How much damage has been done and how can we do better for our future? Search through the nooks and crannies of this cardboard, plastic, and cloth-constructed room and gather information - all of which are important for taking action against environmental deterioration. If you can get out in the first place. Video above is property of Amaze Escape 360 ππ ·π ΄ π Άπ °π Όπ ΄ π Ώπ »π °π Similar to a game formed using Telescape, it was a shared digital room where we could point and click to explore different corners of the room, pick up items, and interact with the room as needed. In order to progress the story, players had a virtual tablet with a list of questions that were meant to be answered after solving puzzles - with puzzle pieces, virtual puzzles, locks - around the room. With a shared inventory, the experience was highly collaborative, with the entire teamβs puzzles considered solved as long as one person in the team is able to do so. The hint system was similar, with the need for a consensus among the entire team before we had access to a hint. However, do play this room with strong wifi or data connection, as we found ourselves in the middle of delayed frames and major lag at multiple points of the game. Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ππ ·π ΄ π Ώππππ »π ΄π The point-n-click nature of this virtual room means being a thorough searcher is key to completing a good number of puzzles. For a majority of the game, we were searching for various components to put together with half-completed puzzles, before moving on to actual puzzles associated with the room itself. Most of the puzzles were also visual and self-containing, depending on what players could see in the virtual room rather than personal knowledge. Despite the need to answer questions on climate change to progress the lore of the room, the room was designed such that cipher keys, visual puzzles, and lock keys were within the area. Listening to or reading clues given with each puzzle you click or each item you pick up will also give you hints to placing the correct items to complete the correct puzzle. Photos above are property of Amaze Escape 360 π ²π »π Ύππ Έπ ½π Ά ππ ·π Ύππ Άπ ·ππ One of the aspects that can get overlooked in an Escape Room would either be the lore or the story holding the room together. While the theming for this room was strong, it played more like an educational experience than an escape room. The puzzles and the technology definitely carried the room for this round, but I also appreciated the use of puzzles and personal interaction to educate audiences on the effects of climate change. Personalising such a major issue also gave players hope and a to-do list to think about after leaving the game itself. At the end of it all, this experience definitely encapsulated the fundamental definition of an Escape Room, I just wished there was a stronger story tying everything together. Inside you'll find 4 coffee cups. Each cup is 11 oz. On the cups, there are words and images of puzzles. After game play, I put them all in the dishwasher and they seem to be dishwasher safe. There were no deterioration of the images after several washes. ππ ·π ΄ π Άπ °π Όπ ΄ π Ώπ »π °π Start with the cup that has a QR code on it, Once you scan the code, you'll be led to a website where you'll receive an intro video of the backstory and instructions to your first puzzle. Each time you solved a puzzle, a video will appear, giving you more depth into the storyline. Answers are to be entered on the website. If you get stuck, there are hints and solutions on the website as well. ππ ·π ΄ π Ώππππ »π ΄π The puzzles were quite easy on the cups. Think of that as a warm up. Most of the puzzles were riddles, word play, emoji, etc...We did have to Google search some phrases that we were not familiar with. Once you get to the online puzzles, it'll be a bit more challenging. There will be a few deduction and Math problems. We found that it was easier to print out the pages rather than opening up multiple screens as you'll need to refer back and forth on the information given. The portal was quite easy to use and the videos tied the stories together quite nicely. π ²π »π Ύππ Έπ ½π Ά ππ ·π Ύππ Άπ ·ππ Embedding puzzles on a coffee cup is such a clever idea. After game play, you can utilize these cups everyday for drinks. After awhile, when you don't remember the puzzles anymore, you can even replay the game again. Game: The Box from the Future Genre: Sci-Fi, Mystery Difficulty (based on 2 players): 6/10 Size of Team: Unlimited (Age 12+) Time: 2 Hours (Approximately) Price: $50.00 ππ ·π ΄ πππ Ύππ Something bad is happening in the future. Dr. Milo has sent us a box from the future in hopes that we'll solve the puzzles in it in order to stop the individual who's going to cause a catastrophe. We must hurry! ππ ·π ΄ βπ »π Ύπ Ύπ Ίπβ "The Box from the Future" came in a "tin foil" protected cardboard box as if it had just travelled through a time machine. Make sure you go to the website that's imprinted on the top of the box cover before starting the game. Inside the box you'll receive a wooden box with a lock, CD cover, small