- 60out Escape Rooms - "Orion's Ridiculous Revenge"
Photos provided by 60out Escape Rooms (Downtown) Company: 60out Escape Rooms (Downtown) Game: Orion's Ridiculous Revenge Country: USA πΊπΈ Language: English Type of Game: Digital Escape Game (W/ GM) π» Genre: Thriller/Comedy Date Played: 10/4/2020 Difficulty (based on 5 players): 5.5/10 Size of Team: 2-8 Players (Age restriction: 13+) Time: 60 Minutes Price: Free (Donations strongly recommended) We loved the Miss Jezebel remote escape room so when the owner informed us about this game, we had to beta test it right away even if it meant to stay up till 2AM! This review is based on the beta test we did prior to the actual release. You might experience some components of the game differently since the owner has changed some items based on our feedbacks and other feedbacks he's gotten from the beta testing. Although the game is free, you'll still have to book a slot for your group because it'll be monitored by a game master online over Zoom. Hints could be asked through the Zoom chat. The game is played over a program called Telescape and Zoom is merely served as the group's communication tool. In this digital version of Miss Jezebel, you'll see some familiar characters like Miss Jezebel, her sock puppet and the star of the show, Orion the cat. Orion is very protective of his owner and he definitely sensed some danger coming from Miss Jezebel's newest suitor. Together, we should be able stop new this new suitor from his evil plans. The videos were all filmed from the perspective of Orion. It's quite brilliant the way they presented this digital game from beginning to end. We felt like we're watching a reality TV show where by solving puzzles, new episodes were revealed. You should definitely assign a team leader and he/she will be the designated "password submitter". Headphones are recommended so that when videos are playing your teammates won't hear an echo in the background. Since there's no going back after the password gets entered, everyone should agree before moving forward. This was definitely one of our favorite digital games. The puzzles were a lot of fun but not too difficult. They are what we would characterize as "entertaining". We couldn't stop laughing the entire time. Everyone will definitely have their moments to "shine". It was a great bonding experience. We highly recommend you trying out this game! Oh yea...And will happen in one way or another.... *** We regret to inform this game is no longer available for booking but check out other in-person escape rooms on their website*** Disclosure: We thank 60out Escape Rooms for inviting us to beta test this game. Although a complimentary experience was generously provided, it does not impact our opinion on the review whatsoever. #ESCAPETHEROOmers #AtHomeGames #EscapeRooms #60outEscapeRooms #MissJezebel #OrionsRidiculousRevenge #RemoteEscapeRoom #Avatar #Fun #Adventure #Comedy #Theater #LimitedTime
- RussBuilds - "Endgame"
Photos provided by RussBuilds Company: RussBuilds Game: Endgame Country: United Kingdom π¬π§ Language: English Type of Game: Live Stream Puzzles π» Genre: Strategy, War Date Played: 9/26/2020 Difficulty (based on 2 players): 6.5/10 Size of Team: Unlimited (2-4 ppl) Price: Free (Donation strongly recommended) End Game was played over Zoom with a live host (Russ, the game designer). Prior to the game, you'll receive a Zoom link with a password protected PDF file. At the start of the game Russ gave us an intro of the back story. This was a cold war inspired tabletop escape game that centered around a game of chess. Our goal was to stop WWIII from happening and hopefully save the world! As we opened our secret dossier file, the game began... The hint system was very unique and you might want to strategize on how you like to play the game. There were unlimited hints to be used but every time you used one, 0.5 points will be deducted. The final time would also account into the scoring system. Our suggestion would be to not to be stuck for too long and just ask hints to move on. If you finish quicker, the final score could play in your favor even if you ended up using hints. This game did not have any searching that you will have to do. Everything you needed was in front of you on the table, The puzzles were all contained in the PDF and the only time need Russ was when you figured out a code to open up the locked up props or you needed a hint. We were hoping for a bit more interaction with the props since most of the time Russ just sat there but it was nice to have the hint system right then and there and with clear directions. Although no outside knowledge or searching was needed outside of the game, we were confused by a puzzle (photo was a bit blurry) that we mistook a symbol for. It stumbled us for quite awhile but after figuring out the symbol, the game flow picked up from there. I guess there was a bit of advantage if you know Chess. Our other advice would be to be specific with what you like Russ to enter as codes and how you like him to do so. At one point we had the right code but were not specific with opening instructions and that also wasted time. And most importantly, if you thought you could play this game without pen and paper (since we were on the road and were not prepared), you're wrong. There was a good amount of decoding and calculations that would've been much easier to visualize with those tools. This was a lot of fun for a game that was designed by an enthusiast at home. On top of that, Russ was able to create something enjoyable for everyone for free during this difficult times. If you want to see more of these creations, definitely consider donations so he'll be able to work on his next game soon. The booking for this game ends on Oct 