Photos above are property of The Mysterious Package Company Company: The Mysterious Package Company Game: HASTUR Country: Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Language: English Type of Game: Puzzles By Mail πŸ“¬ Genre: Horror, Mystery, Occult, Lovecraftian Date Played: April 2, 2021 Difficulty (based on 2 players): 8/10 Size of Team: Unlimited Time: Unlimited (Suggested 6 Hrs) Price: $299.99 πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ†‚πŸ†ƒπŸ…ΎπŸ†πŸ†ˆ A strange letter arrives at your door with a ticket for a performance that you have only missed by a few days. As you begin looking into the strange happenstances surrounding you acquiring of this ticket you learn all is not as it seems with β€œThe King in Yellow” performance by Phantom of Truth Productions. An ongoing investigation, a curious wooded crate packed with relics, and a temptation to learn about the King in Yellow offers you a chance to explore the chaos and calamity that is HASTUR. Video above is property of The Mysterious Package Company πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ βžπŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ…ΎπŸ…ΊπŸ†‚βž Hastur is an at home experience that comes in two separate mailings. The first mailing includes an invitation to the performance of β€œThe King in Yellow” and a letter from the ticket agency. The second mailing arrives in a wooden crate nailed shut that contains a statue of a primordial being, aged rune scrolls, star charts, a wax tablet, a curious stone bowl, and a dossier of papers streaked with blood that will help you piece together the mystery of what happened at this performance and what roll you now must play. This game requires no outside research but there is some online content you must access related to mailing one and the conclusion of mailing two. One thing MPC has excelled at countless times is creating true art pieces with their games. Pages are aged, bloodied, wrinkled, coffee stained, and smeared with dirt while the box smells old as if the contents have not been seen in decades. All your senses are engaged as you literally pry open the box and dig into the contents. You feel truly involved, as if you are really unwrapping an ancient antiquity with a mysterious past. This game is definitely display-worthy… if you don’t mind a statue of HASTUR in your curio cabinet. Photo above are property of The Mysterious Package Company πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΆπŸ…°πŸ…ΌπŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ…»πŸ…°πŸ†ˆ The opening mailing of HASTUR seeks to tempt you. You will explore what looks to be a regular website and the ultimately you end knowing why and how you will be receiving a second mailing. There is a slight delay in one element as you must wait on an email at a certain point but the eeriness of this first mailing helps lay the platform for the second mailing. This mailing is all about exploring rather than puzzles so don’t be afraid to click all the links. The second mailing brings you into the calamity. There are two avenues of exploration. On one hand there is a large aged scroll that contains a ritual that is begging your attention but on the other hand is a curious stack of newspapers, pamphlets, and various other ephemera that reveals a strange series of events. The scroll (and accompanying ritualistic items) contain the puzzles while the stack of papers builds the narrative. This experience is based off of Lovecraftian lore and while you do not need to know anything to play the game, this stack helps piece the story together for you so I recommend unpacking that before beginning the ritual. Photos above are properties of ESCAPETHEROOMers πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ†„πŸ†‰πŸ†‰πŸ…»πŸ…΄πŸ†‚ As mentioned above, the initial mailing doesn’t necessarily have a puzzle aspect. It is more exploration to find hidden information that will lead you to a clear ending of mailing one. Mailing two has a linear puzzle system as you move through a series of steps in the ritual. As you complete each step the puzzles become increasingly difficult as you translate runic symbols, match strange scrolls with mythological events, orient star charts to learn constellations, and more. Each puzzle is layered to build off another which means you need to be careful as mistake can throw the final step off. Take careful notes as you move forward as you may need to backtrack to make slight corrections. There is no hint system for any Mysterious Package Company games so I encourage you to join Puzzle People Facebook Group to ask for help or contact MPC at concierge@mysteriouspackage.com for assistance (there will likely be a delay in assistance). What I loved most about these puzzles was that they involve a lot of physical interaction with the game components as you turn, flip, roll, and rotate. This helps players really connect and feel immersed. You become an active participant in bringing this ritual to life. Each ritual step encourages you to look at the board in a different light and there is an ambiance of mystery and intrigue as you continued on your journey with each solution. These puzzles work to aid the narrative rather than hinder it because they are thematic and woven carefully into the components. As such, they provide a balance of challenge and complexity that provides the best β€œaha” moments. πŸ…²πŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ†‚πŸ…ΈπŸ…½πŸ…Ά πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…ΎπŸ†„πŸ…ΆπŸ…·πŸ†ƒπŸ†‚ HASTUR is, to me, the best puzzle immersive experience that MPC has to offer. The narrative is rich with lore and works seamlessly to share a fascinating story alongside challenging yet rewarding puzzles. Over the course of your journey you become privy to secrets that have been hidden for centuries and each puzzles brings you closer to the truth. At the end, though, you must make a choice based on all you learned. Will you help HASTUR or will you save us from his madness? • Mysterious Package Company - "The Buried Puppet"