map, napkin, business card, a pin and other small paper clue items. It would be helpful if a check list could be provided as we only realized that we were missing items after we checked the hint system. ππ ·π ΄ π Άπ °π Όπ ΄ π Ώπ »π °π Before opening the box, you'll be directed to a website. The website is the portal that connects you to the future and this is how you'll communicate with the team there. It's a fun concept and we enjoyed the humor from the character's stories. The portal is also quite easy to use. We did encounter one incident where the answer had to be very specific but most of time, it was able to recognize our submissions. You'll need to utilize Google search and maps for some puzzle components. If you're an international player, please note that you'll need to dial a US number at some point during the game. If you get stuck, there is a nudging hint system on the website. I'm not sure if we received an updated game or an old version of the game but a few puzzles hints were not matching up to our puzzle solutions. ππ ·π ΄ π Ώππππ »π ΄π The puzzles felt too generic and basic for us. Most of the puzzles were simple one step puzzles and many answers were really obvious and easily guessable. Since we had one item missing and it was the first item that was needed to start the meta puzzle, it also confused us on what we're looking for. Moreover, we played this game after the coffee cup puzzles and also saw some repeated usage of word play and riddles. We were hoping to see some variations in puzzle types with this game. π ²π »π Ύππ Έπ ½π Ά ππ ·π Ύππ Άπ ·ππ For the price, we felt like the props could be upgraded to better quality. There is a rumor that he and his victims may have been involved in the occult and, while your supervisor is a little skeptical on that theory, youβve been tasked you to investigate the missing professorβs home to see if you can discover his whereabouts. ππ ·π ΄ π Άπ °π Όπ ΄ π Ώπ »π °π "The Professor of the Occult" follows a point-n-click adventure using a real-life room in 360. You receive a debrief from your supervisor before entering the office of missing professor to begin your exploration. If something requires further inspection it will faintly glow when you hover your mouse over it. In addition to the puzzles there are also a series of four cassette tapes that can provide helpful clues while also building the narrative during your progression in the game. I personally found the narrative to be interesting as gave a backstory to what led up to this moment. The video clips from your supervisor were also quite entertaining! This game is best played using a single shared screen between players in order to allow you to listen to key audio clips and solve puzzles jointly. This also ensures everyone is on the same page as certain aspects of the game become inaccessible after key points. There is no outside additional research required for this game, but I recommend having a pen and paper handy as a few puzzles require some organization. Photos above are property of ESCAPETHEROOMers ππ ·π ΄ π Ώππππ »π ΄π This particular game utilizes quite a variety in puzzles that stem from traditional puzzles weβve all seen. These are more longer style puzzles, so it still takes time to go through them. I enjoyed how these puzzles encouraged my group to work together but if I was to complete this alone, I would have seen some these as a little tedious. The puzzles utilized the space of the game well by adding a lot of movement to the puzzles, even if it was something as simple has having players click and drag pieces around to help visualize their solutions. I also found a couple puzzles where the solution seemed out of place with this occult style and ended up feeling simple. The ending itself was unique experience and I like how it pushed for active participation. As enthusiasts we completed this game in less than half the time allotted for this game, so this game skews towards new players to the digital escape world in terms of difficulty. - Mobile Escapes - "The Un-Deserted Island"
Photo above is property of Mobile Escapes Company: Mobile Escapes Game: The Un-Deserted Island Country: Canada π¨π¦ Language: English Type of Game: Digital Escape Game π» Genre: Adventure, Investigative Date Played: July 17, 2022 Difficulty (based on 4 players): 5/10 Size of Team: 2-5 Players (Ages 14+) Time: 60 Minutes Price: CAD 29.98 ππ ·π ΄ πππ Ύππ You wake up and find yourself in the middle of the sea, floating on a raft drifting towards an unidentified island. Where were you going? How did you find your way here? You only have your survival pack of items and the island ahead of you to find out. Will you be able to get yourself back to safety? Go through the puzzles that lay ahead of you to find out. ππ ·π ΄ π Άπ °π Όπ ΄ π Ώπ »π °π This multi-puzzle, multi-chapter (each chapter is a puzzle) point-n-click game progresses when players manage to solve each puzzle with the images and items in the survival pack given. Hints and solutions are provided at the bottom of each chapter page, though each hint will add a minute to your final time and each solution will add three