  • Adventure Lab - "Dr. Crumb's School for Disobedient Pets"

Photo above is property of Adventure Lab Company: Adventure Lab Game: Dr. Crumb's School for Disobedient Pets Country: USA 🇺🇸 Language: English Type of Game: VR Game W/ Live Host 📱 Genre: Adventure, Sci-Fi, Pets Date Played: October 23, 2021 Difficulty (based on 5 players): 4/10 Time: 60 Mins. Price: $75.00/ Team * This VR adventure work on the Oculus Quest but they also provide beta support for the Oculus Rift, Oculus Rift S, and HTC Vive, theValve Index, Vive Cosmos, and Windows Mixed Reality (with Steam VR)! It's designed to be a seated or standing experience. Currently it does not support PSVR. 🆃🅷🅴 🆂🆃🅾🆁🆈 An Adventure Lab host is waiting to guide you and up to 7 of your VR equipped friends on a time-based puzzle adventure that will last between 45 and 60 minutes. You’ll enjoy a unique social adventure that you’ll remember as if you were all together. You have been invited to join the Virtual Investigations Agency (V.I.A.), an underground group, using the latest VR technology to solve the kind of mysteries the big guys can't. As new recruits, you will take on the mystery of Dr. Crumb and the School for Disobedient Pets. Find a way to take down the mad scientist before time runs out. Video above is property of Adventure Labs 🆃🅷🅴 ❞🅻🅾🅾🅺🆂❞ We loved the characters and all the colorful graphics. Currently there are only 4 characters for you to choose from. I really hope that the creator would make more characters in the future as they are all super cute! But since we had 5 players, we had to double up on the "cat" character which could be confusing with more double ups. But there are multiple names you can choose for duplicate pets characters. The set design felt like a giant laboratory/ warehouse full of Dr. Crumb's mazes and obstacles. There's even a surprise guest that pops in the game which we thought was a nice addition to the storyline. Photos above are properties of Adventure Labs 🆃🅷🅴 🅶🅰🅼🅴 🅿🅻🅰🆈 The gameplay isn’t revolutionary, but it is so well implemented. You have the choose between 4 animals: Hamster, Bunny, Dog or Cat. Each animal has their own specialty. Like hamster can crawl in small spaces, cat can see ultraviolet, Dog can smell really well and bunny can jump really high. All of them have their own advantage but it all falls or stands on how well your team works together. We got a short tutorial from the hilarious Ari (who is our host) and he got us through the boot camp where we learned about the different kinds of mechanics of the game. We were also able to teleport through the game by pointing where we wanted to go. The others players might not see you disappear for a moment but your avatar suddenly jumps (hops?) to that place. It might seem insignificant, but it just shows the amount of detail the whole dev team has put in it this game. After that, we had to go through several trials where the mechanics takes central stage until we reached a medal and a final battle with Dr. Crumb. Photos above are properties of Adventure Labs 🆃🅷🅴 🅿🆄🆉🆉🅻🅴🆂 The puzzles are heavily based on teamwork. You still have to figure out what to do with each mechanic. The puzzles aren’t that hard as a whole, but that’s also because the whole experience only lasts (unfortunate) for an hour and there is some banter before, between and after the chambers. So the puzzle part of the game seem a bit short as well. Even with a fairly new team you’d probably get through the game easily and I think that's the intention from the creators. This was meant to be a fun group activity rather than hard puzzles to stump you in the game. You can even view this as a game made for a younger audience but we truly enjoyed it as 5 adults. 🅲🅻🅾🆂🅸🅽🅶 🆃🅷🅾🆄🅶🅷🆃🆂 This game isn’t an escape room per se. It feels like a live theater with puzzles sprinkled through it... and it is AMAZING! I was more trying to solve the puzzles as fast as possible just to hear what the host had to say. The best part of it all is the host's acting and improv skills throughout the whole ordeal. Which is also why I consider this part escape room part live theater. The host acts so flawlessly between characters (because they also play ALL the roles during this game) and have so many quips and jokes ready that every time you come in contact with them, he had a witty comeback. It was always so much fun to watch him act like a true puppeteer of their avatar. This just makes the whole experience feel so unique! Our team immediately asked if there is another adventure we could play in the future (which sadly, there isn’t yet). This just means that we as a team are really looking forward to what Adventure lab has to offer in the future. Who knows? …. Maybe Dr. Crumb want to have his revenge? 😉 It's official! We have earned our memberships into the V.I.A. by completing our first mission... dealing with that nasty Dr. Crumb menace. (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) Disclosure: We thank Adventure Lab for providing us with a sample of the game. Although a complimentary experience was generously provided, it does not impact our opinion on the review whatsoever. #JoeriJacobs #AtHomeGames #VRGames #OculusQuest2 #AdventureLab #Fun #Adventure #SciFi

  • Escape Factor - "Bonus Fun Time Game Show Challenge"