10th, so you'll still have a few more days to experience it if you haven't tried it yet! *** We regret to inform this company has closed its doors *** Disclosure: We thank RussBuilds for comping our tickets for this game. A summer camp once filled with happy children and teenage counselors has been shut down for years because of that one terrible event that no one no longer speaks about. Rings a bell? Just keep it shut, nothing good can come from this, right? Well... Camp Red Herring was reopened and (surprise, surprise) someone was picking the new counselors off!! One... by... one. Itβs now years later and rumors are starting to spread about another killer, a copycat! You and your team are the true crime podcast βOnly Murders On The Campsiteβ and you are determined to uncover this mystery. Can you do it before βThe Bag Manβ gets you all? Photo above is property of Virtual Escape Games ππ ·π ΄ π Άπ °π Όπ ΄ π Ώπ »π °π You play together with your team through Telescape and communicate over Zoom. You find a notebook inside Telescape that instructs you on where to start working. The game is divided up into small digestible chapters. Each chapter requires you and your team to solve one puzzle or task to progress to the next one. Thereβs no hint penalty, but you really want to solve this as quickly as possible. Thereβs not only penalties but lives at stake here people! After each finished puzzle, you get to listen in on a recording by the podcast crew. This continues the story forward and creates context for the next chapter. Photo above is property of Virtual Escape Games ππ ·π ΄ π Ώππππ »π ΄π As mentioned, each chapter contains its own set of challenges. Therefore, itβs always clear as to what youβre supposed to work on and what material you need. There is a good mixture of logic, deduction and interactivity in the puzzles. And when I say one puzzle per chapter, itβs not necessarily only one thing to do. Many of the puzzles required multi-steps involving different mechanics such as dragging-and-dropping elements on the screen to solve anagrams. Youβre also combining objects to then be able to use them in other ways, researching information around the camp to be able to deduce who slept in which bunk beds and deciphering wooden planks (donβt worry, itβll all make sense in due time). And, thereβs a bit of phonetic play with words that even I, as a non native English speaker, understood and enjoyed. Which, to be honest, usually isnβt the case. lol π ²π »π Ύππ Έπ ½π Ά ππ ·π Ύππ Άπ ·ππ "Return to Camp Nightmare" is a parody of campy horror films and tv shows and it does it really well. The podcasters are of all typical stereotypes, sorry I meant characters, that you have seen oh so many times in movies and tv shows through the years. I highly enjoyed this game! I like a linear setup, puzzles to be easier rather than difficult, and a silly storyline. With that being said, unfortunately my team and I only got away with 2 (out of 4) survivors, so obviously the puzzles arenβt THAT easy. Hopefully you and your team can do better than we did! - Virtual Escape Games - "REC: Escape The 80's Workout VHS" & "CyberDox: Escape From Cyberspace"
Company: Virtual Escape Games Country: USA πΊπΈ Language: English Type of Game: Live Stream Escape π» Time: 60 Minutes Price: Email for price. Depending on the team size Photo above is property of Virtual Escape Games Game:. REC Escape the VHS Genre: 80s Date Played: 8/15/2020 Difficulty (based on 5 players): 5/10 Size of Team: 4-8 Players Once our team got into the breakout room in Zoom, we were given instructions to the game with a link to a Dropbox Showcase. In the showcase, there were various puzzles presented in jpg files. It was definitely helpful with teammates as it saved us a lot of time toggling back and forth through the files. One teammate shared his screen so we were able to work on the puzzles together. We also used the Zoom drawing tools and "wrote" directly on the puzzles. Our mission was to figure out why Simon Richards (a prominent at-home workout video star) mysteriously vanished on New Years Eve in 1989. Our game master did not stay in the room with us the entire time. Every time when we figured out an answer to a puzzle, we would call him into our room to unlock a segment of a video tape. Since it does take him a bit of time to get back to us (as he has other groups he's assisting), we figured it would be more efficient to call him back when we had all the answers. This ultimately helped us retain a record for this game with 25 minutes remaining. "Rec: Escape the 80's Workout VHS" really took us down the memory lane. It was nice to be able to reminisce about things that happened in the 80s. Virtual Escape Games did a great job incorporating them into the puzzles. The memorabilia and various song selections were a lot of fun to remember. I almost guarantee you that the ending would turn into a karaoke session! Game: Cyberdox: Escape From Cyberspace Genre: Sci-Fi Date Played: 8/28/2020 Difficulty (based on 5 players): 7.5/10 Size of Team: 4-10 Players We came back to try to break another record but this time Virtual Escape Games definitely upped the difficulty level! We recommend starting with "Rec: Escape the 80's Workout VHS" if you just started playing online games. Although, if you familiar with tech terms, you might have a slight upper hand in this game. The platform was more automated for this game. As we entered in the breakout room, the game master informed us that when we know the answer, we could just enter it directly into the telescape portal. Our goal this time was to help Lenox get out of a chain letter curse and escape from cyberspace. The creator added a nice intro story and the narration throughout the game. My favorite puzzle was the one where you actually had to traverse outside of the platform. Our team did felt a bit frustrated with a puzzle that was too difficult to visualize but the creator is thinking of making it interactive. We did enjoy a particular puzzle that we were able to interact with the game pieces as a group. It was a nice collaborative moment. This game could easily become a digital version but it was nice to be able to have that personal touch when we needed a hint. Since both games have been quite different so far and there was definitely a huge improvement in terms of production on the second game, we are excited to see what Virtual Escape Games will do for their next game which will be coming soon (The Artist and the Happy Little Accident) ! - The Puzzle Room - "Puzzle Wars"
