  • ESCAPE THIS (Perth) - "The Dunny"

LOCATION: Perth, WA, Australia Photo above is property of ESCAPE THIS (Perth) Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝   ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME : The Dunny 📅 DATE PLAYED : December 14, 2024 🎬 GENRE : Thriller 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl) : 7/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS : 2-8 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME : 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE : $39.00 - $60.00/ pp (pending on group size) ☎️ BOOKING TYPE : Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED? : Yes 📖 THE STORY You are locked in the dunny in the middle of nowhere in the Australian outback. You find out that the dunny is the shed where an insane Aussie celebrity, Huge Axeman, lives! You have only about an hour till the sun sets. Can you get out of the dunny and find a way to call for a rescue? 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE I liked that the theme was uniquely Australian. The game started in the dunny, a public toilet in Australia. I enjoyed learning something new about Australia while playing the game. I love to experience an original theme connected to something local. The game master asked us to close our eyes and led us into the room with our eyes closed. I liked the introduction to the room. I was excited when I opened my eyes at the beginning of the game. Although the space for the game was not huge, there were a good number of puzzles and searching items in the rooms. The puzzles fit well with the theme. I enjoyed solving some of the puzzles. From the radio in the room, a character with a voice alone gave us hints. Though it was hard for us to understand the man’s voice with his Australian accent, the hint system might support players to stay immersed and engaged in the world. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Unlike the other game I played at Escape This, some items and the room's decor seemed cheap and rough, especially in the second half of the game. It might be just because of the theme. Our game master helped us at some points, but I felt that was one-way communication because of the style of their hint system. I personally prefer to communicate with the game master directly when I need them. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? “ The Dunny ” is an exciting escape room that captures the essence of the Australian outback. Before I played this game, I thought it might be scary. But it turned out to be fun and playful. While some may feel a bit disgusted at the start, it is enjoyable for everyone to play with friends and family. If you want an experience uniquely Aussie, I recommend trying “ The Dunny ” in the outback! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Escape This Hay St Mall is located at the heart of Perth’s central district. • PanIQ Room - "LLAMAGEDDON"

Photo above is property of PanIQ Room Company: PanIQ Room Game: Llamageddon Country: USA 🇺🇸 Language: English Type of Game: Tabletop Games 📬 Genre: Sci-Fi Date Played: January 15, 2025 Difficulty (based on 6 players): 3/10 Size of Team: 3-6 ppl Time: Unlimited (Recommend 30-45 Mins.) Price: $24.95 🆃🅷🅴 🆂🆃🅾🆁🆈 Planet Fluffrica and all its inhabitants, which are llamas, are in dire trouble as a meteor is coming and ready to cause a planet wide extinction. A spaceship has been made and ready to launch but it can only hold a certain amount of llamas. Convince everyone why your llama should be saved, get aboard the spaceship and be saved from the impending Llamageddon. Photo above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🆃🅷🅴 ❞🅻🅾🅾🅺🆂❞ The outside of the box has some humourous looking llamas on it with a meteor coming down. Inside, we found 2 decks of cards, one of different llamas and characteristic cards, some boards to create a spaceship out of and some tokens. Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🆃🅷🅴 🅶🅰🅼🅴 🅿🅻🅰🆈 First, we set up the spaceship to the correct amount of seats based on how many people were playing. Since we played with 6 people we ended up using all the spaceship boards. Each player then received a set of four tokens, each with a different point value on it. Next, we dealt 5 llama cards and 5 characteristic cards to everyone. The llama cards featured llamas in different occupations, such as lawyer, headhunter, or psychic, while the characteristic cards had effects like gaining extra llama points (LP) at the end of the game or create an additional seat on the spaceship. Each player chose four cards to keep and discarded one of each type. Next, we paired a characteristic card with each llama card and placed a point token on top. We were ready to begin. During each round, players would nominate a llama and try to convince everyone why their llama deserved to be on the spaceship. After everyone presented their argument, we voted on who should board (We couldn’t vote for ourselves). For the 5 to 6 player version, the winning llama’s choice would also get to board. Once a llama boarded, we would look at the characteristic card for that llama and resolve their effect. The game continued until all the seats were filled. At the end, we totaled the llama points for the boarded llamas, and the player with the most points was declared the winner. We loved the artwork in this game from the box design to each llama card that hilariously and accurately represented each profession as a llama. The pieces were all high quality and durable and the story was cleverly written with so many great puns to make us smile and groan. However, we did notice that not all rules and scenarios were covered in the book and we had to create some house rules along the way. Based on feedback, to keep the game fresh as the same llamas could feel repetitive, we did allow people at the end of each round to swap out one llama if they wanted to which we found spiced things up. We also found for the 5 to 6 player game, the twist of having the 2nd llama to board chosen by the winner, added some randomness into the game and balance the game. Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🆃🅷🅴 🆂🆃🆁🅰🆃🅴🅶🆈 This game doesn’t rely heavily on strategy, but like most party games, knowing your audience can make all the difference. We heard some hilarious speeches, and more often than not, the most memorable and humorous ones beat out the most logical. (“Of course, we need a hairstylist in the new world. Llamas won’t procreate unless they’re attracted to each other, and good hair is essential for that!”) Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🅲🅻🅾🆂🅸🅽🅶 🆃🅷🅾🆄🅶🅷🆃🆂 " Llamageddon " is a light party game with some quality components and plenty of fun built in. The players you choose really sets the tone for how much fun you will have to make sure to play with some dynamic and creative friends. The game can play up to 6 people and for this one, the more the merrier. Anyone looking for a light party game, a chance to practice toastmaster skills or just some good feelings should check this game out. While having more players might reduce your chances of boarding the ship, the laughs and fun make the final moments of the impending Llamageddon totally worth it. • Netflix - "Squid Game" (Season 2)

