- Loading 实景探案馆 - "Qing Luan Residence (青鸾居)"
LOCATION: GRiD, Selegie Road, Singapore Photo above is property of Loading 实景探案馆 Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Date Played: March 26, 2023 Genre: Chinese History, Murder Mystery, LARP Difficulty (Based on 8 PPL): 8/10 Total # of Players: 5-8 PPL Length of Time: 150 Minutes Price: SGD68/PP ($20 deposit to book the game session) Booking Type: Private Escaped? Yes 📖 THE STORY A merchant. A nobleman. A mysterious lady. A travelling journeyman. A goddess incarnate known only as the “Phoenix Saint”, and her servant. Two travelling detectives. And the Innkeeper of Qing Luan Residence. All of whom were at the Qing Luan Residence the night of a fire and the consequential death of Qing Luan, the inn’s owner. With each individual harbouring their own secrets, motives, and histories, even the deceased is not spared from the intrigue plaguing not only the inn and its inhabitants but the nation’s Court. Part LARP, part murder mystery, part puzzle experience - can your team solve Qing Luan’s murder before the authorities come the next morning? 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Costumes. Costumes, costumes, costumes. Each player is assigned a character with their own backstories, motives, and costume range at the beginning of the game. This immerses players further into the game and provides a plethora of photo opportunities before entering the room itself. A highly immersive set. From a discussion room, to each character’s room in the inn, to a study that only opens in the middle of the game, your session will not feel out of place in a Tang dynasty period drama. Game masters are present to guide the session from start to finish, posing as servants to one of the characters in this story. If the group gets caught in a stalemate or is running out of time, help is definitely nearby. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK While the rooms are marketed as bilingual, we realised a few errors in the English translation of the Chinese text. Due to the use of direct translation, the English scripts can read a little off. Game masters also primarily communicated in Mandarin. It could be due to the fact that our group was conversationally fluent in Mandarin, but this can be an issue for players who do not communicate in Mandarin / Chinese. Players have to read their backstories, remember their motives, act out scenes, find clues, fulfill their own objectives, unlock doors, and discuss the true string of happenings in 2.5 hours of gameplay. While the experience was exciting and immersive, it felt like I was required to do a little too much to fully understand and enjoy the session. For example, knowledge gaps during the murder mystery discuss segment would have gone smoother if there was a clearer communication line about the tools we had on hand and information we found - rather than only assigning tools to one or two characters. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? It may appear a little pricey and longer, but you can make it value for your money with a group that want nothing more than to immerse themselves in dynastic Chinese period dramas - think stories like Detective Dee and palace intrigue. The session itself is chock full of activity - script and backstory reading, role play, puzzle-solving to unlock doors, gathering evidence, and investigative discussion - with in-character game masters always ready to lend a hand. However, do note that fluency in Mandarin Chinese will go a long way here - mostly in answering questions and understanding the context of the game. For this room, we would recommend an average of 5-6 people for this room, any more would result in more opportunities for miscommunication and confusion. Loading definitely has a lot to offer, though your mileage may vary with your group, and your enthusiasm in embodying your character and their environment. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Deposits (per player) are required in order to book your gaming session, especially with the longer than usual time frame for each game. Belongings (including your phones and other recording devices) will be kept away before you change into your costumes for the session. Costume change may vary depending on the character you are assigned before the game. And lastly, mobility accessibility will be an issue, given the narrow entrances and walking areas, and barriers, within the room itself. - Never Out Escape Room - "The Ring"
LOCATION: Jeddah, Saudia Arabia Photo above is property of Never Out Escape Room Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Date Played: February 23, 2023 Genre: Horror, Suspense Difficulty (Based on 4 PPL): 5/10 Total # of Players: 2-8 PPL Length of Time: 60 Minutes Price: 185 SAR/PP Booking Type: Private Escaped? Yes (30:20 Mins) 📖 THE STORY Jeddah has faced a series of strange deaths. The victims have nothing in common except for one thing; they all died from a cardiac arrest, and on the face of each victim is a grimace of horror. As Detectives, you are tasked with investigating these murders and solving the mystery. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The set design from the moment you enter Never Out is extremely classy. The lavish cinema themed décor and furniture immediately clues you in to the fact that the games in this escape facility are all movie based. Often companies fail to provide somewhere sufficient for teams to take their photo; thought was clearly applied here. A small stage with a director’s chair and several other props are situated in front of a specially designed and lighted backdrop. It was a great and we had fun taking both group and solo pictures. My only suggestion would be to provide specific room related props too, e.g. a Mad Hatter’s hat or teacups for Alice in Wonderland, or a VHS for The Ring, etc. The quality of the room construction is a continuation of what you experience in the lobby. A high attention to detail has been applied to ensure the decoration enhances the theming. Never Out manage to create a tense atmosphere that is elevated further by the strategic use of an actor. The acting is not over-done and only enhances the experience, a balance that is sometimes hard to achieve. So, whilst they may not be present too often, the mere threat of their arrival only fuels the suspense and suspicion within. Teams are split up for a short period (which you are made aware of prior to entering), this added an extra dynamic to the game which we enjoyed. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The room is driven more by the experience than it is by puzzles; for that, it is quite light. This is not necessarily a negative, but as an experienced player, we would have enjoyed to solve more riddles along the way. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? For those who enjoy horror rooms, or experience one for the first time, this room is recommended. The synergy between suspense and horror is well struck and not overdone. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO There are several parking spaces directly in front of the building There is a large lounge area with a sofa and several other comfy chairs There are two rooms on the second floor; however, I did not see an elevator. This room is not wheelchair friendly, crawling is required. This room contains a live actor. - Never Out Escape Room - "Alice in Wonderland"