Photos provided by The Puzzle Room Company: The Puzzle Room Game: Puzzle Wars Country: USA πΊπΈ Language: English Type of Game: Live Stream Puzzle π» Date Played: June 27, 2020 Size of Team: 2-10 Players Time: 60 Minutes Price: $20/PP "Puzzle War" is a live stream puzzle game where you and your teammates will be monitored by a host from "The Puzzle Room" over zoom. The host will break your group into two teams and each team will receive a link to a game portal. The teams will start at the same time to compete to finish all the puzzles or to get the highest score within the 60 minutes. There are various puzzle types and they range from easy (20 points) to difficult (100 points). During the game you'll also have chances to win bonus puzzles for additional points. Also you'll get chances to sabotage the other team. If you get stuck, you'll have three clues to use. You won't get penalized for using them but at the end of the game, if you have the same score then the amount of hints used will become a factor to determine the winner. We were very excited for an epic showdown as we recruited some powerhouse players in the industry. Our team members were: Brandon (I was more spectating), James & Charlie (Deadlocked Escape Rooms), and Sera & Sharan (1/2 of Team Squared). Our opponent team members were: David & Lisa (Room Escape Artist), Tammy, Rich (Top Escape Rooms Project), & Nick. We were all put in the same room on Zoom but found that it was difficult to communicate with our team members this way. So we formed our own FB chat group on the side and muted the Zoom. It would've been a better set up if we were able to be brought into breakout rooms as it would make team communications a lot easier and clearer. We really like the interface used for the puzzle portal. You're able to interact with the game on the computer directly. For instance, most of the other live stream puzzle we've played would give us a PDF or slideshow and we would need to write out ideas or answers on paper. In this game, most of the puzzles were interactive. You were able to move items with your mouse and keyboard. This made solving the puzzles much easier and more engaging. The bonus puzzles were also creative and a lot of fun (one in particular will remain in our memories forever). However, the audio from the host was a bit low at times so we weren't able to hear most of the bonus puzzles. This gave our opponent team a chance to win all the bonus points. But it didn't really affect the outcome since we completed all the puzzles with 15 minute and 5 seconds left. Our opponent team had about 3 minutes left. Although they did score more points with the bonus puzzles, we were declared as the official winner since we completed the game quicker. According to "The Puzzle Room", we were the only two teams able to complete all the puzzles within 60 minutes. YAY! This was our favorite live stream puzzle game so far. We felt like our brain was pumped with a shot of adrenaline and puzzled for the entire day after the game. Please create another one so we can be back for more! Meantime, YOU should gather your team and see if you are able to beat our score! (If you do decide to try this game, please remember to let them know that you heard it from"ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) - Roobicks - Escape The Desert Island & Escape The Basement
Photos have been provided by Roobicks Company: Roobicks Country: USA πΊπΈ Language: English Date Played: June 21, 2020 Type of Game: Digital Escape Game W/ GMπ» Size of Team: Unlimited Time: 60 Minutes Price: $20/PP Roobicks is what we would characterize as a live stream puzzle game drizzled with a bit of an escape room flavor. These games are great for team building but also fun for a family night. You can book as one person or as a group. Depending on how many people booked on that day, you will either play with your group or be paired up with another puzzle lover. Once the teams are determined, the host will break the teams into breakout rooms on Zoom. The game will start with an intro video explaining the story line and once everyone is ready, you host will start every team at the same time. Once a team completes the entire puzzle, they will have to wait for the other teams to finish and then the ranking of who completed the puzzles first, second and third will be announced. Only one team will win and ultimately "escape"! Game: Escape The Desert Island Genre: Adventure Difficulty (based on 2 players): 4/10 "Escape The Desert Island" started off with an intro video that took us to where we all want to be right now, a beautiful island in the South Pacific. Of course something had to go wrong and we were now stranded on the island. As if that news wasn't bad enough, there's only one raft and we must beat the other teams to it! This game was the easier one out of the two. Each puzzle was presented on a colorful PDF to us on Zoom. You were able to use the option "annotate" on Zoom to draw on