  • Enigma Rooms Wakefield - "Uncle Artemis"

Photo above is property of Enigma Rooms Wakefield Company: Enigma Rooms Wakefield Game Uncle Artemis Country: United Kingdom ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Language: English Type of Game: Digital Escape Game ๐Ÿ’ป Genre: Mystery, Alchemy Date Played: November 11, 2022 Difficulty (based on 5 players): 5/10 Size of Team: 2-6 Players Time: Unlimited (Approx. 40-60 Mins.) Price: ยฃ20.00 ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†ˆ Uncle Artemis was the eccentric world traveller that your family never understood quite like you did. When he passed away recently, he left you the key to his locked inner sanctum, a place you remember fondly as a child for its wonder and unique relics. Finally, returning to this place of nostalgia, you wonder why he left you this key and what secrets lie inside the space. Will this provide your closure or is there more to your beloved uncle then you ever knew? Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ…ผ๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ†ˆ "Uncle Artemisโ€ is a point and click adventure game using Telescape. You have no game master and can start the game whenever you choose. After a short video clip introducing the premise of the game, you find yourself inside Telescape with a 360 degree view of Uncle Artemisโ€™ office. You also have a letter in your inventory. Your goal is to click and inspect various drawers, cabinets, wall furnishing, and whatever else you come across to collect and use to solve puzzles. Once an item has served its purpose, it will disappear so you do not need to worry about keeping track. The puzzles themselves are non-linear which allows for a divide and conquer method. There is a large mechanical device on the one wall with different puzzle locks you need to solve using the room. If you require any hints, certain puzzles will have a hint button on the corner of the screen when you access the puzzles but not all puzzles have this so keep that in mind. Photo above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ด๐Ÿ†‚ The puzzles within "Uncle Artemis'' range from observation, logic, and pattern recognition. The main puzzle is above the fireplace but you also have some locked chests and drawers that immediately draw your attention. I found the puzzles themselves to be fairly straightforward and fun but it did take a moment to locate some crucial clues you will need to start puzzling. I encourage you to very carefully inspect all the surroundings first before diving into the puzzles as you will need items in your inventory to solve each puzzle. I liked how some of the puzzles were not overtly obvious in what their intention was. They had a subtle element to them that made them refreshing and gave us a fun โ€œahaโ€ once we put the pieces together. I would say this game suits a smaller group of puzzles as it is on the small side but we were able to make do. Once you solve a puzzle, everyoneโ€™s screen will cut to a short video sequence so you will know your progress. I will say some of the puzzles not having hints did strike me as a little odd but ultimately we were able to figure things out. With this in mind, I recommend playing with an experienced player if you are new to puzzling as they should be able to solve the puzzles you might get stuck on. There was a good range of puzzling and I felt everyone playing was able to really tackle a puzzle each to their strengths. The theme was interesting, especially as you progressed to the end, and I find this has a good balance of puzzle to theme ration. New and experienced players alike will undoubtedly enjoy this. • Questelo - "Room 000"

Photo above is property of Questelo Company: Questelo Game: Room 000 Country: Lithuania ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡น Language: English Type of Game: Digital Escape Game ๐Ÿ’ป Genre: Investigative, Locked Room Date Played: September 17, 2022 Difficulty (based on 5 players): 7/10 Size of Team: Unlimited Time: 60 Minutes Price: Free ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†ˆ "Room 000". Youโ€™ve heard stories about this place! As you enter this room, the door closes and locks behind you and the clock starts ticking down from 60 minutes. Apart from the time, the lock from the inside requires a passcode to open, each password letter or digit associated with an item from your surroundings. You know that this place contains all you need to escape safely from this place, so get searching! ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ…ผ๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ†ˆ At first glance, this game brings back memories of the Flash-style escape rooms I would find in the early 2000s. Each puzzle came into focus with a point and click, zooming into that specific corner of the room. The animation was smooth, and spoken audio is important for gameplay. That was because the hints for each of the individual puzzles could only be found as a looped recording that plays after players click on a phone in the room. Players will also be able to keep track of their individual puzzle answers and whether individual puzzle answers were correct through a tracking list below the gameโ€™s main screen, and keep track of time with the countdown timer located at the top of the game page. ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ด๐Ÿ†‚ Apart from perhaps one puzzle, all you need to solve all the puzzles is located within the virtual room - for example, even a code hidden in morse code can be resolved with a morse code decoder found somewhere in the room. A majority of the puzzles are either visual or logic, with a culmination of different aspects of all nine (9) puzzles contributing to the final answer that unlocks the room. With only a looping recording serving as a hint and nothing else, I would recommend having a separate notebook to note down hints and re-construct a few visual puzzles in order to gain a clearer picture of some of these puzzles. Photo above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐Ÿ…ฒ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ…ธ๐Ÿ…ฝ๐Ÿ…ถ ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ†‚ Playing "Room 000" brought back memories of when I started looking for online versions of Escape Rooms when I first started. And because the room was divided so cleanly - not just the rooms, but the puzzles were individual units on their own - it helped us divide and conquer the room itself. Admittedly, we had to brute force the final password a little due to the difficulty of one of the puzzles. It was only after consulting with the organizer that we realised that it was just a problem with patience and visualization on our part. Therefore, approach this room accordingly! With self-contained puzzles, and the virtual room loading smoothly, "Room 000" feels like a good game for a team of varying interests in puzzle-solving. Hopefully, all of you will manage to work together to get out of the room before the timer counts down to zero. • Escape Live - "Pirate Plunder"

Photo above is property of Escape Live Company: Escape Live Game: Pirate Plunder Country: United Kingdom ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Language: English Type of Game: Digital Escape Game ๐Ÿ’ป Genre: Pirate, Adventure Date Played: September 17, 2022 Difficulty (based on 4 players): 6/10 Size of Team: 2-8 Players (Ages 8+) Time: 60 Minutes Price: ยฃ25.00 ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†ˆ You hear the exciting news that a pirate ship sailed by the famous pirate - "Sharkbait Sully" crashed into the pier. So, you sneak onto the ship, but the pirate and his crew are nowhere to be found. This is a great chance to discover the pirate's secret treasure hidden somewhere on the ship before it sinks and you become dinner for the sharks! Can you find the secret treasure? Video above is property of Escape Live ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ…ผ๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ†ˆ The game is an online version of their IRL escape room โ€œPirate Plunder.โ€ The Telescape platform that they use allows players to enjoy a 360-degree view of the room. There is no live host, but a pirate in the introductory video teaches players how to play the game. The hints are also built into the game. You can start playing anytime you like, and you have 60 minutes from the time you click "start". If you need to communicate with your teammate, you must use your own communication tool such as Zoom. I enjoyed exploring the room with the 360-degree view. It was not the same as an in-person game, but it still gave me a feeling of excitement while exploring it. I loved the simplicity of the game system. Since I could only choose the camera view to see things in the room or the inventory to see the items that were found, it was easy to handle. Photo above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ด๐Ÿ†‚ The room was well decorated as a cabin of an old wooden ship. Searching the items with the 360-view of the room, I felt like I was physically there on the pirate ship. Including searching items, plenty of puzzles were available. Some were straightforward puzzles that people might encounter in any escape room, and some were not. The room had a good mixture of different types of puzzles, and all of them fit nicely with the theme. I really enjoyed the essence of being in the escape room even though I was playing it from home. As for some of their physical puzzles, we were not able to work in the same way as we normally would if we were playing in person. Yet, those were adjusted to the online version. I appreciated that information needed to solve puzzles appeared next to those while we were working on them. The adjustments made the game less stressful to play online. The story moved on as we moved on to the next room. The transition from one room to the next was very smooth. It might have been more exciting if the story had a little bit more of a twist in the end. Overall, the experience of the online version of this game was very satisfying. ๐Ÿ…ฒ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ…ธ๐Ÿ…ฝ๐Ÿ…ถ ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ†‚ โ€œPirate Plunderโ€ was an online escape room that enhanced our experience as if we were actually playing in person. Exploring the pirate ship with the 360-degree view was fun! The room that appeared on the screen was nicely decorated like a pirate ship, and it had plenty of pirate-themed puzzles. I believe this online game captured the essence of the escape room well. I recommend this game to everyone who loves playing an escape room. • Prestige Escape Rooms - "The Witch's Lair"

Photo above is property of Prestige Escape Rooms Company: Prestige Escape Rooms Games: The Witch's Lair Country: United Kingdom ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Language: English Type of Game: Digital Escape Game ๐Ÿ’ป Genre: Spooky Date Played: May 10, 2023 Difficulty (based on 3 players): 7/10 Size of Team: Up to 6 Players Time: Expires 72 Hours from start Price: ยฃ15.00 ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†ˆ Double, Double toil and trouble! hehe Francesca, the beloved Prestige Escape Rooms designer, has gone missing without a trace. All we know is that she was last seen working on the ominously titled Witch's Lair escape room, researching the history of witchcraft in Lowestoft (where the room is based), and that she had started acting quite strangely in the days running up to her disappearance. In fact she appeared quite dark sided, one might say. Maybe the room she was working on - and the crazy dangerous demonic magic that is sure to mess you up that she was toying with - has something to do with it? Either way, there's no way in hell we are going into that room. It should be safe enough for the public though, and that is why we invite you one and all to come help us explore the Witch's Lair, and hopefully uncover what awful dark sided satanic black magic may have gotten our beloved Francesca. Children to the front, please! ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ…ผ๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ†ˆ Admittedly, after a nice instructional on the intricacies of Telescape virtual escape room gaming, it took us a second to get into the room and find our bearings. We had a group of three and although it was slow going at first as we looked around at all the stuff and tried to figure out what to do next, once we kind of deciphered the formula of the narrative/puzzle structure we were off to the races. The puzzles and story emerge in a semi linear fashion, each narrative stage introducing a new riddle while cryptically directing you to engage the room in various ways. The space has quite a few little stations, lots of drawers and such with locks, and lots of clues and objects to pour over. Half the challenge is in deciphering just what the puzzle actually is, and which objects you should be trying to use to figure it out, which I think was one of its strongest points. The room itself is a bit sparse and low tech, but it has some hand crafted and intriguing objects. The occult and astronomy theme is used to good effect, and the whole idea really shines through in the design of the puzzles. I'll admit they got me at least with an initial scare, after which it was a lot more light hearted. There was a lot of croaking (you'll understand this when you play). They have a really great hint system for each stage/puzzle, that gives several increasingly explicit clues before granting the solution, and which does a bang up job of giving you that little nudge you need without ruining the puzzle. Photos above are property of Prestige Escape Rooms ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ด๐Ÿ†‚ Though low in tech and effects, the puzzles are quite well designed, and very entwined with the theme. Even once we got the formula we eagerly leapt at each new set of information, and celebrated every unlocking. They are one part narrative, from which you have to deduce just what is being asked of you, in a way forming the puzzle yourself, and then identifying the relevant objects, and the one part puzzle solving once you've honed in on the relevant objects or station. I really liked the act of putting it all together, which although at first seemed overly abstract, quickly became our favorite part. As a routine set of puzzles it would still have been fun, but we really reveled in the moment of forming the narrative-puzzle connection. The puzzles themselves range from somewhat standard to an intriguing fusion of enigmatic narrative with the occult and astronomy lore. You really have to immerse yourself in the idea of zodiac signs and witchcraft to unlock the logic of the more abstract puzzles. ๐Ÿ…ฒ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ…ธ๐Ÿ…ฝ๐Ÿ…ถ ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ†‚ I would recommend the room, I think it was solidly done and on point. It had a kind of unity of theme, a convincing narrative, and a substantial set of fairly ingenious and challenging puzzles. It has that feel of going down the rabbit hole, getting lost in a world of arcane symbolism and semiology, and of wanting to push further and further into the enigma. I would say that it was more lighthearted fun than scary. I think there needs to be just slightly more direction at the beginning, though the excellent hint system may make up for this. It could have been slightly more thematic at every turn as we slowly uncovered the mystery of Francesca's disappearance, and I kind of wish they had tried to scare us just a tad more. Overall Hats off to Prestige, it was an entertaining room that had both heart and soul. • Prestige Escape Rooms - "Saving Wonderland"

Photo above is property of Prestige Escape Rooms Company: Prestige Escape Rooms Games: Saving Wonderland Country: United Kingdom ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Language: English Type of Game: Digital Escape Game ๐Ÿ’ป Genre: Fantasy Date Played: June 15, 2022 Difficulty (based on 4 players): 5/10 Size of Team: Unlimited (Up to 10 logins) Time: Expires 72 Hours from start Price: ยฃ20.00 ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†ˆ Your adventure into Wonderland has been a delight as you followed the white rabbit, met with the Cheshire cat, and spoke to the talking flowersโ€ฆ but as more time has passed, you realize all is not what it seems to be in Wonderland. It appears the land is dying after the magic ingredient has been stolen. In order to save Wonderland before it is too late, you must find the missing ingredient and say its name before Wonderland is gone forever! ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ…ผ๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ†ˆ "Saving Wonderland" follows a similar setup to all Telescape games. Once you receive the link, you log on and click start to begin. While the estimated time to complete this game is one hours, you do have up to 72 hours to complete the game with your game code which will save any data of your adventure. This means you can play it all in one go or break it up into chunks. The link can be shared with multiple devices and you will all be in the same space, which means once one party member has solved a puzzle, all members will see that. There is a game tutorial introducing how Telescape works that will play at the beginning that I found cheesy but informative for beginners. As mentioned in my previous review on Prestigeโ€™s other game - "Amnesia", I wish that there was a way to skip forward after already watching this in the last game. Players will have access to an inventory throughout the game that will be displayed on both sides of the screen for easy viewing, alongside the hint button (a โ€œ?