Video above is property of Hulu 🆃🅷🅴 🅶🅰🅼🅴 🅿🅻🅰🆈 Signing into the Zoom link provided during booking, we were greeted by our gracious host and GM. They set us up on their custom Escape Game platform, which would grant us access to an inventory and list of locks as we discover new things through the game as well as an “explore” tab that will allow us a 360 view of the rooms. We also got the opportunity to download some fun backgrounds that we could use during the game. Once it was confirmed we all could view everything, we were given our introduction video and were on our way. If you haven't experienced remote escape games before, here's how this one operated. We would see what our GM was seeing and ask them to perform tasks such as checking under tables, opening boxes, or attempting lock combinations. Our GM was very good at taking our requests and performing them. She was also very cryptic in giving us hints and nudges along the way if it seemed like we were struggling so not to ruin our eureka moments. Along the way, as we discover new things, they were added into our inventory which was a helpful reminder of what we had found so far. One advantageous thing was that with the 360 view of the room and the inventory, we were all able to be working on something and stay engaged whether it be talking to the GM and asking her to do things or review the inventory and see if you could solve the items. There were a few puzzles that would have been better experienced in person so if you are able to make it to the game in person, we hope you enjoy those ones. The game is an overlay of Escape Game’s The Heist room. If you have played The Heist before, you may recognize key reveals in the game, but the puzzles were different enough that it felt like a completely different room. Though we did not use the hint system, it was easy to spot. On the top, there is a question mark that can be clicked for pre-made hints, but our host and GM told us that they were there to give us some hints as well if we needed. You do not need to have seen the show to enjoy the game, but you will definitely enjoy many of the references sprinkled throughout the game if you have (Gut milk anyone?). The intro and outro videos set the game up to immerse us in the experience. The puzzles were the right amount of difficulty that it made us think but not to the point of getting frustrated. Anyone who is a fan of the show or mystery enthusiasts would get a kick out of this. Though there is not much murder in this particular game, this is a game that must be checked out. You arrive in Brobdingnag, to the house of one of the giant islanders in search of him, only to find yourselves trapped! Danger now looms; in an hour the giant house cat will return home to hunt mice. You are now exactly the size of Murrmurr's favorite food. High time to leave! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The most striking thing about the room was the scale to which it was built. Everything is oversized and well made; we were made to feel so small. The high ceilings and huge furniture which you get to climb all over make this a really immersive experience. In addition to the elements on show, there are also plenty of hidden passageways for you to explore. The website wasn’t joking when it says there is climbing and crawling involved; I don’t think I’ve ever sweated so much in an escape room before! But for us, this was all part of the fun and novelty of the game. Although the puzzles might not have the greatest variety, they mostly involve finding and placing objects in a specific way, they do come with some depth. To complete several of the challenges you will need information from multiple places or to finish different tasks that will combine to provide the tools to finish something else. We liked this aspect of the game play and how much it encourages you to explore and be mobile throughout. The physical way the game ends was unexpected, in a good way, and not something you typically find in most games (no spoilers). 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Overall, this is a fantastic, sweat fueled adventure. Our only small nitpicks would be at some of the plot points; we don’t find out what happened to Gulliver (our only purpose of being there), nor are we sure why there is a fish tank hidden in a wall. If Gulliver had perished in the house, perhaps we could have found his bones or clothes stashed away somewhere? Aside from those small points, the game is highly recommendable. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Although this is an adrenaline-fueled adventure, you don’t need to be super fit to play and can even skip most of the physical elements should you wish. My wife was pregnant at the time of playing so she restrained herself from doing any of the crawling through dark passageways and concentrated on other puzzles which she could do comfortably. We definitely recommend the game to players of all ages and experience levels and appreciate that there are two modes to play the game in, depending on said age and level of experience. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Parking is not available on site. The Black King has seized power over Wonderland and is threatening to let the Jabberwock out. The task is not easy: you have to save the White Queen and Wonderland. So don't delay - you have a little more than an hour to return peace and order to the inhabitants of this magical world! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE I’ll start off by saying this is my favorite Alice themed game I have ever played and worthy of being recommended on a global scale. The level of detail in the set design, the abundance of props and life-sized characters, and the overall appearance is top notch. There is so much to interact with in this bright and magical world that you can’t help but be immersed. Together with the whimsically decorated land is an expert lesson in storytelling. Throughout the game there are small updates and developments to the story, which are provided audibly by the many characters surrounding you. You can’t help but feel the characters are alive and that you are truly there with them in Wonderland. Although the game starts and end in a linear way, the middle is, for the most part, running nonlinearly. Our team of three often separated into two groups to overcome different tasks, which were all logical and more importantly fun to complete. You could argue that they don’t have a whole lot to do with the progression of the story, but you can’t deny the enjoyment levels when completing them. Our favorite puzzles were those which carried depth and layers to their completion, most notably the puzzle involving the tea cups. This was not only cooperative but it tested our sense of smell, deduction, and eye for detail. The game’s design is also very dynamic and has you moving around the space frequently, everything in the room seems relevant to one puzzle or another, you just don’t know when or how. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There wasn’t anything we didn’t like about the room; however, we were disappointed that there was no one to greet us upon arrival and no formal reception desk. We waited for over 15 minutes before we even saw a member of staff. I don’t know if this is usual or if we just caught them at a bad moment, but it did feel a little odd standing around inside for so long. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? For anyone looking for a magical way to spend an hour, this is it. The game offers a lot of interaction with the elements, fun and engaging puzzles, and a story with purpose. The room is not overly large so teams of 4 or 5 should be aware there are going to be tight moments. The severed arms were found in the freezer, the legs on the roof, but her torso was nowhere to be seen. The animals of the forest were blamed for her death, since the police could never find any evidence to suggest otherwise. You now decided to sneak into the old abandoned house to see if the rumors of ghostly spirits haunting the place are true. Be careful, you might not like what you find. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The room is deceptively larger than we had expected and provides such a contrast to the stark plain white walls that surround it from the outside. Inside, is a rustic cabin that has been masterfully constructed and contains many authentic props and pieces of furniture. Surrounding the cabin is a short dimly lit garden which a menacing moon staring down on us. The game has some impressive special effects that may appear subtle or understated, but actually achieve a lot to push the level of immersion further (sorry no spoilers). We actually start the game in two teams, one inside the cabin and one outside. The first goal is for those on the outside to find a way in; and it might not be the way you initially expect! This style of beginning provided us with a couple of cooperative challenges, and although the following puzzles could be more or less solved solo, we did find we consistently collaborated in them. The level of scariness is well balanced. For us, having played many horror-themed rooms, there was nothing too scary inside, however we still appreciated the dark undertones and disturbing atmosphere. For those newer to the genre, I am sure this experience will provide lots of jumpy and scary moments, which will hopefully, tempt them to play more in the future. Let’s say this is a ‘welcoming’ game to the horror genre! 🧩 MISSED THE MARK For a non-actor, 60-minute horror game of this size, it is certainly one of the best we have played to date. Although we didn’t find any misses in the game itself, the outside of the room could have been better decorated… well it’s not decorated at all, the tall walls are just plain white. Painting the exterior and extending the garden beyond the door could be things to push the immersion further and help set the mood for what lies inside. The game master’s scripted introduction was also a bit flat when it comes to setting the mood, an actor led video would definitely be an upgrade. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? I think this game is suitable and recommendable to experienced and new players alike, whether you’ve played horror before or not. You don’t need to worry about actors jumping out at you, but the special effects are an enhancing feature. The space can be quite tight at times, so I certainly wouldn’t recommend playing with five. To save the world you have to infiltrate the enemy’s control center, destroy the satellite, and get out. This treacherous curly-haired villain might be (or will become) familiar to you as he’s the resident clueQuest baddie and is featured in all their escape rooms and many of their excellent play-at-home games. You’ve got 60 minutes to thwart his plan for world domination! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The game carries through the high energy graphics that meet you in the lobby when you first arrive at clueQuest. Each area of the game is set off with bold wall graphics. The strong visual style sets a great tone and demonstrates the intentionality of the clueQuest experienced designers. There were few extraneous elements. Everything we encountered was utilized in the puzzles—making it a logical and streamlined game. Yet, the spaces were rich with plenty of details to notice so that you’ll know what you’ll need to return to later in the game. A couple of the puzzles, including our favorite puzzle, cleverly required collaboration between team members to accomplish. They took advantage of the opportunity to infuse a personality into the computer system you interface with to destroy the satellite, adding to the fun of the game. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There is a nice variety of puzzles, but some do rely on distinguishing subtle visual differences in symbols and many utilize locks and keys. We didn’t receive a copy of our victory photo after the game (blame it on spam filters, international numbers, who knows), but the staff has been very responsive in helping us track it down. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? "Operation Blacksheep" is a classic escape room that will deliver for newbies and enthusiasts alike. It’s the perfect precursor to clueQuest’s more challenging rooms (with two players we escaped with a comfortable margin and took no hints). It has clearly benefited from refinement and honing to create smooth, satisfying game play that makes it accessible to anyone. Our game master mentioned this is the room they played with other applicants to get their job at clueQuest. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO There is no designated parking available. The four agents stationed at this facility have gone missing. One of them was a double-agent working for the Professor. Not only did he disappear the other 3, but he has planted a bomb rigged to explode 60 minutes after alarms detect someone has entered. You and your team must enter the facility, determine the identity of the traitor, and disable the bomb before it’s too late! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE All of clueQuest’s games (both in-person and tabletop) take place in the same universe, and it’s fabulous to get little bits of the story with known characters coming out through the different games. Mouse spies? Sheep villains? Why not?! This unique world gives a whimsical twist to a classic spy theme. While not one of the most elaborate sets out there, clueQuest manages to create a very cool, secret-hideout vibe in keeping with their unique, cartoon-y aesthetic. There’s a mixture of standard office fare and high-tech gadgetry that’s fun and tactile to play with (evidently much of this was a recent upgrade during pandemic times, as this is their oldest room). There are a variety of puzzles to unravel, including some nice cooperative moments, which are often my fave. It is largely non-linear, so there’s plenty for your team to work on, even if they prefer to divide and conquer. I can’t say it was my finest puzzling hour, as we missed a few things that were fairly obvious. Have your eagle eyes ready, as there is some serious searching and observation to be done! 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There are a few notable red herrings…so just be aware that not everything may be used! While the walkie talkies worked ok to communicate with our lovely GM, something a bit snazzier or in line with the room aesthetic would bring things up a notch. We definitely did need a few hints, though a couple others were perhaps given a bit sooner than we would have preferred. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? " Plan 52 " is a light-hearted, classic escape room that has held up well for its age and benefitted from a recent facelift. It’s rated as one of the easier ones at clueQuest and is a nice choice for newbies, families, or smaller groups. They have multiple copies (as with all of their games), so it’s also great for large groups (or corporate team-building), allowing people to split up but still play the same game! We recommend starting with this one, then going on to play some of their others. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO There are bathrooms available and a lobby with seating, water, and their Print + Cut + Escape games for sale. Satellite images reveal an entrance to Furler's icy tunnel. Your mission is to explore the ice shaft, find the lost ships, uncover the crew's fate, and escape! Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE From the moment we stepped into this room, the "wow" effect hit us full force! The special effects were so immersive (you could actually feel the COLD!) that we completely forgot we were still in Texas, inside an escape room. The set design was absolutely stunning from start to finish, perfectly aligning with the storyline. We felt like we were being transported from one incredible space to another at every turn! The ending was an exhilarating cliffhanger! We felt like genuine adventure explorers, and that triumphant moment at the end was like uncovering a treasure lost for centuries. The physical puzzles staged throughout the game made us feel like we were in real-life scenarios. We had a blast solving them. The puzzles weren't overly difficult, but the best part was how everything made sense. The puzzles, combined with the storyline, painted a complete picture of the thrilling adventure we were on. The lights, sounds, and hidden reveals were flawlessly paired with each scene. It felt like experiencing chapters of an epic movie! 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Nothing to mention here because we loved every moment of the adventure from beginning to end! 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? We are absolutely thrilled to have ended our Texas escape room tour with this incredible game! It was a true hidden gem, and we couldn't be happier to have stumbled upon it. Our only prior knowledge of Shackleton and his crew came from an "At home puzzle game" called Shackleton Series by Mobile Escape. Experiencing it brought to life by Locktopia was nothing short of amazing. If you're eager for an immersive escape room adventure, make sure to add this to your must-visit list when you're in Houston, Texas next time! Proceed with urgency. Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Initially, there was an interesting method to "infiltrate" the headquarters. We appreciated the "trickiness" of the early puzzles, as solving them was quite satisfying. Even though a particular device had to be used several times in the game, it fit well with the room's theme. As spies, it felt essential to be able to crack codes and input them for "rewards". The puzzles and clues in this game were definitely linked to wartime. We were pleased to see such a variety of decoding strategies in a single game. Unfortunately, one of the devices was broken by the group before us, so we couldn't experience its functionality. We were thrilled to receive a complete set of gear, including disposable undergarments, socks, shoes, pants, and shirts. And guess what? We even got to choose between two options! The performer, a professional dancer, emerged through a mystical fog and magically appeared before us. Her dance was utterly mesmerizing! We were then informed that she was the goddess who had vanished, and we caught a glimpse of the pearl we needed to find. Then, another NPC guided us into an ancient village, leading us into a mysterious house that could be the entrance to the tomb. This is where our "WOW"s began, and they just kept coming, all the way to the end! The set design was beyond anything we've ever seen in other escape rooms. These were scenes straight out of a movie! From eerie graves to dragon caves, teetering on the edge of a cliff, crossing chains over water, and even being fully submerged, I was absolutely stunned by the effort that went into creating this escape experience! Some props we used in this room would probably be impossible elsewhere (yes, we had real fire!) because safety wasn't a concern, but that made the experience feel more real than ever! The NPCs were fantastic, knowing just when and where to appear with the perfect amount of scare to keep us on the edge of our seats the entire time! There were more physical puzzles than logical ones, but they perfectly fit the theme of ancient grave diggers, who would have faced all these challenges to find the treasure at the end. It was exhilarating! 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Despite being unable to assist us with a lost key in the water, which led us to bypass the final puzzle, we had an impeccable experience. There was a puzzle we particularly liked that involved interaction with the GM, which was both entertaining and appropriate for the situation. The props effectively highlighted the gore elements, and the intensity increased as we got closer to solving the mystery. The sound effects and lighting significantly enhanced the immersion. We don't want to spoil anything, but the ending was applause-worthy. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One of the deduction puzzles were a bit confusing on the wording. This game is actually based on a real serial killer back in the day, a chilling fact that adds a layer of authenticity and dread to the entire experience. The developers have meticulously crafted the game to reflect the grim atmosphere of the time, allowing players to immerse themselves in a world where danger lurks around every corner. There were many jump scare moments that caught us off guard, along with a pervasive eeriness felt throughout the game, creating a sense of unease that lingered long after we put down the controller. From the very first moment we stepped our foot onto the creaking front porch of the cabin, we knew we were in trouble; the air was thick with tension, and the shadows seemed to whisper secrets of the past. Once we entered the cabin, the door slammed shut behind us with a deafening thud, sealing our fate. There was no way out except to solve the killer's twisted puzzles, each more sinister than the last, in order to escape alive. We appreciated how the game designer allowed players to divide and conquer, as the second room is quite spacious, enabling everyone to contribute to the experience in various ways. Despite the technology in this room being mostly Gen-1, there were plenty of traditional puzzles (especially a multi-step one) that were satisfying to solve. The flow improved significantly in the latter part of the game. We were able to clearly understand the goal, which ultimately brought together all the pieces we needed to escape with the treasure. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Without a hint or some indication, a certain concealed spot would be challenging to locate. One puzzle assumed players would understand specific terms that might not be familiar to everyone. We were unsure of their meaning, which prevented us from interpreting the necessary clues to enter the correct solution. One prop seemed like it should be hung based on its design. We recommend altering its appearance so players don't fixate on what they believe they should be looking for. The final mechanism needs adjustment to reduce its sensitivity, as sometimes it doesn't trigger the finale even when players enter the correct solution. (Update 3/12/25 - The owner has made adjustments to this and appeared to have resolved the issue.) 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? The experience felt like it was broken down to various acts in a show, with each chapter more exciting than the previous. The secrecy of " Servants of Sleight " is what pulls you in every step of the way as you prove yourself worthy enough to be initiated. The set design was movie set quality. The ambience lighting, graffiti writing on the wall, and various authentic props in the room perfectly recreated a shady alleyway vibe. And then out of no there, a magic shop! That's where the magic begins...Only if you're able to get in. There was a wide variety of challenges we had to face - physically, visually, creatively, and intellectually! I wish I can tell you more but we've sworn into secrecy already. We love it when the room "incorporates" the player into the game. There were many moments in this game that we got to become characters in the story. One of the most memorable moments of an escape room is the ending. From the beginning, we were filling our sundaes with layers of ice cream and The Exit Games FL concluded the game with a cherry on top! There's "wow" endings and then, there's "pow" endings! This finale knocked it right out of the park!! 🧩 MISSED THE MARK My biggest gripe with "Servants of Sleight" is that it was too short! It needs to be longer than 90 minutes or better yet... never-ending!! 