Photo above is property of Netflix 📝   ETR DECODER 📺 TITLE : Squid Game (Season 2) 📱   NETWORK : Netflix 📅 RELEASE DATE : December 26, 2024 🎬 GENRE : Thriller, Mystery 🗣️ LANGUAGE : Korean (English CC and Dub) 🕒 RUNNING TIME : 9 Episodes/ 33-63 Mins. each (varies) ⚠️ ADVISORY : TV-MA (may not be suitable for ages under 17) Video above is property of Netflix 📖 PREMISE After Gi-hun (portrayed by Lee Jung-jae), identified as Player "456," won the prize money at the end of Squid Game's first season, his life changed drastically. Overcome with guilt, Gi-hun is determined to discover who the Front Man is and put an end to the deadly Squid Game. To do this, he must find the Recruiter to return to the island where the survival games are held. Money is not an issue for Gi-hun, as he has acquired a vacant hotel and an arsenal with a shooting range for training. After locating the Recruiter and extracting the information needed, he intended to hunt down the Front Man and kill him. However, things don't go as planned, and Gi-hun ends up participating in the games once more. Photo above is property of Netflix 🦑    GAMES A new rule has been introduced this time: players can leave at any time if the majority agrees. This plays a major role in how the players begin to for alliances. The first challenge is "Red Light, Green Light," a game familiar to Gi-hun, where he warns the players that it is more than just a game, it's life or death. Moving forwards, new games are introduced. The next one being "Six-Legged Pentathlon" which include five children's games: "ddakji", "biseokchigi", "gong-gi", "jegi" and "spinning top". Players are required to form teams of five and must complete all five games in five minutes. "Mingle" is the subsequent game where players assemble on a large merry-go-round. When it stops, a number is broadcast over the speakers, prompting players to form groups corresponding to that number and enter inside a room. Those unable to reach a door or who don't fulfill the numerical requirement are eliminated by the guards. Similar to season one, the next challenge is to survive the night in a game known as "Lights Out (Special Round)". This takes place in the dormitory, where players are permitted to retain their meal forks to use as weapons for ambushing and eliminating other contestants. Photos above are property of Netflix ✍️ REVIEW When Netflix's "Squid Game" premiered, I was amazed! It was a familiar genre with a story that was truly unique. For me, the first season met all the criteria for an outstanding show! So when season 2 was officially announced, I was unsure about how the story would continue and, more importantly, whether it would meet the expectations. Although Gi-hun won and left with a large sum of money, the experience left him traumatized and seeking answers. After binge-watching the entire season 2, I must say you can't compare the two because each is unique and excellent in its own way. In this season, characters that you question their whereabouts in the finale of season 1 return such as - the Recruiter, the Front man, Detective Hwang Jun-ho, and Park Jung-bae. With the inclusion of new games, new players, and new plot twists, every episode had me at the edge of my seat! Photo above is property of Netflix 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? First, you should definitely re-watch season one or at least the finale in order to refresh your memory. Second, don't approach season two by comparing it to season one. Nonetheless, it is equally impressive. While the element of surprise isn't quite the same, we already understand that the games are perilous for the players, and it's likely best not to become too attached to any of the characters. The show isn't hesitant to eliminate beloved players. • GAME OVER Escape Rooms (Schöftland) - "Pirates of the Caribbean"

LOCATION: Schöftland, Switzerland Photo above is property of GAME OVER Escape Rooms Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝   ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME : Pirates of the Caribbean 📅 DATE PLAYED : December 6, 2024 🎬 GENRE: Adventure, Pirate 🧠 DI FFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl) : 5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS : 2-6 ppl 🕒 LENGT H OF T IME : 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE : 92 - 180 CHF ☎️ BOOKING TYPE : Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED? : Yes [30:04] 📖 THE STORY You find yourselves aboard Blackbeard’s pirate ship, and have made your way inside his private quarters. You are close to finding his booty, but can you get to it before he returns? Video above is property of GAME OVER Escape Rooms 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Similar to " Chocolate Factory " and perhaps also " Phantazma ", this is a good starter room for less experienced players, or even for those who have never played in an escape room before. The room design is simple, focusing only on props which have a use in the game; reducing the amount of items which may mislead or confuse newer teams. And these props are also all thematically relevant to the pirate theme, helping to create a level of immersion into the pirating world. GAME OVER has developed a clue system which is aimed at helping newer teams too. The system is fully automated and allows players to ask for up to two hints on a particular puzzle - don’t worry, since the game is linear it knows which puzzle you are on at all times. Although the core element to most of the puzzles is fundamentally the same - place an object in a certain spot - they are still designed well enough that they feel different and engaging. The adventure included searching, map work, decoding, and logic puzzles. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK On the surface the room looks thematic, but GAME OVER could have achieved much more with such a large space. The use of more authentic materials, such as real wooden planks on the walls, instead of just painting them to look like planks, could have deepened the level of immersion and created a far more interesting landscape. The ending was anticlimactic and lacked any real ‘wow’ factor. After having opened Blackbeard’s huge wooden chest, we discovered only a small number of gold coins, this was not the type or volume of treasure I was expecting to find. We found the lighting levels to be too low. Whilst Game Over were obviously trying to achieve some level of atmosphere in the game, the lighting was too dim for our liking and made reading and searching frustrating. Perhaps the addition of portable lamps would help overcome this issue. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Our team consisted of myself, with over 750 escape rooms played, and my colleague, who is new to the industry, and has still played less than ten. And interestingly enough, this created two differing opinions of the experience. For me; this was just an ‘ok’ game when compared to other pirate themed rooms. The lack of special effects, interesting reveals, and more in-depth puzzles prevents Pirates of the Caribbean from creating a lasting impression For my colleague; he thought the room was enjoyable and appreciated being able to be hands on with many of the puzzles. He enjoyed the exploration of the ship and found the experience to be quite challenging. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO There is ample free parking on site There is a lobby area with some seating and lockers Adjacent to the escape rooms is an American-themed diner, a cinema, a go-kart race track, which are all owned by the same person Photos above are property of GAME OVER Escape Rooms Check out our interview with the owner to learn more about GAME OVER + an exclusive tour of their headquarters in Athens, Greece: Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from " ESCAPETHEROOMers "!) • Think Escape Games - "Mayan Ruins"

LOCATION: Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA Photo above is property of Think Escape Games Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝   ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME : Mayan Ruins 📅 DATE PLAYED : November 21, 2021 🎬 GENRE : Adventure, Exploration 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl) : 5.5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS : 2-8 PPL 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME : 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE : $35/PP ☎️ BOOKING TYPE : Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED? : Yes 📖 THE STORY A team of archaeologists was performing an excavation inside the Mayan Ruins. They never returned. All of their stuff was left behind, so it's your team's job to figure out what happened and finish what they started... Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Love the lighting in this room. The blue light really accentuated the Mayan colors. The stone walls, wooden crates, and scriptures on the wall made us feel like archaeologists. Without giving away any spoilers, there was a moment in the game that we had to confirm with our game master if we're doing anything wrong. Once we heard we are not "breaking" any rules, our inner "hulks" came out. That was an unforgettable moment and something we haven't experienced as a set design component in other escape rooms. They also had a clever way of reusing the items. The creator had innovative ideas on how to reuse certain props that we didn't think would be relevant anymore. It was nice to see that being implemented into an actual puzzle. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The lighting was too "happy" for the theme of the game. We were hoping for a bit more eerie type of feeling as we find out what had happen to the crew. Perhaps a change in the storyline will make the set design more reasonable. Certain triggers were quite sensitive. We solved two puzzles without knowing what we had pressed. The conclusion seems unclear. We're not sure what exactly happened to the previous team members. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? " Mayan Ruins " is definitely build for adventurers that would make you feel like Nathan Drake or Lara Croft. It's not too difficult for beginners and perhaps this room will lure you into want to play more escape rooms after you discover the secrets within. If you think you and your team mates have what it takes then sign up for the mission now! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Free parking lot in front of the facility (be advised that there are also metered spots in front, make sure to park at the non meter ones) Lobby area with seating Pool table & Arcade games Beverages available for purchase (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) Merchandise available for purchase Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from " ESCAPETHEROOMers "!) • The Great Escape Room (Providence) - "Professor Moriarty's Game Room"

LOCATION: Providence, Rhode Island, USA Photo + Video property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝   ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME : Professor Moriarty's Game Room 📅 DATE PLAYED : Feburary 1, 2020 🎬 GENRE : Adventure 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 6 ppl) : 7/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS : Up To 10 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME : 60 Mins 💰 PRICE : $28.00/ pp ☎️ BOOKING TYPE : Public/Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED? : Yes 📖 THE STORY Sherlock Holmes has just discovered that Professor Moriarty is planning to release a deadly virus inside the Parliament in London! We were sent to the professor’s game room to attempt to find the antidote. Time is of the essence to save London. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Normally, we’re fairly opposed to rooms that spend half of the time having us find things. But as how it’s described on their website, we already knew what we were getting ourselves into. To our surprise, because of the way the game is designed, it was rather amusing to be able to put the “pieces” together. Since players pretty much take apart this room during the hunt, we were thinking the props would be in bad condition, but we were shocked at how well they were maintained. As a game room set design, this room was full of different types of games ranging from toys to cards to board games etc.… The puzzles hidden within were enjoyable to find when we were able to connect the dots. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK From the storyline, it seemed like Professor Moriarty has a dark side in him. We didn’t really feel it in the set design. Since the room was quite spacious, it would’ve been nice to create a “secret room” with a different ambience. Continuing with the storyline, we also didn’t feel a “wow” factor when we finished the game. Perhaps a nice reveal on the antidote with some special lighting in a box would make the experience more memorable. The game master was very helpful with the clues although it would be great to see more character being built into who he/she is and why was he/she in the room with us. Perhaps a cough or an “unnoticeable” hint would be more amusing for the players rather than the obvious explanation of a clue. Although finding the hidden objects were fun, some were nearly impossible as they were tiny in size (you must have a large group for this reason). 