- Breakout Chester - "Dead End"
LOCATION: Chester, United Kingdom Photo above is property of Breakout Chester 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Dead End 📅 DATE PLAYED: July 14, 2022 🎬 GENRE: Horror, Zombie 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 9/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-5 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: £15-20/PP (Weekdays), £17-22/PP (Weekends) ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes (55Min, 2-3 Hints) 📖 THE STORY Your team is among the survivors of the apocalypse and has spent years scraping by in zombie-infested London. When one of the generators powering a public safehouse goes down, you are tasked with venturing into the darkness of the Underground to get it back online, hopefully without being ripped to pieces by a horde of undead in the process. 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The team at Breakout Chester has clearly put a lot of care into building this room, as its detailed and lifelike décor creates the perfect atmosphere for a zombie horror room. Add in the fact that most of the room is completed in the dark with flashlights, and you get a space that looks and feels like a rundown part of the London Underground and which believably immerses the players in the game’s world. This room is very well paced, which lends the gameplay a lot of drama. Access to new areas and tools is carefully controlled, giving it a desperate, race-against-the-clock feeling. The ending is especially cinematic and is easily one of the most exciting moments I’ve experienced in an escape room. Without resorting to cheap scare tactics or unfair puzzles, this room feels tense from start to finish, a feeling that perfectly matches its theme. It is free of jump scares, making it an excellent pick for those who want something creepy, but with the assurance that nothing will spring out at them. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK While wonderfully immersive, the room layout was just a tad too tight and maze-like. Breakout Chester pushed the limits of what they could fit in this space; they’ve mostly pulled it off, though searching the place for clues or communicating with teammates in other areas could be difficult and stressful at times, and larger groups might find themselves running into each other. At least one lock was (intentionally) difficult to access. I had to lay down and reach into a small space at an odd angle to reach it. This built tension nicely but would be difficult to manage for some people. One puzzle was a little punishing to people not already familiar with London’s tube maps. It can reliably be solved by anyone with the tools provided, but it was a little tedious and stressful for a foreigner! 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? I normally keep my cool in escape rooms, but the tension in this one had my heart racing from start to finish. It’s a top contender for the hardest room at Breakout Chester, and on top of that it manages to blend the imagined fear of zombies with the real fear of solving difficult puzzles in the dark (and the even more real fear of deciphering a tube map on a time limit) to create a uniquely potent sense of pressure. For that reason, I’d advise groups that are new to escape rooms to save this one for later, and to make sure that when they choose to tackle it, they’re well and truly prepared for an experience that will put them on edge and keep them there. That said, when I think of the rooms that have made the strongest impressions on me, this is one of the first that comes to mind. The atmosphere is deeply immersive, selling its concept immediately and beautifully matching the feeling of a tense apocalyptic survival story. The puzzles match that tension by placing the players in the roles of battered but resourceful survivors, keeping them scrounging for the tools they need to get past each obstacle. Each puzzle pairs well with the story, feeling grounded in the game world rather than in the loose abstraction escape rooms often resort to. With an absolutely killer ending as the cherry on top of this thrilling sundae, it’s a masterful exploration of escape rooms’ ability to transport players to another world. “Dead End” is the perfect escape room for a group of seasoned players looking to test their mettle in a challenging and lovingly crafted environment. Of the many great rooms available at Breakout Chester, it stands out as one of their top experiences, a memorable must-play for enthusiasts who find themselves in the area. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Because it is in a historic building, Breakout Chester is not handicap accessible. Players need to climb multiple staircases before they reach any of the rooms. This is in a car-free part of the city, so you will probably have to walk a couple blocks from the nearest parking lot or bus station. Employees on an intercom need to buzz you into the front door and want you to arrive five to ten minutes ahead of your game (but not earlier) so they can spread out guests for health reasons. Plan accordingly! Video above is property of Pier Pressure Escape Rooms 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE An absolutely STUNNING design means you feel EXTREMELY immersed in this amazing recreation of a cobbled street with shops, windows and associated items such as a real red phone box! A superb mix of puzzles, tasks and information gathering makes for a perfect heist experience. Locks, codes, games, logical reasoning and information gathering - it really does have it all. Some very clever uses of tech and also simple manual tasks that keep the game interesting and mean that all in the team can play to their strengths and are also likely to be involved in a range of puzzles. An interactive and in character GM for the game brings the whole thing to life. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Not a single thing wrong - I just wanted to spend more time in there! 