Photo above is property of The Mysterious Package Company Company: The Mysterious Package Company Game: The Buried Puppet Country: Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Language: English Type of Game: Tabletop Games πŸ“¬ Genre: Supernatural, Horror Date Played: January 25, 2022 Difficulty (based on 1 player): 4/10 Size of Team: Unlimited (Recommend 1-3 ppl) Time: Unlimited (Suggested 1-2 Hrs) Price: $99.99 πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ†‚πŸ†ƒπŸ…ΎπŸ†πŸ†ˆ Finding a crate on your doorstep, inside you find the confessions of a young teenage boy named Jacob who after moving to a new city, is bullied and discovers ghosts coming from the bedroom walls of his new house. His only solace is a puppet he finds in the house named Mr. Bellylaugh. Mr Bellylaugh gives Jacob the courage he needs to face the bullies and ghosts but what are Mr. Bellylaugh’s true intentions? Video above is property of The Mysterious Package Company πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ βžπŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ…ΎπŸ…ΊπŸ†‚βž Opening up the wooden crate, inside you will find 2 ripped pages from a magazine, a prisoner release order, a broken inhaler, a library card, a journal from a correctional institute, and a disheveled puppet with the name Mr. Bellylaugh on it. All of these will factor into the story. If you are familiar with Mysterious Package Company, then you are aware that they do not joke around with their items. Everything you get will be top notch, first rate and are very real for the experience. Photo above are property of The Mysterious Package Company πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΆπŸ…°πŸ…ΌπŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ…»πŸ…°πŸ†ˆ Sifting through the documents, you will find some tidbits here and there about Jacob and Mr. Bellylaugh’s backstory but you will get to Jacob’s journal which will be the key element for the experience. Reading through it, every other item will either add to the experience or you will learn how to use it as you progress. There is one online component that is done very well and has a full ARG style that I did start clicking around to see how far I could go into that world. While there is no hint system, you can google some forums that can give you a nudge in the right direction. Other options are contacting MPC at concierge@mysteriouspackage.com (though you may not get an answer right away) or joining the Puzzle People Facebook group. There is also no solid ending to the game and you can be left wondering if the experience is over or not. After scouring the internet, I found one good hint that some people have posted is when you finish reading the green text, then the experience is over (and you can do what you will with the contents). Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ†„πŸ†‰πŸ†‰πŸ…»πŸ…΄πŸ†‚ This was a pretty low puzzle content game with more of a focus on deduction and how to use certain elements. There is one puzzle that is hidden but with a keen eye or if you are familiar with puzzle games already, you will probably spot right away. If not, I found MPC did a good job of pointing you in the right direction and giving you the relevant information to solve it. Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers πŸ…²πŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ†‚πŸ…ΈπŸ…½πŸ…Ά πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…ΎπŸ†„πŸ…ΆπŸ…·πŸ†ƒπŸ†‚ The Mysterious Package Company creates some amazing, immersive experiences. This one was not very puzzle heavy but shines in engulfing you in the story. This one played out like a horror movie except this time, you are the protagonist. If you are unsure about the scare level in this game, this was more of a light psychological scare than a game with jump scares. I did play this game in the middle of day but if you are brave enough, a nighttime setting would be optimal. Mysterious Package Company puts a lot of effort into making all the items feel real as you play which will immerse you and make you question how real this story truly is. • Mysterious Package Company - "NYARLATHOTEP"

Photo above is property of The Mysterious Package Company Company: The Mysterious Package Company Game: NYARLATHOTEP Country: Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Language: English Type of Game: Puzzles By Mail πŸ“¬ Genre: Supernatural, Horror, Occult, HP Lovecraft Date Played: October 21, 2021 Difficulty (based on 1 player): 8/10 Size of Team: Unlimited (Recommend 1-4 ppl) (Ages 16+) Time: Unlimited (Approximately 8 Hrs) Price: $329.99 πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ†‚πŸ†ƒπŸ…ΎπŸ†πŸ†ˆ A large package arrives on your doorstep. Inside is a wooden crate nailed shut, a coffee mug, a work badge, and a welcome letter after you supposedly accepted a new job at Kauket Analytics and Operating System. Your predecessor left the position quite suddenly and the company needs you to continue his research quickly. They are sending you everything that was on his desk pertaining to his research, but it’ll need to be sent over two mailings. As you begin to examine the artifacts, antique documents, and online articles available you to you start to piece together the story of two men, an ancient Egyptian archeological site, and a group of modern researched dedicated to unraveling the mysteries of what these men uncovered. You get the sense that some things are best left alone…but curiosity is a fickle beast and you dive right in. Video above is property of The Mysterious Package Company πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ βžπŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ…ΎπŸ…ΊπŸ†‚βž " Nyarlothotep " is a massive puzzling package consisting of two hefty wooden crates being mailed to you over the course of four weeks. In the first crate you receive a welcome letter, Kauket coffee mug (fill it with hot water!), your ID badge with QR code, your predecessors ID badge, a broken carving, a curious obelisk, a cigar box filled with letters, an old pocket watch, and more. In the second crate you receive a large statue with faces on it, two daggers, a journal log, a large map, photos of your predecessor’s parents, his journal notes, a large pen, and more. This game is incredible looking down to the aged look of the daggers, the worn pages of your predecessor’s diary, and the innocuous photos of his parents. I felt like a kid in a candy story pulling all these items out of the box and eagerly looking them over. Of note, there is an online app (mihOS) required for this game that requires iOS and android 