  • Mystique Room - "The Time Machine"

Location: Budapest, Hungary Videos/ Photos property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Date Played:  11/18/2019 Genre: Adventure, Sci-Fi Difficulty Level based on 2PPL: 8.5/10 Total # of Players: 2-8 PPL Length of Time: 60 Minutes Price: $10-22/PP (pending on group size) Public/Private: Private Escaped? Yes 📖 THE STORY Dr. Clarence Guinan Donnolly finally successfully invented a time machine. Unfortunately, during the setup he stopped the time by accident. We needed to restart the time, so the town won’t have the be frozen forever! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The set design was absolutely beautiful. We felt like we stepped inside of a huge timepiece. The centerpiece of the room (which also acted as a finale “wow” moment) earned a lot of brownie points from us. I wonder how much light it took to power this room as everywhere we turned it looked “magical”. All the puzzles were well connected with the storyline and were quite unique. We really enjoyed the visual puzzle that involved us working together to open. We haven’t seen it done anywhere else. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One puzzle had a little delay in reaction even though we had the right answer. The game master had to step in to check for us. It would be great to double check to make sure there’s no issues going forward. This is more of a suggestion. Since we do see a lot of intricate designs of clock parts in the room, if there could be a few more physical puzzles involving tools to “restart” the clock, it would strengthen the storyline’s final mission. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? “Mystique Room” was one of our favorite escape companies on our Budapest tour. It was also the largest company with 11 games (2 games have 2 identical rooms for competition purposes). We took a sneak peek at their other rooms (you’ll be able to see a full tour on our YouTube video. They have an entire pirate ship!) and they were all amazing. If you ever visit Budapest, this is one location you don’t want to miss. 🔎 HINT Did you check the other side? Additional Info Lobby with waiting area & lockers Street parking (we recommend public transportation) You'll need to walk down one flight of stairs to get to the lobby Some players may need to climb a small flight of stairs during the game (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) • REMOTE: LOCKED ROOM Budapest - "Motel"

Photos provided by LOCKED ROOM Budapest Company: LOCKED ROOM Budapest Game: Motel Country: Hungary 🇭🇺 Language: English, Hungarian Type of Game: Remote Escape Room 🗣 Genre: Crime, Mystery Date Played: 4/29/2020 Difficulty (based on 5 players): 6.5/10 Size of Team: 2-6 players Time: 60 Minutes Price: €18.56 pp (2 ppl), €12.37 pp (3 ppl), €9.28 pp (4 ppl), €7.42 pp (5 ppl), €6.19 pp (6 ppl) We visited Locked Room in Budapest not long ago. They have some really amazing set designs for their rooms. We were very excited to see what "Motel" was going to be like. This was the second remote escape room we've tried. Our avatar was amazing. She was really in character and obliged to everything we've asked her to do (except the 50 push ups at the end). This was also the first time we saw two cameras being used. One camera was on the avatar and the other was angled towards the table with items we found (which essentially became our "inventory" list). Our team really enjoyed this as this was the first time we felt that we can work on different puzzles simultaneously. The puzzles were pretty linear but they added elements of "surprises" as we explored the rooms. With remote escape rooms, you can't do much on lighting since if it's too dark, the players can't see the puzzles. But if it's too bright you will lose the ambiance. We liked how Locked Room was able to salvage some of that by adding lights to areas we needed to direct our attention to (ie. when the safe popped after we solved a puzzle). Being that the company is in Budapest, the room rate are lower. This is a great opportunity to try this room with a group of friends. For €6.19 per person, that's less than a lot of digital games! *** This game can no longer be booked as a remote game but can still be booked as an in-person experience *** (If you do decide to try this experience, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) Disclosure: We thank LOCKED ROOM Budapest for comping our tickets for this game. Although a complimentary experience was generously provided, it does not impact our opinion on the review whatsoever. #AtHomeGames #EscapeRooms #LockedRoomBudapest #Motel #RemoteEscapeRoom #Avatar #budapest #ESCAPETHEROOMers

  • GAME OVER Escape Rooms (Greece) - "Jack The Ripper"