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This is one of the top-rated rooms in the country and it is very easy to see why. A good amount of team communication is required, mainly for the tasks you have to complete and as you are often in different areas. This is why the minimum for the room is ideally 4 people. One of the most elaborate sets and cleverly themed rooms you will find - the setting is superb. Anyone with a love of the city of Brighton, heist style games, clever puzzles and teamwork in amazing settings will adore this game - I challenge anyone not to love this one! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO This room is hosted in a different building, a short walk away from the main venue but you will be guided there by your GM, in character, so worry not! There are some steep stairs involved in accessing the room. Extra achievements can be awarded in Pier Pressure’s games for how you play - such a lovely touch! Discounts on a tasty beverage (adults only) at a local venue are available on completion of a room and multi-room discounts are available when booking. There isn’t any immediate parking but there is a car park just 400m away. The venue has some online games you can buy too! Plus a range of games and merchandise to buy in their shop and online. - Pier Pressure Escape Rooms - "Pavilion Perplex"
LOCATION: Brighton, United Kingdom Photo above is property of Pier Pressure Escape Rooms 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Pavilion Perplex 📅 DATE PLAYED: August 1, 2022 🎬 GENRE: Historical, Treasure Hunt 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 5 ppl): 8/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-6 ppl (Ages 12+) 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: £26-32 (pending on the group size) ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY Well, it can’t be true can it?? They want to demolish Brighton Pavilion??? People are in uproar, and there has been a petition drawn up that has attracted all the signatures it needs to stop it from happening. But oh no! The petition is somewhere inside the building! If you can’t find it and present it before the demolition work starts in an hour, the building will be lost forever. Can you locate the petition and get out before the bulldozers move in?! Video above is property of Pier Pressure Escape Rooms 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Your team is collected from reception by a supremely distinguished and nattily dressed butler - they explain all you need to know and helps you with any questions. They open the huge double doors (a first for us) in a very grand manner - perhaps the best entrance to a room I have ever had! Yet another amazingly authentic theme - decoration, props, furniture, music, all sourced and painstakingly recreated to give a Victorian feeling to the room and as if you really are inside the pavilion itself. The puzzles are in keeping with the theme, not too much “tech” and no directional locks or things that wouldn’t be around in the era. A good mix of teamwork, logic, physical puzzles and codes. There is a very cute clue system which again we didn’t make use of. Really should get into the habit of asking for a clue for something we have already done just to test out the clue system! 🧩 MISSED THE MARK We actually managed to solve a puzzle by chance way before we got the actual information required, which is a shame, but ultimately we felt quite proud of ourselves! 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? All of Pier Pressure’s games are worth playing - and each is very different. No matter what you enjoy there is a room for you, and this one is definitely for the fans of tactile and logic puzzles rather than padlocks! There’s plenty to keep a large team working together in fact it comes in very handy later on! If you love recent history, architecture or old buildings, Brighton itself, and lots of Crystal Maze style puzzles with some lovely a-ha! moments then you will very much enjoy this room! Take a look at pictures of the pavilion that the room is based on. It’s amazing how authentic it really is! ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO Extra achievements can be awarded in Pier Pressure’s games for how you play - such a lovely touch! - Pier Pressure Escape Rooms - "Modrophenia"
LOCATION: Brighton, United Kingdom Photo above is property of Pier Pressure Escape Rooms 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Modrophenia 📅 DATE PLAYED: August 1, 2022 🎬 GENRE: Murder Mystery, Retro, Music 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 5 ppl): 8/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-9 ppl (Ages 14+) 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: £26-32 (pending on the group size) ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY You are one of a gang of Mods - a 60's youth subculture group who rides scooters, wear clean-cut suits and favours ska, blues and soul. Tensions between the other group in the city - "The Rockers", are riding high. One of your gang members, Jimmy, has been found murdered - and you want to find out what happened to him. Gain access to his flat, look around for clues, and identify the culprit as fast as you can. Video above is property of Pier Pressure Escape Rooms 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE Great immersion from the start, as a “fellow gang member” tells you what has happened and brings you to Jimmy’s flat. Once inside - such a fabulous theme! From the original vintage Vespa scooter that takes pride of place, the pinball machine, props and the 60's tunes that play, this room really transports you back to the era and if you weren’t there, gives you some flavour! There were some very clever uses of props and items around the rooms, such as physical puzzles, searching, pattern puzzles and logic, this room seemed to have it all. There is also of course, the whodunnit element to this room - not just an escape, so there’s the added pressure at the end of deducing and naming the culprit. Will you get it right? You only have one opportunity to name them! 