- MASTERMIND - "Sin City Remastered"
LOCATION: Monastiraki, Athens, Greece Photo above is property of MASTERMIND Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Sin City Remastered 📅 DATE PLAYED: April 6, 2022 🎬 GENRE: Detective, Thriller 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 4.5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-4 ppl (ages 15+) 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 70 Mins. 💰 PRICE: €34 - €45/ pp (depending on group size) ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY There's an unsolved missing person's case for a young girl named Martha. The police have tried everything and searched everywhere. Martha's family is now turning to private investigators for help. This is where you come in... So far, all the evidence leads to a secret location in the center of Athens. After some investigating, someone confirmed that they saw Martha in the area. There is an abandoned clinic where locals have heard cries and noises coming from inside with flickering lights. This has to be the place... Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Without giving away too much, "Sin City Remastered" is one of the first escape room games that we had to do a bit of a scavenger hunt before starting the actual game. This was very different than anything we've experienced before as the setting is in the REAL world so it felt more real as well. We weren't sure if we're being "followed" or if anyone is actually "spying" on our actions and if what we were doing was correct or not. It definitely provided an extra sense of excitement. Once we entered the actual game, chills were definitely running down our spine as we actually felt like we were locked in by the bad guy and it's up to us to escape in time. The lighting and bloody props made us feel like we've entered a psycho doctor's office. We were surprised by the unexpected configuration of the space inside the "clinic". There's something lurking in the dark corners always that made us constantly looking for live actors to pop out but there are no live actors in this game. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The answers to the puzzles felt too easy. Some were literally given directions. It would be nice to see some multi-step or challenging puzzles. There were a good amount of prop usage like poster/newspapers but none were used in puzzles and can cause some red herring issues. One of the puzzles is going to be difficult for foreign players. Since the room is dim, it's going to be difficult to identify location with very small fonts. We suggest either identifying less or use a different puzzle method. We just asked our GM to skip this puzzle. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? The highlight of this room is definitely at the beginning. The storyline had a serial killer vibe to it reminiscent of classic films like "Se7en", "SAW", "Kiss The Girls", etc. In this story, no one knows what happened to the victim or if she's even a victim? Although we're exploring the premise, it felt as if we've been captured in the interim. "Sin City Remastered" provides a unique experience that really puts you in the driver seat of private investigator. The puzzles might feel too easy for enthusiasts. Some props also felt like it needs an update as this is one of the oldest rooms that Mastermind made. If you want to check out some of their newer games, MASTERMIND has (3) other locations in Athens. At this particular location, they have (2) other games available to choose from - "Follow The White Rabbit" and "Thomas Crown". ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO No parking Lobby with seating area with bathroom on the third floor Lockers available Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) - IdőCsapda (Time Trap) - "Magic - Prison of Wizards"
Location: Budapest, Hungary Videos/ Photos property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Date Played: 11/15/2019 Genre: Adventure, Magic, Fantasy Difficulty Level based on 2PPL: 5/10 Total # of Players: 2-6 PPL Length of Time: 75 Minutes Price: $54/Room Public/Private: Private Escaped? Yes 📖 THE STORY We were set on a mission to free one of the most infamous prisoner in the magic prison. On top of the many challenges of getting into the prison, we also had to watch out for the prison guard! We needed all the luck we could get… 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE There was a “special” entrance for this room to the prison that made our entire experience magical. This was only the second time we saw an escape room use this prop. The set design felt very movie-like. We liked how the characters were incorporated in the story again (for a more immersive feel, maybe projectors with a fog effect could reveal each of the characters in the prison cells). This room was pretty linear, but we didn’t mind it as much with just the two of us and each reveal connected closely with the next. The prison guard was a clever way of adding intensity to the story line. We felt more into the story and participating along side of “him”. This room had a much clearer storyline than “Chamber of Secret”. We knew what we had to do immediately and had it also had a strong finish. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One prop at the beginning had some tech issues. After multiple tries of placement, it finally worked. It may be worth it to check out the problem. We still felt like the “atmosphere” of the room should not play into the cleanliness of the props. There were still dust on things we’ve touched and that should be rectified. Although, we really enjoy the “special” entrance, it could also be hazardous to some players. We think maybe provide a safety measure at “the end” of it would be essential. Since this was a linear room, a large group might find it harder to sustain the 75minutes. Perhaps adding a few more puzzles or even searching elements just to create a “divide and conquer” feel would be ideal. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Once again, if you are a Harry Potter (which we are) or any sort of magic fan, you’ll enjoy this room. If you had to pick one of the rooms to try due to timing, we would suggest this one over “Chamber of Secret”. We loved the creativity behind this room and the story line was quite unique as well. You’ll probably never experience one of these designs anywhere else if you haven’t played hundreds of rooms. We suggest a smaller group for this room to have a better and fuller experience. 🔎 HINT Might be easier if you put it on. Additional Info Lobby with waiting area & lockers Street parking (we recommend public transportation) You'll need to walk down one flight of stairs to get to the lobby (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) - Escape Zone - Live Escape Game - "Star Wars"