LOCATION: Chicago, Illinois, USA Photo above is property of Escape Factor Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Bonus Fun Time Game Show Challenge 📅 DATE PLAYED: November 27, 2022 🎬 GENRE: Game Show 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 4 PPL): 5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 3-9 ppl (Recommend 3-6 ppl) 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins 💰 PRICE: $139.99 (3 ppl), $32.99-$34.99/ pp Above that ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY You can’t believe you’ve made it to the final round of the game show - this could be your chance to win big! But somehow things don’t go quite as planned…and you’ve got just 60 minutes to play all the games and set things right. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Live out your fantasies of being on a game show, with lots of your classic games (e.g., "Plinko") and elements, along with some you probably haven’t seen before! You might expect to see Bob Barker pop out at any minute. The games also brings a nice mix of puzzle types and a lot of tactile elements, as well as some more physical challenges. (Not physically strenuous though.) Having watched a lot of game shows as kids back in the 80’s, it was awesome to really feel like you were on the set of your own show and getting to be the actual contestants! The playful theming and difficulty level make this a great room for families or less experienced players. Though we still had a blast! It would be a fun room for a birthday party for a group of precocious kids. There are a lot of non-linear sections of gameplay so that people can be working on multiple puzzles at once. This is always particularly great for large groups, where extended linear sections can leave a lot of players unengaged. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK This room has a lot of locks, and it’s occasionally hard to know what codes/keys go where. We actually don’t mind lots of physical locks in circumstances where they make sense, like this vintage-style game show! However, trying codes and keys in multiple locks is less rewarding, so we love when it’s clear what should go where. The GM is in the room with you the entire time, as your game show host. This would make it really easy to get hints, if needed, and there is a fun bit of an acting element at times! We felt like there was somewhat of a missed opportunity to further enhance this and take advantage of the GM’s presence to elevate the game with more human interaction elements. Though, this can be tricky, as it can require reading the group to see what level of interaction might be welcomed vs. distracting or annoying. There’s a fun narrative surprise right at the start of the game, but otherwise no major reveals as you progress. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? "Bonus Fun Time Game Show Challenge" definitely delivered on the fun times. It is a light-hearted room that makes you feel like you really are a game show contestant, getting your 15 minutes of fame and a shot at the big money! While we enjoy a variety of kinds of rooms, we often wish there were more rooms that fell on the whimsical and silly end of the spectrum, and this one is right in that zone. It is also a very accessible room in terms of both difficulty and wheelchair-access, and one with plenty of opportunities to divide and conquer. So, if you’ve always dreamed of having your shot on The Price is Right or one of the other classics, it’s your turn to come on down! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO The lobby/ waiting area where you check in and have your rules/intro also has lockers and seating. There also are bathrooms available. There is paid street parking available, or it is an easy 11 minute walk from the blue line. The lobby and games are all wheelchair-accessible. • Agent Brains Escape Games - "The Lab: Something In The Water"

LOCATION: Letchworth, England, United Kingdom Photo above is property of Agent Brains Escape Games Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: The Lab: Something In The Water 📅 DATE PLAYED: March 8, 2024 🎬 GENRE: Mad Scientist 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 3 ppl): 5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: Up to 6 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: £18-30/ pp (based on # of ppl and peak vs. off-peak booking times) ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY Your nemesis, the evil genius - Dr. Nogood - is at it again! He’s created a system to release a poison directly into the town water supply, and you only have 60 minutes to figure out how to prevent it before it’s too late… 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The theming here is on point. Think bright, minimalist, sterile environment with lots of authentic equipment that you would expect in a science lab, like beakers and test tubes galore - bringing me back to my college chemistry lab days. Then there are several large, noteworthy pieces that elevate the intrigue and fit with the story line - like the enormous water tank! This is a relatively non-linear game with smooth flow, and there was typically plenty to keep all 3 of us busy. We got caught up at one point (leading this to be our 2nd slowest time of their 5 games) and needed a hint…resulting in that forehead-smacking “How did we miss that?!?!” moment (as opposed to the dreaded…”How would we possibly know that?!?!”). The puzzles were fair and entertaining! The passion the owners have for the industry and their rooms is palpable. It came through in all their rooms and our interaction with one of them and their staff. It’s hard not to get excited when faced with their contagious energy and enthusiasm! They clearly want folks to have a blast, and pay close attention to the games to be ready to provide hints or feedback as needed. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There are a LOT of padlocks in the room. I don’t necessarily object to that, but I would have loved a bit more signposting as to which lock went with which code when there were multiples of the same format. The recurring character of Dr. Nogood is a cute tie-in between multiple of the games here at Agent Brains! However, as with many escape rooms, there isn’t a lot of story progression per se as you play through the game. It would have been great to have the storylines more concretely progress between the rooms featuring his nefarious plots, so you get a bit more of a sense of him, his backstory, and his history with the agency as you play! 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? The Lab is Agent Brains’ most traditional and simplest room in a lot of ways, with a classic mad scientist theme. But it works! It’s a great room for families (starting at 10+) or newbies but was still enjoyed by all 3 of us enthusiasts for the clean game design and set. It’s probably the ideal starter game out of their five (despite the fact it wasn’t one of our fastest escapes here). So, grab a lab coat and brush off those safety glasses…the city of Letchworth is counting on you! ℹ️  ADDITIONAL INFO Agent Brains Escape Games has two locations a few minutes walk apart. Their main one, where this game is located, is on a super cute little street in Letchworth Garden City, a short walk from the train station. There are lots of coffee shops, restaurants, bars, and other stores aplenty to check out and fuel up before or after your game. There’s a nice little reception area, bathroom (with some quirky branding), absolutely lovely staff, and hooks in the rooms for your things. • The Missing Link - "Till Death Do Us Part"

