. Hilda's character also made this game memorable. Her comebacks were witty and humorous. She kept us entertained the entire time. We used so many different expressions in this game that we probably lost count. Some sounds and expressions we've made throughout the game were: "wow", "huh", "ahh", "did that just happen?", "sooo cute!", "wait a minute...", "take one for the team!" etc. A final component we loved about this game was the way the story was able to incorporate different scenarios through a "lucky" roll of a dice and you never know what you'll get... This remote escape game felt like a full production on Broadway. From the set design to avatar's character to inventory system to player's involvement, it was the complete package. It's safe to say this was one of our favorite remote experiences. When you visit Hilda at her magic forest, let us know how "lucky" you got with your ending. We had a "JAWS" dropping moment... *** This game can no longer be booked as a remote game but can still be booked as an in-person experience *** (If you do decide to try this game, please remember to let them know that you heard it from"ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) Check out our first visit on "The Witch's Forest". ๐๐ ท๐ ด ๐๐๐ พ๐๐ Hilda is tired of being all alone during the holidays and decided to visit the human realm to see what humans do during this time of the year. She found herself very intrigued by "Christmas". She took a few things back to her cabin from the humans and decided to see if she can make a celebration of her own... ๐๐ ท๐ ด ๐ ถ๐ ฐ๐ ผ๐ ด ๐ ฟ๐ ป๐ ฐ๐ The entire game was played on Zoom. There was no need for inventory system or any code entering. If you've played "The Witch's Forest" before, the game uses the same set design but added flavors of Christmas as dรฉcor. Hilda, our avatar was engaging and humorous as always. As we solved a puzzle, a live video will be released from the back end and we'll be able to see a pre-recorded video of the result from our actions. This made us feel like we're watching a movie and took us out of the feeling of playing a game in front of a computer at home. It also gave the players less things they would have to maneuver in case they are not as tech savvy. Daydream Adventures always like to embed a player's choice element into their games and this time, it was no different. As you can see we're on the "nice list" so we went with the nice option. I'm curious to hear about your naughty experience if you decide to go that route! ๐๐ ท๐ ด ๐ ฟ๐๐๐๐ ป๐ ด๐ We played this game with 4 other enthusiasts/bloggers so our experience could be different from yours. The game is quite linear since every player needed to be looking at the same screen to solve the same puzzle together before they could move forward. Since we've seen some of these puzzle designs before, a lot of us thought of the solution at the same time. We all want to shoutout the answer but it'll be quite difficult for Hilda to hear. There were several puzzles where we felt like designating one player to say the answer would be the best scenario. I spend a lot of time just watching other players and solving the puzzles in my head. The puzzles were not difficult. A lot of them were more of "identifying and associating" type of feel. Most felt like a "supporting role" for the storyline. ๐ ฒ๐ ป๐ พ๐๐ ธ๐ ฝ๐ ถ ๐๐ ท๐ พ๐๐ ถ๐ ท๐๐ We always love the creativity from Daydream Adventures. They're constantly trying to come out with new ideas to try to make their magical forest seem more real to the audience on a virtual platform. For this game, I wouldn't recommend too many players if you are experienced (2-4 would be our recommendation). But if you care less about fighting over puzzles but can focus more on the theatrical aspects of this game then you'll love it regardless. Hilda has never disappointed us with her witchery "sparkles"! *** We regret to inform this game is no longer available for booking but check out other games on their website*** Disclosure: We thank Daydream Adventures for comping our tickets for this game. There are very well-defined goals as you progress through the room that helps guide players during the experience that allowed you to focus on the puzzles. The reveals in this room were well done and perfectly time. It catered to the theme beautifully and created an immersive experience. The flow of this game was effective ramping up the tension over the course of the room. The urgency that builds never felt overwhelming and, instead, it exhilarated players to keep going. Puzzles were not difficult but required teamwork to complete and thus fit the theme of the room to encourage players to collaborate. The components of the room are well placed and each has an intention that encourages you to travel back in between rooms. Elements of the game are hidden with care and consideration of creating multiple โahaโ moments. The travel kit you received at the start of the mission was really useful with a writing tablet and flashlights. The light story for the game was effectively entwined into the experience as you progressed. ๐งฉ MISSED THE MARK One puzzle did run into a tech issue when it became jammed but, thankfully, the GM had a backup item for us. ๐น TAKE A SHOT? "Project: Genesis" was an experience filled with satisfying and well designed puzzles that keep you engaged throughout. There was never a