the puzzles themselves. Once we solved a puzzle, we would shout it out to our game host. She will then give us the next puzzle slide. Since the host was monitoring three games at a time, at rare occasions we were able to catch a word or two of what the other team was saying when she unmuted herself. Perhaps the better way is to have the team type the answers or unlock the answers in the game on their own. The host could just be the hint guide. This was surprisingly a lot of fun as this was our first time trying out this type of game. We are not competitive game type of player. It definitely put us into another mentality. Sometimes we would try to solve the puzzles without actually solving the entire thing. We finished in 27 minutes or so and had to wait for the other teams to finish for the final winner announcement. Our suggestion is bring a group of friends that are similar in terms of puzzle solving skills and you'll have a lot more fun since you'll be finishing around the same time for a closer challenge. Game: Escape The Basement Genre: Thriller Difficulty (based on 2 players): 6/10 We were on our way to an open house but when we arrived we realized it was nothing like what we expected. The house was a run down and our stupid curiosity got us to the basement and just like that someone locked us in. Surprising this place actually has an elevator but only fits one team. Let's get this party started... Since this game was the harder one out of the two, we had to be more prepared. We invited our friends from Review The Room & Escape Room Adventurer to join us. The process was the same as the previous game where we were given an intro video and then broken into teams to our breakout rooms on Zoom. We felt like there wasn't as many puzzles in this game but instead of single step puzzles, most of them were multi steps. One particular puzzle gave us a hard time and took the most time for us to complete. It didn't stop the other teams though as Escape Room Adventurer took 1st place and Review The Room followed right after. We were not too far behind but definitely need to practice our "competitive mode" more! *** We regret to inform this company has closed its doors *** Disclosure: We thank Roobicks for comping our tickets for this game. She lives with 24 cats and looks pretty young for being 97 years old. What is going on? The adventure started out with a video intro followed by us login into a portal. This was when we were all surprised by the format of the game. We will not leave any spoilers but it was really entertaining and a great way to team build. We've seen this being used on other digital games before but it was not as smooth as this interface. This was also the first time we saw 4 people being able to operate in the interface together. My favorite part of the game was our interaction with the actor. The interactive puzzles blended with hilarious live actor moments made this game delightful to play. This game felt like an audio escape, digital escape and a bit of remote escape game hybrid (although you're not in a physical escape room setting, there is a live actor interacting with you during the game). It's truly one of its kind. We haven't seen anything like it on the market. You should definitely check out this game, especially when you are able to meet the "real" Edith at the end! *** We regret to inform this company has closed its doors *** Disclosure: We thank Mad Genius Escapes for comping our tickets for this game. - Mystery Escape Room - "Moriarty's Parlor" and "Return to Treasure Island"
Photos provided by Mystery Escape Room Company: Mystery Escape Room Country: USA πΊπΈ Language: English Type of Game: Digital Escape Game (W/GM) π» Size of Team: 4-8 Players (Ages 10+) Time: 60 Minutes Price: $80/ team ππ ·π ΄ π Άπ °π Όπ ΄ π Ώπ »π °π Our game master (Detective Gray) for Moriarty's Parlor greeted us over Google Meet. We were given a link to a website where the point-n-click game was located on. We're also provided with an excel sheet and a word doc file. Once the game started, the GM served as a guide incase we needed hints. Our GM was a bit too hands-on in terms of giving hints as there were times we did not ask for one but one was provided to us. In the "Return to Treasure Island" game, Captain Lark gave us more freedom and did a great job with giving just enough nudge to get us through the game. The graphics of the games were great. We felt like the manor design in Moriarty's Parlor had a mysterious vibe to it. We did like that there were various rooms to "travel" from and to. The pirate's ship also had a few "surprises" that we didn't expect and reminded us of hidden rooms in real escape rooms. The interface however was not very user friendly. Whenever we opened something, we would need to remember the code because it'll lock again after we leave the puzzle. This caused a lot wasted time for our team especially not knowing about this for the first game. In the "Return to Treasure Island" game, we had to ask our Captain to bypass a puzzle for us as we would've had to repeat a few solved puzzles again in order to get to where we needed to be for the final puzzle. There was simply not enough time. All the information that we found had to be copied and pasted by ourselves to the word doc and excel sheet. If the players were not use to using these programs, it'll make it quite difficult for them to interact with the team. There were also a lot of moments where we're confused on what was done already and what wasn't used yet. Some players also mistakenly deleted other player's copied info as we're doing so many things at the same time. If the game master could take on the role of removing items for us that would help a lot in this situation. Game: Moriarty's Parlor Genre: Detective Date Played: 2/6/2021 Difficulty (based on 4 players): 5/10 ππ ·π ΄ πππ Ύππ You and your team have infiltrated Moriarty's parlor but he already knew you were coming. He's set some dangerous traps for you guys and if you don't get out in 60 minutes, you and your team will be poisoned by deadly gas! ππ ·π ΄ π Ώππππ »π ΄π Since this is a point-n-click game, we didn't mind the "search and find" elements in the game as it gave teammates different task to do at the same time. There were also a few fun decoding puzzles and if you like Math, there were quite a good amount of those types of puzzles as well. We finished the game with 26 minutes or so left on the clock. πΌπβπΈβπΌπβπΌβπππππ£π€β β.