LOCATION: Retie, Belgium Photo above is property of The Missing Link Photo above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Till Death Do Us Part 📅 DATE PLAYED: February 24, 2024 🎬 GENRE: Mystery, Light Horror 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 4 ppl): 5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-6 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 75 Mins. 💰 PRICE: Є140 ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes [42:00] 📖 THE STORY Mrs. Brown is newly married and spends her wedding night in an old tavern with her new husband. The next day she disappears and before long the tavern is rumoured to be haunted. Now, you approach the deserted tavern to investigate what has happened to the poor young bride and to see if you can put her spirit to rest. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE "Till Death Do Us Part" has a strong focus on storytelling and plot development. Our game begins in the stagecoach which takes us to the tavern and it is during this journey that the story of what happened to Mrs. Brown is narrated to us. Further information is learnt, particularly about the character’s backstory, through videos that are played at certain stages of the game. It wasn’t just the content of the videos that was interesting but also the creative manner in which they designed for them to be played, e.g. it wasn’t just a tv attached to the wall. Overall, this provided each of us an immersive experience and emotional connection to what happened to the young girl on her wedding night, with a twist that you perhaps didn’t see coming. Although this is not an outright horror game, there were some spooky and heart racing moments in it. By creating an atmosphere of suspense; the threat of what might happen, rather than what does happen, they were effective in creating a thrilling environment. Having puzzles which relate to the story is always an important part of any escape experience and we did find that here, particularly with several of the puzzles we encountered later in the game. The Missing Link has one of my favourite lobby’s, not because it is overly thematic or tied to your experience, but because it is full of boardgames! I am a huge boardgame fan and luckily for us, having arrived about an hour before our allotted game time, we were able to sit down and play a couple of games from their expansive collection, of easily over 100. In addition to being able to play the games they also have many available for purchase. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Although there was nothing wrong with any of the puzzles in terms of logic or functionality, we did find them a bit too basic for our liking, and we expect that other enthusiasts might feel the same. In an effort to utilize a lot of technology several of puzzles resulted in just putting objects in the right spot and in the right order, which feels similar to many other rooms. Whilst the room does feature some great effects inside, such as the usage of light and sound, more could have been done at the very beginning of the game as we sat in the stage coach for several minutes. As it is, there were no sound effects for the horses or driver, and no hydraulics or vibrations to provide the feeling of movement. A small detail, but one which did distract our initial immersion. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This is not just a game for people who love dark or horror games. The balance is just right that anyone who can take one of two jump scares will enjoy this thrilling game. We actually believe that this would be a good entry level room for people wishing to try their first scary game! If you can accept the scary theme and enjoy rooms with a strong storyline then this room is definitely worth a shot! Photos above are property of The Missing Link ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Parking is free onsite There is a large lobby area for you to hang out before or after with drinks for purchase. As mentioned, they also have a large selection of board and card games for you to play or purchase. • Kamer 237 - "Room 237"

LOCATION: Volkel, Netherlands Photo above is property of Kamer 237 Photo above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Room 237 📅 DATE PLAYED: February 24, 2024 🎬 GENRE: Psychological Mystery 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 4 ppl): 7/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-6 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 70 Mins. (80 Mins. for 2ppl) 💰 PRICE: Є140 ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes [59:00] 📖 THE STORY It is July 23, 1970 when the writer Charles Grady moves into the hotel with his wife and two daughters. He plans to stay for an extended period in order to utilize the tranquility of the hotel to complete his latest book. Before long Charles begins to lose touch with reality as his mind starts to play tricks on him. It's a mystery to what exactly happened during their stay, but Charles Grady and his family have never checked out of Room 237. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Kamer 237 takes its inspiration from the classic cult movie ‘The Shining’ and although I haven’t watched the it, there are iconic scenes which were still instantly recognizable to me. The game does a great job trying to replicate the psychological excitement of the film with some of the effects that it introduces (no spoilers). Beyond effects, it also has some notable decorative items which make a nod to the film too. For those, who like me haven’t seen the movie, the set design is still impressive with classic 1970’s décor, authentic props, and a really fun ride in an elevator to experience. We were actually impressed, not only by the overall size of the game, but by numerous surprises which occur throughout. The puzzles in this game were a hit for us. We enjoyed how collaborative they were and how much depth many of them had. The answers were not always simple or quick to come by, so we truly felt like investigators trying to piece together parts of the puzzles to find out what happened. This is a game where searching and observation, are as important as logic and deduction. The game briefing takes place in its own reception room, away from the lounge and other rooms. It was decorated to the same high, immersive, standards as the game itself. Here we were told the story and then placed our possessions into one of the suitcases. The Game master did a good job convincing us of her role as a real hotel receptionist. Upon completing the room, which had us exit in to another private room, our suitcase and possessions were also there awaiting us. Thumbs up to the hotel’s concierge department. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Other than perhaps updating the quality of some of the props or offering a little more variety with the puzzle styles, there isn’t too much the designers missed with this game. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This is not just a game for people who loved The Shining, we feel that the cool surprises and effects will keep you engaged and provide a memorable experience. Ultimately, if you are someone who likes more thinky puzzles, rather than hands on interactive challenges this is definitely going to be a hit for you. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Parking is free onsite Lobby area for you to hang out before or after with drinks for purchase Not wheelchair accessible due to uneven surfaces and stairs Photos above are property of Kamer 237 (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) #RyanDriver #IRLescaperoom #EscapeRooms #Kamer237 #Psychological #Thriller #Netherlands

  • Escape Plan Ltd - "The Adventure Begins"