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Since this game was extremely story-driven and magician-themed, we expected nothing less than a full out immersive experience and that's exactly what we got! It felt like on the set of "Sleep No More" but filled with puzzles. It's rare that we come across escape rooms that can have you emotionally invested into the experience and " Servants of Sleight " made us feel happy, surprised, nervous, jumpy and honored all at the same time. In 2020, we introduced a new segment to our BULLSEYE AWARDS called the "Player's Choice Awards" and after thousands of votes came in and said " Servants of Sleight " was the " Best In-Person Escape Room " in the world, we had to check them out. And I'm happy to report that they were 100% correct on this one! The GM's introduction was excellent, drawing us into the game even before it officially began. From the start, the puzzles provided a satisfying and unconventional challenge. The hidden elements throughout the game were all "Aha" moments that we savored even after the game. Despite the abundance of decor, it wasn’t overwhelming; everything felt integral to the game, often necessary for solving puzzles. Each puzzle was meticulously designed to match the theme. I loved the moments when we had to remind ourselves "this is just a game" due to the built up in intensity. This game truly kept us on edge, with only seconds to spare, we completed this 90-minute experience. While we can't share too much here, trust me when I say we didn’t want to escape at the end and hoped the game would just continue forever. Who knows? We were completely immersed, hearing only the intended jump scares and music from the game itself. The set design was outstanding. The majority of the game took place in darkness, with only our flashlights for illumination. Despite the dim lighting, the eerie office, unsettling long corridor, and classroom were strikingly reminiscent of a real-life school. There were instances where I startled myself merely by moving around. The narrative was conveyed through the game's characters, serving as a clever method to guide us with subtle clues on what to do next. There were several interactions that gave the impression of spirits controlling our devices, sending chills down our spines. We encountered a device that revealed a solution in a manner we had not previously experienced in other escape rooms. It was always exciting to discover something new after playing numerous games. The special effect at the conclusion provided us with a truly satisfying horror experience. We left with a "smile" on our faces. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The input device was used multiple times. The instructions could be clearer regarding what to input, as we initially wasted a hint on this issue. Communicating with the GM via an iPad diminished the immersion for us as typing took a long time from both ends. Direct communication through headphones, allowing them to assist us from the outside world, would enhance the experience significantly. Since most items are securely fastened by the creator, we were surprised by a few misleading ones, which seemed unnecessary. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? From the moment we stepped into the spine-chilling corridor of the elementary school, we were immersed in horror. Our only guide was a tiny flashlight, and every shadow seemed to hide a lurking presence. The production quality was so incredible, it felt like we were living in a horror movie! We absolutely loved the game’s elements. If you're a fan of horror and mystery-solving, you're in for an unforgettable experience. It's your job to locate the alien and assist in launching it back into space. Video above is property of The Bureau Escape Rooms 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Incorporating a suitable character who fit the storyline to assist us when we needed a hint was an excellent idea. One of the early puzzles really pushed us to think creatively and explore how we could use the items we found to operate a device. It had a spy-like feel. The game featured a lot of animations that all looked incredible. The finale was the highlight. We truly felt like it was a scene from "ET". 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Early on, we found a machine that easily captured our attention. We spent considerable time on it because its buttons are actually functional. We recommend "locking" it from players until the right moment for them to use it. The volume of information we had to consume (from reading and watching videos) to find a solution felt overwhelming given the limited time for the game. It also seemed like this puzzle was meant for one person, leaving others with nothing to do as the game was pretty linear by then. Perhaps reducing some information could shorten this period of time during the game. The characters' voices in the game were only audible from certain parts of the room. This led to missing some explanations on why certain actions were needed, causing players having a disconnect from the storyline. We thought that a prop useful for us as a two-player game could be placed elsewhere instead of where we found it. We weren't sure if the item was movable, but its location prevented us from seeing the clues once we started operating the mechanism. One of the light puzzle's hints was quite confusing. There were many possible input locations, which confused our small group as we didn't know if all stations needed to be used. Some instructions would be helpful. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? The Bureau Escape Rooms consistently offers innovative concepts, compelling storytelling, and exceptional set design that feels extraordinary. However, some simplification of the clues and smoother puzzle transitions would enhance the experience. Clearer instructions would prevent players from second-guessing their actions and contribute to a more coherent storyline.