LOCATION: Jeddah, Saudia Arabia Photo above is property of Never Out Escape Room Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Date Played: February 23, 2023 Genre: Fairytale Difficulty (Based on 4 PPL): 7/10 Total # of Players: 2-8 PPL Length of Time: 60 Minutes Price: 185 SAR/PP Booking Type: Private Escaped? Yes (40 Mins) 📖 THE STORY It’s time to follow Alice back to Wonderland! It seems all her friends have been captured by the Queen of Hearts and we need to reunite them in time for their wonderful tea party. Small touches like a bubble machine and music help to heighten the immersion into Wonderland. The rooms are spacious, bright, and filled with decorative props. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The biggest negative was the excessive volume of the music, which drowned out the other sound effects. The staff stated they were aware of this common complaint and hoped it would be rectified in the future. It seems they cannot manually adjust the music level. Another sound issue relates to the often-discreet opening of small doors. There are several doors which open electronically once you solve a riddle. On more than one occasion, we had no idea because the doors did not noticeably open and there was no sound effect notifying us that a door may have opened. The theming of the puzzles could be aligned better with the story and characters. Whilst there was nothing wrong with their logic or functionality, they were very generic. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? "Alice in Wonderland" is a whimsical adventure designed for beginners and intermediate escapers that require no prior knowledge of the story to play. This is a room for fans of logic puzzles and detailed searching. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO There are several parking spaces directly in front of the building There is a large lounge area with a sofa and several other comfy chairs There are two rooms on the second floor; however, I did not see an elevator. This room is not wheelchair friendly due to one a couple of steps and a need to crawl (briefly) into one room. - GAME OVER Escape Rooms (Jeddah) - "La Mision del Profesor"
LOCATION: Jeddah, Saudi Arabia Photo above is property of GAME OVER Escape Rooms Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Date Played: February 22, 2023 Genre: Adventure Difficulty (Based on 4 PPL): 6/10 Total # of Players: 2-8 PPL Length of Time: 60 Minutes Price: 150-185 SAR/PP Booking Type: Private Escaped? Yes (37 Mins) 📖 THE STORY Relive the action from Netflix’s hit show "Casa de Papel (Money Heist)" by taking on the role as the Professor’s mask-wearing elite thieves. Disable the bank’s security systems, break into the vault and grab the cash, and secure an alternative route to escape before the police arrive. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The customer service in Jeddah was outstanding. We were well attended by the receptionist, manager, game master and numerous other staff who were all very attentive and incredibly genuine. The room itself is built to a high standard that incorporates a large footprint, making it. suitable for larger groups to freely move around. The use of props to enhance the immersion is very streamlined, but the props incorporated are effective and help push to the theme. Whilst I would have personally liked to have seen a couple more riddles in the control room, the riddles we encountered fit the story and were logical. The level of difficulty and the production value make this a good beginner/intermediate room. We enjoyed the surprise route we had to take to escape the bank. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There is one (math) riddle that is almost impossible to solve without help from the Game master; we were informed only two groups have solved it, to date. I hope that they change this in some way, even a simple pen and paper would help. The bank hall takes up a large amount of floor space and is underutilized; another puzzle would make the space feel more appreciated. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? "La Mision del Profesor" presents an immersive experience that, whilst based on the Netflix show, doesn’t incorporate any of its identity. Fans may therefore be a little disappointed if they expected to find props or character references inside, but for those who are neutral, they will enjoy it for what it is, a good bank heist room. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO There is limited free parking directly in front of the door. There is a very light use of a smoke machine and lasers at the beginning but nothing after that. There is a large lobby with lockers, couches, and tables All the rooms are above the ground floor. There is an elevator if needed. This is not a wheelchair friendly game due to one occasion of having to crawl. We were offered free small bottled water. There is a Tim Hortons store directly next door. - GAME OVER Escape Rooms (Jeddah) - "Haunted Mansion"
LOCATION: Jeddah, Saudia Arabia Photo above is property of GAME OVER Escape Rooms Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Date Played: February 22, 2023 Genre: Spooky Difficulty (Based on 5 PPL): 8/10 Total # of Players: 2-6 PPL Length of Time: 60 Minutes Price: 150-185 SAR/PP (pending on group size) Booking Type: Private Escaped? Yes (51:44 Mins) 📖 THE STORY You are a team of supernatural investigators who have been employed to enter an old abandoned mansion in search of an ancient artifact. The only problem is, the spirits within aren’t too happy you are there. Can you find the artifact before the spirits tire of your presence and condemn you to an eternity locked in the house? Video above is property of GAME OVER Escape Rooms 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE GAME OVER has created an immersive haunted experience that fits nicely in the ‘spooky’ category vs. ‘horror’, which, I believe, makes this a more accessible room for those who don’t like to be too scared. The house consists of five professionally decorated spaces with thoughtful and well-placed props that help create a dark, desperate, atmosphere. The last space you enter was our favorite of them all (no spoilers). For the most part, we appreciated the puzzles. Many focused on the occult and even drew inspiration from the story by focusing on the family members who used to live here. Whilst there was no actor inside there were a couple of electronics, which created numerous jumpy moments throughout. Fantastic customer service from all the staff we encountered. Each was welcoming and eager for us to have a fun time. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK As mentioned, for the most part we enjoyed all the puzzles inside, I particularly enjoyed the trickiness and logic behand the last puzzle, however the rationale with one dice puzzle should perhaps be revisited since the solution is not found where you would logically expect it and thus you find yourself questioning and altering your methodology. There was one other puzzle involving a sequence of numbers, which caused confusion, we ended up guessing possible solutions multiple times before eventually stumbling across the correct code. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? We recommend this room for enthusiasts that don’t mind playing alongside things that go ‘bump in the night’ and who revel in the thought of a room with primarily logic based puzzles. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO There is limited free parking directly in front of the door. There is a very light use of a smoke machine and lasers at the beginning but nothing after that. There is a large lobby with lockers, couches, and tables All the rooms are above the ground floor. - GAME OVER Escape Rooms (Jeddah) - "Lost City of Atlantis"
LOCATION: Jeddah, Saudia Arabia Photo above is property of GAME OVER Escape Rooms Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Date Played: February 22, 2023 Genre: Adventure Difficulty (Based on 5 PPL): 5/10 Total # of Players: 2-8 PPL Length of Time: 60 Minutes Price: 150-185 SAR/PP (pending on group size) Booking Type: Private Escaped? Yes (27:48 Mins) 📖 THE STORY The ancient and mythical lost city of Atlantis has been found! After your years of research, you manage to discover its whereabouts and are the first to journey there. However, your presence there has awoken the angered the almighty Neptune who sank the city to begin with. To save yourselves, and the city, you must find his lost trident and return it to him. Video above is property of GAME OVER Escape Rooms 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The decoration and production is incredibly well done, complete with a working waterfall and thematic sounds and lights that combine to provide an immersive experience. The biggest win for this room was the ability to create puzzles, which forced the team to collaborate in order to progress. We enjoyed the separation element and how good communication became critical to our success. Aside from the cooperative puzzles mentioned, the room also provides a good range of puzzle styles; searching, code breaking, dexterity, audio, and logic. The room is simple but fun; we escaped quickly but still enjoyed every step of our journey. Fantastic customer service from all the staff we encountered. Each was welcoming and eager for us to have a fun time. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK There were no glaringly obvious faults that stood out to us. As an experienced team we escaped in less than half an hour, so perhaps either more puzzles or harder challenges would have been appreciated (as an experienced player). However, just because a room is easy does not make it necessarily negative. The story could be tightened up; it didn’t make the most sense to us. Essentially the room is divided into two main halves that are separated by the impassable waterfall (until you turn it off). We are not sure what each side of the room represents since they are both decorated the same way and so that confuses the reason why we need to move Neptune’s trident from one side to the other. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? "Lost City of Atlantis" is a striking room with an unusual theme and beautiful decoration. Despite its simplicity we would recommend everyone to play this whimsical adventure and enjoy the immersion into Neptune’s sunken city. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO There is limited free parking directly in front of the door. There is a very light use of a smoke machine and lasers at the beginning but nothing after that. There is a large lobby with lockers, couches, and tables All the rooms are above the ground floor. There is an elevator if needed. This is not a wheelchair friendly game. Players must stoop low to get through one door and go up and down a couple of steps. We were offered free small bottled water. - GAME OVER Escape Rooms (Jeddah) - "School of Magic"
LOCATION: Jeddah, Saudia Arabia Photo above is property of GAME OVER Escape Rooms Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Date Played: April 4, 2023 Genre: Wizard, Magic Difficulty (Based on 2 PPL): 6/10 Total # of Players: 2-8 PPL Length of Time: 60 Minutes Price: 150-180 SAR/PP (pending on group size) Booking Type: Private Escaped? Yes 📖 THE STORY You're worst nightmare has just become reality... The Dark One has awakened. The only thing that can defeat him is the Enchanted Scarlet Gem. Will you be able to overcome all the obstacles and retrieve it from the secret chamber in time? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The room does disguise "the reveals" quite well. You start off in a small room only to realize that the secret chamber definitely "opens up" to deeper mysteries. The final room was quite majestic. You feel like you're in one of the hallways in the Harry Potter movie. The only thing we were hoping for was more puzzles as just one felt like a waste of space. One of the cluing props used was quite "magical". It went perfectly with the story it was trying to portray (although there was an error either in the lock or the cluing itself). 🧩 MISSED THE MARK The wand, a tool we had to use multiple times in the room, was hard to maneuver. We suggest either adding an instruction booklet or an easier tool. One of the things we had to discover didn't have a clear clue about the prop itself. Being that we're careful players, we didn't want to "force" the item into something we're unsure if that's the intent of the use. It would be great to have an "indicator" on the prop. We suggest taking one of the clues from the book manual out as it was confusing to the players when it's not used for the actual puzzle or prop. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? If you wanted to feel like a wizard and make some magic spells, this room definitely gave you a few opportunities to do so. It would be great if there were some added dramatic sound/light moments as there were definitely occasions that lacked that "wow" moment. However, for beginners, there were a few "tricks" that will definitely leave you pondering: "How did they do that?" The puzzles were more task-oriented so if you're able to read the instructions carefully, you should have no problem defeating the Dark One and saving the world! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Free parking right outside the location. Located in a strip mall. Lobby area with seating available. Games are located upstairs (there is an elevator available) Merchandise available for purchase. - GAME OVER Escape Rooms (Jeddah) - "Alice In Wonderland"