minutes. However, do take note that unlike what I was expecting - which was a multiplayer-enabled, account-based game that progressed for the team as soon as one member solved the puzzle, hosted on the gameβs website - it turned out to be a game where all four of us in our party had to go through the game on our own, despite all logging in to the same account. Photos above are property of Mobile Escapes ππ ·π ΄ π Ώππππ »π ΄π Puzzles here were highly visual - given how much art and design was put to place. While most puzzles were not difficult to put together, they still required a keen sense of observation and patience. One of the puzzles nearly sent one of our team members into a frenzy because it was too tedious and took too much time despite the straightforward steps. This was probably my only complaint about the puzzles - apart from 1 or 2 puzzles that required hints to decipher a slight leap of logic, one of the main challenges here was to get through puzzles that were tedious. You knew what to do, it was just a lot of going back and forth to do so. Though I would also caveat this and say that personally, I see no harm in asking for hints - so if your escape timing was not that big of a concern for you, just enjoy the process. And for all the puzzle work that was done, the ending was not something I was expecting. While the ending was not disappointing, it did leave me wanting to find out more about the lore of the island. Quick tip - it would be good to remember the kind of puzzles and what you used for each step of the way. π ²π »π Ύππ Έπ ½π Ά ππ ·π Ύππ Άπ ·ππ I would imagine this game to be one of those games where either a group of us are seated in front of one single computer and playing together, or a game that everyone either competes or collaborates to go through while the players are communicating with each other via their own channels - Zoom, Streamyard, Discord, the works. While the game is account based, itβs not linked with a multiplayer capability. Therefore, all four of us were going through the puzzles at our own pace, sometimes giving each other hints before we resorted to using one of our own. If youβre looking for a solo or dual-player experience, The Un-Deserted Island proves to be quite a fun point-and-click puzzle game that takes you through the story chapters. The graphics and using the virtual items in your survival bag are fun, and most of the puzzles are self-contained with the right level of challenge. You might be able to escape this one, but just be careful where you fall asleep the next time. We played The Prestigious Booking not knowing that the game was programed as a 45 minute game. With 6 enthusiast who's played hundreds of games, we finished in 18 minutes and 13 seconds with no hints. Most of the puzzles involved searching for items and associating them to the right locks. We took our time with The Cyber Drop and read through the story line as whenever we solved a puzzle, a short storyline would populate to give us the next task. The puzzles were slightly harder in this game which involved decoding, observation and minor Math. There were also a few cool gadgets that we were able to use in the interface that made the game feel escape room like. We finished this room in 34 minutes without a hint. π ²π »π Ύππ Έπ ½π Ά ππ ·π Ύππ Άπ ·ππ Our favorite of the two was The Cyber Drop as it stuck to the storyline and utilized puzzles that made sense in what agents would do in real life situations. Above photos are properties of DADs Casino Party ππ ·π ΄ π Ώππππ »π ΄π The puzzles were fun but quite easy if youβve played similar types of point-n-click games before. One was significantly harder than the rest of the puzzles and that one kind of caught us off guard. There were something for everyone. You'll encounter a little bit of Math, a little bit of construction and the scientist of our team really appreciated an old school DNA sequencing method puzzle! There was a little bit of search and find but not a lot, it was mostly obvious what you were working on and what items you would need to solve the puzzles. One puzzle was hard to be worked on together as a team so one person did most of the maneuvering while the rest watched them in action. There were other times when 2 would collaborate together but we were hoping to see some puzzles that would've utilized all 4 of our collaborations. Upon receiving the link, you and your members can log into the same link to start the game. There is a video/chat function embedded inside Telescape as well, so you do not need to set up a separate Zoom/Video Call with your team. While inside the game, any items that you can pick up will be stored inside an inventory system. This inventory, along with other functions such as hints, music option (12 to choose from!) etc. are all stored inside a handphone. If you drag your view towards the floor you'll be able to access the phone which is pretty convenient. There is even a mini video game inside the phone for teammates not in to puzzle solving. However our team did not try out this mini game as we were all puzzle hungry enthusiasts, trying to be the first ones to solve the