LOCATION: Egaleo, Athens, Greece Photo above is property of GAME OVER Escape Rooms Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Date Played: April 6, 2022 Genre: Detective Difficulty (Based on 2 PPL): 7.5/10 Total # of Players: 2-6 PPL Length of Time: 90 Minutes Price: €25/PP Booking Type: Private Escaped? Yes 📖 THE STORY The year is 1888. The London's streets have been terrorized by a murderer roaming around the neighborhood of Whitechapel. The locals are frightened and the streets are empty. The infamous "Jack the Ripper" has delivered a bloody letter to Scotland Yard antagonizing them. Inspector Charles Warren, lead investigator on the case has gone missing. You and your team of graduates from the Police College have been assigned to the case to find the Inspector and hopefully track down Jack the Ripper as well... Video above is property of GAME OVER Escape Rooms 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE This is a not an ordinary escape room. You'll feel as if you've entered a movie set right when you step foot inside the room. The eeriness of the night sky, the iconic red phone-booth in London and the emptiness of the streets took us into a cinematic immersion right away. Rather than "escaping", we were here to accomplish objectives instead: (1) find the inspector and (2) catch Jack the Ripper. The decision to implement a live actor in the room was utilized really well in this case as the actor knew exactly when to nudge us forward with the game and when to give us a chance to explore things on our own. Of course we did have a few jump scares, but it's nothing compared to their horror themed rooms. There are some interesting decision moments that were designed into the room making it feel more connected to the real world. There is no wrong or right answers, but you'll have to solve a "simpler" puzzle a harder way if you choose to go down another path. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One thing that I wish GAME OVER had offered in the game was better lanterns (especially when 75% of the game is played in dim lighting). Maybe the one we had that day just so happened to have a weaker battery. There was one object that had a sticker on it which we were instructed not to touch. However, it was to be utilized to solve a puzzle in the room. Also the object was quite high so we just assumed it's to be a visual aid and not to be touched. It would be great if this was indicated more clearly. Although the set design does have a stairs that leads up to an upper area, we wish they would have used that for another puzzle or an interactive area with the live actor. It felt wasteful for such a beautiful area to not really be utilized. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? "Jack the Ripper" is more of an immersive experience with a live actor rather than a traditional escape room with heavy puzzling. There are puzzles you can solve in the room but a lot of the time it does work hand in hand with the actor's nudging in terms of if it's the right time to progress onwards or not. There were times that we weren't sure if we had more things to do or not and just waited for a bit in the creepy streets. But that does also add into the element of feeling closer to real life situations than an actual game. The puzzle designs did involve a good amount of searching. But if you like the interaction with live actors, then you'll find this experience enjoyable. We really enjoyed our time with our inspector. He was witty and had a little dark sense of humor. If you are lucky to have Leonidas for your game, say hi for us! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Street parking available (be sure to read the signs) Lobby area with seating Live Actor Photos above are property of GAME OVER Escape Rooms Check out our interview with the owner to learn more about GAME OVER + an exclusive tour of their headquarters in Athens, Greece: (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) • REMOTE: 66 Minuten - Theater Adventures - "Showdown"