Location: Budapest, Hungary Videos/ Photos property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Date Played: 11/15/2019 Genre: Sci-Fi, Fantasy Difficulty Level based on 2PPL: 7/10 Total # of Players: 2-6 PPL Length of Time: 60 Minutes Price: $7-14/PP (pending on the amt of ppl) Public/Private: Private Escaped? Yes 📖 THE STORY We were rebels and our mission was to free R2D2 from the dreaded Death Star and to deliver the space station plans back to our base. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE We were really impressed with the quality of the build on the R2D2 and Death Star props. They had built these in-house, but it felt like ones on the movie sets. The “spaceship feel” was enhanced by the fog effect and special lighting enhancements. Puzzles were unique and designed closely with the story line. We enjoyed that there were no hiccups throughout the play. The room presented a very logical and “wow” ending. The added on “difficulty” aspect within the puzzle solving was quite unique and fun to work around. We had an enjoyable moment feeling like we were actually maneuvering the spaceship and preparing for war. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Some added sound effects during play would enhance the space travel feel. One puzzle was quite difficult to visualize in the few steps that it looks for the solution. The props might need to be updated as some felt a bit worn out. This room was somewhat linear. In the case of a few puzzles, the ideal number would be 2 people due to the props that they could use. It would be great if they are able to add more nonlinear puzzles or search items just to keep the other teammates occupied. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? If you are a Star Wars fan or Sci-Fi lover, you must give this room a try. Normally, I’m not really into the whole Star Wars universe or Sci-Fi when it comes to escape rooms, but this one was really enjoyable that it made me want to watch the movie. I especially loved the memorable moments with R2D2 (it would’ve been cool if it could talk and was the clue giver. Am I asking for too much?). For this room our recommended size is 2-4people mainly due to the dimensions of the room. 🔎 HINT Remember the story line and the mission you need to complete. Additional Info Lobby with waiting area Street parking (we recommend public transportation) You'll need to go down a flight of stairs to get to the lobby (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) - PanIQ Szoba - "Saw, The Real"
Location: Budapest, Hungary Videos/ Photos property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Date Played: 11/16/2019 Genre: Horror, Suspense, Crime Difficulty Level based on 2PPL: 6.5/10 Total # of Players: 2-7 PPL Length of Time: 60 Minutes Price: $11.8/PP Public/Private: Private Escaped? Yes 📖 THE STORY We woke up in a semi-dark room. We don’t know how long we’ve been there. As we opened our eyes, the first thing that we saw was a dead body on the floor and a voice recorder. We pressed play and a distorted voice says: “I wanna play a game………. If your time is up, the gas will kill you all……. Let the game begin.” 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE As if the "SAW" movies weren't scary enough to watch at home, we were now put into an exact replica of the scene from the first movie. The props used were matched to a tee to the original "SAW" film. Unique self-hint system that was relatable to the storyline. The ambience felt more intense as the story developed due to the lighting change and feel on the design set. Since restraints were initially used, we liked how we had to work together to free ourselves prior to the start of the game. This made it felt like a real-life situation. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There was one puzzle that needed a tall person in order to see the clue. If I was placed there, I wouldn’t be able to see it (I’m 5-ft). It would be best if this could be re-designed or put somewhere a bit lower, so it suits all heights or have a stool inside the room to resolve this issue. Although the hint system was unique, we found at times it was confusing. There were a few clues on there we were able to figure it out on our own but when looking back at the hint system, it confused us. It was quite difficult for us to hear the audio hint for a puzzle. If the volume could be adjusted to a bit higher that would be great for players. Although we were also not sure why it would be coming out of there instead of somewhere more reasonable. A suggestion we have would be to add some music and occasional voice alerts from the killer would be able to add suspense to the room. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? PanIQ Szoba should not be confused with PanIQ the franchise. They are separate entities. PanIQ Szoba currently has 14 games available ("Saw, The Real" has an identical room that can be played in competition mode) at their location making them one of the largest escape room companies in Budapest! Most of their rooms are inspired by box office hit movies or recent trending shows. I’m sure you’ll be able to find something there to your liking! 🔎 HINT You need to look closely… Additional Info Lobby with waiting area Street parking (we recommend public transportation) You'll need to walk down one flight of stairs to get to the game (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) - ParaPark Escape Rooms - "Crime Scene '95"