11 or higher. There is no hint system for this game, but you can reach out to the company for help or ask on a puzzle forum like Puzzle People on Facebook. Photo above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΆπŸ…°πŸ…ΌπŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ…»πŸ…°πŸ†ˆ This game is intended for more open exploration but in Crate One the main goal is to investigate the mysteries behind the app, mihOS. Your predecessor did not leave a lot of information on the app but you have a sense there is something hidden with and there must be something in the crate that will crack it open. In Crate Two, you learn more about the research team behind the app and their journey to build it. They’ve left something unfinished, and you must figure out what they discovered in order to finish their work. That said, there are quite a few mini experiences to unravel from strange messages you find, locked files, and conversations that you are encouraged to read. These bits and bite help build a better image of what has taken place…and what is currently happening. Think of this in terms of side quests and main quests. The more you do the better you will feel about the experience. There is quite a bit of reading that takes place in this experience as you have letters, logs, journals, emails, texts, messages, etc to unpack. There is also a USB in this game. If you are uncomfortable inserting those into your computer, you can email the concierge of MPC to ask for the file to be sent over. Noting again that the app used in this experience requires a lot of power. My phone did heat up quite a bit so I recommend having your phone near a fan or something cool if you worry about overheating. Photo above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ†„πŸ†‰πŸ†‰πŸ…»πŸ…΄πŸ†‚ For Crate One , there is one prominent puzzle that takes the stage with a few smaller ones that I would better describe as more fun nods to the theme and story than actually contributing to the overarching narrative. The fun side puzzles are mainly cipher based while the prominent one is a multistep puzzle. It relies on observation and pattern recognition and it an extensive puzzle that took me about around three hours to complete. It isn’t a hard puzzle, but I highly recommend having a pen and paper available to track your steps as you navigate this puzzle because you can easily become lost. In Crate Two, there are quite a few puzzles. Much like Crate One , there are some smaller puzzles that are more atmospheric than integral to the story. This crate was a great deal more cipher heavy of a game, but it is broken up into chunks to help with pacing. I enjoyed how easily I was able to divide up the puzzles so my partner and I could be working on something separately. We would then come back together and discuss what we learned. The main puzzles provided great β€œaha” moments when you figured out their connection and I also appreciated that you were able to figure out how the characters also solved various parts during their journey. It made sense they provided some key information but having the ability to back solve so you could appreciate their journey was a great addition. It is not necessary I would say but if you want the full experience, I recommend taking the time to figure out how the researchers (like your predecessor) made it as far as they did. At the end, you use the tools the characters left behind to solve the final part and it was really satisfying when it clicks together in your head. Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers πŸ…²πŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ†‚πŸ…ΈπŸ…½πŸ…Ά πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…ΎπŸ†„πŸ…ΆπŸ…·πŸ†ƒπŸ†‚ Overall, " Nyarlathotep " is an amazing Lovecraftian themed experience packed with story, mystery, horror, and intrigue while also giving players everything they need uncover the truth and decide for themselves what they will do. The digital elements enhanced the experience to add a lot more engagement but the traditional elements to MPC were still there and I will definitely enjoy displaying them. This experience took about 10 hours (both crates) and while it is expensive, I think the value is there if you appreciate this level of tangibility. If you enjoy collectable components, cool tech, and full immersion with a strong narrative, then this is a great option for people with bigger budgets. I recommend playing with another person to get the true joy as you band together to learn the truth. If you want something a little cheaper with a similar feel, check out our review of HASTUR. • Mysterious Package Company: The Curious Correspondence Club - "Chapter I: The Custodian's Keys"

Photo above provided by The Curious Correspondence Club Company: The Curious Correspondence Club Game: Chapter I: The Custodian's Keys Country: Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Language: English Type of Game: Puzzles By Mail πŸ“¬ Genre: Mystery Date Played: 9/16/2020 Difficulty (based on 2 players): 5.5/10 Size of Team: Unlimited (Age 12+) Time: 60-90 minutes (Approximately) Price: $21.95 (free shipping in North America); Monthly Subscription: $19.95/Yearly Subscription: $179 Video above provided by The Curious Correspondence Club Our first Chapter from The Curious Correspondence Club came in an intricately designed envelope. As we "unlocked" the flaps, our adventure began. The story was printed right on the back of the envelope. It seemed like we've just walked into the M.B. Franklin Museum of Natural History. Inside, we had a peculiar meeting with the custodian (or so we thought...). There's definitely more to this place than meets the eye... Photos above provided by The Curious Correspondence Club Chapter 1 came with the outer envelope, a museum ticket, 6 museum tiles, 6 custodian keys, 1 key ring, 1 exhibit lock, 1 custodian note, 1 torn museum sign and 1 souvenir notepaper. A website was provided for easy access to hints/solutions and for entering the last code to reveal the final ending. One thing we would've liked would be a place online where we could enter our answers to check if we got the individual puzzles correct or not (rather than going through the hint section). It would make use feel like we've actually unlocked that passage and would be allowed to move on to the next one. If