puzzles. The scene is set inside an apartment, and boy, this apartment is huge! There are so many items you can interact with and many things that require search and find. We recommend splitting the team up to explore the space. The timer will count down and you have only 60 minutes to finish the game so if you want to see the happy ending, make sure to use hints when needed as there's no penalty for using them. If time does runs out, you'll get a alternative ending. Photos above are property of DADs Casino Party ππ ·π ΄ π Ώππππ »π ΄π Most of the puzzles are intuitive and straightforward. The tricky part is just knowing where to get the information needed to solve the puzzle because, as mentioned, there are things literally everywhere in the humongous house. There is a particular puzzle that I really liked. It's easy to miss but once you can see it, it really stood out as one of the most innovative puzzles I have seen. However, there was another puzzle that relies on a logical leap. There were different ways to interpret the puzzle, hence, it would be better if the wording was phrased properly so that players know what is expected of them exactly (The creator has advised us that he'll make adjustments to this puzzle). Also, as per the storyline, we are basically completing tasks before our guest arrives, so, it might be good to follow the in-game 'list of things to be done'. We had one issue in that we tried an answer, but nothing happened. After contacting the company, we were told to complete other tasks first or else even with the right answer, it'll not activate the trigger. π ²π »π Ύππ Έπ ½π Ά ππ ·π Ύππ Άπ ·ππ Overall, Holiday Dinner Rush is a family friendly game targeted more for beginners. The only time consuming part is searching the house for clues. Given all the clues at once, the puzzles themselves were on the easier side, except for 1 gem mentioned above. It also helps that while playing the game, there will be relaxing music playing in the background (you can switch it off if you want), but it really plays into the theme of this game and helps you relax and not get too stressed while solving the puzzles. For the price, this is a great way to enjoy an evening on your own if you prefer solo player games or as a group! The theme is also really great for holiday times to play with family! We really enjoyed the cinematic video at the beginning and the end as it gave us an overview of the storyline. Hotspots were installed on objects on high-res images. Lock symbols means that you can click on them to further examine the items. Some had clues on it and others told us how many digits or letters we would need in order to open the lock. Some items were also interactive where we would be able to rotate, piece together or simply place in the right position. After the intro video, you'll also get a quick tutorial on game play. If you get stuck, there's a hint system that's build into the game. The above photos are properties of Escape The Crate ππ ·π ΄ π Ώππππ »π ΄π There were a good amount of areas that we're able to explore in the interface. The puzzles were spread out in these areas. At times, we would have to return from one area to another. It felt very escape room like. This gave our players a chance to "divide and conquer" and each of us had a chance to solve some puzzles on our own. Some puzzles were really creative and connected the Mount Everest environment with some tools that you might see on an expedition. One of the puzzles utilized the yeti and that was our favorite. It was a multi-step puzzle that we had to collaborate as a team. Having good communication is very important for these types of games so make sure to always keep your team updated on your progress. There were some audio components in the game as well so it's best if you're able to wear headphones for this game. The puzzles were not too difficult for enthusiast but for new players you might have to get use to the "combo" method and also where to enter the combo words. For instance if you saw a "key" and a "locked door", you'll need to combine the words in the input box on the top left area in order for something to "open". This was a great method to not giveaway answers where players might be able to just make a guess. We were really pleased with the quality of the graphics, interface utilization and puzzles. The added background music and alert sounds whenever a player did something paired nicely with the team (except one of our players jumped every time when an alert sound happened haha). As enthusiasts, we finished the game in 34 minutes time but were truly entertained the entire time. This game definitely left us wanting more digital experiences from Escape The Crate. We do have a little "insider news" for you. The creator said that they'll be making more of them! For the game boxes that they will not or cannot bring back as physical boxes, they'll be making them into digital games instead! Helen B. This Telescape based experience was a new venture for this company I believe - and they have really gone all out to provide an entertaining storyline, animated videos and exciting graphics! The