LOCATION: Jeddah, Saudia Arabia Photo above is property of GAME OVER Escape Rooms Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Date Played: April 4, 2023 Genre: Fantasy Difficulty (Based on 2 PPL): 5.5/10 Total # of Players: 3-6 PPL Length of Time: 60 Minutes Price: 150-185 SAR/PP (pending on the group size) Booking Type: Private Escaped? Yes 📖 THE STORY Somehow, you've ended up in Wonderland! Quick! Before you disappear with time, you must escape this world. Maybe Alice could give you some guidance? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The set design does give the players the satisfaction of traversing through various parts of this magical world. The changes in the "scenery" makes us want to keep going forever. There were a few physical puzzles designed to emphasize teamwork which was a nice added touch. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Some props felt like they needed a fresh coat of paint. It would be helpful to add some sounds or lights to alert players, especially for items that were opened or clues that were given (there was a clue that we didn't know we'd only received half of the information until the GM had to inform us). The finale felt anti-climactic in terms of how we actually "escaped" Wonderland. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This room is a great beginner's room for teamwork. But the puzzles are linear so I would suggest no more than 2-3ppl being the ideal number of players. The puzzles were quite easy to figure out as most were task-oriented rather than logical. Although the props were themed to Wonderland, the puzzles didn't really make us feel like they were related to a storyline per se. The room is definitely geared more towards "fun" as the goal rather than giving hardcore enthusiasts the satisfaction of puzzling. If you love "Alice in Wonderland", you'll probably still have a Wonderful time as you'll be "greeted" by many of your favorite characters from the story. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Free parking right outside the location. - GAME OVER Escape Rooms (Jeddah) - "Maniac"
LOCATION: Jeddah, Saudia Arabia Photo above is property of GAME OVER Escape Rooms Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers Date Played: April 4, 2023 Genre: Horror, Survival Difficulty (Based on 2 PPL): 4.5/10 Total # of Players: 2-6 PPL Length of Time: 60 Minutes Price: 150-185 SAR/PP (pending on group size) Booking Type: Private Escaped? Yes 📖 THE STORY You wake up realizing that you have become one of Jigsaw's latest victims. Time is running out... You only have 60 minutes before he comes back to finish you off... Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE You will be handcuffed and told to keep your eyes closed at the start of the game. This added a level of fear for us not knowing what is to come and on top of being locked up as well. Waking up, you'll be in a pitch-dark room with just a dim light coming from an old TV with a static screen. Your game starts now... The "choice" that one of the players had to make at the beginning of the game was one of our favorite parts of the game. All of a sudden you can't decide if you are actually trying to save your team or become the killer's accomplice. The "escape route" was to be discovered by the player one step at a time as the killer had left clues in various parts of the room. Only when you piece the clues together will you get to move a step closer to freedom. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Some clue papers/props need to be revamped. Some were hard to read and others were hard to interpret. There was a puzzle that had a couple of additional pieces of info that was unnecessary. It caused confusion as we thought we still had items we didn't find yet in order to complete the puzzle. One of the clues on the wall needs to be remarked for clarity. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? If you've seen the movie "Saw", then you'll definitely feel like you've relived some scary moments from the movie. Although there were no live actors in this room, the thought of a creepy pair of eyes staring at you through the security camera (ironically the GM is watching the whole time), monitoring your every move, sends chills down our spines. The game does incorporate certain "fears" that the players have to overcome in order to solve a certain puzzle. Most of the puzzles were fairly straight forward although there was a Math puzzle that could be challenging for some players. If you think you have what it takes to escape Jigsaw's twisted mind, come down to Game Over and ask to be locked up in the Maniac's room! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Free parking right outside the location. - REMOTE: Safarka Escape Room - "Dream Gallery"
Photos provided by Safarka Escape Room Company: Safarka Escape Room Game: Dream Gallery Country: Portugal 🇵🇹 Language: English & Portuguese Type of Game: Remote Escape Room 🗣 Genre: Mystery, Fantasy Date Played: 5/13/2020 Difficulty (based on 6 players): 7.5/10 Size of Team: Up to 8 players (Recommend 4-6 players) Time: 40 minutes Price: €59/ Session This remote escape room experience was quite different than the ones we've played so far. You'll need to download discord and learn how to use it for the audio communication part of the game. The puzzles were presented through an online website which you'll activate when the game starts. It's best that you have two devices (computer and phone) available for this game. You'll be directing your avatar in an actual room while looking at the puzzle presented to you on your phone. Once a code is solved, you'll have to inform the avatar to open the locks in the physical room and also enter it on your phone. Just make sure your group is ok with these procedures prior to booking the game. It was my first time using the discord app and it was pretty simple once the GM gave the instructions on how to set it up. The only issue we had during the game was that there was a delay in audio reception between us and the avatar. The story began with an artist dreaming about creating a master piece but can't seem to remember what it was. He then signed a contract with Dream Gallery so they could help him retrieve this masterpiece in his memory. We really enjoyed the music and video production aspects of this game but felt that the set design wasn't as powerful. It would be great if the "irrelevant" parts of the game props could be hidden from the players' views. The game play felt a bit choppy for us as well as we were unaware of the rule of "using the item more than once" and outside knowledge was needed (We gave suggestions to the company on how to correct those and they have advised us that these issues have been resolved). I enjoyed the way that the cameras were used in this remote escape room. It