The receptionist tells you that her grandfather Morgan also worked at this old hotel a long time ago. When he was young, he traveled and brought back a mysterious object to this hotel and since then, strange things started to happen. Even while the receptionist is asking you for help, you can see the headless ghost behind her! Can you save this spooky hotel without being killed by ghosts?

How to play this game is simple. You can access the Zoom link provided and see the room through your screen. Your avatar can do all the physical work in the room as you order them what to do. Similar to a video game, whatever item you find is added to your inventory system which is provided for you on your screen as your playing.

I loved their inventory system. It was very smooth and less stressful to use because we didn't need to toggle back and forth on a separate screen to access our inventory. It may reveal some hints if the information needed to solve the puzzle is shown on the screen before players figure it out.

The puzzles were straightforward but placed in a chronological order to make them more enjoyable. They all fit perfectly with the theme and added to the experience. They might be a little too easy for some experts, yet there were a good number of puzzles in the game to make most players happy (there were a few minor concerns about a couple of physical puzzles, but we suggested some solutions to make those work more smoothly). What makes “The Mystery Hotel” so special was the use of visual and sound effects made specifically for an online escape room experience. The company set up a system on Zoom to enable us to see some ghosts in the room through the screen. This visual effect was perfect usage to provide a supernatural immersive experience. It was certainly more exciting than just seeing an ordinary decorated room. It definitely helped us to feel the world of the spooky haunted hotel and they also added another challenge besides solving puzzles. The avatar loses their energy every time it encounters a ghost. So, be sure to keep track of their energy level while taking care of puzzles. This extra challenge was not difficult but something we had to keep in mind while solving puzzles. I believe this challenge added another layer to make this game more real and exciting. For the first five minutes, I wished that I could play this game in-person since the décor of the room looked nice and well-fitted to the theme. But after playing the online version of this game, I changed my mind because Hypno Dive was able to use this remote experience to their advantage by inserting pre-recorded video footage to enhance the game.

“The Mystery Hotel” is a fun online escape room that enhances the immersive feeling by using the visual and sound effects appealingly. The puzzles themselves are not so complicated, so you can enjoy this game with your friends and family. It is a haunted hotel theme, but not super scary. If I can handle it, you can! So, why don’t you grab your team, go online, and get immersed in this mysterious hotel?