you were unsure on where to began, reading the custodian's note would be a great place to start. Once we knew what we needed to find, we started to put the clue pieces together. This game was a game of discovery. There were always moments where we felt like our search led us to questions like: "where have we seen this before?" or "oh, so that's what it's used for". As we went through the different exhibits in the museum, each gave us a glimpse of the history and story behind the artifacts. We can definitely see being used for educational purposes. If you are very observant, the puzzles should not be difficult for you. The only part that stumped us for a bit was how to use the keys. These were by far the BIGGEST keys we've gotten in terms of props in a game. It was definitely a "wow moment" for us when we discovered how it was supposed to be used as it felt like a real experience but designed with embedded puzzles. You may also find items/images you might not use in this game. These were merely items that will connect the stories together in the next mailer as legend has it there were 12 curious treasures that fell to Earth long ago. I'm not sure about you but I'm totally excited to be part of this secret society to help to seek and protect these artifacts when they come to light. Stay tuned and see where the next adventure will take us in Chapter 2! • Mysterious Package Company: The Curious Correspondence Club - "Chapter II: Warehouse on the Wharf"

Photo above provided by The Curious Correspondence Club Company: The Curious Correspondence Club Game: Chapter II: Warehouse On The Wharf Country: Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Language: English Type of Game: Puzzles By Mail πŸ“¬ Genre: Mystery Date Played: 10/9/2020 Difficulty (based on 2 players): 8.5/10 Size of Team: Unlimited (Age 12+) Time: Unlimited (Suggested: 60-90 Minutes) Price : $21.95 (free shipping in North America); Monthly Subscription: $19.95/Yearly Subscription: $179 πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ†‚πŸ†ƒπŸ…ΎπŸ†πŸ†ˆ You found yourself at a mysterious shipping yard covered in thick fog. Other than the documents you were given, you see nothing but a few shipping crates and barrels. Will that be enough for you to uncover the secrets within this creepy shipping dock? Video/ Photos above provided by The Curious Correspondence Club πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ βžπŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ…ΎπŸ…ΊπŸ†‚βž Similar to the packaging in Chapter I, you'll receive Chapter II in an envelope with a different but equally pretty sticker. The back story is printed on the inside of the envelope so open with care. Inside you'll find 1 strong box, 1 strong box note, 1 strip of negatives, 1 photographer, 6 cargo crate panels, 1 wharf map, 3 warehouse documents, 1 warehouse clipboard, and 12 crate assembly tabs. We really liked the color choices for the graphics of this game as it created that dark, rusty warehouse vibe. Photos above property of ESCAPETHEROOMers πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΆπŸ…°πŸ…ΌπŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ…»πŸ…°πŸ†ˆ This game needs to be played in a linear fashion. We strongly recommend reading the your objectives before starting the game. It'll be much either to organize the clues together. As we ventured through the game, it felt like we're part of an action movie. From identifying the whereabouts of the entrance to the correct warehouse to looking for the artifacts in the right crate to ultimately escaping by sending out the proper distress signal, the entire game felt like a "007" assignment. You'll have your "M" to help you out incase you get stuck. As were game pieces that needed to be constructed in this game, we really appreciated the photo aspect of it in the hint system showing that final look. Photos above provided by The Curious Correspondence Club πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ†„πŸ†‰πŸ†‰πŸ…»πŸ…΄πŸ†‚ The puzzles were definitely harder than the first game but that might differ from person to person. If you are good with sp atial visualization some of these puzzles may be a breeze for you. We had a difficult time with one of them but good thing the hint system was quite helpful. Although the puzzle itself was difficult to solve, it was still our favorite from a design aspect. We really like the interactive aspect of puzzle pieces especially when it's closely tied in with the storyline. There's essentially 4 puzzles in the game before you get to the finish line. If you want to know if you got the previous answers correctly, you'll need to go to the hint section and click the solution button. It would be great if we could have a separate portal to enter the individual solutions instead of just having a place to enter the final solution incase players doesn't want to go to the hint section to avoid accidental spoilers. πŸ…²πŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ†‚πŸ…ΈπŸ…½πŸ…Ά πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…ΎπŸ†„πŸ…ΆπŸ…·πŸ†ƒ This was a cool concept of closely connecting the storyline and the actual pieces being used in a puzzle game. We were surprised at how much play time we got out of one little envelope. We suggest using the hints if you get stuck on a puzzle for too long as it does take the fun out of it. Regardless you should definitely attempt the "arts and craft" aspect of the game. It does make it stand out from some of the tabletop games we've seen. The old man at the workshop seems to be hiding something...perhaps a long lost secret? πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ βžπŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ…ΎπŸ…ΊπŸ†‚βž Similar to the previous games, the game components came in a pretty envelope with a sticker particular to this chapter. I did notice that they've improved on the glue that they've used from the previous envelopes as it's much easier to rip open how without getting the envelope destroyed. You'll want to be careful when opening up the envelope as the storyline is printed on the inside of it. The game components include: 1 leather pouch, 1 reversible workstation/patent certificate, 1 newspaper clipping, 3 invention schematics and 1 mechanical device. Photos above provided by The Curious Correspondence Club πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΆπŸ…°πŸ…ΌπŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ…»πŸ…°πŸ†ˆ The Curious Correspondence Club has a great writer. We are able to clearly visualize the story setting once we started to read the back story. This one in particular not only provided visual sensations but also audio and smell. We were able to sense everything as we "walked" down the alleyways. From the first look, you might be scared from all the gears and schematics as it looked like only an engineer would be able to complete this game. Once you understood what you're looking for and follow the clues that pertains to that specific puzzle number, you should be able to figure out the solution. If you still have issues, there's a detailed hint system on their website. We really loved this game. Initially we thought it was going to be a lot of decoding (and there was a bunch) but not in the way we imagined. Sticking with the idea of watches and gears, the puzzle design perfectly utilized those components to reveal their secrets. You should pay attention to every piece of paper (even ones you think might not be important) as there were a lot of hidden reveals. The physical construction aspect of the game pieces has always been a favorite feature of ours and The Curious Correspondence Club definitely outdid themselves with this one. This chapter had 1 reversible arithmascope body, 1 chapter envelope, 5 reversible tents, 2 scope lenses, 2 scope drums, 1 reversible camp mats, 2 invention schematics, 1 flashlight bulb and 1 ticker's note. Photos above provided by The Curious Correspondence Club πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΆπŸ…°πŸ…ΌπŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ…»πŸ…°πŸ†ˆ With all of the games from The Curious Correspondence Club, we always feel that we're trying to recreate the scene from the backstory. This chapter felt closest to reality in terms of what we're able to "build" out. Through the subtle hints on the memo paper, we're able to follow the character's actions as he descends to the camp grounds. Once he reaches the ground, we're able to assist him by making tools that he'll need on the mission. There were a lot of assembling needed for this mission. The only complaint we had was the fact that some insertions kept falling out and we had to hold it wit our hands while playing through the game since we needed to use them to decode, It felt quite cumbersome since we had to use the same paper for multiple purposes. you really had to handle the parts with care as due to the various ways we had to use them, some parts were breaking apart. Other than the issues with the construction, the idea was super clever. We loved the transformation of the clue papers and how we were able to utilize them for different purposes. Photos above are properties of ESCAPETHEROOMers πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ†„πŸ†‰πŸ†‰πŸ…»πŸ…΄πŸ†‚ The puzzles were more intricate than the previous chapters. We did have to use hints for some parts. It would help to have photos in the hint section for this chapter since at times we're unsure if we had the items assembled correctly or not. Some solutions were not matching up to what we've had after the construction was completed and we couldn't tell what we did wrong even with the hints. Our favorite puzzle in this chapter was a visualization puzzle. I was amazed at what was happening once all the components were placed in the right positions. It also seamlessly tied in with the storyline. πŸ…²πŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ†‚πŸ…ΈπŸ…½πŸ…Ά πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…ΎπŸ†„πŸ…ΆπŸ…·πŸ†ƒπŸ†‚ This chapter's concept having us "assemble" the storyline was amazing. The way the creator was able to design puzzles with so many of these reversible puzzle pieces was something we haven't seen before. If they were able to make the insertions on the assemble parts bit more sturdy and easier to join together, it would have made the game even more enjoyable. We have always been big fans of The Curious Correspondence Club's ingenuity. I can't wait to see what we'll be able to "create" in the next chapter! Millie, provided us with her father's journal. This should help us uncover the next artifact. πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ βžπŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ…ΎπŸ…ΊπŸ†‚βž Chapter V came packaged in the same style as the previous games. You'll receive the backstory inside the envelope so open with care. Inside the envelope, you'll discover a torn journal page, a field journal, a field guide page, Millie's Note paper, 4 dig site photographs, a reversible ruin mat, 4 reversible stone tiles and a excavation trowel. Photos above provided by The Curious Correspondence Club πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΆπŸ…°πŸ…ΌπŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ…»πŸ…°πŸ†ˆ You'll need to be a good reader and instruction follower for this game. Most of the game play will depend on how well you can understand the journal. Mille's father has left instructions on what he has discovered inside the temple. You'll be following his footsteps to discover which spots are the right ones to dig and how to interpret the findings. The Curious Correspondence Club is great at creating innovative "gadgets" from paper. This time the cool little shovel and the scratch offs really gave us that "digging" sensation (although we still ended up using a coin as it didn't quite do the job but we still appreciated the idea). Photos above provided by ESCAPETHEROOMers πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ†„πŸ†‰πŸ†‰πŸ…»πŸ…΄πŸ†‚ Since there are 4 sacred sections you'll need to explore in this temple, there will repetitive steps you will have to take to solve some of the puzzles. If you are confused on how to start, we strongly suggest looking at the hints. Once you're on the right path, come back and repeat the steps for the other sections of the puzzles. This was definitely a challenging chapter so don't be shy on taking hints. There were several steps you'll have to take before reaching a solution. Since the puzzles were linear, if you started with the wrong idea, you won't be able to continue with the journey. When we finally realized how everything worked