Location: Budapest, Hungary Videos/ Photos property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Date Played: 11/16/2019 Genre: Suspense, Crime, Detective Difficulty Level based on 2PPL: 7/10 Total # of Players: 2-6 PPL Length of Time: 60 Minutes Price: $24-34/PP (pending on group size) Public/Private: Private Escaped? Yes 📖 THE STORY It was the 1990's in NYC. This was a period where gangs were flourishing and our partner Agent Walter Smith had gotten some evidence to put some of these bad people away. Suddenly, we got a call that there has been a shooting at his house. When we arrived, some corrupted cops have already started to look for evidence files and planned to destroy them. We must act fast and hopefully find what Agent Smith had left for us before they do! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE We felt like true detectives having to think of real-life solutions to deal with the current situation. We always enjoyed “think outside the box” puzzles. The clarity of what we had solved and what had opened was great in this game. We liked that all the puzzles involved some sort of correlation with crime solving (i.e. finger printing, shoe matching etc.…) The final puzzle gave us a “wow” moment. We liked how it wasn’t your typical “key lock” situation and the little twist was refreshing. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK We spoke about the sanitation issue before with Budapest escape rooms. The room should still look like a “finished” room with better conditioned props that were not dusty or felt dirty to touch. We understand maybe the set design for outside of the house needed a “rawer” look but the inside definitely needed a bit of touch up to feel more like a physical apartment. One prop had a “lit up” moment but didn’t have anything to reveal or opened anything. We found that somewhat confusing. It may be best to either take it out or actually use it for a clue. This is a suggestion we have for the venue: It would be great if the story or rules could be played on a TV or a shorter version could be told as the introduction by the game master was quite long. Maybe a printout of the rules could be handed out and the players could read it at their own speed and sign the disclosure after. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? ParaPark is a franchise with 14 locations currently worldwide. This location has great potential if the shared space outside would complete someday into a restaurant or bar area. Currently, it still feels like a construction zone. The room we tried felt more finished than the other rooms they have. The puzzles in this room were quite enjoyable but the venue space and set designs of the room need some improvement. 🔎 HINT There may be a “part 2”, check again… Additional Info Street parking (we recommend public transportation) You'll need to walk down one flight of stairs to get to the lobby Wear clothing & shoes that you don't mind getting dirty with *** This company has closed and the game has been bought by "Exit the Room" (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) - Nightmare In Budapest - "Horror Farm"
Location: Budapest, Hungary Videos/ Photos property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Date Played: 11/16/2019 Genre: Horror, Suspense Difficulty Level based on 2PPL: 5/10 Total # of Players: 3-8 PPL Length of Time: 60 Minutes Price: $8-12/PP (pending on group size) Public/Private: Private Escaped? Yes 📖 THE STORY We stumbled onto an abandoned farm only to find out that it’s not deserted at all. We were locked up by the “creatures” within and we only have 1 hour to escape! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE This is a unique concept we haven’t encountered before. The whole experience revolved around the actors and the immersive experience of us being captured and being told what to do than us freely coming up with solutions. The set design, lighting, customs on the actors and music were all on point. The actors were not there to create “jump scares” but more as “helpers” in the story. We enjoy these types of actors much more than the ones that are chasing you down and screaming at you while you’re trying to solve puzzles. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK This game felt more like an interactive play rather than a typical escape room. There were moments when if we did not ask for a clue, we would’ve not been able to know that the next clue or puzzle piece would be located. The actors would have to “guide” us to the next phase. There were a few times when we solved something but were not sure what we had opened. If a light or sound could point us to the right direction instead of the actors hinting us every time, it will enhance more on the self-experience. We didn’t feel like there were enough puzzles in the room, but we’ve also seen this in escape rooms in Rome, Italy before where most of the experience is build more like having you feel like you are actors in a movie versus heavily puzzle based. We just prefer the puzzle aspect in an escape room to feel fulfilled when we complete a room but that’s just our opinion. Certain puzzles or experiences were only able to be experienced or seen by one individual player. At times if they were not able to solve the puzzles assigned to them, we couldn’t really help them from the outside. So, we would have to wait till they free themselves. This could cause boredom with the players that were waiting. We also couldn’t experience what they have experienced. It was only at the end that we got a debriefing of what they were doing on their own. If the puzzle design could incorporate each player being able to experience it once during the game, that would be ideal. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? “Nightmare in Budapest” has a haunted house attraction and two escape games currently at its location. It’s quite amazing to have this space and the set design in the middle of the Budapest city area. We enjoyed the tour and you’ll be able to see the full video on our YouTube channel. For this game, we played with the actors that usually worked at their haunted house since a minimum of 3 players are usually required. If you are more into set designs and want to meet some amazing actors for a fun night of entertainment, give this place a try. You may find it disappointing if you are looking for puzzle heavy rooms though. Also, if you're feeling daring, give their “Burying Alive” escape room a try. You’ll be locked in a pitch-dark coffin (side by side with your partner) trying to solve puzzles in order to get out alive! 🔎 HINT Think “outside of the box”. Additional Info Lobby with waiting area & lockers Street parking (we recommend public transportation) Some players may need to go up and down a flight of stairs during the game (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) - E-Exit (Emergency Exit) Games - "Santa Muerte"
Location: Budapest, Hungary Photo above is property of e-exit emergency exit escape rooms Date Played: 11/17/2019 Genre: Adventure, Legend, Mythical Difficulty Level based on 2PPL: 9/10 Total # of Players: 2-6 PPL Length of Time: 60 Minutes Price: €8-€21/PP (pending on the amt of ppl) Public/Private: Private Escaped? Yes 📖 THE STORY We had to venture through the Garden of Good and Evil to eventually get to the Sombrero of Life. We needed the Lady of Bones’ protection on our side from the Saint Death. We have 60 minutes… 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The artwork in this room was amazing. The vibrant colors immediately made us feel like we were in the movie “Coco”. We enjoyed how they designed the “journey” forward. It felt like Disney ride as each scene opens its doors. The forest was well designed. A puzzle design offered a “Jumanji” life size board play feel which was new to us. The ending was definitely a “wow” moment. This is the third room we’ve seen that utilized this prop in the room design. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There was a delay in the interaction of a tech puzzle that we were trying to solve at the beginning. Some lights did not react even though we placed it on the right position. It would be great if they could double check on this. One puzzle at the end was challenging for me due to a height issue. I was unable to see the clues (I’m 5-ft). If they could either add a “tree stump” of some sort as a stool, this could be resolved. One puzzle took us a long time as it was quite difficult to visualize. I wonder how a player would ask for a hint on this. Would the game master have to come into the room? At one point I hit my head at an area in the latter part of the game. It would be great if that area could be padded as I’m sure some other players probably also might run into it. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This room gave us a “workout”. We were both sweaty by the end. The puzzles were definitely not easy. There were various types of puzzles like logic, physical, memory, visual etc... It was challenging with just the two of us. We escaped with only seconds on the clock. Our recommended size for this room would be 4 people and up. If you want to take up on a challenge in an amazing set designed room, Santa Muerte is a must try at E-Exit. 🔎 HINT Make sure they are perfectly aligned. - Mystery Lab - Escape Rooms Live - "Enigma"
LOCATION: Monastiraki, Athens, Greece Photo above is property of Mystery Lab Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Enigma 📅 DATE PLAYED: April 6, 2022 🎬 GENRE: War 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 7.5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-6 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 90 Mins. 💰 PRICE: €40 - €78/ pp (depending on group size) ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY It's World War II and you have just discovered that the German army altered their communication code using Enigma cryptographic machines. Top analysts from London have been struggling to decipher the code. You and your team of experts have been gathered to decode the Enigma machine. Are you up for the mission? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE This game's experience begins before you even enter the room. We were debriefed in an area called "The Training Area" by a general. He was in character right when we arrived and we even received a little test to see if we would qualify for the upcoming mission. The storyline for "Enigma" takes us back to WWII and really provided the experience of a top secret mission. Recruited as expert analysts specializing in decoding, added an extra sense of urgency. We definitely got the impression that the fate of the war relied on us. The dim lighting made us feel like we've entered into either a cave or bunker. The set design resembled a secret hideout with a bunch of old equipment from the 1940's. It's quite spacious and we each got an opportunity to search around and solve puzzles together and separately. The room was mostly linear but we thought that was appropriate given that there's a good amount of information to decode, it wouldn't really help if the other player came in something halfway. This game is a puzzle-lover's dream! There was a good amount to solve in this room (especially for 2 people). We encountered a variety of puzzle challenges that required different methods of decoding. There was one "activation" that we haven't seen before but it definitely spotlighted the "secrecy" feel of a "Enigma" room. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One thing we thought could help enhance the experience is for the a better confirmation system on puzzles that's been solved correctly. There was one puzzle we weren't sure if we had solved it and wasted some time on it until we confirmed it with our GM. As the room is quite spacious and we do have to travel back and forth from time to time, it's a bit difficult to be remember where the walkie-talkie ends up. Sometimes it's also not very clear. It would be great if a new type of "hint" system could be build in for easier access. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Before playing "Enigma", we heard that it's one of the most challenging games in Athens. After comparing to some of the other ones we've visited on this trip, this one definitely had the most puzzles. If you love challenges (especially if you have a smaller group), decode secret codes and feeling like a secret agent then you'll have a lot of fun with this game! It's not a high tech room but it fits the theme since it is staged to be in the WWII era. Mystery Lab has (2) locations in Athens. At this particular location (Chrysolora), they have (3) games available to choose from - "Requiem", "Asylum" and "Enigma" and the other one (Damokleous), they have a laser tag arena and (2) games available - "Lost Revised" and "Captain James Secret"! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Location is in a residential neighborhood. - E-Exit (Emergency Exit) Games - "Heaven & Hell"
Location: Budapest, Hungary Photo above is property of e-exit emergency exit escape rooms Date Played: 11/17/2019 Genre: Horror, Suspense Difficulty Level based on 2PPL: 8/10 Total # of Players: 2-6 PPL Length of Time: 60 Minutes Price: €8-€21/PP (pending on the amt of ppl) Public/Private: Private Escaped? Yes 📖 THE STORY We wanted to take a journey through heaven and hell. Of course, normally people will have to die first to experience this, but we were in luck. We were put into a state of hibernation, but we only have 60 minutes to get to our defibrillators or else we’ll be dead for real…. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Another fun and exceptional idea by E-Exit. We love the creativity they have on the storylines. The innovative ideas of “transporting” us through each space was accompany nicely by the scenery changes. The set design gave a nice contrast between heaven and hell. This was the first time we’ve seen this particular prop being used in an escape room. It made complete sense to the storyline and we enjoyed the “journey”. Later, we saw a similar concept in an escape room in the US, but E-Exit’s was executed way better in terms of the quality and ingenuity. E-exit liked to incorporate a lot of artwork on their walls which eventually became useful puzzle pieces. We enjoyed looking at them as they were amazing. One puzzle design in the latter part of the game felt like a maze box. We’ve never seen this before and enjoyed this crafty idea. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There were a few places in this room that needed some padding. I hit my head twice in this room at various locations. One particular puzzle was very dangerous since the resulting effect after the puzzle was triggered engaged on a prop being dropped from above. There were no signs to state that you shouldn’t be under it. This is quite dangerous for players. We suggest either a sign or some sort of padding incase this happens again. The ending part was confusing to us since we only had two players. We were not sure why we had to complete all of the puzzle components since it didn’t go with the storyline. Also, if it were more players than would there be more of “it” for each of the players? We think this part needs to be tweaked to go with the number of the players or just make one to symbolize it for all. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This room was still a linear game just like "Santa Muerte". The puzzles felt a bit easier here. The cool concepts of the puzzles and storyline are for any player who want to experience something totally different than the other escape rooms you’ve ever been to. We recommend a group of 2-3 people if you have experiences with escape rooms. If you play all of games that we’ve tried at E-Exit, let us know which one is your favorite? 🔎 HINT You have to activate all of them. Additional Info Lobby with waiting area & lockers Street parking (we recommend public transportation) Cash ONLY payment Most of the room will be played in dim lighting One flight of stairs to the lobby (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) - E-Exit (Emergency Exit) Games - "Secret Subway"
Location: Budapest, Hungary Photo above is property of e-exit emergency exit escape rooms Date Played: 11/17/2019 Genre: Adventure, History Difficulty Level based on 2PPL: 9/10 Total # of Players: 2-6 PPL Length of Time: 75 Minutes Price: €8-€21/PP (pending on the amt of ppl) Public/Private: Private Escaped? Yes 📖 THE STORY This room was inspired by a Jules Verne’s story. A forgotten inventor who built the very first metro in New York in 1870 went missing and we were on a quest to find him… 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE This set design was extraordinary. Right from the start, we noticed the quality on the props used. They were authentic metals that resembled engine part. You literally felt like you were in the basement in an engine room. The special effect was used at the right time. E-Exit was great at creating “wow” revealing moments throughout the game. We had jaw-dropping moment when we saw this particular “centerpiece” prop in the room. We did not expect what it was going to do. Let’s just say it was ALIVE! A “wow” ending seemed to be a “must-do” at E-Exit because they have done it again here. You never know where you’ll be exiting from an E-Exit game. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There were no clues on something we had to use repeatedly. Most of the time if we used a clue, we probably would put it on the side. It would be great if this could be mentioned to the player earlier. There was a puzzle during the middle of the game that was rather difficult to do with just two players. The hard part was the precision, but this could be their interpretation on the creation of a difficult level room. We had issues identifying some visual aspects of a physical puzzle in the latter part of the game. This wasted a lot of time and the game master also had to come inside the room to assist us. It may be great to get some second opinion on what color those are supposed to be as we initially thought they were an actual color, but they were just supposed to be “blank”. We are interested to see what E-Exit would do for their hint system when the players are stumped on these kind of puzzles. In an escape room, if you are stuck on a puzzle for more than 5 minutes, it feel like an hour. Most players would probably like to move on. For a better experience we think they can either “dumb” the puzzles down or have an option for players to bypass the puzzles. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? If you only have time to do one room at E-Exit, this is the game we recommend. This room took them more than one year to build and you can tell the amount of work that was put into the room. This is a difficult room which they have raised the time limit to 75 minutes. We were able to get out with just the two of us, but it was a struggle for sure. Our recommended team size for this room would be 4 people and up. 🔎 HINT You will use it more than once. Additional Info Lobby with waiting area & lockers Street parking (we recommend public transportation) Cash ONLY payment (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) You have no idea why you've been invited but as you walk down the narrow hallway to the front door, there's something lurking in the darkness... What could it be? What's hidden behind those doors? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Just like "The Bookstore", this game also had an amazing storyline. It was more emotional for us than "The Bookstore" as we felt the moral of the story at the end. The creator was able to explore a darker side of humanity through this experience. The set design and props were pretty much taken out from a real music school and placed into the game. Of course, there are other elements that you'll discover as the story changes. We can't really spoil too much here, but the plot definitely evolves. When it comes to the puzzle designs, Paradox Project never ceases to amaze us! We were faced with challenges that we've never encountered before and every single one of them required careful planning in terms of what the relevance was to the storyline. Sometime later on our Greece trip, we actually saw one of the props that were used in the game at a culture center. Understanding how the mechanism worked and how it was related to the game confirmed our belief on how much effort the creators put into designing their games. Our favorite part of "The Music Academy" was not being able to tell what's real and what's not. We were surprised several times throughout the game by either a puzzle or a secret compartment or a plot twist. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One part of the game was heavily based on observation and we did spend a good amount of time "searching". After reading the initial clue, we were mislead by how many items we had to find and how many things we were supposed to accomplish. That clue could be more clearly written for foreign players. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? After playing "The Bookstore" , we knew that Paradox Project was going to be incapable of disappointing us with any of their other games. Of course, we loved "The Music Academy" as well. This was yet, another brilliant performance. For "The Music Academy", we were joined by our good friend and creator of YouEscape, Nick. We were super happy to have help in this game as playing two 3-hour games back-to-back is definitely not an easy task. If you have a smaller group but still want to play this game, I would suggest emailing the owner to see what he can do for you, as he's a super nice guy. But if you're able to assemble a team, it's much more recommended as there's plenty to do in this game and lots of areas to cover. One thing I do like about their game design is that once you're in a new place, you rarely have to go back to a previous place (maybe once or twice we did), so there's not too much running back and forth. Even if they need you to do so, they'll provide you with easy access to the previous location. If someone asked us which game is our favorite, it's going to be very hard to choose. So why don't you just carve out a whole day, add a meal in between each game, and go play ALL THREE! I'm sure you'll have one incredible day! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Small lobby with seating area Merchandise available for purchase 5-10 Minute walking distance to their other location Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) - LogIQrooms - "System Overload"
Location: Budapest, Hungary Videos/ Photos property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Date Played: 11/17/2019 Genre: Adventure, Technology, Sci-Fi Difficulty Level based on 2PPL: 7/10 Total # of Players: 2-6 PPL Length of Time: 60 Minutes Price: $8-$17/PP Public/Private: Private Escaped? Yes 📖 THE STORY We were under attack and had to infiltrate the enemy headquarters’ computer to find out who the terrorists were and stop them within the hour! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE This was probably the most clever way we’ve seen old computer parts being applied in an escape room to various puzzle. The set design was limited due to the size of the room but there was no wasted space. Everything that could have be utilized was used. We were mostly focused on the centerpiece of the room than anything else since a lot of the puzzles revolved around it. The puzzles were unique and closely tied with the mission. They were very logical, and all the items had to be used in the room. We liked how some clues were “subtle” but made perfect sense. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK We did get an alert in the form of light when something opened as we solved a puzzle, but it was still time consuming to find out what had opened. If a sound or a better “releaser” could be installed on the drawers it would help with the “notice”. Some music could be added to the room for a more suspense atmosphere, especially towards the end. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? “LogIQrooms” is a local family operated business. The game we played is not for public booking yet as it's still going through the final stages of its beta-testing phase. I’m sure it’ll be available soon as we didn’t find much tweaking needed. Other than this room they have two others on site. This room is not really about the set design although we appreciated the design of the centerpiece (which ultimately became a game piece). But if you love puzzles and tech related subjects, you’ll enjoy this room. Our recommended size for the room is 2-3 people. 🔎 HINT You may have a slight advantage if you are a “techie”, but no outside knowledge is needed. - Paradox Project - "Paradox Project 2: The Bookstore"

But your curiosity got the best of you and here you are... I mean what's the worst that could happen here right? It's just a bookstore after all... Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE There's a really powerful storyline that went along with this game. When the creator has the ability to make a 200-minute room where every moment captured our attention is incredible. This ongoing 2-part series ("The Mansion" was the first one) had so many twists and turns, we were amazed at every "chapter". Each "chapter" has a different theme as well, so we felt like we've experienced multiple escape rooms in one setting. We haven't played many escape rooms where we can be our own "host" and start the game without being "checked-in" or even meeting anyone from the company. "The Bookstore" definitely gave us that opportunity to create this experience from beginning to end on our own. It definitely made the game feel a lot more realistic and at one point, we were so lost in the immersion that we weren't sure if we were finished with the game yet or still in it. The set design was just WOW WOW WOW! You would think the room felt overwhelming at first (anything you can think of in an actual bookstore is there and more!) but the creator was able to make only the items that were relevant to the game be accessible to the player. There were definitely times that we needed some nudging as some parts needed "out of the box" thinking but after discovering the answer, we were quickly "wowed" by the creativity and before we even had time to think about it, we were already transported to another chapter in the story. Since this is a 200-minute game, the creator cleverly designed a fully functional bathroom in the room. It didn't feel out of place like some of the other games we've been in because we were essentially... in a bookstore. The utilization of certain safety measures in the room was also carefully designed so that players can comfortably travel from one place to another (this game is pretty large so you'll definitely get your exercise in). The puzzles were so innovative and challenged us in so many different ways. "The Bookstore" really tests all aspects of your puzzle-solving abilities and allows you to be as creative as possible to progress. For the most part, this is a non-linear game so you and your team can split up. I do however like the fact that you will have to gather your team together every time there's an "intro" prior to the next chapter. This gave us a breather, but also forced all the players to catch up with the storyline rather than just the puzzles, since the story is equally important in this game. For two people, this was quite challenging. Even with a 3-hour time limit, we went over a bit. The owner is flexible in asking the team if they want a little rest during the half mark and if your team did go overtime, you'll still have a chance to finish the game (hence the 200-minute time limit). We really appreciated this mentality from the creator as he really wanted the players to enjoy the game as an art piece and not just an escape room. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK We don't have much to say about this section as "The Bookstore" is definitely one of our favorite escape rooms played this year. I mean we could still keep playing if it wasn't for the 3-hour time limit. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This room is a masterpiece. We can imagine how much hard work went into creating something like this. From tiny props that needs to be freshly prepared for each game to lighting/sound that has to happen at the exact moment something triggers it in the room, the game came alive right when the doors of "The Bookstore" closed. Even though we didn't play the first episode ("The Mansion"), the owner was nice enough to catch us up with the storyline so when we got there, we knew how the ending played out. It is not necessary to have the prior knowledge, but we strongly suggest playing them in order. Paradox Project has created one of the most cinematic escape room experiences that we've ever played. Even after the game, we could talk and feel the different parts of the game until this day. "The Bookstore" truly combines the best of both worlds in terms of storyline and puzzles and if the creator comes out with a 6-hour sequel (please do!), we'll literally fly back to Athens for this game! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO No parking Water and restroom is available inside the escape room (which is private for your experience) Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) - Exit The Room - "Madness"