gameplay follows as you explore a frozen tundra looking for some lost expedition members, can you interpret their research and help save them?! The game uses video to introduce the scenario and give you very good, detailed instructions which were appreciated. The first few scenes are an orientation exercise which allow you to get used to the interface, inventory and a few basic puzzles. One of these told us to turn on the lights, but I'm not sure we ever actually did that, amongst any of our tasks! The telescape environment is well used, with various scenes to move between. I often berate this type of game though because one person can be off finding items and solving puzzles and you really have to communicate, as if you come across the same puzzle it's often hard to know if it has already been solved. After certain solves/finds a video would auto play, meaning if you were in the middle of something it is a sudden shock. The sound chosen as a confirmation is also quite loud and harsh, and genuinely gave me a scare a few times! That said, the game was interesting, fun and some nice puzzles to tackle, one of which worked really well with three of us as we all had some different information from different locations to share to solve it. Some of the puzzles rely on audio, so make sure you have sound turned on. Some of the drag and drop style puzzles had very sensitive drop areas, meaning that they were a bit fiddly to get right - so if you think you have the right answer, just persevere! All in all a very good and entertaining game with a fun theme! It appears there is a spy mistress involved and she should have the details you need to stop the attempt. Your task is to sneak into her house, uncover the details of the assassination without being caught, and stop the plot! Video above is property of Escape The Crate ππ ·π ΄ π Άπ °π Όπ ΄ π Ώπ »π °π "Escape the Spymistress" is a point and click adventure using Telescape, which means you will be using a shared interface with your team members. It also means if one person solves a puzzle, it will progress everyone playing. There is a video introduction that is beautifully animated and a short tutorial to test out puzzling on Telescape before you dive into the real game, which is perfect for new puzzlers unfamiliar with Telescape. As you start your mission, there will be blue lock icons appearing in the rooms you are exploring that reveal items for further inspection, such as locks, documents, and artifacts. A cool feature added by Escape the Crate is a combining function to reveal clues. Certain items, upon closer inspection, will display a puzzle piece and a word. If you find another item that you believe may be connected and, also, has a puzzle piece and a word, you can type their words together into Telescape to combine them. There is a built-in hint system into the Telescape to aid your puzzling as you will not have a gamemaster while you play. In general, Telescape is well used within this game as you can really interact with components in the game through moving theming, combining them, or rotating them. I will note the blue lock icons will not go away once you finish with the puzzle it needed so make sure you keep track of what you solve so you donβt become lost. Photos above have been provided by Escape The Crate ππ ·π ΄ π Ώππππ »π ΄π This game had different rooms to explore that cater to different puzzling types and you will need to move back and forth between them. I enjoyed how Telescape provided fun reactions whether it involved triggering an event with a solution or the simple element of watching items react to your mouse hovering, pressing, and moving things around. As a wholly digital game, the puzzles suit the structure and provide differing levels on interaction for all players. This game is best for group work as it encourages a great deal of communication where players need to use different items in different rooms to solve puzzles. If you do enjoy playing solo, have a phone or a way to take notes are you move around so you arenβt stuck bounding between screens too much. More experienced players will find the puzzles straightforward and easy to follow, but just make sure you are giving the rooms a good once over as some pieces of the puzzles can easily be overlooked. I liked the variety of the puzzles but I will say for new players, it may seem a bit overwhelming when you start. Most of the puzzles benefit from dividing and conquering as having multiple players fiddling with the same puzzle on Telescape can create errors. The puzzles themselves involve pattern recognition, cipher codes, logic, and tracking but all of it is self-contained within the game so I never felt confused - the clues I needed were usually in a different room. When you need to communicate with your teammate, you need your own communication tools like Zoom or others. I loved that there was a trial section before the actual game started. Since this game did not have a host, it was a fantastic way for us to figure out how to play before the clock started. How to use the item was a little bit unclear in the beginning. Although there were not many items