Photo provided by 66 Minuten - Theater Adventures Company: 66 Minutes - Theater Adventures Game: Showdown Country: Germany 🇩🇪 Language: English, German Type of Game: Remote Escape Room 🗣 Genre: Mystery Date Played: 3/3/2021 Difficulty (based on 5 players): 5/10 Size of Team: 1-6 Connections (Ages 13+) Time: 99 Minutes Price: €120 (1-3 connections), Each additional connection €15 🆃🅷🅴 🆂🆃🅾🆁🆈 It's time for the weekly recap meeting with Anti Schlabbeck Force (ASF). As the members went down the checklist, they discovered that the ending balance in ASF's account was not matching up. The ransom money from Elvira was not accounted for. They've decided to send in the new recruit, Agent Avaford, to search for the money... Video provided by 66 Minuten - Theater Adventures 🆃🅷🅴 🅶🅰🅼🅴 🅿🅻🅰🆈 We started the game in Zoom as if we're attending a Zoom call with the other members of ASF. It was quite refreshing as we haven't seen too many remote escape games start with character interaction and a heavy narrative. Once we got to meet our avatar (Agent Avaford) outside of Elvira's house, the game began. There were various tasks we had to do like get into the house, find certain objects, "interact" with other characters and ultimately finding that ransom money. The prerecorded videos were released usually after we've completed a certain task. They were pretty hilarious and we were surprised by some of the tasks that Agent Avaford had to complete. This game was paired with an inventory system called Telescape. It did help with being able to read some of the clues in larger context. There were also times that you might need to hear audio components over and and over again to capture the clues so we strongly suggest headphones for this game. One other thing to take note is that you'll need to call an international number during the game. One of our players was able to do so as he's overseas but I would suggest downloading WhatsApp or some other app that will allow you to call that number for free. I don't think any players would want to be charged for international calling. 🆃🅷🅴 🅿🆄🆉🆉🅻🅴🆂 The puzzles were designed to be like a detective's game. There were more searching and putting clues together to reveal something rather than your traditional escape room logic puzzles. You'll also feel more like you're part of a theatrical act. The interactions with characters were more of the focus with this game. Since there were a good amount of clues embedded in video messages, we did have a bit of an issue understanding a few since they're translated from German and perhaps the terminology was not exactly what we would call it in the English. Since this game was designed to be an online game only, they did a great job with eliminating physical puzzles that we couldn't interact with. 🅲🅻🅾🆂🅸🅽🅶 🆃🅷🅾🆄🅶🅷🆃🆂 This avatar game was quite different than your ordinary remote escape game. It was more like a theater production. The game master in the backend was controlling when to play the prerecorded videos, muting zoom for players, bringing the camera back to the avatar, playing music when entering into the next scene and more! It's hard to imagine that there's only one person behind all of this but he was able successfully put on a great show. Agent Avaford was also great at acting as a timid and amateur agent. There were a lot of funny moments but I think it would've been even funnier in German! 𝔼𝕊ℂ𝔸ℙ𝔼𝕋ℍ𝔼ℝ𝕆𝕆𝕄𝕖𝕣𝕤❜ ℙ.𝕀.𝕤❜ 𝕋𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕘𝕙𝕥𝕤 Matt L. & Jess A. - We were really impressed at how seamless the transitions between live and video footage were, it gave the impression of a much bigger production. - Puzzles could have been a little more difficult, there wasn’t as much to solve as there was stuff to find. - Avaford did a good job of helping without telling us what to do - The plot point in the latter part of the game was a little bit confusing at the start, we weren’t fully sure how it factored in until we saw the secret reveals later on. - It is worth recommending that players use two screens so that they can see the “live action” and the reference materials at the same time. - all in all we really enjoyed this experience, and we will definitely check them out again if we ever go back to Berlin ______________________________________________________________ Koen D. Pro's: - Great actor video's for zoom (at first I thought they were all live actors) - Good video quality - Nice interaction with the host and environment - Great nudging into the right direction if we got a bit stuck - Great storyline and character development Con's: - Sometimes a bit harder to play with a single screen (If you do decide to try this experience, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) You have very comfortable waiting rooms and the customer service is excellent! The set of the room is very well designed, for an immersive experience. Puzzles are very logical and intuitive, they are not very hard and you will keep a dynamic pace throughout the game with a very nice finishing adrenaline rush! 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The game difficulty might be a bit hard for real beginners, but they can still play with no hesitation as they will be nicely helped by the game master without being frustrated by receiving hints. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This venue is one of the best in Paris, and they currently have 6 rooms. "Très cher Lock" is not the best they have, but if you come to Paris to play, I would still recommend you to play them all in this place as they are all top quality rooms. Professor Lock is counting on his best students (YOU!) to try to solve the mystery behind this murder, find the motive, the murder weapon and the culprit (like in a Cluedo game). Video above is property of Lock Academy Paris 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE This is definitely one of the best Venues in Paris to play an escape room: the game masters are very well trained and you really feel that they love what they do. You have very comfortable waiting rooms and the customer service is excellent! The set design is high quality, very immersive!. Puzzles are well thought out and intuitive, with nice mechanics. The room is non-linear and to get out, you will need to solve the crime! 🧩 MISSED THE MARK As this room has been one of the very firsts to be opened at this venue, it may look a bit less immersive as compared to the most recent ones, but still very efficient if you are looking for a nice moment with your friends! 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This venue is one of the best in Paris, and they currently have 6 rooms. I would recommend that you play all the games at this place as they are all top quality rooms. If you like solving mysteries and feeling like a real detective, you will enjoy it! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Underground parking (14 rue Crois des Petits Champs, be careful, this option is pretty expensive) There are metro stations nearby (M1, 4, 7, 11 and RER A, B and D) Lobby is very spacious, try to not be too early but even if you are, there are lots of spots where you can sit, wait and enjoy free candies and free drinks Toilets are available and very clean You may have to use stairs to get access to the room They try their best to accommodate the room so people with disabilities can still enjoy the experience. • THE GAME - "Le Cinéma Hanté"