Location: Budapest, Hungary Photo + Video property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Date Played: 11/17/2019 Genre: Suspense, Mystery Difficulty Level based on 2PPL: 6/10 Total # of Players: 2-6 PPL Length of Time: 60 Minutes Price: 2483Ft-3950FT/PP (pending on the amt of ppl) Public/Private: Private Escaped? Yes 📖 THE STORY We were disguised as volunteers to enter the professor’s lab. There has been reports of missing persons of the past volunteers and our real mission was to find out what had happened to them. Rumors were circling around stating that the professor was conducting harmful psychiatric research in the lab. We hope to get out alive to stop him from his evil doings! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE A good variation of types of puzzles. We were surprised at the amount of Math required in Budapest games in general. They are not extremely difficult but more complicated than the ones in the US. Surprise transformation of lighting in the latter part of the game was a nice addition to the story line. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK We didn’t sense the eerie feeling that the story was going towards with the set design. Even as the story developed, it still lacked the reveal of the main plot which was what the creepy processor was doing to his victims. Although the puzzles were not all searching in terms of physical items, there was still “searching” components in a lot of the puzzle designs. We were hoping for more connections of the puzzles with the story line rather than just “out of context” puzzles. The props of the room felt outdated and would be nice to get an upgrade. If dimmer lighting and sinister type of music could be added to the room, it would create more of the anticipated eeriness. One puzzle in the latter of the game was quite difficult for us to understand logically. We had to ask the game master to explain a few times to us (perhaps due to the language issue) to understand how to proceed. We like the transformation of lighting aspect of the room as mentioned above. It would’ve been nice to have a continuation on the surprise to have a solid “wow” ending. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? “Exit The Room” is a franchise with 16 companies currently (located in Austria-Hungary, Germany, United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia). This is the first “Exit The Room” location we’ve been to so we can’t compare it from a large scale. From the photos we’ve seen of this room on their website, we do see that the decoration of the room looks different in different locations. The main room definitely feels more eerie with the props and the set design in some of the other ones we’ve seen. It doesn’t seem like as a franchise they need to keep it consistent with different locations. Coming from the US, Budapest rooms are all very reasonably priced. If you are an enthusiasts looking to do a lot of rooms on a budget, then you have come to the right place. But if you are looking for amazing set design and quality puzzles, we feel that it felt short to some of the other locations we’ve been to. We still had fun solving the different puzzles in the room but didn’t leave with a fully satisfied feeling. Our recommended team size for this room would be 3 people and up mainly because it would be much easier for one of the puzzles however we did manage to escape with just the two of us. 🔎 HINT Don’t forget your PEMDAS. Additional Info Lobby with waiting area Street parking (we recommend public transportation) You'll need to go down a flight of stairs to reach the lobby (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) - TitKom.com - "Titkom (My Secret)"
Location: Budapest, Hungary Videos/ Photos property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Date Played: 11/17/2019 Genre: Horror, Dark, Fantasy Difficulty Level based on 2PPL: 5/10 Total # of Players: 2-6 PPL Length of Time: 90 Minutes Price: $9-19/PP (pending on group size) Public/Private: Private Escaped? Yes 📖 THE STORY You have 90 minutes to go through 5 different scenarios. The 1st room was designed around the movie “The Ring”. The 2nd and 3rd room were inspired by X-Files. The 4th room was a chaos room with no real theme and the 5th room was a murder mystery. All the goals were the same in every room: GET OUT! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The concept was very unique. We’ve never played an escape room that had this many rooms with each room being a different theme. The ending gave us chills as we uncovered it. Personalization aspect of certain puzzles was fun to discover during the play. We did enjoy some of the “jump scares” at the appropriate times. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK This room felt like random thoughts all meshed together. Although, the concept was unique, there was no storyline to connect them. Was it a person’s nightmare that he/she was trying to escape from? Then that person needed to be somehow incorporated into the puzzles of each room. There has to be a correlation. We spoke about the sanitation issue before with Budapest escape rooms. Even though the location has its eerie atmosphere, there should be a “finished” look on the rooms. We can’t be touching dirt on props or seeing hanging electric cords. Some Props also needed an update. Some solutions were too obvious and puzzles could have better designs since this game is a 90-minute game and we’ve finished quite fast with just the two of us. We suggest more puzzles or multi-step puzzles to be added to the room. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? If you like the creepy feeling, you’ll feel it before you even enter the escape room at “Titkom”. They are located in the basement of a building with unfinished construction (they intend to build more rooms there in the future). We think this could be fun for beginner escapers as the puzzles are not extremely difficult. Because the rooms were quite spacious, a group of 4 or more would fit comfortably. 🔎 HINT Did you dig deep and check everywhere? Additional Info Street parking (we recommend public transportation) You'll need to walk down one flight of stairs to get to the lobby The game will be played mostly in dim lighting Wear clothing & shoes that you don't mind getting dirty in *** We regret to inform this company has closed its doors *** Disclosure: We thank Titkom.com for comping our tickets for this game.