seemed like they used the security camera and was able to zoom in and out for us to see an actual overview of the room at times and when we needed a close up on a puzzle, the avatar was also able quickly switch to that angle. This was the only location we saw the camera being used this way. Having your own portal to enter the code was also quite enjoyable as most of the remote rooms only let you watch the avatar. This gave more chance for participation to the players. If they could strengthen the puzzle elements of the game, there could be some great potential for the company to make interesting remote and digital hybrid escape games. *** We regret to inform this game is no longer available for booking but check out other games on their website*** (If you do decide to try this game, please remember to let them know that you heard it from"ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) There were no live actors that would cause jump scares but the eerie set design and the placements of certain objects definitely made me jump a few times. This was probably the largest remote game we've seen in terms of the area it covered. We were sort of glad we didn't have to play this one in person since it would've been a lot of running back and forth. Of course we had an amazing avatar who did all the work for us. There weren't a ton of puzzles and they were all fairly simple to do so if you haven't done an escape room before, this could be a good one to give it a go! *** This game can no longer be booked as a remote game but can still be booked as an in-person experience as "The Basement" *** (If you do decide to try this game, please remember to let them know that you heard it from"ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) - REMOTE: Exit19.pl - "Time Machine: The Mystery of Leonardo"
Photos provided by Exit19.pl Company: Exit19.pl Game: Time Machine: The Mystery of Leonardo Country: Poland 🇵🇱 Language: English, Polish Type of Game: Remote Escape Room 🗣 Genre: Sci-Fi Date Played: 2/7/2021 Difficulty (based on 5 players): 7/10 Size of Team: 2-5 Players Time: 90 Minutes Price: €100.00 (up to 5 devices) 🆃🅷🅴 🆂🆃🅾🆁🆈 Recently, a secret agency was able to create a time machine from a design sketch from Leonardo da Vinci himself. As the chosen agent, you're being sent on a mission to discover the secrets Leonardo da Vinci has been hidden in his workshop. Hope the ride back to Nov 22nd, 1510 would be a smooth one? 🆃🅷🅴 🅶🅰🅼🅴 🅿🅻🅰🆈 In this online escape room, your game would come with a camera man and an avatar. Our avatar was in character right from the beginning of the game. The set design captured our attention right away. As we travelled back to 1510 in this amazing time machine mechanism, we were wowed once again by what we saw in Leonardo's workshop. Even on camera, you could tell the details that has been put into all the props. Everything felt like it's part of that century. The ceiling height also added that "majestic" feel to the entire set design. The game did not come with an inventory system so we spend a good amount of time jotting down information we needed and going back and forth to look at some of the puzzle clues. I think this is why the game is a 90 minute experience. It would help to add an inventory system especially being that the room had a lot of items that we had to look at. We love the fact that we're able to get a camera man and a live avatar for the game as it really helped when we needed to get an overview of the room while the avatar was helping us with certain tasks. At times, we didn't feel like the camera man was fully inline with what the avatar wanted us to see and what we were actually seeing. It would help to practice with the avatar more on how to sync that connection better. We also felt like the shakiness of the camera could be improved a bit by moving slower when panning. 🆃🅷🅴 🅿🆄🆉🆉🅻🅴🆂 I wouldn't waste any second in this game. There was so much that we had to discover and explore. We did get stuck for awhile on an item that was out of our viewpoint. In this case, it would be helpful if the avatar could point that out to us in a nudging way so we don't waste time our time on searching when we could devote the time to puzzling. The game was fully of surprises. Just when we thought we were done, we were presented with a full plate of puzzles again. While solving the puzzles, you may also be distracted by how amazing some of the mechanisms were constructed. Even though most of the puzzles were gen 1, it did go with the time line and theme of this room. The puzzles were also refreshing as we haven't seen some of them utilized in that way before. It was definitely unique the way they're able to translate it to fit the theme of the 1500s. 🅲🅻🅾🆂🅸🅽🅶 🆃🅷🅾🆄🅶🅷🆃🆂 This was a really fun experience. Besides being wowed by the set design over and over again, we were amazed by how they were able to make gen 1 puzzles not feel like just plan exposed codes. We really had to put our brains together to solve a few of these puzzles as a team. We've done time machine themed escape rooms before but none of which that was able to execute the replica of the time zone that we're taken back to in such a realistic way. I would say this is a game well worth playing as you probably wouldn't have a chance to visit Leonardo's workshop in any other way. So take your motion sickness pill now and hop on this journey as it'll be a bumpy ride! 𝔼𝕊ℂ𝔸ℙ𝔼𝕋ℍ𝔼ℝ𝕆𝕆𝕄𝕖𝕣𝕤❜ ℙ.𝕀.𝕤❜ 𝕋𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕘𝕙𝕥𝕤 Krista J. Pros: The set. Wow! So immersive, thematic, and expansive! From the art to the strange machines, everything felt consistently thematic and really fit into how we might have envisioned Da Vinci's lair. I can only imagine how absolutely incredible this game would be to play in person! The person with the camera is separate from your avatar, which allows for some more flexibility and a fun surprise. For us, the longer 90-minute length is also a bonus, and there is plenty to keep you occupied! There's lots to discover, and we enjoyed that some of the puzzles built up through several stages. Cons: The game would benefit from a few upgrades to the Telescape experience in terms of when and of what players get close-ups. I suspect that these will be implemented and will really enhance the player experience of what is a very cool game! We also didn't totally understand the reasoning for our whole expedition and the game's goal...