π.π€β πππ π¦πππ₯π€ Jorge L. This adventure was a nicely decorated digital experience. There were A LOT of different things you need to have open and the host did a good job of explaining what needs to be opened and how to use those for the game. This was played mostly as a 360 of a room where we were able to all independently interact with items in the game. The adventure is set up where there are a ton of items you can access at once, which allows for non-linear gameplay and a constant rush of things to do. I would recommend players write as a group what is done, as I spent the entire game on a single puzzle and the rest finding things that had already been found or solved. This is great if you really like divide and conquer styled gameplay designed for more advanced players. I would also recommend setting with the host as to the level of interaction and assistance as you'd like from them before the start of the game, especially if you're more advanced. Overall, however, it was a great experience! ______________________________________________________________ Samantha W. The game was fair- it had a good mix of puzzles of differing levels of difficulty. The graphics and gameplay however seemed a little old fashioned. My main criticism would be that I felt it was quite disjointed because unless you work as a team it is easy to get lost with what is being done by everyone else and hence diminishes the experience a little. However this is not necessarily a problem with the game and could be overcome with a βteam talkβ at the beginning to determine if people want to work together or individually. Game: Return to Treasure Island Genre: Fantasy Date Played: 2/8/2021 Difficulty (based on 5 players): 6.5/10 ππ ·π ΄ πππ Ύππ You've been locked up in a storage room onboard a pirate ship. The rest of the crew are on the island looking for Gold. This is your chance to escape the jail cell and sail away with the Gold onboard the ship! ππ ·π ΄ π Ώππππ »π ΄π This game will require audio at some point so we recommend headphones. There were a good amount of puzzles in this game. In comparison, this was definitely a harder game versus the Moriarty's Parlor in our opinion. We finished with 1 minute 45 second remaining. The interface definitely caused a bit of delay as the system was not synced so each player would have to complete their own puzzle in order to move forward. We had to wait and inform the other players throughout the game play on where everyone's at and update them with the passwords so we can move forward as a team. It was quite difficult since there were a lot of different areas to explore on the ship. πΌπβπΈβπΌπβπΌβπππππ£π€β β.π.π€β πππ π¦πππ₯π€ Koen G. Our small review: Pro's - Great game host! Return to Treasure Island being my first online escape game with a time limit made it extra exciting. There was a good mix of different kind of puzzles. The ones I didn't get quick enough, other team mates solved and the ones I solved were right up my alley. The pictures used were a mix of realistic and created ones and they drew me into the story. I would definitely recommend Return to Treasure Island to friends. If it's also possible to play with a hint system instead of a game master and no time limit I think I would have enjoyed it even more. π ²π »π Ύππ Έπ ½π Ά ππ ·π Ύππ Άπ ·ππ We really enjoy the graphics and puzzles in these games. The only thing we were frustrated over was the interface. If the game could be synced where if one player did something, it would update for the rest of the players and the items that were unlocked would stay unlocked, it would make the game play a lot smoother. I am not sure if game master was really necessary for these types of digital point-n-click games unless there's a storytelling element from the game masters. We could easily complete the entire game on our own with a build-in hint system. I look forward to seeing other formats of digital games Mystery Escape Room would come up with in the future. - Mystery Escape Room - "Nancy Drew", "Minutes to Midnight", & "Superhero"
Photos below have been provided by Mystery Escape Room Mystery Escape Room currently offers 3 Audio Escape Games that you can play at home. Here are our thoughts on the individual games: Company: Mystery Escape Room Language: English Country: USA πΊπΈ Type of Game: Digital Escape Game (W/GM) π» Time: 60 Minutes Game: Nancy Drew Genre: Action, Adventure Date Played: 5/18/20 Difficulty (based on 4 players): 8.5/10 Size of Team: 4-8 ppl Price: $85/Team You would book this audio escape game at a set time and date and a game host will be with you the entire hour. Nancy Drew was my all time favorite detective and when I was younger, I used to play all the Nancy Drew PC games. I was very excited to test out this trademarked adventure. I was a little disappointing of not being able to see any of the characters in this game at all. The story began in front of a huge mansion and we were informed that as a group of 4 we should divide and conquer since there was a lot of rooms to explore. This