LOCATION: London, England, United Kingdom Photo above is property of Escape Plan Ltd Photo above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: The Adventure Begins 📅 DATE PLAYED: March 7, 2024 🎬 GENRE: War, History 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 3 ppl): 5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-6 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 75 Mins. 💰 PRICE: £28/ pp (£65 minumum) ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY You are fighter pilots shot down and captured in 1941 and now imprisoned in a P.O.W. camp. Thankfully, you’ve made friends with a sympathizer who has agreed to provide a distraction for the guards while you try to escape! But their ploy will only occupy the guards for the next 60 minutes…you’d best hurry! You find the journal of Bob Hails’ - the only prisoner to ever successfully escape. Can it lead you to freedom? Photo above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Escape Plan says they tend to design with enthusiasts in mind (though they have some ability to simplify gameplay for less experienced groups), and I enjoyed both the construction and solves of many of their puzzles! They’re known for creating many of their own wooden “combination” boxes and other tactile, mechanical components. For the most part, we found these to work very smoothly and be highly enjoyable. There was one puzzle in particular unlike anything I’ve seen. There are a fair number of traditional combo locks as well, but they are well sign-posted so as to determine which code belongs where. Our GM, Sarah, was also fabulous - providing an appropriate nudge where needed but not over-hinting. The story was inspired by the owners’ own family history; their grandfather was indeed a fighter pilot whose plan was brought down and subsequently escaped a P.O.W. camp during WWII. This personal component made what could feel dark or exploitative come across as heartfelt and respectful. The furnishings and environment (including the outer waiting area where you get your orientation) are all well-themed. The GM provides a number of low-tech effects to enhance the immersion in a charming way. Though, evidently I missed at least one, being too engrossed in a solve to pay sufficient attention to the environment. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK I misjudged a few times what was fair play - being too delicate in pushing on one piece (and assuming I needed to do something else to open it) and inadvertently getting into a real electrical box in the floor. (Thankfully, I asked to be sure before I started pulling on wires!) These things could both be fairly easily prevented with a little signage or info in the initial briefing. While I loved the origin of the story, as with many rooms, there was no real development over the course of the game. We were also told that we needed to block the doors whenever soldiers came knocking to check on us, which I didn’t totally understand within the story. I do enjoy this kind of extra component to feel a bit more immersed! However, we found it a bit confusing sometimes with the sound effects as to which times we needed to actually block the doors, and ended up doing it a few extra times. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? I’ll admit that the 1940's wartime theme didn’t initially appeal to me, and I might have passed it up if I hadn’t heard such great things about Escape Plan. But I’m so glad I went! I encourage you to give them a try, even if the theme isn’t quite up your alley (and all the more so if you’re a history buff). It’s a fun room for enthusiasts and can be simplified in some ways for newbies or family groups. While the setting is a P.O.W. camp, there is nothing that would be particularly unsettling for kids (aside from some loud noises). The highly tactile, mechanical components feel fresh and in line with the time period, the puzzles flow well, and the friendly staff help to bring it to life. A visit is definitely recommended if you’re in London! ℹ️  ADDITIONAL INFO Escape Plan is housed within Rich Mix, a non-profit artists’ collective of sorts, where you can also see films and other shows! It is just a couple minutes walk from the Shoreditch Tube Station. They are generally able to adjust their rooms to be wheelchair accessible (with the exception of their newest offering); contact them in advance to confirm. • Kamer 237 - "Lost & Found"

LOCATION: Volkel, Netherlands Photo above is property of Kamer 237 Photo above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Lost & Found 📅 DATE PLAYED: February 24, 2024 🎬 GENRE: Mystery 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 4 ppl): 7/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 3-6 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 80 Mins. (Ages 14+) 💰 PRICE: Є155 ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes [63:00] 📖 THE STORY The hotel was once a magnet for flamboyant high-flyers, but that all changed one night in 1982, the evening that Grandpa George showed up at the door under tragic circumstances. Weird things soon began to happen, inexplicable things even. Guests fled with notice and in a blind panic they left their belongings behind. The suitcases piled up and the rooms remained empty. They say that objects preserve memories best. You know that feeling when you've lost something and are afraid of losing memories? You're in luck because we found your suitcase. Come and get your suitcase quickly so that your memories do not fade. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Opened in 2022 this is Kamer 237’s newest and most exciting game to date. There are many things which set it apart from most rooms, but for us the key factor was its story development. The game incorporates professionally made video clips to advance the story and provide further insight as to what happened on that fateful night back in 1982. These videos not only direct you to the next phase of puzzles, but they also begin to enhance your emotional attachment to the experience too. I wouldn’t be surprised if some players may have even shed a tear once the final video has played. The overall immersion is off the charts and few other games can match the story arch you are exposed to. High levels of immersion cannot be obtained through storytelling alone, they also require authentic set design. Again, this is an area which this room excels in. Upon entering we were immediately impressed by a imposing floor to (very high) ceiling wall brimming with the leftover suitcases of past guests. Beyond that we explore the attic, which too, is packed with the contents of those suitcases. But the props don’t just look thoughtlessly scattered. They have their place in the game, and many of which will be used in later puzzles. Being able to explore these spaces was really interesting, every item had purpose and brought something to the game. The scope of puzzles inside is really wide and varied. The designers exploited the story’s plot of having so many people’s objects and memories locked away in the attic; it gave them the freedom to use their imagination when building the puzzles, so not everything was grounded around the hotel theme. Interacting with items from guests with wildly different backgrounds meant we could do quite bizarre things yet still feel connected to the main story. Very clever. In addition to the varied style of puzzle, we also appreciated that so many of them required team work to complete. We were almost always doing things as a team because the game forced us to, which is always great to see. We enjoyed that after finishing our game we could sit in a private room and digest what we had just experienced, being able to talk freely amongst each other and the game master without fearing that our comments could be a spoiler for anyone else. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The game was pretty near perfect for us. Other than a couple of personal preference suggestions on one or two puzzles (very minor), this is a really complete escape room experience. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? I’d be surprised if there was anyone who didn’t enjoy this game. There is so much story development and whimsical set design you can’t help but just stop and admire your surroundings from time to time. The puzzles offer a lot of interaction and are very hands on, yet still require a decent amount of brain power to complete. I think due to room size and the puzzle styles the room will play best with four. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Parking is free onsite Lobby area for you to hang out before or after with drinks for purchase Not wheelchair accessible due to uneven surfaces and stairs Photos above are property of Kamer 237 (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) #RyanDriver #IRLescaperoom #EscapeRooms #Kamer237 #Mystery #Netherlands