โ€ mark symbol). When you have finished with a puzzle, the item will vanish from the inventory and a โ€œusedโ€ symbol will appear over the puzzle in the room to let you know you no longer need to do anything. The gameplay follows the traditional Telescape experience so for anyone who has played online escape rooms with Telescape, you should be good to go to start this game. If not, the company has you covered with a detailed tutorial. ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ด๐Ÿ†‚ The puzzles in "Saving Wonderland" consisted of a series of letter and number locks you need to solve in order to access hidden portions of the room. I found this room a little trickier than the previous room, because they were able to hide quite a bit around the room. My favourite part was finding these hidden components and making the connections for the perfect โ€œahaโ€ moment. Our group did run into an issue where we didnโ€™t know if some of the clickable hotspots were clues or puzzles or were just opportunities to examine the artwork (this room has beautiful murals from Disneyโ€™s "Alice in Wonderland" in it). Generally, the puzzles led to letter or number locks and we found it strange that the letter locks often did not create any words. Some of the puzzles in this game require a lot of time and patience, so keep in mind that you have more than an hour. Our group took about an hour and five minutes to complete with 6 players. ๐Ÿ…ฒ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ…ธ๐Ÿ…ฝ๐Ÿ…ถ ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ†‚ "Saving Wonderland" is a game that I would recommend to someone who enjoys at-home game experiences with challenging puzzles and a chance to really take in beautiful artwork. At the same time, this style of game feels like something you will see everywhere as the theme and story weren't really drawn out. Unless you read the roomโ€™s bio before you start, you donโ€™t really know the goal of the room as itโ€™s not re-introduced in a Telescape except for the written bio. This game harkens me back to early escape rooms and for anyone wanting that nostalgia, "Saving Wonderland" might be right for you! So, now you must go to the dangerous jungle to save them. Upon your arrival, you find some weird clues that your friend left behind. Can you solve all the puzzles that they left for you and return safely? ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ…ผ๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ†ˆ "Jungle Escape" is the online version of their in-person escape room without a live host. They use Telescape as the game platform. You receive the link to the game and then you can access the website. It includes the communication tools, an inventory, and hints for the puzzles (although we used our own communication platform). Unlike their in-person game, the online version does not have a 60-minute time limit. You have 72 hours to complete your game. I thought the introductory video was a great way to teach us how to play their online game without a host, especially for beginners. I loved that they chose a Telescape platform. Each member could freely search the room and try puzzles individually just like playing an in-person game. The inventory system was very easy to handle. I did not feel any stress at all playing this game online. ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ด๐Ÿ†‚ I loved that there were so many puzzles to solve. The puzzles were fun and perfectly related to the jungle theme. I also enjoyed playing it relaxedly since there was no time limit (well...72 hours). Most of the puzzles were not overly complicated, however the connections among some puzzles, the clues, and the locks were a little unclear and confusing. Although I loved that the jungle was vibrant with many tropical colors and creatures, sorting information was challenging because similar colors and animals were used in several puzzles. We had to try putting answers in to a few locks randomly. I believe it would be nicer if each component tied together a little bit clearer. Even though some components might be misleading a bit, hints were helpful. The dรฉcor in the room I saw on the screen was satisfying. I felt the tropical environment by looking at the screen (except when I saw an air conditioner in the room). Just for this online version, it might have been better to hide the air conditioner from the picture since the theme was about a jungle. Although a few tiny details were a little bit off for me, the game experience was positive and fun because there were plenty of puzzles for us to enjoy in this mysterious jungle. The web system made it very smooth to play. I actually loved that sound effect of unlocking the key. That made me feel as if I was playing the actual escape room. ๐Ÿ…ฒ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ…ธ๐Ÿ…ฝ๐Ÿ…ถ ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ†‚ "Jungle Escape" was a fun online escape room with many puzzles. This game is for friends and family who want to spend time together, solve puzzles, and have fun with an essence of an adventure from your home. You canโ€™t even recall your own name. You scramble for the door handle to find it locked. You have no idea how long you have until whoever locked you away returns. But something about your name has to be the key and you are determined to escape! ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ…ผ๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ†ˆ Once you receive your game confirmation email you will receive access to a Telescape link to log onto in. Once you click โ€œstartโ€ you will have 72 hours to complete the game, which means you can play it all in one go or break it up into chunks. Multiple devices can log onto the Telescape link and together you will explore the room, examine objects, and unlock a series of drawers, wardrobes, and briefcases. At the beginning of the game there is a tutorial introduction to explain how Telescape works for newer players - as an experienced player I found the two GM's to be entertaining but I do wish there was a way to skip forward, especially when you are playing a few of their games. I found it useful and new that the inventory on this game was split on to either side of the screen for accessibility throughout. You could also access hints by clicking the โ€œ?โ€ mark above the inventory. Once you have used an item successfully it will vanish from your inventory and clicking on the item it was used with in the room will reveal a green โ€œusedโ€ stamp to indicate you no longer need to use the item any further, which I appreciated. Overall, this game follows a traditional Telescape escape room style so gameplay is easy to jump into once you get started. Even if you need to review the rules again, you can always click the โ€œiโ€ icon above the inventory. ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ด๐Ÿ†‚ The puzzles in "Amnesia" consist of a series of letter and number locks that you need to solve in order to access hidden portions of the room. There were many different types of puzzles, but they mainly focused on logic, observation, and math challenges. I would say the puzzles were traditional in nature, so if you enjoy your comfort style puzzling while at home, then "Amnesia" does provide enough variety to move you along. My favourite puzzles were ones that required you to draw out hidden messages left behind as I got little โ€œahaโ€ moments when I caught onto the message they were leaving. Our group required no hints and completed the game in about 45 minutes. ๐Ÿ…ฒ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ…ธ๐Ÿ…ฝ๐Ÿ…ถ ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ†‚ "Amnesia" provides players with a solid puzzling experience that keeps you involved and moving around the room. I would have liked more theming to the experience but the story revealed through cards and messages gave us the threads to tie together the experience. If you enjoy traditional escape rooms and want to play them from the comfort of your home at your own pace, "Amnesia" is a good option! Upon arrival, you find Grandmaโ€™s glasses and miraculously as you put them on you start to view the world how it was, back in the 1950โ€™s. Going back and forth between time periods just might be the missing piece you need to find Grandfatherโ€™s treasure. Video above is property of The Cari Mysteries ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ…ผ๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ†ˆ To navigate, simply click and drag as any 360 view would be, donโ€™t forget to zoom in and out as well. All players can be in different locations when the game gives you that opportunity. There is an inventory at the bottom of the screen as well as two very important items, the diary and grandmaโ€™s glasses. Grandmaโ€™s glasses switch the room you are in to an identical room shown in the 1950s. Things that are interact-able in that era will help you piece together this puzzle. The diary on the other hand, is where you will find information and historical context to the story. There are plenty of clues hidden within so pay attention. Photos above are property of The Cari Mysteries When playing the game, be aware that when a player solves a clue all players will get teleported to where the clue was solved, leaving those who are doing their own task to abandon it. The game is shot using 360 degree images of a house in the country, the pictures and atmosphere are high quality and the puzzles integrate well so that each area works with the story. It is a pleasure to navigate these areas and check out the details and care that The Cari Mysteries put into this game. ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ด๐Ÿ†‚ Most of the puzzles were based on search and find. While looking through each area, you need to click on the items that could be of interest and can be blended into their environment very well. Another main puzzle (one of the most complicated in the game) was an auditory riddle with quite a few steps. It was extremely unique in the execution on how The Cari Mysteries pulled off this puzzle and left me bopping my head back and forth when all was said and done. Progressing through the game, make sure you pay attention to things that might change when interacting with certain objects and even if it doesnโ€™t look like it, can be clicked on. I suggest that you try it anyway. One of the last puzzles in the game was quite devious in its secret. Photos above are property of The Cari Mysteries ๐Ÿ…ฒ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ…ธ๐Ÿ…ฝ๐Ÿ…ถ ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ†‚ "Grandfatherโ€™s fortune" was a blast to play and really was enjoyable to walk around this area in the country land of the Netherlands. The UI worked well, but the most irksome part was when it โ€œhijacksโ€ all other players to pay attention to the action they were not working on. I also appreciate that this game includes "Jitsi" - a built in video conferencing platform for everyone. As soon as everyone logs on, they can see each other on the website without having to have a separate platform open on their computer. The last puzzle could have used some better cluing, but we were able to escape in time and all enjoyed doing so. The Cari Mysteries: "Grandfatherโ€™s fortune" is a well designed game that will test observational skills and puzzling problems to lead you to the solution