game would be more fun if each player had their own login as you'll all be able to explore different places at the same time. We enjoyed finding clues and piecing together the puzzles as a team. The improvement with this game from the others was that we now have a google share drive to combine our findings. It definitely helped but you'll still need a team of very organized people. The level of difficulty for this game was definitely easier than the two so I'll definitely start here and work your way up. One issue we found that wasted a bit of time was that if you exit out of a room that you already opened with a code, you'll have to enter it again. It would be great if the game was set up where once the door was opened, it'll remain open so we know what has already been done. It would be interesting to see if this game could also be developed into an app. We felt like we were playing a video game at times with the point and click option within the mansion. If you think you got the wits and organization skills like Nancy Drew, then give this mystery a go! Game: Minutes to Midnight Genre: Action, Thriller Date Played: 5/13/20 Difficulty (based on 6 players): 9/10 Size of Team: Unlimited Time: 60 Minutes Price: $250/Team You would book this audio escape game at a set time and date and a game host will be with you for the entire hour. He/she will be the facilitator to distribute the 6 roles (science, police, research, communication, criminology, and geography) to the team members. If you have more than 6 people, some people will be assigned the same role and they can work together. This game requires a lot of communication and sharing of information among team members. The amount of players and how each player plays the game can determine the final fate of the mission. The issue we found with this game is that it's difficult for us to share information using google hangout with each other especially if you are not tech-savvy. It takes a lot of time for PC users to crop and paste a photo since we need to save it as a file and attach it to the group to send it (Mac is a little faster). But since sharing information is a necessity in this game, it would be great for the company to develop a portal where we can easily place what we found and what we have to piece together still. It was very hard to keep track of what each player still had to do or have done already. As a team of 6, we got 2 answers incorrectly so we failed at the end. I can definitely see corporations using this game for team building. We did enjoy the different types of puzzles that eventually would have to be pieced together to find several mission goals. Game: Superhero Genre: Action, Adventure Date Played: 3/27/20 Difficulty (based on 6 players): 8.5/10 Size of Team: 4-8 ppl Time: 60 Minutes Price: $75/Team You would book this audio escape game at a set time and date and a game host will be with you the entire hour. The Superhero Escape Adventure allows you and your team to be the ones to save the day! Your goal is to find the mind-control devices that the evil supervillain known as Dr. Psionic has placed in different locations around the world. You must find the device and deactivate them before they go off! Much like the other audio escape games offered by Mystery Escape Room SLC, we were all assigned a different role. We managed to get inside of an evil villain's apartment which allowed us to search around for clues leading to our next destination. The setup for this game was similar to "Minutes To Midnight" in which we all had access to the files that we needed to work on and communicate with each other. I love the concepts of superhero escape room themes. However, it would've been great if the "superhero" aspect could've really been implemented. Maybe some superpowers that we could really tap into in order to maximize our potential. Aside from the introduction of a supervillain character (Dr. Psionic), this felt like a typical detective game. Regardless, the ability to create an objective that requires communication to solve problems is always great! - CNY Attractions - "Tigerland"
Video/ Photos have been provided by CNY Attractions Company: CNY Attractions Game: Tigerland Country: USA πΊπΈ Language: English Type of Game: Digital Puzzle Game (W/ GM) π» Genre: Comedy, Mystery Date Played: May 19, 2020 Difficulty (based on 4 players): 6/10 Size of Team: Recommend 10 or less Time: 60 Minutes Price: $49.95 (Up to 10 Connections) "Tigerland" was a unique live stream puzzle experience for us. I wouldn't call it an escape room but we still had a mystery to solve. You'll be joined by a game master who would monitor the room for the entire session. Once he introduced the story, he stayed silent throughout the game. You could ask for unlimited hints with this game. Since our mission was to found out who took Bobby Majestic's money, we had to review every suspect's alibi. In order for us to get through to the alibi we had to solve a series of puzzles and unlock their files. It was easy to split the puzzle load within our team and work on them simultaneously. When we had all of the files unlocked, we were able to listen to the alibi separately. We found this method to be the best way to keep the game flow. At the end, we came to discuss all the alibis we heard and by using the deduction method, we came up with the right thief. The characters in the alibis did a great job at entertaining us and there were definitely a few favorites. Since listening to the alibi does take a long time, we did ask the owner if 60 minutes was going to be enough for the groups. He informed us that sometimes he just let the groups stay as long as they want to in the zoom session until they complete the puzzles. We thought that was very nice of them. We were shocked when we heard the owner say he's able to host 1800 people at once for these type of games. The corporations and colleges love it due to the team building aspects and we enjoyed it even more as a more intimate setting. - Reality Break Escapes - "Seattle Freeze"