LOCATION: Cape Town, South Africa Photo above is property of HintHunt Africa Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: MARBLE 📅 DATE PLAYED: February 13, 2024 🎬 GENRE: Sci-Fi 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 7.5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-6 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 75 Mins. 💰 PRICE: R395/ pp ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY An evil villain has emerged, creating chaos and laying waste to the city of Cape Town! Our superheroes have fallen in attempt to defend the civilians and save the city. You and your friends have been recruited by the MARBLE agency to end this reign of terror by using the remaining powers available! Whatever it takes... Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE We were immediately captivated by the neon "MARBLE" sign above the high-tech electronic doors! It was the perfect way to make an entrance into this superhero sci-fi game. Inside the MARBLE agency headquarters, there are computer screens and weapons mounted on the wall. We were then debriefed with a video about our mission. The entire experience kept us engaged from beginning to end and we never once lost the immersion. The set design was truly remarkable and had so many Marvel easter eggs throughout the game. There was a lot of tech incorporated into "MARBLE" and it's exactly the type of experience you would imagine inside a superhero-themed game! "MARBLE" isn't your typical "use your powers to save the day" mission. To defeat the evil villain, you and your team must use your own skills that you possess. In the beginning of the game, you are given a tablet and a briefcase containing 5 special powers (x-ray vision, telekinesis, etc.). Should you need help or a hint along the way, you can use one of the special powers by placing in the slot provided in the room. There were so many unique puzzles that we got to solve using our mental and physical strengths... nothing felt repetitive. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK "MARBLE" is a relatively new game and we played it in it's early stages. The upgrades that the owner wanted to add are the same suggestions that we would've made in order to enhance the experience: At the time when we played, there wasn't any notifications (light or sound) that something had opened or unlocked. Another adjustment that the owner wanted to make was a minor change to the storyline. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? As a Marvel fanatic, "MARBLE" is definitely going to be a memorable experience for me! There was so many references and easter eggs throughout the game that I would play it over just to see what I missed. Detectives discovered cryptic clues left by the killer in nine locations. If the clues aren't solved by sunset today, another member of the household might be targeted. Can you solve the mystery before it's too late? Video above is property of It's a Lock Escapes 🆃🅷🅴 ❞🅻🅾🅾🅺🆂❞ When we logged into the game and started playing, we were met with a smooth interface with some high quality images of the locations and easy navigation. Photos above are property of It's a Lock Escapes 🆃🅷🅴 🅶🅰🅼🅴 🅿🅻🅰🆈 Going to the website, we were introduced to the title screen that gave us a brief tutorial on how to navigate the game. There was also a sheet that was used to keep track of our answers throughout. From there, we were introduced to the story in the form of a news article that hid a puzzle in itself. Once solved, we moved forward with the game. The narration throughout Murder at Madgrove Manor stayed true to the theme, guiding us from puzzle to puzzle. The art and photos in the game, along with the puzzle art, perfectly captured the upper-class mansion setting. The navigation was smooth and mostly intuitive. A few puzzles also required us to interact with items which went smoothly. The only issue we had was that once we input the correct answer, the only thing that appeared was a small arrow on the corner of the screen. We would need to click it to progress. It would have been nice to have a more prominent indication that the answer was correct. Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🆃🅷🅴 🅿🆄🆉🆉🅻🅴🆂 The puzzles had a variety of challenges including logic, matching and deciphering cryptic instructions. Each puzzle integrated seamlessly into the theme of the game and rooms that we travelled through. None of the puzzles felt overly difficult. The key was not to overthink any of them. How the hints worked was after you were on a page for typically 2 minutes, a question mark would appear at the top corner. Click it and you will receive your hint. 2 other hints will appear on the page after a set period, to make sure you attempt the puzzle. Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🅲🅻🅾🆂🅸🅽🅶 🆃🅷🅾🆄🅶🅷🆃🆂 "Murder at Madgrove Manor" was a captivating mystery game that kept us entertained from start to finish. The puzzles were solid and easy to grasp, making sure we didn’t stall for too long. The story was intriguing and held our attention as we navigated through the game. We played with 5 people on a large, shared screen and found that it worked well as everyone got a chance to contribute to the solves. Additionally, the game can be purchased as a print and play version making it ideal for larger gatherings. This game is perfect for both murder mystery enthusiasts and those new to puzzling alike. • Verone - Live Action Escape Rooms - "Don't Take A Breath"