🧩 MISSED THE MARK One piece of information required for a puzzle was in a very sneaky location, which we never found, so ended up guessing this bit. Not a bad thing per se, but we would never have found it without a clue! 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Another fantastically immersive room from Pier Pressure, and one which will appeal to anyone with a love of art, music, local history and more. Hints are apparently delivered in a very in-keeping way through the radio station playing, but we never had to get any. Almost wish we had now! There’s plenty to keep a larger team busy as things can be solved in a non-linear fashion, and our team of 5 were never left without anything to do. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO There are some steep stairs involved in accessing the room. Extra achievements can be awarded in Pier Pressure’s games for how you play - such a lovely touch! - REMOTE: Project Avatar - "Project Avatar: First Mission"
Photos have been provided by Hypno Dive Company: Hypno Dive Game: Project Avatar: First Mission Country: Ukraine 🇺🇦 Language: English, Ukrainian Type of Game: Remote Escape Room 🗣 Genre: Sci-Fi, Thriller Date Played: May 29, 2020 Difficulty (based on 4 players): 5/10 Size of Team: 1-8 Players Time: 120 Minutes Price: €100 (Up to 8 Players) "Project Avatar" was such a unique experience that I'm actually out of words on how to describe it. It felt like a video game came to life. The game started out with a video introduction of the backstory. It then gave detailed instructions on how we could control our avatar. The innovative idea of finding energy source for the avatar to charge up, supercharge him to complete varies tasks and healing him when he got injured made the game felt very real. There were times I was so worried he would die if we weren't able to find him energy bar or medicine. You literally watched his life deplete due to an action you decided on taking. Due to language issues, our avatar's action felt delayed after receiving our command. The game developers insured us that this will be fixed once the game officially launches. Usually 3-4 rooms would be considered massive in the escape room world, but this game was in a entire abandoned building. At one point we were even outside! There wasn't much set design as most rooms looked similar to one another with scraps and old furniture. There were a few rooms that had some "surprises" for us (ie. the ending). The door opening of each room was timed seamlessly with a prerecorded video. It felt like a flash back. I really enjoyed those. Some made our team crack up in tears. It was amazing how the avatar was able to entertain us throughout the game with just his hands. The sound element was paired nicely with the actions of the avatar. As he's running, you were able to hear the heavy breathing. If you are a puzzle lover, this game might be a little disappointing since we encountered about 5 puzzles in the entire game. We finished around 90 minutes. We did speak to the developers after the game and they have informed us that they will be adding more puzzles into the finished product. It did get a bit repetitive since most rooms looked alike and the steps were similar (i.e. searching, finding key, etc.). It would be great if there were some different tasks that could be added in. Regardless, this game was nothing we've seen before on the market right now. We highly recommend giving it a try! *Please note : There were moments I had to look away from the computer screen as there will be flashing strobe lights. If you have Epilepsy, patterns may trigger seizures. (If you do decide to try this experience, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) - REMOTE: Project Avatar - "Avatar Stalker - Phase One: Ground Floor"
Photos provided by Hypno Dive Company: Hypno Dive Game: Project Avatar: Avatar Stalker - Phase One: Ground Floor Country: Ukraine 🇺🇦 Language: English, Ukrainian Type of Game: Remote Escape Room 🗣 Genre: Sci-Fi, Thriller, Comedy Date Played: October 17, 2020 Difficulty (based on 5 players): 4/10 Size of Team: Up to 10 pp (ages 8+) Time: 60 Minutes Price: 100 € per 4 players, +25 € per player up to 10 Wait, hold on...What just happened? Did I just witness a guy dressed in a chicken suit and another dressed in a duck suit in front of my computer screen? I guess I should tell you a bit more in context on how this game works... This is Project Avatar's second creation and we couldn't wait to try it because we really enjoyed the bizarreness that happened in their first adventure: Legendary Quests. If you played their first game you know exactly what I'm talking about as at times I felt like I was at a disco party or a rave surrounded by strobing lights. But if you thought that was EXTRAordinary, wait until you meet Utya duck and Chickman. In this adventure we had to help our friend Utya duck to get back home. His airduckter broke and needed parts from the Magic Pawnshop in order to repair it. Uyta duck's afraid of chickens and it just so happens that the boss of Magic Pawnshop is Chickman. This is why we are being send in to help him. We must collect coins to trade for the parts Utya duck needs for the airduckter. Will we complete the mission and save our friend? After booking the game you'll receive a confirmation email with a "briefing" video. We strongly suggest you watch that for how everything works and pay special attention to the end as you might need that piece of information in order to successfully complete the mission. The game was played over Zoom. There's an intro video that sets the mood for the story line. Right after that, we entered what seems to be an enormous warehouse. If you've played their first game before, you'll have a slight advantage as to how they utilize the props and how you can maneuver your avatar. There are