Video/ Photos have been provided by Reality Break Escapes Company: Reality Break Escapes Game: Seattle Freeze Country: USA πΊπΈ Language: English Type of Game: Audio Escape Room π Genre: History Date Played: May 17, 2020 Difficulty (based on 6 players): 5/10 Size of Team: 4 Connections Time: 60 Minute Price: $50.00 (Up to 2 connections)/ $20.00 each additional We went to Seattle last year and visited the popular tourist places: Space Needle, Pike Place Market, Chihuly Garden and Glass and of course the Starbucks Reserve Roastery. We were lucky to experience some sun for the two days we were there. Reality Break Escape's live stream puzzle game "Seattle Freeze" bought back some of the wonderful memories we spent at the beautiful city. The game started with the game master informing us that Seattle was in danger and the only clue we had was a encrypted message. The puzzles were then presented to us on colorful PDFs along with the GM's audio stories. The stories felt like we were getting a city tour while trying to unveil the mysteries. This was also the first time we learned about the drawing tools on zoom. It was great to be able to use that on the PDFs as a team. It really enhanced the teamwork experience. If they are able to add a answer box where the final agreed upon answer could be entered to go to the next puzzle, that would make it more seamless. There was one puzzle where we were confused on if they wanted letters or number and how many would we need but since we played it during the testing phase, this should probably be resolved by now. The puzzles were not extremely hard so it would be fun for kids as well. There were a lot of locations mentioned in the game that we missed on our last trip. I think this definitely calls for a revisit to Seattle when this chaos is all over! (If you do decide to try this game, please remember to let them know that you heard it from"ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) - Red Lantern Escape Rooms - "The Hardin House Mystery"
Photos have been provided by Red Lantern Escape Rooms Company: Red Lantern Escape Rooms Game: The Hardin House Mystery Country: USA πΊπΈ Language: English Type of Game: Audio Escape Room π Genre: Mystery Date Played: 6/1/2020 Difficulty (based on 4 players): 6/10 Size of Team: Up to 8 Players Time: 60 Minutes Price: $60 (up to 4 ppl), $15 each additional "The Hardin House Mystery" is probably one of our favorite audio escape room experiences so far. The owner (also our narrator) took us back to Spring of 1988. We "stood" in front of the Hardin House and the story began... As we explored the massive 8 room house, we're able to find items or puzzles along the way. Most of the other audio escape rooms we've played just provided us with a plain PDF sheet and we just had to tell the narrator what we would like them to do and we'll get a response back that they've done it and what had happened as a result. The PDF remains the same the entire time. In this game, when we discovered an area with a lock or puzzle, the narrator was able to click into it and either a picture will show up as a lock or an audio story would open. We also enjoyed the fact that long notes were being read by a character in the story instead of us having to silently read it to ourselves. We appreciated that the time was paused while we're presented with these stories so it didn't cut into our play time. The sound elements also helped greatly with the immersion level. Whenever a classic 80s song came on, we couldn't help but to sing and dance to it. There were a few puzzles that were predictable and most of the puzzles were not very challenging for us enthusiasts but there were definitely a good amount to go through for us to enjoy almost an entire hour of play. We hope to see some more "wow" moments in the future games. Although the interface was the best one we've seen so far in audio escape room category, the owner said he will be adding an inventory list on the side screen which will make the game even smoother. This game definitely gave us a "Nancy Drew" vibe. See if you have the wits to found out what's the mystery behind the Hardin House! *** We regret to inform this game is no longer available for booking but check out other in-person escape rooms on their website*** Disclosure: We thank Red Lantern Escape Rooms for comping our tickets for this game. - Hour Glass Online Escape Room - "The Queen's Stolen Jewels" & "Underwater Extraction"
Photos have been provided by Hour Glass Online Escape Room Hour Glass Online Escape Room currently offers 2 Audio Escape Games that you can play at home. Here are our thoughts on the individual games: Company: Hour Glass Online Escape Room Country: United Kingdom π¬π§ Language: English Type of Game: Audio Escape Game π Date Played: 5/27/2020 Time: 60 Minutes Price: Β£25.00 Game: The Queen's Stolen Jewels Genre: Action, Adventure Difficulty (based on 4 players): 6.5/10 Size of Team: Recommended 2-4 Hour Glass Escape's audio escape rooms established their story line around sending you as special forces agent X, into various different missions. The puzzles were embedded inside PDFs that were presented along with a story narration by your live host. Our first mission was to recover "The Queenβs Stolen Jewels". We enjoyed the creativity of giving "tools" that we could utilize as agents in order to solve certain puzzles. Even though this was a virtual room, the creator was trying to mimic what could've been done in a real escape