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? You’ll be the hero of this room if you love scavenger hunts and you're a good searcher. It’s a fun game to play with family or friends. You’ll each be able to discover a strength in this room since there are so many types of puzzles. We were lucky to have 4 others join us at the last minute as it would’ve been pretty difficult with just the 2 of us. The game master did say with groups of 2, the clues would be unlimited whereas a larger size group would be limited to 3 hints only if we were able to find the bonus objects hidden in the room (which we did, go team!). 🔎 HINT Make sure you touch and shake out everything. Be organized.  Additional Info Street parking Elevator access to 4th floor Large lobby with seating area complimentary soft drinks offered In-room game master *** We regret to inform this game is no longer available for booking but check out other games on their website*** (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from " ESCAPETHEROOMers "!) LOCATION: Arlington, Virginia, USA Photo above is property of Escape Room Arlington Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝   ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME : Retro Replay 📅 DATE PLAYED : June 4, 2024 🎬 GENRE : Sci-Fi 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl) : 5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS : 2-8 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME : 60 Mins 💰 PRICE : $44.00/ pp (Min. 2 ppl) - $272.00 (8 ppl) ☎️ BOOKING TYPE : Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED? : Yes 📖 THE STORY Leather jacket? Got it. Acid wash jeans? Absolutely. We're heading to the arcade tonight, so search under the seats of your '84 Pontiac Fiero for some quarters while “Sweet Child O' Mine” plays loudly on the dashboard FM transistor radio. Amidst the flashing lights reflecting on your aviators and the scent of old popcorn, whispers circulate about the impending closure of Arlington Arcade. Can you rescue the arcade tonight? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The set design featured classic arcade games from the 1990s such as pinball, claw machines, and joystick games. Together with the prize counter, they truly brought back nostalgic memories of childhood. One of the puzzle elements incorporated computer parts from the 90s, offering an innovative twist to the puzzle design. Despite the room's limited size, we appreciated the creator's clever ideas in creating additional areas that served as gateways to new spaces. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The props in this room are in need of an update. Upon entering this arcade, a sense of eerie sadness enveloped us as it seemed on the verge of closure. Despite our hopes of enjoying the games one last time, we discovered that they were merely props and not operational. The game felt brief in terms of puzzles, and the ending lacked a triumphant moment. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Upon entering Retro Replay, our eyes were immediately drawn to the nostalgic setup that resembled a classic arcade museum. The familiar titles like Street Fighter, King Kong, and the inviting claw machine stirred up a wave of childhood memories, evoking a sense of excitement and anticipation. However, as we ventured closer, a tinge of disappointment crept in when we realized that these machines were merely decorative props, devoid of functionality. Despite the initial letdown, the potential for an immersive and exhilarating gaming experience lingered in the air. If Retro Replay were to undertake the restoration of these items, meticulously bringing them back to their original working condition, it could truly transform into a haven for retro gaming enthusiasts. ℹ️   ADDITIONAL INFO Street parking with meter or parking lot nearby Lobby with waiting area Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Check out our YouTube video for a sneak peek of the location, interview with the manager, the room(s) (no puzzle spoilers) and more: Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from " ESCAPETHEROOMers Disclosure : We thank Escape Room Arlington for comping our tickets for this game. Rumors and speculation abound regarding the events leading up to his demise; your task is to explore his former living quarters to dispel the circulating stories. Time is of the essence before authorities arrive to clear out the premises. Can you uncover Poe's hidden truths and unravel the mystery behind his death? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE We loved the enchanting ambiance of the library, complete with a welcoming fireplace. While the room may appear ordinary at first glance, you will soon uncover its myriad hidden secrets. During our investigation, we came across various discoveries that seemed like uncovering hidden realities, eventually guiding us to the truth about Poe's demise. The solutions we devised for the puzzles were truly distinctive. It involved more than just unlocking physical mechanisms; it entailed deciphering hidden enigmas guided by the ingenious clues provided by the narrative. The puzzle designs seamlessly integrated with the room's thematic elements. One in particular stood out, offering a clandestine yet gratifying revelation. The final escape presented a clever challenge that impressed us with its unconventional creativity. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There are some props in this room that require updating. Perhaps Poe's house exterior could present us with an additional puzzle or two to solve in order to gain entry to his residence. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? We have had the opportunity to explore a variety of Poe-themed escape rooms in the past, but this particular one stands out as one of our favorites. What sets this room apart is its unique approach to storytelling, focusing less on extensive reading and more on immersive detective work to unravel the mystery surrounding Poe's fate. As we delved deeper into the room, we were met with a series of unexpected and cleverly concealed clues that not only heightened the suspense but also added layers of intrigue to the overarching detective theme. Can you restore the ship’s operation and reach the final destination successfully? 