There was so much detail in the décor displayed throughout the room. From spell books to potions to skeletons, we felt like customers browsing an apothecary shop! There was plenty of space to spread out and search around. This game wasn't linear so a large team can easily divide and conquer. All the puzzles pertained to the storyline and allowed us to continue without any derailment from the experience. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK As we progressed throughout the game, we anticipated a big "wow" ending finale but didn't feel we got that with this game. Since this is a magical themed game, we thought there would be a rewarding finish for saving the Wizard. Certain parts of the props in the latter part of the game needed some updating. It didn't feel like the same quality as the previous room. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? If you are a "Harry Potter" or "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" fan, you'll love this game. There's something about "The Wizard's Apprentice" that transports to a magical world of spells and mystery. Something feels off in the Old West and it's up to you to figure it out and giddy up before time runs out! Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The main room is quite spacious and actually felt like a saloon back in the 1800's. The entrance to the saloon opens up with sliding doors as you make your way to the bar. The set design really transported us to the wild west! The puzzle designs were well implemented and created an organic flow to the game. There were some unique challenges in there that we haven't seen before. The non-linear puzzle design made it quite fun for us to work individually and as a team There's a really cool mechanism in the room that surprised us as we didn't anticipated from the theme of the room 🧩 MISSED THE MARK It would be quite difficult to play this game as a team of two. The game master had to come in to help us as an extra hand for one of the puzzles at the end. It's probably best to specify that as the beginning of the game so the team would come with more than two players or will be anticipating some help with this puzzle. The latter part of the set design didn't have the same quality of finish as the beginning. It didn't feel like it was part of the same storyline. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? "The Wild West" has a movie set ambience to it which always elevates the whole escape room experience. If you're looking for an 1800's saloon theme with an unexpected twist at the end, you'll want to try this room. If you are looking to do a birthday party, they're able to host it inside the room so people who don't want to solve puzzles can be observers and cheerleaders for the puzzler solvers! You must make your way into the comic shop and figure out a way to enter inside the comic book world itself! Once inside, you will become a superhero and by using your "powers", you might just save the world!! Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE One place that I used to love hanging out as a kid (as I"m sure many others as well), was the comic shop! The set design in this room truly brought me back! We already knew the owner of Amazing Escape Room is an avid collector of board games, comic books, and toys, so it only made sense to create a room w/ all of these memorabilia! Without giving away any spoilers, there's so much more than meets the eye... With a room like "Comic Shop", there's a lot of storylines that Amazing Escape Room could've created. I"m glad they opted for a role playing version where the player gets to actually teleport into the comic book itself! Let's talk puzzles! I love the design of certain puzzles (especially in the latter part of the room) where it felt like we're in control of the action and ultimately "changing" the course of the storyline to reach that final victory. Love the ending reveal, very EPIC. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK A few tweaks were needed with some of the props as it's quite sensitive and did not trigger for our team even when placed at the right positions. The GM should be more alert on letting us know so we don't waste time on continuous attempts. One of the puzzles confused us due to the wording. It's an easy fix to get that corrected and we've send our feedback to the company so hopefully you won't encounter this issue when you play the room. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Need an excuse to act like a big kid again and relive your comic book collecting days? This room definitely brought out the inner fanboy in me! I spend half of the time just looking through the posters. On top of that, you actually get to immerse yourself INTO the comic book as a superhero to stop the villain! If you're a fan of superheroes/ supervillains or just looking for an epic adventure, "Comic Book" is a must-do! Nobody's luck can be that consistent! Suspicions begin to rise and you suspect that Johnny has been hustling everyone. The only way to find proof is to search around his apartment and find the deck of cards that he plays with. Better make it quick before Johnny returns and walks away with all of your money again! Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Since "Escape The Apartment" takes place inside of an infamous card shark's home, the set design was cleverly created to provide that type of atmosphere. It reminded me of a stash house/ in-and-out type of home with minimal furniture. Before walking into the room, you're standing in front of an apartment door with a number on it. We always love it when the set design starts before entering the game! The storyline was unique and had a stealthy mission to it - break in and search someone's house for their deck of cards to exploit their hustle. The puzzles all correlated with the story and were creatively implemented into the items around the room. We literally felt like we were rummaging through his personal belongings inside his home to find the evidence that we needed. There was a variety of challenges that allowed us each to divide and conquer. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One thing that disrupts the game flow is when broken props or puzzles that previously needed to be solved are still visible to the player. This could be taken as a red herring and definitely ruins the experience. We highly recommend to the owners that anything that is not being used but is questionable to the player, to be completely removed from the room or make sure that it's well hidden. We discovered that a certain prop had to be used twice for two separate puzzles. It's a bit out of the norm since we thought we've used that prop already so that did get as stumped for a bit Certain items in the room need updating. This is their oldest room. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Since "Escape The Apartment" is Amazing Escape Room's first room at their Freehold location, it definitely has a more traditional experience to it. It's great for beginners who want to get an idea of what to expect from their other rooms. You can certainly use this room as a warm up and before giving their other more updated rooms a try. This particular location (Montclair) does not have an elevator available. You will have to climb one flight up. The lobby had some cool props and posters and ample seats for waiting. The parking is quite tricky, so if you are from out of town it's best to go at night time. The design of the room feels pretty immersive as you do actually feel like you are in a forest and a cabin. They really make you work for hints. After the 3 are used up, you will have to sing and dance until the game masters grant you your hints. The puzzles are mostly on the tech side vs. the classic locks, but it did feel a bit delayed in some incidences. We didn't have enough time to finish the room, mostly because we wasted too much time in the beginning. It would also help if one of the players likes reading as we thought their "runbook" was a bit too wordy. I would suggest if you are stuck in the beginning, use a hint right away as there's a lot more to do later on. They encourage you to return for a second attempt and only explain up to where you finished. This time we decided to tackle the "Case Closed" room which was a huge disappointment in comparison to the first room that we attempted - "The Forest". This was also the hardest room according to their ratings. e had a group of four and was joined by another group of six. There was quite a lot of people for this room as half of them pretty much stood around doing nothing. This might have also impacted our experience with the room as the other group had people who weren't really enthusiastic about solving puzzles. We felt as if this room didn't really have a storyline at all and the room was fairly simple. Although there was some tech incorporated, most of the puzzles felt like it was just randomly situated. Once again, we had to do a song and dance in order to receive more than the 3 clues we were given to start. Eventually, we got out but did not feel satisfied at all with the ending. Again, there is no elevator at this location (Montclair). Our next room here was recommended by the staff and it’s their hardest room at this location called “Night at the Museum”. The story line is that we are thieves sent on a mission to steal the Star Diamond Broach inside the Art Museum of Cherry Hill. We only have 60 minutes until the security system comes back on and the security guards will be sure to capture us then. This room started in a dim lit setting since we are sneaking into the museum.  At times, it was hard to read some of the clues due to that. Perhaps a few flashlights at the beginning could be helpful. There was a starting puzzle that was cleverly made. We appreciate the visual aspect of the puzzles since it is art related. There was one that we just couldn’t visualize for a long time and finally asked for a clue. The game master’s hints did not help much and once again clues took a very long time to get to us. There were times we literally just stood there waiving our hands at the camera for 5 minutes straight. This definitely added to our frustration given the circumstances. The room’s props and finishes felt a bit worn since it is one of their older rooms. There are some pieces we felt could use some maintenance or updating. As we proceeded with the game, we realized that it is very difficult with two people as there are not only puzzles, but there was a good amount of searching involved. There was also a “physical” puzzle that was present which added time to solve but we didn’t feel strongly about it being linked with the story line. We did not escape at the end with two people and the rating above for difficulty level is based on two person. Overall, we had fun in the room as it was definitely tough, and we love to be challenged but it would have been more enjoyable if there wasn't a delay in the hint system. In our opinion, in a hard room, every second feels like hours when you don’t receive that clue to move on as you know there’s a lot more that you need to do after. We hope this issue gets resolved soon. If you are up for a challenging room, definitely give “Night at the Museum” a try! Amazing Escape Room has different escape-themed rooms at different locations. They also have a sister company called “Bury the Hatchet” which is an axe throwing company which also has many locations. Today, we visited their Cherry Hill location. There’s plenty of parking outside this complex. We’ve visited their Montclair & Philadelphia locations before and comparing to those, this one is on a much larger scale. The lobby is very spacious with plenty of seats for guests to wait around. They recently added a life size Deadpool figurine so make sure you get your camera ready! We are very excited to try their brand new “Top Secret Mission” room as we will be the very FIRST players to enter this new room. We really appreciate the team (especially Issabella R., General Manager of the location) that worked super hard to get this room ready for us to review. We were debriefed by our game master that Top Secret documents are being leaked and we must investigate and find out who the mole is and the method that he’s using to leak these secret documents out to his contact in the outside