room or real life situation. We enjoyed the puzzles and the story line. It would be great if the artwork could be improved along with some sound effect. We also think some video elements could help enhance the experience. With the 4 of us we were able to get out with around 20 minutes left on the clock. There were a good amount of puzzles and kept us busy for the entire time. The creator did inform us after that the artwork would be reworked on so when you book, you might see something different that what we have posted here. We can't wait to see a revamped version of these mission series! Game: Underwater Extraction Genre: Action, Adventure Difficulty (based on 2 players): 8/10 Size of Team: Recommended 2-4 "Underwater Extraction" was the second mission that we tried. This time we had just the two of us and was able to escape with 2:14 left on the clock. This was definitely a harder mission with more puzzles. Group of 4 seemed to be the best size for this game. Our review for this game would be very similar to what we've written for the game above. The story line was more entertaining for us with this story and there were more "rooms" to go through. We hope with the new visuals and sound effects, this could be enjoyed at a more immersive level. *** We regret to inform this company has closed its doors *** Disclosure: We thank Hour Glass Online Escape Room for comping our tickets for these games. - Escapist NZ - "Red Hill Asylum"
Photos have been provided by Escapist NZ Company: Escapist NZ Game: Red Hill Asylum Country: New Zealand π³πΏ Language: English Type of Game: Audio Escape Room π Genre: Horror Date Played: 6/6/2020 Difficulty (based on 4 players): 4/10 Size of Team: 2-5 Players Time: 60 Minutes Price: NZ $75 (1-3 locations), NZ $100 (4 locations), NZ $125 (5 locations) "Red Hill Asylum" is an audio-led escape room experience. You'll need to download Skype and create an account in order to join the game. The game master will be hosting the entire game with your team on Skype. He/She will be introducing the story to your group and you'll then take turns suggesting different ideas or paths to take for the story to develop. Illustrations will be provided to help you visualize the room and puzzles. We teamed up with our friends Escape Room Adventurer and began the journey as stars of a super popular TV show. We were filming at Red Hill Asylum since we've heard many creepy tales about it and decided that we must get footage for our beloved audience. Even if it meant to risk our lives... We always enjoyed the "imagination" aspect of audio escape rooms and we had to use a lot of that here. We were able to tell the game master to do a lot of actions that we wouldn't be able to do in a real life escape room. Each of us had different ideas and interpretations on the paths or actions to take. The puzzles weren't as difficult and pretty predictable for enthusiasts but we still enjoyed the story line. It had a "Resident Evil" kind of feel. It would've been great to see more visual aids and eerie music. It would have made the atmosphere more creepy and better suited for the theme. Lastly, we are happy to report that we all made it out alive. But a "piece" of our teammate will remain there forever.... *** We regret to inform this game is no longer available for booking but check out other in-person escape rooms on their website*** Disclosure: We thank Escapist NZ for comping our tickets for this game. - Audio Escape - "Gangs of Manhattan Vol.1 : Deadly Game"
Photos above has been provided by Audio Escape Company: Audio Escape Game: Gangs of Manhattan Vol: 1 Deadly Game Country: Germany π©πͺ Language: German/ English Type of Game: Audio Escape Room π Genre: Detective Date Played: 6/14/2020 Size of Team: Unlimited Difficulty (based on 3 players): 6/10 Time: 63 Minutes Price: β¬59 (Up to 4 Connections)/ β¬10 (each additional) "Gangs of Manhattan Vol. 1: Deadly Game" was the first episode of an audio escape series by Audio Escape. Currently there are 3 episodes in total. The company had just translated the game to English and we're excited to beta test it. As corruption took over the entire city, we were the only cops left with some dignity. The Mafia was led by Tony Vercatto and he had just announced his candidacy for the mayor. He was planning to celebrate with an illegal poker game at his warehouse. This would be our last chance to capture him and keep our city safe. It was quite enjoyable to listen to some background music from the game (felt like we were in a casino) in the waiting room of Zoom. Our game master made an intro about the story and we started the game. The format of the game was given in drawings. Once you solved an area, you'll then be able to "unlock" another. The scenery was described to us by the game master and then we were able to began our "search". There weren't many actual puzzles in the game. It was mostly what you would do in these scenarios with the tools you currently have. We did enjoy thinking outside the box as that's usually what audio escape rooms pushes you towards. Since there were no boundaries on what could be done in an audio escape room, we were able to ask the game master to do anything we liked. It would've been a better experience if the game master's "comebacks" were not as rigid. It felt like she was just reading the script but if it wasn't on there then there was a silence pause. In the end we were able to complete our mission for this episode in 45 minutes. There was a nice cliffhanger at the end of the episode that made us wonder what's going to happen in "Gangs of Manhattan - Vol. 2: The Golden Dragon"? *** We regret to inform this company has closed its doors *** Disclosure: We thank Audio Escape for comping our tickets for this game.