LOCATION: Paris, France Photo above is property of THE GAME Date Played: November 25, 2021 Genre: Paranormal Activity Difficulty (Based on 3 PPL): 5/10 Total # of Players: 3-5 PPL (Ages 16+) Length of Time: 60 Minutes Price: €27-€35/PP (pending on team size) Booking Type: Private Escaped? Yes (40 Min) 📖 THE STORY The famous moviemaker Harry Burg who did the movie “Haunted Cinema” 30 years ago is coming back with a remake and you have been invited to the first unofficial release as a horror movie aficionado! But you quickly realize that something wrong is going on as soon as you enter the theatre… Video above is property of THE GAME 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE THE GAME is a venue well known for their immersive sets and this one is really good! You have real theatre seats and movie-based elements almost everywhere. Riddles are easy to understand and we know what to do quite fast. The soundtrack helps getting into the mood and adds up to the menacing atmosphere. This room doesn’t count on jump scares or gory effects to instill fear in players, it mainly plays on the autosuggestion, which is a different experience as compared to traditional scary rooms 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Some puzzles are similar so you may find it a bit repetitive and not fully integrated to the story, the actions we perform sometimes are not natural as compared to where we are supposed to be unfortunately 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This room is still very enjoyable despite the few drawbacks listed above, by the set design (all the rooms at THE GAME are worth doing just with their sets) but also the stressful atmosphere! If you like horror/gory rooms with jump-scares and actors torturing you, pass. Otherwise, have fun! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO No parking (in Paris it’s pretty difficult to find a spot to park, usually I don’t recommend to use cars) There are metro stations nearby (M4, 10 Saint-Michel Notre Dame) Pregnant women, people with physical disabilities and people suffering from epilepsy cannot play this room unfortunately There is a small lobby and you will be offered drinks if you need. First step: arrive in Molly Town, in a saloon and find out where to go! Video above is property of THE GAME 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE You really feel like you are in the far west! A lot of efforts were made to build the set, and the result is just amazing! The full experience is really entertaining, nice paced with very fun interactions and moments with the Game master You easily see your progression towards the game, what you still need to do and that’s very appreciated The puzzles and mechanisms are newbie-friendly and very funny to do and solve 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The only “negative” point that we could mention is that some actions/puzzles don’t perfectly fit with the theme/story and sometimes you do things that you wouldn’t naturally do in such real life situations 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? If you want to spend a nice moment with friends, without thinking too much and go back in time, this adventure is for you! The fact that the puzzles are not complicated makes you enjoy the room even more as you can really get into roleplay and pretend to be a real cowboy for 60 minutes! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO No parking (in Paris it’s pretty difficult to find a spot to park, usually I don’t recommend to use cars) There are metro stations nearby (M4, 10 Saint-Michel Notre Dame) Pregnant women, people with physical disabilities and people suffering from epilepsy cannot play this room unfortunately There is a small lobby and you will be offered drinks if you need. You will have to prove yourself worthy by succeeding in various challenges that await you in a very old dungeon. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The set is pretty convincing and well-decorated, good immersion The scenario is coherent with the actions you do and puzzles you solve The puzzles are diverse and original and you can solve several of them simultaneously (good for big groups) Nice game mastering, with passionate people, very involved in making you live a pleasant adventure Very fun ending! 🧩 MISSED THE MARK During the game, you will have to make some choices, that don’t have any impact in the end. But it doesn’t really remove the fun of it. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? If you like history, knights, crusaders and action, then definitely visit Le Donjon and give "Les derniers Templiers" a try! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO No parking (in Paris it’s pretty difficult to find a spot to park, usually I don’t recommend to use cars) There are metro stations nearby (M3, 5, 8, 9, 11 République) Some elements in the room may be difficult for some people if they fear closed and small spaces Pregnant women, people with physical disabilities and people suffering from epilepsy cannot play this room unfortunately There is no lobby, a butler will come to meet you in a specific place outside, you will get the information by email Toilets are available Stairs needed to get access to some rooms Photos above are property of Le Donjon (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) #AlexandreTang #IRLescaperoom #EscapeRooms #Cowboy #Adventure #LeDonjon #France