world. As we entered, we felt transported to a military base and since the other operatives were out training, we started to search their belongings in hopes to find clues to help us discover the mole. The set design and lighting was all very on point. We thought theme music was extremely loud but wasn’t sure if that was intentional or not, but it might help if they could lower it especially if there’s a large group of players playing. Mainly because they might have to converse back and forth and it’s quite hard to hear. In the first area, we felt the puzzles were more linear so we had to work together on most of them. With just the two of us, it was a bit challenging as it is a spacious room (please note our rating for difficulty above is based on 2 ppl). Later, however, we had to divide and conquer. We're not sure if its because of a technical problem in their game master’s control room that day or not, but the clue giving time frame was quite long at this location. This made us a bit frustrated especially when this is a new room and we thought perhaps it was still in a beta testing phase for some puzzles. So asking for hints and receiving it quickly would have created a smoother game flow. We did not end up escaping with just the two of us. The game master had to come in a few times to assist with a few puzzles as some didn’t work right away but we understand since it’s still considered in beta test phase. There is definitely a lot to do in this room and you shouldn't waste any time after you enter. Even though the props used were inline with the story line, the puzzles felt a bit weak and there were a few we still don't understand how they operated and why the solution is what it is. Hopefully they’ll be able to debug the hint system and let clues get to the players faster as this is definitely a very immersive room and by making the gameplay smoother, we think the players could have a lot of fun working together to stop the mole and his evil scheme! And as for us, on to the next challenge – “Night at the Museum”. The lobby is quite spacious and they actually have a set up of a puzzles & corks area right there which could be a fun event if you like to sip on some wine while solving some basic puzzles. This escape room puzzle is the first of its kind that we've attempted and also involves some physical challenges. We were prepared with sneakers and comfortable attire which I think is extremely necessary in this room. You'll definitely feel like you had a workout after this room. Children would have a blast in this room as the design and the sound system is truly amazing. Because you are escaping a tornado, some things were difficult to hear when we were inside the barn. Maybe the volume could've been adjusted a bit. The intensity of the tornado increases as your time elapses. The set was incredible and extremely detailed. With just the two of us, we completed the puzzle with 15 minutes to spare. We enjoyed their "F5" room so much yesterday, that we decided to book their "Witch Hunt" room today. The "Witch Hunt" room is a more traditional escape room setting in comparison to the "F5" room which was more of a physical challenge. The room design was definitely immersive. We felt like we were bought back to the early Modern Period era where there was no electricity and only candles for light making our experience naturally dim throughout. There's definitely a bit of an eerie feeling to this room, so make sure you decide accordingly. As our readers know, one of us is a bit of a "scaredy-cat", but if was definitely manageable. There were a few things that we knew would be manually triggered after we did something, but it felt a bit delayed. We're not sure if that was due to a technical glitch or not, but if resolved, it would make the story flow much better. We recommend trying both of their rooms so that you can compare two completely different kind of escape experiences. Today, we visit Trap Door Escape Room's very first location in Red Bank, New Jersey. This location has a small parking lot in front which can hold up to 7-8 cars at a time. We were fortunate enough to sit down and interview with two of the owners to learn more about the company. The owners & developers of Trap Door have been developing escape games for the past 6 years. Initially, their primary focus was Live Immersive Entertainment where they created experiences for viewers to interact with puzzles and characters from their devices. This is a service that they have incorporated into their escape rooms as well called "Escape Stream". The room that we did today - ""Bogeyman" is one of their scarier ones. It's actually classified into three options of scare modes - "No Fear", "Mild Fear", and "Full Fear". We opted for the "No Fear" option which has no live actors, BUT definitely has a few jump scares and an eerie setting throughout. There were many spots in the room you felt like a pair of eyes are watching you or your legs may be grabbed at any given time. Before entering, you also have an option to start in the little boy's room or his older teenage sister's room first and we chose the little boy's room. We didn't felt like there was any right or wrong choice there just a different version of play which was unique to this escape room theme. The room design was spectacular and clearly emulated a child's nightmare brought to life. The puzzles were not as challenging for expert players but we the scary atmosphere can definitely add to the difficulty level to think. If you are looking more for tons of puzzles to solve, then this room might not be right for you. Trap Door never disappoints when it comes to providing an immersive experience! The puzzle designs were cleverly developed to go along with the storyline. It seems a climate research team went missing! Are you and your search party ready to make the climb or will you meet your demise? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The entire experience was definitely immersive from beginning to end. We always love it when the escape room experience starts from the moment you enter the game! In "Everest", you are not stepping foot inside a room... you're entering a TENT! Immediately we were transported to a base camp on the mountain! It didn't stop there, this was just the beginning! We then continued our expedition climbing up a ladder in order to reach higher ground which led us into a snow cave. The set design truly relocated us and gave us a glimpse of what the trek would look AND feel like! The storyline was a typical rescue mission on one of the most challenging mountain climb expeditions but we did like the incorporation of the abominable snowman. The sound effect and usage of visual aids in the latter part of the game added some thrills to the experience. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There were a couple of puzzles in there that required some logic leaps. We spent a good amount of time trying to figure out a password that we ended up questioning the logic behind it. Searching was a big part of the latter part of the game. If you think you don't have enough information, you better look around once more. We were surprised that Trap Door didn't deliver on the change of climate. After playing "F5 2.0" and getting the full effect of the wind and rain effects, the hot temperature in the room took away the Everest feel. I would have been cool if the room above would be cooler than the start of the game. There's not a ton of puzzles in this game. It's more of an experience of the story itself. You might be disappointed if you are looking for a puzzle concentrated room. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This game is not meant for everyone due to the physical challenges (ladder and small entry space to one of the rooms). You might want to call in first to make sure all your teammates are able to CLIMB Everest as there's no other ways around that section of the game. Trap Door Escape Room always delivers on the set design and unique storyline. If they could improve on the logic aspect of the puzzles and integrate them better with the game itself, it would definitely up the level of their experiences. Escape The Puzzle owns the entire house. The house has 3 floors with a fully functional basement for parties. There's even a garage for storage and a good amount of parking in the back. The main builder and puzzle creator behind all the rooms is the wife this time (go female power!) although without our male owner's "special care" on the place, the bathrooms would not have looked spanking clean. The first room we tackled was the "Swamp" and it normally can hold up to 10 people. We were definitely in it for a challenge with two people as this room is not linear at all. You can definitely have many people working on different things at once. Besides the puzzle aspect, the builder was also very into hiding things well . With all that said, we needed about 5 minutes more to solve that last puzzle to get out of the room. There were a few puzzles in there that we thought were cleverly built without the use of electronic device but still very fun to figure out. There were a few things in the puzzle that we thought if we didn't get a hint we wouldn't have known to go there for that so if there were some story line that can point to it other than the hint system we feel that it would create a better flow. Overall, we were very impressed by the immersive room design and how much little details the owners put into the room. They are currently building a new room and we look forward to going back there to try the others in the near future! The next room that we tried to escape from is "The Tower". The game master added in an interesting intro that set the mood prior to entering the game. He may also "help" you all the way till the end if you stick to the story line. We actually enjoyed this room a bit more as it's normally meant for 6 people so it was more manageable but the story line and puzzles also flowed better. The room decor was once again very immersive. You felt like you were transported to an old castle in the medieval days. There was a bit of red herring on why one of the puzzle pieces appeared earlier on and had no use which delayed us a bit and also a little incident with one of the pieces of the puzzle that didn't come out where it was suppose to but we understand the build of these puzzles are not easy and things do happen at times. This was quickly fixed and we were able to continue with our game. We did get out with only a few seconds to spare as the last puzzle definitely needed some quick thinking and quick hands. Overall it was a very solid room and we enjoyed it very much. We can't wait to try their other rooms in the near future! This is the only other escape room we tried in a mall other than 5 wits which isn't really a traditional escape room. We felt very cheerful entering this location as the paint colors were all very vibrant. This location definitely attracts younger aged players although when we tackled the puzzles, it was not as easy as we thought it would be. The owner has two talented daughters that helps him with the drawing and designing of the rooms. They currently have three 60 minute rooms ( all games can be set up in family friendly mode which is easier for younger kids) and three 15 minute ones. "Apartment Arrr"'s final goal is to find the pirates treasure and they stock to the story line. This room is not a high tech escape room but we felt that we still enjoyed their puzzle design and how clear and correlated they were. The only suggestion we have would be for some of the puzzles we had to do trial and error on which codes would go first after figuring out the right one or which direction to read the code from, so if there were some clear directions it could make the game flow a bit more clear. According to the owner we were the second group to get out with 2 people so we are quite proud of that. We hope more people can visit them and give them support and try out their games as the mall doesn't get much foot traffic so it's quite sad that people overlook this place. It's a great place to have a birthday party. And if you really can't make it to their place, they can come to you as well! They have "Rooms on the Road" where they take some of their 15 minute rooms and come to your location and set it up for game play!