together, we're impressed by the thought process behind the puzzle maker. Photos above provided by ESCAPETHEROOMers πŸ…²πŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ†‚πŸ…ΈπŸ…½πŸ…Ά πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…ΎπŸ†„πŸ…ΆπŸ…·πŸ†ƒπŸ†‚ The Curious Correspondence Club loves to let the players build their own playing grounds and this time was no exception. We constructed our own temple map, excavated the marked spots, and figured out the meanings behind the sacred shrine and symbols. These clues eventually led us to the artifact. The journey was definitely not an easy one but who said retrieving artifact was going to be an easy job? We finally have 5 in our hands now. Where could the 6th one be? I mean there's got to be a hidden passage somewhere right? It's time to begin our exploration... πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ βžπŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ…ΎπŸ…ΊπŸ†‚βž Normally we're not big fans of reading materials, but we absolutely love the writer behind The Curious Correspondence Club's narratives. They are very descriptive. As you read through the words, they will create images, sounds and sometimes even smell in your mind. So make sure not to skip the backstory that's printed inside the envelope. In this chapter, you'll receive 1 anonymous note, 5 reversible room tiles, 1 manor key, 1 reversible portrait, and 1 interactive bookcase. Photos above provided by The Curious Correspondence Club πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΆπŸ…°πŸ…ΌπŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ…»πŸ…°πŸ†ˆ Your better equip yourself with a magnifying glass and some good lighting for this game. We had a few "finding Waldo" moments but it definitely went along with the theme of "exploring" the manor. We really loved the graphics in this chapter. As you go through the 5 different rooms in the manor, you'll discover various embedded puzzles. The hidden elements really bought out the mysterious vibe of an old manor. The design of how to decode the passwords in this chapter was also quite clever. Certain aspects of the game made us feel like we were in an escape room. Photos above provided by ESCAPETHEROOMers πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ†„πŸ†‰πŸ†‰πŸ…»πŸ…΄πŸ†‚ The puzzles in this chapter were a lot of fun. Maybe it's because we felt like we could relate them to ones we've seen in escape rooms. There were a lot of discoveries and associations to be made throughout each area of the manor. When we made the connection ourselves, we felt quite proud and patted ourselves on our backs. When we didn't and saw the hint on how the puzzle worked, we were still impressed by how the creator was able to come up with that puzzle. There were many "wow" and "duh" moments in this game. If you are good at searching, with a good amount of patience, you should have no issues with these puzzles. We love how the concept of their puzzles are always trying to create the physical setting of the space we're in. This time we were able to explore the manor, use a key, decipher hidden areas and eventually retrieve the artifact. My favorite moment in this game was when Brandon and I were racing to find an item with each other and bumped each other in the head. It was definitely an "ouch" yet funny moment at the same time. Photos above provided by The Curious Correspondence Club πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΆπŸ…°πŸ…ΌπŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ…»πŸ…°πŸ†ˆ You might be overwhelmed by the amount of props that came with this game. But you'll quickly notice that there are various slits on different clue pieces. It might help to assemble some pieces together first. Definitely start off by reading the data printout. We found some valuable clues on there and was able to use those clues to thread the information together. As always, it's very important to be observant for The Curious Correspondence Club 's games. They are great with hiding details in their graphics. We definitely missed a few. We love the fact that they use a lot of tactile puzzles and can turn simple paper clues into 2D/3D props. In this chapter, we essentially build out a computer. The utilization of the mouse as how it would be in real life was very clever as well. Photos above property of ESCAPETHEROOMers πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ†„πŸ†‰πŸ†‰πŸ…»πŸ…΄πŸ†‚ This was another challenging game from The Curious Correspondence Club . The puzzles were not too difficult once you recognize what they're looking for and could follow their thought process. The tough part was where to get started. One thing that did take us a long time to figure out was recognizing the hidden embedded codes. You really needed to have good eyesight for this game. It would've helped if the clues were bigger as they felt too crammed together for us to easily notice the embedded message. Once we knew what we're looking for, we had to use hints to bypass a few. We definitely recommend using the hint guide for this game to make sure you assemble everything correctly before going down a rabbit hole. The hint system was quite useful in this game as it doesn't just have the nudging hints but you'll also get photos of the finished assembly. Photos above property of ESCAPETHEROOMers πŸ…²πŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ†‚πŸ…ΈπŸ…½πŸ…Ά πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…ΎπŸ†„πŸ…ΆπŸ…·πŸ†ƒπŸ†‚ Although we weren't able to complete all the puzzles on our own, it was still great to be able see the process. Not many puzzle companies we've seen could use their paper clues to tell a story so vividly. Perhaps I just really like tactile puzzles but it's a lot more engaging than words on a paper or searching on the internet. After reading the backstory, you're able to build out the scenes with the clues provided. This is why we're always very excited to see new chapters of The Curious Correspondence Club in our mailbox. Photos above property of The Curious Correspondence Club πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΆπŸ…°πŸ…ΌπŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ…»πŸ…°πŸ†ˆ At first glance, you might be overwhelmed by the amount of items you've received for this game. Perhaps it's because this is our 8th chapter with CCC that