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The room looked like a spaceship's interior from TV shows and movies. It was clean and beautiful, and because of the nice-looking set, I felt deeply immersed in the game. The puzzles were nicely incorporated into the game's narrative, and they all aligned the theme perfectly. I appreciated the originality of each puzzle. Some of the puzzles had interesting twists, and I enjoyed them! Our game master was so kind and helpful. We received the first hint on a screen in the room. When we needed additional hints, our game master entered the room and helped us. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Some puzzles were printed on laminated papers. I wish these puzzles were provided in formats that better suited the game's setting. Although I appreciated that our game master supported us in the room, it might have been better to have a way to communicate with him remotely to keep players immersed in the world. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? “ Zenith Prime ” was an exciting escape game that allows players to travel through the universe while facing unique challenges. Something for everyone - Whether you’re an amateur sleuth, science geek, or just someone who just wants to vibe and take photos, there’s something for you. This experience not only has a mystery for you to solve, but also Instagram-worthy areas, and stations where players can “play” at demonstration areas, each covering different aspects of forensic science. Multiple Attempts - Since this is not strictly an Escape Room, you can actually re-enter the space and try to solve the mystery again. In fact, the mystery is more of an optional feature rather than the main objective. However, this also takes off the pressure when making your next move. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The Story - Granted; this was more of an open, immersive experience meant to educate the masses on forensic science. However, there were so many potential storylines that were cut off abruptly in favour of the “correct” answer. It would have been nice to find out what happened to the other suspects at the end. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? While " Breach Resort " poses a mystery for player groups upon entrance, this is not an Escape Room with a strict time limit or fixed escape route. Set in one of the convention halls at the Singapore Science Centre Annexe building, " Breach Resort " is an immersive experience created to educate audiences on the use of forensic science and deduction on a scene that could be a forensic nightmare - with sand and “water”. The event was also peppered with fun (but inconsequential to the mystery) activities - temporary tattoos, paint-filled plastic bag throwing (to teach blood splatter), stamps that form your own composite sketch. And people looking for an Instagram-worthy time will definitely not be disappointed. Therefore, if you were looking for something less time sensitive, more family friendly, and still immersive with an option of solving or learning something new, give UNTAME’s future activities a try! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO This game is an experience that was only available during the first two weeks of December 2024, at the Annexe of the Singapore Science Centre. • E.S.C. (Escape @ Science Centre) - "Museum of Humankind"

LOCATION: Singapore Photo above is property of Singapore Science Centre Photo above is property of Singapore Science Centre 📝   ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME : Museum of Humankind 📅 DATE PLAYED : December 15, 2024 🎬 GENRE : Sci-Fi, Suspense 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 8 ppl) : 7/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS : 2-8 ppl (Recommended Ages 12+) 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME : 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE : 20-30 SGD/ pp (depending on day) ☎️ BOOKING TYPE : Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED? : Yes 📖 THE STORY It’s 2500. Climate change has ravaged planet Earth. The Zarkians - extraterrestrial beings - have taken over and you are one of the last humans alive. Except that you are all now exhibits in their own Museum of Humankind - unless you can escape. Find the Zearth plant - the one plant able to withstand extreme weather conditions - in time, outsmart the Zarkians, or stay on display forever. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Highly Immersive and Aligned with the Theme - True enough, you start as an exhibit in a Museum. And the puzzles take forms that would not be out of place in a ‘Museum of Humankind’. At the same time, puzzles were also aligned with the theme of the game, so players interested in sustainability would feel very seen. Puzzles were also tied to the room, and so required players to be present and engaged to get the full room experience. Educational - The room was themed around eco-sustainability and climate change. The puzzles were also a great way to educate players on the goings on and actions taken to curb climate change. Great for Team Bonding - This is not a room for players who are used to playing solo or with another person. The first section of the room, on top of taking a good bit of time, will require the group to be split and clear communication between both groups. Later sections also require more than one person just to find the hidden puzzles. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The first section took significantly longer than expected, and required the group to be separated and to communicate with each other, with little context to help with deciphering the puzzle at first. Given that this would be the first puzzle players would be faced with, it may come off as quite discouraging for first-time or beginner players, or even players who came to play without familiar team mates. Logistically, one of the sections had a risk of falls and injuries if the players were not careful. This room section would also have benefitted from clearer markings or hints, and tools that could cover a larger or clearer area to aid with puzzle hunting. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This room is multi-sectional, with a good amount of physical movement required to get through each section, so players with mobility issues may want to avoid this game. Players who like Escape Rooms that are self-contained (does not need external knowledge, Google, or cipher knowledge) may not like this room as much as well, since it requires a good bit of web searching within the room. However… It’s definitely a room where you will be exercising all parts of your body and brain, together with your communication skills and teamwork. If you’re up for a challenge, do give this room a try! For any future games, we would recommend a maximum of 4-5 people in a group. The price ranges for these games typically range between SGD20 to 30, depending on the day the game is booked. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Located in the Singapore Science Centre Lockers are available Must wear flat shoes (heels and skirts are not recommended due to physical challenges) Before 5pm, you can enter the main entrance. After 5pm, you must enter the side entrance at the Annexe. • Netflix - "Agents of Mystery" (Season 1)