moment we felt that experience lulled and the design and set gave us plenty to look at, examine, and explore. The puzzles range in their challenges and did so with a recognition of building players up in the game. This game is for players who have keen eyes and enjoy searching for the โahaโs of great puzzling. I would say this game is tailored for more mid-tier and experienced players but larger beginner groups who arenโt afraid to ask for help would really enjoy this. After completing this game, I am intrigued to see where T.Y.M.E. Corp will take me next and look forward to the next mission! โน๏ธ ADDITIONAL INFO Parking is available behind the building. You have a shortwave radio over which a local military commander broadcasts a message needing help - a rogue AI is planning to launch a nuclear device from a nearby military facility. If nobody can shut down the AI to neutralize the threat, the Air Force will strike the facility in just over an hour in order to destroy it, before the missile can become airborne. That would kill all nearby campers! So, you and your friends realize you must break into the facility to try to shut down the AI and prevent the launch. Video above is property of Escape Games Canada ๐ฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE "Bunker: AI's Martyrdom" has a very different feel from any escape room I have done previously. The construction of the facility is heavy duty, all made from real materials (metal doors and pipes, cots, etc., without foam or similar mock-ups) in order to create a true military outpost replica, not just a look-alike. While it is still a progressive experience, there are multiple possible paths and endings, as well as multiple ways to overcome various obstacles - depending on your team's creativity and teamwork. The game operators are able to moderate at least one aspect of the difficulty based on your progress. The narrative is well-developed. This experience prioritizes replicating a real-world scenario over clever puzzle design, so paying attention and thinking about information presented as you work through the adventure is important. Communication between members of your team is vital and integrated well into the design of the challenges. This adventure provided the opportunity for Mission Impossible-style accomplishments that wouldn't be found in a traditional escape room. Almost everything in the room is in-play in an open sandbox format, rather than the typical 'this is for puzzles, this is a red herring/set dressing' design. ๐งฉ MISSED THE MARK While some members of our team loved the physical challenge nature of some of the tasks in this adventure, body type (long limbs, thinness) and physical strength were major advantages - as opposed to a typical room where physicality is largely irrelevant We only asked for one hint, but the pre-printed hint provided only told us what we already knew, rather than nudging us in the direction of how to accomplish the task with which we were struggling. ๐น TAKE A SHOT? RevoEscape's new style of adventure isn't for everyone. While most escape rooms are moving toward providing a successful and enjoyable experience for everyone, Revo makes it clear from the start that failure is always an option. This creates both the possibility for a very frustrating and unrewarding experience, as well as allowing for true celebration if the objective is accomplished. We made it out with just a few minutes to spare and were definitely sweating the final challenge, leading us to make some last-minute mistakes. The panic was real - but that made the escape all the sweeter! If you're looking for a solely cerebral experience, you may well find this lacking. On the other hand, if you're looking to push yourself physically in ways you've only seen on the big screen, hoping to flex your creative problem-solving muscles, and willing to embrace the confusion and panic that comes with not knowing what you're doing or what is coming next, RevoEscape will unleash your hidden Jason Bourne and Red Sparrow! ๐ HINT There's more to the story than breaking and entering, so pay attention to the details of the set design! โน๏ธ ADDITIONAL INFO RevoEscape has plenty of free parking in a lot outside. The lobby is decorated in a grim, stripped down manner that matches the realistic style of the challenges they've created. They do have a small selection of board and card games (some in English, others in Han or perhaps Kanji) to play while you wait. Although the location is accessible, the highly physical nature of this game doesn't lend itself to people with mobility concerns. These games are more akin to real-life simulations than traditional escape rooms; the puzzle-and-lock format is eschewed in favor of challenges that more closely mimic the difficulties one might face if such a situation arose in real life. Rather than dreams, she is sending nightmares to the human world! She has stepped out for one hour, and you must find a way to free the spirits in order to restore peace and ensure a good nightโs sleep to people everywhereโฆ ๐ฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE "Dream Portal" is unforgettable for the level of artistry evident in creating its world, which is at its peak in the game itself but begins the moment you enter Daydream Adventures, and even pervades the washrooms! The result is simply magical. They evoke two distinct feelings