we're finally catching their drift on their game design. It's important to look over everything before picking a point to start as there's always something that serves as a guidance and sometimes there's even a password manager. Like previous games, we had to assemble clue pieces together and many things could be utilized more than once. I love how the creator was able to use simple paper items and modify them into complicated real life tools. We had items like a compass, an axe and even a pocket knife! The graphics were very detailed but also easy to read in comparison to some of their previous games. This made it easier for us to associate the clues that we've discovered with the puzzle elements. Photos above property of ESCAPETHEROOMers πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ†„πŸ†‰πŸ†‰πŸ…»πŸ…΄πŸ†‚ We really enjoyed the puzzles in this game. I think it's the first CCC game that we were able to finish without looking at hints! The puzzles were non-linear so we split up right from the beginning. We were once again amazed by the creator's ability to design the puzzles into the narrative and be able to make the simple paper clues come to live. One minute we're wondering how and where we would use the axe, the next we're wowed by their imagination. The difficulty level felt just right for us as the game gave clear cluing that led us to the right path. Without using a hint to complete this game was a big victory in our books. I would love to see more of this type of difficulty from CCC. I think majority of the players would find puzzles that they don't have to rely on hints to be more enjoyable. This one was another job well done! Photos above provided by The Curious Correspondence Club πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΆπŸ…°πŸ…ΌπŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ…»πŸ…°πŸ†ˆ Normally with " The Curious Correspondence Club" games you'll need to discover the starting point on your own or you can freely choose where to start from. This chapter felt more organized and you actually have a device that will guide you through the steps of the game play. It's definitely necessary as this is another difficult chapter in terms of the puzzles in our opinion. The "CCC" surprised me again on the creative side with the design of this device. It's used both as a guide and a hint giver. If you successfully solve the first 5 puzzles, you'll be facing the final meta puzzle. Don't be shy on using hints from their website as it was great for us to understand what type of answer they are looking for and where to find the correlation. Once we knew that part, it was much easier to solve the remaining puzzles. Photos above are Properties of ESCAPETHEROOMers πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ†„πŸ†‰πŸ†‰πŸ…»πŸ…΄πŸ†‚ Most of the puzzles required multiple steps to get to the solution. Since they are not linear, you can complete them in any order. If you didn't want to use hints, I would suggest picking on an easier puzzle (you'll know which one it is) to find out what type of answer they're looking for. From there you can attempt a harder one and so forth. There's not much "search and find" type of puzzle in this game. We encountered some Math, deduction, decoding, and word puzzles. Make sure you have a lengthy table for the last puzzle. In my opinion, the meta puzzle actually felt like the easiest one out of all the puzzles but it was the most fun to solve since there was some assembling that was involved. Photos above are Properties of ESCAPETHEROOMers πŸ…²πŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ†‚πŸ…ΈπŸ…½πŸ…Ά πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…ΎπŸ†„πŸ…ΆπŸ…·πŸ†ƒπŸ†‚ I feel like I'm just repeating myself at this point but we are big fans of "CCC". I've read mixed reviews on other player's opinion on what they liked about the games and what they didn't and I feel like a lot probably has to do with the difficulty level of the puzzles. It's not really meant for beginner puzzlers and you really need patience with some of the games. I do feel some big changes with the game flow of this game. Although the puzzles are still challenging, there's a much clearer sense of direction for the players to take. What hasn't changed throughout the chapters is the ingenuity of their game design. Every chapter is filled with surprises from simple paper props. You never know what they would transform into. Many times, they are able to create an object or item that you would use in real life. I'm very excited about Chapter 10 as we're about to face something we've long been waiting for... Photos above are properties of ESCAPETHEROOMers πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΆπŸ…°πŸ…ΌπŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ…»πŸ…°πŸ†ˆ Once you see the content of this game, you'll know right away that there's going to be some "construction" action. I'm always quite excited about the assembly part of the game as that's a special trademark for all of The Curious Correspondence Club games . Most of the game play will revolve around the 64th floor's floor plan. In this game, the creator is making the players think about how the story will develop. If you've made it to a floor that's full of security cameras, what would you do next? Perhaps find a route that has defective cameras? Then what? Think about your end goal. We really enjoyed this type of cluing as it's not really through words but through a narrative that you're creating through game play. Photos above are properties of ESCAPETHEROOMers πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ†„πŸ†‰πŸ†‰πŸ…»πŸ…΄πŸ†‚ There's essentially two parts to this game: getting to the designated location on floor 64 and then getting out safely with the artifacts. To us, the puzzles in the first part felt easier as pattern recognition and looking for clues embedded in images felt like puzzles we've seen in escape rooms before. The second part challenged us to construct the puzzle first and then solve them by using a special tool. The game did not come with the tool but it should be a fairly common household item (for experienced puzzlers, you'll definitely have this in some other games you've played before). It would be helpful if the creator could add an image of the constructed image as it was quite difficult to visualize it