LOCATION: Athens, Greece Photo above is property of Verone - Live Action Escape Room 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Don't Take A Breath 📅 DATE PLAYED: December 13, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Thriller 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 5 ppl): 3/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-6 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 120 Mins. 💰 PRICE: 60€/ pp (2 ppl), 40€/ pp (3 ppl), 30€/ pp (4 ppl), 29€/ pp (5 ppl), 28€/ pp (6 ppl) ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes (100 mins.) 📖 THE STORY Have you ever wanted to make easy money by robbing a poor blind man? If you said yes, you should be ashamed. But it’s even easier as one of your friend’s dad is working for the security company that has put alarms in his house, so deactivating the system should be a piece of cake. What could possibly go wrong? The guy is blind, old and alone versus a group of young (and heartless) thieves…well if only you knew the guy was a war veteran you would have thought twice before entering his house for robbery. You are now trapped, will you manage to survive? Photo above is property of Verone - Live Action Escape Room 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE If you have seen the movie "Don't Breathe", you will be bluffed by the resemblance between the set from the movie and the one you live in that experience! The owner and game master is a real passionate and he managed to recreate the inside of the house in a very faithful way, which adds a lot in terms of immersion (so I could only recommend you to watch the movie before playing this room). You will explore many rooms (the total surface is around 240 m²) and every single detail is here, you will really think you are inside a house. The actor that plays the blind man does a fantastic job with his threatening aura, finding the best moments and spots for perfect jump scares (with a top notch timing associated with light and sound effects) 🧩 MISSED THE MARK NOTHING 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Escape rooms in Athens are 95% horror based. Greek players are fond of jump scares, nice references to iconic horror movies, they want adrenaline more than solving puzzles. For them, immersion should be the top point to validate an escape room: you have actors and actresses that know their job, where and when to scare you in the most efficient way, every situation is calculated in advance for the most impact. This room can be classified as an immersive experience: there are some riddles to make you navigate in the house and interact with your friends but they are not the main part of the room. What makes this room unique is the interaction with the actor/game master and the recreation of iconic moments that you can see in the movie! This room is a MUST DO, even if what makes you happy is solving puzzles and have intense brain activity, I’m pretty adamant that you will still love this experience, it really changes from what we usually have as players. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO There are some parking spots not far from the place but it’s not too far from a metro station if you don’t have a car, every room in Athens can be reached by metro + walking I wouldn’t recommend pregnant women to play this room unfortunately. There is a small lobby and you will be offered water if you need AT THE END of the experience. Be prepared right from the beginning for the sake of immersion. You can relax on chairs if needed in the end. • Lockhill - "Chapel & Catacombs"

LOCATION: Athens, Greece Photo above is property of Lockhill 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Chapel & Catacombs 📅 DATE PLAYED: December 14, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Horror, Supernatural 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 3 ppl): 4/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-8 ppl (ages 12+) 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 130 Mins. 💰 PRICE: 60€/ pp (2 ppl), 35€/ pp (3 ppl), 30€/ pp (4 ppl), 29€/ pp (5 ppl), 28€/ pp (6-8 ppl) ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes (90 mins.) 📖 THE STORY Investigating in a remote village on a rainy and dark day isn't really reassuring right? Add to it the fact that some of the villagers seem to be part of a demonic cult and are trying to wake an old demon up and doom the world. This experience is fantastic for people who love horror rooms: a lot of dark and spooky places, an atmosphere and a story that give you chills, actors that perfectly know when and how to scare you, a well designed scenery to increase the immersion and make you forget you are in a game and that's it: you are starting to run for your life! Video above is property of Lockhill 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The immersion starts right at the beginning with the game master, so be prepared for some role-play with a very original introduction to the game! The playground is HUGE! You will have to explore many places inside, many different themes and spooky places for the thrill! It’s not an escape room anymore, it’s an adventure! The set is very well decorated and way above the average rooms in Athens, special congratulations for this part! The actors are very good and know exactly when to appear, plus they coordinate very well to create memorable sceneries for your eyes! During your game, you will have many different playstyles to adopt, making you the hero of your own adventure! Riddles are pretty to understand and solve but the diversity of mechanisms is above Athens’ average 🧩 MISSED THE MARK NOTHING 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Escape rooms in Athens are 95% horror based. Greek players are fond of jump scares, nice references to iconic horror movies, they want adrenaline more than solving puzzles. For them, immersion should be the top point to validate an escape room: you have actors and actresses that know their job, where and when to scare you in the most efficient way, every situation is calculated in advance for the most impact. "Chapel & Catacombs" is simple EXCEPTIONAL! This room is one of the highest ranked in TERPECA ranking (TOP 1 in 2022 and TOP 3 in 2023) and totally deserves it: the set, the game design, the actors and the interactions we have with them, the gameplay, the adrenaline going crescendo till the end of the game with a climax! I strongly advise you to visit Athens at least for this room. It’s totally worth it! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO There are some parking spots not far from the place but it’s not too far from a metro station if you don’t have a car, every room in Athens can be reached by metro + walking I wouldn’t recommend pregnant women to play this room unfortunately. There is no lobby. You can store your belongings in a box. There is a gym in another floor, toilets should be available there I think. • No Exit Escape Rooms - "El Exorcista"

