This little town was very charming and they always have parades or street fairs. We didn’t have any issues parking here on the streets since it was nighttime but during the day this could be a bit challenging since it’s a commercial area. Electric City Escape is located inside the old electricity building. The building has a really cool façade and there’s tons of history there. When we went close to the outside window of the escape room, we can see people playing an actual escape room inside! This was the first time we saw a live escape room on display for pedestrians to watch and interact with the players. This was their “Escape the Doctor’s Study” room which could accommodate large parties up to 16 people. It was a great way to “welcome” people into their venue. The lobby was very spacious with a waiting area full of puzzle games. The Christmas lights in the hallways really added a nice touch, making you feel at home. The first room we tried there was the “Escape the Final Act: The Houdini Experience”. We’ve done many magic-themed escape rooms before and although the theme is mesmerizing, it’s pretty difficult to accomplish the design aspect of it. We can’t wait to see the secrets this room will “reveal”. Lucky for us, we were invited by the Great Houdini after his act to meet him in the auditorium. But someone lock the door behind us and we needed to find a way out before we became the final act! As we entered the room, the first thing we saw was a familiar equipment used by a lot of magicians. It would’ve been interesting to see that being utilized more into a puzzle rather than a “hiding” element.  There were a few confusing designs in the puzzle aspects. One lock was not an actual puzzle piece but was used to lock one of the props. Our suggestion is to label it as “not in play” as it was confusing why we didn’t have to open that at the end. We were also able to bypass a section of the game somehow. I wonder if the puzzles could be tweaked so that this wouldn’t happen. In the latter part of the game, lights were cleverly used but one had something to do with the puzzle, the other didn’t. It would be great if it could be used more consistently. Overall, the puzzles stuck with the theme of the room and we had a lot of fun. We would love to see the sequel to this room as the owners already have concept ideas for it and we hope to see a more secret “revealing” aspect of a magic-themed room as those are the precious “wow” moments. Our recommended size for this room is 3-4 people. We had a good amount of time left escaping with just the two of us. We are now ready to tackle the second room here - “Escape the Coal Mine”. The event happened in Mine #109. As we were about to leave for work from the mine at the end of the day, a large explosion sound occurred. We think it was because the mine boss doesn’t want us to be discussing the Shenandoah Bridge plot at Molly Maguires’ home tonight and wanted to trap us in. We must find a way out through the Dead Rock Run before methane consumes our lungs in an hour. The set design of this room was on point. You immediately felt like you were inside of a coal mine with the dim lighting, cave-like rock formations, and real metal fences. The added sound effects and music ambience was also a great contributor to the immersive atmosphere. We had a little bit of a hard time at the beginning of this game as some clues were a bit hard to see with the dim lighting so make sure you look at everything carefully. We liked how the tools were implemented as part of the puzzle designs as it made the game feel a lot more real. You would need to pace yourself for this game as there’s still a lot to do ahead. We would’ve liked to see more of a disbursement in terms of utilization on a “puzzle center” in the latter room. It would be great if some puzzle locks or puzzles could be on other sections of the room since the room was quite spacious. This would also help to spread the group if there’s a larger amount of people. Our recommended size for this room is 3-4ppl but 2 people can definitely manage the room as we escaped with some time remaining. We are very excited for Electric City Escape's new room - "Luna Park" to be released as it is currently being constructed. All we can say is that it’s a circus-themed room. We only have an hour before the park closes to find the treasure! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The room was full of vibrant colors. Suddenly we were young kids again and wanted to play with everything that we saw. The set design reminded me of a fun carnival. Most of the items were bolted down (if not used) which cleared away any red herrings. Music was a great add-on to the fun atmosphere in the room. Props used were all in line with the story setting. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Didn’t really feel much of a story line through the puzzles. It would be great to incorporate a bit more of that within the puzzles themselves. Most of the puzzle elements felt a bit too direct and revealing with the answers. We actually felt like this room is much easier in comparison to the other rooms we’ve tried there. Would have been nice to see some implementations of real carnival games in there that we can “play” to receive an “award”. There was a confusing component in the latter part of the gameplay that we thought had something to do with a puzzle because of the coordination but it didn’t. The ending could have had a bit more of a “wow” moment for the treasure reveal. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? If you like carnivals, lights, and games then you’ll love this room. The puzzles are straight forward so it’s easily doable with 2 people. They have already raided this bunker once, so we think it’s safe to use it to strategize our next attack. We hope to keep our team safe and move out of here with a plan ASAP! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE There were definitely elements of a bunker feel when you first enter the room. The paint colors made the room feel “ashy” and worked well with the atmosphere of the room. Really enjoyed a cool piece of the ending puzzle that we’ve never seen before. It was a nice add on to the finish. Many fun variations in the puzzle designs. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The lobby needs to finish in terms of renovations. It would be great to touch up the outside of the escape room with some decor to make the bunker feel. If the ceiling could be covered, it would bring the immersion level up a step. Also, the outside noise aspect would be fixed as well since it could act as soundproofing. Some weapon noise and war time music could add more suspense to the game. We did not complete a puzzle yet, but it already triggered something to open. Perhaps it’s best to place the last piece that has the trigger for the mag lock at the end so an early reveal would not happen. A wording of a puzzle was a bit confusing since a specific word could have another meaning. Maybe it’s best to change that to avoid the red herring element. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Mind Warp is a fairly new escape company. We think the rooms are well priced for what it has to offer. There’s definitely potential for them to get better at the set design and the immersive level in the near future. If you have not tried an escape room before, this could be something you can attempt as your first escape room. There are some puzzle components in there that could be very useful for your future explorations. The puzzles are not too difficult, but it does help to have a larger size group since there should be a designated search team. It was hard for two of us to “see” some things and had to use a clue. 🔎 HINT It may help to try to go vertically up.  Try not to let the edges touch. There was plenty of parking right outside the facility. The lobby/ waiting area was extremely spacious and clean with a lot of seating available! We were fortunate enough to meet with 2 of the 3 owners - Marisa & Skylar to learn more about the company. Expedition Escape! - Escape Room currently has seven rooms available to choose from at their Montgomeryville location and four rooms at their King of Prussia location. Today we are trying "The List" (now re-titled "Santa's Workshop") room which normally has a recommended number of 6-8 players. As soon as we entered, we were transported to The North Pole! There were toys EVERYWHERE and the room design was cleverly constructed. The intro video was quite funny and set the tone for the room. The puzzle challenges made sense for the most part. Some we felt could've required a little bit more of a challenge as opposed to it being right "there". For experienced players, this might be a bit on the easier level for you. Overall, the room itself was extremely entertaining and immersive. We got to take a quick peek at some of the other rooms and their level of quality remained consistent throughout. We can't wait to return to try their other rooms and location. ** Please note: all the games currently at this location were originally owned by Expedition Escapes! and now acquired by Amazing Escape Room. They are exactly the same. The owners are currently talking about revamping some of the rooms and a new game has already been added! We were fortunate enough to meet with the owners to learn more about the company. Xscape The Room is located inside of a shared WeWork-type space and not only is the lobby really well designed... it's HUGE! There's couches, pool tables, a kitchen area, and a dining table available for you while you wait for your game to start. They currently have four rooms available and we are trying their newest room - "Motherboard". On their website, they specify that the "Motherboard" room is the only one that is not handicap accessible as it is a 2nd floor walk-up. Overall, everything about this room was great! The puzzle designs (both technological and traditional), storyline, concept, etc. There were many different puzzle variations and creative challenges that we haven't seen before. The one thing that we felt could've made it a little bit immersive is the lighting/ decor. Since we are part of a resistance infiltrating a company, we thought it would be a little bit dimmer and require the use of flashlights since we were "breaking in". All props used were relevant to school. We love the big black board as our notepad. It really “helped” me with the Math question. Different school subjects were incorporated into various puzzles which made it fun to discover. We felt the nerves as time was running out. I’ve never failed any class before and was certainly not prepared to do so now. We enjoyed having to “piece” together things to complete a “picture”. One of the players thought she “made a boo boo” when she found something, but it was an actual puzzle element. We really enjoyed the “surprise” facial expression. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK A math puzzle we had was a bit confusing as it could be read both ways. It would be great if it could be indicated with which side is up. I took a long time looking at it the other way and it did not make sense. There were too many “repetitive” hints for one of the puzzles and it actually made it more confusing as we didn’t know If we needed to use all of them or not. Some props could use a bit of an update. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? We were joined by a family of 4 for this game. We had fun giving some of our “escape room advices” and letting them open the locks. This room actually had some challenging puzzles even though on the surface it seemed “kiddish”. Our recommended group size would be 4-6 people. As we entered the local saloon called “Bugsy’s Juice Joint”, we had a lot of mystery to discover. Since Bugsy was away, we have an hour to find his loot and be out of there before he comes back… 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The set design for this room was beautifully done. As soon as we entered, we felt transported back in time to 1920's era. From the piano to details on the bar, no expense was spared into making this look like a movie set. The logical and physical puzzles were really creative and different. Some we haven’t seen before in other escape rooms. Although we usually don’t like to have a game master in the room with us during the game, the character play for the story line didn’t bother us much for this one. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK A clue was incorrectly associated with the answer on a lock. It would be great to get a few opinions on it and change the lock answer to match with the clue given. We were able to get it at the end by trial and error. There were a lot of “finding” components in this game. One particular hiding spot, we felt, would be impossible to find without a clue. Some music would be great to add some ambience to the room, especially as we get closer to Bugsy’s return. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This was a pretty challenging room for the two of us. There was a lot to do and a lot to find. Our recommended group size for this would be 5-6 people. We’ve done a good amount of speakeasy rooms and this one probably is the best one yet. "Xscape The Room" currently has 5 games at 2 locations. We’ve tried 4 of them and really liked them all for different reasons. This is not an easy task as there are many “traps” that lies ahead. We hope we’ll be able to get out in time. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE We entered a room that looked like a foyer to a mansion and were immediately absorbed into the story. The space did give the estate feel throughout and we appreciated the “change of scenery”. Lighting was great for the ambience but still bright enough for reading. Puzzles were logical and had a good flow throughout the game. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Due to the fact that the room is right next to the lobby, we were able to hear sounds coming from there which took away some immersive element. There were a few puzzle pieces during the latter part of the game that already needed some repairing. Perhaps it would be good to look into a sturdier option as it was quite difficult to use for a puzzle. One particular furniture piece was difficult to maneuver. We didn’t want to yank it too hard but also missed part of the puzzle because of it. The ending part could have had a more dramatic finale as it felt a bit of wasted space. Perhaps a bit more decor or one more puzzle could strengthen the finale. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? If you like to solve mystery with a twist, you’ll like this room. For readers who are worried about jump scares, there aren’t any. Although the room feels eerie, it was not scary. We suggest a team of no less than 3 players if you like to experience the full game play. A. Budge discovered the hidden tomb of Ani while exploring the ruins in the Valley of the Kings, In 1888, Budge never resurfaced and he was declared trapped inside and died due to starvation. If you and your team are able to find Budge's knapsack, there are maps and tools inside that will help you locate Anibus' treasure room. Do you have what it takes to find the treasure and escape "The Tomb"? 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The set design for "The Tomb" was amazing. Although, Bates Motel Escape Rooms has a tremendous amount of space to work with, they really know how to utilize it well! The Sphinx was gigantic, but Anubis was about the size of 2-story building! With the combination of lasers and smoke (you can even smell that ancient tomb aroma through the mist), we felt like we were on a movie set filled with special effects. They really went the distance in regards to the level of detail and materials used (there's real sand!). We love storylines that have an epic adventure tale to it especially when it involves archaeology! Who doesn't want to play the role of Lara Croft (Tomb Raider), Nathan Drake (Uncharted), or of course the legend himself... Indiana Jones? With this backstory, you're presented with 3 objectives - (1) find archaeologist E. A. Budge, (2) with his maps and tools, find the treasure, (3) find a way out! The set design for "The Tomb" provides the perfect exhibition to complete your experience! Let's talk puzzles! As discussed in my interview with the co-owner - Randy, "The Tomb" is extremely high-tech with only one real key. There were some really unique physical puzzles that were cleverly incorporated into the set design allowing you to actually feel like an adventurer! 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There was a physical challenge in the first room that was a bit difficult to maneuver. Normally, we apply the 2-finger rule and this required a little bit more elbow into it. Most enthusiasts would probably attempt to solve it, but then decide that it's not the right answer if too much force is required. I would recommend making it a little bit more user-friendly. The prop used for a riddle puzzle could have been better designed. It felt confusing to be able to only utilize partial of the answer choices when all choices were present. It felt like 50% was already eliminated for us. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Bates Motel Escape Rooms is an interactive entertainment center that currently has 4 escape room games, a laser tag arena, axe throwing and rage rooms! On this trip we only had time for 3 of their escape rooms "The Tomb", "Bates Manor", "and "Countdown". Hopefully we'll have a chance to return to play "Revenge of the Serial Killer" in the future. They started off with haunted attractions and later expanded to create Bates Motel Escape Rooms. With their haunt background, all of their set designs were top notch. "The Tomb", it feels an exhibit at the Museum of Natural History! We were instantly transported to another realm. This was probably our favorite out of the 3 games that we've played here! You and your team of burglars finally have an opportunity to break in and try to crack the safe! But you must hurry! If Mr. Bates catches you, the police will be the least of your worries! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Once again we applaud Bates Manor with its set design! We entered what seems to be the front gate and porch area of a house. The working water fountain, the birdhouse and the lit up window really made us feel like someone was living there. Once we stepped foot inside, it felt like a scene from the movie - "Clue"! The lighting and music really provided that Victorian era feel. In terms of puzzles, the game for "Bates Manor" starts OUTSIDE the front door! Once you've made it past the gate, your skills of breaking and entering are going to be tested! We love the added objective of being tasked with how to get inside the escape room. This was done extremely well due to the fact that we are burglars trying to figure out a way in! Once inside, there was a good mixture of traditional, physical (loving the ideas of physical tools), and technological puzzles. The storyline was unique in a sense that we start off as the culprits that could potentially face a larger threat from the real antagonist... Mr. Bates! This "threat" is constantly felt by the atmosphere of the home even though there were no live actors in the game. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Cici bypassed a set of puzzles by accidentally setting something the right way which confused us quite a bit. The room was too dim to have too much reading material for this one puzzle. There were also too much red herrings that accompany the reading which made it even more difficult to figure out in this type of room setting. Some props felt worn. One particular one definitely needs a replacement as it contained a code that we couldn't read clearly which we had to eventually ask the GM. Although the storyline was unique and we kept discovering things as we continued, we felt like it could've had a more climactic ending. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Bates Motel Escape Rooms is an interactive entertainment center that currently has 4 escape room games! Today, we are trying "The Tomb", "Bates Manor", "and their hardest one... "Countdown". Unfortunately, we didn't have time to play their 4th game - "Revenge of the Serial Killer". They also have Stryke Force laser tag which is an intense, unique indoor tactical laser tag arena! In addition, they also have a party room and rage rooms. only had enough time to play 3 out of the 4 games. Like a lot of other companies, they started off with haunted attractions and later expanded to create Bates Motel Escape Rooms. One thing that we always appreciate, is when company's decorate the outside of the room before even entering inside! What better way to fully immerse yourself into the experience of walking inside of a haunted manor? This a fun room for haunt-lovers that want to experience something a bit eerie but not too scary! You are to restart an old submarine in order to launch coordinates to take out the NK missiles. You might encounter enemy ships along the way at which time you'll have to decide to either engage or evade. Use the alerts from ComSubPac and pay close attention to Emergency Action Messages (EAM) in order to successfully complete this mission. Are you ready team? 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The submarine set design was on par with the rest of the Bates Motel Escape Rooms. I love submarine-themed escape rooms and find it fascinating when designed correctly! From small details like metal doors and mesh walls to an entire control room, I was ready to throw on a uniform and make my way to the bridge (there's even a hatch)! The green light and red warning lights really added the feeling of traveling deep under the sea. In various parts of the game, different alarm sounds also added the urgency to the situation. The storyline writes itself and puts you in the driver's seat (in this case the captain's seat). There was a lot of executive decisions to be made in this game and war-related scenarios that allowed us to feel the adrenaline. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One thing that we noticed with "Countdown" is that some of the puzzles felt repetitive and required a lot of similar actions . We understand that this escape room is supposed to be the most challenging one and rated difficult. However, when the puzzles or obstacles are more tedious than challenging, it's no longer entertaining. This could be easily fixed by cutting done down some of these repetitive steps. Some solutions felt too obvious and didn't really make sense as to why they would be the solution. If it's utilized from a story aspect it would make more sense. There were so parts, switches and stations that we had to learn during this 60 minute game. Some were difficult to spot as we were not sure what monitor to look at and what to take as the next step. We really had to utilize our GM's help sort of like guide in order for us to complete this game (with extended time). It felt a bit overwhelming. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Although I ranked this room to be a 7, realistic it felt like a 9.5/10 not be cause of the puzzle difficulty level but because of the repetition we had to do in order to complete the various commands. With more people you may have a chance to escape in time but with two players it's nearly impossible. The best way to play this game is to have one player manning a particular station. During the game, you are constantly on the move so it felt like a high speed workout! If you love physical activity type of games, you'll definitely get your money's worth in the the "Countdown"! Unfortunately, you and your friends have been kidnapped by a young gang of ruthless dropouts that have locked you inside of a class room. At your expense, their sadistic minds want to have fun by putting your wits to the challenge. In order for you to escape before the purge begins, they've created a series of puzzles for you to solve... Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE We love the unique storyline for this escape room. We've watched all the purge movies and understood that the characters in the movies always try to come up with crazy challenges for their "victims" and these puzzles in "The Purgers" game definitely attest to that. There's a lot fun moments that the room was able to create for us (let's just say it's was definitely not Cici's intention to undress someone). Although the name may come off as a horror-themed escape room, it's definitely family-friendly. The classroom setting bought back memories for us as young adults and there were a lot of toys we were able to "operate" with. The creators were able to cleverly implement them into puzzles. One part of the set design was really unexpected. We loved that we can still be surprised by a game after playing 700+ escape rooms. SAGE did a great job at differentiating the clues from red herrings which was very important in this room as there were a ton of props. As enthusiasts, sometimes we prefer to play a traditional escape room with less tech but great puzzles. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK We were able to jump over a puzzle prior to the actual cluing. Perhaps that could be avoided by securing the puzzle better so the players won't be able to play out of sequence. Because this game was made to cater towards a more family-friendly experience, we understand why there weren't much added jump-scares. However, due to the nature of the name and storyline, one thing we thought could be implemented is the sense of urgency. Maybe, in the beginning have the leader of the gang mention that they'll be back in 75 minutes and if we're still there it's "game over for us"! Then as the time whittles down, security cameras can show footage of the gang getting closer every 20 minutes. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This game is great for large groups that love to divide and conquer. Since the game is not linear, everyone will have something to do right from the beginning. If you love puzzles and opening tons of locks then you'll feel like you're in 75 minutes of escape room heaven! The puzzles were quite challenging but remember you do have a mole that might be able to assist you (if you ask nicely). This one is definitely a mental exercise and a great way to keep you on your toes! Passing through your town, he managed to make false promises while secretly robbing your town's bank only to escape with your money on his personal train! You have 60 minutes to break into his train before he leaves town. This is your last chance to get everyone's cash back! Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Personally, I love escape rooms that takes place in an unexpected location like on a plane, on a ship, and of course... on a train! We've played a couple of train-related games and "The Great Train Heist" is another fantastic addition to that list. The storyline was very unique and provided us with a heroic mission objective to save our town! As soon as we entered the station, we felt the adrenaline rush and determination to get on to that train! Being that this story takes place in 1865, the set design definitely gave us that era. From the old fashioned wooden cargo train build to the green color palette on the walls, this really set the tone. The puzzles just kept getting better and better from the station to onboard the train. There was a good variation of challenges that we really enjoyed from beginning to end. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One of the challenges involved us having to backtrack which we didn't really feel like it played well when the objective is to get onto the train (possibly a "moving" train) if time is of the essence. A puzzle in the latter stages still confuses us till this day even with the explanation from the game master. We ultimately got it and escaped but didn't quite get the reasoning behind the puzzle design. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This was one of our favorite Amazing Escape Room games. The set design felt well maintained and puzzles were challenging but most importantly, majority of the time they made sense. If you're a more experienced player, definitely give this room a go. We look forward to more of these types of games from Amazing Escape Room in the near future!