symbols in the game that serves as instructions. The blue symbol means you have to shine black light on it and the yellow means there's a puzzle near by. A large amount of game time would be spent on searching for artifact parts and exploring the areas. There were also question mark boxes hidden in various parts of the room. These could be good or bad so it's up to you if you and your team want to take a chance. If you get lucky, you might get more game pieces and artifacts. If not, watch out for that big bad Chickman. You'll lose a life if he does pop out. The game starts with a total of 3 lives and if you lose it all, you'll have to go gamble with Chickman. If you win, you'll gain more lives. There are many prerecorded videos in the game as well and could be suddenly triggered by the avatar if you asked him to examine something. You have to watch these. They were hilarious. I would suggest going into this game with an open mind. It's unlike any online games or remote escape rooms we've ever done. It literally felt like we were playing a video game but controlling a live avatar instead. Since there were so many different areas to be explored in this game, there's no way you'll be able to see everything and solve every puzzle. Don't feel like you have to be an "A" student in this game. It's designed to be replayable. The puzzles were quite a stretch at times with using the normal logic methods but I don't think anyone's really focused on puzzles in this game. Make sure you save enough time to craft as many artifacts as possible at the end as that will affect your final score. One last advice I could give you is to fully understand your mission and what you need to do at the end. Perhaps it's due to the language issue, we didn't quite get that final message. Although we had a high score of 2300 coins (5000 coins if you want to get a perfect score which is impossible due to the time limit), we were not able to "claim" it at the end. I think the avatar or game master should've definitely hinted us on what we needed to do for that final part since we had plenty of time left. That was probably our only sad moment. Overall, we had a blast playing this game and shared many priceless laughter. - REMOTE: Project Avatar - "Avatar Stalker - Phase Two: Basement"
Photos above are properties of Hypno Dive Company: Hypno Dive Game: Avatar Stalker - Phase Two: Basement Country: Ukraine 🇺🇦 Language: English, Ukrainian Type of Game: Remote Escape Room 🗣 Genre: Sci-Fi, Comedy Date Played: July 22, 2021 Difficulty (based on 6 players): 4/10 Size of Team: Up to 15 pp (ages 8+) Time: 90 Minutes Price: 25€/pp 🆃🅷🅴 🆂🆃🅾🆁🆈 Avatar ran into some trouble with his plane. He can only repair the plane with your help by collecting artifacts to craft the right parts in the pawn shop. Of course, his friend Utya duck will be there to help but watch out for Chickman! He's always up to no good. Video above is property of Hypno Dive 🆃🅷🅴 🅶🅰🅼🅴 🅿🅻🅰🆈 Avatar Stalker Phase 2 was build on the same storyline as Phase 1. If you've already played Phase 1 then just note that the the location of the game changed to the basement of the pawn shop and there were a different puzzles in this game but the general rules are the same. Your team will meet the avatar through Zoom. You'll start with an intro video and a debrief on game rules by meeting a gamemaster in the Zoom lobby. Once you're clear on the directions, your avatar will be waiting for you in the basement of the building. In this game your goal is to get as many points as possible by collecting bonus items and blue, yellow, red, and bronze parts so you can craft artifacts at the end. During the game, you'll encounter mystery boxes which your team needs to decide if its worth opening or not. Some boxes are great as they contain lots of artifacts (we're super lucky in this game and got all the "good" boxes) but some may cost you to lose a life (you only have 3!). If you are low on life, you'll probably need to visit the Chickman. If you win the game with him, you'll regain a life. But if you lose, you'll lose 5 minutes of game time. Avatars also can find certain tools that they can use within the game space. For instance, in this game we were able to find a crowbar and a black light. Black lights are to be used with any blue spider marking areas. If you see a yellow spider marking, that means there's a puzzle that needs to be solved. You'll need to solve 9 in order to open the last room. In the last room, if you have time, you can continue to solve bonus puzzles. Sometimes (pending on if you are lucky or not), Utya duck may come out to help you find a few rare artifact's locations. Photos above are properties of Hypno Dive 🆃🅷🅴 🅿🆄🆉🆉🅻🅴🆂 The main focus on this game is not on the puzzles. Most of the ones we've encountered were quite easy and there were a lot of search and find components. However, your team will still need to strategize on how to optimize the time to acquire the highest amount of points. I've written some tips on how to play an online escape room like a pro so this could help you. I do like the element of surprise where you think this scrap of metal has no use but all of a sudden when the avatar touches it, magic happens. Sometimes it's a prerecorded video and other times it's how the avatar reacts to it. Regardless, the anticipation and excitement when we saw a marked spider during the game never died down. 🅲🅻🅾🆂🅸🅽🅶 🆃🅷🅾🆄🅶🅷🆃🆂 Attending a Hypno Dive game is like going to a rave party. You feel the adrenaline rush throughout the game. We were super excited and prepped ourselves with extra shots of espresso just to be laser focused for this game. This is probably one of those games that you'll see the most variations of facial expressions from the players. We were laughing, confused, "wowed", amazed, and shocked within this short 60 minutes of time. Hypno Dive came a long way since the first game where they packed a lot of creative ideas in one game but there was too much information for players to remember and utilize. This version was a lot cleaner and much easier for the players to navigate. If your focus is mostly on puzzles then you might think this is more for beginners but if you love to experience something so unique that you'll probably never forget, then you might want to give this a shot. It felt like video game with amazing graphics but instead of controlling a fake character you're control a real life person. Our team scored 4500 as our final score with full health (mainly because we were too scared of the Chickman). I would definitely advise to be a bit more adventurous since you do have 3 lives and who knows what you'll encounter during this eccentric journey. (If you do decide to try this experience, give us a shoutout or tag us on social media so we know you heard it from "ESCAPETHEROOMers"!) - REMOTE: Project Avatar (by Hypno Dive) - "The Mystery Hotel"