(though that really didn't detract from our enjoyment of the game). Who should play: This is a totally family-friendly game thematically. While the individual puzzles are largely quite accessible, there is a LOT to do in the 90 minutes. It often took a while for us to figure out which parts went with which or just to find the various pieces. So, it may not be ideal for families with younger kids or those looking for an easier/gateway experience. If you love immersive sets, mechanical gadgets, and the daVinci theme (and you are unlikely to get there in person), you might just want to jump in the Time Machine! ______________________________________________________________ Kay F. This is a live camera escape room, and thus you tell the person on the screen where to look and what to do. At times, I found it difficult to keep track of what was in the room and what items we had discovered. An inventory that gets sent to us via message once an item is discovered may be helpful for different players to work on different puzzles at a time rather than having us have to ask the camera to go back and forth. There were some unique puzzles that were presented, and in particular, I was a huge fan of all the amazing props that were in the room! This would have been such an amazing game to play in person, and I think just a few small tweaks will make it a great digital game as well! *** This game can no longer be booked as a remote game but can still be booked as an in-person experience *** (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) Videos & Photos provided by Exit19.pl Company: Exit19.pl Game: Curse of Mayan Treasure Country: Poland 🇵🇱 Language: English, Polish Type of Game: Remote Escape Room 🗣 Genre: Adventure Date Played: 6/17/2021 Difficulty (based on 5 players): 4.5/10 Size of Team: 2-4 Players Time: 60 Minutes Price: Approx $71 (Polish), $95 (English) 🆃🅷🅴 🆂🆃🅾🆁🆈 You decided to assemble a team of brave explorers to enter the Temple of the Great Jaguar. Legend has it, it holds three hearts that can give it's owner the power to rule the world. This is not an easy task as the archaeologist George Tillman went missing after he decided to venture into this temple. Perhaps there are mysterious forces guarding these artifacts? 🆃🅷🅴 🅶🅰🅼🅴 🅿🅻🅰🆈 Our avatar introduced herself to us over Zoom as the grand daughter of Mr. Tillman. She was hoping that we would be able to help her uncover what had happen to her grandpa. This game was paired with an online inventory system Telescape. You'll receive 360 views of the rooms along with a few clue pieces that need a closer look. With no surprise, Exit19.pl build another beautiful set that transported us into an Indiana Jones movie. Right away, all of our players put on our explorer hats and started to investigate the ancient temple. Throughout the game play, we're able to discover unexpected surprises and cool Mayan mechanisms. In this game, I wish they would have utilized Telescape a bit more on showing us what items were collected throughout the game play as there were a good amount of game pieces that we had to keep track of. 🆃🅷🅴 🅿🆄🆉🆉🅻🅴🆂 I always thought translating a temple game to online would be challenging since most of the puzzles revolve around Mayan symbols and shapes. It's quite difficult to verbally translate these to the GM. Our GM was quick to interpret our commands and to our surprise, we're able to complete those puzzles rather quickly. One issue I had was a map puzzle. I'm still not sure how the GM was able to find the spot of where I was informing to as I don't think I told her clear instructions. For online play, if there could be some kind of a grid either in Telescape as an interactive puzzle or on the floor of the temple, that would greatly help the players on how to navigate the information to the avatar. A lot of the puzzles revolved around identifying the right symbols and associating them to certain objects in the right order. The puzzles were quite easy. While it was fun to direct the avatar to do them for us, this would have been a lot more exciting if we're playing this room IRL. 🅲🅻🅾🆂🅸🅽🅶 🆃🅷🅾🆄🅶🅷🆃🆂 Some elements like sound and special effects were kind of lost while playing the online version of this game. For instance, our avatar had to inform us as we couldn't tell where something had opened due to our inputs. But overall, we were distracted by the scenery and watching how certain mechanisms worked that we forgot about some of the shortcomings. Especially when we successfully retrieved the three hearts and made grandpa proud! 𝔼𝕊ℂ𝔸ℙ𝔼𝕋ℍ𝔼ℝ𝕆𝕆𝕄𝕖𝕣𝕤❜ ℙ.𝕀.𝕤❜ 𝕋𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕘𝕙𝕥𝕤 Melvin L. Curse of Maya Treasure was the second game that I have played from Exit19. The gameplay was the same as the previous one, Betrayal. There will be a game master on site and you will be guiding here on the areas you want to search via zoom. A Telescape link is also provided so that other team members can look at other areas of the room instead of all watching a single angle on zoom. Interesting items found will also appear on Telescape so players can have a look at it while the rest can guide the game master to other areas to save time. When I first played Betrayal, I was amazed by its set design and apparently, this is what Exit19 is known for. Curse of Maya Treasure is the same. Although it wasn't as big as Betrayal and there were less 'wow' moments, the set design looks exactly like a Mayan Temple. It was jam packed with stuff all around, and every single item was used as a puzzle. You have snakes, scarabs, scorpions, totems, statues, hieroglyphics and so on. Things were everywhere and it was very confusing to decide where you wanted to look at first! Luckily, we had a kind explorer as our game master and she slowly walked around the perimeter of the room so that we could go through it slowly. For the puzzles, this room is actually on the easier side compared to Betrayal. If I did not need to write down much notes, it means everything is basically physical tasks and/or straightforward. Once you see the clue, you will know what to do with it. There were some mechanisms that I didn't think were possible but it was. Definitely curious to know how they implemented this electrical technology, but I will never know. Haha In conclusion, you should not be undergoing a brain workout while playing this. This room is just pure fun. And fun doesn't mean you need to solve a lot of puzzles! You can be going on an adventure and it is still considered fun. Based on the room size, if you were to play it remotely, I wouldn't recommend more than 5 people as some areas are quite narrow and it is not as spacious as the other room. I heard that Betrayal is not even their largest room, so I would love the chance to play all of their rooms one day! This has been another good experience for me, which says a lot of the standard Exit19 provides in their rooms. _____________________________________________________________ Helen B. Well this definitely wins my award for most beautiful room I have played so far! Another avatar-based game from Exit-19 which combines your live avatar and a cameraperson in the room interacting, while you can browse the room at leisure on Telescape and see anything in detail when triggered by the team. The room is fantastically decorated and themed, with beautiful paintings, carvings and every inch of the room is considered. The attention to detail is phenomenal. Our host played a suitably naive girl looking for her grandfather and we explored the room looking for clues to his whereabouts. The puzzles were a lovely mix and reminded me a lot of the Aztec zone in the Crystal maze in terms of look and style. There were clever physical manipulations, levers, locks, jigsaws, placement puzzles, codes and more. It kept us thinking all the way through! The only thing I found hard was discerning between the colours of some of the items shown to us, but luckily the GM described everything well to us. I highly recommend this room to anyone as it is just so beautiful, intricate and clever. *** This game can no longer be booked as a remote game but can still be booked as an in-person experience *** (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) - REMOTE: Exit19.pl - "Betrayal in Breslau"