through the text clues on if we've assemble it correctly or not. Photos above are properties of ESCAPETHEROOMers πŸ…²πŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ†‚πŸ…ΈπŸ…½πŸ…Ά πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…ΎπŸ†„πŸ…ΆπŸ…·πŸ†ƒπŸ†‚ The chapter made us feel like James Bond. Hiding from security cameras, breaking fingerprint scanners, and avoiding laser beams were like things you'll see in a action film. Normally Brandon is not really a fan of deduction puzzles but the creator did a great job with the one in the game as it incorporated visual clues rather than text. It was a lot interesting to follow this way. This chapter also felt bitter sweet since one hand we really want to find out about the big finale but on the other, we really don't want it to end. Good news is that they already announced that season two is on its way! Photos above are properties of The Curious Correspondence Club πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΆπŸ…°πŸ…ΌπŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ…»πŸ…°πŸ†ˆ After 10 chapters of The Curious Correspondence Club, you would think we're experts by now but every game is like learning a new game for us. The way they want the players to put together the "scene" for them is always out of our expectations. This one was no different. Right away we saw the various symbols and patterns on the manhole. It really felt like a secret society had left their markings and the only way in is to figure out the password. The next part is when we usually sit for almost thirty minutes trying to figure out how to start the game. Definitely pay attention to the backstory as it'll give you some subtle hints. For this game, we had to use a hint to start. Once we saw the hint, the first thing we said to each other was: "Ok, that's clever." Therefore, please use hints for this game as it'll keep your momentum going and make it more fun than getting frustrated by sitting there for hours. The next puzzle took us the longest as visually it was definitely a challenge. But the entire design made perfect sense as I would imaging it's quite easy to get lost in a tunnel. In this game, there's a good amount of observation puzzles. You might think that this section was quite easy but it's just a breather that will lead to the multi-step puzzle for the ending. Once again, the use of that prop was perfectly timed with the storyline but it will definitely challenge your math skills. Although we're still struggling with the difficulty of their puzzles, we're always excited to see their envelope in our mailbox. I would have never imaged how they would be able to use the props such as the levers and gears and build an entire storyline around a sewer. The cliffhangers are really good too. But good thing we don't have to wait too long for Chapter 11. Also, this time we actually know where we'll be going: The Starfall Tower! (If you do decide to try this game, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from " ESCAPETHEROOMers "!) Disclosure: We thank The Curious Correspondence Club for providing us with a sample of their game. Although a complimentary experience was generously provided, it does not impact our opinion on the review whatsoever. #CiciCao #AtHomeGames #PuzzlesByMail #SubscriptionGames #Mystery #Detective #Canada #TheCuriousCorrespondenceClub

We've gathered all 12 shards. What can stop us now? What is this Project Nexus? Only one way to find out... πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ βžπŸ…»πŸ…ΎπŸ…ΎπŸ…ΊπŸ†‚βž Read our previous reviews to find out more on the packaging. In this chapter you'll receive a chapter envelope with the backstory on the inside, 1 artificial shard, 6 Nexus components, 4 glove components, 6 tablet screens, 1 holo projection and 1 tablet computer. I knew CCC was not going to make this last chapter easy. Reading from the storyline gave us a bit more guidance in terms of what we needed to build from the paper materials and how they should be utilized. Since origami was my high school hobby, the assembly part was not so difficult. I loved how CCC was able to bring this artifact to live. It's just as I imaged but a lot prettier. The blue on black print for the tablet screens made the small fonts really hard to read. I wish that could have been done in another color choice. There's a few things that had to happen simultaneously in this game. You will need to understand how to operate the actual artifact, the glove, the holo projector for most of the puzzle interpretations. I strongly advise the usage of hints if you get stuck. There's a good amount of steps you'll need to repeat for some puzzles so you'll definitely get a chance to try some on your own. Photos above are properties of ESCAPETHEROOMers πŸ†ƒπŸ…·πŸ…΄ πŸ…ΏπŸ†„πŸ†‰πŸ†‰πŸ…»πŸ…΄πŸ†‚ We almost have to use hints and solution check on most of the CCC games we've played. If you look back on our reviews, we've gotten frustrated at the beginning but only to learn that this is not the fun way to enjoy these games. We actually felt like we've improved on our puzzle solving skills while studying the hints and solutions. It's insane how the creators thought of how some of these puzzles worked together while using these paper components. I know there's mix feelings out there about the difficulty level of these games but we're definitely fans. It's hard but it all makes sense when you read through the solution. I do admit sometimes these puzzles make me feel like I have to play more games in order to "level up". This game in particular was a toughie. I was able to get through half but once the holo projector came into play, it definitely got a lot more complicated. The sequence and steps to get to each solution was also lengthened for this game. You'll need to rotate, adjust, readjust in order to finally get to one solution. This might have to be repeated several times. Just be patient since this is the finish line! This fun adventure was definitely something we looked forward to every month in our mailbox. The story was engaging especially with the cinematic ending that gave me chills as the voice actor read through the final lines. I hope this is not the end...Because how many games have you played before that allowed you to assemble an Iron Man type of glove yourself and look so cool while solving puzzles?