Photo above is property of Project Avatar (by Hypno Dive) Company: Project Avatar (by Hypno Dive) Game: The Mystery Hotel Country: Ukraine 🇺🇦 Language: English, Ukrainian Type of Game: Remote Escape Room 🗣 Genre: Supernatural, Mystical Detective Date Played: April 28, 2022 Difficulty (based on 3 players): 5.5/10 Size of Team: 1-10 Players Time: 60 Minutes Price: $100 (Up to 4 Players) - $25 each additional players Check out our reviews on the other games from Project Avatar: "Project Avatar - First Mission", "Avatar Stalker - Phase 1: Ground Floor" and "Avatar Stalker - Phase 2: Basement"! 🆃🅷🅴 🆂🆃🅾🆁🆈 The receptionist tells you that her grandfather Morgan also worked at this old hotel a long time ago. When he was young, he traveled and brought back a mysterious object to this hotel and since then, strange things started to happen. Even while the receptionist is asking you for help, you can see the headless ghost behind her! Can you save this spooky hotel without being killed by ghosts? Video above is property of Project Avatar (by Hypno Dive) 🆃🅷🅴 🅶🅰🅼🅴 🅿🅻🅰🆈 How to play this game is simple. You can access the Zoom link provided and see the room through your screen. Your avatar can do all the physical work in the room as you order them what to do. Similar to a video game, whatever item you find is added to your inventory system which is provided for you on your screen as your playing. I loved their inventory system. It was very smooth and less stressful to use because we didn't need to toggle back and forth on a separate screen to access our inventory. It may reveal some hints if the information needed to solve the puzzle is shown on the screen before players figure it out. Photos above are property of Project Avatar (by Hypno Dive) 🆃🅷🅴 🅿🆄🆉🆉🅻🅴🆂 The puzzles were straightforward but placed in a chronological order to make them more enjoyable. They all fit perfectly with the theme and added to the experience. They might be a little too easy for some experts, yet there were a good number of puzzles in the game to make most players happy (there were a few minor concerns about a couple of physical puzzles, but we suggested some solutions to make those work more smoothly). What makes “The Mystery Hotel” so special was the use of visual and sound effects made specifically for an online escape room experience. The company set up a system on Zoom to enable us to see some ghosts in the room through the screen. This visual effect was perfect usage to provide a supernatural immersive experience. It was certainly more exciting than just seeing an ordinary decorated room. It definitely helped us to feel the world of the spooky haunted hotel and they also added another challenge besides solving puzzles. The avatar loses their energy every time it encounters a ghost. So, be sure to keep track of their energy level while taking care of puzzles. This extra challenge was not difficult but something we had to keep in mind while solving puzzles. I believe this challenge added another layer to make this game more real and exciting. For the first five minutes, I wished that I could play this game in-person since the décor of the room looked nice and well-fitted to the theme. But after playing the online version of this game, I changed my mind because Hypno Dive was able to use this remote experience to their advantage by inserting pre-recorded video footage to enhance the game. 🅲🅻🅾🆂🅸🅽🅶 🆃🅷🅾🆄🅶🅷🆃🆂 “The Mystery Hotel” is a fun online escape room that enhances the immersive feeling by using the visual and sound effects appealingly. The puzzles themselves are not so complicated, so you can enjoy this game with your friends and family. It is a haunted hotel theme, but not super scary. If I can handle it, you can! So, why don’t you grab your team, go online, and get immersed in this mysterious hotel? You learn that the King of Kowloon had been given the deed to the city by his ancestors by the emperor. During World War II, they hid the deed of the land somewhere in their residence. Unfortunately, a fire burnt down the building and it was nowhere to be found. You decide to visit the Walled City when suddenly, you're struck by lightning and transported back in time to about an hour before the fire broke out. Are you able to find the deed, change history, and become the new King of Kowloon? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The storyline for "The Walled City" was unlike anything we've experienced before. Taking a historical event and creating a way to revisit that time period with an opportunity to change the future with one objective made this seem not only interesting but also unique. The dim lighting, candles, old wooden furniture, and aged wallpaper, all contributed to the decor of the room. The set design really transported us back to the old Kowloon. The clues to a few of the puzzles in the room were clever in their design and gave the players a clear indication of what to do without giving away the solution. Since the escape room is located in a building complex, there wasn't too much space that could be utilized for the game, but the designer was able to still provide a few "segments" that gave us a multi-room experience. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK We hope a more clever and clear hint system could be implemented as when we asked for a hint, the game master had to physically come into the room to explain further what couldn't be heard through the walkie-talkie. One of the puzzles at the beginning had a very long sequence. It could be shortened by adding a couple of puzzles to the room. There's a puzzle in the latter part of the game that had a "redundant clue" that confused our thought process at getting to the solution. The deed could have been put in a more secure place as we were confused on whether or not we had actually found it in the end. The ending felt inconclusive as we were unsure what the connection of the last puzzle was to finally gain possession of the deed. It lacked a "celebratory" moment. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This is our first time trying escape rooms in Taiwan. We were really excited and picked this theme as it's a theme that's unique to the Asian culture that we probably will not see anywhere else or at least the authenticity of the set or backstory might be interpreted differently. We appreciate the fact that LOST still tries to incorporate Asian roots and history into their escape rooms. We were also surprised by the fact that even though the room had a lot of decor that had Chinese written all over it, the puzzles were solvable without any language limitations. Definitely check out this fun location when visiting Taiwan! - LOST Taiwan 忠孝店 (Zhongxiao) - "Stolen"
LOCATION: Da'an District, Taipei City, Taiwan Photo above is property of LOST Taiwan 忠孝店 Photo above is property of LOST Taiwan 忠孝店 Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Stolen 📅 DATE PLAYED: July 2, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Detective, Mystery 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 2 ppl): 7/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-6 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: 1,200NT/2PPL ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY On the night of March 18, 1990, a bunch of artwork was stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. It has been reported that the missing pieces are valued at $500 million dollars. So far, there have been no leads or updates from the FBI. You and your team of experts have been recruited to investigate the museum and see if you can crack this case. Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The storyline and concept for "Stolen" was different than a typical museum heist. In this case, you are acting as a detective, trying to scan through the evidence to find out who were the culprits rather than being the culprits and trying to steal the art. There was a puzzle in the game that surprised us in terms of their creativity in not using any props of the game but using the players themselves as tools to figure out the solution. There were clearly some "search and find" elements that were a bit more difficult to identify but that sort of also went with the theme of sleuthing. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK We hope a more clever and clear hint system could be implemented as when we asked for a hint, the game master had to physically come into the room to explain further what couldn't be heard through the walkie-talkie. There was a "memory" solution which if we didn't remember when entered the room, we would have to either exit the room or ask for a hint. We were not used to this type of operation since exiting the room normally would mean we have completed the room. Perhaps this "clue" could be somewhere inside the room instead. Some props needed maintenance. Some puzzles didn't feel relevant to the theme. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This game is predominantly played in a dim-lit setting to create a "security lockdown" ambiance. There is a good amount of searching in this game which gave all players something to do in the room. In comparison, we prefer their other game, "The Walled City" mainly due to the flow of the game. You might also want to leave a good amount of time for this game as there's a fairly difficult puzzle that needed to be completed in order for the truth to reveal itself. LOST has many different themed rooms at various locations in Taiwan and all over Asia. The best part is you'll be able to play the games with no language barrier! - Limitless Escape Room 密室逃脫 - "The Warrant"
LOCATION: Zhongzheng District, Taipei City, Taiwan Photo above is property of Limitless Escape Room 密室逃脫 Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 📝 ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: The Warrant 📅 DATE PLAYED: July 3, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Thriller, Detective 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 3 ppl): 5.5/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 3-6 ppl 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: 500 NT/PP ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY As a detective, you've been assigned to investigate an abandoned apartment. After acquiring a search warrant, you make your way to the location and enter a pitch-dark room. Are you up for the challenge? Video above is property of ESCAPETHEROOMers 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The storyline feels like a familiar horror movie until a sudden twist happens. As detectives, we get to investigate a paranormal mystery that continues to unveil a shocking plot as we dug deeper. The set design was what appeared to be a basic apartment but the designer had a few tricks up their sleeve. There were definitely a few jump-scare moments. I would say our teammate Yolanda probably got the most out of these surprising moments. There was one puzzle (or should I say "special effect") that surprised us as we never saw this type of representation anywhere else before. It gave all of us goosebumps after we discovered what was to be revealed. The set design had a unique way of "separating" teammates to create a more scary moment for some but for others, I would call it "enjoyment". The puzzles for "The Warrant" are where this game shines in the creative department. There were some familiar challenges but presented in a unique way. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Perhaps adding a piece of furniture that one of the puzzles could be assembled on could be helpful as it was quite difficult to see in the dark room and maneuver the pieces on the floor. The last room felt a little "distant" from the rest of the decor of the game. It lacked that horror vibe and a sense of urgency. The "character" in the game should be able to push the players through "time is running out" or a bit more special effect to make the final escape with some added adrenaline. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? Although a majority of this game was played in a dim-lit setting, there were enough candles to illuminate the room and contribute to the ambiance of the experience."The Warrant" was a solid game with a couple of jump-scares and a strong storyline. There was a good amount of puzzles that required strong communication between the players. We felt very comfortable playing this game as English-speaking players and I would say it might be even more fitting for English players rather than Chinese players. Some puzzle solutions might actually be easier for English speakers. Regardless, if you are in Taiwan and want to experience a spooky but fun night, you'll want to give Limitless Escape Room a visit! After spending the whole day there, you decide to leave and take your car, but your car just broke down in the middle of nowhere. You start to feel desperate when you see a stranger coming to you. You ask for his help but the only thing the man says is “Mrs Marie Laveau can help you with that” while pointing a direction, before disappearing. As you have no other solution, you walk towards the direction the man showed and arrive in front of a house. You decide to enter as you have nothing better to do in your current situation. Now that you are there, what could go wrong? Video above is property of Trip Trap Secret Floor 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The details made for the set are very faithful to what we would expect when we enter the lair of a Voodoo priest in Louisiana. We find many items and artefacts that make sense for a better immersion. The puzzles are well integrated to the theme and story, that adds to the spookiness of the room. Some are very ingenious or uncommon! There is a quite large variety of mechanisms used to solve puzzles that use diverse skills, which favors participation from each team member. The thrill goes crescendo with a climax at the end. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK For the finale, the music was intense, a bit too much for some of our members. It may be detrimental for the experience of sensitive players. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? This room is very immersive, with a well dosed difficulty. It is not a horror-based room, it’s more suggestive so you shouldn’t be afraid to do it even if you don’t like the horror genre. It is more suitable to players that are not complete beginners, I would recommend a group of 4 players for this room. Photos above are property of Time Trap Secret Floor ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO There are some white and blue parking spots in front of the building There are stairs and an elevator to get access to the lobby Trip Trap asks to arrive 15 mins in advance if possible so you can enjoy the full experience Pregnant women can take part to the adventure (if not too close to the term) and a chair can be installed by the game master upon request for comfort. - Trip Trap Secret Floor - "Jack Rackam's Treasure"
LOCATION: Geneva, Switzerland Photo above is property of Trip Trap Secret Floor Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: Jack Rackam's Treasure 📅 DATE PLAYED: September 29, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Pirate, Adventure 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 4 ppl): 2/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 2-5 PPL 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: CHF 180/Room ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY Jack Calico Rackham is one of the most famous pirates in the world and has sailed many seas, searching for the most coveted treasures! With time, he managed to become the richest one on Earth and you and your friends were proud to be part of his crew. Unfortunately, it is never good to be a renown pirate and of course a bounty was put on top of Jack Rackham’s head. The Marine of England, led by James Barnett, has intercepted your ship: you are now their prisoners. They give you two choices: either you are sentenced to death by hanging, either you help them find Rackham’s hidden treasure… 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The set is really nice, you feel like you are inside of a ship: the furniture is pretty realistic. The puzzles are well-integrated and very logical. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK As a first-generation escape room (the first from Trip Trap) it would be unfair to compare with the most recent ones, but in my opinion it could be a better experience with more puzzles (the lack of space may be the main reason for this). As experienced players, we finished in 22 minutes without any hint and without the intention of rushing the room, we would have loved to enjoy it more. 😊 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? It is a single-room escape game that suits beginners. If you are quite experienced, even if some interactions are original, you may feel a bit disappointed (puzzles are pretty easy and overall there is no real difficulty if you don’t miss any item while searching). I would recommend 3-4 players maximum as the room is pretty small (probably 3 for the best experience). Photo above is property of Time Trap Secret Floor ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO There are some white and blue parking spots in front of the building There are stairs and an elevator to get access to the lobby Trip Trap asks to arrive 15 mins in advance if possible so you can enjoy the full experience Pregnant women can take part to the adventure (if not too close to the term) and a chair can be installed by the game master upon request for comfort. - Trip Trap Secret Floor - "The Chest: Rackam's Revenge"