that we had to use during the game, I thought it might be nicer to have an inventory system separately. ππ ·π ΄ π Ώππππ »π ΄π First of all, the pirate-themed puzzle was fun. There was a variety of puzzles from simple intuitive ones to deduction and logic ones. Once we gathered information about each puzzle and sorted it out, it wasn't that complicated. It was satisfying that I was able to see the link between each piece of information. It might be easy for those who are experts, but I believe it is just right in terms of difficulty for most people. I also really enjoyed the images they used to create the pirate ship environment. Those pictures made me feel as if I was on the ship. I enjoyed exploring the deck and inside the ship. I loved the unique idea of the story to be a timeline-keeping agent to save both a colleague who was captured by Blackbeard and saving the world by stopping Mr. Xβs plan. It was great that even the trial section was part of the story. I appreciated how the game moved forward by Oscar revealing new information each time we solved a puzzle. It helped us to figure out the direction we needed to go next. Yet, at some point, I felt that the ideas of pirate-theme and saving the world from Mr. X lacked coherency a little bit somehow. Most of the puzzles were pirate-themed, which I enjoyed, but I wish there were a little bit more traces of Mr. X somewhere along the way. Plus, I thought it would be better to explain the detail of the EMIT business a little bit more on the webpage describing the game. The game begins with a polished video that sets up the story and captures the mysterious vibe of its Coney Island setting. The game is built using the Telescape platform. Assemble your team over a video conferencing platform like Zoom, Jitsi, etc,,,Since you'll need at least 2 people in order to play this game (as you'll be split into two groups), it's best to gather an even amount of players. We played the game as a group of 4 ( 2 guys vs 2 girls) and that seems to be the magic number. This is not a real escape room translated to online so all the images were digitally designed. They felt like pretty hand drawn images. I really enjoyed the colorful and witty graphics. Initially we thought it was going to be a competitive game so we're all fired up ready to go but soon we discovered that it's actually a cooperative type of game. There were things that we're able to see that the guys side needed and vise versa. Occasionally we also had to work together as a complete team. We did feel like the left brain had more things that they were able to interact with than the right brain. But without us giving clues and directions to the left side, they still wouldn't be able to solve those puzzles. ππ ·π ΄ π Ώππππ »π ΄π A good amount of the puzzles was finding information and relaying the message. It literally felt like your brain was split in half and one side doesn't remember anything so it was asking for the other side for help. Escape SC was able to use clever ways to design the puzzles and implement them into Telescape for the players to feel the theme of this game. The puzzles were not too difficult when we finally STARTED the game (just a minor hint, sometimes it's worth breaking the rules for once!). There were definitely a few moments in the game we laughed at our silly decisions. The choice option towards the end of the game was the highlight of this game for me. Right away you could sense some evil plotting from the other side. I really appreciated the fact that the creators made the other choice videos available to us after the game was completed. Oh my this was a fun one! Made by a group of students at the University of Southern California, we weren't sure what to expect, but oh my it was hilarious. The storyline is fun, and despite being given strict instructions not to do something, you go do it, and end up in a pickle because of it. Well, you were warned! You then choose to play on one of two teams. For this reason the game needs at least 2 players so you can communicate, as the game cleverly splits what you see. At first it appears you both see the same, but the puzzles are dependent on slight differences in the "room" and the items you have. Therefore this is a game about communication and working as a team with different information. I felt that on our side of the game, we had less to do physically, it was more about providing information, as our opposite number seemed to making a lot more things happen, but there was a nice logical flow to the puzzles, even if some of them were a little crudely implemented and not always accurate! The graphics aren't top-notch, but very humorous, as is the video that appears now and then. The puzzles are mainly themed around doing things in a lab, so expect mixing, weighing and chemical elements! There's a lovely break in the middle though where you can have some fun with clothing (I'll not spoil it!) and the decisions and actions you take in the game lead to one of multiple endings. At the end, you get to play the other endings, including a top-secret ending that you won't believe!! Brilliant fun for not too much money.