The man lives in an old and mysterious manor, a bit far from civilization and it has been told that very few people actually came back from this place. The “Earl” can’t wait to meet you in person… 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The biggest asset in this escape room is the immersion: there are several big rooms to explore and discover and some secret places! Plus, the set tries to bas as faithful as the novel it takes inspiration from (no spoiler, you will discover it during the game). Some dim lights add even more to this “strange” atmosphere. You may have some jump-scares, the game mastering is very good. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK It was a bit hard to clearly follow the storytelling, you know you have to run and escape from this place and the puzzles are hints for what you need to do but it could have been even better if they were well integrated to the story 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? If you are not a hardcore gamer, want to have fun with friends or a newbie, I suggest trying "L'Immortel" for your first experience! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO No parking (in Paris it’s pretty difficult to find a spot to park, usually I don’t recommend to use cars) There are metro stations nearby (M3, 5, 8, 9, 11 République) Some elements in the room may be difficult for some people if they fear closed and small spaces Pregnant women, people with physical disabilities and people suffering from epilepsy cannot play this room unfortunately There is no lobby, a butler will come to meet you in a specific place outside, you will get the information by email Toilets are available Stairs needed to get access to some rooms Photos above are property of Le Donjon (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) #AlexandreTang #IRLescaperoom #EscapeRooms #Horror #Escape #LeDonjon #France

LOCATION: Paris, France Photo above is property of The Escape Agency Date Played: January 23, 2023 Genre: Action, Adventure Difficulty (Based on 4 PPL): 4/10 Total # of Players: 2-6 PPL (Ages 15+) Length of Time: 70 Minutes Price: €21-€48/PP (pending on team size) Booking Type: Private Escaped? Yes (52 Min) 📖 THE STORY The Agency has called you back for a very important mission, even if you are supposed to have retired some time ago. As a matter of fact, you are the only available agents experienced enough to avoid a nuclear disaster: an old URSS command center got reactivated and is about to launch all its nuclear missiles in strategic places around the world! There is no time to waste! Luckily, there is one secret bunker used by the URSS in Paris during the cold war that you can use in order to deactivate the nuclear program. The world is counting on you! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The theme is pretty common but The Escape Agency managed to play their cards beautifully: the puzzles and mechanisms are well integrated to the set and the story for a better immersion and a good climax at the end of the game! You can feel the adrenaline and excitement at the finish line! Riddles are pretty intuitive and easy to understand except maybe one that needs more thinking. There is a pretty good use of the space available (in Paris, rooms are much smaller than in other countries overall due to the high price of the field, so people must be creative). There is a good variety of puzzles and that requires different skills: observation, search, logical thinking, coordination and you can do several in parallel so you can split your team if needed for a better efficacy. The game mastering is good and the storytelling is well done. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Maybe the theme is a bit too classic if you are used to play a lot of escape rooms (nuclear explosion incoming, save the world and so on), but it is well built in my opinion. One puzzle may be improved a bit as it is less intuitive as compared to all the rest, it may be puzzling (pun intended) especially for beginners. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? It is a very well designed room but pretty classic as compared to the newest ones released so far, so if you are experienced and have played tons of rooms around the world, you won’t be amazed but overall, it’s still a very nice room! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO No parking (in Paris it’s pretty difficult to find a spot to park, usually I don’t recommend to use cars) There are metro stations nearby (M4, 8 and 9 to "Strasbourg Saint Denis" station or M5 to "Jacques Bonsergent" station) You need to use stairs to reach the starting room so unfortunately, people with physical disabilities cannot play the room. For pregnant women and people with epilepsy it should be fine but don’t hesitate to call them first (you will need to do it anyway to ask to play the room in english, otherwise it will be set up for french by default) There is a small lobby and you will be offered drinks if you need. You can relax on a couch or chairs if needed Toilets are available Photos above are property of The Escape Agency (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) #AlexandreTang #IRLescaperoom #EscapeRooms #Adventure #Action #War #TheEscapeAgency #France