Videos & Photos provided by Exit19.pl Company: Exit19.pl Game: Betrayal in Breslau Country: Poland 🇵🇱 Language: English, Polish Type of Game: Remote Escape Room 🗣 Genre: Detective, Crime Date Played: 6/5/2021 Difficulty (based on 4 players): 5/10 Size of Team: 2-7 Players (Ages 16+) Time: 75 Minutes Price: Approx $110 🆃🅷🅴 🆂🆃🅾🆁🆈 It is the year 1938. Mr. Kalus suspects his wife is having an affair with Gunter Wolf. You are the second detective Mr. Kalus has decided to hire to investigate Mr. Wolf's apartment. The first one never made it out. Do you dare to enter his apartment while he's running some errands? Quick! Time is running out... 🆃🅷🅴 🅶🅰🅼🅴 🅿🅻🅰🆈 This is a avatar-led remote escape room experience played over Zoom. You'll also have an inventory system to accompany the game. An extra perk for this game is that not only will you have an avatar but a camera person as well. It definitely improved the picture stabilization for the players. In the inventory system, you'll receive a 360 view of the room which really helped us in terms of navigating the avatar. Although after playing so many online games, our pro tip for you is to just go around the room from left to right. Online play is not like in person since there's only one avatar doing everything. You'll save a lot of game play time and it makes the avatar's job easier too for not having to run back and forth so much. The avatar was intuitive enough to follow our lead on exploring and opening items. He also knew when it was appropriate to nudge us on places we were unable or can't see clearly through the camera. I wish they were able to utilize Telescape's functionality a bit more like removing the photos we've used and putting in some interactive puzzles that we could do instead of watching the avatar. Currently the game could even go without the Telescape system but it would definitely make the game step up a notch when it could be put into appropriate use. This room is pretty spacious so you'll have plenty of places to explore and we were pleasantly surprised in a few cases with the hidden elements. 🆃🅷🅴 🅿🆄🆉🆉🅻🅴🆂 Since the game is set in the 1930s, it's natural to see more usage with padlocks and hidden compartments rather than tech. Their utilization of some of the props in puzzles were in ways we haven't seen before. The room is full of dark secrets that slowly pealed away as we uncovered them through the locked compartments. We really liked that anticipation. Most of the puzzles were on the easier side for enthusiasts but there's still a lot to do. There's a few puzzles that we felt could have translated better with the utilization of Telescape as currently it's hard to see and verbalize to the avatar. We have given our suggestions to the creators so hopefully you'll see some revisions during your game play. 🅲🅻🅾🆂🅸🅽🅶 🆃🅷🅾🆄🅶🅷🆃🆂 I'm a big fan of Exit19.pl's set design so it's a bummer that I have to play these games over the internet rather than IRL. The items used in the game felt authentic to the 1930s era and everything in the room has a mysterious creepiness to it. The prerecorded videos also helped with building up the suspense. It felt like we're on a movie set. Despite some minor puzzles that didn't translate as well through the online format, this is a really fun room to play. Are you intrigued enough to find out what Mr. Wolf has been hiding in his apartment yet? 𝔼𝕊ℂ𝔸ℙ𝔼𝕋ℍ𝔼ℝ𝕆𝕆𝕄𝕖𝕣𝕤❜ ℙ.𝕀.𝕤❜ 𝕋𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕘𝕙𝕥𝕤 Melvin L. Betrayal in Breslau is a remote escape game where you control an avatar inside a real escape room and tell him/her what you want to explore and open. We were welcomed by our game master in Zoom and he was in character right away. We were supposed to find out what happened to a missing person while the owner of the house is out. Besides zoom, we were also logged into Telescape, as it provides a 360 view of the room as well as an inventory system for important objects we have found. They complemented this very nicely as at certain times, the game master will 'act like something has happened' and there will be a video playing on Telescape. The transition was smooth and it really adds to the immersiveness of the game and storyline. The next thing I want to comment on is that Betrayal in Breslau has one of THE BEST set designs I have ever seen in an escape room. I was so impressed during the experience when more areas were opened up gradually. If I had played this in person, I felt that I would have definitely graded it as the best set design I ever came across. Seriously, it is that amazing. There isn't really any physicality involved such as climbing up and down into shafts and tunnels, but it isn't needed. The whole set up looks like a real Victorian room in the 1800s. It looks like a building was converted into an escape room rather than an escape room built into a building. That is how real it gets. There were also A LOT of puzzles to whet your appetite. When you thought you have used everything you needed already, a new area will open up and you will see even more puzzles. Some rooms give you an item that can be used later, so you know it is not the end. But Betrayal opens a new area with new stuff in it, so you are never quite sure when the end is coming. Their mechanisms were mostly the traditional kind, opening letter and number padlocks. However, there were also other interesting physical tasks involved, two in particular that I really loved which I will not spoil, but 1 requires teamwork and another felt so exciting that it made us feel that we were in a movie. I understand that most rooms now shy away from the traditional padlocks as everyone is amazed by cool technology nowadays, but Betrayal did a very good job of implementing their puzzles. They used almost everything in that room for puzzle solving, including everyday objects. It made every puzzle make sense in the thematic way and it doesn't matter to us that padlocks were used as they were equally fun to unlock and solve. Of course, there were also 1 or 2 cool technologies involved which I will let you explore on your own. Overall, Betrayal is a highly recommended room. The game flow, the puzzles, the story and the set design all went well together and made sense. Now, I