LOCATION: Genève, Switzerland Photo above is property of Trip Trap Secret Floor Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: The Chest: Rackam's Revenge 📅 DATE PLAYED: September 29, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Paranormal Activity 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 4 ppl): 4/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 4-10 PPL 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 60 Mins. 💰 PRICE: CHF 260/Room ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY The famous archeologist Adrian Grant has invited you in his laboratory. He is currently stuck in south America, trying to decipher secrets linked to Jack Rackham’s secret treasure and he may have made a major discovery. You are in satellite connexion with Dr. Grant and your goal is to analyze 2 black boxes that have been sent from his site and stored in the middle of the room. These can be the coveted Rackham’s treasure! You will need to open them, solve their mysteries and maybe find the treasure! 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE The For an escape box perspective: it is probably the best one I have tested so far! Not only is the box cool, but it is stored in a dedicated room, pretty well decorated and that fits the theme. The room is not only there for decoration, you will find some clues to help solving the puzzles in the box. There is a quite large variety of mechanisms used in the box, which is very welcome. The possibility to play in “battle mode” adds to the excitement: as some sounds can be heard after validating a step, you can guess if you are ahead or behind! 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Even thought the experience was very pleasant, I would expect a lower price as compared to classical escape rooms. 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? As this experience is an escape box and not a full escape room, I had pretty low expectations at the beginning (I have played 20ish escape boxes and even if some of them were decent, it was never as enjoyable as a real escape room: a lot of padlocks, puzzles are either too easy or have a weird logic for artificial difficulty, no real backstory…). But Trip Trap managed to make it very entertaining, especially in “battle mode”. The box in itself has a lot of mechanisms to play with and the room in which we play adds to the immersion. As the price is in the same range as for an escape room, I would favor the latter if you have to choose. But if you have time and want to give it a try, it’s worth the experience. I would recommend maximum 3 players per box, 2 players is perfect if you are experienced. - Grand Trip Trap Hotel - "The House of Uncle Cornelius"
LOCATION: Genève, Switzerland Photo above is property of Grand Trip Trap Hotel Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ETR DECODER 🔑 GAME: The House of Uncle Cornelius 📅 DATE PLAYED: September 30, 2023 🎬 GENRE: Adventure 🧠 DIFFICULTY (Based on 4 ppl): 6/10 👥 TOTAL # OF PLAYERS: 4-6 PPL 🕒 LENGTH OF TIME: 90 Mins. 💰 PRICE: CHF 260/Room ☎️ BOOKING TYPE: Private 🔓 ESCAPED/ COMPLETED?: Yes 📖 THE STORY Uncle Cornelius is Trippolyte’s little brother and, contrary to his brother, is a very adventurous person. When he was young, he traveled around the world, looking for more and more exciting and thrilling adventures! Now that he retired, he welcomes any traveler who stops by the Grand Trip Trap Hotel with his wonderful stories. Are you ready to embark? 🎯 HIT THE BULLSEYE This is one of the biggest rooms I have ever played in: more than 200m² (~250m² if I recall correctly, but I’m not 100% sure) and all the space has been cleverly used to maximize the experience, there is no dead spot. You are LITERALLY in Uncle Cornelius’ house, the scenery is outstanding, it is truly realistic and the way you navigate from a room to another to take part in the adventure is very well designed! The game is paced with regular surprises and “wooooow” effects so the adrenaline never drops and you are always entertained. There are so many things to do, you just keep having fun and ask for more! We were 4 players but I think even with 6 players it should be totally fine. All the puzzles and riddles are very well integrated to the game. 🧩 MISSED THE MARK Nothing. Seriously... 🏹 TAKE A SHOT? I may be quoting a copyright infringement from a particular brand but: Just Do It! This escape room is easily in my top 3 (and I have played more than 300 rooms so far). I tried to find some drawbacks to this room and just couldn’t find any. I was amazed from the start to the very end, Trip Trap succeeded in transporting us in another world and another time during 90 minutes and this is just priceless. ℹ️ ADDITIONAL INFO No parking at the venue: you can either find a spot in the commercial center in Carouge nearby or find a spot in the street around Trip Trap asks to arrive 15 mins in advance if possible so you can enjoy the full experience Pregnant women can take part to the adventure (if not too close to the term) and a chair can be installed by the game master upon request for comfort. You can order drinks and hot beverages at the Catalpa Bar: teas, coffees, sodas, wine, beers, cocktails and eat some bagels, assortments of cheese and charcuterie. The bartender and waiters are adorable and cocktails taste amazing! The bar in itself is also very well decorated.