  • Le Donjon - "L'Alchimiste"

LOCATION: Paris, France Photo above is property of Le Donjon Photos above are property of Le Donjon Date Played: July 21, 2023 Genre: Magic Difficulty (Based on 3 PPL): 4/10 Total # of Players: 2-6 PPL (Ages 12+) Length of Time: 60 Minutes Price: €29-€55/PP (pending on team size) Booking Type: Private Escaped? Yes 📖 THE STORY You and your friends have been called by a famous alchemist in order to help him create the philosopher’s stone so he can revive someone he loved. He promised to teach you everything he knows about this secret art if you succeed. Do you trust him enough for this? Video above is property of Le Donjon 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The set is very well decorated: you have tons of elements that are in line with what you would expect to find in a wizard’s den and you will interact with lots of them to solve puzzles. Some nice “Wow!” effects after the completion of some puzzles are very welcome and entertaining, it helps to keep a good pace during the session. The game mastering is very well done: you will have to interact with a character at some point to move on, a bit of role play is always fun. There is a pretty good diversity in the mechanisms involved in this room and they are pretty intuitive. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK This room is a bit linear so I would recommend maximum 4 players, especially if you are experimented, otherwise you might be a bit frustrated for not doing much (also some rooms are a bit narrow for 6 people). The backstory is not very convincing/ rich, but it’s easily forgivable as soon as we start the room, and the game mastering is good. There is quite a lot of reading, that may be a potential drawback for some people who would favor more “action time”. Unfortunately, this room is only available in french, but they are working on it for the english version. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This escape room is still very decent to play, even if nowadays there are quite some top notch escape rooms in Paris. If you are more into exploration, and contemplation and want to have an adventure at your own pace, with a bit of magic, you can try this one! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO No parking (in Paris it’s pretty difficult to find a spot to park, usually I don’t recommend to use cars) There are metro stations nearby (M3, 5, 8, 9, 11 République) Pregnant women, people with physical disabilities and people suffering from epilepsy cannot play this room unfortunately: there are sometimes narrow passages and light effects. There is no lobby but if really needed, toilets are available (they do not offer this spontaneously as it will take you out of the immersion, the game mastering starts in the street actually, before entering the building) This game is currently only offered in French Photos above are property of Le Donjon (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) #AlexandreTang #IRLescaperoom #EscapeRooms #Magic #LeDonjon #France

  • The ONE Escape - "Chemical Hallucinations by Dr. Grant"