at the end of game. We definitely felt like special agents performing a top secret mission. Shortly after, you receive a set of instructions for your mission which is to find the secret hideout of the mysterious Black Knight. "Beneath the Dark Dark Wood" is designed using the Telescape platform which provides a point-n-click adventure staged in a bunch of different settings. When you purchase the game, it'll come with a brief video tutorial on the functionalities of the buttons within the game. If you've used Telescape before, you should have no issues going straight to the game. In this game, the hint system can only be accessed after unlocking it. So if you haven't figured out a way to access it yet, you will not be able to get those hints. There were a lot of rooms to explore and it took some awhile to familiarize ourselves with the layout. The visuals used were from real bunkers and we were really impressed by all the history that still remained at those sites. The set design also pulled us deeper into the storyline. Photos above are property of Know Escape ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ด๐Ÿ†‚ We've played a good amount of Telescape games by now, so we're familiar with the usage of hotspots on certain areas for locks and interactive props. Due to the fact that "Beneath the Dark Dark Wood" had a lot of areas to explore and the puzzles were non linear, we really had to associate which puzzles went with what locks as there were many numbered digit locks, safe locks and other variations of combo locks. The puzzles were fairly difficult as some decryption were quite long. There was one design that we haven't seen used in Telescape before where two players had to simultaneously do something in order to make something work. This really felt like an action that we would do in a real life escape room. One of the puzzles had a stuck for a bit as the developer was trying to provide an example but it was actually making it more confusing. ๐Ÿ…ฒ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ…ธ๐Ÿ…ฝ๐Ÿ…ถ ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ†‚ "Beneath the Dark Dark Wood" is actually an updated version of the original - "Black Knight" which we played awhile back. There were some graphics, tech, and puzzle changes from the previous. Some puzzles might still feel familiar, but the navigation and storyline is much better than the older version. There was a lot of different types of puzzles for everyone to solve and as mentioned, this is a non-linear game (for the most part). I thought what time it was now. I felt thirst of the throat. The bed was different from usual. Is this a hotel? No, it does not seem like a hotel. I am shut up. I have to escape." -- opening of the Crimson Room The story is a simple escape story...I woke up in a crimson room, apparently after drinking too much and having lost some memory (possibly due to the drinking?). The room is locked and I need to get out. The room was obviously built to be escaped from, and not to completely imprison someone so it made me wonder more about who built it, why did they build it, and who was I to be captured and tested in this room (I tend to make up and add my own story elements when they are not includedโ€ฆand they are not included). ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ…ผ๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ†ˆ The Crimson Room is one of the first graphical video game escape rooms and considered to be one of the most influential for the genre. It was released 04 Mar 2004(1) and built on Macromedia Flash. The game was developed by Toshimitsu Takagi and was inspired by the graphical game MOTAS and the games Chasm and DROOM.(2) It was also preceded in 1988 by the text adventure escape room game Behind Closed Doors. The music and sound effects were by Oto-Jiten (Datacraft Co., LTD.)(2) The graphics are very, very simple, yet charming for being line art and do a decent job to let you play the game and understand what everything is. Photo above is property of Toshimitsu Takagi The game took me about 20 minutes to play, with the hardest part being where to find items and where on the screen I needed to click to find said items. While now the greatest game in the world, this is an important step in the evolution of escape games both digitally and the influence of this and similar games on the modern escape room industry. ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ด๐Ÿ†‚ It is a charming/frustrating example of early escape video games that rely on not just adventure-game style mixing of digital objects, but also hunting down items in the game by intuiting (sometimes just guessing) where to click on the screen to find a new hidden area, or item. This game feels like an antagonistic-style game, where the game-play may not be technically sign-posted or always "fair," but can be done and solved once you get the idea of what needs to be done. For example, there is no logical in-game reason for why you use a certain number at one point as it comes from a meta-source, but it still works with puzzle solving. ๐Ÿ…ฒ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ…ธ๐Ÿ…ฝ๐Ÿ…ถ ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ†‚ Overall I had a good/frustrating time playing it, however it definitely won't be for everyone. The puzzles were mostly based on logic, a little math and mostly observational. For every puzzle, there will also be a little icon (for example a snowman) to hint at beginners that in order to solve this puzzle, the clue will be looking at that symbol. Price: โ‚ฌ19.99 ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†ˆ An old irish legend, "The Dullahan", is terrorizing the inhabitants of a nearby village and everyone has now left their homes in fear of this terrifying creature. Can you find the victims and discover why the Dullahan is out for this town? This Dullahan creature is a night rider, the original headless horseman who comes in the night to obtain souls for its collection. With no head of its own and a whip made of a human spine, it is quite understandable why the town left their village. Letโ€™s hope your team doesnโ€™t meet the same fate. ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ…ผ๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ†ˆ The game is played in Telescape and is set up in a fairly rudimentary manner. All players can click on and explore each location at their leisure but if one player returns to the map, all players return to the map. This might cause some annoyances while navigating the game. The highlight though, is that the team will explore all of the locations while solving each puzzle. Each location is well-photographed in 360 degrees that truly shows the beauty of a small village in Ireland. Not only is the location quite beautiful, the introduction video and other small โ€œcut-scenesโ€ during the game look very well done and add to the ambience of the game. "The Dullahan" had a wonderfully horrific introduction that added to the dire situation that you and the townspeople are in while properly explaining traditional Irish folklore. Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ด๐Ÿ†‚ The puzzles in "The Dullahan" had some very inventive solves and others that required a large amount of teamwork. The puzzles were integrated into the scenery and most of the time they didnโ€™t distract from the overall picture. One puzzle in particular, in the schoolhouse, was a very unique solve and our team had a wonderful time relearning the โ€œmethodโ€ to complete it. The final puzzle was the most difficult but when it was finally achieved a breath of relief washed over us. ๐Ÿ…ฒ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ…ธ๐Ÿ…ฝ๐Ÿ…ถ ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ†‚ "The Dullahan" is a wonderful example of what a โ€œmom and popโ€ escape room can cook up. The 360ยฐ views of Ireland were very well-photographed and I loved looking around and taking in the scenery. You find out that they plan to attack in just over an hour from now. You must find some way to escape and let your clansmen know of the coming attack before they all perish. Can you save your people in time? This is a room that is based off of ancient lore from around the area. One of the twelve sons of the King of Thomond (located in now County Clare), Brian Boru was leading forces around the area and finally decided that the King needed his land (Limerick) back. In the settlement of Limerick, is where your team is stationed acting as a viking in the area under the leadership of Ivar. ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ…ผ๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ†ˆ "Under Siege" takes place using the Telescape format. It is a recreation of Online Escape Room Irelandโ€™s actual brick and mortar room available in Ireland. All aspects of the room are well photographed in 360-degree view making navigation quite simple. If there is an item that can be clicked on, a small interactive picture will appear telling the user that the area is important. As you collect items, they will show up in your inventory. The puzzles will then populate with all of the proper tools you have found along your way. Locks and inputs are as simple as putting the code into the game and if it is correct, something will further the game. Make sure you remember that players can use the mouse's scroll wheel (or icons in the upper corner) in order to zoom in and out of this room. There might be some details unclear at the viewing distance. This game should take about 60-90 minutes. Online Escape Room Ireland gives an access code to the game and once clicked (or activated), your team will have up to 72 hrs to access and play the game. Giving plenty of leeway if there are any issues with your play session. Photos above are property of Online Escape Rooms Ireland ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ด๐Ÿ†‚ When playing "Under Siege", you will notice a wide variety of logically sound puzzles that riddle the room. Most of the puzzles follow the logic of finding the piece of it, connecting it with the lock and absorbing new information. Pay close attention to all things in this experience, for you donโ€™t quite know when the information will be used. Backtracking is used in the game as well as some deceptive camera angles. ๐Ÿ…ฒ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ…ธ๐Ÿ…ฝ๐Ÿ…ถ ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ†‚ This is a well put together room that appeals to all who would be interested. The puzzle design and flow is well put together and the theme is quite unique. A couple minor issues I had was how the game is presented in its lighting. There are bright fluorescent bulbs that give the room an artificial feel rather than one of historical immersion. Speaking of its history, the story is an intriguing idea to base its puzzles off of and create a world, the puzzles though, donโ€™t further the story other than what we already know during the introduction of the game. Thus, the game lends itself to a more puzzling experience and in that aspect is where the game shines. There have been reports of paranormal disturbances coming from "The Clare Abbey" (the ruins of an old Abbey in the countryside of county Clare). It is up to you and your team to find four pieces of evidence of a supernatural occurrence taking place in the Abbey and deliver the evidence to a famed professor at the local college. All while searching around the location you might come into contact with some malevolent spirits that might just wish harm upon your team. Can you find the evidence and come back in one piece for the professor? ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ…ผ๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ฐ๐Ÿ†ˆ "Spirit Seekers Ireland: Episode 1 - The Clare Abbey" uses an interface that is easy to work with and navigate around. Walking around the ruins of an old, crumbling abbey that was painstakingly photographed gives players an experience they might not get otherwise. The game consists of the basic search and find around the area until you grab the item you are looking for in order to use it in the right location. In this game though, really pay attention to the places that are not in the forefront, for it might just harbor a spirit that you have been searching for. Walking around the Abbey can get confusing, but thankfully there is a map that is separated into numbered squares that not only helps team communication, but also gives fast travel by clicking on the numbers. In each area as well, are transparent numbers meant to help you identify what location you are in or where something is happening. As you progress through the game, make sure to check your inventory for items that may be of use later on in the game. The inventory is a little chest that will store everything that you've picked up and shows you the four items that are needed to obtain evidence with. This game is a spooky game with a couple of minor jump scares. It does a good job hiding the ghosts in plain sight that keep you a little on edge while playing but doesnโ€™t detract from the overall experience. Photos above are property of Online Escape Rooms Ireland ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…ด ๐Ÿ…ฟ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ†‰๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…ด๐Ÿ†‚ The puzzles in this game consisted of some physically based solves, observational conundrums, and auditory thinkers. They provided a good mix between each of these types that is sure to cater to all enthusiasts and casual players alike. Finding your way through the Abbey is even a puzzle in itself, with its grid-like design areas that can seem to blend together. This doesnโ€™t stop Online Escape Rooms Ireland from creating puzzles into the story world that can feel at place and be engaging with the players. One particular puzzle involving an auditory component was quite unique and gives a good example on solves that can excel at completion using a virtual medium. ๐Ÿ…ฒ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ…ธ๐Ÿ…ฝ๐Ÿ…ถ ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ†‚ "Spirit Seekers Ireland: Episode 1 - The Clare Abbey" is a beautiful game in the countryside of Ireland, and simply walking around the location is an exhilarating experience. Adding good puzzle designs into this space then makes the game even more fun to play. I am a huge fan of horror and while this game is not scary, it maintains its creepy atmosphere that can be enjoyed by the whole family. The interface for the game is simple and easy to us, allowing players to focus more on the game and puzzles as well as the sights of this area. The game also has a built-in video communication system so we did not need to have Zoom or Google Hangouts open while playing. Once in the game, the room and surrounding area can be navigated in a 360 view. If you are familiar with Google street view, this would be very similar. In the game, we were all synced together so if someone opened a lock or found an object, everyone would see it in their inventory or if a puzzle was solved, the cutscene would automatically play for everyone. There was also an update feed on the corner that told us when anyone did anything significant such as open a box or find a useful items which then allowed us to call on that person and ask โ€œHow did you do that?โ€ It did take a few seconds to load as we moved from point to point which was noticeable so make sure to close programs you are not using on your computer while you are playing. There were some interesting twists and turns which made for an interesting story. Since we saw a 360 view of the room, the set looked very immersive from all angles. The cutscenes were also high quality and helped progress the story well especially showing us as we moved from location to location. As we progressed through the game, it was helpful that items we had already used were removed as well as some items we were not ready to solve did not allow us to interact with them. There were a couple puzzles that seemed to point you to a certain correct answer but we were still not fully convinced why it was the right answer. If we were to offer some advice, you can zoom into the environment to take a closer look at items that do not show up in your inventory. Keep that in mind. As well, make sure to communicate with your team. Some of you may get different items along the way. ๐Ÿ…ฒ๐Ÿ…ป๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†‚๐Ÿ…ธ๐Ÿ…ฝ๐Ÿ…ถ ๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ…พ๐Ÿ†„๐Ÿ…ถ๐Ÿ…ท๐Ÿ†ƒ๐Ÿ†‚ This was a fun horror game to play at home that was not too scary. The interface takes a puzzle or 2 to get used to but after a couple solves, we easily got the hang of it. The cutscenes was good quality and fun to watch. As a warning, there was one part that had flashing strobe lights that could trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy. We played with 5 people and felt this was a good number to allow everyone to participate. More and you might find yourself talking over each other a lot. If you need a good team game to play online, this is a solid choice. (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) Disclosure: We thank Amaze Escape 360ย for providing us with a sample of their game. Although a complimentary experience was generously provided, it does not impact our opinion on the review whatsoever. #MatthewLui #AtHomeGames #DigitalGame #PointNClick #AmazeEscape360 #Horror #Netherlands