heard that their other room, The Time Machine, has an even more elaborate set up. I wonder what else they can do to top this off, and I would certainly love to try all of their rooms in the future. __________________________________________________________ Helen B. Time travel. Is it possible? Well it certainly is in this room by Exit19.pl! You start outside Mr Wolf's apartment with the intention of finding a missing woman. Dare you enter the apartment after watching the video of Mr Wolf acting suspiciously? Well your avatar hopes you will help so we plunged in! The avatar is backed up with a telescope screen where you can look around at your own pace, which really helps, and the filming is done by another person so the avatar is free to speak to you and move around which is really good! The room design is superb, with lots of age appropriate props, plenty of hiding places and some very very clever use of everyday objects. I made a TONNE of notes for this game, there was so much to remember! There was a very clever use of the avatar revealing something to which a video then played to continue the story, and this gave the avatar time to move to a new place or change something in the scenery which was always a great surprise! The room just kept going and it was more like watching immersive theatre at times - very enjoyable. My only addition to the gameplay would be to add more things to the telescape system that we might need to read close up or consider in more detail, as we struggled at times to see clearly enough on camera, especially writing, which there was a lot of, and I found we had moved on before I had a chance to write down all the info. This room gets a big recommendation from me as well as the guy who was our avatar - he gave the right amount of nudges, and was entertaining too. *** This game can no longer be booked as a remote game but can still be booked as an in-person experience *** (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) It seems like a Golden statue has been stolen years ago from a temple in the tropical jungle. Maybe you can help the professor recover this artifact? 🆃🅷🅴 🅶🅰🅼🅴 🅿🅻🅰🆈 Kasia, our avatar was in character from the start of the game. She was dressed ready for an "Indiana Jones" adventure. We also had a camera man that accompanied her for the entire game play. There was no inventory portal for the game but the creator did inform us that an App is coming soon to fix this issue. The set design was spectacular with lots of books, artifacts, and maps from various countries in the world. And if you were amazed by the beginning of the game, wait till what's in store for you later on...However because there's so much to see in the room, we felt a bit overwhelmed. The "searching" took a good amount of time since we had to inform the avatar to pick up every item as it was necessary for some puzzle components. It was very helpful that the avatar swayed us away from items that were not part of the game play. The storyline was great. We had a clear understanding on what we needed to accomplish in order to achieve the ending. 🆃🅷🅴 🅿🆄🆉🆉🅻🅴🆂 We really enjoyed watching the special effects that were created by completing certain puzzles. The paired sound effects also accompany the theme really well. There were some creative puzzles we haven't seen in awhile used in this room. A few of them needed a closer look (some also involved reading and various identifications of symbols) and an inventory system would've definitely helped at those situations. The puzzles were also non-linear. It would've been easily categorized as a "divide and conquer" room if you were to play this in person but due to the current set up of no inventory system, we were only able to play it as a group in a linear way. 🅲🅻🅾🆂🅸🅽🅶 🆃🅷🅾🆄🅶🅷🆃🆂 We love Mayan Temple themed rooms. The thought of being in a jungle and looking at ancient symbols takes us out of reality right away. This could be a really solid room once its paired with an inventory system. If you were to give it a try right now, I would advise to use your cell phone as a tool to take photos (of course delete them after the game) so that you can enjoy a smoother game play. 𝔼𝕊ℂ𝔸ℙ𝔼𝕋ℍ𝔼ℝ𝕆𝕆𝕄𝕖𝕣𝕤❜ ℙ.𝕀.𝕤❜ 𝕋𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕘𝕙𝕥𝕤 Sarah D. Overall set design was very high quality. There were many impressive hi-tech tricks and effects. We quite liked the sound effect feedback when you achieved something in the game, like an audio “pat on the back”. There was a LOT to look at. As soon as the game started I was thinking, how will we take all that in? Our host did a great job taking us through everything, even when we requested to look at additional items, or to have a second look at something. The puzzles were complex enough to be very satisfying when solved, but not so complex that you lose the logical path. Our host was on-screen at all times, sort of like a tour guide at a museum, being filmed by a second person. Although this wasn’t necessarily a negative, I can’t help but feel as though the “avatar” perspective is more immersive, and less like a tour? One small complaint: there was a small item we missed despite a couple of inspections of the area, because it was not visible through the lens of the computer screen. Maybe it needs to be made more visible, or pointed out by the guide? When it came to printed material & maps it would have been very helpful for each player to be able to look at these things in their own time and in detail. But our host assured us that an inventory system to do this is in the works. Our overall feeling of the experience was very positive, it was an excellent game with a lot of thought and time put into it. Not just “a pretty face” it had both impressive set design and equally good puzzle design and game flow. ______________________________________________________________ AJ G. Things I liked: · Host (avatar) was very engaging and easy to understand · Puzzles- The puzzles were unique and fun. Really liked the multistep approach to solving the puzzles. · Story line/Immersion- Had a solid and consistent story line and all the rooms were very immersive. Things that I felt could use improvement: · Lack of inventory system- An inventory system with a 360° interactive “map” of the room is essential for an online avatar game. In addition to all actions being funneled down through the one avatar it felt a little spoon fed with the artifacts. Additionally, without an inventory system, I would remove a few of the extra artifacts that are not used for the game. · One of the provided graphics appeared to be mirrored. Not sure if this was intentional or not. I would recommend this game to be played in person. Would not recommend the game as an avatar game until the inventory system is functional. *** This game can no longer be booked as a remote game but can still be booked as an in-person experience *** (If you do decide to try this experience, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!)