LOCATION: Paris, France Photo above is property of The ONE Escape Date Played: November 14, 2023 Genre: Heist Difficulty (Based on 3 PPL): 5/10 Total # of Players: 2-6 PPL (Ages 12+) Length of Time: 60 Minutes Price: €28-€52/PP (pending on team size) Booking Type: Private Escaped? Yes 📖 THE STORY The famous Dr Grant recently succeeded in creating a new compound that can enhance people’s IQ. You and your friends see this as an opportunity to make a lot of money quickly, the only thing you need is to enter his lab and steal the compound. Easy task, right? Unfortunately, Dr Grant is as twisted as he is smart so this won’t be that easy. Be prepared to face many traps and avoid neurotoxic chemicals while attempting this heist! Video above is property of The ONE Escape 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The set is pretty immersive and relatable to the laboratory landscape. Globally, the interactions with the different items needed to solve puzzles are in line with the theme and pretty intuitive. No padlock, only mechanisms to play with! Some effects are used to mimic hallucinations due to the neurotoxin trap set by Dr Grant and it’s pretty cool overall. Your team can perform several tasks simultaneously, which is very welcome with large group of players. The last puzzle is very well designed for co-op. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The pace of the game is well designed as we regularly see/experiment new “feelings” due to the hallucinations. Other than that, the puzzles are pretty common in the end. The scenario is a bit light, there is no real backstory. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Overall, it’s a very nice experience, and the way the creators built the room to make us feel like we are hallucinating is well done. The effects we experience are going crescendo and the finale leaves us on a good note. Would definitely recommend it. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO There are some parking spots 200m from the venue, but usually I would strongly recommend to move in Paris using public transportation, way more convenient (you can access the venue with the Metro Lines 3, 4, 8 and 9 ("Reaumur-Sebastopol" station or "Strasbourg Saint-Denis" station). Pregnant women and people suffering from epilepsy cannot play this room unfortunately. For people with physical disabilities, it may be difficult to access as you will need to take stairs to reach the room, and you will need to be with at least one person with no disability for some manipulations in game. If you want to make sure you can play the room, you can call them to check (Tel: +336 33 47 54 67 or +339 75 90 83 68). There is a small lobby and you will be offered drinks if you need. You can relax on a couch or chairs if needed. • REMOTE: The Box Escape Games - "The Diamond Heist"

Photo provided by The Box Escape Games Company: The Box Escape Games Game: The Diamond Heist Country: France 🇫🇷 Language: English, French Type of Game: Remote Escape Room 🗣 Genre: Heist Date Played: 7/30/2020 Difficulty (based on 4 players): 7/10 Size of Team: 2-6 Players Time: 75 Minutes Price: €80-120 Video provided by The Box Escape Games Today is the day that we execute our plan to rob the impenetrable Diamond Center. Good thing we have Bob, our henchman in the field to help us. We have only 75 minutes to steal as much as we can before the cops arrive! We received an email with an intro video and a link to the inventory portal. Bob gave us an overview of how to use the portal and where the 4 cameras will be situated. He was in to his character right away. We enjoyed the random jokes and subtle hints he gave to move the game along. There was one point where we thought he could just streamline the searching process as there was an item we would've never been able to find on our own. Our favorite avatars from previous games we've played were ones that would think and act like they were the actual players in the room. We think having the avatar search automatically is very important at keeping the game flow. There was a lot of information that were given to us throughout the game. Besides the 4 cameras (we only used one for the entire game so not sure if its necessary to have that many. But since they don't have a 360 view of the room, it might help some players to visualize better), we also had a lot of photos, documents, websites and social medias to go through. We gave some suggestions to the company to eliminate items that were unnecessary to the game since it was creating too much red herrings and was making it hard to follow at times. Our favorite parts of the game was when we had think like the robber and what would he do or use in this particular situation. The ending was the highlight of the game. You'll definitely want to save as much time as you could from the beginning of the game as you'll need it at the end. It definitely helped to have more teammates as well. We think 4 would be the ideal number for this game. We all felt the urgency at the end. My palms were sweaty trying to calculate the final puzzles and of course my pen had to run out of ink at that moment! We ended up missing just one prize from a perfect heist! This game felt like a hybrid of a digital game and a remote escape room. We enjoyed the concept of having the players explore and investigate in the outside world to create a complete story with the escape room itself. It felt more like a real spy or detective. If the company would be able to incorporate an automated inventory system rather than sending the items over on Google Drive (as it was a bit slow and times and we had to refresh every time), it would make the game flow much better. We love heist theme games and this one definitely was a lot of fun to challenge. If you think you are up for the heist of the century, Bob is waiting for you to hire him for the next job! *** This game can no longer be booked as a remote game but can still be booked as an in-person experience *** (If you do decide to try this experience, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) Disclosure: We thank The Box for comping our tickets for this game. Although a complimentary experience was generously provided, it does not impact our opinion on the review whatsoever. #ESCAPETHEROOmers #AtHomeGames #EscapeRooms #TheBox #TheDiamondHeist #RemoteEscapeRoom #Avatar #Heist #Comedy #Adventure #Espionage #Hacking #spy