Photo above is property of Netflix 📝   ETR DECODER 📺 TITLE : Agents of Mystery 📱   NETWORK : Netflix 📅 RELEASE DATE : June 18, 2024 🎬 GENRE : Escape Room, Detective, Adventure 🗣️ LANGUAGE : Korean (English CC and Dub) 🕒 RUNNING TIME : 6 Episodes/ 45-Mins each (Split over 2 scenarios) ⚠️ ADVISORY : TV-14 (may not be suitable for ages under 14) Video above is property of Netflix 📖 PREMISE I always thought escape rooms would make for good reality TV. Short of playing the games - which we can’t always do - they would be fun to follow along. If detective and mystery shows are popular, then why not mystery games, as a further evolution of the art-form of the reality show idea. " Agents of Mystery " is kind of an experiment, with respect to the West, which although it is fairly escape room hungry, is almost completely oblivious to the Jubensha craze which is in full swing in the East. Escape rooms as shows have been tried to some degree over here, particularly on Youtube, but they've never fully caught on and became a TV thing. Well maybe that will change with this global export by Netflix, which has managed to do a pretty good job at creating a bonafide escape room show that might attract itself to Western audiences. And more than a simple escape room show, it's really about creating a novel experience, adventure and camaraderie in the face of great tests of courage and intelligence. So it answers one of my most recurring fantasies since when I was a young lad - one which I think is universally also your fantasy, as escape room-ists - that is the never-ending desire to gather your friends and set off on some great adventure. Photo above is property of Netflix In this case the characters are a team of B-list Korean celebrities who become pseudo X-Files style agents, working together to investigate the strange and paranormal, or just downright evil, cases. They work for some kind of agency - the name is not important, nor do I remember it - acting for the good of mankind, of course, and operating from their secretive underground base, where they are somehow able to teleport to any such identified place of interest. Because urgency is a crucial component of the challenge of doing an escape room, they have but a handful of precious hours to resolve their mystery before the teleportation portal closes, and they are lost in TV limbo land forever. They can bring little, but their wits, a few minimal technological gadgets, and the odd jumpsuits - a hybrid of military air force and house painter - that the agency has provided as their official uniform. Photos above are property of Netflix Ok, now for some sociological commentary on why the attempts at creating an escape room show have failed to catch on in the West. I remember watching bits - because that's all I could really stomach - of NBC's " Celebrity Escape Room " charity special hosted by Jack Black being played by his A-list friends, and despite the gorgeous and ingenious sets, the overall experience was somewhat, well, nauseating (ok, it wasn't that bad, they were just a bit annoying at times, and it didn't really work). What was so wrong about it? Well for some reason when they do this with NA celebrities, their compulsion to be continuously entertaining ruins the show. They get in the way of the game, in fact it usually kind of falls by the wayside in the face of their own narcissistic self promotion and attention grabbing, made even more cringey by the fact that the escape room itself was heavily geared as a biography to their lives, so that they had something to make material out of, as if the game in itself was too boring to be the central focus of the show. By getting in the way of the game, they got in the way of the viewer, because they didn't understand that they were stopping the watcher from playing along with them, but instead were engrossed with communicating things like what a “spaz” Lisa Kudrow was in high school. Korean television in contrast (and by this I mean " Agents of Mystery " and the one other Korean show I've watched, " Singles Inferno ", a show that really grew on me) can be at times painfully banal and subdued - and I will readily admit this might be because the nuances are lost in translation - which I can only think is marred by a kind of communal self policing that promotes reserve and self restraint, that is opposite the NA entertainment ideal of compulsively selling yourself and fighting for total screen time domination, as a way into the heart of the audience. We want to see crazy people doing crazy things, or why are we watching television in the first place, after all. In " Singles Inferno ", you never even see the players come close to kissing, in a NA production “twerking” is basically a compulsory form of introduction. And this is why the Korea squad works so well in a escape room reality show, because although they may lack the obnoxiousness and at times flair of their NA counterparts, they also have a great earnestness, a sincerity of heart, they aren't overly self-conscious self promoters, and although the group can be self limiting they also have a great sense of coming together and of camaraderie that is refreshing when compared to the general narcissism of NA reality show players. They are for lack of a better word, very cute and endearing to watch. On top of this they are really good sports about not breaking the 4th and 5th wall, and keeping the game pure for the audience, whether they consciously understand this or whether it's a coaching of the director/producer, or not. Photo above is property of Netflix ✍️ REVIEW Ok, enough with the meta analysis, is the show worth watching? Yes, I think it's pretty entertaining, although admittedly maybe I'm more attracted to the idea and possibilities of the show than this particular iteration itself. That being said, the show has a good little group of players who are fun to watch, with good chemistry, funny, good natured, and a great sense of communally pulling together. Edgy they are not, but they are still the kind of people you slowly get attached to. The scenarios themselves are well thought out narrative-wise, serious enough to raise your heart rate, and smart enough to keep you thinking, with a good balance between linearity and coherence balanced against open world-ness and multiple possibilities of approach. It's extremely well paced as well, giving