LOCATION: Athens, Greece Photo above is property of No Exit Escape Rooms 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: El Exorcista 📅 DATE PLAYED: December 11, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Horror, Paranormal 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 5 ppl): 4/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 3-5 ppl (ages 18+) 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 90 Mins. 💰 PRICE: 23€/ pp - 30€/ pp ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes (80 mins.) 📖 THE STORY A priest has called for your help to save an innocent young child from a demonic possession. Are you brave enough to succeed or at least not succumb to the demon yourself and lose your soul? 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The full experience is based on the iconic movie from the 80’s The Exorcist, with a lot of references to memorable scenes that you have probably seen if you have watched the movie: the scenography is well done and very effective! You are fully immersed in the oppressive environment and the actress’ play has a lot to do with it! As a matter of fact, you will have many jump scares, some impressive performance and acting and will constantly wonder from where she will appear next time to try to grab you or your friends! A LOT of elements of surprise just waiting for you 😊 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The set could be improved with additional decoration or efforts on details but globally it is OK as you will spend most of the time with very dimmed lights so you won’t be able to fully pay attention on that particular point. There are many riddles designed for padlocks, removing a bit the immersive part (we would have loved more mechanisms to use instead, more role-play). The riddles in themselves were not hard at all, it’s more like they are here to show your progression through the immersive experience. Sound effects were very loud, at many times we needed to cover our ears because the screaming was too loud, it may be painful for people with ear sensitivity. And a lot of stroboscopic effects. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Escape rooms in Athens are 95% horror based. Greek players are fond of jump scares, nice references to iconic horror movies, they want adrenaline more than solving puzzles. For them, immersion should be the top point to validate an escape room: you have actors and actresses that know their job, where and when to scare you in the most efficient way, every situation is calculated in advance for the most impact. Despite some negative points listed in the “missed the mark” section, I advise you to give a try to this room as the performance of the possessed little child is outstanding and No Exit Escape Rooms managed to perfectly combine her acting talent with a strong scenography. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO There are some parking spots not far from the place but it’s not too far from a metro station if you don’t have a car, every room in Athens can be reached by metro + walking Pregnant women and people suffering from epilepsy cannot play this room unfortunately. • Great Escapes Inman - "Nowhere To Be Found"

LOCATION: Inman, South Carolina, USA Photo above is property of Great Escapes Inman Photo above is property of Great Escapes Inman 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Nowhere To Be Found 📅 DATE PLAYED: December 10, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Mystery, Thriller 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 4 ppl): 6/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-10 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: $80.00 (2 ppl) or $30/ pp (3+ ppl) ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY Otis, the owner of the "Gas and Go" gas station, has finally decided to take a well-deserved vacation after tirelessly running his small-town establishment for years. Leaving his trusted friend Earl in charge, Otis sets off for some much-needed rest and relaxation. However, things take a sinister turn when Otis tries to contact Earl during his vacation, only to receive no response. Concerned for Earl's well-being, Otis contacts the country sheriff, who is already overwhelmed with the chaos caused by an escaped asylum patient wreaking havoc in Inman. The urgency of the situation escalates when it's revealed that the gas station has a critical pressure valve that must be released every 60 minutes to prevent a catastrophic explosion. With time ticking away, the sheriff calls upon your group to enter the gas station, release the pressure valve, and search for Earl before it's too late. You have only 60 minutes to defuse the potentially explosive situation and uncover the whereabouts of Earl. The clock is ticking, and the stakes couldn't be higher. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The puzzles in "Nowhere to be Found" truly stand out, offering a diverse range that spans from word puzzles to physical challenges. Each puzzle seamlessly integrates into the story world, providing a satisfying experience for both novice and experienced players alike. Despite the variety, none of the puzzles are overly challenging, allowing for a smooth flow of gameplay and a sense of accomplishment with each solution. Despite being a locally-owned company with just a single room, the set design of the gas station is expertly crafted. It authentically captures the essence of an off-the-beaten-path gas station, complete with antique artifacts and cleverly hidden locks and keys that blend seamlessly into the decor. The attention to detail showcases the dedication and craftsmanship put into creating the immersive environment. The Game Masters play a crucial role in immersing players into the story world. While there is no actor interaction within the room itself, the Game Masters set the stage with their in-character portrayal, particularly as the sheriff at the beginning of the experience. Their commitment to the narrative adds depth to the overall atmosphere and enhances the players' engagement throughout the game. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK While "Nowhere to be Found" provided a thoroughly enjoyable experience overall, our group's primary complaint arose during the finale. While it made sense within the context of the story world, we felt that it could have benefited from a bit more human touch. Although not inherently bad, the conclusion left our group with a lingering sense of wanting more, especially considering the high quality of puzzles we encountered throughout the game. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Great Escapes Inman truly stands out as a quintessential mom and pop shop, evident in their genuine passion for and understanding of the escape room industry. The puzzle flow showcased some of the best I've encountered in all my escapades. The storyline was refreshingly unique and incredibly engaging, enhanced by the use of antique props that were both stunning and nostalgic, spanning from the 1960s to the present day. Throughout the 60-minute experience, we reveled in the myriad of surprises and unexpected twists that the game presented. Despite being one of the fastest teams the company has ever seen, escaping the room in just 30 minutes, it in no way detracted from the overall gameplay or storyline of "Nowhere to be Found." This hidden gem is an absolute delight, and if you ever find yourself in the area, it's highly recommended for a try. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Free Street Parking One player must crawl briefly Short bursts of flashing lights Photos above are property of Great Escapes Inman (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) #MikeSchnurr #IRLescaperoom #EscapeRooms #GreatEscapesInman #Thriller #Mystery #SouthCarolina #USA