between the spirit forest โ which is beautifully ethereal โ and Hildaโs hut โ which somehow manages to be simultaneously dark and creepy yet still endearing. The designers facilitated very smooth gameplay, with a largely linear flow that is well-suited to both beginners and larger groups. They foster communication and involvement of more players by continuing to use the forest area for many of the puzzles within the hut. While the game may not overly challenge enthusiasts, we admired the clear signposting and still delighted in the whimsy and thematic nature of the puzzles, which were fluidly integrated. Indeed, we were impressed by how they managed to create an incredibly rich and layered set without creating confusion as to what components might actually be in play for solves. We also enjoyed the varied ways they utilized several specific set elements within puzzles. There is an utterly adorable hint mechanismโฆa small critter that you bring along on your quest, and you can press his tongue if you ever need any help! ๐งฉ MISSED THE MARK There were a few very minor technical issues, where components were a bit fiddly, and a cipher where the symbols were perhaps a bit more similar than they needed to be (particularly for older eyes). However, these were all very minor and did not keep us from being swept away by the experience. ๐น TAKE A SHOT? We had some idea of what we would be walking into in advance, as we knew this was the same set used when we played "The Witchโs Forest" online โ though entirely different puzzles. However, being immersed in the environment is even more captivating and miraculous than seeing it on a screen. We recommend Dream Portal for all those who appreciate beauty and whimsy, and are ready for a magical, well-designed experience rather than a brain-burning session. The level of artistry is truly exceptional. Whether your childhood fairytale vision involved a sparkly rainbow forest populated by gnomes or a dark witch's hut filled with artifacts, this is your chance to live the dream! ๐ HINT There are some actual physical padlocks if you look aroundโฆ Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers โน๏ธ ADDITIONAL INFO Daydream Adventures is located down a flight of stairs, with paid street parking available nearby. There is a seating area, a large locker for players of each of their games, and two washrooms. The facility really doubles as an art installation, and it is a gorgeous space to wait for your game to begin. The ambience hits you as soon as you enter from the street, with whimsical decorations in the hallways and stairway. The staff were friendly and enthusiastic, and we loved that they wore pins with their pronouns on them! The only way to bring back his memories is to find your brother. Chapter 2 โ Itโs time to put on your time travel suits, so that you can return to the past to find clues on your brotherโs whereabouts. Chapter 3 โ You finally face the villain who took your brother! You must save him and bring him back to the present! What happens at the end? Play the trilogy to find out! ๐ฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE The idea of transforming the same space into (3) different escape rooms was genius. We have not seen anything like this before. There was no confusion during our gameplay, nor were there any moments where we felt like a puzzle or prop should not have belonged there. The puzzles were designed to resemble piecing together lost memories as we solved each puzzle. It was beautifully crafted with music and dialogue. The set design made us feel like weโve entered a comic book story world. We loved the vibrant colors and secret features that were embedded inside of the props. There was a sound puzzle that we were surprised on how the solution was โenteredโ. This is the first time weโve encountered something like this. If you have extra time at the end, do not miss out on the side missions. They were just adorable! ๐งฉ MISSED THE MARK A color puzzle that had to do with wires needed some more light in the area. Due to the "red lighting", it was quite difficult to see. One of the side missions had multiple solutions which we told the GM as we were the first group to discover this alternate answer. A clue that informed us on how to input answers for future puzzles was reversed which caused confusion for the solution was to be entered. One prop needed some updating as the clue was difficult to visualize since it was pretty faded. ๐น TAKE A SHOT? Each chapter of this trilogy was 45-minutes. You can play each of them separately and even out of order since at the beginning of each chapter there is a short video that provides a summary recap of the story thus far. If you must ask which is my favorite, Iโll have to say Chapter 2. The puzzles had the best flow and the most touching narrative. As enthusiasts, we love this trilogy concept (make sure to thank the GM's as it takes them about 10-minutes or so to reset and prep the room!). Currently, this room is just in a single room setting but I can totally envision a multi-room concept developing from this idea. I highly recommend playing all three chapters to fully absorb the story and check out the different ways the room was utilized for various puzzles. Youโll also realize that the chapters do get harder in terms of puzzles, but the gameplay will get easier as you familiarize yourself with how the room operates (some useful hints: check the iPad constantly, make sure to pay attention to the TV, and take notice of any changes in the room). Can you find the killer and the murder weapon in time? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐ฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE For puzzle lovers, this game had a ton of puzzles and locks. The game was also non-linear so you could work on different puzzles separately and piece the evidence together later. The checklist was a nice tool for the progression of the game. As we solved puzzles, clues and information on the killer were revealed bit by bit. It was satisfying when we discovered the final note when the motive and culprit were revealed to us. ๐งฉ MISSED THE MARK The reading materials were way too long. Some were also difficult to read due to the scripted writing and faded paper. There were a couple of puzzles that consumed a lot of our time. They felt like puzzles from puzzle books. Good thing there was a couch in the room as I felt like I was doing crossword puzzles at home for half of the game. Unscramble was used a lot in the puzzles but there were no indications on why we had to do so. Since this is an estate, we felt that a multi-room experience would be more enjoyable (especially if there were hidden secrets). The props need renovation. The ceiling of the rooms in this venue is open on the top and thereโs no communication device to receive hints. So throughout the gameplay, we can hear people chatting outside and we have to shout in order to receive a response to our hint request. ๐น TAKE A SHOT? This location has a lot of space but for some reason, they are unable to soundproof the rooms. This is definitely going to be an issue as we didnโt feel that immersion of being transported to a story world and out of reality. The hint system issue could also be easily resolved by giving players a walkie-talkie. Although there were a lot of puzzles in this room, a lot of them were really generic. We did enjoy the storyline so if the set design and puzzles could be revamped, there could be future potential in Whodunit 2.0. The secret is in their recipes. You and your friends decide to sneak into the bar to steal the recipe while the owner is on a short break. Hopefully, luck is on your side today. Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐ฏ HIT THE BULLSEYE Thereโs lots of decor in the space making it feel like a real bar. You can explore the bar counter, check out lots of various brands of beers that are local to the area and thereโs even a stage if you want to perform a song or two. A few hidden compartments in the game added to the secrecy element of the storyline. We always enjoy a story concept thatโs unique and can only be played at this local location. ๐งฉ MISSED THE MARK This room has too many red herrings that didnโt relate to the game itself. Some props are there purely for advertising purposes. The ceiling of the rooms in this venue is open on the top and thereโs no communication device to receive hints. So throughout the gameplay, we can hear people chatting outside and we have to shout in order to receive a response to our hint request. Some color locks didnโt have relevance to color and there are two locks that we are supposed to use three props to figure out. There are no pointers as to which are supposed to be used. There are a lot of โtrial and errorโ situations presented in this game. I actually really enjoy Math in an escape room, but this room had information that we had to assume and no clarity as to why we would do certain calculations. Because there were a lot of numbers we could use to come up with a solution, clear directions were necessary. The game master felt lost as well. He couldn't explain how to get to the solution after the game. The final puzzle was probably the weakest one of the entire game. We think the creator was going for a โdeductionโ route but ended up becoming pure frustration for the players. ๐น TAKE A SHOT? This is a very basic Gen 1 room that had no tech at all. We usually donโt mind that as long as the puzzle and storyline make sense. In this case, we had many obstacles stopping our game flow and in the end, we were eager to ESCAPE. With a concept like this, the creator could have dug deep into the history of the bowery and built puzzles in relevance to that versus what felt like piecing random facts altogether. The puzzles had no reading or words required to solve so there were no language restrictions to play this game. The room was set up to feel like a starship with the dรฉcor, the high-quality props used everywhere and navigating the corridors. The final puzzle was fun to experience. We only caught on to the details at the end once we debriefed with the GM. It would have been more fun to discover and learn more of the story throughout the game. ๐น TAKE A SHOT? "The Abduction" had a spaceship and alien themed set that was fun to navigate though. Though not intentionally scary, they had some minor surprises to be found. The puzzle flow was easy to follow and most of the puzzles encouraged teamwork. The highlight was the finale and the multiple endings really made for an exciting finish. We played with 5 of us and found that to be an optimal amount that allowed everyone to be involved and experience everything. Any fans of fun set designs and alien themes would enjoy this room.