the viewer time to play along with the characters, which is an all important part of the fun, and something again that in NA versions they often fail to be conscious of. I was surprised by how impressive the sets were, generally speaking, when compared to other top tier escape rooms that I've done. They are quite expansive and detailed, and honestly, in ways, approaches the ingenuity of the puzzle design of Terpecas best, though it leans a bit too much towards the classic abstract escape room puzzle. There's also some great mimetic puzzles, as well as some really genius ones. The live actors are pretty good too, which is often the X-factor which really distinguishes top tier escape rooms. Photo above is property of Netflix 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? I really hope they continue the series, and that the format sticks and shows like this catch on, which is what I think they are hoping to do if this run proves successful viewer wise. Just as with escape rooms, the genre is just coming into its own, as we see it transform from escape rooms and puzzles, to much more dramatic and mimetic scenarios based around simulating an experience as opposed to simple puzzle solving. I think the next transition should be into horror, as it both amps up the drama, as well as to further challenge the players' courage and cohesion. Think " Saw ", though obviously not as insane. Horror is a good bridge to further dramatic possibilities, and to push the art-form forward we need ever more intense and mind bending scenarios, as well as scenarios that create more authentically dramatic moments. The biggest knock against the show is that the Korean characters are not relatable nor interesting enough, but I think they actually set the proper tone for how players should approach these games. If they can keep this in mind, while adding the entertainment sensibilities and popular cultural backgrounds of NA players, then I think it would be a perfect fit for the western market. Maybe they turn it into a competition with teams. Imagine if they brought together some of the most creative escape room minds to make the rooms, then we would have escape room creator celebrities - from the mind of!…It's a well done production, so go have some fun and watch it, and be happy that this is one more step in escape rooms becoming mainstream. • Society of Curiosities - "Winchester Mystery House: The Century Ghost"

Photo above is property of Society of Curiosities Company: Society of Curiosities Game: Winchester Mystery House: The Century Ghost Country: Canada 🇨🇦 Language: English Type of Game: Digital Escape Game 💻 Genre: Paranormal, Mystery Date Played: March 21, 2024 Difficulty (based on 4 players): 3/10 Size of Team: 1-4 Players (Recommended Ages 10+) Time: Unlimited (Suggested 45-90 Mins) Price: $15.00 🆃🅷🅴 🆂🆃🅾🆁🆈 In the next installment of the The Winchester House Digital Puzzle games, the historian of this infamous house of Sarah Winchester (who’s husband created the Winchester Rifle) has started to get an uneasy feeling in certain rooms of the house. He is hoping with your help you can unravel the clues left hidden in the walls that suggest spirits are still haunting these halls…but why? And how can you stop them? Better start communicating! Note : This game is a mixture of history and fiction. 🆃🅷🅴 🅶🅰🅼🅴 🅿🅻🅰🆈 "The Century Ghost" is a digital puzzle game where players are guided by an NPC through the chatbox feature embedded into the website. As such you need access to the internet to play and you need to have the webpage full screened or it will not play (this is more relevant if you are playing on Zoom and want to see your friends). You are also able to share your code to up to three friends so you can all maneuver the game while working virtually, which I really liked. Taylor, our historian, will provide all the materials we need on our desk as we move through the game so your only task is to analyze the documents, photos, diary entities, letters, and notes gathered by Taylor. Once you have uncovered a name, location, or radio frequency code you message Taylor in the chat box and he will follow through with your request. You will be able to click documents and evidence found in the inventory section at the bottom of the page. If you’re struggling to read anything there is an option to have it transcribed to text which is really nice because it can save you having to open new web tabs to zoom in on documents. This means you only will need one web page the entire time to play which my group appreciated. If you get stuck, there's a detailed step by step hint system at the top right of the screen right beside the chat box. Photo above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🆃🅷🅴 🅿🆄🆉🆉🅻🅴🆂 This game is a much lighter experience from its predecessor and thus is for puzzlers looking for a relaxing haunt. There are fun historical influences in the story around the legacy of Sarah Winchester and her ever growing house that were infused into the puzzles and narrative. The puzzles themselves range for searching, pattern recognition, logic, and decoding. I found the linear element of the story meant it was easy to move through the puzzles and also build the story. Each puzzle fit the theme well while also adding story. This game definitely leans more towards newer puzzles as the puzzles can sometimes be on the nose with what you need and only one puzzle really led our group to pause for a few minutes. That said when I figure out the twist of the story thanks to the puzzle before Taylor revealed it I got a fun aha moment Note : If you need to re-listen to the radio because you missed the hint, simply type “replay” after it. Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🅲🅻🅾🆂🅸🅽🅶 🆃🅷🅾🆄🅶🅷🆃🆂 " The Century Ghosts " is another paranormal adventure that offers players a feeling of immersion of the world and light puzzling to keep you drawn in. There is very little prep needed to start and I loved how you could just launch in and get right down to business. This game can easily be done in groups or solo and its lighter puzzles me you can really engage with your group for a fun evening hang out. This book takes us about 45 minutes to complete in a relaxed walk through. • Mission: Escape - "Toymaker"