  • The Lost Room Escape Adventure - “The Master Key”

LOCATION: Helen, Georgia, USA Photo above is property of The Lost Room Escape Adventures Photos above are property of The Lost Room Escape Adventures 📝  ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: The Master Key 📅 DATE PLAYED: September 23, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Fantasy 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 6/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 4-10 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: $32.00 - $40.00/ pp ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY As students of Professor Glenn, you've noticed a considerable absence of class time lately. The revelation that he has been missing for an extended period raises concerns, especially considering he always carries his distinctive golden keys. Intrigued and determined, you decide to investigate Professor Glenn's office, hoping to discover clues about his whereabouts. Little do you know that this inquisitive journey will lead you into hidden worlds you never imagined. Each corner holds secrets, and the quest becomes a race against time to locate all three keys and uncover the mystery behind Professor Glenn's disappearance before dire consequences unfold. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The rich array of puzzles in this game contributes to its overall complexity, creating an engaging challenge. Although individual puzzles may not be the most formidable, their abundance introduces a layer of difficulty, especially for smaller groups. Nevertheless, the game excels in maintaining a smooth and logical connection between each puzzle, ensuring a satisfying and coherent progression. The inclusion of multi-step logic puzzles, among my personal favorites, adds an extra dimension of accomplishment to the gameplay. The set design, a pivotal aspect of any escape room experience, elevates this game to a new level of enjoyment. Filled with secret passages, concealed doors, and surprising nooks, the game constantly keeps players on their toes. Every discovery, whether expected or not, adds to the overall immersive thrill. As you explore, it becomes evident that the creators have poured thoughtful details into every corner, offering a dynamic and unpredictable environment. The game's thematic identity is a standout feature, reminiscent of classics like the computer game Myst. In this game, players journey through diverse worlds, each presenting unique challenges and cleverly crafted puzzles. This thematic approach not only adds to the intrigue but also enhances the overall immersive quality of the experience. Each world you encounter brings forth a fresh set of interactions and puzzles, making the journey as captivating as the destination. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Certain elements of the scenic design did catch my attention during the game. While these aspects didn't undermine the overall gaming experience, there was room for more immersive detailing in the set design. Without revealing specific details, some noticeable features included a large electronic box embedded in the wall and various random buttons that served as controls for different puzzles in the room. While not a significant drawback, a more seamless integration of these elements into the overall aesthetics could have heightened the immersive quality of the set. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? "The Master Key" stands out as a testament to the creator's passion for escape rooms, with each puzzle, set design, and scenic element radiating love and dedication. The game takes players on a magical journey, seamlessly transitioning between uniquely crafted rooms. This immersive experience is a testament to the thoughtful puzzle design, creating a harmonious blend of diverse challenges. The attention to detail and commitment to delivering an enjoyable escapade make Master Key a captivating choice for anyone intrigued by the prospect of being transported to a fantastical world. If you're seeking a unique and enjoyable escape room adventure, Master Key comes highly recommended. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Free parking For best experience, players must be able to crawl a short distance Photos above are property of The Lost Room Escape Adventures (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) #MikeSchnurr #IRLescaperoom #EscapeRooms #TheLostRoomEscapeAdventures #Fantasy #Georgia #USA

  • GAMEGURU - "Da Vinci Code"

LOCATION: Oftringen, Switzerland Photo above is property of GAMEGURU Photos above are property of GAMEGURU ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Da Vinci Code 📅 DATE PLAYED: December 9, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Adventure 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 4 ppl): 7/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-6 PPL 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: CHF 30/PP (Pending on group size) ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes (41:00) 📖 THE STORY Teams are tasked with trying to solve the riddles left to you by the famous Leonardo da Vinci. Hidden in the attic of the religious Order ‘Priory of Zion’, are a number of tasks for you to solve; succeed, and not only could you discover the true whereabouts of the original Mona Lisa, but you may also be rewarded with a crystal larger and more valuable than anything you have ever seen before. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The set design uses high quality materials to produce a thematic attic experience with a couple of hidden rooms to explore. We enjoyed discovering puzzles which required team collaboration to complete. Calm and clear communication is needed to complete more than one puzzle and helps ensure the game cannot be railroaded by an alpha-player. Although this is a linear game the flow is dynamic, players frequently move back and forth discovering newly unveiled information to help solve Da Vinci’s final puzzles. The puzzles in Da Vinci are a lot more ‘crunchy’ than those in The Halfling; there are a lot of decoding and logic tests, which our puzzley minds enjoyed working through. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Unlike most escape rooms which typically employ a ‘one and done’ philosophy to their riddles, there are a couple of elements here which can be used two or even three times. Whilst unique, the implementation was more confusing than it needed to be and we felt that perhaps the game would have flowed better had these tools been separated. The time period of the props used were far more modern than that of the 1500’s, which although doesn’t affect the game play in anyway, it does limit the immersion. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Da Vinci is a challenging game which will test both your ability to communicate effectively and to think outside of the box. Lesser experienced teams should not be detoured from giving this a go, but should expect that they’ll need to receive numerous prompts from the GM for guidance… as we had to do on more than one occasion! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO GAMEGURU is located in a large entertainment complex which features multiple eateries, bars, and a cinema. The company also has a karaoke room and table tennis. Inside there are lockers for you to store your belongings.