LOCATION: Dietikon, Switzerland Photo above is property of Mission: Escape Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝   ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME : Toymaker 📅 DATE PLAYED : December 21, 2024 🎬 GENRE : Thriller 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 4 ppl) : 6/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS : 2-6 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME : 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE : 100-195 CHF ☎️ BOOKING TYPE : Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED? : Yes (49:00) 📖 THE STORY You and your friends spent a magical evening filled with laughter and animated conversation. As midnight approached, you walked home together, the crisp night air carrying your voices and the warmth of shared stories. Suddenly, a sharp, startling sound shattered the stillness, pulling you from your cheerful reverie. You stop and look around, realizing you’re in a narrow alley, standing opposite an abandoned toy store. Its dusty windows and faded sign hint at years of neglect. The noise echoes again, a sound like a cry for help. “Did you hear that?” someone whispers, their voice tinged with unease. “It sounded like someone needs help,” another replies. Compelled by curiosity and concern, you push open the creaking door. The rusty hinges groan in protest, and a musty breeze greets you as you step inside. Dim moonlight filters through the grime-covered windows, casting eerie shadows over the forgotten shelves and scattered toys. And then, in the heart of that long-forgotten store, your unexpected adventure begins... Video above is property of Mission: Escape 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE A Visual Treat : " Toymaker " is a visually striking game, packed with details and interactive elements. The toy theme shines through with shelves full of whimsical toys and a large surprise in the final room that’s sure to delight. Seamless Clue System : Like " Murder on the Orient Express ", this game features a smart interactive screen that tracks your progress, displays the timer, and offers instant, ready-made clues at the push of a button. If more help is needed, the GM is always available. The screen also enhances immersion by introducing the story with a short, engaging video and wrapping up with a satisfying outro to provide closure. Thematic and Engaging Puzzles : The puzzles cleverly incorporate the toy store theme and even dip into fairytale folklore, adding an extra layer of charm. Most puzzles require collaboration, ensuring everyone stays involved in this linear game. Challenges include a mix of skill-based tasks, deduction, searching, and observation, keeping the gameplay varied and engaging. Memorable Finale : The game ends on a high note, delivering a thrilling combination of adrenaline and mild scares that left us buzzing as we exited. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Puzzle Enhancement : There were a couple of puzzles I would have liked to have seen developed further. For example, one challenge has you repeating the same simple dexterity task four times, which by the third iteration was already a bit tedious. It would have been better to use it once or twice and then incorporate a different puzzle to get the other two bits of information. Immersion Opportunity : Starting the adventure outside the toy store and having players work their way in would have added a layer of realism and heightened the sense of exploration, rather than beginning in the middle of the store. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? " Toymaker " is a fantastic escape room that we highly recommend. The minor shortcomings did little to detract from what was a fun and engaging experience. Even with a team of four experienced players, we found plenty to do and enjoy. While the game is marketed as “scary,” it leans more toward light suspense than true horror. Aside from a couple of jump scares, the environment is well-lit, and the tension remains fairly mild throughout. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO There is one free parking spot available on site. In the immediate surroundings there are multiple other parking options, which need to be paid for. • Mission: Escape - "Horror Circus"

LOCATION: Rümlang, Switzerland Photo above is property of Mission: Escape Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝   ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME : Horror Circus 📅 DATE PLAYED : December 31, 2023 🎬 GENRE : Horror 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl) : 6/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS : 2-6 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME : 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE : $32.50-$50.00 CHF ☎️ BOOKING TYPE : Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED? : Yes (37:50) 📖 THE STORY Welcome to the Wanderlust Circus! The star of the show has decided to take control of the circus. Frustrated that no one takes him seriously, he no longer wants to smile, he wants revenge! Be careful, scary things are happening here, so you have to quickly find a way to escape. Video above is property of Mission: Escape 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The rooms at Mission: Escape are all from the company ‘Game Over’ and this is a really fun circus theme with some of the best design from a Game Over game that we have played. Although spooky, we wouldn’t go as far as to call it a horror game; there are some jumpy moments and a dark(ish) theme, but it doesn’t become too heavy that we were ever genuinely scared or forced to run or hide. Therefore, this makes the game ideal for those players looking to try scary rooms for the first time. As mentioned, the design and construction of the room is top class. There is a great use of light and sound, amongst other small special effects, which create an immersive game experience that will certainly make you believe you are in a rundown circus. Progression of story is something often forgotten in many escape rooms, but here you feel the transition as you progress. We begin our mission on the outside of the circus, we then enter the main guest arena, followed by the back stage and performer’s area, before finally escaping. This made the game feel fluid and once more adds to the immersion. This is a highly interactive linear adventure, which is full of circus related tasks. Overall, we enjoyed the variety of puzzles, which contained dexterity, decoding, searching, and cooperative elements. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There isn’t much in here that they missed. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This is a great game to welcome players into the scarier side of escape rooms and highly recommended for those such players! We think the game will be best played in groups of 2-3 for experienced teams, and up to four for those less experience. Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Free Parking onsite There is a lobby with lockers for you to store your belongings This game is probably ok for people in wheelchairs since the rooms are so spacious Although not owned by the game company, this escape room is situated in a mall with several other activities such as trampolining and puzzle rooms.
